IB Online Tuition in the UAE

IB online tuition in the UAE is bought by the hour, and almost nobody selling it will tell you what the hour contains. This page does both: what providers across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and the northern emirates publish in AED, what sets one rate above another, and what a well-run sixty minutes on live video does to a Diploma grade. Lessons here are one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time, and they start with a free trial lesson with the specialist who would teach the block.

  • Market AED rates printed on the page, with the month they were read
  • One-to-one over live video, never a recorded course or a group class
  • Slots set in Gulf Standard Time, around the UAE school night
  • Feedback on coursework only: the student's file stays the student's work

IB & IGCSE in the UAE

The hour is the unit, so start by pricing the hour

Everything in IB online tuition in the UAE is sold by the hour, and the hour is where every honest question lives. A parent in Jumeirah and a parent in Khalifa City are both handed a figure - AED 180, AED 300, AED 500 - with no account of what sits inside it. Of the providers currently ranking for this search, three publish no price at all and two quote in US dollars, a currency no UAE family pays school fees in. So the first job of this page is arithmetic: what the market charges, in dirhams, and what the money is buying.

The second job is harder. Price in tutoring does not track effort; it tracks scarcity. A Standard Level Biology hour is inexpensive because a great many people can teach it. A Higher Level Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches hour in the fortnight before an Internal Assessment deadline is expensive because the pool of people who can read a student's exploration, find the modelling error and explain it inside forty minutes is small - and smaller still within a one-hour drive of any particular villa. Live online delivery changes that arithmetic, which is exactly why it changes the price.

The third job is to say plainly what we sell. Tuition for UAE families is delivered one-to-one over live video. IB Gram does not send anyone to a UAE address; home visits are part of our India service only. That is not a hedge about quality. It is the reason a family in Fujairah can book a Chemistry HL specialist at all, instead of choosing from whoever happens to live twenty minutes away. A table further down costs both formats over a full term, travel and cancellations included, and lets the numbers make the argument.

What this page does not do is quote an IB Gram rate card by subject. Rates move with level, with the week of the year and with how scarce the specialist is, and a page that pretends otherwise is either stale or quietly wrong - one ranking provider contradicts its own prices within a single page. Every AED figure below is a market figure, read in October 2026 from what UAE providers publish and from Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table. Where our own model comes up, we point at the free trial lesson and the conversation that follows it.

Read what follows as a budget rather than a brochure. There are sections on what a sixty-minute session contains minute by minute, on what the family side costs once, on which ten hours return the most marks, on how the Gulf Standard Time slot you ask for changes the tutors you can afford, and on what a tutor is permitted to do with an Internal Assessment. There is also the part no competitor prints: what happens to your money when you cancel, pause or stop altogether.

At a glance

  • Published market rates, October 2026: roughly AED 33-150 budget online, AED 150-300 for a qualified subject teacher, AED 200-450+ for an IB specialist
  • Advertised packages: around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, against AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits
  • A 5pm Gulf Standard Time slot competes with the British school day; an 8pm slot does not, and the rate reflects it
  • Dubai's private schools taught 387,441 students across 227 schools in 2024-25, with the IB at a 7% share of enrolment (KHDA)
  • KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai will not rise for the 2026-27 academic year
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The IB runs as four separate programmes, and the cost of help differs across them far more than most price lists admit. A primary hour and a Diploma Higher Level hour are not the same product, do not need the same frequency, and should not carry the same rate. Here is what each one asks for in the UAE.

PYPAges 3-12 - FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

The PYP is inquiry-led and has no external examinations, so tuition here is almost never about exam technique. It is about number fluency, reading stamina and writing at length - the three things that quietly decide how a child copes in Year 7. Sessions are short, usually forty-five minutes, and weekly consistency matters far more than hours bought. This is the cheapest band in the market and the one where a careful generalist is genuinely enough.

In the UAE the PYP year carries a load the programme itself does not set. Arabic, Islamic Education and social or moral studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools whatever the licensed curriculum, and KHDA builds instructional time around a 40-minute lesson unit. Many non-Arab families first ask for help here, not in maths, and the request lands years before anyone mentions the Diploma.

MYPAges 11-16 - Years 7 to 11

Middle Years Programme

The MYP assesses against criteria A to D in every subject, marked out of eight each, and that is where families lose ground without noticing. A student can know the content and still score a 4 because the task asked for analysis and received description. Tuition in the MYP is mostly criterion translation: reading the task sheet, naming what the criterion wants, and practising the form of answer that earns it. Fortnightly often beats weekly at this stage.

MYP Year 11 is the fork in the road for UAE families. Some schools run MYP to Year 11 and then the Diploma; others switch pupils to IGCSE for Years 10 and 11. The two routes leave different gaps at DP1, and the September hours needed to close them differ. Ask the school which route your child's cohort is on before buying any block of hours.

DPAges 16-19 - Years 12 to 13

Diploma Programme

The Diploma is where the money goes. Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and the Internal Assessment in each subject - all on deadlines set by the school months before the May session. Specialist hours cost the most here because the specialist pool is narrow: somebody who teaches Physics HL and nothing else is rarer, and more useful, than somebody who teaches all three sciences.

UAE Diploma families buy hours in two bursts: September to February for coursework, then the eight weeks before the first paper. Market rates are tightest in that second window, which is the argument for fixing a slot in January rather than April. Confirm the session dates with your school's IB coordinator and on ibo.org; we do not publish IB exam dates we cannot verify.

CPAges 16-19 - Years 12 to 13

Career-related Programme

The CP combines DP courses with a career-related study, a reflective project and a personal and professional skills course. Fewer schools run it than the Diploma, so finding help is a matter of unbundling it: the DP courses inside the CP are taught by the same specialists who teach them in the Diploma, and the reflective project needs supervision of process rather than subject content.

Because the CP is less common in the UAE, local in-home coverage for it is thin to non-existent in most communities. This is one of the clearest cases where live online tuition is not a compromise but the only realistic route to a subject specialist, and the hourly rate is the standard DP rate rather than a premium.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Below are the subjects UAE families book most often, with what the hour is actually spent on in each. The rate differences between them are not arbitrary: they track how many people can teach the thing well and how concentrated the marks are in the parts students get wrong.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The most expensive routine hour in the Diploma, because the HL pool is small and the content is unforgiving. Hours go on calculus, proof and the modelling demanded by the exploration. Students who switched from MYP maths usually need three or four hours just on algebraic fluency before the HL content can land at all.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Cheaper to staff than AA and often the better route, but the statistics and the graphical-display-calculator work catch students out. The AI exploration lives or dies on whether the data set is real and the model is justified. Maths AA and AI are not interchangeable for university entry, so the route choice is worth an advisory hour on its own.

Physics

HL and SL

Marks are lost in two places: the algebra inside a physics question, and the written explanation that asks why rather than how much. HL adds the options and a heavier data-analysis load. An hour here is usually half method teaching and half marking a past-paper question live, with the markscheme open on the shared screen.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Organic mechanisms, equilibrium and energetics absorb most paid hours, and the Internal Assessment absorbs the rest. The HL specialist pool in the UAE is thin outside Dubai and Abu Dhabi, which is where live online delivery changes what a family can actually buy rather than just how it is delivered.

Biology

HL and SL

The content is learnable from the guide; the marks sit in command terms and in data-based questions on Paper 2 and Paper 3. The cheapest useful hour in the sciences, and the one where a careful non-specialist can still help, as long as the Internal Assessment work goes to somebody who has supervised scientific investigations before.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy and evaluation phrasing decide grades more than content recall. The three commentaries in the portfolio are where most support is bought, and they are also where the honesty line matters most: the tutor reads the student's draft and names what is missing, and the student writes every sentence.

Business Management

HL and SL

Tools, techniques and theories applied to a real organisation, plus an Internal Assessment that depends entirely on the quality of the chosen research question. Two hours spent on narrowing that question in October saves a family six hours of rescue work in February, which is the cheapest trade available in the subject.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

The Individual Oral, Paper 1 guided analysis and the HL Essay need different skills, and students often prepare for all three the same way. An hour here is close reading plus timed writing, with the extract on the shared screen and the annotation done by the student while the tutor watches and intervenes.

Computer Science

HL and SL

A subject where live screen sharing is genuinely better than a tutor in the room: the code, the error and the terminal are all visible to both at once. Hours go on the solution development in the Internal Assessment and on the paper-based theory students neglect because the programming feels like the real work.

Arabic, Islamic Education and UAE Social Studies

Ministry streams and IB Language B or ab initio

Mandatory alongside the IB in UAE private schools and almost never mentioned in a tutoring price list. Handwriting means the student writes on paper under a phone camera or on a tablet with a stylus. Arab and non-Arab streams follow different expectations, and KHDA requires them to be taught in separate classes.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Four patterns cover almost every UAE family that buys IB online tuition. They differ in what they cost per month and in what they are good for, and picking the wrong one is the most common way a tutoring budget gets wasted. Choose the pattern first, then the rate.

Fixed weekly slot, one subject

Sixty minutes a week on the same day at the same Gulf Standard Time, for one subject at one level. The standard arrangement and the one that produces visible movement in a term, because the student has something to do between sessions and the tutor has marked work to react to.

  • Four hours a month, around AED 800-1,200 at mid-market specialist rates
  • A written note after each session saying what was covered and what was set
  • The slot is held for the term, which matters more than the rate in exam season
  • Reviewed at the half-term against the student's own marked school work

Two students, one screen

Siblings or classmates on the same subject and level share a slot and split the cost. Each child gets roughly half the direct attention and the same named specialist, which is a sensible trade for content revision and paper technique and a poor one for anything individually assessed.

  • Cost per student roughly halves; attention per student roughly halves too
  • Both students must be within a grade or so of each other to work
  • Not used for Internal Assessment work, which is individual by rule
  • Useful for IGCSE pairs sitting the same board and the same tier

Document clinic for the IA, EE and TOK

A longer session, usually ninety minutes once a fortnight, built around a draft the student has already written. The document is on screen, the criteria are beside it, and the tutor names what is missing against each one. The student makes every change afterwards, in their own file.

  • Booked a fortnight apart, so there is time to act between readings
  • Criteria read out in full before any comment on the text
  • Feedback is spoken and summarised in notes, never typed into the student's document
  • Your school's academic-honesty policy and deadlines take precedence over ours

Hour bank for the final eight weeks

A block of hours bought for the run-up to the papers and drawn down as the student needs them, paper by paper. Flexible when study leave makes a fixed slot impossible, and the only pattern that reliably survives an exam timetable.

  • Ten hours at mid-market rates sits around AED 2,000-3,000
  • Agree the expiry date in writing before paying for the block
  • Sessions booked against specific papers, not against days of the week
  • Usually sits alongside, not instead of, the standing weekly hour

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in the UAE

01

What a sixty-minute IB online tuition session actually contains

  • Five minutes of diagnosis from real school work, not a warm-up chat
  • Twenty-five minutes of method, written by the student as it is taught
  • Twenty minutes of past-paper practice marked live against the markscheme
  • Ten minutes setting a task with a date, summarised in a note to the parent

A good hour of live online one-to-one has a shape, and you can hear it from the next room. The first five minutes are not teaching: they are the tutor finding out what happened since last week, which piece of marked work came back, and what the student could not do. Skipping that is how an hour gets spent on the wrong topic at full price.

The middle of the session splits roughly in half. One part is teaching - a method worked slowly on a shared screen, with the student writing it out rather than watching. The other part is practice under observation: a real past-paper question, attempted by the student while the tutor watches the working appear and interrupts at the point the error is made rather than after it. That second half is the part a recorded course cannot do, and it is most of what the hourly rate is for.

The last ten minutes set the week. A specific task, a specific deadline, and a note the parent can read. Where there is no task, the next hour starts from the same place as this one, and you pay twice for the same ground. The practical test of whether an hour was worth AED 250 is whether anything existed at the end of it that did not exist at the start: a corrected script, a written method, a task in the student's own handwriting. If three sessions pass with nothing written down at either end, the hour has become a conversation, and a conversation is not what the rate is for.

02

Why the same online hour sells for AED 150 and for AED 500

The bands below are what UAE providers published in October 2026, read from their own pages, plus the in-home range in Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table. They are market figures, not IB Gram prices. What the table shows is that the word online explains almost none of the spread. Three other things do: who is teaching, what the hour is allowed to contain, and how scarce that person is in the slot you want.

At the bottom of the range you are buying supervision. A university student or a generalist works through the textbook, checks homework and answers questions. For a Year 8 who has fallen behind on fractions, that is the correct purchase and paying more would be waste. At the top you are buying diagnosis: somebody who has taught that syllabus at that level, who can read a script and name the three marks the student keeps dropping, and who can do it inside forty minutes. Those are different products with a shared job title.

Treat the premium band with particular care. Rates above AED 500 are usually marketed on examining history, and examiner status is only worth paying for if it can be evidenced and if it is current. No tutor, however experienced, has access to unreleased papers or boundaries, and anybody implying otherwise is selling something they should not. Ask what the hour contains, ask what the last five students at that level were working on, and compare that with the band below it before paying the difference.

500-650+Named tutors at the top of the market, often marketed on examining historyScarcity pricing, sometimes small-group masterclassesRoutine weekly teaching, where the premium buys very little extra
03

A term of twenty-four sessions, costed in both formats

This is the comparison the question deserves. Parents searching for home tuition in the UAE are not wrong to want a tutor in the room, and the honest answer is not that the format is bad - it is that a term of it costs more than the rate card suggests, and that the price buys a smaller choice of teacher. IB Gram delivers one-to-one online, so we have an interest here; the table is built from published market figures rather than from our opinion, and the arithmetic is reproducible.

Two lines do most of the work. The first is minimum session length: a visiting tutor rarely comes for less than ninety minutes, because a shorter visit does not repay the drive, so you buy the minimum rather than the amount of teaching your child actually needs. The second is the pool. A visiting tutor must live within a reasonable drive of your community; an online specialist only has to be awake at your Gulf Standard Time slot. For Standard Level Biology in Mirdif that difference is small. For Higher Level Chemistry in Al Ain or Fujairah it is the difference between a specialist and the nearest available adult.

Nothing here says a tutor in the room is worthless. Younger children, students who will not sit still for a screen, and families who want the household to see the lesson happen all have a real case for it. What the lines below show is the full cost of that case, including the hours lost when the Dubai evening peak decides whether five o'clock means five o'clock. IB Gram does not send anyone to a UAE address; home visits are part of our India service only.

04

What the family side costs, once

Every online tuition page assumes the household is already equipped, and most UAE households nearly are. Still, the first session goes better when three things are sorted beforehand, and the total one-off outlay for a family that owns a laptop is usually under AED 300. The figures below are indicative UAE retail ranges read in October 2026, not charges from us, and they vary by retailer.

The item that makes the most difference per dirham is a wired headset with a microphone. Laptop speakers and a laptop microphone produce an echo the tutor has to talk over, and an hour of that is exhausting for a fifteen-year-old who is already behind. After that comes a way for the student to write rather than type. Maths and science working has to be seen as it appears, so either a stylus and tablet, or the free version: prop a phone over the page, share its camera, and write on paper as normal.

The last requirement costs nothing and gets ignored most often. A room with a door, and a household agreement that the hour is not interruptible. Sessions taken at the kitchen table with a younger sibling in the room are the single most common reason a paid hour returns nothing, and no amount of specialist expertise fixes it. Agree the hour with the family, not only with the student. One more thing belongs in the preparation rather than the shopping: the last marked piece of school work, scanned and sent across before the session starts, so the first five minutes go on the diagnosis instead of on uploading a photograph. Families who do that get noticeably more out of the same sixty minutes, at no extra cost whatever.

05

Session length, frequency, and where more money stops buying marks

Families usually ask how many hours a week. The better question is what shape those hours take, because the same monthly spend produces very different results depending on how it is cut. Bestimate's 2026 estimates for a weekly one-hour session put a budget tutor at AED 240-600 a month, a mid-market tutor at AED 600-1,200, and a specialist in an exam year at AED 1,000-2,000 or more. Those are the envelopes most UAE families are working inside.

Within that envelope, two separated hours generally beat one double session for teaching, and one long session beats two short ones for coursework. The reason is simple: teaching needs gaps for the student to attempt something and fail at it, while a draft needs an uninterrupted run at the data, the method and the criteria. Families who book ninety minutes weekly for ordinary term-time teaching are paying for minutes the student stopped absorbing at about the fifty-minute mark.

There is also a point where buying more hours is the wrong purchase altogether. If a student cannot name what they got wrong in the last school assessment, the next hour should be diagnostic rather than additional. And if three subjects are weak, two hours a week on one subject will move that subject while the other two drift. One properly fixed subject a term is a realistic outcome at one hour a week; three subjects fixed at once is not, at any rate. The cheapest sequencing is usually to take the subject with the most marks at stake first, finish it, and then move the same slot onto the next one rather than splitting the week three ways from the start.

06

Gulf Standard Time is the line in the price nobody prints

Gulf Standard Time is UTC+4, and that single fact quietly decides what an hour of IB online tuition costs a UAE family. A 5pm slot in Dubai is 1pm in Britain in winter, which is the middle of the British school day, so experienced British classroom teachers cannot take it at any price. By 8pm Gulf Standard Time the same teachers are free. The specialist pool available to you is not fixed; it is a function of the clock you ask for.

The slots UAE families want most are also the scarcest. School runs finish, homework starts, and everybody asks for 4pm to 7pm. That window has the deepest competition among local families and the shallowest supply of international specialists, so it carries a premium that has nothing to do with teaching quality. Shifting a Higher Level session to 7.30pm or 8pm typically widens the choice of teacher and eases the rate for exactly the same hour.

Timezones also decide which currency you are quoted in. North American pools find a UAE late-afternoon slot comfortable in their own morning, which is why so many of them compete for the 4pm to 6pm window and quote in dollars. Indian specialists are 90 minutes ahead of Gulf Standard Time, so both the early and late UAE slots sit in a normal working evening for them, which is why supply is deepest and the specialist rates at the lower end of the band come from there.

Where the tutor is basedLocal time at a 5pm Gulf Standard Time slotLocal time at an 8pm slotWhat that does to availability and rate

07

If you can only buy ten hours, here is where they go

  • 3-4 hours on the Internal Assessment while a draft is live and changeable
  • 3 hours on the weakest paper, with questions marked inside the session
  • 2 hours on command terms, timing and markscheme reading
  • 1 hour held back for the week before the first paper

Most families do not have an unlimited budget, and the useful skill is not finding the cheapest hour but spending ten of them where the marks are concentrated. Three or four of those hours belong to the Internal Assessment at draft stage. The IA carries a fifth of the final grade in most Diploma subjects - confirm the current figure for your child's subject in the school's copy of the subject guide - and it is the only component where a second reader can look at the actual work before it is submitted.

Three more hours belong to the single paper the student is weakest at, spent on real past-paper questions marked live rather than on re-reading notes. Two hours belong to technique: command terms, timing, and what a markscheme rewards as opposed to what feels like a good answer. The remaining hour is best held back for the week before the first paper, when a student usually knows exactly what they are frightened of and an hour aimed at that is worth three aimed at everything.

What returns least is content revision the student could do alone from the guide, and what returns nothing at all is an hour booked without a piece of real marked work in front of it. Where a family can buy only a handful of hours, we say so at the trial lesson rather than selling a weekly slot that will not fit the budget to the end of the term. Ten well-aimed hours beat twenty unaimed ones, and that is not a sales line - it is why the diagnosis comes first.

08

How tuition is billed, and what each payment pattern risks

The rate is the part families compare and the terms are the part that costs them. Advertised UAE packages sit around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, against AED 1,599-1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home visits. Both look like savings against an hourly rate, and both are money handed over for teaching not yet delivered. Three questions decide whether that is a good trade: when the hours expire, whether they transfer, and what happens if the tutor becomes unavailable.

Two more things are worth settling in writing before any card is used. Ask whether the quoted AED figure includes VAT and whether the provider holds a tax registration number; the tax treatment of tuition is a matter for the Federal Tax Authority and no tutoring page, this one included, should state it as fact. And where anything is described as free, get the condition on the same screen. Our trial is one session, with the specialist who would actually teach the block, with no obligation to book afterwards - that is the condition, and it should be stated as plainly by anyone else.

Finally, treat the cancellation window as part of the price. An online slot missed with twelve hours' notice can often be moved to later in the week, which is a genuine saving over a visiting tutor who has already driven to Jumeirah. But that only holds if the policy says so. Families who ask for the notice period in hours, in writing, before the first invoice almost never have an argument later.

Buying hours in the right weeks: the school year as a budget

Tutoring money spent in September is worth more than the same money spent in April, and the reason is mechanical rather than motivational. Coursework decisions made early are cheap to get right and expensive to rescue. A Business Management research question narrowed properly in October takes two hours; the same question rescued in February takes six, because the data has already been collected against the wrong frame.

Entry deadlines are the other thing families discover late. Cambridge runs its IGCSE, O Level and International A Level exams in June and November series, and for the March 2027 series the exam period ran 3 February to 4 March 2027 with final entries due on 27 November 2026 and forecast grades on 27 February 2027. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE sits in May/June and November, and the November 2026 timetable ran to 19 November 2026. The paperwork sits months ahead of the paper, and every centre is allocated to one of six Cambridge administrative zones, so the zone version of the timetable is the one that matters.

For IB families the shape is the same even though we do not publish the dates: coursework through the autumn and winter, mocks in between, then the May session UAE schools sit. Confirm every IB date with your school's coordinator and on ibo.org rather than taking it from a tutoring page. Ramadan deserves its own line in the plan - shortened school days and shifted evenings make continuity harder than length, so the sensible move is to keep the slot and shorten it rather than pause for a month and restart cold.

Who is allowed to teach your child privately in the UAE

Private tutoring in the UAE is permitted and regulated, not informal. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and MoHRE grants it free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service is listed as Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, applied for through its app, website and e-services, with a two-working-day completion time.

Anyone providing private tutoring inside the country without a permit is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so no figure circulating online should be trusted, including the amounts that appear on tutoring blogs. A second rule matters for Abu Dhabi families: ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the permit carries a code of conduct to the same effect. This has been press-reported rather than read by us from the current policy document, so verify it with ADEK before relying on it.

A business is a different animal from an individual. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai requires an Educational Services Permit for a training institute from KHDA, renewed annually. IB Gram holds no regulator permit, approval or accreditation of any kind and does not claim one: we are an independent tutor-matching platform with no UAE premises, and our specialists teach over live video. Where a tutor is based outside the UAE, no UAE work permit applies because no work is performed in the country, so the right questions become where they are based and what they have taught.

The two UAE bills that never appear on a tutoring price list

The first is the Ministry subjects. Arabic, Islamic Education and social or moral studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA's requirements were to be implemented from the start of the 2025-26 academic year. Schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and combined classes are strictly prohibited because the curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, with at least 25 minutes advised for any mandatory subject lesson.

That matters for a tutoring budget because these subjects sit on the school report alongside the IB and are the ones non-Arab families most often need help with, yet almost no tutoring price list mentions them. Two constraints apply to how that help is described. Schools must ensure teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic have the appropriate approval from KHDA to teach them, and for the mandatory UAE subjects the use of any different or additional content without prior permission from the MoE is strictly prohibited. Support therefore sticks to the school's own material and the student's own work.

The second bill is the equivalency file, and it is paid in time rather than dirhams. For the British track, the Ministry of Education requires five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3, with Arabic and Islamic education not counted among the five, plus one accredited Advanced Level subject at no less than E or two AS-Level subjects at the same grade. The American track requires SAT Maths of at least 450 and English evidenced by IELTS 5, TOEFL iBT 61 or 450 in SAT reading and writing. No IB points threshold is published in that guidance, so verify the IB position on moe.gov.ae or with the attestation authority in your emirate. Equivalency is a process families complete themselves; tutoring is not required for it and we do not perform it.

Feedback, not ghostwriting: the honesty line on a shared screen

  • The student holds the cursor and makes every edit in their own file
  • Feedback is spoken against the criteria and summarised in notes, never written into the document
  • Drafts are shared before the session, so the hour is spent on the work rather than on reading it
  • Your school's academic-honesty policy and internal deadlines take precedence over any tutoring plan

Screen sharing makes one question sharper than it is in a living room: who is holding the cursor. The answer has to be the student, always. A tutor reads a draft, reads the criteria aloud, names what is missing against each one, and asks the questions that make the student see it. The student then closes the call and makes every change themselves, in their own file. Nothing is typed into the document by anyone else, and nothing is sent back as a rewritten version.

This is not caution for its own sake. Under IB academic-honesty rules the Internal Assessment, the Extended Essay and the Theory of Knowledge essay must be the student's own work, the supervisor confirms that it is, and a breach puts the whole Diploma at risk. There is an essay-mill end of this market in the UAE that sells finished Internal Assessments outright for several thousand dirhams. That transaction is a malpractice trigger for the student, not a shortcut, and we will not be part of it at any price.

What a tutor may legitimately do is still substantial, and it is where online delivery is genuinely strong: the draft, the criteria and the data are all visible to both parties at once. A tutor can teach the method the student chose badly, show how a markscheme reads an evaluation, practise the oral under timed conditions, and tell a student plainly that a section does not yet meet the criterion. Keep the school's own policy and deadlines above ours, send the draft before the session rather than during it, and keep the version history - it is the student's own evidence that the work is theirs.

Where we tutor

Where the family is, and what it does to the price

On a live video lesson your postcode stops deciding which tutor you can have and starts deciding only which slot suits the household. That is a bigger change in some emirates than others. Here is what the local picture does to availability, to timing and to what families end up paying.

Dubai

The deepest local tutor pool in the country and the highest in-home rates, because travel across Sheikh Zayed Road at 5pm is priced into the hour whether or not it is itemised. Online, Dubai families mostly buy the same specialists as everyone else and simply get more choice of slot.

Sharjah

Many families commute into Dubai schools, so the school day ends late and the realistic slot is 6pm or later. SPEA regulates private education in the emirate and approves fees, curricula and assessment methods, which is why a Sharjah school's calendar can differ from a Dubai one.

Abu Dhabi

ADEK licenses and accredits the private schools here, and its professional-ethics rules bar school staff from paid tutoring of students at their own school. For families on the islands and in Khalifa City that rules out the obvious shortcut and makes an independent specialist the normal route.

Al Ain

Also ADEK territory, with fewer IB schools than the capital and a correspondingly thin local pool of Higher Level specialists. The in-home premium is highest exactly where the choice is smallest, which is the clearest arithmetic case for live online one-to-one in the country.

Ajman

Private schools here are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education. Diploma specialists in the emirate are scarce, and a visiting tutor for a niche HL subject is often simply unavailable at any rate rather than expensive.

Ras Al Khaimah

The Department of Knowledge regulates private education in the emirate and approves tuition fees, curricula and assessment methods. RAK families routinely find that the nearest subject specialist is an hour and a half away, so the online rate is the only rate that holds.

Fujairah

Ministry of Education territory on the east coast, with the longest distances in the country between a family and an IB specialist. Online delivery removes travel from the invoice entirely, and the only remaining constraint is agreeing a Gulf Standard Time slot that suits the household.

Umm Al Quwain

The smallest private-school market in the UAE and the one every competitor page ignores. Local in-home coverage for Diploma subjects is close to nil; live online one-to-one puts a UAQ family on exactly the same specialist list as a Dubai Marina family.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in the UAE

Dubai IB schools

Dubai had 227 private schools teaching 17 curricula in 2024-25, with 387,441 students enrolled and the IB at a 7% share. Seven more schools open for 2026-27, three of them IB, adding 16,846 places. Students we support in Dubai sit the Diploma at schools of this kind.

  • Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills
  • GEMS World Academy Dubai
  • Deira International School
  • Raffles World Academy
  • Uptown International School
  • Dubai American Academy

Abu Dhabi and Al Ain

ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools across the emirate, including Al Ain. Families here mix IB and British curriculum schools, and a Diploma student in Al Ain often has a shorter school day but a longer drive to any specialist.

  • Raha International School
  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi
  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • Al Yasmina Academy

Sharjah and the northern emirates

SPEA regulates Sharjah, RAK's Department of Knowledge regulates Ras Al Khaimah, and the Ministry of Education supervises Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. The IB footprint is smaller here, which is precisely why online access to subject specialists matters more.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the subject, the level and the week it matters

Not just Maths: Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, Higher or Standard, and whether the pressure point is an Internal Assessment deadline, a mock or the May session. That is what decides which specialist is the right one and how many hours are realistic.

  2. 02

Send one real piece of marked work

A returned test, a mock script or an IA draft with the teacher's comments on it. One real script tells a specialist more than a paragraph of description, and it is what lets the trial lesson start with a diagnosis rather than with introductions.

  3. 03

Price the hour before you book it

We tell you where the hour sits in the market band for that subject and level, what it will contain, and which Gulf Standard Time slots the specialist can cover. If the budget does not stretch to the pattern the student needs, we say which ten hours to buy instead.

  4. 04

Take the free trial lesson and judge the diagnosis

One session with the specialist who would teach the block, with no obligation to continue. Judge it on one thing: did somebody name specifically what your child keeps getting wrong, and say what they would do about it in the next four weeks?

  5. 05

Fix the slot, then review at the half-term

The pattern and the slot are agreed in Gulf Standard Time, with the cancellation window written down. At the half-term we look at the student's own marked school work rather than at our notes, and change the plan, the frequency or the specialist if it is not moving.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The market rates are printed, with the month we read them

Three of the providers ranking for this search publish no price at all. Every AED figure on this page is attributed to the market and dated to October 2026, so you can check it, argue with it, or use it to negotiate with somebody else.

The hour is specified, not just sold

You can see what a sixty-minute session contains, what the first five minutes are for, and what should exist at the end of it. A rate without a specification is not a price, and most of this market quotes one without the other.

Scheduling built around the UAE evening

Slots are set in Gulf Standard Time around the school run, homework and prayer times, and the clock is treated as part of the price rather than an afterthought. Shifting a Higher Level session later usually widens the choice of specialist.

A written line on coursework

The student holds the cursor. A tutor teaches, reads drafts against the criteria and gives feedback, and nothing goes into the submitted file from anyone else. That line is stated before you book rather than discovered afterwards.

Told plainly where the money will not help

If the right specialist is not free for your slot, we say so rather than substituting a generalist. If ten hours is the budget, we say where they should go. If the problem is a timetable rather than a teacher, extra hours are the wrong purchase and we will say that too.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in the UAE: your questions answered

What does an hour of live online IB tuition sell for in the UAE market?+

Rates published by UAE providers in October 2026 start near AED 33-65 an hour on volume online platforms staffed largely by university students, run AED 150-300 for a qualified subject teacher working online, and reach AED 200-450 or more for an IB specialist teaching one subject at one level. Named premium tutors advertise AED 650. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table puts in-home visits at AED 180-350. None of those is an IB Gram price. Your figure depends on subject, level and how scarce that specialist is in the Gulf Standard Time slot you want, and the trial lesson comes before any of it.

Why do online IB tutors quote anywhere between AED 150 and AED 500 for the same hour?+

Because they are not the same hour. At the lower end you are buying supervision: worked examples, homework checked, questions answered. At the upper end you are buying diagnosis - somebody who has taught that syllabus at that level, can read your child's script and name the three marks they keep dropping, and can do it inside forty minutes. Scarcity sets the rest. A Higher Level option few people teach, in the fortnight before a coursework deadline, in the 5pm to 7pm Gulf Standard Time window every UAE family wants, costs more than the same subject at Standard Level in September.

Does a 90-minute lesson give better value than two 45-minute ones?+

For coursework, yes. An Internal Assessment session needs one uninterrupted run at the data, the method and the criteria, and splitting it wastes ten minutes twice on getting back into the file. For teaching and practice, no. Two separated hours give the student something to attempt in between and give the tutor marked work to react to, which is where marks actually move. The pattern that works for most Diploma students is one 60-minute teaching slot a week in term time, plus a 90-minute coursework session once a fortnight while a draft is live.

What do we need at home before the first online lesson, and what does it cost?+

Less than families expect. A stable connection, a laptop or tablet with a working camera, and a wired headset with a microphone, which retails in the UAE at roughly AED 60-200 and removes the echo that makes an hour exhausting. For maths and the sciences the student needs to write rather than type, so a stylus or small graphics tablet helps at about AED 150-400 - or prop a phone over the page and share its camera for nothing. A free scanning app moves scripts and drafts before the session. Those are indicative retail ranges, not charges from us.

Our broadband drops in the evening. Can a lesson still work?+

Usually, with two adjustments. Turn the student's video off and keep the shared screen on, because the document matters more than the face. Then agree a fallback before it is needed: the tutor rings by phone, the written work stays on screen, and the session continues. Lessons are one-to-one over live video, so audio plus a shared document is the floor rather than the ideal. If drops are frequent, move the slot. UAE residential bandwidth is busiest late in the evening, and a 5pm Gulf Standard Time session often runs more cleanly than a 9pm one.

Why does a 5pm Gulf Standard Time slot cost more than a 9pm one?+

Because of who is awake. Gulf Standard Time is UTC+4, so a 5pm lesson in the UAE is 1pm in Britain in winter and British classroom teachers are still teaching. It is 6.30pm in India and 9pm in Singapore. By 9pm in the UAE the British pool has opened up and the Indian pool is still working, so supply widens and the rate eases. Early-evening UAE slots are the ones every local family wants and the smallest pool can cover, which is where a premium appears. Ask for 7.30pm or 8pm and the same specialist often costs less.

Can two children share one online session and split the cost?+

Siblings or classmates can share a screen where both take the same subject at the same level and are on roughly the same ground. Two students in one 60-minute slot roughly halves the cost per student, and each still works with a named specialist. What it costs is talking time: a paired session gives each child perhaps 25 minutes of direct attention instead of 55. Pairing works well for paper technique and content revision. It works poorly for coursework, because the Internal Assessment is individual work and each student's file has to be read on its own.

Can an online tutor help with Visual Arts, Music or Arabic script?+

Yes, with different mechanics in each case. Visual Arts work is photographed and shared, and the session goes at the comparative study and the process portfolio rather than at the making. Music depends on audio quality: a wired connection and the student's own recording, reviewed together. Arabic and Islamic Education need handwriting, so the student writes on paper under a phone camera, or on a tablet with a stylus. What cannot be reproduced on a screen is a kiln or a laboratory bench, so practical science is taught around the data, the method and the alternative-to-practical paper instead.

What happens to the money if we cancel a lesson a few hours before it starts?+

Settle this before the first invoice, because the answer varies by provider and it is where most disputes begin. Online sessions are commonly billable inside a 12 to 24-hour window and movable outside it, which is one practical advantage of the format: a slot that cannot be used on Tuesday can often be used on Thursday. A visiting tutor usually bills in full once they have set off, reasonably enough. Ask three things in writing: the notice period in hours, whether a cancelled hour can be rescheduled within the month, and who keeps your weekly slot if you pause.

Should we pay per session or buy a prepaid block of hours?+

Pay per session until you are sure of the match, then buy a block only if the discount is real and the terms are written down. A block is money handed over for teaching not yet delivered, so three questions decide it: when the hours expire, whether they transfer between siblings or subjects, and what happens if that tutor becomes unavailable. Monthly packages advertised in the UAE market sit near AED 799 for eight online sessions, against AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits. The saving is real and so is the lock-in. Start with the free trial lesson and one paid month.

If we can only afford ten hours, where should they go?+

Into the places where marks are concentrated and a second reader changes the outcome. For most Diploma students that means three or four hours on the Internal Assessment while the draft is still changeable, three hours on the paper the student is weakest at with real past-paper questions marked inside the session, and two hours on technique: command terms, timing and what a markscheme actually rewards. Keep one hour back for the week before the first paper. Spending all ten on content revision the student could do alone from the subject guide is the commonest way a budget is wasted.

How do we tell whether the hour was taught well or just talked through?+

Ask for evidence that the hour happened. A well-run session leaves three things behind: a note of what was covered, the marked work it was built on, and a task with a date. Inside the hour, listen for who is doing the work. If the tutor talks for fifty minutes and your child says twelve words, no marks moved. The simplest test arrives later, with the next piece of marked work from school. If a specific error the tutor named is still recurring four weeks on, either the diagnosis was wrong or it never reached the student's hand.

May we record the lessons, and is a recording worth paying for?+

Ask first, because a recording captures a named tutor and a minor, so both sides should agree to it in writing and it should be stored where only your family can reach it. Where it is agreed, recordings earn their keep in method-heavy subjects: a worked calculus question or a titration calculation is genuinely worth re-watching. They earn very little in discussion subjects. What a recording cannot replace is the notes the student makes during the hour, and families who lean on the recording instead of writing anything down tend to re-watch nothing at all.

Does the MoHRE private tuition permit apply to a tutor teaching over video?+

The private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 covers people providing private tuition in the UAE, and MoHRE grants it free of charge for two years to registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Anyone tutoring inside the country without one is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published. A specialist teaching from outside the UAE is not performing work in the country, so ask where the tutor is based and check the current position on mohre.gov.ae.

We live in Fujairah with no IB school nearby. Does online tuition change what we pay?+

It changes what is available, which is the bigger number. Private schools in Fujairah, Ajman and Umm Al Quwain are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education, and the local pool of Diploma specialists is thin: an in-home Higher Level Chemistry tutor may simply not exist within an hour's drive, and where one does the travel sits inside the rate. Online, a Fujairah family chooses from the same specialists a Dubai family does, at the same market rate, and the only real constraint is agreeing a Gulf Standard Time slot. That is the practical case for the format outside the two largest emirates.

How many weeks of online tuition does a Diploma student usually need before the mocks?+

Count backwards rather than forwards. Mocks normally sit in the term before the May session, so a student starting in September has roughly twelve to fourteen teaching weeks, which at one hour a week is twelve to fourteen hours - enough to fix one subject properly, not three. A student starting in January has six or seven weeks and should buy a shorter, denser block aimed at a single paper. There is no honest formula here. The useful question is how many marks sit in the topics the student cannot do, and your child's teacher can usually name them.
