IGCSE October November Exam Preparation in the UAE

IGCSE October November exam preparation in the UAE is a short, expensive stretch of road: eight to twelve weeks, a fixed first paper, and a bill that families usually settle without ever being told how the number was built. This page prices it. Market rates in AED, what each band of hourly rate actually contains, what pushes your own figure above or below it, and what a block of one-to-one hours buys that a group class cannot. Lessons are delivered live online, one to one, on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Every AED figure here is a market rate, attributed and dated
  • Delivered live online, one to one, with no travel inside the rate
  • A written hour count and a total before any block begins
  • A tutor teaches and gives feedback; assessed work stays the student's own

IB & IGCSE in the UAE

The autumn series is a purchase, so price it like one

The October November series is the autumn IGCSE sitting. Cambridge International runs a November series alongside its June one, and Pearson Edexcel examines International GCSE in May/June and November each year, with the November 2026 final timetable running from late October to 19 November 2026. In the UAE almost nobody is entered for it as a first attempt. The families buying IGCSE October November exam preparation are, with very few exceptions, buying a second attempt after August results, a private-candidate entry their school would not open, or a single subject taken a year early to clear space in Year 11.

That changes what the money is for. A September-to-June course spreads twenty-odd weeks of teaching across a school year somebody else is already paying for. An autumn block has eight to twelve weeks, a published first paper date and no second chance inside the same calendar year. Hours bought late are worth less per dirham than hours bought early, because more of each late hour goes on triage and less on teaching. That is the one piece of pricing arithmetic nobody selling tutoring in this market puts on a page, and it is the reason a family who starts looking in late August pays less for a better result than one who starts in mid-October.

Pricing here is deliberately vague. Of the six competitor pages fetched and dissected for this project in October 2026, three published no price at all, and the two that did quoted US dollars at families who transact in dirhams. One agency's own FAQ asks what tutoring costs and then declines to answer it. The figures used below are gathered from providers' own published pages and from Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table, attributed each time they appear. They are market rates, not an IB Gram price list. Our own figure for your child's block is quoted in writing after the trial lesson, with the hour count beside it.

Delivery matters to the arithmetic, so here it is plainly. IB Gram teaches UAE students live online, one to one, over video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visiting is a service we offer only in India. That is not a limitation dressed up as a benefit. It takes the travel component out of the rate, it lets a family in Fujairah book the same Economics specialist a family in Dubai books, and it makes a 45-minute drill on Paper 4 timing worth scheduling at all, which a tutor who has just driven across town cannot justify.

Read it in order if you are still deciding whether to spend. The budget breakdown comes first, then the market rates with their sources, then the drivers that move your own figure. After that comes what each remaining week is still worth, counted from the day you start looking, and the two things families tend to find out late: that the cheapest hour often belongs to someone with no MoHRE private tutor permit, and that no sum of money buys a mark for work which has to be the student's own.

At a glance

  • Market rates across the UAE run roughly AED 45 to 650 an hour, by band and format
  • Travel is the largest avoidable line in an autumn budget; online delivery removes it
  • A private-candidate entry fee is set and published by the centre, not by the board
  • The MoHRE private tuition work permit is free of charge and valid for two years
  • Five IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3 are what Ministry equivalency counts
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Four qualifications turn up in an autumn conversation in the UAE: the two International GCSE boards most British-curriculum schools here use, Cambridge O Level where a school still runs it, and the A-Level year the IGCSE grade is usually a gate to. The money question looks different for each, because the number of papers and the amount of carried-forward coursework differ.

CAIEAges 14 to 16, Years 10 and 11

Cambridge IGCSE, Core and Extended

The syllabus most British-curriculum schools in the Emirates teach, examined in a June series and a November series. Subjects are tiered: Core caps the grade available, Extended carries extra syllabus content and the full grade range. Entries, tiering and access arrangements are filed by the school's exams officer, never by a parent or a tutor, and the tier on the entry is what the candidate sits.

Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and warns that centres must use the timetable version for their own zone, because it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss a paper after using the wrong one. Two UAE schools can therefore print different start times for the same paper, which matters when you are booking an evening slot the night before.

EDEXCELAges 14 to 16, Years 10 and 11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Examined in May/June and November each year, with some subjects available in a modular structure that lets a candidate bank a unit rather than re-sit everything. The November 2026 final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026; November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026.

The autumn-to-winter results gap is the line most UAE families miss. A November paper does not produce a certificate in December, so a sixth-form or university deadline in January needs checking against the published results date before any hours are bought. Pearson issues provisional timetables ahead of each series, so confirm the live PDF on qualifications.pearson.com rather than a figure on a tutoring page.

O LEVELAges 15 to 17

Cambridge O Level

Still offered by a handful of schools in the Emirates and still examined in June and November series. Content overlaps heavily with Extended IGCSE in the sciences and mathematics, but component structure and practical assessment differ enough that a tutor must be told which one the entry names. Buying hours against the wrong specification is the most wasteful mistake available in an eight-week block.

Where a UAE school runs O Level for some subjects and IGCSE for others, the two sit in the same autumn window and the revision load collides. Families in this position usually buy fewer, tighter sessions on the components that differ between the two specifications, rather than general revision across both.

A LEVELAges 16 to 18, Years 12 and 13

AS and A Level, the grade equivalency also asks for

The reason an autumn IGCSE resit is often worth paying for: sixth-form entry conditions are written in IGCSE grades, and the UAE Ministry of Education equivalency route for British-curriculum students asks for one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade.

That published requirement is why a family should check what the weak IGCSE grade actually blocks before buying hours. If five counting subjects are already at E or grade 3 and the A-Level place is secure, the autumn money is often better spent on the AS year than on repairing a sixth IGCSE nobody will read.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Subject choice drives price more than most families expect, because the specialist pool in the Emirates is deep in some subjects and thin in others. Syllabus codes are given so you can check which specification the entry names before paying for an hour against the wrong one.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580, Edexcel 4MA1)

Core and Extended, Foundation and Higher

The deepest tutor pool in the market and therefore the most competitive on rate. Autumn resit marks are usually recovered in method marks rather than new content: working not shown, exact answers rounded early, and the non-calculator paper treated as the calculator one. A resit block here is technique work, and it is short.

Physics (Cambridge 0625, Edexcel 4PH1)

Core and Extended

Electricity and the circuit questions are where autumn candidates lose a recoverable block of marks, usually because the circuit is redrawn wrongly before any calculation starts. Practical assessment is school-based or sat as the alternative-to-practical paper, and which one applies to a resit candidate is a decision for the centre, not the tutor.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620, Edexcel 4CH1)

Core and Extended

Moles calculations and organic reaction pathways carry the marks that move a grade in eight weeks. Qualitative analysis and ionic equations reward drilled recall rather than understanding, which makes them the cheapest marks in the subject to buy back with a tight topic list and timed questions.

Biology (Cambridge 0610, Edexcel 4BI1)

Core and Extended

A content-heavy subject where autumn candidates often know more than their grade suggests and lose marks on command words: describe answered as explain, compare answered as a list. Experimental-skills questions on data and variables are the other predictable loss, and both respond quickly to mark-scheme work.

English as a Second Language (Cambridge 0510 and 0511)

Core and Extended

Frequently the subject standing between a candidate and a complete set of five counting grades. Reading and writing marks turn on format discipline: the register asked for, the word count respected, the task's audience addressed. Speaking is assessed separately by the centre and does not move in a written resit.

First Language English (Cambridge 0500)

Single tier

Directed writing and the extended response reward structure that can be taught in a handful of sessions, which is why this is one of the better value autumn subjects. The reading paper is where candidates lose marks by summarising when the question asks for analysis of the writer's choices.

Economics (Cambridge 0455)

Single tier

A thin specialist pool in the Emirates, so the rate sits above mathematics for the same hour. Autumn marks come back fastest on diagram accuracy and on the evaluation sentence that most candidates leave off the end of a longer answer. Data-response technique is learnable in weeks, not months.

Business Studies (Cambridge 0450)

Single tier

Application to the case material is the whole game, and generic answers are the standard autumn failure. A short block spent rewriting past answers against the mark scheme, naming the business in every point, usually moves more marks than any amount of re-reading notes.

Computer Science (Cambridge 0478)

Single tier

One of the scarcest subjects in the local market, which is exactly where online delivery changes the price: the pool becomes national rather than drivable. Pseudocode tracing and the theory paper's number-system questions are the two areas where a resit candidate reliably has marks left on the table.

Arabic and Islamic Education alongside IGCSE

First language and additional language streams

Mandatory in Dubai private schools whatever the licensed curriculum, with KHDA requiring separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs and appropriate KHDA approval for the teachers who deliver them. Worth knowing before an autumn resit: the published equivalency clarification excludes Arabic and Islamic Education from the five required subjects.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three shapes of block cover almost every autumn request, and each prices differently per unit of progress. The right one depends on how many weeks are left and whether the diagnosis is a single component or a whole subject. All three run live online, one to one unless you ask to share.

A counted block to the first paper

A fixed number of hours with an end date, agreed before the first paid session. You see the hour count, the weekly slots and the total in writing, and the block simply ends when the paper is sat. No rolling monthly commitment, because an autumn candidate has no use for one in December.

  • Hour count set after the trial lesson, not before
  • Slots fixed in Gulf Standard Time around school and prayer times
  • A mid-block re-check two weeks before the first paper
  • Unused hours lapse at the series, they are not rolled on

One paper, one topic list

For the resitter whose grade failed on a single component. The tutor reads the statement of results, picks the two or three topic areas carrying recoverable marks, and works only on those under exam timing. It is the cheapest useful purchase in this market because almost none of the hour is spent on content already secure.

  • Starts from the component marks, not a general assessment
  • Past-paper questions timed to the real paper length
  • Mark-scheme reading, so the student can self-mark between sessions
  • Typically 12 to 20 hours rather than 40

A shared hour for two candidates on the same paper

Two students sitting the same paper at the same tier can take an hour together at a lower figure each. It works when the diagnosis genuinely overlaps and fails when one is two grades ahead, because the hour then runs at the slower student's pace and both families pay for the compromise.

  • Same board, same subject, same tier, same series
  • Attention per student is roughly half, not the same
  • Useful for timing drills and marking practice, weak for a single gap
  • Either family can move back to one to one at any point

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in the UAE

01

Who sits the October November series here, and what the money is for

Five kinds of candidate sit the autumn series in the Emirates, and they are not buying the same thing at all. A one-subject resitter working from an August statement of results needs paper technique on two or three topic areas and very little else. A private candidate starting from no classroom teaching needs the syllabus delivered from the beginning. Paying resitter prices for a private-candidate job, or the reverse, is the most common way a family ends up with a bill that does not match the outcome it wanted.

The distinction that matters most inside that list is between revision and teaching. Revision assumes the content is in there somewhere and the marks are being lost in execution: a command word misread, working not shown, a definition recalled loosely, an answer that runs out of time. Teaching assumes the content is absent and has to be built. Revision hours are cheaper per unit of progress because almost none of each hour goes on construction, and a tutor who cannot tell you which of the two your child needs after a single lesson has not diagnosed anything worth paying for.

Work out which row of the table below your child occupies before asking anybody for a rate. Then ask for the hour count that goes with the row rather than an hourly price on its own. A quoted AED figure means nothing until it is multiplied out: AED 200 an hour over thirty-six hours is a different decision from AED 350 an hour over sixteen, and in a short autumn window the second is frequently the better buy. The table also sets out the shape of block each candidate type usually needs, which is the number to argue about.

02

The autumn-series budget, line by line

Tuition hours are the visible cost and rarely the only one. An autumn entry carries charges that come from the examination centre rather than from a tutor, and families who budget only for lessons meet the rest in sequence over about ten weeks. Every line below is real, and every line is one you can get in writing before committing, which is the whole point of listing them together.

Entry fees are the line most often misunderstood. The board sets the qualification; the centre sets and publishes what it charges a private candidate to sit there, which is why two centres in the same emirate can quote differently for the same paper. Ask for the fee list and the entry deadline in the same message, because the deadline is the thing that costs money if it slips. Pearson's November 2026 International GCSE timetable ran from late October through to 19 November 2026, and the entry that bought a seat at those papers had closed months before the first of them - the clearest available illustration of how far ahead of a paper the money decision actually sits. Cambridge's November series behaves the same way on its own published dates, and the deadline that binds is the one the centre names to you in writing rather than anything you can infer from the timetable.

The remaining lines are smaller but they are not noise. An enquiry about results after the series has its own per-paper charge, usually refunded only where a grade changes. Paper days mean travel for a private candidate, and a subject with three components means three separate journeys. A second subject does not add a second tuition bill alone; it adds a second entry, a second set of paper days and a second topic list competing for the same ten weeks. Put the whole set on one page before deciding how many subjects the autumn can carry.

What the UAE market charges an hour, and what each band contains

Here are the rates, with their sources, which is more than the pages currently ranking for this search will give you. The bands come from providers' own published pages and from Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table, all read in October 2026. They describe the market. They are not an IB Gram price list, and any page that presents a market band as its own price is doing something you should notice.

The useful part is not the number but what the number contains. Two tutors can both quote AED 200 an hour and sell completely different hours: one supervises homework and works through examples the student chooses, the other arrives with the component mark breakdown, a topic list drawn from the statement of results, and a past paper timed to the real duration. The second is the one that moves a resit grade in ten weeks. Monthly packages seen in this market run around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour visiting sessions, which is a useful reminder that session length and format, not quality, explain most of the spread.

Bestimate's own monthly estimates for one weekly hour run roughly AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support. Read those alongside the KHDA confirmation of 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for 2026-27 under the emirate's second economic incentives package. School fees are flat this year; tutoring is the line in the household education budget that is still moving, which is the context the rate table below sits inside.

The six things that actually move your own number

A band is not a quote. Two families in the same community, both buying IGCSE October November exam preparation for Extended Physics, can be quoted figures a hundred dirhams apart, and the difference is almost never quality. It is weeks remaining, subject scarcity, component count, tier, format and time of day. Those six drivers are listed below with the direction each pushes in and the part of it you can still change.

Weeks remaining is the driver families control and ignore. Inside six weeks the hours per week rise, the evening slots thin out, and the tutor is pricing a compressed commitment rather than a comfortable one. Subject scarcity is the driver families cannot control locally but can route around: Economics, Computer Science and Additional Mathematics have far fewer specialists in the Emirates than Mathematics does, and the moment delivery is online the pool stops being your emirate and becomes the country. That is the single largest price effect on this page for anybody outside Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Tier is the driver that wastes money silently. A candidate entered at Core who is tutored on Extended content spends hours on material that cannot appear on the paper, and the tier on the entry is set by the school's exams officer, not by the family. Confirm it in writing before the first paid hour. Format and timing are the two levers you can pull for an immediate reduction: a 5pm slot costs less to secure than a 7pm one, and an hour shared with a classmate sitting the identical paper at the identical tier halves the figure while roughly halving the attention, which is a trade worth making only when the diagnosis genuinely overlaps.

What waiting costs: late August, September, October

Every week a family spends deciding is a week removed from the plan, and the plan shrinks in a specific order. Content you have never been taught goes first, then the second subject, then the tier decision, then anything that is not pure technique. By the last fortnight the only purchasable thing left is timing and command-word discipline. That order is worth knowing because it tells you what you are actually giving up while you compare quotes.

A family starting in late August with results in hand has roughly twelve weeks and genuine slack: a re-teach of the weaker half of the syllabus, then four or five whole papers under timed conditions with marking between them. A family starting in mid-September has about eight weeks, which is two or three topic areas and then timed papers, and a second subject only if it is already close. By early October the realistic purchase is one paper, one topic list and mark-scheme drill, and the tier can no longer be changed because the entry has closed.

None of this argues for panic buying. It argues for separating the diagnosis from the block. A single trial lesson in late August costs very little and tells you the hour count, which lets you decide in your own time whether to spend at all, and lets you hold a slot before the evening ones are gone. Families who do that routinely buy fewer hours than families who arrive in October with the same problem, because they are buying teaching rather than rescue. The table sets out what remains in reach from each starting point.

Cost per minute of attention: one to one, a pair, a group of six

Comparing an hourly rate across formats is the error that costs UAE families the most money, because an hour is not a unit of teaching. It is a unit of time that gets divided. A group of six at a quarter of the one-to-one figure looks like a saving until you work out that each student receives under ten minutes of direct attention, and a resit candidate with an individual diagnosis cannot use the other fifty.

The honest way to compare is cost per minute of attention on the thing your child is actually losing marks on. One to one delivers close to sixty minutes of it. A pair on the same paper and tier delivers about thirty, plus a real secondary benefit: hearing another student's answer marked out loud teaches mark-scheme reading faster than almost anything else. A group of four delivers around fifteen, which is enough for a shared gap such as Paper 2 timing and nowhere near enough for four separate topic lists.

Recorded material and self-study packs sit at the far end: no hourly cost at all after purchase, and no attention either. For a disciplined student in late August with twelve weeks, that can be the right purchase for part of the load. For the same student three weeks out with nobody checking whether the work is being done, it is money with no mechanism attached. Decide which end of the spectrum the remaining weeks justify, then price the format against the attention it actually delivers rather than against the headline figure.

Live online against a visiting tutor, priced honestly

Home tutoring is what UAE parents search for, so it deserves a straight answer rather than a redirect. A visiting tutor in this market charges roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour on the figures Bestimate and home-tutor listings publish, usually in 90 or 120-minute sessions to make the journey worth taking, and the travel sits inside the rate whether anybody itemises it or not. Twenty to sixty minutes each way, twice a week, for ten weeks is a considerable amount of paid-for driving.

IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visiting is a service we offer only in India, and every country page on this site says the same. What a UAE family gets instead is one-to-one tuition over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time, with the specialist chosen by board and component rather than by who lives within a drivable radius of your community. For Mathematics that distinction barely matters, because the local pool is deep. For Computer Science in Ajman or Economics in Fujairah it is the difference between a specialist and nobody.

The cost structure differs in ways that show up over an autumn block rather than in a single lesson. Short sessions become viable, so a 45-minute drill on one paper's timing is schedulable instead of uneconomic. A late cancellation does not cost anybody a wasted journey, so rescheduling inside the same week is usually possible, and November illness is normal rather than exceptional. The past paper is annotated on a shared screen and saved, so the marked script is still there to re-read afterwards. The comparison below sets both models out on the lines that matter in the last ten weeks.

The cheap hour that turns out expensive: permits and price signals

An unusually low rate is information. Private tutoring in the Emirates is regulated by permit: the MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. Because the permit costs nothing, a tutor without one has saved no money by skipping it. They have simply not done it.

The official route is MoHRE's own service, Issuance of a New Work Permit for private tutoring, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system, with a stated completion time of two working days. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so no figure is quoted here, and a page that quotes one should make you wonder what else on it was invented. Ask the question directly before the first lesson; a permitted tutor will answer it in one sentence.

One more price signal deserves naming. In Abu Dhabi, professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to pupils enrolled at their own school, and the permit's own code of conduct bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's school. Treat that as press-reported and check the current ADEK policy document before relying on the exact wording. The practical point stands either way: an offer of discounted evening lessons from your child's own classroom teacher is not a bargain, it is a risk the family would be taking on.

What a block of hours cannot buy at any price

Some things are not for sale, and being clear about them is part of pricing the rest honestly. A tutor teaches, explains, reviews and gives feedback on work the student has produced. Assessed work has to be the student's own, and a provider offering to supply finished coursework is offering a malpractice finding, not a service. One site reviewed for this project sells completed Internal Assessments outright. The grade such work attracts is worthless the moment it is investigated, and the candidate carries the consequence.

Materials sit under the same rule. Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes, grade-boundary tables and subject guides belong to Cambridge, Pearson and the other boards. We reference them and link to the boards' own sites so a family can read the live version; we do not reproduce them or hand over a pack to keep. For an IGCSE resit candidate the practical questions about coursework and practical components, including whether a previous mark is carried forward or an alternative-to-practical paper applies, are decisions for the examination centre. Ask the exams officer in writing and get the answer before buying hours against an assumption.

The last thing money cannot buy is a mark. Nobody can tell you what grade will come out of eight weeks, and an offer priced on a promised outcome should be treated with real scepticism. What a counted block can give you is a specific diagnosis, a topic list drawn from the actual component marks, timed practice against the real paper length, and a student who can mark their own work against a scheme by the end. That is the thing being sold, and it is worth saying so plainly rather than selling an outcome nobody controls.

10

Which subject is worth the hours: the five grades the Ministry counts

Before buying hours, check that another grade in that subject changes anything. For British-curriculum students, the UAE Ministry of Education equivalency route asks for five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. The published clarification of July 2026 also states that Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects.

Those two sentences settle a surprising number of autumn decisions. A family repairing a sixth grade when five already clear the bar is buying something the equivalency file will not read. A family whose weak grade is the fifth counting subject is buying the thing that unblocks everything downstream. Some tutoring sites state that UAE candidates must take six IGCSE subjects; the published clarification says five, and the difference is a whole autumn block of somebody's money. For the American track the same clarification sets English proficiency at IELTS academic 5, TOEFL iBT 61 or 450 in SAT reading and writing, with at least 450 in SAT Mathematics.

No IB points threshold appears in that source, so none is published here. Anything claiming one should be checked on moe.gov.ae or with the emirate attestation authority before you act on it. Equivalency and attestation are processes the Ministry and the attestation authority run, not something IB Gram performs, guarantees or speeds up, and tutoring is not required for any of it. What we can do is help you read which subject is load-bearing in your own child's file, and then price the hours for that subject rather than for the one with the worst number on the certificate.

Where we tutor

What the autumn series costs across the seven emirates

Almost every published tutoring rate in the country is a Dubai rate, which is why Dubai figures end up quoted at families in Fujairah. The regulator differs by emirate, the advertised price range differs sharply, and online delivery flattens the difference because nobody is driving. Each note below names the authority that actually governs the school.

Dubai

KHDA oversees the quality of private education in the emirate, across 227 private schools in 2024-25. The deepest local tutor pool in the country and the most competition on rate, which is why Dubai figures are the ones providers publish. Seven new private schools open for 2026-27, four UK curriculum and three IB.

Abu Dhabi and Al Ain

ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools here. Advertised rates sit close to Dubai's with a travel premium on the island and outer communities. ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar school staff from paid private tutoring of pupils enrolled at their own school, which is worth knowing before accepting an evening offer.

Sharjah

The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education and approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Far fewer local tutors advertise a rate, so families here are usually quoted a Dubai figure plus travel, or the flat online rate, which is the cheaper of the two.

Ajman

The federal Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman. Almost no local IGCSE specialist rates are published at all, and a visiting tutor from Dubai prices the drive into the hour. An autumn block here is the clearest case in the country for buying online by component.

Ras Al Khaimah

The Department of Knowledge regulates private education in the emirate and approves fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Ras Al Khaimah is named by none of the competitor pages reviewed for this project, which tells you how much local market pricing there is to compare against.

Fujairah

Private schools fall under the federal Ministry of Education. No meaningful local rate exists for a thin IGCSE subject, so the realistic choice is a national online specialist or no specialist. Scheduling is easier here than in Dubai, because evening slots are less contested.

Umm Al Quwain

Also supervised by the federal Ministry of Education. The smallest private-school market in the country, with the same consequence for price: a visiting tutor for Computer Science or Economics is usually not available at any rate, while an online specialist is available at the standard one.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in the UAE

Dubai British-curriculum schools

UK curriculum accounts for 37% of Dubai private-school pupils, the largest single share, which is why the autumn resit question arrives from these communities first. Students we support sit Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel papers at schools of this kind.

  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Dubai British School Jumeirah Park
  • Jumeirah College
  • Dubai English Speaking College
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Hartland International School

Abu Dhabi and Al Ain British-curriculum schools

ADEK-regulated schools on the British curriculum run the same two boards and the same autumn window. The practical difference for an Abu Dhabi family is the ethics rule on school staff tutoring their own pupils, which narrows the local evening pool considerably.

  • The British School Al Khubairat
  • Brighton College Abu Dhabi
  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • GEMS Cambridge International School Abu Dhabi

Schools are named as the context a UAE IGCSE candidate sits inside. IB Gram has no affiliation with any of them and claims none.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the series, the papers and the date

Tell us the board, the subject, the tier on the entry, the component marks from August if you have them, and the date of the first paper. Those five facts are enough to say whether the problem is revision or teaching, which decides the hour count and therefore the number you are being asked to spend.

  2. 02

A trial lesson that is a diagnosis

One free lesson with the named tutor who would teach the block, no card details taken and no obligation to continue. It is not a sales call. The tutor works through a past-paper question and reports back which topic areas carry recoverable marks and roughly how many hours that implies.

  3. 03

A written plan: hours, slots and total

You receive the hour count, the weekly slot times in Gulf Standard Time, the components the block will cover and the total figure before anything is paid. If the honest answer is that the weeks remaining do not justify the spend, the plan says that instead, and nothing starts.

  4. 04

Weekly notes and a re-check at minus two weeks

A short written note after each session: what was covered, what the student self-marked, what comes next. Two weeks before the first paper the plan is re-checked against the remaining sessions, and the last fortnight is re-pointed at timing and command words rather than content.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Every figure on this page carries its source

The AED bands come from providers' own published pages and Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table, read in October 2026 and attributed where used. Three of the six competitor pages reviewed publish no price at all. A family cannot judge value against a number with no provenance.

The hour count is quoted before the block starts

An hourly rate on its own is not a price. The written plan gives the number of hours, the slots and the total, so the decision you make is about the whole spend rather than about a per-hour figure that could be multiplied by anything once lessons are under way.

Specialists chosen by component, not by postcode

Online delivery makes the tutor pool national instead of drivable. For Mathematics in Dubai that changes little. For Computer Science in Ajman or Economics in Fujairah it is the difference between a specialist who knows the component mark scheme and whoever happens to live nearby.

The honesty line is written down, not implied

A tutor teaches, reviews and gives feedback on the student's own work. We do not supply assessed coursework, and we do not reproduce board syllabus documents, past papers or mark schemes; we link to the boards' own pages so you read the live version instead of a stale copy.

Coverage limits are disclosed, including the fallback

If no UAE-based specialist is free for the component you need in the weeks you have, we say so and name the alternative, including where the tutor would be based and what the rate would be. No competitor page reviewed for this project discloses a coverage limit at all.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in the UAE: your questions answered

What does an eight-week October November IGCSE block actually cost in this market?+

Multiply, do not compare hourly rates. Eight weeks at three hours a week is twenty-four hours. In the qualified-online band that market figures put at AED 150 to 300 an hour, that is a four-figure commitment; in the specialist band of AED 200 to 450 and above it is noticeably more. Bestimate's 2026 monthly estimates for one weekly hour run AED 600 to 1,200 mid-market and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for exam-year specialist support. Ask for the hour count and the total in writing, because sixteen hours at a higher rate frequently beats thirty-six at a lower one when the weeks are short.

Is the rate quoted per hour or per lesson, and does it include tax?+

Ask both questions before the first session, in writing. Some providers quote a 60-minute session, some a 45-minute one, and a visiting tutor often quotes a 90 or 120-minute block because the journey has to be worth taking, which makes the headline figures unreadable against each other. On tax, ask only whether the figure you are being quoted is inclusive. This page does not state the UAE VAT treatment of tuition fees, because that is a question for the Federal Tax Authority's own guidance rather than for a tutoring site, and getting it wrong in either direction costs a family money.

Which extras catch UAE families out in an autumn resit?+

Four of them, in order of how often they surprise people. The private-candidate entry fee, which the examination centre sets and publishes rather than the board. The late-entry charge if the deadline slips. The per-paper charge for an enquiry about results after the series, usually refunded only where a grade changes. And travel on each paper day, which multiplies with component count rather than with subjects. None of these are hidden by anyone; they simply sit with the centre rather than the tutor, so nobody quoting you for lessons mentions them. Ask the exams officer for the full fee list in one message.

Is a group class better value than one to one before a November paper?+

It depends entirely on whether the group shares your child's problem. A group of four at a quarter of the one-to-one figure delivers roughly fifteen minutes of direct attention per student in an hour. If all four need the same thing, such as Paper 2 timing, that is good value. If each has a different topic list, three quarters of the hour is spent on somebody else's gap. A resit candidate working from specific component marks is usually the worst fit for a group and the best fit for a short, counted block of one to one.

Why would one IGCSE subject cost more per hour than another?+

Supply. Mathematics has the deepest specialist pool in the Emirates, so the rate is the most competitive. Economics, Computer Science and Additional Mathematics have far fewer specialists locally, so the same hour prices higher, and in the smaller emirates there may be nobody drivable at all. Component count matters too: a subject with three papers needs technique work on each, so the hour count rises even where the hourly figure does not. This is the clearest argument for online delivery, which turns a local shortage into a national pool and takes the scarcity premium out of the number.

Why is the cheapest hourly rate often the most expensive choice in the end?+

Three reasons. The hour may not contain teaching: budget tutoring in the AED 45 to 150 band typically supervises homework rather than working from component mark schemes, so progress per hour is slower and you buy more hours. The tutor may hold no MoHRE private tuition work permit, which costs nothing to obtain and is therefore no saving to skip. And a cheap generalist on a scarce subject may teach the wrong specification entirely. Price the block, not the hour, and ask what the tutor will have read before the first session.

Our son needs only one subject in the autumn. Is a short block worth paying for?+

Usually yes, and it is the best-value purchase available in this market. A single-subject resitter already has most of the content; the marks were lost on two or three topic areas and on execution. A tutor working from the component marks can name those areas in one lesson and spend twelve to twenty hours on them, under exam timing, rather than re-teaching a syllabus. The qualifying question is not cost but reach: if the grade needed is two bands away with five weeks left, say so before anybody spends, and consider the next series instead.

Will another grade in this subject change anything the Ministry of Education counts?+

Check before you spend. The equivalency route for British-curriculum students asks for five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at no less than E or grade 3, plus one Advanced Level subject at E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level, and the published July 2026 clarification excludes Arabic and Islamic education from the five. So repairing a sixth grade when five already clear the bar changes nothing in that file, while repairing the fifth changes everything. Verify your own case on moe.gov.ae or with the emirate attestation authority, because they run the process and we do not.

What happens to the coursework or practical mark if he re-sits only the written papers?+

That is a question for the examination centre, and the answer differs by board, subject and series. In some cases a previous internally assessed mark is carried forward; in others the candidate sits the alternative-to-practical paper instead. A private candidate at a new centre may face a different arrangement again. Ask the exams officer in writing and get the answer before buying hours, because a block built around practical skills is wasted if the entry does not include a practical component, and a block that ignores one is wasted if it does.

How many hours a week can a Year 11 student realistically absorb in October?+

Two to four, in sessions of 45 to 90 minutes, alongside a normal school week and the mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies periods that do not pause for an exam series. Beyond that the limit is not the timetable but marking: work only counts once the student has attempted it, had it marked and understood the mark scheme. Families who buy six hours a week in a panic usually find three of them go unprepared for. Fewer sessions with completed work between them move more marks than more sessions with none.

Does IB Gram send a tutor to our address in Dubai for the autumn series?+

No. We do not provide tutors at UAE addresses; visiting tuition is something we offer only in India, and every country page on this site says the same. UAE lessons are one to one over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time around school and prayer times. The practical consequence is that your choice of tutor is not limited to people who can drive to your community, which matters most for the thinner subjects, and that no part of the rate you pay is covering somebody's commute across the emirate twice a week.

What should we have in writing before paying for a block of hours?+

Five things. The number of hours and the total figure, not just a rate. The weekly slot times in Gulf Standard Time. The named tutor who will teach, and the boards and components they teach. What happens to a session cancelled at short notice by either side. And a one-line statement of the honesty boundary, so the position on assessed work is on the record rather than assumed. Any provider unwilling to put those five in a message before taking payment has told you something useful about how the rest will go.

If no specialist is free for the paper we need, what happens then?+

We say so, and we name the alternative rather than quietly substituting a generalist. That might be a tutor based outside the UAE teaching the same specification, with the base location and the rate stated up front, or it might be an honest recommendation to aim at the next series instead. Not one of the competitor pages reviewed for this project discloses a coverage limit at all, and several route UAE families to numbers outside the country without saying so. A disclosed limit is cheaper for you than a concealed one.

Should we pay more for a tutor described as having marked IGCSE papers?+

Only if the claim is evidenced, and only for the right job. Rates in the named or examiner-described band reach AED 650 an hour on published figures. What that experience genuinely buys is mark-scheme fluency: a clear sense of what earns a mark and what reads well but scores nothing. It does not buy access to boundaries, unreleased material or marking in progress, and anybody implying otherwise is describing something that does not exist. We do not describe a tutor as an examiner unless their current status can be evidenced to you.

Who pays for a lesson cancelled two hours before it starts?+

Agree this in writing before the block begins, because November is a month of illness and clashing school commitments. Online delivery changes the economics: nobody has lost a journey, so a session moved inside the same week is usually straightforward, and a short make-up slot is easier to find than a two-hour visit. A visiting tutor who has already set out reasonably charges for the trip. Ask how many reschedules a block allows, how much notice counts as short, and whether an unused hour lapses at the series or carries on.

Can one tutor cover two subjects in the same block, and does that save money?+

Sometimes, and it saves scheduling rather than money. A Mathematics and Physics pairing is common and works well because the method overlap is real. Chemistry and Economics in one tutor is a warning sign rather than a bargain, because component-level knowledge is what you are paying for. Where one tutor genuinely covers both, you save a slot, a handover and some of the administration, and the hour count stays the same. Two subjects still need two topic lists, two sets of timed papers and, in an autumn series, two sets of paper days.

Price the block, then decide

An autumn IGCSE series rewards families who separate the diagnosis from the spend. Send the board, the subject, the tier on the entry, the component marks and the date of the first paper. The trial lesson is free, with no card details taken, and the tutor who would teach the block is the one who teaches it. You then get the hour count, the slot times in Gulf Standard Time and the total in writing, including the honest answer if the weeks remaining do not justify the money. Lessons are one to one over live video. Nothing starts until the number in front of you is one you have agreed to.
