IB & IGCSE in the UAE

A Physics investigation is 24 marks, and most of them are won before the data is collected

The internal assessment in IB Physics is a single scientific investigation of the student's own design, reported in no more than 3,000 words, marked by the school against four criteria and then moderated by the International Baccalaureate. It is worth 24 raw marks and a fifth of the final Physics grade at both Higher and Standard Level. That makes it the largest single block of marks your child will ever be able to work on without a clock running, and the only one where a teacher is permitted to give structured feedback before submission.

Parents in the UAE usually come looking for IB Physics IA help at one of two moments. The first is when a research question has been approved and the student cannot see how to turn it into a measurable experiment. The second is three weeks before the school's internal deadline, when a draft has come back with a low mark on one criterion and nobody at home can read the criterion wording well enough to know what is missing. The two problems need completely different hours, and they cost different amounts.

What makes this assessment unusual is how front-loaded it is. Criterion A rewards the design decisions: a research question narrow enough to answer, an independent variable with a stated range and units, a dependent variable with a stated measuring instrument and resolution, and controlled variables that are actually controlled rather than merely listed. A student who gets that stage right has already made Criterion B arithmetic possible and Criterion D evaluation honest. A student who gets it wrong will spend four weekends processing data that cannot answer the question, and no amount of later polish recovers those marks.

The UAE adds its own constraints. Most IB World Schools here run laboratories on a timetable, so after-school bench access is limited and holiday access is often nil. Families travel over Eid and the summer break, which is exactly when pilot data should be collected. School-run traffic in Dubai and Abu Dhabi pushes a realistic weekday session past five in the afternoon. And the pool of teachers who can genuinely supervise an uncertainty propagation at Higher Level is small in any one neighbourhood, which is why this is sold as online IB Physics tutoring in the UAE rather than as a visiting service.

This page is built around the money question, because it is the one nobody in this search answers properly. You will find the published AED bands for the UAE market with the survey date attached, a breakdown of the six things that move a quote for the same investigation, a realistic view of how many hours a Physics write-up actually needs at each stage, and the point at which paying more stops buying anything. You will also find the honesty boundary stated plainly, because a provider that will not state it is selling you a malpractice risk rather than tutoring.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The investigation sits in the Diploma Programme, but the skills it marks are built earlier. Families who come to us with an investigation problem in DP2 very often have a Middle Years Programme gap underneath it, so it is worth knowing where each programme asks for what.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Physics in the Diploma Programme is examined by three written papers plus the scientific investigation. The investigation is the student's own design, reported in up to 3,000 words and marked against Criteria A to D. It is the only component where a teacher may legitimately give feedback on a draft before it is handed in, which is why the hours spent on it have a different value from exam-paper hours.

UAE Diploma cohorts are small, so a school may run Physics Higher Level in a single class of eight or nine students with one teacher supervising every investigation in the year group. That teacher is doing their job properly and is still stretched. One-to-one online support is how a family adds reading time on a draft without asking the school for something it cannot timetable.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Middle Years Programme sciences are marked on four criteria of their own, including inquiring and designing, and processing and evaluating. A student who has practised stating a hypothesis with a scientific reason, tabulating raw data with units and resolution, and drawing a graph with a line of best fit arrives in DP1 able to attempt a real research question. A student who has not will struggle with Criterion A.

Many UAE families move into the Diploma from a British or Indian Year 11 rather than from the Middle Years Programme, so the design and evaluation habits were never taught. That transition gap is the single most common reason a UAE student's first investigation draft scores badly on Criterion A, and it is fixable in two or three sessions if it is caught in DP1 rather than DP2.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

Career-related Programme students take two or more Diploma Programme courses alongside the career-related study. Where one of those is Physics, the scientific investigation is identical in form, mark allocation and word ceiling to the one a full Diploma candidate submits. The reflective project is separate and is assessed on its own criteria, so a Career-related student can be carrying two long pieces of written work at once.

Only a handful of UAE schools run the Career-related Programme, and a Physics course inside it may be taught in a mixed class with full Diploma candidates. The supervision load on the teacher is the same, the internal deadline is usually the same, and the student has a reflective project competing for the same weekends. Sequencing matters more here than in any other route.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Every IB science and maths course carries an internal assessment, and families rarely need help with only one of them. The grid below sets out what each internal assessment actually asks for, so you can see whether one specialist covers the problem or whether two subjects genuinely need two people.

Physics

HL and SL

The scientific investigation: one self-designed experiment, up to 3,000 words, 24 marks across Criteria A to D, moderated by the IB. The marks that separate a four from a six are almost always uncertainty propagation in Criterion B and a specific, costed improvement in Criterion D rather than extra prose.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Same four criteria, same 24 marks, same word ceiling, but the practical constraints differ. Titration and calorimetry work needs reagents and a fume cupboard, so a UAE student without holiday laboratory access often pivots to a database or simulation investigation, which changes what Criterion A has to justify.

Biology

HL and SL

The investigation is marked on the same letters, but statistical treatment carries more weight in practice: standard deviation, error bars and a named significance test. Students who can run a physics gradient analysis often freeze on choosing between a t-test and a chi-squared test, and that is a one-session fix.

Sports, Exercise and Health Science

HL and SL

Human-participant work brings an ethical approval step that physics rarely needs, and UAE schools apply it strictly. The design stage therefore takes longer, consent and anonymity have to be documented, and the available measuring instruments are usually heart-rate monitors and timing gates rather than laboratory apparatus.

Computer Science

HL and SL

The internal assessment is a developed computational solution with documentation rather than an experiment, assessed on planning, design, development, functionality and evaluation. Students who want measurable data often choose an algorithm timing study, which overlaps neatly with the physics habit of plotting a controlled variable against a measured one.

Design Technology

HL and SL

The design project runs across both years and is assessed on analysis, conceptual design, development and testing. Physics students who take it alongside find the testing stage familiar, but the documentation load is far heavier and the deadlines rarely line up with the Physics investigation deadline.

Environmental Systems and Societies

HL and SL

The individual investigation follows the same four-criterion structure as the sciences. UAE students have genuinely local material available here: desalination outputs, district cooling loads, urban heat island measurements between a shaded and an unshaded street, and groundwater salinity data published by federal authorities.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The mathematical internal assessment is a 12 to 20 page piece of personal mathematics, marked on presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and use of mathematics. Physics students often reuse their own experimental data here, which is permitted, but the same data cannot be submitted as two assessments.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Same criteria as Analysis and Approaches, different mathematical toolkit, with modelling and statistics carrying more of the load. A regression analysis on real UAE data, correctly reported with residuals, scores better here than a decorative piece of pure mathematics copied from a textbook example.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Investigation support is bought in three shapes, and the shape matters more than the hourly rate. A family that books eight weekly hours when they needed three concentrated ones has spent more and learned less. Each option below is delivered one-to-one over live video.

Weekly one-to-one across the investigation cycle

A fixed slot held from research-question approval through to the final read of the report, typically one hour a week for eight to twelve weeks. This is the cheapest route per mark gained, because design errors get caught at Criterion A stage rather than after four weekends of data collection. It also means the student, not the tutor, holds the timeline.

  • One hour a week, same slot, held through the write-up weeks
  • Session one tests whether the research question can actually be measured
  • Data brought to each session; feedback given against criterion wording
  • Suits a DP1 student starting the investigation with a term in hand

A fixed block before an internal deadline

Three to five hours used inside a fortnight, usually when a draft has come back marked and one criterion is costing three or four marks. The specialist reads the draft before the first session, so the hour is spent on the diagnosis rather than on reading. It is the most common purchase on this page and the one most often bought a week later than it should be.

  • Draft and the school's criterion feedback sent in advance
  • First session opens with the criterion that is losing the most marks
  • Student rewrites between sessions; tutor comments, never edits
  • Suits a DP2 student with a dated internal deadline

Investigation work folded into exam-year revision

Weekly Physics sessions that alternate between paper technique and investigation progress, so the write-up does not stop mock preparation and mock preparation does not stall the write-up. This is the right shape for a DP2 student whose internal deadline and mock window sit within a month of each other, which in most UAE schools they do.

  • Alternating focus: one week papers, one week the investigation
  • Past-paper practice on the topics the investigation actually uses
  • Deadlines mapped once at the start and reviewed monthly
  • Can be paused during the school's own study-leave period

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in the UAE

01

What the IB Physics scientific investigation actually asks your child to produce

  • One self-designed experiment, 3,000 words maximum of prose
  • 24 marks across four criteria, six marks each
  • 20 per cent of the final grade at both levels
  • Tables, graphs and references sit outside the word ceiling
  • School-marked, internally standardised, then IB-moderated

One experiment, designed by the student, reported in up to 3,000 words, marked out of 24 by the school and then moderated by the International Baccalaureate. It is worth 20 per cent of the Physics grade at Higher Level and at Standard Level, which means a Standard Level student carries exactly the same investigation workload as a Higher Level one for exactly the same proportional reward.

The report is not a laboratory write-up in the school sense. There is no prescribed method to follow and no marks for neatness. What is assessed is the quality of the student's own decisions: whether the research question is narrow enough to answer with the apparatus available, whether the measurement chosen can detect the effect being looked for, whether the raw data is recorded with its uncertainty, whether the processing is mathematically correct, whether the conclusion is tested against accepted physics, and whether the evaluation identifies specific weaknesses and costs their effect on the result.

Word count is a real constraint and students routinely misjudge it. Raw data tables, processed data tables, graphs, labels, references and a bibliography sit outside the 3,000 words. Prose does not. A student who writes two pages of textbook theory before stating the research question has spent a tenth of the ceiling on marks that do not exist. The investigations that score well tend to read as short, dense, and almost brusque.

The last thing to understand is the moderation step. The school marks the investigation, applies its own internal standardisation, and submits the mark with a sample to the IB. The IB moderator can adjust a school's marks up or down. This is why a teacher's generous read of a draft is not the final word, and why a specialist who has marked against the published criteria is reading for what survives moderation rather than for what pleases a supervisor.

02

The four criteria, letter by letter, and what each six marks is paying for

No competitor page in this search names a single IB Physics IA criterion. That is strange, because the criteria are the whole assessment: a student who can read the wording of Criterion B and check their own report against it does not need a tutor to tell them the mark is low. Most students have never been shown the wording at all, and work instead from a school rubric summary that compresses six marks into one sentence.

Each criterion is marked in bands, and the gap between bands is usually one specific omission rather than a general weakness. Criterion A loses marks when the methodology is described but never justified. Criterion B loses them when processing is shown but uncertainty is not propagated through it. Criterion C loses them when a result is stated but never compared with an accepted value or published source. Criterion D loses them when weaknesses are listed generically rather than costed against the result.

That pattern is why a diagnostic read of a draft is worth more than a general tuition hour. A specialist reading against criterion wording can usually tell a family within twenty minutes which two of the four criteria are carrying the lost marks, and whether the fix is a rewrite, a recalculation, or another afternoon of data collection. The recalculation is cheap. The extra data collection is the one that needs a laboratory slot and therefore a decision this week rather than next.

Criterion wording is published in the subject guide your child's school holds. We do not reproduce or distribute IB subject guides, past papers, mark schemes or grade boundary tables, because they are the IB's copyright. Your child's teacher or IB coordinator can show the current wording, and the subject page on ibo.org is the authoritative place to check which guide your cohort is assessed under.

IB PHYSICS SCIENTIFIC INVESTIGATION - THE FOUR CRITERIA AND WHAT EACH REWARDS
CriterionWhat the marks are forMarksWhat a weak draft looks like here
A - Research designA research question narrow enough to answer; a justified methodology; independent, dependent and controlled variables stated with units, ranges and instrument resolution6The question is stated and the method is described, but no sentence explains why that method rather than another, and controlled variables are listed without saying how they were held
B - Data analysisRaw data recorded with its uncertainty, correct processing shown, graphs with error bars, and a gradient treated with its own uncertainty rather than read off by eye6Processing is arithmetically fine but uncertainty stops at the raw table and never travels into the processed values or the gradient
C - ConclusionA conclusion that answers the research question, interpreted against accepted physics and compared with a published value or an established relationship6The trend is described in words, the relationship is never tested against theory, and no accepted value appears anywhere in the section
D - EvaluationSpecific strengths and weaknesses of the method, the direction and size of each weakness's effect on the result, and improvements that are realistic with named apparatus6A list of generic limitations, human error among them, with no statement of which way each one pushed the result or by roughly how much
03

Where Physics investigation marks go missing, and what each fix actually takes

The failures are repetitive. Across UAE drafts the same half-dozen symptoms account for most of the lost marks, and each has a different cost to repair. Knowing which one you are looking at is the difference between booking three hours and booking ten, which is the real reason this page leads with diagnosis rather than with a rate card.

The most expensive symptom is a research question that cannot be measured with the apparatus the student can reach. A question about the dependence of a pendulum period on amplitude at small angles, for instance, asks a student to detect a change smaller than their timing uncertainty. No amount of careful work rescues it, and the fix is a new question and new data. Caught in week one that costs an hour. Caught after the data is collected it costs a term.

The cheapest symptom is a missing comparison in Criterion C. A student who measured the acceleration due to gravity and reported 9.6 metres per second squared without ever naming the accepted value has given away marks that a single paragraph recovers. Between those extremes sit the uncertainty problems, which are arithmetic rather than experimental, and the evaluation problems, which need the student to think harder about their own method rather than to collect anything new.

This table is the diagnosis sheet a specialist works from on a first read. It is deliberately specific, because a generic statement that a draft needs more detail is the least useful sentence anybody says about an investigation.

What IB Physics IA help costs in the UAE, and what the number is made of

Three of the six best-ranking pages for this kind of search publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars, which is not the currency a UAE family transacts in. So here are the AED bands, surveyed from published UAE provider rate cards in October 2026, together with a cost table published for the Dubai market in 2026 by the estimating site Bestimate. These are market rates, not IB Gram prices. Our own model starts with a free trial lesson and a consultation, and the quote follows the match.

Read the table as a map of what each band buys on a scientific investigation specifically, which is not the same as what it buys on general Physics tuition. The low band is adequate for reading the criteria together and tidying report structure. It is not adequate for propagating an uncertainty through a logarithmic plot, and a family who buys it for that will pay twice. The specialist band is where uncertainty treatment, gradient analysis and Criterion C comparison against published values sit reliably.

The honest limit of the table is the top row. Above roughly AED 450 an hour, the surveyed rates buy scarcity and reputation rather than any syllabus capability the band below lacks. The highest single advertised UAE rate found in the October 2026 survey was AED 650 an hour. There is no evidence in the published market that an investigation marked against four criteria needs that, and we do not recommend paying it for investigation work.

One more figure matters more than the hourly rate: how many hours. A design-stage conversation is one to two hours. A full weekly cycle across a term is eight to twelve. A rescue block on a marked draft is three to five. Multiply the band by the realistic hour count before comparing two quotes, because a provider at AED 200 selling a twenty-hour package is dearer than a provider at AED 350 selling four.

Six things that move the quote for the same investigation

  • Level and scarcity: Higher Level specialists set the top of the band
  • Days to the internal deadline: urgency is the single biggest multiplier
  • Slot timing: Saturday mornings cost most, weekday evenings least
  • Diagnostic read versus term-long supervision: different price, different total
  • Online versus a visiting tutor: AED 30-100 an hour of that gap is travel
  • Two subjects with one specialist usually beats two specialists on price

Two UAE families can ask for support on the same pendulum investigation and be quoted rates that differ by AED 300 an hour. The difference is almost never the subject. It is a combination of six factors, and four of them are inside your control if you start early enough.

The first is level and scarcity. A Higher Level Physics specialist who can supervise an uncertainty propagation is scarcer in the UAE than a Standard Level science tutor, and scarcity sets the rate. The second is proximity to the internal deadline. A draft arriving ten days before submission needs the specialist to read it before the session and to hold two slots that week, and the market charges for that urgency. The third is session timing: a Saturday mid-morning slot is the most contested hour in the UAE tutoring week, and weekday evenings after 19:00 are the least.

The fourth is whether you are buying feedback or supervision. A single diagnostic read of a marked draft is priced differently from a term-long weekly commitment, and per hour the diagnostic read is dearer while the total is far lower. The fifth is delivery format. The in-home bands in the rate table above sit AED 30 to 100 an hour above the online bands for the same tier, and that gap is travel time rather than teaching. The sixth is subject combination: a family that needs Physics and Maths Analysis and Approaches investigation support frequently pays less per hour by using one specialist who covers both than by matching two.

What does not move a defensible quote is a promise about the mark. Any provider pricing on an outcome rather than on hours and expertise is selling something no teacher can deliver, because the school marks the investigation and the IB moderates it. Nobody outside that chain controls the number.

06

The investigation counted backwards from your school's internal deadline

Nobody in this search publishes a plan. Competitor pages talk about support in the abstract and leave the parent to guess when to start. The table below counts backwards from the school's internal submission date, which is the only date that actually governs a student's work, and it uses relative timing rather than calendar dates for a deliberate reason.

That reason is accuracy. IB session and results dates are set by the International Baccalaureate and are not restated here, because we will not publish an IB date we have not read on an official source. Your child's IB coordinator holds the school's internal deadline and the IB upload schedule, and the subject and assessment pages on ibo.org are where to confirm anything about the session itself. Any page that quotes you a confident IB results date without citing where it came from is guessing on your behalf.

The structure of the plan holds regardless of which session your child sits. Design work belongs in the term before data collection. Data collection belongs where laboratory access exists, which in most UAE schools means term time rather than holidays. Processing belongs immediately after collection, while the student still remembers how the apparatus behaved. Writing belongs last and takes less time than families expect, because a well-designed investigation almost writes itself from its own tables.

The common UAE failure is to put data collection in the summer or Eid break on the assumption that free time equals progress. Laboratories are shut, families travel, and the student returns in the new term with nothing collected and a shorter runway than before. Collect in term time, write in the break.

Apparatus a UAE student can actually reach, and what makes a question measurable

The single most useful hour of IB Physics IA help in the UAE is usually spent on this question: with the equipment your child can get at, what change is large enough to measure? A research question is only as good as the smallest difference the apparatus can resolve, and students pick questions from interest rather than from resolution.

UAE conditions narrow the field in specific ways. School laboratories run on a timetable and after-hours bench access is rare, so a student who needs forty measurements has to plan around lesson slots. Holiday access is usually nil. Local hardware shops stock ramps, springs, magnets and timber readily, but calibrated laboratory instruments are not domestic purchases. What every student does have is a phone with an accelerometer, a magnetometer, a microphone and a camera that records at a known frame rate, and free video-tracking software that turns that camera into a position-time instrument.

That matters for Criterion A, because the criterion rewards a justified choice of instrument with its resolution stated, and a phone camera at 240 frames per second has a defensible temporal resolution that a hand-held stopwatch does not. It matters for Criterion B, because a tracked video gives dozens of position points rather than five stopwatch times, which is what makes a random uncertainty supportable. And it matters for Criterion D, because the student can name a real improvement, a higher frame rate or a longer lever arm, rather than wishing for better equipment.

Database and simulation investigations are legitimate and are assessed on the same four criteria, but Criterion A then has to justify the data source rather than the apparatus: who published it, over what period, with what stated uncertainty. UAE students have genuinely local options here, from published meteorological records to district cooling and desalination data, and a local data set is harder to fault than a generic one pulled from a tutorial website.

08

Uncertainties, gradients and the arithmetic that separates a four from a six

  • Absolute uncertainty from instrument resolution and from the spread of repeats
  • Fractional uncertainties add on multiply and divide; absolute ones add on plus and minus
  • Error bars from processed uncertainties, not from the raw table
  • Maximum and minimum gradient lines give a defensible gradient uncertainty
  • Linearise before plotting, so the gradient means something physical
  • Quote the final result as a value with a range and a unit

If a UAE family buys only three hours of investigation support, this is where to spend them. Uncertainty treatment is the most reliably under-taught part of the IB Physics investigation, it carries Criterion B outright, it feeds the quantitative conclusion Criterion C wants, and it is pure arithmetic on data the student already has. No laboratory slot is needed to fix it.

The sequence is mechanical once it is learned. Every raw measurement carries an absolute uncertainty, taken from instrument resolution, from the spread of repeats, or from both combined. Those absolute uncertainties convert to fractional ones. Fractional uncertainties add when quantities multiply or divide, and multiply by the power when a quantity is raised to one. Absolute uncertainties add when quantities add or subtract. That single set of rules propagates uncertainty from the raw table all the way to the processed column, and it is the step most drafts skip entirely.

Graphs are where the marks become visible. Error bars drawn from the processed uncertainties, a line of best fit, then a maximum gradient line and a minimum gradient line drawn through the extremes of the error bars. Half the difference between those two gradients is the gradient uncertainty, and that number is what lets a student write a result as a value with a range rather than as a bare figure. Where theory predicts a straight line through the origin, whether the error bars include the origin is itself a finding worth a sentence in Criterion C.

Linearisation is the other skill worth an hour. Many physics relationships are not linear in the measured variables, and a student who plots period against length sees a curve and stops. Plotting the square of the period against length turns the same data into a straight line whose gradient has a physical meaning that can be compared with an accepted value. That one move frequently converts a described trend into a tested relationship, which is exactly the distance between Criterion C bands.

Academic honesty: the line between coaching an investigation and producing one

This has to be said plainly, because one page ranking in this search sells finished internal assessments for a four-figure sum in AED. Buying one is academic malpractice under IB rules. The consequence lands on the student, not on the seller: a malpractice finding can cost the subject grade or the whole Diploma, and it follows the candidate rather than the website.

What a tutor may legitimately do is bounded and still substantial. A tutor may teach the physics. A tutor may explain the criterion wording. A tutor may ask questions about a research question until the student discovers it cannot be measured. A tutor may demonstrate uncertainty propagation on a different data set, teach linearisation on a textbook example, show how maximum and minimum gradient lines are drawn, and give written feedback that names which criterion a section is weak against and why. A tutor may read a draft and say that the evaluation does not cost its weaknesses.

What a tutor may not do is author or correct the work. No tutor on this platform will supply a research question for a student to adopt, type a section of the report, rewrite a paragraph into better prose, insert a calculation into the student's file, or hand over a model investigation to be adapted. The work has to be the student's own in substance and in wording, and feedback is given as comments and questions rather than as edits. If a student brings a draft that is not their own, the session stops and the family is told why.

The practical test we use is simple and you can apply it yourself: after the session, could the student explain every decision in their report to an examiner who asked why? If the answer is no for any part, that part is not theirs, whatever the file history says. Schools apply broadly the same test, and so do IB moderators looking at a mark that does not match a candidate's examination performance.

Who regulates your child's school, who permits the tutor, and what you can ask to see

Five authorities regulate UAE private schools, and most pages in this search name none of them. Dubai sits with the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain sit with the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools. Sharjah has the Sharjah Private Education Authority and Ras Al Khaimah the Department of Knowledge, both of which approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah fall to the federal Ministry of Education.

Separately from the school, the tutor needs a permit. Private tuition in the UAE is regulated through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, which introduced private tuition work permits. The permit is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. Anyone offering private tutoring without a permit is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so no figure is quoted here.

There is one condition UAE parents consistently do not know about. The permit carries a code of conduct that bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school, and ADEK professional-ethics rules for Abu Dhabi private and charter school staff prohibit paid private tutoring of pupils enrolled at their own school. Paying your child's own Physics teacher for investigation feedback is therefore the one arrangement a family should not ask for, however convenient it looks.

IB Gram holds no regulator accreditation and claims none. We are not approved, licensed or endorsed by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, the International Baccalaureate, Cambridge or Pearson, and any provider telling you otherwise should be asked to show the permit or centre number. What we do is match a subject specialist and deliver the lesson over live video. The official route for the private tutor permit is the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation service page, its smart app and its e-services system.

Where the Physics grade travels: UAE university entry and Ministry of Education equivalency

A fifth of a Physics grade sounds abstract until you follow where the grade goes. For a UAE-resident student applying to a local or regional university, the Diploma result usually has to pass through a Ministry of Education equivalency step before it is recognised, and that is a process no page in this search explains. It is worth understanding before the investigation is treated as optional.

The published requirements are clearest on the British track. A student must show one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level with the same grade, and must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects. One ranking competitor states that UAE candidates must take six IGCSE subjects; the published rule is five.

On the American track, English proficiency requires a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying. For the International Baccalaureate, no points threshold is published here, because we have not read one on an official Ministry of Education source. Verify the IB requirement on moe.gov.ae or with the attestation authority in your emirate, and treat any page that quotes a confident IB figure without a citation with caution.

IB Gram does not perform, submit or guarantee equivalency or attestation, and tutoring is not a requirement for any part of it. The reason this sits on a Physics investigation page is narrower: Physics is a prerequisite subject for engineering and most physical-science degrees, the investigation is a fifth of that grade, and a grade that drops a band because of a weak internal assessment can close a prerequisite the student needed.

Ramadan, Eid and the weeks when investigation writing actually happens

The UAE academic calendar interacts with the investigation in ways a UK or Indian tutoring page never has to consider, and getting this wrong costs families a month of runway. Three features matter: shortened school days during Ramadan, the Eid breaks, and the long summer that sits between DP1 and DP2 for most UAE schools.

During Ramadan, school days are shortened across UAE schools and afternoons change shape entirely. Fasting students are not at their sharpest at four in the afternoon, and the practical answer is to move sessions to a post-Iftar slot, usually from around 20:30. Investigation work survives this shift better than examination practice does, because reading a criterion and recalculating an uncertainty is a shorter, more contained task than sitting a full past paper. Families who plan for it keep their momentum; families who simply cancel for a month lose four weekly sessions at the worst possible point in the DP2 year.

The Eid breaks and the summer are where the planning error lives. Parents reasonably assume free time means progress, and schedule data collection into the holidays. School laboratories are shut, technicians are on leave, and families travel. The result is a student returning in September with an approved research question, no data, and a shorter runway than they had in June. The rule that works is simple: collect data in term time when the bench exists, and use the break for processing, drafting and reading, none of which needs apparatus.

One more timing detail specific to this market. Saturday mid-morning is the most contested hour in the UAE tutoring week, and during the investigation write-up weeks it books out first. Families who need a specialist for a rescue block in the fortnight before an internal deadline do better asking for a weekday evening after 19:00, which is both easier to get and, across the surveyed rate cards, at the softer end of the price band.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across the UAE

Which emirate you live in changes who regulates your child's school, how much laboratory access is realistic outside lesson time, and what a weekday session can start. It does not change the price of IB Physics IA help, because the lesson happens over video and the specialist is matched on subject rather than on postcode.

Dubai

KHDA figures for 2024-25 record 387,441 pupils across 227 private schools offering 17 curricula, with the International Baccalaureate accounting for 7 per cent of enrolment. That is the largest Diploma cohort in the country and the deepest pool of Physics teachers, but it is also where school-run traffic pushes a realistic weekday session past 17:00.

Abu Dhabi

Regulated by the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. ADEK professional-ethics rules bar school staff from paid private tutoring of pupils enrolled at their own school, so an Abu Dhabi family looking for investigation feedback cannot simply pay their child's own Physics teacher.

Sharjah

The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education here and approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Diploma provision is thinner than in Dubai, so a Sharjah student wanting Higher Level Physics supervision is usually choosing between a long commute and a video call.

Al Ain

Also under the Department of Education and Knowledge. School sites are spread across a wide, low-density city, which makes a visiting tutor expensive in travel time before any teaching happens. Laboratory access outside timetabled lessons is the binding constraint on an experimental investigation here more often than tutor availability is.

Ajman

Private schools fall under the federal Ministry of Education rather than an emirate-level authority. Diploma Physics at Higher Level runs in very few Ajman schools, so the students we support here are frequently the only candidate in their year group taking it, with one supervising teacher and no peer group to compare a draft against.

Ras Al Khaimah

Regulated by the Department of Knowledge, which, like Sharjah's authority, approves curricula, fees and assessment methods. RAK families routinely tell us that the nearest subject specialist is a ninety-minute drive each way. A video session removes the drive and makes a weekday evening slot viable during the investigation write-up weeks.

Fujairah

Under the federal Ministry of Education, which supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. The east-coast Diploma cohort is small enough that a single Physics teacher may cover both years. Online supervision is not a compromise here, it is the only way to add a second pair of eyes to a draft.

Umm Al Quwain

Also federally supervised. Families here often enrol in Sharjah or RAK schools and commute, which means an after-school session competes with a return journey rather than with homework. A 19:30 start, with the report open on a shared screen, is usually the first slot that actually works.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in the UAE

Dubai

The deepest Diploma Physics provision in the country, and the cluster where Higher Level classes are large enough that a teacher is supervising fifteen or more investigations at once. Students we support in these schools most often arrive with an approved research question and a Criterion B problem.

  • GEMS World Academy Dubai
  • Deira International School

  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai

Abu Dhabi and Al Ain

Smaller Diploma cohorts than Dubai and a regulator with explicit professional-ethics rules on staff tutoring their own pupils. Students we support here frequently need help sequencing the Physics investigation against the Extended Essay, because both internal deadlines tend to land in the same term.

  • Raha International School
  • GEMS World Academy Abu Dhabi
  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • American Community School of Abu Dhabi

Sharjah, Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah

Diploma provision across the northern emirates is concentrated in a handful of schools, so Higher Level Physics candidates are often a group of three or four in a year. Travel distances make a visiting specialist impractical, and families here were the first to ask us for evening video slots.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the subject, the level and the date

Start with three facts: Physics at Higher or Standard Level, where the investigation currently stands, and your school's internal deadline. That is enough to tell you whether you are buying a design conversation, a weekly cycle or a rescue block, and roughly how many hours each needs. If a specialist is not free for the slot you want, we say so rather than offering a substitute.

  2. 02

One free trial lesson with the specialist

The trial is a single lesson with the person who would teach your child, at no cost and with no card details collected. It is a working session, not a sales call: the specialist looks at the research question or the marked draft and says which criterion is carrying the lost marks. If the match is wrong, you stop there and owe nothing.

  3. 03

Session one tests whether the question can be measured

Before anything else, the specialist and the student check that the effect being investigated is larger than the uncertainty of the chosen instrument. This is the cheapest hour in the whole process and the one that prevents the most expensive failure. If the question cannot survive that test, a new one is built in the same session rather than discovered after four weekends at the bench.

  4. 04

The weekly cycle: data, processing, draft, feedback

Each session the student brings what they have produced since the last one. The specialist reads it against criterion wording and responds with comments and questions, never with edits. The student does the rewriting between sessions. Over eight to twelve weeks that rhythm produces a report the student can defend line by line, which is the only kind that survives moderation.

  5. 05

    Handover to paper work

Once the investigation is with the school, the same slot usually turns into examination preparation on the topics the investigation touched, because those are already fresh. Nothing has to be rebooked and nothing has to be rematched. Families who keep the slot through the mock window tend to use fewer total hours than those who stop and restart.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Rates on the page, with their source and date

Every AED band on this page carries where it came from and when it was surveyed, because three of the strongest pages in this search publish no price at all. You can compare any quote you receive against the October 2026 market bands above before you commit to a single hour.

Diagnosis before hours

The first thing a specialist does with a draft is name which of the four criteria is losing the marks. That determines whether you need three hours or twelve, and it is the difference between a recalculation your child can finish this week and another round of data collection that needs a laboratory slot.

A stated honesty boundary

Our tutors teach, explain criteria and give written feedback on the student's own work. They do not supply research questions, type sections, rewrite prose or hand over model investigations. The boundary is published here because a provider who will not state it is selling a malpractice risk that lands on the student.

Subject match rather than postcode match

A Higher Level Physics specialist who can supervise uncertainty propagation is scarce in any one UAE neighbourhood and available nationally. Delivering over live video means a family in Fujairah or Umm Al Quwain gets the same specialist a family in Emirates Hills does, with no travel cost loaded into the rate.

Honest about coverage

If no specialist is free for your subject, level and slot, you are told that in the first conversation. We do not substitute a generalist for a Higher Level Physics specialist and let you find out in week three, which is the failure mode families describe most often when they arrive from another provider.

Planned around the UAE calendar

Sessions are scheduled in Gulf Standard Time, shift to post-Iftar slots during Ramadan, and assume laboratory access exists in term time rather than in the holidays. That one assumption, applied early, is what keeps a DP2 investigation off the critical path in the fortnight before an internal deadline.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in the UAE: your questions answered

What does one-to-one help with an IB Physics investigation cost in the UAE?+

Surveyed UAE provider rate cards in October 2026 put online one-to-one Physics support in three broad bands: roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour for a generalist or university-student tutor, AED 150 to 300 for a qualified science teacher, and AED 200 to 450 for an IB Physics Higher Level specialist. The highest single advertised rate found was AED 650. In-home bands sit AED 30 to 100 an hour above the online equivalent, which is travel rather than teaching. Those are market figures, not IB Gram prices. Our own route starts with one free trial lesson and a consultation, and the quote follows the match.

How many hours of investigation support does a Physics student usually need?+

It depends entirely on when you start. A design-stage conversation that tests whether the research question can be measured takes one to two hours and prevents the most expensive failure available. A full weekly cycle from question approval to final read runs eight to twelve hours across a term. A rescue block on a draft that has already been marked is typically three to five hours inside a fortnight. Multiply the hourly band by the realistic hour count before comparing quotes, because a lower rate attached to a twenty-hour package costs more than a higher rate attached to four.

What are the four assessment criteria for the IB Physics scientific investigation?+

Criterion A covers research design: a focused question, a justified methodology, and variables stated with ranges, units and instrument resolution. Criterion B covers data analysis: raw data with uncertainties, correct processing, graphs with error bars, and a gradient treated with its own uncertainty. Criterion C covers the conclusion: an answer to the question, interpreted against accepted physics and compared with a published value. Criterion D covers evaluation: specific strengths and weaknesses, the effect of each on the result, and realistic improvements. Six marks each, 24 in total, worth 20 per cent of the Physics grade. The exact wording sits in the subject guide your child's school holds.

How long is a Physics IA allowed to be, and what counts towards the word count?+

The report has a ceiling of 3,000 words of prose. Raw data tables, processed data tables, graphs, axis labels, calculations, references and the bibliography sit outside that count. Prose does not. The most common way UAE students waste the ceiling is an opening two pages of textbook theory before the research question appears, which spends a tenth of the allowance on marks that do not exist. Strong reports read short and dense. If your child is over the limit, the first cut is almost always background theory rather than evaluation, because the evaluation is where Criterion D marks live.

What makes a Physics IA research question good enough to be worth investigating?+

One test matters more than any other: is the change being measured larger than the uncertainty of the instrument measuring it? A question about how a pendulum's period depends on amplitude at small angles asks a student to detect a difference smaller than their timing error, and no amount of careful work rescues it. A good question also names its independent variable with a range, its dependent variable with a measuring instrument and that instrument's resolution, and the variables being controlled with a method for controlling them. Narrow beats interesting. A narrow question answered properly scores above a broad one answered vaguely.

Can my child run a Physics investigation experiment without laboratory access over the holidays?+

Often yes, but it changes the design. UAE school laboratories run on a timetable and are generally shut over Eid and the summer, so a student who needs bench apparatus should collect in term time. What is available year round is a phone: an accelerometer, a magnetometer, a microphone and a camera recording at a known frame rate, plus free video-tracking software that turns the camera into a position-time instrument. A tracked video gives dozens of data points with a defensible temporal uncertainty of half a frame interval, which supports a gradient uncertainty far better than five stopwatch readings do.

Is a database or simulation investigation marked as generously as an experimental one?+

It is marked against exactly the same four criteria and the same 24 marks. What changes is what Criterion A has to justify. Instead of apparatus and resolution, the student justifies the data source: who published it, over what period, with what stated uncertainty, and why that source suits the question. A locally relevant data set, such as published UAE meteorological records or district cooling figures, is harder to fault than a generic set pulled from a tutorial site. Criterion D then evaluates the limitations of the model or the data set rather than of a bench setup, and the same costing discipline applies.

How should uncertainties be handled in a Physics investigation report?+

Every raw measurement carries an absolute uncertainty, from instrument resolution, from the spread of repeats, or both. Those convert to fractional uncertainties. Fractional uncertainties add when quantities multiply or divide and multiply by the power when a quantity is raised to one; absolute uncertainties add when quantities add or subtract. That propagates uncertainty from the raw table into the processed column, where error bars come from. Then draw maximum and minimum gradient lines through the extremes of the error bars, and take half their difference as the gradient uncertainty. This is the step most drafts skip entirely, and it is pure arithmetic on data the student already holds.

Why does a gradient need maximum and minimum lines rather than a single line of best fit?+

Because a single line gives a number with no range, and Criterion C rewards a quantified conclusion rather than a described trend. Drawing a steepest and a shallowest line that still pass through the extremes of the error bars gives two gradients, and half the difference between them is a defensible gradient uncertainty. The student can then write the result as a value with a range and a unit, and compare that range against an accepted value. A useful extra sentence: where theory predicts a line through the origin, whether the error bars include the origin is itself a finding worth stating.

When should a UAE Diploma student start the Physics investigation?+

Working backwards from the school's internal deadline, a research question shortlist belongs about twenty to twenty-four weeks out, approval and a justified methodology sixteen to twenty weeks out, a pilot run fourteen to sixteen weeks out, and full data collection ten to fourteen weeks out. Processing, then a first full draft, then teacher feedback fill the remainder. The common UAE error is scheduling data collection into Eid or the summer, when laboratories are shut and families travel. Collect in term time and write in the break. Confirm the actual dates with your child's IB coordinator, who holds both the internal deadline and the school's upload schedule.

What exactly may a tutor do with a Physics investigation draft, and what is off limits?+

A tutor may teach the physics, explain criterion wording, ask questions until the student sees that a research question cannot be measured, demonstrate uncertainty propagation on a different data set, show how gradient lines are drawn, and give written feedback naming which criterion a section is weak against and why. A tutor may not supply a research question to adopt, type any part of the report, rewrite prose, insert a calculation into the student's file, or provide a model investigation to adapt. The test we use: could the student explain every decision in the report to an examiner who asked why? If not, that part is not theirs.

Is paying someone to supply a finished Physics investigation actually a problem?+

Yes, and the consequence lands on the student rather than on the seller. Submitting work that is not the student's own is academic malpractice under IB rules, and a finding can cost the subject grade or the whole Diploma. One site ranking for this search advertises completed internal assessments for a four-figure AED sum; the fee is irrelevant to the risk. Moderators compare internal marks against examination performance, and a mark that does not fit attracts exactly the scrutiny a family does not want. Teaching, criterion feedback and process coaching are legitimate and get the student to a better report anyway.

Does the Physics investigation mark the school gives stay the same?+

Not necessarily. The school marks the investigation, applies its own internal standardisation across the year group, and submits the mark to the International Baccalaureate with a sample of work. An IB moderator can adjust a school's marks upwards or downwards. That is why a supervising teacher's encouraging read of a draft is not the final word, and why a specialist reading against the published criterion wording is looking for what survives moderation rather than for what pleases a reader. It also means an unusually generous internal mark is not a safe thing for a family to rely on.

Is the investigation different at Higher Level and Standard Level?+

The form, the four criteria, the 24 marks and the 3,000-word ceiling are the same, and it is worth 20 per cent of the grade at both levels. A Standard Level student therefore carries the same investigation workload as a Higher Level one. What differs is the physics available to draw on, and in practice the depth of theory a Higher Level student can bring to Criterion C. Standard Level students sometimes assume the investigation is scaled down for them and underinvest in it, which is the opposite of what the mark allocation suggests they should do.

My child's draft lost marks on Criterion D. Is that expensive to fix?+

It is one of the cheaper repairs, because it needs thinking rather than apparatus. Criterion D asks for specific strengths and weaknesses, the direction and size of each weakness's effect on the result, and improvements that name real apparatus. Most lost marks come from a generic list with human error in it and no statement of which way each limitation pushed the measurement. A rewrite directed by questions rather than by corrections usually takes one session plus the student's own work between sessions. No new data is needed, which is why this is a good use of a short rescue block.

Does IB Physics IA help happen over video, or does a tutor travel to our address in the UAE?+

Lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video, with the report and the graphs open on a shared screen. No tutor travels to a UAE address; visiting tuition is something IB Gram offers only in India. For investigation work the video format is a genuine advantage rather than a compromise: a Higher Level Physics specialist who can supervise uncertainty propagation is scarce in any one neighbourhood and available nationally, so a family in Fujairah gets the same specialist a family in Dubai does. It also removes the travel loading that puts in-home rates AED 30 to 100 an hour above online ones.

Can sessions move to a post-Iftar slot during Ramadan?+

Yes, and for most families they should. School days are shortened during Ramadan and a fasting student is not at their sharpest at four in the afternoon. A slot from around 20:30 works better, and investigation work survives the shift more comfortably than full past-paper practice does, because reading a criterion or recalculating an uncertainty is a contained task. Families who simply cancel for a month lose four weekly sessions, and in DP2 that month usually sits uncomfortably close to an internal deadline. Sessions are booked in Gulf Standard Time, so no conversion arithmetic is needed at your end.

Can one specialist cover both the Physics investigation and the Maths internal assessment?+

Sometimes, and when it works it is cheaper than matching two people. The overlap is real: both reward correct data treatment, honest reflection and mathematics that does something rather than decorates. A Physics student may reuse their own experimental data for the Maths internal assessment, which is permitted, though the same piece of work cannot be submitted twice. Where the Maths requirement is a statistics-heavy Applications and Interpretation report, a dedicated mathematician is usually the better match. We will tell you which case you are in during the first conversation rather than after you have paid for hours.

Start with the criterion that is losing the marks

If your child has a Physics investigation in progress, the useful first step is not booking a block of hours. It is finding out which of the four criteria is costing the marks, because that answer decides whether you need three hours of arithmetic or another afternoon at the bench.
