IB Chemistry Tutor in Jebel Ali

An IB chemistry tutor in Jebel Ali is most useful when they arrive before the cliff rather than after it. Diploma chemistry has two: energetics and bonding in the first year, organic mechanisms in the second. Both are teachable in advance and expensive to repair late. IB Gram matches a chemistry specialist and teaches live, one-to-one, over video on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Work timed to the two points where Diploma chemistry breaks
  • Mechanism drills: arrow origin, conditions and reagent, every time
  • Live one-to-one online; laboratory work stays with the school
  • Free diagnostic trial lesson on a marked script or draft

IB & IGCSE in Jebel Ali

Diploma chemistry has two cliffs, and they arrive on schedule

Chemistry grades in the Diploma are decided at two predictable moments, and both are visible a term in advance. The first comes early in the course, when bonding and energetics stop being descriptive and start being quantitative. The second comes in the second year, when organic chemistry arrives and the subject becomes a set of mechanisms with conventions that have to be drawn exactly right. Students who were comfortable before each cliff are frequently not comfortable after it.

Because both are scheduled rather than random, they can be worked in advance. That is the whole argument for timing chemistry tutoring to the calendar instead of to the crisis. A family that starts six weeks before organic chemistry is taught is buying preparation. A family that starts six weeks after it was taught is buying repair, which takes longer and costs more, and competes for the weeks the investigation and the mocks have already claimed.

The other fixed edges are the internally assessed scientific investigation, which has a school-set deadline, and the mock window a term before the papers. In the final eight weeks nothing new should be taught, because new content there displaces the timed practice that converts knowledge into marks. Those four edges - two cliffs, one deadline, one mock window - are the whole plan.

There is a third edge that only chemistry families meet, and it is the reason the investigation deserves its own planning. A chemistry investigation depends on what the school laboratory physically holds: a reagent, a concentration, a balance with enough resolution. A research question that looks elegant on paper and cannot be run with the available apparatus is discovered during the practical session rather than during the design, and the substitute question written in a hurry is the one that costs the evaluation marks.

Geography is why this page also talks about delivery. Jebel Ali sits at the industrial western end of Dubai, around the port and the free zone, with its residential communities spread through Al Furjan, Discovery Gardens, Dubai Investments Park, Green Community, Dubai South and Emaar South. A Higher Level chemistry specialist willing to drive to any of those at 5pm is a rare thing, and the further south the address, the rarer.

IB Gram teaches live, one-to-one, over video on Gulf Standard Time. We do not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. For chemistry that format works well, because mechanism teaching is drawing on a shared surface and investigation work is reading a document together. Laboratory work stays at school under the teacher's supervision, as the IB requires.

A note on dates. Cambridge and Pearson publish their timetables and we cite them where relevant. IB session and results dates cannot be confirmed from the IB by automated means, so this page names the May session as the one UAE schools sit and publishes no specific IB examination or results date. The internal deadlines, which matter more to the plan, come from your school's Diploma coordinator.

At a glance

  • Cliff one: bonding and energetics turning quantitative in the first year
  • Cliff two: organic mechanisms in the second year, where conventions decide marks
  • The investigation deadline and the mock window are both school-set and collide
  • No new chemistry should be taught in the final eight weeks
  • No IB Gram home visits in the UAE; in-home tutoring runs only in India
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three stages generate chemistry requests from this catchment, and what is at stake differs completely between them. Only the Diploma ends in externally marked papers.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme Chemistry

Available at Higher and Standard Level, organised around structure and reactivity: particulate models, bonding, classification of matter, energetics, kinetics, equilibrium, acids and bases, redox and organic chemistry, with Higher Level extensions throughout. Assessment combines externally marked papers with an internally assessed scientific investigation moderated by the IB.

Most Jebel Ali chemistry candidates come from an IGCSE background where moles calculations were procedural and organic chemistry was a short unit of names and uses. The Diploma treats organic chemistry as mechanism and energetics as calculation, and that shift rather than the volume of content is what the first Diploma report usually reflects.

COREAges 16-19 · Across both Diploma years

The scientific investigation and the Diploma core

The investigation is the internally assessed component, marked against criteria covering research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation, and carrying a substantial share of the subject grade; confirm the current weighting in your school's subject guide. Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service compete for the same weeks.

Chemistry investigations in this catchment fail most often on feasibility: a research question that needs apparatus or reagents the school laboratory does not hold, discovered late, leaving a rushed substitute. Checking feasibility with the teacher before the question is finalised is a thirty-minute conversation that saves a term.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

MYP Sciences

Assessed against four criteria lettered A to D, each out of eight, covering knowledge and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. There is no external paper for most students, so the record is a set of criterion judgements rather than percentages.

MYP 5 students in Al Furjan and Green Community heading for Diploma chemistry usually arrive with good inquiry habits and shaky quantitative work. Mole arithmetic, unit conversion and rearranging relationships are what the Diploma assumes from the first fortnight, and the MYP does not require them at speed.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the parts of Diploma chemistry that generate requests from this part of Dubai, with the specific error each one produces on a marked script.

Moles and stoichiometry

HL and SL

The arithmetic underneath everything else. Marks go on set-up order rather than on calculation: students who convert to moles last instead of first produce a correct-looking answer from the wrong ratio and lose the whole question.

Bonding and structure

HL and SL

Intermolecular forces, shapes and the link between structure and physical property. The commonest loss is naming a force without explaining its effect, because the command term asked for a consequence rather than a label.

Energetics and thermochemistry

HL and SL

Enthalpy cycles, bond enthalpies and calorimetry. Sign conventions decide marks: an exothermic value written positive invalidates an otherwise flawless cycle, and the error is invisible to the student.

Kinetics and equilibrium

HL and SL

Rate expressions, collision theory and the response of a system to change. Students describe what shifts without explaining why, and the marks sit in the why. Higher Level adds quantitative treatment that punishes vague reasoning.

Acids, bases and redox

HL and SL

pH calculations, buffers at Higher Level, half-equations and electrochemistry. Half-equation balancing is procedural and therefore trainable, and it is one of the fastest mark gains available late in the course.

Organic chemistry

HL and SL

Reaction types, reagents, conditions and mechanisms. An arrow drawn from the wrong atom or bond loses the mark even when the product is right, and that single convention accounts for a large share of Higher Level losses.

Analytical techniques

HL and SL

Spectroscopy and structure determination, where the skill is deduction from several pieces of evidence rather than recall. Students who read one spectrum in isolation miss the combination the question was built around.

The scientific investigation

HL and SL

Internally assessed against criteria covering design, analysis, conclusion and evaluation. Chemistry drafts most often fail on a question the available apparatus cannot answer, or on a conclusion that reports a trend without the chemistry behind it.

Uncertainty and data treatment

HL and SL

Resolution of volumetric glassware, propagation through a titration calculation, and uncertainty on a plotted result. Guessed rather than derived uncertainties cost marks on the papers and in the investigation at once.

Command-term discipline

HL and SL

"State", "outline", "explain", "discuss" and "evaluate" set different depths. A correct chemical fact where "explain" was asked earns part marks at best, because the question wanted the reasoning that connects it.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, chosen by which of the four fixed edges is next rather than by how anxious the household is.

Pre-emptive work ahead of a known unit

Short blocks timed to arrive before energetics or organic chemistry is taught in class. The student meets the conventions once in a calm setting, then meets them again in school with the structure already in place. The cheapest chemistry tutoring there is, and almost nobody buys it.

  • Timed to the school's own scheme of work
  • Conventions taught before content volume arrives
  • Four to six sessions, with a defined end point
  • Checked against the class's first assessment on the unit

Investigation coaching, criterion by criterion

A block around the school-set deadline. The tutor reads the student's own draft against the published criteria, checks feasibility and uncertainty treatment, and tests whether the conclusion follows from the data. The student designs, runs and writes it all.

  • Feasibility checked against what the school laboratory holds
  • Uncertainty derived from glassware resolution, not guessed
  • Conclusion tested against the data actually collected
  • No drafting, rewriting or completion by the tutor

The final run: papers and mechanism drills

Intensive work in the last eight weeks with no new content. Timed papers marked against the official scheme, plus separate mechanism and half-equation drills, because those two are procedural and therefore the fastest marks available late in the course.

  • Full papers under exam timing, including data-based sections
  • Marked externally; self-marking over-rewards
  • Mechanism and half-equation drills every session
  • Official past-paper sources linked rather than distributed

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Jebel Ali

01

The first cliff: when bonding and energetics turn quantitative

Early Diploma chemistry looks like an extension of IGCSE and then stops being one. Bonding moves from naming forces to explaining their quantitative consequences. Energetics moves from describing a reaction as exothermic to constructing an enthalpy cycle in which a single sign error destroys the answer. Students who were comfortable in the first weeks often report the subject becoming hard quite suddenly, and this is where.

Two specific conventions do most of the damage. The first is sign: enthalpy changes carry a sign that encodes direction, and writing an exothermic value positive invalidates a cycle that is otherwise flawless. The student cannot see the error, because every arithmetic step is right. The second is the mole set-up order. Converting to moles last rather than first produces an answer of plausible magnitude from the wrong stoichiometric ratio, and the mark is gone with no visible mistake to find.

Both are mechanical, which is good news: they respond to drilling rather than to understanding. Four sessions of enforced set-up order - masses to moles first, always, before any ratio is applied - removes most of the second problem permanently. Sign conventions take about the same, provided the tutor insists on the sign being written even when the student considers it obvious.

The timing argument matters here. A family that books four sessions in the weeks before energetics is taught in class pays for preparation. A family that books after the first energetics assessment pays for repair, and competes for the same weeks as the investigation. The school's scheme of work is usually available on request, and it tells you when the cliff arrives.

THE FIRST-YEAR CONVENTIONS THAT COST THE MOST MARKS

02

The second cliff: organic chemistry as a set of conventions

Organic chemistry at IGCSE is largely nomenclature, functional groups and uses. In the Diploma it becomes mechanism, and mechanism is drawn rather than written. That change catches out strong students, because the knowledge is present and the marks are allocated to the drawing conventions.

The decisive convention is arrow origin. A curly arrow starts at a lone pair or at a bond, not at an atom label, and not from thin air. An arrow drawn from the wrong place loses the mark even when the product written beside it is correct, because what the examiner is paying for is the movement of electrons. Students who were never told this explicitly draw plausible-looking arrows for a year and cannot understand why mechanism questions keep scoring low.

The second convention is conditions and reagent together. A reaction identified correctly but without its reagent, or with the reagent and no conditions, is an incomplete answer in a subject where the conditions often determine which product forms. The third is the mechanism-type label itself: naming the class of reaction earns marks that students routinely forgo by going straight to the product.

None of this needs a laboratory and all of it needs a shared drawing surface, which is why organic chemistry teaches well online. The drill is repetitive: draw the mechanism, state the type, give the reagent and conditions, then check the arrow origins. Done weekly through the second Diploma year, it converts organic chemistry from the hardest part of the paper into one of the most reliable.

ORGANIC CHEMISTRY: WHAT THE MARK SCHEME IS ACTUALLY PAYING FOR

Curly arrow originStarts at a lone pair or a bondDrawn from an atom label or from nowhereArrow origins checked on every mechanism drawn

03

The chemistry investigation, from feasibility to evaluation

  • Check feasibility against the school's own apparatus in week one
  • Derive uncertainty from glassware tolerance and balance resolution
  • Test the conclusion against the data rather than against the expectation
  • Laboratory work stays at school under the teacher's supervision
  • Every sentence in the draft must have been typed by the student

The internally assessed investigation is where a chemistry tutor can do the most legitimate good, and it fails in a way that is specific to the subject. Physics investigations fail on measurement. Chemistry investigations fail on feasibility: the research question requires a reagent, a concentration or an instrument the school laboratory does not hold, and nobody discovers this until the practical session.

So the first job is a feasibility check, and it is a conversation rather than a lesson. What does the school actually have? What concentrations are available? Is there a balance with the resolution this question needs? A question that survives those three questions is worth developing; one that does not should be replaced in week one rather than in week six with a rushed substitute.

The second job is uncertainty, derived rather than guessed. Volumetric glassware has stated tolerances, a balance has a resolution, and a titration calculation propagates those through several operations. A student who writes a plausible round number as their uncertainty loses marks in the analysis criterion and in the evaluation criterion, because the evaluation has nothing real to engage with.

The third job is the boundary, and it is firm. A tutor can narrow the question, check feasibility, teach the chemistry, explain each criterion and its ceiling, check propagation, question whether the conclusion follows from the data, and mark a draft against the descriptors. A tutor cannot write, rewrite or complete any part of it, supply the question, or produce or adjust data. Services in this market sell completed Internal Assessments, one advertising them at AED 3,750, and submitting bought work risks the entire Diploma.

04

Paper anatomy, and the habit each section punishes

Diploma chemistry is examined across papers that mix multiple-choice and data-based questions with extended written response. Each of those formats punishes a different habit, and treating them as one undifferentiated revision target is why a lot of late preparation produces no change.

Multiple-choice questions punish rushing. The distractors are built from the specific errors students make - a reversed sign, a ratio applied the wrong way, a unit mismatch - so an answer that feels obviously right is frequently the designed trap. The drill is to work the calculation rather than recognise the shape, which costs seconds and saves marks.

Data-based questions punish weak graph and uncertainty handling, and they reward a skill nobody revises: deciding what the data can and cannot support. A student who asserts proportionality from points whose uncertainty bars overlap has made a chemistry error. Linearisation, gradient units and physical interpretation of a gradient are all marked here.

Extended response punishes depth mismatch. "Explain" wants reasoning that connects facts; "discuss" wants both sides reaching somewhere; "evaluate" wants a judgement with evidence. A student whose default register is a statement of correct chemistry scores well on recall questions and loses consistently on the high-tariff ones. Separating the paper types in practice, rather than sitting whole papers only, is what exposes which of the three is costing the marks.

The practical implication is that whole-paper practice is the wrong starting point late in the course. Sitting a complete paper tells you the total and hides the cause. Working twenty multiple-choice questions, then four data-based questions, then four extended-response questions as separate exercises tells you which of the three formats is leaking marks, and that is what the following sessions should target.

PAPER SECTIONS AND THE HABIT THEY PUNISH

What chemistry tutoring costs in Dubai, and what you are buying at each level

Published Dubai figures, read in October 2026, attributed to whoever published them. Tutopiya advertises from about AED 33-52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45-65, both online. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB from AED 200 online. Dubai rate guidance puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180-350, with independent home tutors advertising up to AED 500. Specialist exam-year work is published at AED 200-450 and above, TutorChase quotes around AED 270, and BartyED publishes AED 650.

For Diploma chemistry the entry band does very little. Someone at AED 50 an hour can keep a student working through questions; they cannot tell them that the arrow in their mechanism starts in the wrong place, or that their titration uncertainty was invented. The decision in chemistry is almost always between the AED 150-300 online band and the AED 180-500 in-home band, and the difference between those two is mostly the journey.

Monthly figures are often more useful for a household plan. Dubai rate guidance estimates a weekly one-hour session at roughly AED 240-600 a month at the budget end, AED 600-1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000-2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support. Packages seen in the market include around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home visits.

None of these are IB Gram prices; this page has no rate card, because the fee depends on level and is quoted after the free trial lesson. The bands exist so a quote can be judged against something published. Three of the pages currently ranking for this search publish no price at all, and two quote US dollars to families who transact in dirhams.

Online chemistry from a Jebel Ali address, including the laboratory question

The question every chemistry parent asks is whether a subject with a laboratory can be tutored over video. The answer is that the laboratory part was never the tutor's job. Under IB rules the practical work happens at school, with the school's apparatus, risk assessment and supervision. What a tutor contributes is the design before the practical and the analysis and writing after it, both of which are document and drawing work.

Mechanism teaching is the clearest case. Organic chemistry is taught by drawing, and a shared screen where tutor and student draw on the same structure is at least as good as a sheet of paper between two chairs, with the advantage that the whole session is saved and can be reviewed. Uncertainty work, graph interrogation and criterion-by-criterion review of a draft are all document work too.

IB Gram offers no home visits in the UAE. In-home tutoring is a service we run only in India, stated here near the top rather than discovered after a booking, because two providers ranking for UAE searches route parents to an Indian phone number without disclosing that delivery is remote.

The genuine limitations: a student who will not begin work without an adult present does better in person; a weak connection shortens the hour whatever the clock says; a shared study space in a Discovery Gardens apartment undermines the lesson because the tutor cannot manage the room; and nobody online substitutes for laboratory time. If one of those describes your household, hire locally and ask about the MoHRE private tuition work permit before the first lesson.

07

Academic honesty in chemistry, where the risk is highest

  • Unexpected data is evaluation material, not a problem to be tidied
  • Adjusting a reading is a malpractice exposure, not a shortcut
  • A tutor explains, questions and marks; the student writes everything
  • No KHDA, ADEK, MoE, IB or Cambridge approval claimed, because we hold none
  • No examiner claims and no promised outcomes of any kind

Chemistry carries a particular academic-honesty risk because the investigation produces data, and data can be altered in a way an essay cannot. A student who adjusts a reading to improve a trend has committed a more serious act than one who writes a weak conclusion, and the evaluation criterion exists partly to reward honesty about imperfect results.

So the first thing a good chemistry tutor teaches about the investigation is that unexpected data is not a failure. A result that does not match the expectation is material for the evaluation criterion. A result that has been tidied is a malpractice exposure that can cost the Diploma. We say that explicitly in the first session on any investigation, because students under deadline pressure are the ones who reach for the eraser.

The boundary on writing is the same as in every subject and worth restating. A tutor may teach the chemistry, explain each criterion and its mark ceiling, check feasibility, check uncertainty propagation, question whether the conclusion follows, check referencing conventions and mark a draft against the descriptors. A tutor may not write, rewrite or complete any part of it, supply the question, or produce data. There are services selling completed Internal Assessments in this market at AED 3,750, and that transaction is worse value than it looks.

The other claims to discount: we are not KHDA approved, a KHDA Educational Services Permit being issued to training institutes with physical premises that we neither hold nor occupy; we claim no ADEK, MoE, MoHRE, IB or Cambridge accreditation or partnership; we do not describe tutors as IB examiners, because current examiner status is not evidenceable for individuals and is routinely used to imply access to marking that nobody has; and we promise no grade, points total or improvement figure.

08

Starting, whichever cliff you are standing on

Send the level - Higher or Standard - the school, and a photograph of the most recent marked assessment, or the current investigation draft if that is the live deadline. If you know which unit the class is about to start, say so: a request that arrives six weeks before organic chemistry gets a different and cheaper plan than one that arrives six weeks after.

The first session is diagnostic. The tutor reads the script against the mark scheme and tells you plainly which of three positions you are in: convention errors recoverable in weeks, genuine content gaps needing a term, or both with a deadline too close to serve either properly. The third answer determines what gets sacrificed, and it is better heard in the first session than in April.

Matching takes about a day for Standard Level chemistry. Higher Level in the second Diploma year can take two or three days, because the pool is narrow and a general science tutor in front of a Higher Level organic paper is worse than a short delay. We tell you the expected wait at the enquiry.

When no suitable chemistry specialist has a slot at the hour you need, we say so and offer the real alternatives: a different weekday with the right tutor, a short block until a regular slot frees up, or an honest recommendation to hire locally with the permit question in hand. No competitor in this market publishes its unavailable case, which is why it is written here rather than left to a delayed reply.

Where we tutor

Where Diploma chemistry students in this catchment live

These communities share the Jebel Ali school catchment and a very thin local supply of chemistry specialists at Higher Level.

Jebel Ali Village

Low-rise housing by the port and free zone. Chemistry requests from here tend to arrive after the organic unit rather than before it, which limits what the remaining weeks can do.

Al Furjan

Metro-connected villas and townhouses, and the main source of Higher Level chemistry requests in the cluster, usually tied to an investigation deadline.

Discovery Gardens

Dense apartments with mixed home languages. Explanation depth dominates requests here: the chemistry is known and the answer is pitched at the wrong level.

Dubai Investments Park

Holds the catchment's IB continuum capacity, so MYP 5 students preparing for Diploma chemistry are concentrated in this postcode.

Green Community

Villas and low-rise apartments with the shortest school run in the cluster, and the clearest view of how few local chemistry specialists there are.

Dubai South

New, large and spread out around the Expo site and Al Maktoum airport. A radius search here for a Higher Level chemistry tutor usually returns general science tutors.

Emaar South

Golf-course villas deep inside Dubai South. Mechanism drawing at 6.30pm, after a tutor's cross-city drive, is not when a student does their best work.

Dubai Production City

Mixed residential and business district on the eastern edge, feeding into both the Jebel Ali and Motor City school sets depending on year group.

School ecosystem

Diploma chemistry provision near this catchment

The Diploma is taught at a small number of schools serving this part of Dubai. Higher Level chemistry cohorts are small, which means one teacher's availability shapes a whole year group's experience of the subject.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the level and the next unit

Higher or Standard, and what the class is about to start. Work timed to arrive before energetics or organic chemistry is preparation; the same work after the unit is repair, and repair competes with the investigation for the same weeks.

  2. 02

Send a marked script or the investigation draft

A photograph is enough. Chemistry is diagnosable from a script: sign conventions, mole set-up order, arrow origins and explanation depth all show within two or three questions, and they are different problems with different timescales.

  3. 03

Chemistry specialist matched at that level

Never a general science tutor. Standard Level usually matches within a day; Higher Level in the second Diploma year can take two or three, and we tell you which case applies before you start waiting for someone.

  4. 04

    Free diagnostic trial lesson online

A real one-to-one lesson with the matched specialist on the document you sent, ending in a written note of what it showed and what the first month should target. No card details and no package to commit to beforehand.

  5. 05

Weekly slot, re-cut at each edge

The same tutor at the same Gulf Standard Time hour, with the plan rewritten at the investigation deadline, after the mocks and again eight weeks out. Slots shift for Ramadan and exam weeks as a calendar change.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Timed to the two cliffs

Energetics in the first year and organic mechanisms in the second decide most chemistry grades, and both arrive on a schedule the school publishes. Preparation before a unit costs less and achieves more than repair after it.

Conventions drilled, not discussed

Enthalpy signs, mole set-up order, arrow origins, reagent and conditions: these are mechanical rules that respond to enforcement. Most chemistry marks a Jebel Ali student loses are convention marks rather than knowledge marks.

Feasibility checked before the investigation starts

Chemistry investigations fail on apparatus and reagents the school does not hold, discovered in week six. A thirty-minute feasibility conversation in week one prevents the rushed substitute that costs the evaluation criterion.

Honesty about data taught explicitly

Unexpected results are material for the evaluation criterion, not a problem to be tidied. We say that in the first investigation session, because deadline pressure is when the temptation appears.

Figures attributed and dated

Every AED band here names its publisher and the month we read it. Three of the pages ranking for this search publish no price, and two quote US dollars to families paying in dirhams.

The earliest usable hour

Sessions start from about 4pm Gulf Standard Time because nobody is driving to Jebel Ali or Emaar South. Mechanism drawing is precision work, and precision work at 6.30pm after a cross-city drive is not where marks come from.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Jebel Ali: your questions answered

When does Diploma chemistry get hard for students in this catchment?+

At two predictable points. The first is early in the course, when bonding and energetics turn quantitative and sign conventions and mole set-up order start deciding marks. The second is in the second year, when organic chemistry arrives and the subject becomes mechanism drawing with conventions that must be exact. Both are scheduled rather than random, which means both can be worked before they arrive. The school's scheme of work tells you when, and that is the single most useful document a chemistry parent can ask for.

Why does my child lose mechanism marks when the product is correct?+

Because the mark is for the movement of electrons rather than for the product. A curly arrow must start at a lone pair or at a bond, not at an atom label and not from thin air, and an arrow drawn from the wrong place loses the mark even beside a correct product. Students who were never told this explicitly draw plausible arrows for a year without understanding why mechanism questions score low. Checking arrow origins on every mechanism drawn, every session, fixes it within weeks.

My child finds organic chemistry very difficult. Is that fixable before the papers?+

It is one of the more fixable parts of the course, because so much of it is convention rather than insight. The drill is repetitive: state the reaction type, name the reagent precisely, give the conditions, draw the mechanism, then check every arrow origin and every intermediate. Done weekly, organic chemistry moves from being the most feared part of the paper to one of the more reliable, because the marks are allocated to things that can be made automatic. Starting before the unit is taught is better still.

What does a chemistry tutor do about the laboratory work?+

Nothing, by design. Under IB rules the practical work happens at school with the school's apparatus, risk assessment and supervision. What a tutor contributes sits either side of it: checking the research question is feasible with what the laboratory actually holds, teaching the chemistry the investigation needs, deriving uncertainty from glassware tolerance and balance resolution rather than guessing it, and testing whether the conclusion follows from the data collected. All of that is document and drawing work, which is why it transfers to video well.

Why do chemistry investigations go wrong in the second Diploma year?+

Feasibility, more often than anything else. The research question needs a reagent, a concentration or an instrument resolution the school laboratory does not hold, and this is discovered during the practical session rather than during the design. The student then substitutes a rushed question with little room for real evaluation, and the evaluation criterion is where the marks were. A thirty-minute conversation with the teacher about available apparatus, in week one, prevents the whole sequence.

Can a tutor help with the chemistry IA without breaching IB rules?+

Yes, within a firm boundary. A tutor can narrow the research question, check feasibility against the school's apparatus, teach the chemistry involved, explain each criterion and its mark ceiling, check whether uncertainties were derived or invented, question whether the conclusion follows from the data, check referencing, and mark the draft against the descriptors. A tutor cannot write, rewrite or complete any part of it, supply the question, or produce or adjust data. Every sentence must be typed by your child, and no result should ever be tidied.

Does the enthalpy sign really cost whole questions?+

It does, and it is one of the cruellest losses in the subject, because every arithmetic step can be correct. An enthalpy change carries a sign that encodes direction, so an exothermic value written positive invalidates a cycle that is otherwise flawless, and the student sees no error to find. The fix is mechanical: write the sign before the magnitude, every time, even when it feels obvious. Four sessions of that enforcement typically removes the problem permanently, and it is the cheapest chemistry mark available.

What is the best use of the last eight weeks before the chemistry papers?+

Timed papers and mechanism drills, with no new content. Full papers under real conditions, including the data-based sections, marked by someone who is not the student against the official scheme. Separately, mechanism and half-equation drills, because both are procedural and therefore the fastest marks available late. Introducing new chemistry in this window displaces the practice that converts existing knowledge into marks, which is why a late content push so often leaves the result unchanged.

Is Higher Level chemistry worth it if my child wants medicine?+

Entry requirements differ by university and by country, and the only reliable method is to read the requirements for two or three specific programmes directly rather than relying on a general rule. Separately, school-leaving certificates generally need Ministry of Education equivalency before a UAE university application, and no IB points threshold appears in the source we have read, so verify that on moe.gov.ae rather than trusting a figure quoted on a tutoring page. We make no claim about admission outcomes and tutoring is not a requirement for any of it.

How quickly can you match a Higher Level chemistry tutor near Green Community?+

Standard Level chemistry usually matches within a day. Higher Level in the second Diploma year takes two or three, because the specialist pool is genuinely narrow and putting a general science tutor in front of Higher Level organic work is worse than a short wait. We state the expected wait at the enquiry rather than afterwards. A radius search from Green Community, Dubai South or Emaar South for the same specialism commonly returns general science tutors only, which is the supply problem online delivery solves.

Can one tutor take chemistry and biology for the same Diploma student?+

We would usually say no, and the reason is specific. Chemistry at Higher Level turns on mechanism conventions and quantitative set-up; biology turns on command-term discipline and the structure of extended answers. They are taught by different specialists in most schools for good reason, and the match we make is for component-level knowledge of one mark scheme. Chemistry and physics share more ground through the mathematics. Tell us both subjects and we will say honestly whether one tutor fits or two is better.

Do you publish IB chemistry exam dates on this page?+

No, deliberately. IB session and results dates cannot be confirmed from the IB by automated means, so this page names the May session as the one almost all UAE schools enter candidates for and goes no further. Cambridge and Pearson dates are published and we cite those where relevant. The dates that drive your term plan are internal anyway - the investigation deadline, the Extended Essay deadline, the mock window - and your school's Diploma coordinator holds all three.

How should chemistry sessions change during Ramadan?+

Keep the frequency and shorten the session. What decays fastest in chemistry when sessions stop is quantitative fluency: mole set-up, unit conversion, rearranging relationships. Two shorter sessions a week hold that better than one long one while a student is fasting, and a complete pause usually means relearning in the first week back. The hour itself typically moves to early afternoon or post-iftar. Because nobody is travelling to your address, moving a slot is a calendar change rather than a renegotiation of a commute.

What does the free chemistry trial lesson produce?+

A written diagnosis that is yours whether or not you continue. The matched specialist, not a salesperson, teaches a real one-to-one lesson online on the marked script or investigation draft you sent, and finishes by writing down what the document showed: whether the losses are sign conventions, mole set-up order, arrow origins, explanation depth, or genuinely unfinished content, and what the first month should target. No card details are required to book it and there is no package to agree beforehand.

Find out which cliff is next, then send one script

If you are looking for an IB chemistry tutor in Jebel Ali, ask the school for its scheme of work first. It tells you whether energetics or organic chemistry is coming, and arriving before a unit costs less and achieves more than repairing it afterwards. Then send the level, the school, and a photograph of the most recent marked assessment or the current investigation draft. A chemistry specialist reads it, names whether the losses are conventions or content, and teaches a free one-to-one trial lesson online at a Gulf Standard Time hour that works from Jebel Ali, Al Furjan, Green Community or Dubai South.
