IGCSE Maths Tutor in Jebel Ali

Choosing an IGCSE maths tutor in Jebel Ali means choosing between four different business models before you ever compare two people: a tuition centre, an agency, an independent freelance tutor, or online one-to-one. They price differently, they fail differently, and only one of them is unaffected by how far south of Dubai you live. IB Gram teaches live, one-to-one, online on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Four tuition models compared on price, replacement policy and travel
  • Matched to Cambridge 0580 or Edexcel 4MA1, never to "maths"
  • Live one-to-one online; the same tutor pool from Jebel Ali or Emaar South
  • Free diagnostic trial lesson built on a marked paper

IB & IGCSE in Jebel Ali

Four ways to buy IGCSE maths help, and how they differ in practice

Before a Jebel Ali parent compares two tutors, they are already choosing between four quite different products. A tuition centre sells a group class at a venue. An agency sells a matched tutor and manages the relationship. A freelance tutor sells their own time directly. An online platform sells one-to-one lessons over video. These are not variations on a theme; they differ in price structure, in what happens when the match is wrong, and in how much the drive matters.

Nobody in this market sets that comparison out, because every competitor page compares itself favourably against an unnamed alternative. So this page compares the models rather than the brands, with the AED figures attributed to whoever published them in October 2026, and then applies the comparison to the specific geography of Jebel Ali and Dubai South.

The geography is the twist. Jebel Ali sits at the industrial western edge of the emirate, wrapped around the port and the free zone, with its residential communities spread out through Al Furjan, Discovery Gardens, Dubai Investments Park, Green Community, Dubai South and Emaar South. Three of the four models get more expensive, slower or less available the further south the address sits. One does not change at all.

The second half of the comparison is academic rather than commercial, and it is the one families skip. Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A 4MA1 are different qualifications. Cambridge splits candidates into a Core route sitting Papers 1 and 3 and an Extended route sitting Papers 2 and 4. Pearson runs two equally weighted papers across Foundation and Higher tiers. Hiring on the word "maths" risks a term aimed at the wrong paper.

One more comparison is worth making before any money changes hands, and it has nothing to do with price. Ask what happens when the match is wrong, because that is the most likely failure and it is rarely about competence. A tutor pitched for a confident Higher-tier candidate, working with a student whose algebra needs rebuilding from Year 9, will lose both of them within a month. An agency or platform has a replacement mechanism and that mechanism is what its margin pays for. A freelance arrangement has none, and a centre's answer is to move your child to a different class. For a family that has already spent three weeks finding someone, the replacement question turns out to matter more than the hourly rate.

IB Gram teaches live, one-to-one, over video on Gulf Standard Time. We do not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. That is stated here rather than buried, because two providers ranking for UAE searches route parents to an Indian phone number without disclosing that delivery is remote.

What follows: the model comparison table, the board comparison, the route and tier decision that sets your child's grade ceiling, the topics that cost marks in this catchment, the AED bands with their sources, and the calendar counted backwards from the series your child is entered for. Read it with the exam entry statement and one marked paper to hand.

An IGCSE maths student in this catchment sits one of two specifications, on one of two routes within it, and may also be taking a second maths qualification alongside. Each of those facts changes the preparation.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics

Split into a Core route and an Extended route. Core candidates sit Papers 1 and 3; Extended candidates sit Papers 2 and 4. The Core route caps the maximum attainable grade, which is its function rather than a flaw. Cambridge examines in a June series and a November series, with every centre allocated to one of six administrative zones.

Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. For a Jebel Ali family the practical step is one email to the exams officer asking which zone the centre sits in, and keeping the answer.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A

Two papers of equal weight, with Foundation and Higher tiers. The tier sets the grade ceiling in the same way Cambridge's routes do. Pearson examines in a May/June window and a November window, and publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series which are then revised.

The checkable Pearson dates give the rhythm: the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. That January gap catches families planning a resit around a sixth-form deadline.

Additional and Further mathematics alongside

Cambridge Additional Mathematics 0606 and Pearson Further Pure Mathematics 4PM1 are separate qualifications taken alongside the main course, usually by students heading for A Level Mathematics, Further Mathematics or IB Higher Level. Calculus and trigonometric identities dominate both.

These two codes have the thinnest local tutor supply of anything in the Jebel Ali catchment. A radius search from Dubai South or Emaar South for a 0606 specialist commonly returns nobody, which is the clearest single case in this cluster where delivery model changes the outcome rather than just the price.

Where IGCSE maths leads

A Level Mathematics, or IB Mathematics in one of its two courses: Analysis and Approaches, or Applications and Interpretation. Each sixth form publishes an entry grade, and for maths those grades are usually among the higher ones on the list.

Both routes exist inside this catchment. The Winchester School Jebel Ali and Dove Green Private School run A Levels, while Greenfield International School, Fairgreen International School and Sunmarke School offer IB Diploma provision. Some of the published entry grades are not reachable from a Core or Foundation entry, which is why the Year 10 tier decision deserves evidence.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

IGCSE mathematics fails in a small number of predictable places. Below is what our tutors see repeatedly in marked papers from the schools serving Jebel Ali and Dubai Investments Park.

Algebraic manipulation

Core, Extended, Foundation and Higher

Rarely examined on its own and present inside almost everything else. Students who practise algebra in isolation still lose marks when it appears buried inside a geometry or statistics question, because they do not recognise it there.

Rearranging formulae

Core, Extended, Foundation and Higher

Recognising a formula is not the same as transposing it under time pressure. This single skill determines whether the back half of a multi-part question is accessible, and it transfers directly into physics and chemistry marks.

Rounding and accuracy

All routes and tiers

Rounding applied at an intermediate step rather than at the end produces an answer just outside the acceptable range, and the mark is lost on an otherwise perfect method. One of the cheapest fixes available in the whole subject.

Trigonometry and bearings

Extended and Higher mainly

Non-right-angled triangles, the sine and cosine rules, and three-dimensional problems. Marks go on diagrams never drawn: students attempt the calculation from the text rather than sketching the situation first.

Probability and tree diagrams

All routes and tiers

Conditional probability and the without-replacement case. Candidates lose marks by writing the fractions correctly and then not multiplying along branches, or by failing to add the mutually exclusive paths.

Statistics and cumulative frequency

All routes and tiers

Reading estimates off a cumulative frequency curve, box plots and interpreting the spread. Interpretation sentences carry marks, and a correct median with no statement of what it indicates earns less than it could.

Functions and graphs

Extended and Higher

Transformations, inverse and composite functions, and sketching from an equation. The common failure is applying transformations in the wrong order, which is a rule to memorise rather than a concept to grasp.

Vectors and geometry proof

Extended and Higher

Column vectors, position vectors and short geometric arguments. Students who can calculate the vector often cannot write the one-line reason the examiner is paying for, which caps the question regardless.

Additional Mathematics 0606 topics

Taken alongside the main course

Differentiation, integration, logarithms and trigonometric identities at a level above the main syllabus. The hardest code in this catchment to resource locally and the one where an online match matters most.

Non-calculator fluency

Where the specification requires it

Arithmetic, fractions and index work done by hand, at speed, accurately. A calculator has usually been covering for a gap since Year 8, and the gap becomes visible at exactly the wrong moment.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats. The right one depends on whether the problem is a single topic, a whole-syllabus gap or examination technique.

Single-topic repair blocks

Four to six sessions aimed at one topic, worked only through the question shapes the paper uses for it. Trigonometry, probability trees, cumulative frequency, function transformations: each has a characteristic form, and practising the form beats rereading the chapter.

  • One topic, a fixed number of sessions, a defined end point
  • Question types drawn from the relevant paper only
  • Marked against the official scheme each session
  • Finishes when the topic stops losing marks

Whole-syllabus rebuilding

Term-long weekly work for a student whose Year 9 foundations did not hold. Slower and less satisfying than topic work, and the only honest answer when algebraic fluency is missing, because every topic above it will keep failing until it is fixed.

  • Starts below the current year group, deliberately
  • Algebra and rearrangement rebuilt before new topics
  • Non-calculator fluency drilled where the paper needs it
  • Progress measured against timed questions, not chapters

Timed-paper technique runs

Short intensive work before mocks or the live series. The student sits full papers under real timing, a tutor marks them against the official scheme, and the next session attacks the habits the marking exposed rather than moving to a fresh paper.

  • Both papers for the route or tier, under exam timing
  • Externally marked; self-marking over-rewards
  • A ranked habit list after each paper
  • Official past-paper sources linked, never redistributed

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Jebel Ali

01

The four tuition models, compared on what actually differs

A tuition centre sells a seat in a group class at a venue. The price per hour is the lowest of the four because the teacher's time is shared, and for a student who is broadly on track and needs structured practice it can be good value. The limitation is that a group class cannot diagnose one student's specific habits, and a Jebel Ali or Dubai South family also pays in travel twice a week.

An agency sells a matched tutor and manages the relationship, including replacing the tutor when the match is wrong. That management is what the margin pays for and it is genuinely worth something, because the commonest tutoring failure is a mismatch of pace rather than incompetence. Agencies offering in-home delivery price the drive into the rate, and that is where distance bites.

A freelance tutor sells their own time directly, usually at a lower rate than an agency for the same person, and with no replacement mechanism. The right question to a freelance tutor is not about qualifications but about the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which the UAE government states is granted free of charge for two years, and about which syllabus code they have actually taught.

Online one-to-one sells a matched specialist with no travel in the price. It is the only one of the four models whose cost, availability and earliest start time do not change between Jebel Ali Village and Emaar South. It is also the only one that cannot supervise a student who will not begin work without an adult in the room, which is a real limitation and worth naming.

02

Cambridge 0580 against Edexcel 4MA1, paper by paper

Both are International GCSEs in mathematics and both are accepted by UAE and overseas universities, and that is where the similarity ends for a tutor planning a term. The paper structures differ, the way candidates are divided differs, and the question styles that follow from those structures differ enough to matter over eight weeks of preparation.

Cambridge 0580 divides candidates by route. Core candidates sit Papers 1 and 3; Extended candidates sit Papers 2 and 4. The Core route caps the maximum grade. Pearson 4MA1 divides candidates by tier - Foundation and Higher - and runs two papers of equal weight rather than a short-and-long pair. A student moving school between the two boards mid-course is doing more than changing textbooks.

There is an administrative difference that matters as much as the academic one. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, states that it is essential to use the correct timetable version for your zone, and says plainly that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series and then revises them. In both cases the live official PDF is the only safe reference.

Our first question to a family is therefore the code rather than the subject. If you do not have it, it is printed on the exam entry statement and on the front cover of any past paper your child has been set. One photograph settles it, and it prevents the single most expensive mistake in IGCSE tutoring.

03

The route and tier decision, which sets the ceiling before any teaching happens

  • Core and Foundation cap the attainable grade by design
  • Habit losses are not evidence of the wrong tier
  • Decide on two marked timed papers, one at each route
  • Read the sixth-form maths entry grade before confirming
  • Ask the school when the tier-change deadline falls

This is the decision that most affects a Jebel Ali student's final maths grade, and it is usually taken for pastoral reasons rather than evidential ones. A Year 10 has a bad term, the school proposes Core or Foundation to protect the grade, the family agrees because it sounds like safety, and the ceiling only becomes visible eighteen months later when a sixth form publishes its entry requirement.

The honest position is that Core and Foundation exist for students who cannot access the higher paper at all, and for those students they are plainly right: a very low grade on a harder paper serves nobody. They are not a revision strategy, not a confidence measure, and not a way to reduce workload. Used that way they trade one term of comfort for a permanent constraint.

Decide it with a marked paper rather than an impression. Sit a timed paper at each route, have both marked against the official scheme by someone who is not the student, and read what the marks say. A student losing Extended or Higher marks to unwritten method lines, early rounding and abandoned multi-part questions is not a Core candidate; they are a higher-tier candidate with three fixable habits. A student who cannot begin most questions is a genuinely different case, and the marking makes that obvious within an hour.

Then check the destination. Both A Level and IB Diploma routes are available within this catchment, and the maths entry grades are often the highest on a school's list. Some of them cannot be reached from a Core or Foundation entry at all. Read the requirement first; the entry deadline for a tier change is set by the school and it is earlier than most families assume.

04

Where IGCSE maths marks actually go in this catchment

The pattern is remarkably stable across the marked papers we see from the Jebel Ali and Al Furjan schools, and almost none of it is topic ignorance. Four habits account for most of the recoverable marks, and all four respond to drilling inside eight weeks.

The first is the unwritten method line. A student works part of a question mentally, writes only the answer, and when a slip occurs loses every method mark that was available alongside it. The second is rounding applied at an intermediate step, which produces a final answer just outside the acceptable range on otherwise perfect work. The third is the abandoned multi-part question: part (a) does not resolve, the student moves on, and parts (b) and (c) which were reachable go unattempted.

The fourth is subtler and shows up most in Discovery Gardens requests: the question has not been read accurately. The mathematics is present and the student has solved a slightly different problem from the one on the page. For a student working in an additional language this is a reading problem wearing a maths costume, and treating it as a maths problem wastes the term.

What all four have in common is that they are invisible without external marking. Self-marking over-rewards, because the student reads their own shorthand generously and knows what they meant. An hour of someone else marking against the official scheme turns a vague sense of underperformance into a short, ranked list - and that list, not the textbook, is what the next six weeks should attack.

05

The AED numbers behind each model, and what a parent can verify

Everything in this section is a market figure published by somebody else, read in October 2026, and attributed. None of it is an IB Gram rate card; our fee depends on the course and level and is quoted after the free trial lesson. The point of publishing the bands is that a quote becomes checkable, which is more than three of the pages ranking for this search allow.

At the entry level, Tutopiya advertises from about AED 33-52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45-65, both online. In the qualified-tutor band, Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB from AED 200 online. For in-home delivery, Dubai rate guidance puts one-to-one visits at AED 180-350 with independent home tutors advertising to AED 500. Specialist exam-year work is published at AED 200-450 and above, TutorChase quotes around AED 270, and BartyED publishes AED 650.

Monthly figures are often more useful than hourly ones for a household budget. Dubai rate guidance estimates a weekly one-hour session at roughly AED 240-600 a month at the budget end, AED 600-1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000-2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support. Packages seen in the market include around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home visits.

Here is what a parent can actually verify, which is the part no competitor page addresses. You can ask for the tutor's MoHRE private tuition permit. You can ask which syllabus code they have taught and ask them to name the papers in it. You can ask whether marking is against the official scheme or by impression. You can ask what the replacement policy is if the match fails. Price is the easiest thing to compare and the least informative of the five.

The series calendar, counted backwards, for a maths candidate

  • UAE candidates sit June and November; February/March is India-only
  • Final entries, and therefore the tier decision, close months ahead
  • A timed-paper cycle needs eight to ten weeks and a covered syllabus
  • November results can land in late January, tight against sixth-form deadlines
  • Confirm the centre's Cambridge zone in writing

UAE candidates sit Cambridge IGCSE mathematics in the June series and the November series. The February/March series is offered to India only, so a page quoting a February exam window or a late-November entry deadline to a Dubai family is handing them another country's calendar. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in a May/June window and a November window.

Counting backwards from the paper is what makes a plan honest. The final entries close months before the exam, and the route or tier is confirmed at that point. Mocks land about a term ahead and exist to generate data rather than to be survived. A timed-paper cycle should begin eight to ten weeks out, which means the syllabus needs to have been covered once before that. Families who begin tutoring after the mocks have, by definition, missed the content window.

The Pearson dates that are checkable show how long the tail is: the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students the following day, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. A November resit confirmed in late January is tight against spring sixth-form deadlines, and that is worth knowing before the resit is chosen rather than after.

Two rules follow. Work from the live official timetable on cambridgeinternational.org or qualifications.pearson.com rather than from any date restated on a tutoring page, this one included. And ask your centre which Cambridge administrative zone it belongs to, because the zone determines which timetable applies and Cambridge states it cannot accept responsibility if the wrong version is used.

07

Equivalency, permits and the claims to discount

Families in this catchment planning a UAE university application need Ministry of Education equivalency for the school-leaving certificate. The published British-track rule is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus either one accredited Advanced Level subject at no less than grade E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five.

That five-subject figure is worth stating precisely, because one page ranking in this market tells UAE parents the requirement is six subjects. Mathematics is almost always one of the five in practice, which is a reason to care about the tier decision beyond the sixth-form question. Equivalency is a Ministry process that IB Gram neither performs nor influences; we describe it and point you to the official channel, and tutoring is not a requirement for it.

On permits: private tutoring in the UAE requires the private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and issued through MoHRE. The UAE government states it is granted free of charge for two years and lists eligible applicants including registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Tutoring without one carries fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule has been published, so treat any quoted amount with suspicion.

Finally, what to discount. IB Gram is not KHDA approved; a KHDA Educational Services Permit is issued to training institutes with physical premises and we hold none and operate no UAE office. We claim no ADEK, MoE, MoHRE, Cambridge or Pearson accreditation or partnership, publish no self-asserted star rating, promise no grade or improvement figure, and quote no statistic without its source and date.

08

Starting, and the honest answer when a code cannot be covered

Send the syllabus code, the route or tier, the year group and a photograph of the most recent marked paper. If the code is unknown, the marked paper carries it on the front. That single photograph is worth more than a long conversation, because it shows where the marks went rather than where the student felt least confident, and those are frequently different places.

We match a specialist to that code and route. Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 at either route usually match within a day. Additional Mathematics 0606 and Further Pure 4PM1 can take two or three days, because the pool is narrow and substituting a general maths tutor for a calculus specialist helps nobody. We tell you which case applies at the enquiry stage.

The trial lesson is free, taught by the matched specialist rather than by a salesperson, and built on the paper you sent. The tutor works the lost marks with your child writing rather than watching, and finishes with a short written note of what the paper showed and what the first month should target. No card details are needed and there is nothing to commit to beforehand. The note is yours either way.

When no suitable specialist has a slot at the hour you want, we say so and offer real options: a different weekday with the right tutor, a short block until a regular slot frees up, or a recommendation to hire locally with the permit and code questions in hand. No competitor in this market publishes its unavailable case, which is exactly why it belongs here rather than in a reply to an email you have already waited a week for.

Where we tutor

Jebel Ali against its neighbours, for maths specifically

The maths request pattern differs slightly between these communities, which is useful information for a family trying to work out whether their child's problem is unusual.

Jebel Ali Village

Low-rise housing by the port and free zone. Requests skew towards whole-syllabus rebuilding in Year 11 rather than single topics, which usually means a Year 9 gap was never closed.

Al Furjan

Metro-connected villas and townhouses, and the largest source of maths requests in the cluster. Most arrive as single-topic problems in Year 10, which is the cheapest kind to fix.

Discovery Gardens

Dense apartments with very mixed home languages. Word-problem comprehension appears here more than elsewhere: the mathematics is present and the question is not being read accurately.

Dubai Investments Park

Holds the catchment's IB continuum capacity alongside UK, American and SABIS schools, so maths requests arrive against four different assessment systems from one postcode.

Green Community

Villas and low-rise apartments with the shortest school run in the cluster. Families here are often the first to notice that the local market has no 0606 or 4PM1 supply.

Dubai South

New, large and spread out around the Expo site and Al Maktoum airport. In-home maths tutors either decline bookings at this distance or price the journey in.

Emaar South

Golf-course villas deep inside Dubai South. A tutor arriving by car cannot realistically start before 6pm on a school night, and maths at 6pm produces sign errors.

Dubai Production City

Mixed residential and business district on the eastern edge, feeding into both the Jebel Ali and Motor City school sets depending on year group.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Jebel Ali

UK-curriculum maths centres around Jebel Ali

These schools enter most of the IGCSE maths candidates in this catchment. Boards differ between them, and occasionally between subjects inside one school, which is why the exam entry statement matters more than the school's name.

  • The Winchester School, Jebel Ali
  • Dove Green Private School
  • The Arbor School, Al Furjan
  • Sunmarke School, Al Furjan
  • South View School, Remraam
  • GEMS Founders School, Dubai South

Other systems on the same streets

A large share of children in this catchment sit CBSE, American or SABIS mathematics, or IB MYP criteria. A parent comparing maths tutoring notes with a neighbour is frequently comparing two unrelated assessment systems.

  • Delhi Private School Dubai
  • The International School of Choueifat Dubai
  • Nibras International School
  • Greenfield International School, Dubai Investments Park
  • Fairgreen International School, The Sustainable City

Schools are named purely as local education context. IB Gram asserts no affiliation, partnership, endorsement or client relationship with any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Choose the model before the person

Centre, agency, freelance or online one-to-one price and fail differently, and three of the four get worse the further south of Dubai you live. Deciding the model first makes the comparison between individual tutors far shorter.

  2. 02

Confirm the code and the route

Cambridge 0580 Core or Extended, Pearson 4MA1 Foundation or Higher. It is on the exam entry statement and the front of any past paper, and it determines which papers your child will actually sit.

  3. 03

    Send one marked paper

A photograph is enough. It carries the code and the evidence of where the marks went, which is what makes the first session diagnostic rather than introductory. Most lost marks turn out to be habits rather than content.

  4. 04

    Free diagnostic trial lesson online

A real one-to-one lesson with the matched specialist, built on that paper, ending in a written note of what it showed and what the first month should target. No card details, no package commitment, note yours either way.

  5. 05

Weekly slot, reviewed at the mocks

The same tutor at the same Gulf Standard Time hour each week, with the plan re-cut after mock results and again eight weeks before the series. Slots shift for Ramadan and exam weeks as a simple calendar change.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The model comparison is published, not implied

Centre, agency, freelance and online one-to-one are compared on price, travel effect, replacement policy and what a parent can verify. Every competitor page in this market compares itself against an unnamed straw man instead.

Distance stops being a price input

Three of the four tuition models charge more, offer fewer slots or decline outright as the address moves south towards Dubai South and Emaar South. Online one-to-one is the only one whose cost and availability do not move.

Matched to the code, not the subject

0580 and 4MA1 divide candidates differently and sit different papers. We confirm the code and the route before assigning anyone, because a term aimed at the wrong specification cannot be recovered in Year 11.

Narrow codes become available

Additional Mathematics 0606 and Further Pure 4PM1 have almost no in-home supply in this catchment. For those two, the delivery model is the difference between a specialist and nobody at all.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Jebel Ali: your questions answered

Is a tuition centre or a one-to-one tutor better for IGCSE maths in Jebel Ali?+

It depends on whether your child needs diagnosis or structure. A centre class is the cheapest per hour because the teacher's time is shared, and for a student broadly on track who simply needs supervised practice it can be good value. What a group class cannot do is identify one student's specific habits - the unwritten method line, the early rounding - and drill them out. A Jebel Ali or Dubai South family also pays in travel twice a week. One-to-one costs more per hour and is the only format that diagnoses.

Why do freelance maths tutors in Jebel Ali quote less than agencies?+

Because the agency margin is paying for something specific: matching, management and replacement when the match is wrong. The commonest tutoring failure is a mismatch of pace rather than incompetence, and with a freelance arrangement there is no mechanism for it - you simply start the search again. That does not make freelance a bad choice. It means the two questions to ask a freelance tutor are whether they hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit and which syllabus code they have actually taught, with the papers named.

What is the difference between Cambridge 0580 and Edexcel 4MA1 for a Year 11?+

They divide candidates differently and sit different papers. Cambridge 0580 uses a Core route sitting Papers 1 and 3 and an Extended route sitting Papers 2 and 4, with Core capping the attainable grade. Pearson 4MA1 uses Foundation and Higher tiers and runs two papers of equal weight rather than a short-and-long pair. The question styles follow from the structures, so a term of preparation aimed at the wrong specification wastes weeks. The code is on the exam entry statement and the front of any past paper.

Can my child move from Core to Extended maths partway through Year 10?+

Often yes, and the deadline is set by the school rather than by the board, which is why it needs asking early. The evidence for the decision should be two timed papers, one at each route, marked externally against the official scheme. A student losing Extended marks to unwritten method lines, early rounding and abandoned multi-part questions is an Extended candidate with fixable habits. A student who cannot begin most Extended questions is a different case, and an hour of marking makes the difference obvious.

Which maths topics cost Jebel Ali students the most marks?+

Four habits rather than four topics. Method lines not written down, which forfeits every method mark when a slip occurs. Rounding applied at an intermediate step, producing an answer just outside the acceptable range. Multi-part questions abandoned after part (a) when later parts were reachable. And questions misread, where the mathematics is sound but the problem solved is slightly different from the one on the page. All four are invisible without external marking, and all four respond to drilling inside eight weeks.

Does distance from central Dubai really change what we pay for maths tutoring?+

For three of the four models, yes. Dubai rate guidance puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180-350 an hour with independent tutors advertising up to AED 500, and the journey sits inside that figure. From Dubai South or Emaar South the journey is long enough that tutors either surcharge, offer very few slots, or decline. A centre class costs you travel twice a week. Online one-to-one, published at AED 150-300 for a qualified subject tutor, is the one model whose price and availability are unaffected by your address.

How do we find an Additional Mathematics 0606 tutor near Green Community?+

Locally, with difficulty. Cambridge 0606 and Pearson's Further Pure 4PM1 have the thinnest specialist supply of any code in this catchment, because few students take them and fewer tutors cover the calculus and trigonometric identity content properly. A radius search from Green Community, Dubai South or Emaar South commonly returns nobody usable. Online, these codes are coverable, though matching takes two to three days rather than one. We tell you the expected wait at the enquiry rather than leaving you to discover it.

Is maths one of the five subjects UAE equivalency counts?+

In practice it almost always is, which is a further reason to take the tier decision seriously. The published British-track rule requires five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus one Advanced Level subject at no less than E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from the five. One page ranking in this market states the figure as six subjects, which is not what the published rule says. Verify through the Ministry before relying on it.

Should we book a maths tutor before or after the mocks?+

Before, if there is any choice. Mocks land roughly a term before the series and exist to generate data; by the time they are marked, the content window for new teaching has effectively closed, because a timed-paper cycle needs the final eight to ten weeks. A student who has not covered the syllabus once by then cannot both learn it and practise it, and something gets sacrificed. If you are already past the mocks, the honest plan is habit repair and timed papers rather than a late content push.

Do you mark my child's papers or do they mark their own?+

A tutor marks them, against the official scheme, and that is most of the value. Self-marking systematically over-rewards: the student reads their own shorthand generously and knows what they intended to write, so a missing unit or an absent method line passes unnoticed. External marking converts a vague sense of underperformance into a short, ranked list of habits, which is what the following weeks attack. We do not distribute mark schemes, which are copyright material; we work from them and link the official sources.

Can one tutor take both our children's maths if they are in Years 9 and 11?+

Usually yes for maths specifically, because the content is continuous and one specialist can hold both ends of it. The practical caveats are that each child needs their own slot, since these are one-to-one lessons, and that a Core-route Year 10 and a Higher-tier Year 11 need genuinely different past-paper diets even within the same subject. Tell us both year groups, boards and routes at the enquiry and we will say honestly whether one tutor fits or whether two is the better arrangement.

How does an online maths lesson actually work from Emaar South?+

A video call at a fixed Gulf Standard Time slot with a shared writing surface, so the tutor writes a line and the student writes the next and both see the same page. For marking a script together it is better than a single paper copy passed across a table, because both people can annotate. The scheduling gain is the bigger one here: a 4.30pm start catches a student who can still hold an algebraic manipulation, while a 6.15pm start after a tutor has crossed Dubai catches one who makes sign errors.

What if my child's problem is reading the question rather than the maths?+

It is a common and frequently misdiagnosed case, particularly where English is an additional language, and it shows up most in requests from the apartment communities in this catchment. The signature is correct mathematics applied to a slightly different problem from the one on the page. Treating it as a maths weakness wastes the term. The work instead is comprehension discipline: underline what is being asked before any calculation, restate the question in the student's own words, then solve. It is quick to fix once it is correctly named.

Can we pause maths sessions during Ramadan and the mock period?+

Yes, though for maths we usually suggest changing the shape rather than pausing. Fluency decays faster in mathematics than in content subjects, so two shorter sessions a week hold more than one long one when a student is fasting, and a complete pause often means relearning in the first week back. During Ramadan the hour typically moves to early afternoon or post-iftar. Because nobody is travelling to your address, shifting a slot is a calendar change rather than a renegotiation, and it moves back just as easily afterwards.

Pick the model, confirm the code, then send a paper

If you are comparing options for an IGCSE maths tutor in Jebel Ali, the order that saves the most time is: decide which of the four tuition models fits your child, confirm whether they sit Cambridge 0580 or Edexcel 4MA1 and on which route, then send one marked paper. A specialist on that specification reads it, tells you whether the lost marks are habits or content, and teaches a free one-to-one trial lesson online at a Gulf Standard Time hour that works from Jebel Ali, Al Furjan, Green Community or Emaar South. The written diagnosis is yours whether or not you continue.
