IGCSE Home Tutor in The Greens

Parents in The Greens search for an IGCSE home tutor and mean something reasonable: somebody who can sit with their child and knows the exact syllabus the school entered them for. The first half of that is easy to buy in Dubai. The second half is not. IB Gram answers the second half. Lessons run one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, matched to the syllabus code your child is actually sitting, which in a community of apartments usually beats whoever happens to live two towers away.

  • Matched to the syllabus code, not to the nearest available adult

IB & IGCSE in The Greens

The honest answer to a reasonable question

A parent typing 'IGCSE home tutor in The Greens' is asking for two things at once, and they are not equally available. The first is proximity: somebody who can be in the room, with a pen, next to a child who works better with company. That is straightforward to buy in Dubai and there is an active market for it. The second is subject precision: somebody who knows that Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics is syllabus 0580 and Pearson Edexcel's is 4MA1, that those are different papers with different formats, and which of them your child's school entered them for. That one is scarce, and in a community the size of The Greens it is scarce locally almost by definition.

This page answers both parts without pretending. It sets out what in-home tuition in Dubai actually costs, with the published figures and who published them, and what the travel inside that rate is buying. It explains how to find out which syllabus your child is sitting, in one email. It gives you a question to ask any prospective tutor, subject by subject, that separates somebody who knows the specification from somebody improvising from memory. And it states the position plainly rather than burying it: IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE, because home visits are a service we provide only in India. Every lesson for a UAE family is taught one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time.

That is not a limitation dressed up as a feature, and it is worth making the case properly rather than asserting it. The Greens is a mid-rise apartment community beside Emirates Golf Club, with Regent International School inside it, The Views next door and Barsha Heights minutes away. The pool of adults within a short drive who have taught Extended-tier Cambridge Physics, or marked Edexcel English Language Paper 1 against the actual mark scheme, is small. Restricting your search to that pool is the main reason families end up with a well-meaning generalist and no grade movement. Removing distance from the search widens the pool enormously and costs you nothing except the person being on a screen.

There are practical gains too, and apartment living makes them sharper. There is no parking, no building access and no lift to negotiate, which in The Greens is not a trivial consideration. A session can start at 7:15pm because that is when your child is free, rather than when a tutor has finished crossing Sheikh Zayed Road. It can move by half an hour on the day. Two children can take back-to-back slots without a gap for a journey. And the hour you pay for is an hour of teaching rather than an hour that includes somebody's drive.

What follows is the detail: the delivery comparison with real figures, the syllabus codes, the Core and Extended decision, how to verify a tutor before you let them teach, what the travel premium costs, and an eight-week plan for a Year 11 who has left it late.

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Four qualifications cover almost every Greens enquiry at this age, and the difference between them is not difficulty. It is which board set the papers and what that board expects a candidate to be able to do.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE

Subject-by-subject qualifications with numbered syllabuses: Mathematics 0580, Physics 0625, Chemistry 0620, Biology 0610, English as a First Language 0500, Economics 0455 and many more. Several are tiered into Core and Extended, which changes both the papers sat and the grades available. Sciences carry a separate practical component worth twenty per cent, taken as a practical test or as a written alternative.

Cambridge runs June and November series, with March available for some syllabuses, and allocates every exam centre to one of six administrative zones. Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct timetable version for your zone and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one, so take the timetable from your school rather than from a search result.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

The other board in wide use across Dubai, with its own codes: Mathematics Specification A 4MA1, Physics 4PH1, Chemistry 4CH1, Biology 4BI1, English Language 4EA1. The single sciences are untiered and graded 9 to 1, and practical skills are assessed inside the written papers rather than in a separate practical examination, which changes how a candidate should revise.

Pearson runs International GCSE examinations in May and June and again in November. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026; June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Provisional timetables are published ahead of each series, so work from the live official document.

O LevelAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge O Level

Still offered at some schools in the region, often alongside IGCSE in particular subjects. The content overlaps substantially with the equivalent IGCSE but the assessment arrangements differ, including the treatment of practical and coursework components. A tutor needs to know which of the two a candidate is entered for, because past-paper practice is not interchangeable.

Cambridge runs O Level in the same June and November series as IGCSE. A Greens family whose child has moved schools mid-course should check which qualification each subject is entered for, since a transfer can leave a student entered for O Level in one subject and IGCSE in another without anybody mentioning it.

Next stepAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

A Level and IB Diploma at sixteen

What IGCSE grades are for. Sixth forms set subject-specific expectations, and the IB Diploma requires six subjects across groups with three at Higher Level, which makes breadth matter as well as depth. A grade profile with a gap in mathematics or a science closes more doors at sixteen than families expect, which is why Year 10 is the economical time to fix one.

Both routes exist within reach of The Greens. Dubai British School Emirates Hills, Dubai College and GEMS Wellington International School run A Levels; Emirates International School Meadows and Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills run the Diploma. Students from this community switch systems at sixteen often enough that the IGCSE profile carries real weight.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The grid below lists both boards' codes side by side, because that is the single piece of information that makes a tutoring arrangement efficient. Ask your school's exams officer for your child's codes; it is one email and it prevents a term of preparing for the wrong paper.

IGCSE Mathematics

Cambridge 0580 · Edexcel 4MA1

The most requested subject from this community and the one where the two boards feel most different in paper style. Cambridge 0580 is tiered Core and Extended; Edexcel 4MA1 Specification A has Foundation and Higher tiers. Most marks are lost to method shown badly rather than to arithmetic.

IGCSE Additional Mathematics

Cambridge 0606

Taken by students heading for A Level Mathematics or IB Higher Level, usually alongside 0580. It introduces calculus and more demanding algebra, and it is the clearest single predictor of whether a student will cope with mathematics at sixteen. Worth starting early rather than treating as an extra.

IGCSE Physics

Cambridge 0625 · Edexcel 4PH1

Electricity and formula rearrangement decide most grades. On Cambridge, twenty per cent sits in a separate practical component; on Edexcel, practical reasoning is examined inside the written papers. Those are genuinely different revision jobs and a tutor needs to know which applies.

IGCSE Chemistry

Cambridge 0620 · Edexcel 4CH1

Moles and reacting masses are where marks disappear quietly, because the arithmetic feels easy and goes unpractised. At Extended tier and on Edexcel, organic chemistry asks students to predict rather than recall, which catches out anyone who learned reactions as a list.

IGCSE Biology

Cambridge 0610 · Edexcel 4BI1

The subject where precise terminology earns or loses the most marks. Students who understand the biology perfectly and describe it loosely score below students who know less and write exactly. Extended-response questions about experimental design are the other reliable weak point.

IGCSE English Language

Cambridge 0500 · Edexcel 4EA1

Reading questions reward evidence selection and writing questions reward structure, and those are separate skills. A strong reader with weak structure and a strong writer with weak reading both score in the middle, and the remedy for each is the opposite of the other.

IGCSE English Literature

Cambridge 0475 · Edexcel 4ET1

Set texts differ by school, so the first thing a tutor needs is the text list. Marks go to close textual reference rather than to plot knowledge, and timed essay practice against the school's actual question format is the highest-value work available here.

IGCSE Economics and Business Studies

Cambridge 0455 and 0450

Popular choices in Dubai and both heavily dependent on command terms. Students lose marks by explaining when asked to analyse, or by giving an answer without an evaluation where the question carries evaluation marks. Both are fixable in a handful of sessions.

IGCSE Computer Science and ICT

Cambridge 0478 and 0417

Two different subjects that families often confuse. Computer Science is algorithms, data representation and programming logic; ICT is applied use of software with practical assessment. Confirm which one your child takes before booking, because the tutoring is not interchangeable.

IGCSE Arabic

Cambridge 0508 first language · 0544 foreign language

Relevant to most Dubai families because Arabic is a mandatory school subject regardless of curriculum, and separate streams exist for Arab and non-Arab students. Which syllabus a child is entered for depends on that stream, so check it with the school before arranging support.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three arrangements cover nearly every IGCSE request from The Greens. The differences that matter are session length, how many subjects are involved and how close the series is.

One subject, one weekly slot

A standing sixty or ninety-minute session in the subject that is costing grades, held for the term. Ninety minutes suits Mathematics and the sciences because a full past-paper question and its mark scheme rarely fit inside an hour, while sixty is usually enough for English or a humanities subject.

  • Start times from 5pm to 8:30pm Gulf Standard Time
  • Same tutor each week, with a short written note afterwards
  • Content follows the school's sequence, checked against the specification

Two subjects, sequential slots, one evening

Back-to-back sessions in two subjects, usually with two different tutors, on the evening that is reliably free. Because nothing travels between them there is no gap to pay for, and a Year 11 student can clear two subjects in one committed evening instead of spreading them across the week.

  • Two specialists rather than one generalist across both subjects
  • Lengths split unevenly where one subject needs more
  • Also used for two children in the same household

Pre-series intensive block

A concentrated run in the weeks before a June or November series, aimed at papers rather than content. Timing, command terms, mark-scheme structure, and the practical component in whichever form the board uses. Content gaps are filled only where a sat paper has exposed them.

  • Full papers sat to time and marked live against official criteria
  • Board-correct practical technique, which differs between Cambridge and Edexcel
  • Official papers cited and linked, never reproduced or supplied

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in The Greens

01

What a home tutor in The Greens actually involves, and what it costs

Take the question at face value first. In-home one-to-one tuition is a real and widely available service in Dubai, and the published rates for it sit between AED 180 and 500 an hour: Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate work puts it at AED 180 to 350, while independent home tutors advertise AED 200 to 500. Monthly packages observed in the market run around AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visiting sessions. Those are other providers' published figures as of the October 2026 research, not our prices.

The thing to understand about that band is what sits inside it. A visiting tutor's hour includes their journey, and in this part of Dubai the journey is unpredictable rather than long. Crossing Sheikh Zayed Road at six in the evening, finding visitor parking in a Greens building, getting through access control and up a lift: none of that is dramatic, but all of it is time somebody is paying for, and it is why a short session is rarely offered and why an arrival time can only ever be approximate. Compare the two advertised monthly packages in the market and the shape of the trade becomes visible: roughly double the monthly outlay for half the number of contacts, because two-hour visits are how a travelling tutor makes the economics work.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; home visits are a service we provide only in India. Every lesson for a family here is taught one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. That is stated plainly because the alternative, implying a service we do not sell, would waste your time and ours. The argument for it is in the table below, which compares the four options a Greens family actually has on the things that differ between them rather than on sentiment.

02

Does anybody within reach of The Greens actually know 0580?

This is the part of the question that distance cannot solve, and it is worth being blunt about. The Greens is an apartment community of a few thousand homes. The number of adults living within a fifteen-minute drive who have taught Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 at Extended tier, or marked Pearson Edexcel 4PH1 against the published mark scheme, is small. It is not zero, and some of them are excellent. But a search filtered by distance returns the whole local supply of competent adults, not the small subset who know your child's specification, and it has no way of telling you which is which.

What you get instead, in practice, is a mixed field. Engineering and finance professionals who are genuinely good at mathematics. University students who sat these examinations recently and remember them. Retired teachers from other systems. Science graduates who can rebuild a topic from scratch. Every one of those can help a child who has missed two weeks of work. None of them reliably knows that a Cambridge Extended candidate sits different papers from a Core candidate, or that Edexcel assesses practical skills inside the written papers while Cambridge uses a separate component worth twenty per cent.

The table below is a filter you can apply in the first five minutes of any conversation, whoever you are talking to. Each row gives a subject, a question to ask, what an answer from somebody who knows the specification sounds like, and what a polite guess sounds like. The questions are deliberately narrow, because broad questions about teaching philosophy cannot be failed. Use them on us as well as on anybody else.

03

Find the syllabus code before you book anything

One email to your school's exams officer gives you the board, the syllabus code and the tier for every subject your child takes. That is the single most valuable ten minutes available to a Greens parent considering tuition, and almost nobody does it first. Without it, the opening session of any arrangement is spent establishing which examination the child is sitting, which is an hour you paid for to learn something an email would have told you.

The reason it matters is that the same subject name covers different examinations. Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics is 0580 and Pearson Edexcel's Specification A is 4MA1. Cambridge Physics is 0625 and Edexcel's is 4PH1. The papers differ in format, in tiering and in how practical skills are assessed, and past-paper practice is not transferable between them. A tutor preparing a child for a separate practical paper that their board does not set has wasted the sessions, and the family usually discovers this in the spring.

Schools also mix boards across subjects more often than parents realise, particularly after a mid-course transfer. A student can be entered for Cambridge in mathematics and Edexcel in a science without anybody flagging it, because within the school each department is simply doing what it always does. Ask for the full list in one request: subject, board, syllabus code, tier where applicable, and the series your child is entered for. Keep the reply. It is the brief for every tutoring conversation you have for the next two years.

04

Core or Extended, and the decision nobody tells you is being made

On several Cambridge IGCSE subjects a candidate is entered either for Core or for Extended, and the two sit different papers and are eligible for different grade ranges, with Extended being the route to the top grades. The decision is taken by the school, usually in Year 11 and sometimes later than parents expect, and it is finalised at the entry deadline, which falls months before the examinations. In the UAE the live series is June, and Cambridge entries for it close in the spring, roughly four months ahead of the first paper; the exact date for a given centre is confirmed on the statement of entry the school issues rather than announced publicly. The practical effect is that a Core placement can be hardening into a final answer while the student still has most of a year of teaching left to prove otherwise.

Families in The Greens often learn about tiering only when a report mentions it. That is unfortunate, because a tier decision is reversible before entry and extremely difficult afterwards. If your child is capable of Extended and has been placed on Core because of a weak run in the autumn term, the window to change that is the term before the deadline rather than the term after it. This is one of the few situations where targeted tuition has a hard deadline attached and a clear, measurable objective.

Pearson Edexcel single sciences are untiered, so families on that board face no equivalent decision, though Edexcel Mathematics Specification A does have Foundation and Higher tiers. The practical instruction is the same either way: ask the school which tier your child is entered for, when the decision is finalised, and what evidence would support a change. Then work backwards from the entry deadline, not from the examination date.

Verifying a tutor before you let them teach your child

If you do engage somebody to teach your child, in your home or on a screen, there are things worth checking first, and most of them take a single question. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, with applications through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system.

Anyone offering private tutoring without that permit is, in the ministry's words, subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, which means any page quoting a specific amount is guessing, and you should discount it. Asking a prospective tutor whether they hold the permit is an entirely normal question, and a reluctance to answer it is information in itself.

There is a further point about who may teach your child. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar private and charter school staff from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school. That is press-reported rather than read from the policy document, so verify it before relying on the exact wording, but the principle is sound across the UAE: your child's own class teacher, privately, is not an arrangement anybody should be marketing to you. The table below lists what is worth verifying and how.

What the travel premium buys, and what it costs you

The clearest way to think about in-home tuition is to isolate the premium and ask what it purchases. Online one-to-one in the Dubai market sits in a band of roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour for a qualified subject tutor and AED 200 to 450 and above for an IGCSE or IB specialist, per Unitors, TutorChase and Bestimate's 2026 rate work. In-home one-to-one is quoted at AED 180 to 500, with Bestimate at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors at AED 200 to 500. The overlap is real, so the premium is not uniform, but at the top of each band it is substantial.

What the premium buys is physical presence, and for some students that is worth paying for. A child who cannot stay off a phone without an adult in the room, a younger student who needs the social cue of somebody sitting beside them, a household where a screen session simply will not be respected: those are honest reasons and they are not solved by a better platform. What the premium does not buy is subject depth, because the price is set by travel and availability rather than by expertise. The pool of people willing to drive to a Greens apartment on a Tuesday evening is not the pool of people who have taught your child's specification.

What it costs you is session frequency and flexibility. Advertised Dubai packages run around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions against AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visiting sessions, which is roughly twice the money for half the contacts. For IGCSE, where grades move through repeated practice against mark schemes rather than through long explanations, frequency is the variable that matters most. A shorter session twice a week usually outperforms a two-hour block once a week, and the shorter session only exists when nobody is travelling. All of these figures are other providers' published rates as of October 2026 and not an IB Gram price list.

Eight weeks out: what to do if your Year 11 has left it late

A fair number of enquiries from this community arrive eight to ten weeks before a series, and the honest answer is that eight weeks is enough to move a grade and not enough to rebuild two years. What decides the outcome is whether the time is spent on the right thing, and the right thing at eight weeks is almost never fresh content. It is identifying which marks are recoverable and drilling those.

Start by sitting one full past paper to time, unaided, in each subject of concern, and marking it against the official mark scheme rather than against a sense of how it went. That exercise typically reveals that a third of the lost marks come from questions the student could do but ran out of time for, another third from command terms misread, and the rest from genuine content gaps. Those three categories have different remedies and only the last one needs teaching. Families who skip the diagnostic spend the eight weeks revising content that was never the problem.

Then work the categories in order of return. Timing drills first, because they are the cheapest marks available. Command-term structure second, with answers rewritten against the mark scheme until the shape is automatic. Content last, and only the topics the paper actually exposed. For Cambridge science candidates, add dedicated practical-component work, because twenty per cent of the grade sits there and it is the component most often left untouched until the final fortnight. The table below sets out a workable eight-week shape.

Getting started from The Greens, and what happens if nobody covers your subject

The enquiry that gets a useful answer fastest contains the board, the syllabus code, the tier where there is one, the last paper mark and the two evening windows that are genuinely free. With those, a tutor can tell you in a single reply whether the issue is content, timing or command terms, and quote a plan against your actual week. Without the code, the first session is an investigation rather than a lesson.

Then a free trial lesson, one per student and bookable without card details, with the tutor who would continue. For IGCSE a good trial includes a real past-paper question from your child's board, because twenty minutes of that reveals more than any conversation. Expect the tutor to name the paper and the command term rather than to talk about confidence. If the match is wrong, say so and ask for another; that costs nothing and it beats three paid sessions of politeness.

The honest caveat is about coverage. Mathematics, the sciences and English are well covered. Some subjects are thinner: Computer Science, Additional Mathematics, Arabic as a first language and the smaller humanities have fewer specialists, and the eight weeks before a series are when every good slot is already taken. If no suitable tutor is free in the window you need, you will be told, with a date, rather than matched to a generalist. Where a UAE-based tutor is not available for a niche subject, the alternative offered is a UAE-timed session with a specialist based elsewhere, delivered in the same format at the same Gulf Standard Time hour. Nobody will be sent to a Greens address, because that is not a service offered here.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around The Greens

The Greens sits in a tight cluster of communities on both sides of Sheikh Zayed Road, and the practical differences between them are school route and how early a parent gets home. Both change what an IGCSE tuition arrangement can look like.

The Views

Directly adjacent, taller buildings, overlooking Emirates Golf Club, and sharing Regent International School with The Greens. Families move between the two communities without changing schools, so the same tutor often teaches children from both in one week.

Barsha Heights

Minutes away and where a large number of Greens parents work. The short commute is the reason weekday sessions from this community can start at 6pm rather than seven, which is earlier than the villa communities across the road manage.

Al Barsha

The main secondary destination, holding GEMS Dubai American Academy, Nord Anglia International School Dubai, Kings' School Al Barsha and others. The afternoon return is slow enough that any weekday session before 5pm is unrealistic for children at this cluster.

The Meadows

Villas across Sheikh Zayed Road, with Emirates International School Meadows and its IB continuum. Children there may sit MYP assessments rather than IGCSE, which matters when neighbours compare notes and assume the same examinations.

The Springs

Townhouses with a heavy British-curriculum flow into Dubai British School Emirates Hills, so this is where the IGCSE cohort in Emirates Living is densest. Greens families often share transport with Springs households, which fixes pickup times.

Jumeirah Lake Towers

Office and apartment towers on the other side of Sheikh Zayed Road, with families crossing in both directions for school. Evening traffic between JLT and The Greens is the practical reason a visiting tutor's arrival time cannot be promised.

Dubai Marina

A longer drive but a shared social circle and several shared schools. Marina households run later evenings, so a tutor holding a late slot often has students in both communities on the same night.

Al Sufouh

Dubai College and GEMS Wellington International School sit on this stretch towards the coast. Greens families with a child at either are usually asking about Extended tier and sixth-form entry rather than about board choice.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in The Greens

Inside The Greens and The Views

The school within the community itself, which is why a large share of local primary and lower-secondary children never leave the neighbourhood for the school run. It runs the British curriculum, so IGCSE is the examination at sixteen.

  • Regent International School

Al Barsha, Barsha Heights and Al Sufouh

The twenty-minute ring and the destination for most Greens secondary students. A mix of British, American and IB provision, which is why two children in the same tower can be sitting completely different examinations at sixteen.

  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • American School of Dubai
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Dubai College
  • Repton School Al Barsha

Emirates Living and Emirates Hills

Across Sheikh Zayed Road, reached in ten to fifteen minutes. The British-route schools here take a number of Greens students, and the two IB schools are the reason some local families switch systems at sixteen.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Email the exams officer first

Ask the school for the board, syllabus code, tier and series for every subject your child takes, and keep the reply. It is the brief for every tutoring conversation for the next two years, and it prevents the single most common waste in this market: preparing a candidate for a paper their board does not set.

  2. 02

Send the codes and two free evenings

Tell us the codes, the most recent paper marks and the two weekday windows that genuinely survive activities and the commute. Availability is the real constraint on matching a specialist, so naming two actual windows places your child considerably faster than saying 'after school'.

  3. 03

Sit one full paper before the first lesson

A complete past paper, to time and unaided, marked against the official mark scheme. It sorts lost marks into timing, command terms and content gaps, which are three different problems with three different remedies. Most families find the content gap is the smallest of the three.

  4. 04

A trial with a real paper question in it

One free trial per student, no card details needed, with the tutor who would continue, using a question from your child's own board. Expect them to name the paper and the command term. A trial that stays general has told you something useful about how specific the teaching will be.

  5. 05

Work backwards from the entry deadline

Entries close months before the examinations and the tier decision is fixed at that point, so the plan is built from the deadline rather than from the exam date. For a Cambridge candidate that also means confirming the correct zone timetable through the school's exams officer rather than from a generic copy.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The delivery format stated plainly

IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; home visits are an India-only service. Everything here is taught one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time. Saying so on the page rather than after an enquiry saves everybody a conversation, and two competitors in this search route UAE parents to overseas numbers without mentioning it.

Matched by syllabus code

A tutor is matched to Cambridge 0580 or Edexcel 4MA1 specifically, not to 'IGCSE Maths'. Those are different papers with different formats and the past-paper practice is not interchangeable, which is the single most common reason a well-meaning local arrangement produces no grade movement.

In-home rates published, not hidden

The visiting rates quoted on this page, AED 180 to 500 an hour, come from Bestimate's 2026 Dubai work and from independent home tutors' own advertising, with the October 2026 research date. Three of the six strongest pages in this search publish no price at all and two quote in US dollars.

Verification questions you can use anywhere

The permit to ask about, the code to ask for, the paper question to request in a trial: all of it works on any provider, including this one. A page that hands you a filter it might fail is more use than one that explains why it cannot be compared.

Sessions that fit an apartment evening

No parking, no building access, no lift, and no approximate arrival time. A session starts when your child sits down, can shift by half an hour on the day, and can be sixty minutes rather than two hours because nobody has to justify a journey to The Greens.

Coverage limits disclosed

Computer Science, Additional Mathematics, first-language Arabic and the smaller humanities have fewer specialists, and the eight weeks before a series are the most contested. When nobody suitable is free you are told with a date. No competitor page examined in this research discloses a coverage limit at all.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in The Greens: your questions answered

Are home tutors available in The Greens for IGCSE?+

In-home tuition is a real and widely advertised service in Dubai, with published rates of roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour and the travel inside that figure. IB Gram does not provide it: we do not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE, because home visits are a service we run only in India. Everything we teach UAE families is one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. The reason is subject depth rather than cost, since the pool of people who will drive to a Greens apartment is not the pool who know your child's syllabus.

Is a tutor on a screen really as useful as one in the apartment?+

For most IGCSE work, yes, and for some of it more so. Grades at this level move through repeated practice against mark schemes, and a shared screen lets a past paper, the mark scheme and the student's own answer sit side by side while a tutor marks it live. Where physical presence genuinely wins is attention management: a student who cannot stay off a phone without an adult beside them has a different problem, and it is worth naming honestly rather than solving with a platform. Everything else, including practical-paper technique, teaches well remotely.

How do I find out which IGCSE syllabus code my child is sitting?+

Email your school's exams officer and ask for the board, the syllabus code, the tier where one applies, and the series for every subject your child takes. Schools mix boards across departments more often than parents expect, especially after a transfer, so ask for the full list rather than assuming. Cambridge Mathematics is 0580 and Pearson Edexcel Specification A is 4MA1; Cambridge Physics is 0625 and Edexcel is 4PH1. Keep the reply, because it is the brief for every tutoring conversation you will have for the next two years.

The school has put my child on Core. Is that decision still open?+

Potentially, but only before the entry deadline, which falls months ahead of the examinations. For a UAE candidate the series that matters is June — the February and March series is offered to India only — and Cambridge entries for June close in the spring, well before the final term of teaching, with the exact date given on the centre's statement of entry rather than in any public announcement. So the window to change a placement is the term before that date rather than after it. Ask the school which tier your child is entered for, when the decision is finalised and what evidence of attainment would support a change. Once entries close it is not practically reversible for that series, and the realistic remedy becomes the November series as a resit, which is a different conversation and a different cost. That is what makes this a deadline worth diarising.

What does a home visit add to the hourly rate in Dubai?+

The travel sits inside the rate, which is why visiting tuition is quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour against roughly AED 150 to 450 for online one-to-one depending on specialism. The clearer comparison is monthly: advertised Dubai packages run around AED 799 for eight online sessions against AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visiting sessions. That is roughly double the outlay for half the contacts, because long visits are how a travelling tutor makes the journey viable. All figures are other providers' published rates as of October 2026.

Which schools do children living in The Greens attend?+

Regent International School sits inside the community itself and runs the British curriculum, so a large share of local primary and lower-secondary children never leave the neighbourhood for the school run. Secondary students more often travel to the Al Barsha and Barsha Heights cluster, which includes GEMS Dubai American Academy, Nord Anglia International School Dubai and Kings' School Al Barsha, or across Sheikh Zayed Road to the Emirates Living schools. Schools are named here as context only; confirm current provision with the school and the published record with KHDA.

Do private tutors in Dubai need a permit to teach in someone's home?+

Yes. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit: the private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is issued by MoHRE and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Anyone tutoring without a permit is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule has been published.

How can I check a tutor is permitted before the first paid session?+

Ask directly, before money changes hands. A permitted tutor will name the permit and the eligibility category they applied under without hesitating, because it is an ordinary government process with a two-working-day turnaround and no fee. Also ask where they currently teach, since permit conduct rules and school ethics policies restrict a teacher from taking paid private work with students from their own school. Reluctance to answer either question is itself informative. None of this is an aggressive line of enquiry; it is the same diligence you would apply to anyone working with your child.

My child has eight weeks until the exams. Is it too late to start?+

Eight weeks is enough to move a grade and not enough to rebuild two years, and the difference lies in what the time is spent on. Begin with one full past paper per subject, to time and unaided, marked against the official mark scheme. That usually shows a third of lost marks came from running out of time, a third from misread command terms and the rest from genuine content gaps. Only the last category needs teaching. Working them in that order, timing first, is what makes eight weeks productive rather than frantic.

Can one tutor cover both Maths and Physics IGCSE for the same child?+

Often yes, because the two overlap heavily in formula handling, rearrangement and graph work, and a mathematically strong tutor can carry both at Core and lower Extended level. At the top of Extended, or where a student is chasing the highest grade in one of them, a subject specialist is the better use of the hour. The arrangement many Greens families settle on is one tutor maintaining the stronger subject and a specialist for the one costing grades, booked as sequential slots on the same evening since nothing has to travel between them.

Where should a child revise in a two-bedroom apartment?+

Somewhere with a door, a table and no television, which in a two-bedroom apartment usually means negotiating rather than choosing. A bedroom desk works if the bed is out of sight; a dining table works if the room is declared quiet for a fixed hour. What rarely works is a sofa with a laptop. For an online session the practical requirements are small, headphones, a charged device and a surface for paper, and the headphones matter more than people expect in a flat where somebody else is cooking or watching something fifteen feet away.

How quickly can an IGCSE tutor be matched for a family in The Greens?+

For Mathematics, the sciences and English, usually within a few days outside peak season, because those specialisms are the best covered. For Computer Science, Additional Mathematics, first-language Arabic or a smaller humanities subject it takes longer, and in the eight weeks before a series every good evening slot is already committed. You will be given a date rather than a reassurance. The fastest route is to send the syllabus codes and two genuinely free evening windows in the first message, because availability rather than willingness is what sets the timeline.

My child takes Maths with Cambridge and a science with Edexcel. Does that cause problems?+

It is more common than families realise and it causes no problem as long as everybody knows. Schools mix boards by department, so a single candidate can sit Cambridge in one subject and Pearson Edexcel in another, with different paper formats, different grading scales and different practical arrangements. The risk is a tutor assuming one board across both subjects and using the wrong past papers. Send the full list of codes rather than the subject names, and each tutor works from the correct specification from the first session.

Does my child need five IGCSE subjects for a UAE-recognised certificate?+

On the British track the Ministry of Education requires five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus either one Advanced Level subject at no less than E or two Advanced Subsidiary Level subjects at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five. At least one page ranking for UAE tutoring searches states six subjects, which is wrong. Equivalency is a Ministry process that no tutoring provider performs or expedites, so verify the current rule through the Ministry's own channels before dropping any subject.

Two emails, then a decision

The useful next step costs nothing and takes ten minutes. Email the school for your child's boards, syllabus codes, tiers and entry deadline, and keep the reply. Then ask any prospective tutor, including us, one narrow question about that specific syllabus, and listen to whether they answer it or talk around it. Those two steps will tell you more than any amount of browsing, and they work equally well on a visiting tutor, a centre or a platform. When you have the codes and two evenings that are genuinely free, a free trial lesson with the tutor who would teach the course is the sensible way to test the rest.
