IGCSE Home Tutor in Sobha Hartland

Hiring an IGCSE home tutor in Sobha Hartland looks like a logistics problem and is really a specification problem. There are at least three IGCSE awarding bodies in use across Dubai schools, and a tutor who does not know which one your child sits is preparing them for a paper they will not see. This page puts the board question first, gives the market rates for home visits, and explains why IB Gram teaches this one-to-one over live video instead.

  • Tutors matched to the specification code, not to the subject name
  • Home-visit market rates in AED published, each source named

At IGCSE, "knows the syllabus" means knows the specification code

Parents searching for a local IGCSE tutor are usually worried about the wrong variable. The worry is distance. The actual risk is that the tutor knows the subject and not the specification, and at IGCSE that gap is wider than most families realise. Three awarding bodies are in common use across Dubai schools, and they do not set the same papers, assess practical work the same way, or even always offer the same tiers.

The gap is not academic snobbery. It is the difference between a student who has rehearsed the paper in front of them and one who has rehearsed a similar paper set by a different organisation, and in the last eight weeks before a series that difference is the whole game.

Take maths. Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics runs Core and Extended tiers and, under the syllabus in use from 2025, pairs a non-calculator paper with a calculator paper. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics Specification A runs Foundation and Higher tiers and permits a calculator in both papers. A tutor who drills mental arithmetic with a Pearson candidate is spending your money on a skill the paper never tests. A tutor who never drills it with a Cambridge candidate has left half a paper unrehearsed. Same subject, same year group, opposite preparation.

The sciences diverge too. Cambridge IGCSE sciences offer an alternative-to-practical paper route, so a candidate's experimental skills may be assessed through a written paper about practical work. Pearson's International GCSE sciences assess practical understanding within the written papers rather than through a separate practical examination. Either way, a Dubai student studying partly online needs to know which model applies to them, and so does whoever is teaching them. The school knows and will tell you if you ask for the specification code in writing.

So that is the honest answer to the question behind the search. Sobha Hartland is well served for schools and thinly served, like every Dubai community, for subject specialists who happen to live nearby and happen to know the exact specification your child sits. The chance of those three conditions coinciding in nine subjects is low. The chance of a parent discovering the mismatch before the final eight weeks is lower still, because a competent tutor teaching the wrong specification looks exactly like a competent tutor.

IB Gram handles it by removing geography from the match. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and we ask for the specification code before proposing anyone. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we offer only in India. The sections below give the board comparison, the home-visit market rates, the arithmetic of supporting a student across nine subjects, and the series calendar counted backwards. Nothing here promises a grade. It gives you the questions that make a tutor's competence testable in one lesson, which is more useful than a promise.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Sobha Hartland students reach IGCSE through more than one route and leave it for more than one destination. These three stages are where a specification question changes what tutoring should actually do, and each has a different cost profile across a year.

KS3Ages 11-14 · Years 7-9

Years 7 to 9, before IGCSE begins

The years nobody tutors and the years where tutoring is cheapest to make count. Algebraic fluency, reading stamina and scientific vocabulary are built here, and a student who arrives in Year 10 without them spends two years catching up at a time when new content is arriving weekly. A short block in Year 8 or 9 on one weak foundation costs a fraction of a Year 11 recovery programme.

In the central corridor many students transfer between schools and sometimes between curricula during these years, arriving from American, Indian or national systems. Those transitions leave specific, identifiable gaps rather than general weakness, which is why a diagnostic first lesson matters more for a transfer student than for anyone else.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Years 10 and 11, the examination course

Typically eight to ten subjects sat as external examinations, with tiering decided by the school in most subjects that offer it. There is no safety net: in most IGCSE subjects the written papers carry the whole grade, so a weak paper is not offset by coursework. The specification code determines the paper structure, the tiers available and how practical or spoken skills are assessed.

Dubai's UK-curriculum schools account for the largest share of private enrolment in the emirate, so IGCSE is the commonest qualification a Hartland tutor is asked about. That breadth is why the specification question matters: a large market using several awarding bodies produces tutors who have taught one and assume the others are the same.

Post-16Ages 16-19 · Years 12-13

What the IGCSE grade is actually for

IGCSE grades open or close post-16 routes. Schools set entry requirements for A Level and IB Diploma courses, often a grade 6 or 7 in the subject, and those thresholds are where a Year 11 grade stops being a report-card number. Students heading for Higher Level sciences or A Level Mathematics need fluency rather than a bare pass, which is a different target from the one most revision aims at.

Several schools near Sobha Hartland offer both the IB Diploma and A Levels after IGCSE, so the Year 11 results decide the shape of the next two years. Families who work out the post-16 entry requirements during Year 10 tend to buy far less tutoring in Year 12 than those who treat results day as the moment to start planning.

Subject coverage

IB subjects we tutor

An IGCSE student carries eight to ten subjects at once, which is the practical heart of this page. These are the subjects we cover for central-corridor families, with the specification-dependent detail that changes how a session is spent in each.

Mathematics

Core, Extended, Foundation, Higher

Tier and calculator rules both depend on the board. Marks go missing in algebraic manipulation, in multi-step problems where no working is written down, and in the missing final statement on geometry and trigonometry questions.

Physics

Core, Extended, Foundation, Higher

Equation rearrangement and standard form cost more marks than conceptual misunderstanding. How practical skills are assessed differs by board, which changes whether a student needs alternative-to-practical preparation at all.

Chemistry

Core, Extended, Foundation, Higher

Moles, concentration and percentage yield are the arithmetic choke points, and organic chemistry rewards detail rather than recall. Students who skip balancing practice lose marks across every calculation question.

Biology

Core, Extended, Foundation, Higher

Terminology precision and data interpretation carry the marks. A student who writes fluently but imprecisely tends to plateau, and command-term work fixes that faster than more content revision.

English Language

First Language and Second Language

First Language and Second Language are different qualifications with different demands, and students are sometimes entered for the one that suits the school's timetable rather than their ability. Worth confirming which.

English Literature

Single tier

Set texts vary by school and by year, so a tutor must teach the actual texts rather than the skill in the abstract. Marks are lost in describing plot instead of analysing how a writer creates effect.

Economics

Core and Extended

Diagram accuracy and percentage work are the two mark-losing areas, and the evaluation marks are verbal. A numerate student can do well here once the arithmetic is secure.

Business Studies

Core and Extended

Break-even, ratio and cash-flow work are the quantitative core, and application to the given case study is where students lose the analysis marks by answering generically.

Computer Science

Core and Extended

Number bases, logic and algorithm tracing are learnable in a handful of sessions. Programming questions reward precision in pseudocode conventions that differ between specifications.

Additional Mathematics

Single tier

Taken by stronger Extended candidates in some corridor schools as a bridge to A Level or Higher Level maths. Students who struggle usually have an Extended gap rather than an Additional Mathematics one.

IGCSE coverage

IGCSE subjects we tutor

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580

Core and Extended

Under the syllabus in use from 2025 each tier pairs a non-calculator paper with a calculator paper, both at 50%. Core cannot reach the top grades. Non-calculator drill is essential preparation here and not elsewhere.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A 4MA1

Foundation and Higher

Two papers of two hours at 50% each, calculator permitted throughout. Higher tier reaches the top grades. The drill that matters is multi-step problem structuring rather than mental arithmetic.

Cambridge IGCSE sciences 0620, 0625, 0610

Core and Extended

Separate papers by tier, with an alternative-to-practical route available for experimental skills. A student studying partly online needs to know which practical option their centre uses.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE sciences 4CH1, 4PH1, 4BI1

Foundation and Higher

Practical understanding is assessed within the written papers rather than through a separate practical examination, which changes what revision of experimental method looks like.

Oxford AQA International GCSE

Varies by subject

In use at some Dubai centres and often overlooked by tutors who assume Cambridge or Pearson. Paper structures and assessment models differ, so the code must be confirmed rather than inferred from the subject name.

Cambridge IGCSE English 0500 and 0510

First Language and Second Language

Two distinct qualifications with different components, including a speaking element in some routes. Students entered for the wrong one are working to the wrong criteria all year.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, all one-to-one and online. Which one fits depends on how many subjects are involved and whether the problem is content, technique or a tier question. The free trial lesson settles that rather than an enquiry form.

Single-subject weekly

One subject, one tutor, one slot a week. The normal arrangement and the right one when a single subject is dragging. Working weekly in one subject across a term fixes foundations and then technique, in that order, and leaves the student enough time to carry the other eight subjects without resentment.

  • Specification code confirmed before the first session
  • Named practice after each session, marked before the next
  • Tier reviewed against the student's own marked work early on
  • Written note to parents on what is moving and what is not

Two-subject split

Two subjects, usually one session each a week, chosen because the subjects share an underlying weakness. Maths and Physics is the commonest pairing, since equation handling costs marks in both. Economics and Business Studies is another. The point of pairing is that one piece of remedial work serves two grades rather than duplicating effort.

  • Paired for a shared weakness, not for convenience
  • Sometimes the same tutor, sometimes two, depending on specialism
  • Shared diagnosis written up once and applied in both subjects
  • Reviewed after a half-term to check both grades are moving

Pre-series intensive

Two or three sessions a week for six to ten weeks before the June or November series, built from the student's own mock papers. Topic order comes from where marks were lost, and some topics are explicitly set aside. This is the most expensive format per month and the shortest, which is why it is honest rather than exploitative.

  • First session spent marking the mock question by question
  • Whole papers under timed conditions, matched to the board's structure
  • Explicit list of topics not being revised, agreed with the student
  • Fixed end date; no automatic renewal after the series

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Sobha Hartland

01

The three awarding bodies in Dubai and what actually changes between them

This is the section that justifies the page. A tutor who says they teach IGCSE Physics has told you almost nothing, because at least three awarding bodies set IGCSE Physics for Dubai candidates and they differ in paper structure, tiering and practical assessment. The subject name is shared; the examination is not. Ask your school for the specification code in writing, in every subject you are considering tutoring for, and give it to the tutor before the first lesson.

The differences are not cosmetic. Tier vocabulary changes: Cambridge uses Core and Extended, Pearson uses Foundation and Higher. Calculator rules change, and in maths that changes the entire shape of a revision programme. Practical assessment changes: Cambridge sciences offer an alternative-to-practical route, while Pearson assesses practical understanding inside the written papers. Series availability differs slightly, which matters when a resit is being planned. Oxford AQA, in use at some Dubai centres, is the one most often assumed away entirely.

There is one further difference worth understanding, because parents ask about it and almost nobody explains it. Some Pearson International GCSE qualifications allow assessment to be taken across more than one series rather than all at the end, which is where the word modular comes from in Dubai parents' groups. Cambridge IGCSE is normally sat as a complete set in a single series. Which model applies to your child depends on the subject and on what the school has chosen, so it is a question for the examinations officer rather than for a tutoring site. The answer changes when revision has to peak.

What an IGCSE home tutor costs here, and the nine-subject arithmetic

The home-visit market deserves straight figures rather than a redirection. In-home one-to-one in Dubai runs roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour, travel included in the figure, with monthly packages advertised around AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visits. Online equivalents sit lower: around AED 150 to 300 an hour for a qualified subject tutor, AED 200 to 450 and above for a specialist, and around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions. Those are other providers' published figures, read in October 2026, and they are market context rather than IB Gram's prices.

Now apply that to an IGCSE student, because this is where the arithmetic bites in a way it does not at Diploma level. An IGCSE candidate takes eight to ten subjects. A parent who decides tutoring is needed rarely means one subject; they mean maths, two sciences and possibly English. At in-home rates, four weekly subjects is sixteen to twenty contact hours a month and a figure that exceeds many school fee instalments. At that point the question stops being which tutor and becomes how many subjects genuinely need paying for.

The honest answer is usually one or two. In most cases the subjects that look weak share a cause: arithmetic and algebra showing up in Physics and Chemistry, or writing structure showing up in English and Economics. Fix the cause once and two or three grades move. The table below sets out what each rung costs when scaled to multiple subjects, so you can see where the spend stops being proportionate. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE at all, so the in-home rows are market context for comparison rather than something we sell.

Online against a home visit, from a Hartland address

With the figures on the table, the comparison can be made on something other than price. For an IGCSE student the variables that matter are slightly different from a Diploma student's, because the problem is usually breadth rather than depth: nine subjects, several mediocre, a parent who cannot tell which one to attack first.

On matching, online wins because the pool is the whole market and the specification code can be honoured. In-home narrows the field to those who will drive to Hartland at four in the afternoon, and in a nine-subject situation the chance that this person knows all the relevant specifications is small. On continuity, online wins because a student who moves house, changes school or travels keeps the same tutor. In a transient community like this one that is not a small advantage.

On accountability, online tends to win because marked practice and written feedback are easier to produce and to keep than verbal comments at a kitchen table, and a parent can check that it is happening without understanding the subject. On cost, online wins by the travel premium, which is between roughly AED 30 and 150 an hour in this market. The one variable where in-home has a real claim is supervision: a fourteen-year-old who will not work unless someone is physically present is a genuine category, and for them a local arrangement may be the right answer. We do not offer home visits in the UAE, so we will say so rather than pretend otherwise.

Nine subjects, one weak report: how to decide what to pay for

  • Look for one weakness under several subjects before buying several subjects
  • Maths and the sciences usually share an algebra problem, not three content problems
  • Humanities grades usually share a writing-structure problem
  • Blank answers mean content; right methods scoring badly mean technique
  • Technique losses are faster and cheaper to fix than content gaps
  • Ask for the distinction in writing after the trial lesson, before booking

The commonest IGCSE enquiry is not about one subject. It is a report card with four or five grades below expectation and a parent who wants all of it fixed. Spending across five subjects at once is the single most expensive decision available in this market, and it is almost never necessary. There is a cheaper method and it takes one session plus a conversation.

Start by separating the subjects where the grade reflects understanding from those where it reflects a transferable weakness. Arithmetic and algebra sit underneath maths, physics, chemistry and the quantitative parts of economics and business. Writing structure sits underneath English, history and the extended answers in every humanities subject. Reading speed and comprehension sit underneath everything. A student whose report shows weakness across science and maths usually has one problem, not four.

Then separate content gaps from technique losses. A content gap shows up as blank answers and wrong methods. A technique loss shows up as right methods scoring badly: no working shown, command terms misread, final statements missing, time running out. Content gaps need teaching. Technique losses need marked practice and are much faster to fix. A parent who can tell these apart buys perhaps a third of the tutoring they first thought they needed, and the trial lesson is designed to produce exactly that distinction in writing.

One more sorting rule, which saves money in the subjects left over. Some weak grades are not weakness at all but entry at the wrong tier or in the wrong qualification, such as a student sitting English First Language who should be sitting Second Language, or a maths candidate capped by a Core entry made in Year 9. Those are conversations with the school rather than purchases from a tutoring service, and a tutor who notices one and tells you has saved you more than a term of sessions would have earned them.

05

The June and November series, counted backwards

UAE IGCSE candidates sit the June series and the November series. The February and March series that appears in some online revision guides is offered to India only, and a plan built around it for a Dubai student is simply wrong. If you see those months in material sold to you, treat it as a reason to question everything else in the document.

The dates that constrain a student are set well before the examination itself, and the published record shows the pattern. For Pearson Edexcel International GCSE, the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, and results follow in January: November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. For the summer series, June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026. Those are past dates, given so you can see the rhythm rather than so you can diary them.

For anything in the future, open the awarding body's live timetable instead of trusting a restatement, including this one. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series and revises them. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, warning that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong one. That single piece of administrative detail is worth more to a Dubai family than most revision advice, and almost nobody passes it on.

KHDA, the Hartland schools and what the IGCSE grade is used for later

Dubai's private schools are overseen by KHDA, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, described on u.ae as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Annual inspection runs on a six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak and the outcome is published school by school. For a Hartland parent, the departmental commentary inside a report is more useful than the band, because a strong maths department can sit inside an averagely rated school.

Context on scale and cost: Dubai's private sector served 387,441 students across 227 schools in 2024-25 across seventeen curricula, with the UK curriculum the largest single share of enrolment. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total, and the 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools creating 16,846 new places.

The grade itself has two later uses worth planning for. The first is post-16 entry, where schools set their own thresholds for A Level and IB Diploma courses. The second is UAE Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track, which requires five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education not counted among those five, plus one accredited Advanced Level subject at no less than E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade. One competitor ranking for these queries publishes a requirement of six subjects, which is wrong. Equivalency is a process the ministry performs; verify your own case through its attestation channel rather than through any tutoring service, including this one.

On credentials, plainly: IB Gram is not KHDA approved, ADEK approved or accredited by Cambridge, Pearson or Oxford AQA, and does not claim to be. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific licence for training institutes with premises in Dubai. Any service advertising KHDA-approved tutors is describing something else or saying something untrue, and for a parent comparing quotes that is a quick and useful filter.

07

Coursework, practicals and what a tutor must refuse to do

Most IGCSE subjects are assessed entirely by written paper, which removes a great deal of temptation. Some are not. Where a coursework, portfolio or spoken component exists, the rules are the same as anywhere else: the work must be the student's own, and a tutor who offers to produce it is offering malpractice with the consequence landing on the student rather than on themselves.

What a tutor does with a coursework component is explain the criteria, question a chosen focus until it is workable, teach the skills it requires, and give feedback on a draft the student has written. What a tutor does not do is choose the focus, supply the content, write or rewrite the text, or hand over an example so close to the task that copying is the obvious next step. We say this to the student directly in the first session rather than burying it in terms and conditions, because a fifteen-year-old under pressure is entitled to know where the line is in advance.

Practical science needs its own note for online students, because it is the question families ask most often. A tutor cannot run a laboratory over video and should not pretend otherwise. What a tutor can do is teach experimental method, variables and controls, uncertainty, graph work and the specific conventions the examination rewards, all of which are examinable in writing. Which model applies, an alternative-to-practical paper or practical understanding assessed within the written papers, depends on the specification, which is one more reason to get the code from the school. We also do not reproduce or distribute syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables; we reference them and link to the awarding body's own page.

08

Getting started from Sobha Hartland, and what we say when a board is unfamiliar

Start with the specification codes rather than with the subject list. Email the school's examinations officer and ask which awarding body and which code each subject is entered for, and which tier where tiering applies. Send that with the latest grades, the teacher comments quoted rather than summarised, and the time the school day ends. From Hartland that last detail is better than in most of Dubai, since two schools sit inside the community, and it makes earlier session times possible.

We then propose a tutor and run a free trial lesson, which is a diagnosis rather than a sales call. Ask afterwards for the content-versus-technique distinction described earlier on this page, in writing. If the answer is general, do not book the block, whatever the rate. A tutor who cannot separate a content gap from a technique loss will teach content for a year to a student who needed marked practice.

And the honest part. Where a specification is unfamiliar to a tutor we tell you rather than letting them learn on your time. Cambridge and Pearson are both well covered. Oxford AQA and the less commonly entered subjects are thinner, and in those cases the options are a different tutor, a short wait, or a tutor based outside the UAE who has taught that specification and works to Gulf Standard Time. What we will not do is accept a booking for a board nobody on the team has taught and hope the differences do not matter. They matter most in the final eight weeks, which is exactly when there is no time to recover.

Where we tutor

Sobha Hartland and the communities around it

Hartland sits among dense central communities that share schools and tutors. The relevant local differences for an IGCSE decision are which schools a community feeds, what in-home quotes look like, and how early a session can start.

Sobha Hartland

High-density towers and villas with two schools inside the community, so a short walk can replace a school run. That makes early session times genuinely possible here, which is unusual in central Dubai.

Meydan

Shares several schools with Hartland and competes for the same evening tutoring slots. Parents here report the same spread of in-home quotes as Hartland for identical work.

Nad Al Sheba

Established schools a short drive south, with a mix of IGCSE and IB routes. One of the few nearby communities where teaching staff actually live in any number.

Business Bay

Transient tower population with frequent mid-year arrivals, so Year 10 and Year 11 transfers are common. Transfer students usually need specification-specific catch-up rather than general support.

Downtown Dubai

Short drives to several British-curriculum schools and the easiest access to group classes, which are the cheapest format for a shared topic gap across a cohort.

Al Jaddaf

Near the creek crossings and several schools, so a session can begin soon after the school day ends. Short local commutes keep quotes near the middle of the market band.

Al Quoz

Where most of the corridor's tuition centres are, and the cheapest group provision within reach of Hartland. Cheap and suitable are different tests, but the option is real.

Mohammed Bin Rashid City

Large plots and long internal drives, which pushes in-home quotes towards the top of the market band without changing the teaching that arrives.

Al Safa, Downtown, Al Quoz and Al Barsha

Email the school's examinations officer for the awarding body, the code and the tier in every subject you are considering. It takes one message and it prevents the most expensive mismatch in this market, which is a competent tutor preparing a student for the wrong paper.

  2. 02

Send grades and the teacher's actual words

Quote the teacher comment rather than summarising it, and say whether each grade came from a mock or from classwork. A mock grade and a classwork grade mean different things, and the difference changes which subject we would start with.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson, then ask for the distinction

The first session costs nothing. Afterwards ask, in writing, which of your child's problems are content gaps and which are technique losses. That single distinction usually reduces the number of subjects worth paying for from five to one or two.

  4. 04

Start with one subject, not four

We will recommend the smallest number of subjects that addresses the underlying weakness, and review after a half-term. A service whose answer to a weak report card is four weekly sessions is describing its revenue model rather than your child's problem.

  5. 05

    Practice set, practice marked

Each session ends with named past-paper questions matched to the correct specification, and the next begins with them marked against the published criteria. Checking that this happens requires no subject knowledge from you, which makes it the most useful accountability available.

  6. 06

    Review against the series calendar

The plan is checked against the June or November series: mock results, entry confirmation, the final block. Intensity rises for a defined period and then the block ends, rather than continuing because stopping feels like a risk.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The board question asked first

We ask for the specification code before proposing a tutor, because Cambridge, Pearson Edexcel and Oxford AQA set different papers. No competitor page in this market treats the awarding body as the first question, and it is the one that decides whether the hours count.

The nine-subject arithmetic published

We show what tutoring costs when scaled across four subjects rather than one, because that is what a weak report card tempts a parent into. Seeing the figure is usually enough to change the plan to something proportionate.

Content gaps separated from technique losses

The trial lesson produces that distinction in writing, and it is what reduces a five-subject panic to a one-subject fix. Technique losses respond to marked practice in weeks; content gaps need teaching. Confusing them is how families overspend.

Practical science described honestly

Nobody runs a laboratory over video. We teach experimental method, variables, uncertainty and the written conventions that are actually examined, and we tell you which assessment model your specification uses rather than glossing over it.

AED figures with named sources

Every rate on this page carries the provider that published it and the month we read it. They are market context, not our price list, which follows a free trial lesson and an honest count of how many subjects need paying for.

No borrowed credentials

We explain what KHDA and MoHRE do and link to their own material. We do not describe IB Gram or any tutor as KHDA approved or Cambridge accredited, because none of that is true of us and the phrase is a reliable signal to walk away.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Sobha Hartland: your questions answered

Which IGCSE exam board does my child's school use, and how do I find out?+

Ask the school's examinations officer for the awarding body and the specification code in every subject, in writing. Dubai schools use Cambridge International, Pearson Edexcel International GCSE and Oxford AQA International GCSE, sometimes different bodies for different subjects within one school. The code matters because paper structures, tier names, calculator rules and practical assessment all differ. A tutor who teaches the subject but not the specification can look entirely competent while preparing your child for a paper they will never see, and the mismatch usually surfaces too late to fix.

Are Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSEs really that different?+

Different enough to change a revision programme. Tier names differ: Core and Extended against Foundation and Higher. In maths, Cambridge's current structure pairs a non-calculator paper with a calculator paper while Pearson's Specification A permits a calculator in both, so mental arithmetic drill is essential for one and close to irrelevant for the other. In the sciences, Cambridge offers an alternative-to-practical route while Pearson assesses practical understanding inside the written papers. Both are respected qualifications; neither is a substitute for knowing which one your child sits.

Do your tutors come to homes in Sobha Hartland?+

No. IB Gram delivers one-to-one tuition over live video throughout the UAE, and home visits are a service we offer only in India. We state it plainly because home tutor is the phrase parents search and the ambiguity would be easy to leave in place. If physical supervision is what your child actually needs, a local in-home arrangement is the right choice, and the market rates on this page let you judge it. For specification-matched teaching across several subjects, online delivery produces the better match.

What does "modular" mean with Pearson Edexcel compared with Cambridge?+

It refers to when assessment is taken rather than to the content. Some Pearson International GCSE qualifications allow assessment to be taken across more than one series instead of all at the end, while Cambridge IGCSE is normally sat as a complete set in a single series. Which model applies depends on the subject and on what your school has chosen, so ask the examinations officer rather than assuming. The answer changes when revision has to peak, which is the practical reason it matters to a tutoring plan rather than being a technicality.

How are science practicals handled if my child studies partly online?+

No tutor runs a laboratory over video, and one who implies otherwise is overselling. What is taught online is the examinable part: experimental method, independent and dependent variables, controls, uncertainty, graph work and the written conventions the mark scheme rewards. Whether that is assessed through an alternative-to-practical paper or inside the written papers depends on the specification, which is one more reason to get the code from the school. The hands-on work belongs to the school's own practical programme, and a tutor should be asking what that programme has covered.

My child's report shows five weak subjects. Do we need five tutors?+

Almost certainly not, and buying five is the most expensive mistake available here. Weak grades across maths and the sciences usually share one cause, which is arithmetic and algebra, and weak grades across humanities usually share writing structure. Fix the cause once and several grades move. Separate content gaps, which show as blank answers and wrong methods, from technique losses, which show as right methods scoring badly. The trial lesson exists to produce that distinction in writing so you can buy one or two subjects instead of five.

What does a home tutor cost in this part of Dubai for IGCSE?+

In-home one-to-one runs roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour in this market, travel included, with monthly packages advertised around AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visits. Online equivalents sit at about AED 150 to 300 an hour for a qualified subject tutor and AED 200 to 450 and above for a specialist, with packages around AED 799 a month for eight sessions. Those are other providers' published figures read in October 2026 and attributed in the tables here. Scaled across four subjects, the in-home figure rarely stays proportionate.

Is it worth starting tutoring in Year 9 rather than waiting?+

For a specific weakness, yes, and it is the cheapest intervention on this page. Algebraic fluency, reading stamina and scientific vocabulary are built before Year 10, and a student who arrives without them spends two years catching up while new content keeps arriving. A short block in Year 8 or 9 on one named foundation costs a fraction of a Year 11 recovery programme. What is not worth buying in Year 9 is open-ended weekly support for a student who is coping, which is how families spend most and gain least.

Which tier should my child be entered for, and who decides?+

The school decides, usually in Year 10, from class performance, and it is right most of the time. The predictable exceptions are a student capped by a weak Year 9 who has since improved, and a student pushed up on effort rather than on algebra who cannot access the harder half of the paper. Both are visible in one marked paper. A tier review is the best possible use of a first session, because it either confirms the school's judgement or gives you evidence for a conversation with the department while a change is still possible.

How quickly can you match a tutor for an unusual IGCSE subject?+

Cambridge and Pearson maths, sciences, English, economics and business are usually days. Oxford AQA specifications and the less commonly entered subjects take longer, sometimes a week or more, and occasionally we cannot cover them at all. When that happens we say so rather than accepting the booking and letting a tutor learn the specification on your time. The alternatives are a different slot, a short wait, or a tutor based outside the UAE who has taught that specification and works to Gulf Standard Time.

If one of my child's IGCSE subjects has a coursework component, how much can a tutor touch it?+

Within limits we state to the student in the first session. A tutor may explain the criteria, question a chosen focus until it is workable, teach the skills the component requires, and give feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor may not choose the focus, supply content, write or rewrite text, or hand over an example close enough to copy. The work must be the student's own; submitting anything else is malpractice and the consequence falls on the student, not on whoever helped.

Do private tutors in Dubai need a permit, and is it expensive for them?+

They need one and it costs nothing. MoHRE issues a private tuition work permit under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen, and applications run through MoHRE's own private tutor licensing service. Those tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule is published, so disregard any specific amount you see quoted.

When are IGCSE exams held for students in the UAE, and is there a resit?+

Cambridge IGCSE runs a June series and a November series; Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November. The February and March series seen in some online guides is offered to India only and should not appear in a Dubai plan. November functions as the resit route within the same academic year for both bodies. For actual dates, open the awarding body's live timetable: Pearson publishes provisional timetables and revises them, and Cambridge allocates centres to administrative zones and requires the correct zone version of the timetable to be used.

Can sessions move for Ramadan, travel or mock weeks?+

Yes, and online delivery is what makes it straightforward. During Ramadan sessions commonly shift to a post-Iftar slot, with no journey to renegotiate at either end. When a family travels the lesson follows the student rather than the address, and during mock weeks sessions can be paused or redirected towards whatever the mocks have just exposed. Agree the time zone the session is pinned to if you are leaving the Gulf, and give us notice so the slot is held rather than released to someone else.

How many sessions before we see the grade move?+

For a technique loss, often within a half-term, because habits such as writing working and reading command terms properly change quickly with marked practice. For a content gap, a term is realistic and two is common, since the material has to be taught and then practised. Nobody can promise a grade and anyone who does is selling something other than teaching. What is reasonable to expect is a specific written account of what is costing marks after the first lesson, and visible change in the marked practice within six weeks.

What should I send to get a useful recommendation for my child?+

Five things. The awarding body and specification code per subject, from the school. The tier, where tiering applies. The latest grades, labelled as mock or classwork. The teacher's last written comment, quoted rather than paraphrased. And the time the school day ends, which in Sobha Hartland is often earlier in practice than elsewhere because two schools sit inside the community. A photograph of one marked paper is worth more than all five, and with it we can usually propose a tutor the same day.

Send the specification code first, the subject list second

The search that brought you here is about distance. The thing that decides whether the hours you pay for count is whether the tutor knows the exact specification your child is entered for, across the subjects that actually carry the problem. Email the examinations officer, get the codes and tiers in writing, and send them with the latest grades and the teacher's own words. We will propose a tutor, run the first session free, and tell you in writing which weaknesses are content and which are technique before you commit to anything.
