IB Maths Tutor in The Greens

Hiring an IB maths tutor in The Greens is a two-year spending decision disguised as an hourly one. Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level usually needs twice the hours of Applications and Interpretation at Standard Level, the exploration needs its own block, and the six weeks before the May session cost more than any other six weeks of the Diploma. This page prices all of it in AED, using published Dubai market rates, before it says a word about booking.

IB & IGCSE in The Greens

The real price of two years of Diploma mathematics

Families in The Greens tend to discover the cost of Diploma mathematics in the wrong order. The first number they see is an hourly rate, quoted by whoever answered the phone. The number that matters is the total across two years, and that depends on three decisions taken long before any tutor is hired: Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, Standard Level or Higher Level, and whether the exploration is handled early or in a panic in the spring.

Published Dubai rates in 2026 make the arithmetic visible. A qualified subject tutor working online is advertised between roughly AED 150 and 300 an hour, and a Diploma specialist from about AED 200 to 450 and upwards. At one session a week that is between AED 600 and 1,200 a month at the middle of the market, and between AED 1,000 and more than AED 2,000 a month in an exam year, according to Bestimate's Dubai tutoring cost table for 2026. Across twenty-two teaching months, the gap between a sensible plan and a drifting one runs into tens of thousands of dirhams.

Higher Level Analysis and Approaches is the expensive end of that range for a structural reason rather than a commercial one. It carries a third examination paper, Paper 3, which is a one-hour guided investigation worth a fifth of the grade and the component students are least able to practise alone. Paper 1 is sat without a calculator, so algebraic fluency has to be rebuilt by hand rather than checked on a screen. Both of those take hours, and hours are the unit that is actually being purchased.

Applications and Interpretation prices differently. The graphic display calculator is assumed throughout, so fewer hours go on by-hand technique and more go on modelling, statistics and the written interpretation that the mark scheme rewards. Many Greens families paying specialist rates for AI are paying for the wrong thing: they buy algebra drill when the marks are being lost in the sentence after the answer.

The waste in this market is predictable and it is almost always one of four things. Paying a generalist to cover Paper 3. Buying weekly sessions in Year 12 for a student who needed a six-session exploration block instead. Starting in March of Year 13 at exam-season rates for work that cost half as much in October. And paying the in-home travel premium, quoted in Dubai from roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour, for a format that consumes part of the only usable evening window The Greens has. The sections below put numbers on each of them.

Read the tables before the prose if you are comparing quotes this week. The first prices every sensible plan across the full Diploma, the second shows what the route choice does to the number of hours you buy, the third puts the component weightings next to the places marks actually go missing, and the fourth sets out the five exploration criteria with the mark allocation beside each one. Taken together they answer the question an hourly rate never does, which is how many hours your child's specific course and specific weakness are going to require.

At a glance

  • Paper 3 at Higher Level is one hour and a fifth of the grade
  • The exploration is 20 marks and 20% of the grade on both routes
  • Paper 1 is non-calculator on Analysis and Approaches at both levels
  • Dubai market rates for specialists run from about AED 200 an hour
  • In-home visits are quoted from AED 180 to 500 an hour, travel included

AAAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

The algebra, functions, calculus and proof route. Paper 1 is sat without a calculator at both levels, which makes by-hand manipulation a graded skill rather than a convenience. Higher Level adds a third paper and a markedly deeper calculus and proof requirement, and it is the course most often chosen by students heading for engineering, mathematics, physics or quantitative economics.

In the Emirates Living cluster, Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level is where tutoring spend concentrates, because the schools that offer it near The Greens run small HL cohorts and a student who falls behind has few classmates at the same level to work alongside. Two sessions a week through the second year is the common pattern, and it is the plan with the largest total cost in this table.

AIAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

The modelling, statistics and financial mathematics route, with the graphic display calculator assumed in every paper. The technical demand is lower and the communication demand is higher: marks come from choosing a model, justifying it, and interpreting the output in context. Higher Level adds a third paper and substantially more statistics.

Applications and Interpretation is frequently the better route for Greens students heading into business, design, psychology or the health sciences, and it is cheaper to support well. The mistake families make here is buying specialist exam-year rates for help with technique when what the student needs is a few hours on writing a conclusion that the mark scheme can credit.

IAWritten in Year 12 or early Year 13

The mathematical exploration

An independent piece of mathematics, usually twelve to twenty pages, assessed against five criteria worth twenty marks in total and carrying a fifth of the final grade on both routes and at both levels. It is the only component where a student controls the question, and the only one where good support is a block of a few sessions rather than a weekly commitment.

Handled in Year 12, an exploration block of around six sessions is a one-off cost. Handled in the spring of Year 13 it competes with examination revision at the most expensive point in the calendar. For families in The Greens this is the clearest example of timing being worth more than rate negotiation.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme mathematics into the Diploma

The years before the Diploma, assessed against criteria rather than examination papers. Students arriving in Year 12 from MYP standard mathematics frequently find Analysis and Approaches a harder step than their report grades suggested, because criterion-based assessment measures different things from a timed non-calculator paper.

Several campuses near The Greens run the full IB continuum, so a child can move from MYP into the Diploma without changing school. That continuity is an advantage academically and a trap financially: parents assume the transition is smooth in content terms and buy support only after the first set of Year 12 Paper 1 marks arrives.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Diploma mathematics is one subject on a timetable and five distinct skills in a mark scheme. These are the areas Greens families most often end up paying to repair, with the component each one actually shows up in.

Number and algebra

SL and HL, both routes

Sequences, series, exponents, logarithms and, at Higher Level, complex numbers and proof by induction. On Analysis and Approaches this is Paper 1 territory and has to work without a calculator, which is why it absorbs more tutoring hours than any other topic in the first year.

Functions

SL and HL, both routes

Transformations, rational functions, inverse functions and composite notation. Marks go missing in the unstructured questions that give a graph and ask for the function, because the student recognises the shape but cannot write the algebra that produces it.

Geometry and trigonometry

SL and HL, both routes

Identities, equations and, at Higher Level on Analysis and Approaches, vectors. Students who learned trigonometry as triangle work in the Middle Years Programme struggle with it as a function, and that gap is the usual cause of a weak Paper 1 in the first year.

Statistics and probability

SL and HL, heavier on AI

Distributions, correlation, hypothesis testing and regression. On Applications and Interpretation this is the core of the course and the heart of Paper 2, and it is tested as much on interpretation as on calculation. Precise wording earns marks that a correct number alone does not.

Calculus

SL and HL, deeper on AA

Differentiation, integration, kinematics and, at Higher Level, techniques such as substitution and differential equations. Higher Level calculus is the single largest reason an Analysis and Approaches student needs a second weekly hour in Year 13.

Proof and the Higher Level toolkit

HL, Analysis and Approaches

Direct proof, contradiction, induction and counterexample. Unlike every other topic, it cannot be drilled through repetition because each question is new. It is the part of the course where a specialist and a generalist produce visibly different results.

Paper 3 problem solving

HL only, both routes

A one-hour paper of extended guided investigations worth a fifth of the Higher Level grade. The difficulty is structural: later parts depend on earlier ones, so a single early error cascades. It is the most tutored component in the whole course and the hardest to practise unsupervised.

The exploration

SL and HL, both routes

Twenty marks across presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and use of mathematics. The two smallest criteria, personal engagement and reflection, are where capable students lose the most, because strong mathematics with no reflective commentary scores well below its apparent quality.

Graphic display calculator technique

SL and HL, essential on AI

Regression, distributions, numerical solving and graphing on the permitted handheld. Schools teach the mathematics and often assume the device, which leaves students slow in Paper 2 where speed converts directly into marks.

Non-calculator fluency

SL and HL, Analysis and Approaches

Exact values, surd and index manipulation, and arithmetic done by hand under time pressure. Paper 1 assumes it, and students arriving from a calculator-permitted lower-school course have usually never been tested on it.

Physics HL alongside Maths AA HL

HL pairing

A common Greens combination for engineering applicants. The two courses share kinematics, vectors and calculus, so a single tutor who covers both can convert overlapping content into fewer paid hours rather than more.

Economics and business quantitative work

SL and HL pairing

Students on Applications and Interpretation often take Economics or Business Management, where the same statistical reasoning is assessed in prose. Support that connects the two is cheaper than treating them as unrelated subjects.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Four ways of buying Diploma mathematics support, priced by what they consume rather than by what they are called. All are delivered one-to-one over live video, with screen sharing for past papers and marked work.

One hour a week, Standard Level

The lightest useful commitment, suited to a student keeping pace with class content who loses marks through carelessness rather than through gaps. At middle-of-market Dubai rates this is roughly AED 600 to 1,200 a month, and its value depends entirely on the student arriving with specific questions rather than with a blank page.

  • One subject, one fixed weekly hour
  • Works when the gap is practice, not technique
  • Cheapest plan that still produces measurable change

Two hours a week, Higher Level

The realistic plan for Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level in the second year, where Paper 1 technique, Paper 2 speed and Paper 3 investigation all need separate attention. It is the most expensive standing arrangement in Diploma mathematics and the one most often bought a term later than it should have been.

  • One hour on technique, one on timed paper practice
  • Paper 3 treated as its own component, not an extra
  • Front-loaded into the autumn rather than the spring

An exploration block, around six sessions

A fixed block covering topic choice, the five criteria, the mathematics the student has chosen to use, and feedback on drafts the student has written. It is bought once, finishes, and does not recur. Run in Year 12, it is the best-value purchase in the whole course.

  • Topic narrowed to something the student can genuinely own
  • Criteria explained letter by letter before drafting starts
  • Feedback on the student's own draft, never a supplied draft

A final block before the May session

Eight to twelve sessions over six weeks, aimed at the two weakest topics and at timed paper technique. It is priced at exam-season rates and it is worth it only when the groundwork exists. Bought instead of groundwork rather than on top of it, it is the most common way money is wasted in Diploma mathematics.

  • Diagnostic past paper first, plan second
  • Two topics, chosen on evidence rather than feeling
  • Timed conditions in every session

01

What two years of Diploma mathematics actually costs here

The table below converts published Dubai market rates into the figure a household budget feels: the monthly cost, and the total across the Diploma. The hourly bands behind it are the ones advertised across the emirate in 2026, with qualified subject tutors online at roughly AED 150 to 300 and Diploma specialists from about AED 200 to 450 and upwards. The monthly estimates are from Bestimate's 2026 Dubai tutoring cost table. Nothing here is an IB Gram price.

Read the first two rows against the third and the shape of the decision becomes obvious. Standard Level on either route, supported by one weekly hour, is a four-figure annual commitment. Higher Level Analysis and Approaches at two hours a week in the second year is a five-figure one. The difference is not a markup; it is an extra examination paper, a non-calculator paper and a calculus requirement that genuinely takes twice as long to teach.

The two block rows are the ones families usually omit from their planning and then pay for anyway. An exploration block is a fixed, one-off purchase of around six sessions. A final block before the May session is eight to twelve sessions at the most expensive point in the year. Budgeting for the first makes the second smaller; skipping the first guarantees the second is large.

One honest caveat about every figure in this table. These are market observations, not quotations, and the ranges are wide because the market is. Treat them as a yardstick for judging any quote you receive, including ours. What IB Gram offers first is a free trial lesson with no card details, after which a rate is quoted for the specific route, level and session length your child needs.

Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation: the choice that sets the bill

Parents in The Greens usually meet this decision as a form to sign in the spring of Year 11, with twenty minutes of explanation attached. It deserves more, because it determines both what the student studies for two years and roughly how much support that will take. The two courses are not a harder and an easier version of the same thing. They assess different mathematics.

Analysis and Approaches is algebraic. Paper 1 is sat without a calculator at both levels, which means index laws, surds, exact trigonometric values and algebraic rearrangement all have to be reliable by hand. Students who have spent the Middle Years Programme or IGCSE with a calculator permanently available often arrive fluent in method and slow in execution, and closing that gap is measured in weeks of practice rather than in explanations.

Applications and Interpretation assumes the graphic display calculator throughout and asks for judgement instead. A typical Paper 2 question gives real data, asks for a model, and awards marks for choosing it, fitting it and saying what it does and does not tell you. The failure mode is a correct number followed by a sentence the mark scheme cannot credit, and the fix is written technique, not algebra drill.

The expensive error is buying support for the wrong route. An Applications and Interpretation student given weekly algebra practice will improve at something that is barely assessed on their papers. An Analysis and Approaches student given modelling work will enjoy it and gain very little in Paper 1. Confirming the route and level before the first paid session costs nothing and removes the most common source of wasted spend in this subject.

Paper by paper: what you are paying to fix

Hours are only worth buying when they are aimed at a component. The weightings below show where the grade actually sits, and they explain why two students on the same course with the same report grade can need very different amounts of help. A student losing marks in Paper 1 has a technique problem. A student losing them in Paper 3 has a stamina and structure problem. The second costs more to fix.

Paper 1 and Paper 2 each carry forty per cent at Standard Level and thirty per cent at Higher Level. At Standard Level they run an hour and a half each; at Higher Level, two hours each. The non-calculator constraint on Analysis and Approaches Paper 1 is the single most under-prepared feature of the course, because school practice tends to happen with a calculator on the desk out of habit.

Paper 3 exists only at Higher Level, lasts one hour and carries a fifth of the grade. It consists of extended guided investigations where later parts build on earlier ones, so one early mistake propagates through the rest of the question. No amount of topic revision prepares a student for it; the only thing that does is working through complete investigations under time pressure with someone who can see where the thread was dropped.

The exploration carries the remaining fifth on both routes and at both levels. Its criteria are explained in the next section, but the budget point belongs here: a fifth of the grade is decided by a document written months before the examinations, and it is the only component where a student can bank marks early at a predictable, one-off cost.

The exploration: twenty marks, and where the money goes wrong

The exploration is an independent piece of mathematics of around twelve to twenty pages, assessed against five criteria worth twenty marks in total. Presentation carries four marks, mathematical communication four, personal engagement three, reflection three, and use of mathematics six. That distribution is the whole reason capable students underperform on it: the mathematics is worth less than half the marks, and the six remaining marks for engagement and reflection are the ones strong mathematicians skip.

The cost implication is specific. A student who understands the criteria before choosing a topic needs a small block of sessions. A student who writes twenty pages of good mathematics and then discovers that personal engagement and reflection are separately assessed needs a rewrite, usually during the term when examination revision should be starting. The second scenario costs two or three times the first and buys a worse grade.

The boundary on what a tutor may do here is not a matter of taste. A tutor can explain each criterion, discuss a plan the student has drafted, teach a technique the student has decided to use, read a draft the student wrote and say where it falls short, and ask the questions that force a genuine reflective paragraph into existence. No tutor at IB Gram will write the exploration, produce a draft for submission, or edit one until the words are no longer the student's.

That line protects the candidate rather than us. Submitting work a student did not produce is malpractice under the board's rules and the consequence lands on the student. Providers in this market do advertise completed Internal Assessments at fixed prices; what they are selling is the risk, transferred.

05

Where Greens families waste money on Diploma mathematics

  • Ask which route and level the tutor teaches, and when they last taught it
  • Buy the exploration as a block in Year 12, not as weekly hours
  • Front-load foundational work into the autumn term
  • Do not pay a travel premium out of a ninety-minute evening window

The first waste is paying a generalist specialist rates. A tutor comfortable with IGCSE mathematics and willing to attempt Higher Level Paper 3 will produce sessions that feel productive and change very little, because Paper 3 rewards a particular kind of structured exploration that has to be taught by someone who has marked or taught it repeatedly. Asking directly which route and level a tutor teaches, and when they last taught it, filters this out in one question.

The second is buying weekly hours when the student needed a block. A Year 12 who is keeping up in class but has not started the exploration does not need thirty-six weekly sessions; they need six focused ones and then nothing until the spring. Weekly standing arrangements are easier to sell and easier to forget to cancel, and they quietly become the largest line in a family's education spending.

The third is starting late and paying exam-season prices for foundational work. Rates in this market firm up as the May session approaches, and the work available in six weeks is narrower than the work available in six months. A student with a non-calculator weakness in October has a technique problem that practice solves; the same student in April has a grade problem that practice cannot fully solve.

The fourth is the travel premium. In-home one-to-one visits in Dubai are quoted from roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour, with monthly packages of four two-hour visits advertised at AED 1,599 to 1,799, and the difference against online rates at the same qualification level buys transport. In The Greens, where the usable weekday window runs from about four o'clock to half past seven, that premium also costs evening minutes twice over. IB Gram does not make home visits in Dubai; home visits are an India-only service.

06

How many hours Higher Level actually takes

A straight answer is more useful than a range, so here is the pattern that recurs among students who move from the middle of the Higher Level cohort to the top of it. Year 12 runs on one hour a week, aimed at the non-calculator technique that school practice tends to skip, plus a six-session exploration block in the second half of the year. Year 13 runs on two hours a week from September: one on technique and content, one on complete timed papers with Paper 3 treated as a separate skill.

Expressed in sessions rather than months, that is roughly thirty to thirty-six hours in the first year and sixty to seventy in the second. At the published Dubai specialist band of AED 200 to 450 an hour, the two-year total lands somewhere between the mid-twenty thousands and the high forty thousands of dirhams. Those are market figures rather than ours, and the range is wide because the market's is.

Standard Level is close to half of that on both routes. One weekly hour across two years, plus the same exploration block, covers most students who are keeping pace in class. Students who are not keeping pace need a short diagnostic block first, because adding hours to a weekly arrangement rarely fixes a gap that opened a year earlier.

The number that changes these totals most is not the rate. It is the month you start. Every family who began in the spring of Year 13 paid more per week, bought fewer usable weeks, and had less of the course left to influence. Starting in Year 12 at one hour a week is the cheapest version of a serious plan.

07

Which schools near The Greens run Diploma maths, and why cohort size matters

Dubai's private school market held 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, offering seventeen different curricula, with the International Baccalaureate accounting for seven per cent of enrolment and the UK curriculum thirty-seven. That seven per cent share is the relevant number for a Diploma mathematics parent in The Greens, because it explains why Higher Level groups are small even in large schools.

A Diploma cohort of a hundred students might produce fifteen taking Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level and five taking Applications and Interpretation at Higher Level. In a class of five, a student who falls behind has almost nobody to compare working with, and the teacher has little room to run two paces at once. That is a structural argument for one-to-one support rather than a criticism of any school, and it is worth asking the question before Year 12 rather than after the first Paper 1.

KHDA, which u.ae describes as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in Dubai, inspects annually on a six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak and publishes the reports. The subject-level commentary is where the useful information is: a school can be strong overall and thin in Higher Level mathematics, and that is exactly the situation in which private support changes an outcome. Dubai is also adding seven new private schools for 2026-27, three of them International Baccalaureate, which should ease cohort sizes over time.

On fees, KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package. For a family budgeting two years of Diploma mathematics support, a flat school fee is the one fixed point in the calculation.

08

Does the route choice matter for UAE university entry?

It matters for course access rather than for admission in general, and the honest answer is that the requirement sits with the individual programme rather than with the country. Engineering, computer science and quantitative economics degrees commonly expect Analysis and Approaches, often at Higher Level. Business, design, psychology and most health science programmes accept Applications and Interpretation. Check the published entry requirement for the specific programme and the specific intake year, because these change.

Separately from admission there is equivalency, which is the Ministry of Education process that recognises a foreign school certificate in the UAE. The published requirements differ by curriculum. On the American track, mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying, and English proficiency is satisfied by a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT. On the British track, students must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at no less than grade E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level, and Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects.

No equivalency points threshold for the International Baccalaureate is published on this page, because none has been read from a Ministry of Education source. One ranking competitor in this market publishes a subject count for IGCSE that does not match the Gulf Today report of the Ministry's clarification; inheriting that error would be worse than saying nothing. Take the Diploma figure from moe.gov.ae or the emirate's attestation authority directly.

Equivalency is also not something a tutoring company performs, guarantees or accelerates. IB Gram describes the process and points to the official channel; the application itself is between the family and the authority. Tutoring is not a requirement for equivalency, for university admission or for school progression, and any page implying otherwise is manufacturing urgency.

09

Six weeks out: what a final block can and cannot buy

Families in The Greens ask this every spring, usually after a mock result. The answer depends almost entirely on what already exists. With sound technique and weak exam execution, six weeks of timed papers and targeted review moves a grade, sometimes more than one, because the marks being lost are recoverable through practice. With a genuine content gap in calculus or in non-calculator algebra, six weeks closes part of it and the rest shows up in the hall.

What a sensible final block looks like is unglamorous. A full past paper under timed conditions first, marked properly, to identify the two topics costing the most marks rather than the two that feel worst. Then eight to twelve sessions alternating between those topics and complete timed papers, with Paper 3 treated separately at Higher Level because it is a different skill from the other two papers. No new content after the halfway point.

What it cannot buy is a rewritten exploration. A fifth of the grade was settled when that document was submitted, and the time spent trying to improve the remaining components is better spent on them. This is the moment families most regret not having bought an exploration block eighteen months earlier, and it is why that block appears so early in this page.

Nobody honest will promise a specific grade from a specific number of sessions, and any provider willing to do so should be questioned rather than hired. What a final block can promise is that the student will have sat complete papers under time, had them marked against the real criteria, and been told plainly which topics are still costing marks. On IB session dates, work from your school's IB coordinator or ibo.org, because no Diploma examination or results date is published on this page.

Rates and availability do not vary much across these communities, but what families spend money on does. Each note below is about the buying decision that recurs in that neighbourhood rather than about the roads.

The Views

Shares schools and bus routes with The Greens, which means it shares the same Higher Level cohort problem. Families here often split a tutor's two weekly Diploma slots with a neighbour's child on the same course, though the sessions themselves stay one-to-one.

The Meadows

Home to one of the area's established IB campuses, so Meadows families usually buy support inside the Diploma rather than for a transition into it. Spend concentrates on Paper 3 and the exploration rather than on class catch-up.

The Springs

Largely British-curriculum at secondary, so the Diploma question here is usually asked by families who moved school at sixteen. The useful spend is a short bridging block on non-calculator algebra before Year 12 rather than a weekly commitment afterwards.

Emirates Hills

Villa households with study space and few logistical constraints, where the temptation is to buy premium named tutoring at AED 500 an hour and upwards. The honest test is whether the student is short of technique or short of practice; the second costs far less to fix.

Apartment families where both parents commonly work past six. Later Diploma slots sell out first here, and the cost mistake is booking an early-evening hour the student routinely misses, then paying for sessions that do not happen.

Al Sufouh

Several long-established campuses, some with large Diploma cohorts and some with very small Higher Level maths groups. Cohort size is the thing to ask about: a four-student HL class gives a struggling child nobody to compare working with.

Al Barsha and Al Barsha South

The widest choice of Diploma schools within reach of The Greens and the widest spread of quoted tutoring rates. Comparing two quotes here without first confirming route and level is how families end up paying Higher Level prices for Standard Level work.

Jumeirah Village and Motor City

Newer campuses with growing Diploma cohorts further down Al Khail Road. Journey times make in-home arrangements expensive in both money and evening minutes, which is why online delivery is near-universal for Diploma maths in this corridor.

Diploma campuses within fifteen minutes of The Greens

The closest schools offering the IB Diploma, and therefore the ones whose Higher Level mathematics cohorts a Greens student is most likely to sit in. Ask any of them for the size of this year's AA HL group before assuming class support will be enough.

  • GEMS Wellington International School, Al Sufouh
  • Dubai American Academy, Al Barsha

Diploma campuses on the southern and Jumeirah runs

Reachable from The Greens but with longer journeys, which pushes these families towards online support almost automatically. Several run both Applications and Interpretation and Analysis and Approaches, so the route choice is a real decision rather than a default.

British-curriculum schools near The Greens that feed the Diploma at sixteen

Students from these campuses often move to a Diploma school after IGCSE. The bridging cost is the one families forget to budget for, and it is far smaller if it is spent in the summer before Year 12 rather than in the December after it.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the route and the level first

Send four facts: Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, Standard or Higher Level, the school, and whether the exploration has been started. Those four decide which tutors are relevant and roughly what the two-year commitment will cost, before any rate is discussed.

  2. 02

Get a diagnostic read, not a sales call

The free trial lesson is one full session with no card details taken to book it. The tutor works through a past-paper question with your child and reports back on which topics are genuinely weak, whether the problem is technique or practice, and which component is costing the most marks.

  3. 03

Choose the plan that matches the diagnosis

A practice problem is a weekly hour. A content gap is a short intensive block first. An unstarted exploration is a six-session block with a deadline. Buying the wrong one of these three is the most common way money disappears in Diploma mathematics, and the diagnosis is what prevents it.

  4. 04

Fix the slot against the real evening

Secondary school days around The Greens finish between about 15:00 and 15:30, and buses and clubs push arrival later. Sessions are set in Gulf Standard Time at a time the student is actually free, usually between 16:15 and 18:00, and they move rather than vanish when a fixture overruns.

  5. 05

Review against the calendar, in writing

Each session produces a short written note, and before each reporting period you get a view of which components are improving and which are not. Where the evidence says the plan should shrink, we say so. A weekly hour that is no longer needed is a cost rather than a safety net.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Rates on this page are the market's, not ours

Every AED figure here comes from published Dubai rate cards and from Bestimate's 2026 Dubai tutoring cost table, and is labelled as such. You can judge any quote against them, including ours. Three of the six competitor pages researched for this market publish no price at all, and two quote in US dollars.

Route and level stated before money moves

A tutor tells you whether they teach Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, at which level, and when they last taught it. That one answer removes the most expensive mismatch in this subject, which is paying Higher Level rates for someone who last taught Standard Level two years ago.

Paper 3 treated as its own component

At Higher Level, Paper 3 is one hour and a fifth of the grade, and it is the component students can least prepare for alone. It gets its own sessions and its own timed practice rather than being folded into general revision, which is where most of its marks are quietly lost.

The exploration bought once, early

A block of around six sessions in Year 12 covers topic choice, the five criteria and feedback on the student's own drafts. Handled then, a fifth of the grade is banked at a predictable one-off cost instead of competing with examination revision in the spring of Year 13.

A line around assessed work that is stated, not implied

Tutors teach criteria and respond to drafts the student wrote. No one here writes the exploration or supplies a draft for submission. In a market where finished Internal Assessments are advertised at fixed prices, that boundary is what protects the candidate from a malpractice finding.

No travel premium, because there is no travel

Lessons are one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram has no office in Dubai and makes no home visits in the UAE; home visits exist only in India. The in-home rates quoted on this page belong to other providers and are shown so the premium is visible.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in The Greens: your questions answered

How much does IB maths tutoring cost for a family in The Greens?+

On published Dubai rates for 2026, qualified subject tutors online are advertised at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour and Diploma specialists from about AED 200 to 450 and upwards. At one session a week that is around AED 600 to 1,200 a month in the middle of the market, rising to AED 1,000 to beyond AED 2,000 in an exam year according to Bestimate's Dubai cost table. Higher Level at two sessions a week roughly doubles it. None of those figures is an IB Gram price; they are here so you can judge any quote.

What does two years of DP maths support add up to in AED?+

For Standard Level on either route, one weekly hour across two years plus an exploration block lands somewhere in the mid-teens to mid-twenties of thousands of dirhams at published market rates. For Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, with one weekly hour in the first year and two in the second, the total runs from the mid-twenties into the high forties of thousands. The spread is wide because the Dubai market's hourly spread is wide, and because the month you start changes the number of weeks you buy.

Is Maths AA or Maths AI cheaper to tutor through the Diploma?+

Applications and Interpretation is usually cheaper to support well, because the graphic display calculator is assumed throughout and fewer hours go on rebuilding by-hand technique. Analysis and Approaches has a non-calculator Paper 1 at both levels, which takes sustained practice rather than explanation. At Higher Level the gap widens again, since Analysis and Approaches carries a deeper calculus and proof requirement. The exploration costs the same on both routes, since it is twenty marks and a fifth of the grade either way.

Where do Greens parents waste money on IB maths tutoring?+

Four places, in order of cost. Paying specialist rates to a generalist who cannot teach Higher Level Paper 3. Buying thirty-six weekly sessions when the student needed six focused ones on the exploration. Starting in the spring of Year 13, when rates firm up and there is less course left to influence. And paying the in-home travel premium, quoted in Dubai from roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour, out of an evening window that is only about ninety minutes wide in this community.

Is a maths tutor charging AED 450 an hour worth it for Higher Level?+

Sometimes, and the test is specific rather than general. At the top of the published specialist band you should be buying something a mid-market tutor cannot do: Paper 3 investigations taught as a distinct skill, unstructured proof at Higher Level, and diagnosis precise enough to name two topics rather than describe a weakness. If the sessions look like homework help, the premium is buying nothing. Ask what the hour will contain before agreeing the rate, and ask when the tutor last taught that exact level.

How many IB maths sessions a week does an HL student actually need?+

One a week through the first year is usually enough if it is aimed at non-calculator technique rather than at homework, with a six-session exploration block in the second half of that year. Two a week from September of the second year is the realistic plan: one hour on content and technique, one on complete timed papers with Paper 3 handled separately. Students who try to compress all of that into the spring buy fewer usable weeks at higher prices and influence less of the course.

Can one maths tutor cover both Paper 3 and the IA?+

Yes, and there is a saving in it, because the same person already knows the student's working. The two jobs are different though. Paper 3 is timed, structured investigation practice where early errors cascade into later parts. The exploration is a written document assessed on five criteria, two of which reward reflection rather than mathematics. A tutor who treats them as one activity usually under-serves the exploration, so ask how the sessions will be split before booking a block.

Do IB maths tutoring rates rise closer to the May session?+

Quoted rates in the Dubai market tend to firm up as the session approaches, and availability tightens first. The larger cost is not the rate though. In February a tutor can only work with the course that remains, so the same money buys narrower work: timed paper technique and two topics rather than the foundational fluency that practice can still fix in October. Families who book the autumn pay the lower rate and get the wider job, which is why starting early is a pricing decision as much as an academic one.

What does an IB maths IA support block typically cost?+

Around six sessions covers topic choice, the five criteria letter by letter, the mathematics the student has chosen to use, and feedback on drafts the student has written. At published Dubai rates of roughly AED 200 to 450 an hour for a Diploma specialist, that is a one-off commitment of about AED 1,200 to 2,700. Run in Year 12 it is the best-value purchase in the course, because a fifth of the grade is settled early and does not compete with revision later.

Is a cheaper university-student maths tutor a false economy at HL?+

At Standard Level, often not. A capable graduate can run useful practice sessions for a student who understands the method and needs repetition, and the budget end of the Dubai market is advertised from roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour. At Higher Level the picture changes, because Paper 3 and unstructured proof reward someone who has taught or marked that specific component repeatedly. The cheap hour is good value for practice and poor value for technique, and most Higher Level students need both.

Does an in-home maths tutor in The Greens cost more than an online one?+

Yes, on published rates. In-home one-to-one visits in Dubai are quoted from about AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel built into the price, and monthly packages of four two-hour visits have been advertised at AED 1,599 to 1,799. Online rates at the same qualification level sit lower. The extra buys transport rather than teaching, and in a community where the usable weekday window is roughly four o'clock to half past seven, it also costs evening minutes. IB Gram does not make home visits in Dubai.

Which Greens-area schools run Maths AA HL, and does that change the price?+

Several Diploma campuses within fifteen to thirty minutes of The Greens offer both mathematics routes, and the schools in the Emirates Living, Al Sufouh and Al Barsha clusters are the ones Greens students most often attend. Cohort size matters more than the school's name. The International Baccalaureate accounted for about seven per cent of Dubai private-school enrolment in 2024-25, which is why Higher Level groups stay small, and a small group is precisely the situation where one-to-one support changes an outcome.

Do UAE universities care whether my child sat AA or AI?+

Individual programmes care, countries do not. Engineering, computer science and quantitative economics degrees commonly expect Analysis and Approaches, frequently at Higher Level; business, design, psychology and most health science programmes accept Applications and Interpretation. Check the published requirement for the specific programme and intake year. Separately, Ministry of Education equivalency on the American track specifies at least 450 in the SAT Math test, and no Diploma points threshold is published here because none has been read from a Ministry source.

We have six weeks until the maths exam. What can that money buy?+

If technique is sound and execution is weak, six weeks of timed papers and targeted review can move a grade, because the lost marks are recoverable through practice. If there is a genuine gap in calculus or non-calculator algebra, six weeks closes part of it and the rest appears in the hall. What it cannot touch is the exploration, which is a fifth of the grade already submitted. Start with one full timed paper, marked properly, then spend the block on the two topics it identifies.

Is it cheaper to buy a block of maths sessions than to pay weekly?+

It is usually cheaper in total, because a block has an end date and a weekly arrangement does not. The honest comparison is not rate against rate but purpose against purpose. A block suits a defined job: the exploration, a bridging gap before Year 12, or a final push before the session. A weekly hour suits sustained practice through a difficult year. Families overspend by running a weekly arrangement past the point where it was needed, rather than by paying too much per hour.
