IGCSE Home Tutor in Jebel Ali

Hiring an IGCSE home tutor in Jebel Ali looks different depending on which side of the Jebel Ali interchange you live on, and parents comparing Al Furjan, Discovery Gardens, Green Community and Dubai South quotes get three different numbers for the same lesson. This page sets the four communities side by side. IB Gram teaches live, one-to-one, online, on Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Jebel Ali

Four communities, one answer: why the Jebel Ali comparison keeps ending in the same place

Families in this part of Dubai do their tutoring research by comparison. A parent in Jebel Ali Village asks friends in Al Furjan what they pay. Someone in Green Community gets a quote and checks it against Discovery Gardens. A family that has just moved to Dubai South discovers that the agency which happily serves Al Furjan will not take a booking that far out, or will only take it at a higher rate.

The comparison is worth doing, because the quotes genuinely differ. What surprises most parents is where the difference comes from. It is not teaching quality and it is not the exam board. It is the drive. Jebel Ali sits at the industrial western end of Dubai, wrapped around the port and the free zone, and the residential communities around it are spread out. A tutor living in Mirdif or Al Barsha and taking a 5pm booking in Emaar South is committing to a round trip that eats the evening.

That drive gets priced, and it gets priced in two ways. The visible way is the hourly rate: Dubai rate guides put in-home one-to-one at AED 180-350 and independent home tutors as high as AED 500, against AED 150-300 for a qualified subject tutor teaching online. The invisible way is choice. A family in Jebel Ali choosing an in-home tutor is choosing from the people willing to drive there, which for Cambridge Chemistry 0620 or Edexcel Further Pure Maths is a very short list.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE. Home tutoring is a service we run only in India, and we say so near the top of the page rather than at the bottom of a terms link. For Jebel Ali and Dubai South families, lessons are live, one-to-one and over video on Gulf Standard Time, with screen sharing so the tutor and student annotate the same past-paper question together.

The effect of that on the comparison is simple and it is the point of this page. Once the tutor is not driving, Jebel Ali Village, Al Furjan, Discovery Gardens, Green Community, Dubai Investments Park, Dubai South and Emaar South become the same place. The same Cambridge 0580 specialist is available to all of them, at the same time, at the same rate. The neighbourhood question stops being a constraint on who can teach your child.

What still differs between these communities is the school set, the exam board in use, and what time a session can realistically start given the school run. Those are covered below, with the board comparison, the AED table and the examination calendar counted backwards from the series your child is actually entered for. Read the board comparison first; it is the one that most often turns out to have been the real problem all along.

Cambridge IGCSE

Subject-coded qualifications such as Mathematics 0580, Chemistry 0620, Physics 0625 and Biology 0610, graded 9-1 or A*-G depending on the subject and the school's choice. Most subjects offer a Core and an Extended route, and the Core route caps the attainable grade. Cambridge runs exams in a June series and a November series, with centres allocated to one of six administrative zones.

Several schools in the Jebel Ali and Dubai Investments Park set run Cambridge. The zone rule matters here: Cambridge states that every centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones and that it is essential to use the correct timetable version, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong zone timetable.

PEARSONAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Codes such as Mathematics A 4MA1, Physics 4PH1, Chemistry 4CH1 and Biology 4BI1, graded 9-1, with Foundation and Higher tiers in the tiered subjects. Exams run in a May/June window and a November window each year. Pearson publishes provisional timetables well ahead of each series and revises them, so the live PDF is the only safe reference.

Pearson's recent UAE-relevant dates are checkable: the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. That January gap is the detail that catches out families planning a sixth-form application.

DP/ALEVELAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

What comes after: IB Diploma or A Level

The IGCSE year ends in a branch. The IB Diploma takes six subjects plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service, graded out of 45. A Levels take three or four subjects in depth. The choice is made during Year 11, usually before the IGCSE results arrive, on predicted grades.

Within this catchment both routes are available without leaving the area: Greenfield International School and Fairgreen International School run IB programmes, Sunmarke School offers the Diploma alongside a UK route, and The Winchester School Jebel Ali and Dove Green Private School run the A-Level path. The decision is therefore a curriculum decision rather than a relocation decision.

CHECKPOINTAges 11-14 · Years 7-9

Cambridge Lower Secondary

The two years before IGCSE, with optional Checkpoint tests Cambridge runs in March, May and October. Nothing here appears on a school-leaving certificate, which is exactly why gaps formed in Years 8 and 9 surface as unexplained IGCSE underperformance in Year 10.

Families in Al Furjan and Green Community often start tutoring in Year 9 for this reason, once they have seen a Checkpoint report. It is the cheapest point of intervention in the whole school career, because fixing algebraic fluency at 13 costs a term and fixing it at 16 costs a grade.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the IGCSE subjects most requested across the Jebel Ali and Dubai South communities, with the syllabus code and the part of the specification where marks actually go missing.

Mathematics

Cambridge 0580 Core and Extended; Edexcel 4MA1 Foundation and Higher

Core candidates sit Papers 1 and 3; Extended candidates sit Papers 2 and 4. Edexcel 4MA1 runs two papers of equal weight. Marks are lost on unwritten method lines and on rounding at an intermediate step rather than at the end.

Physics

Cambridge 0625; Edexcel 4PH1

Electricity and circuits is the recurring weak topic, followed by moments and pressure. Students who can recite a formula but cannot rearrange it under time pressure lose the second half of every multi-part question.

Chemistry

Cambridge 0620; Edexcel 4CH1

Moles calculations and organic chemistry carry the difficulty. The practical paper rewards precision about apparatus and about why a particular step controls a variable, which is rarely taught explicitly in class.

Biology

Cambridge 0610; Edexcel 4BI1

Content-heavy and command-term sensitive. The difference between "state", "describe" and "explain" decides whether a six-mark answer earns two marks or five, and the fix is drills rather than revision.

English as a First Language

Cambridge 0500; Edexcel 4EA1

Directed writing and the reading passages paper. Marks go to candidates who write for the specified audience and form; a strong essay in the wrong register scores below a competent one in the right one.

English as a Second Language

Cambridge 0510 and 0511

Reading, writing, listening and an assessed speaking component. Very common in this catchment given the mix of home languages, and the writing mark rises fastest with structured paragraph planning.

Economics and Business Studies

Cambridge 0455 and 0450

Diagram accuracy in Economics and case-study discipline in Business Studies. The highest-tariff questions ask for evaluation, and candidates who list advantages and disadvantages without reaching a judgement cap themselves.

Computer Science and ICT

Cambridge 0478 and 0417

Pseudocode, data representation and the practical ICT tasks. Students who code confidently in Python still lose theory marks on binary, hexadecimal and network concepts, which are examined in prose.

Additional Mathematics and Further Pure

Cambridge 0606; Edexcel 4PM1

Taken alongside the main maths course by students heading for Higher Level maths or A-Level Further Maths. Narrow tutor pool locally, which is precisely where online matching changes the available choice.

Arabic

Cambridge 0508 and 0544; school-set MoE streams

Required in Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum, with KHDA mandating separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language. A tutor must know which stream your child sits before the first lesson.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, chosen by how far your child is from the series they are entered for and whether the gap is content, tiering or technique.

Weekly subject tuition against the syllabus code

One tutor, one subject, one fixed slot, working from the specific syllabus your child's centre entered them for. The code matters: a tutor preparing a student for Edexcel 4MA1 on Cambridge 0580 material wastes a term on topics the paper will not ask about.

  • Syllabus code confirmed before the first lesson
  • Sequence follows the school's scheme of work
  • 60 or 90 minutes, same tutor and slot each week
  • Written note after every session

Tier and route review

A short block for Year 10 families deciding between Core and Extended, or Foundation and Higher. The decision caps or releases the attainable grade, and it is often made on a single internal assessment taken at the wrong moment of the year.

  • Diagnostic paper at both tiers
  • Honest statement of the grade ceiling each route sets
  • What the sixth-form route requires as an entry grade
  • A recommendation in writing you can take to the school

Timed-paper blocks before a series

Intensive work in the weeks before mocks or the live series, built on timed papers marked against the official scheme. Diagnostic rather than revision: the point is to find the two or three repeated habits costing marks and remove them.

  • Full papers under real timing
  • Marked against the published scheme, not self-marked
  • A ranked list of mark-losing habits
  • Official past-paper sources linked, never redistributed

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Jebel Ali

01

What the Jebel Ali quote and the Al Furjan quote are actually measuring

Put two in-home quotes side by side and the difference is almost always distance. Both tutors teach the same syllabus. One lives twelve minutes from Al Furjan and one is coming from across the city to Emaar South. The second quote is higher, offers fewer possible slots, and carries a higher chance of a cancelled lesson, and none of that reflects on either tutor.

This is why neighbourhood comparison shopping produces confusing results in this part of Dubai. A parent concludes that Dubai South is an expensive place to get tutoring, when what they have actually discovered is that Dubai South is a long way from where most tutors live. The qualification being bought is identical. The qualification your child sits does not change by postcode, and neither does the mark scheme that will be applied to their paper in August.

There is a second, quieter effect. In a community where only a handful of tutors will travel, the parent takes what is available. A Year 11 needing Cambridge Chemistry 0620 ends up with a general science tutor because that is who said yes. The specification difference between a general science background and 0620 mole calculations shows up in the mocks, not in the first month.

Once lessons are delivered live online, both effects disappear at once. There is no drive to price and no drive to limit the list. Every community in this cluster gets the same pool. That is the entire argument of this page, and the tables below put numbers against it.

Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel: the differences that change a lesson plan

Parents in this cluster routinely discover halfway through Year 11 that the neighbour's child sits a different board. Both are International GCSEs, both are accepted by UAE and overseas universities, and they are not interchangeable in the classroom. The paper structures differ, the tiering differs, and some topics sit in one specification and not the other.

Cambridge divides most subjects into Core and Extended, with Core candidates sitting one pair of papers and Extended candidates another, and the Core route carries a lower grade ceiling. Pearson uses Foundation and Higher tiers in the tiered subjects, with Mathematics A 4MA1 running two equally weighted papers. For a tutor, that means a different past-paper diet and a different sequence of topics.

The administrative differences matter too. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and warns that using the wrong zone's timetable can cost a candidate their exam, stating that it cannot accept responsibility in that case. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series and then revises them, which is why any page restating dates rather than linking the live PDF is a hazard rather than a help.

The first question we ask a Jebel Ali or Al Furjan family is therefore not "which subject" but "which code". If you do not know, your child's exam entry statement does, and so does the subject page on the school's curriculum section. Getting this wrong costs a term of preparation aimed at the wrong paper.

The IGCSE market in AED, read from the monthly cost upward

Most families in this cluster do not budget by the hour. They budget by the month, because that is how the school fee arrives and that is what the household plan has room for. So read the market from the monthly end first, then check the hourly figure against it.

Dubai rate guidance published for 2026 puts a weekly one-hour session at roughly AED 240-600 a month at the budget end, AED 600-1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000-2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support. Published packages seen in the market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. Those two numbers are the comparison in miniature: roughly double the monthly cost for half the number of visits.

The hourly bands behind those monthly figures, as published in October 2026: EdFlik advertises from AED 45-65 and Tutopiya from about AED 33-52 at the budget end; Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB from AED 200 online; Dubai rate guides put in-home one-to-one at AED 180-350 with independent home tutors to AED 500; TutorChase quotes around AED 270 for specialist work and one premium provider, BartyED, publishes AED 650.

None of these are IB Gram prices and we do not publish a rate card on this page, because the fee depends on subject and level and is quoted after the free trial lesson. What the bands are for is judgement. A quote of AED 500 an hour for Cambridge 0580 in Al Furjan is at the top of the in-home band for a subject with the widest tutor supply in the market, and you are entitled to ask what the premium buys.

Core or Extended, Foundation or Higher: the decision that sets the ceiling

  • Core and Foundation cap the attainable grade; this is the point of them
  • Decide on a marked timed paper at each route, not on classwork impressions
  • Unwritten method and rounding errors are habits, not evidence of the wrong tier
  • Read the sixth-form entry grade before confirming the entry
  • A tier change usually has a school deadline; ask when it is

This is the single most consequential academic decision in the IGCSE years and it is frequently made badly, usually in the wrong direction. A Year 10 student has a poor term, the school suggests the Core route to protect the grade, and the family agrees because it sounds like safety. The grade ceiling that comes with it only becomes visible when the sixth-form entry requirement arrives eighteen months later.

The honest framing is that Core and Foundation exist for students for whom the Extended or Higher paper would produce a very low grade, and for those students they are the right choice. They are not a revision strategy and they are not a stress-management tool. If a student is capable of the higher route with support, moving down to protect a term's confidence trades a short-term comfort for a long-term constraint.

The way to decide is with evidence rather than impression. Sit a timed paper at each route, have it marked against the official scheme, and look at what the marks say rather than how the hour felt. A student who scores low on the Extended paper because of unwritten method and rounding errors is not a Core candidate; they are an Extended candidate with two fixable habits. A student who cannot access the questions at all is a different case, and the marking makes the difference obvious.

Then check the destination. A sixth form offering the IB Diploma or A Level Mathematics will have a stated entry grade, and some of those grades are not reachable from the Core route at all. Make the tier decision after reading the entry requirement, not before.

05

The examination calendar, counted backwards from the series your child sits

UAE candidates sit Cambridge IGCSE in the June series and the November series. The February/March series is offered to India only, and a page telling a Dubai parent otherwise has handed them a date they will act on and a deadline that does not apply. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in a May/June window and a November window.

The useful way to read a calendar is backwards from the paper, because every milestone that matters sits months earlier. Final entries close well before the exams. Mocks land a term ahead. Coursework and practical components, where the subject has them, close earlier still. By the time a family starts worrying, two of those doors have usually closed.

Checkable Pearson dates give the shape of it. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026. November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026 - a four-week gap into the new year that catches families who assumed a November resit would be confirmed before the spring sixth-form deadlines.

Two practical rules follow. Work from the live official timetable on cambridgeinternational.org or qualifications.pearson.com rather than from any date restated on a tutoring page, including this one. And ask your centre which Cambridge administrative zone it sits in, because Cambridge allocates each centre to one of six and states plainly that it cannot accept responsibility for a candidate who misses an exam after using the wrong zone's timetable.

What UAE Ministry of Education equivalency actually requires of an IGCSE student

Families in this catchment planning a UAE university application need equivalency for the school-leaving certificate, and the British-track rule is published and specific. It is also widely misstated: one ranking page in this market tells UAE parents they need six IGCSE subjects, which is not what the published requirement says.

For the British track, students must show five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus either one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than grade E or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects, which is the detail families most often get wrong in the other direction.

The American track is different again: English proficiency is evidenced by a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying. For the IB, no points threshold appears in the source we read, so we do not publish one, and you should treat any page that does with caution until you have read it on moe.gov.ae.

Two boundaries worth stating plainly. Equivalency is a Ministry process and IB Gram neither performs it nor influences it; we describe it and point you to the official channel. And tutoring is not a requirement for equivalency, university admission or school progression. Any page implying otherwise is manufacturing urgency about a regulatory process.

Online one-to-one from a Dubai South or Jebel Ali address, with the limitations named

The case for online delivery in this cluster is unusually strong, and it is strongest in exactly the communities where in-home service is weakest. A family in Emaar South comparing an online specialist against an in-home generalist is not making a close call. A family in Al Furjan, where in-home supply is decent, has a genuine choice to make.

What online gives you is the full specialist pool, a session that can start at 4pm rather than 5.30pm, and a shared screen on which tutor and student annotate the same past-paper question at the same time. For diagnostic work - reading a marked script, counting where the marks went, rebuilding a method line - the shared screen is better than a single paper copy passed across a table.

The limitations are real and we would rather you heard them from us. A student who will not sit at a desk without an adult in the room does better with a person there. Children under about ten lose attention faster on a screen than in company. A weak connection shortens a lesson in practice even when the clock says otherwise. And a household where the only quiet space is shared - common in Discovery Gardens apartments - needs the slot planned around siblings rather than around the tutor.

IB Gram offers no home visits in the UAE, so if your child is in one of those cases you should hire locally and you should ask the tutor for their MoHRE private tuition permit before the first lesson. That is a better outcome than us taking a booking we are the wrong fit for.

08

Where the boundary sits on coursework, and how to start

  • Send the subject, the syllabus code and a marked paper to start
  • A tutor explains criteria and marks drafts; the student writes every sentence
  • We link official past papers rather than distributing copies
  • Free one-to-one trial lesson, online, no card details required
  • If no specialist is free at your hour, we say so rather than substituting

IGCSE carries less assessed coursework than the IB Diploma, but where a component exists - a practical investigation, a speaking assessment, a piece of directed writing submitted for assessment - the same rule applies as anywhere else. A tutor teaches, explains the criteria, and gives feedback on the student's own work. A tutor does not write it, redraft it into their own prose, or complete it.

This market contains services selling finished coursework, with one advertising completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750. Submitting bought work is a malpractice matter that can cost a student the qualification, and no price makes that a reasonable risk. We also do not host or distribute board papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables, because they are copyright material; we link the official sources instead.

Starting is deliberately short. Send the subject, the syllabus code if you have it, the school, and a photograph of the most recent marked paper. The code tells us which specification to prepare; the marked paper tells us where the marks went, which is almost never where the student thinks. A specialist in that subject then runs a free one-to-one trial lesson online and writes up what the script showed.

If no suitable specialist has a slot at the hour you want, we will say so and offer the real alternatives: a different weekday with the right tutor, a short block until a regular slot opens, or an honest recommendation to look elsewhere. Nobody in this market publishes what happens when they cannot help, which is reason enough to put it on the page.

Where we tutor

Jebel Ali against the communities next door

These are the communities a Jebel Ali family compares itself against when it asks what tutoring should cost. The school run, the housing type and the drive differ; the tutor pool, once delivery is online, does not.

Jebel Ali Village

Older low-rise housing beside the port and free zone. Internal journeys are short; anything towards central Dubai means Sheikh Zayed Road at the worst hour of the day.

Al Furjan

Townhouses and villas with metro access and its own school set. The densest source of Year 10 and 11 tutoring requests in this cluster, mostly maths and the separate sciences.

Discovery Gardens

High-density apartments with a very mixed population. English as a Second Language and maths dominate the requests, and quiet study space is a genuine scheduling constraint.

Green Community

Low-rise villas inside Dubai Investments Park, a short walk or drive from several schools. Families here often have the shortest school run in the whole cluster.

Dubai Investments Park

Holds much of the catchment's school capacity across UK, American, SABIS and IB routes. Siblings in one family frequently sit different curricula here.

Dubai South

Newest and most spread out, built around the Expo site and Al Maktoum airport. In-home tutors either decline bookings here or price the distance in.

Emaar South

Golf-course villas deep inside Dubai South. A 4pm in-home start is not realistic from most of Dubai, which makes the online comparison one-sided rather than close.

Dubai Production City

Mixed residential and business district on the cluster's eastern edge, feeding both the Jebel Ali and Motor City school sets depending on the year group.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Jebel Ali

The Jebel Ali and Dubai Investments Park school set

This is the core of the catchment and it is deliberately mixed. One street can send children to a UK-curriculum IGCSE school, a CBSE school and a SABIS school, which is why a parent comparing notes with a neighbour is often comparing two different qualifications.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Tell us the syllabus code

Cambridge 0580 and Edexcel 4MA1 are different papers for the same subject name. The code is on the exam entry statement and the school's curriculum pages, and confirming it before the first lesson prevents a term aimed at the wrong specification.

  2. 02

    Send one marked paper

A photograph of the most recent marked assessment does more than a conversation about the term. It shows whether marks were lost to missing content, to method lines never written down, or to command terms answered at the wrong depth.

  3. 03

    Match on subject and board

A specialist in that subject on that board. Mathematics and the separate sciences usually match within a day; Additional Mathematics, Further Pure and Arabic first-language streams can take two or three, and we tell you which case you are in.

  4. 04

    Free diagnostic trial lesson

A real lesson online and one-to-one, built around the marked paper, ending in a written note of what the script showed and what the first month should target. No card details and no package to commit to beforehand.

Fixed weekly slot, reviewed each term

The same tutor at the same Gulf Standard Time each week, with the plan reviewed against mocks and the live series. Slots shift for Ramadan and examination weeks, which is a calendar change rather than a renegotiation of anyone's commute.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Your community stops limiting the tutor list

Dubai South, Emaar South and Jebel Ali Village are poorly served by in-home tutoring simply because of distance. Online delivery hands those families the same specialist pool that Al Furjan already has, without the travel premium priced into the rate.

The syllabus code leads the match

We confirm whether your child sits Cambridge 0620 or Edexcel 4CH1 before a tutor is assigned, because the specifications differ topic by topic and the past-paper diet is not interchangeable between them.

Rates quoted with their source and month

Every AED figure here is attributed to the provider or rate guide that published it and dated October 2026. Three of the pages ranking for this search publish no price at all, and the two that do quote US dollars.

Dates linked, not restated

Cambridge warns that the wrong zone timetable can cost a candidate an exam, and Pearson revises provisional timetables. We give the shape of the calendar and send you to the official PDF rather than publishing dates that go stale.

Clear about what we are not

No UAE office, no home visits in the UAE, and no claim of KHDA, ADEK, MoE, MoHRE, Cambridge or Pearson approval, accreditation or partnership, because we hold none of them.

Coursework help with a hard edge

Tutors explain criteria, teach method and mark drafts. They do not write or complete assessed work. Services in this market selling finished coursework expose the student to a malpractice finding, and that is not a risk worth any saving.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Jebel Ali: your questions answered

Do tutors travel to homes in Jebel Ali, and should we pay for that?+

Local agencies do serve Jebel Ali, and Dubai rate guidance puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180-350 per hour, with independent home tutors advertising up to AED 500. The travel sits inside that figure. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Whether the premium is worth paying depends on your child. For a student who needs an adult present to start work, it probably is. For a Year 11 needing Cambridge 0620 mole calculations, the specialist matters more than the presence.

Why is a tutoring quote for Dubai South higher than one for Al Furjan?+

Distance, almost always. Al Furjan has reasonable in-home tutor supply because it is close to where many tutors live and has metro access. Dubai South and Emaar South are a long drive from most of the city, so tutors either decline bookings there or price the journey in, and they offer fewer possible slots. The teaching and the qualification are identical. Once lessons are delivered live online there is no journey to price, which is why the same specialist is available to both communities at the same rate and the same hour.

Which IGCSE exam board does my child's school in this area use?+

It varies within a single street, and sometimes within a single child's timetable, because schools can enter different subjects with different boards. The answer is on your child's exam entry statement, which lists the syllabus code: 0580 and 0620 are Cambridge, 4MA1 and 4CH1 are Pearson Edexcel. The school's curriculum pages usually state it as well. Ask before booking a tutor, because the specifications differ topic by topic and a term spent on the wrong past papers is a term that cannot be recovered in Year 11.

Which IGCSE series will my child in Jebel Ali be entered for?+

Cambridge candidates in the UAE sit the June series and the November series. The February/March series is offered in India only, so any page quoting a February exam window or a late-November entry deadline to a Dubai family is giving you a date from another country. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in a May/June window and a November window. Always confirm against the live official timetable, and ask your centre which of Cambridge's six administrative zones it sits in, because the zone determines which timetable version applies to your child.

Should my child take the Core or the Extended route?+

Decide it on a marked timed paper at each route rather than on how the term has felt. Core and Foundation set a lower grade ceiling, which is the right choice for a student who cannot access the higher paper at all and the wrong choice as a confidence measure. A student losing Extended marks to unwritten method lines and premature rounding is an Extended candidate with two fixable habits. Check the sixth-form entry grade before confirming, because some IB Diploma and A Level maths entry requirements are not reachable from the Core route.

How many subjects does the Ministry of Education count for a Jebel Ali IGCSE student?+

Five. The published British-track requirement is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at no less than grade E or grade 3, plus one accredited Advanced Level subject at grade E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five. One page ranking in this market tells UAE parents the figure is six, which is not what the published rule says. Verify the current requirement through the Ministry of Education before you rely on it for an application.

What does an online IGCSE lesson from Green Community look like in practice?+

A video call at a fixed Gulf Standard Time slot, one tutor and one student, with a shared screen carrying either the student's marked script or a past-paper question both can annotate. The tutor works through the question with the student writing, not watching. Sessions run 60 or 90 minutes, and a short written note afterwards records what was covered and what to do before the next one. For diagnostic work the shared screen is better than a paper copy, because both people are looking at the same mark line at the same moment.

Is online tuition really cheaper than a home tutor in this part of Dubai?+

On published figures, yes, and the gap is mostly travel. Qualified online subject tutors in Dubai are advertised from around AED 150-300 per hour, while in-home one-to-one sits at AED 180-350 with independent tutors to AED 500. Monthly packages tell the same story: around AED 799 for eight online sessions against AED 1,599-1,799 for four in-home visits. Those are market figures published in October 2026, not IB Gram prices. The saving is real, but the bigger difference for an exam-year student is usually the width of the specialist pool.

Can a tutor help with my child's IGCSE practical or coursework component?+

Yes, within a clear boundary. A tutor can teach the method, explain what the assessment criteria reward, discuss why a step controls a variable, and give feedback on the student's own write-up. A tutor cannot write it, redraft it into their own words or complete it. Services in this market sell finished coursework, one of them advertising completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750, and submitting bought work risks the qualification itself. Practical procedures happen in the school laboratory under the teacher's supervision, as the specification requires.

Is a MoHRE permit needed to tutor a Year 11 privately in Jebel Ali?+

Yes. The UAE requires a private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and issued through MoHRE, and the UAE government states it is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and students aged 15 to 18. Individuals tutoring without one face fines and penalties under the applicable laws, with no published schedule. Ask any independent tutor directly before the first lesson; because it costs nothing to hold, a straight answer is a fair expectation.

My child is in Year 11 with mocks in a few weeks. What is worth doing now?+

A timed-paper cycle rather than more content. Sit one full paper under real timing, have it marked against the official scheme by someone who is not the student, and turn the marking into a ranked list of repeated habits. Most students lose a consistent five to fifteen marks a paper to three or four habits: skipped method lines, rounding at intermediate steps, command terms answered too shallowly, and questions abandoned after the first part. Habits move in weeks. A year of missed content does not, and an honest tutor will tell you which you have.

Can we use one tutor for both of our children in different year groups?+

Sometimes, and it depends on the distance between them. One maths specialist can reasonably hold a Year 9 and a Year 11 on the same board, because the content is continuous. A Year 7 and a Year 11 are different jobs with different pacing, and a Core-route Year 10 and an Extended-route Year 11 need different past-paper diets even in the same subject. Each child gets their own slot in any case, since these are one-to-one lessons. Tell us both year groups at the enquiry stage and we will say honestly whether one tutor fits.

Do you offer lessons in Arabic for the Dubai mandatory subject requirement?+

We cover Arabic streams, and the first step is identifying which one your child sits. KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and it mandates separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, stating that combined classes are strictly prohibited because expectations and language of instruction differ. KHDA also requires schools to ensure teachers of these subjects hold appropriate KHDA approval. Tell us the stream and the school's scheme of work.

What happens to our weekly slot during Ramadan?+

It moves, and we plan the move rather than improvising it. School hours shorten during Ramadan and household evenings reorganise around iftar, so a 5pm weekday slot usually becomes either early afternoon or post-iftar for the month. Because no tutor is travelling to an address, shifting a slot is a calendar change rather than a renegotiation of someone's commute, and it can shift back afterwards just as easily. Families with a live series approaching usually keep the frequency and change only the hour, which is the arrangement that holds up best.

What if the tutor we start with is the wrong fit for our Year 11?+

Say so after the first or second session rather than waiting a term. The usual cause is pace rather than competence: a tutor pitched for a confident Extended candidate working with a student who needs the method rebuilt from Year 9, or the reverse. We change the tutor rather than asking the student to adapt, and the written session notes make the mismatch easy to describe precisely. The free trial lesson exists for this reason, which is why it is a diagnostic lesson with a written outcome rather than an introductory call.

Compare the communities, then stop letting geography pick the tutor

If you have been comparing what an IGCSE home tutor in Jebel Ali costs against quotes from Al Furjan, Green Community or Dubai South, the pattern you have found is a travel premium rather than a quality difference. Send us the subject, the syllabus code and a photograph of your child's last marked paper. A specialist on that board reads the script, names where the marks went, and teaches a free one-to-one trial lesson online at a Gulf Standard Time slot that suits the school run. You get the written diagnosis either way. After that it is a fixed weekly slot with the same tutor, reviewed against the mocks and the series your child is actually entered for.
