IB Classes in the UAE

IB classes in the UAE work best when they are dated. Every family across the UAE is working to the same fixed point: the first paper of the May session. This page counts the two Diploma years backwards from that paper, window by window, so you can see what should already be finished and what still has time. Lessons run live online, one-to-one, on Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in the UAE

The IB year is a countdown, and most families start counting too late

Parents searching for IB classes in the UAE almost always type the words in the same week: the week a mock result lands, or the week a school emails about Internal Assessment deadlines. By then the calendar has already decided a good deal. Some things can still be changed cheaply in that week, some are expensive to change, and a few are fixed. The difference between those three categories is not a matter of effort or of how good the teaching is. It is a matter of how many weeks are left, and what those weeks are legally and practically allowed to contain.

So this page is built as a calendar rather than as a brochure. It starts twenty-four months before the first paper, at the point where subject choices and the Higher Level decision are made, and it walks forward in windows: the Internal Assessment term, the entry and registration term, mocks, the Ramadan question, the twelve-week revision block, the final fortnight, results day, and the enquiry and retake window after it. Each window has an owner. Some deadlines belong to the school, some to the exam board, some to the Ministry of Education, and only a few belong to you.

Knowing the owner matters more than it sounds. A school's internal Internal Assessment deadline can sometimes be negotiated by a week; a Cambridge final entry deadline cannot be negotiated at all, and Cambridge publishes its own worked example of how far ahead it sits. For the March 2027 Cambridge series, the exam period runs from 3 February to 4 March 2027, but final entries were due on 27 November 2026 — a little over two months before the first paper, and well before most families have thought about exams. Pearson works to its own published series pattern, with Edexcel International GCSE exams available in May/June and November each year.

The IB's own dates are the one thing this page will not print. The IB publishes its session windows on ibo.org, that page refuses automated checking, and an exam date that is wrong by a week is worse than no date at all. So the shape of the calendar is here, the Cambridge and Pearson dates are here with their sources, and the exact IB session dates are a question for your child's Diploma coordinator. Ask for them in writing, in September of the second Diploma year, and build everything else around them.

Lessons themselves are delivered online, one-to-one, over live video. IB Gram does not send a tutor to a UAE address; home visits are a service offered only in India. That is not a limitation hidden in a footnote — on a calendar-driven plan it is an advantage, because a specialist in the exact subject and level your child needs can start in the week you need them rather than whenever someone within a reasonable drive happens to be free. The sections below say what each window should contain, what the market charges for it, and where families most often lose the weeks they thought they had.

At a glance

  • Twenty-four months out: subject and Higher Level choices, including the maths route
  • Eighteen months out: Internal Assessment topics approved and data collection started
  • Twelve months out: exam entries, timetable zone confirmed, private-candidate questions settled
  • Twelve weeks out: a counted revision block with hours per subject, not a vague push
  • After results: the enquiry window, the remark decision and the November session retake question
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Each IB programme has its own calendar shape, and the deadlines that matter are different in each. The notes below say where the pressure points sit for UAE families in particular, because the UAE school year, the mandatory Ministry subjects and the May session interact differently at each stage.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

The PYP has no external exams, so the calendar is driven by units of inquiry, the exhibition in the final year, and the point at which a child transfers into MYP. Classes at this stage are about building the reading, writing and number fluency the MYP will assume, and about the exhibition process: research questions, note-taking, and presenting work that is genuinely the child's own.

In the UAE the PYP runs alongside the mandatory Ministry subjects from the start, so a Year 5 week already contains Arabic, Islamic Education for Muslim pupils, and Moral, Social and Cultural Studies. KHDA calculates its mandatory-subject time in 40-minute lesson units, which is why adding a weekly class after school needs a realistic look at what the day already holds before anything is booked.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

MYP is assessed against criteria rather than marks out of 100, which is where most parents lose the thread. A child can be working hard and still sit at a 4 because one criterion is never addressed. MYP classes are most useful when they decode the criteria the school is actually using, then rehearse the specific skill each one rewards, ending with the Personal Project in the final year.

The MYP-to-Diploma handover is the sharpest calendar point in the UAE, because many families also consider moving to an IGCSE school at the same age. A decision made in Year 9 about MYP mathematics shapes which Diploma maths route is realistic two years later, and that in turn shapes what the Ministry of Education will later count towards equivalency. This window closes quietly, without a letter home.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

The Diploma is six subjects, three normally at Higher Level, plus the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and CAS. Twenty-four points are needed for the award and forty-five is the maximum, including up to three bonus points from the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge together. Almost every deadline in these two years is internal until the final term, which is exactly why families miss them.

UAE Diploma students normally sit the May session, and the November session exists mainly for retakes and for schools on a different academic year. That single fact sets the whole countdown: a September start in the first Diploma year is twenty months from the first paper, and a September start in the second year is about eight. Both are workable; they are not the same plan, and they should not cost the same.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

The CP combines at least two Diploma courses with a career-related study, a reflective project, a language development strand and personal and professional skills. Its calendar is less uniform than the Diploma's because the career-related component is set by the provider rather than the IB, so the deadlines come from two directions at once and need writing down in one place.

CP is offered by a small number of UAE schools, and families on it often find that general IB advice online does not fit. Classes here tend to focus on the Diploma courses taken inside the CP, where the external assessment and session dates behave exactly as they do for a full Diploma candidate, and on the reflective project as a process rather than as a piece of writing someone else contributes to.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Subjects are listed here with the deadline that actually bites in each one. In most Diploma subjects the internal component is not the hardest part academically — it is the part with the earliest hard date, and the part a family discovers late.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The exploration is twenty per cent of the grade at both levels and is marked against five criteria. Higher Level adds Paper 3, a short problem-solving paper that rewards unfamiliar extended questions. The calendar point: a topic chosen in the spring of the first year leaves time to collect and model data properly; one chosen in the autumn of the second year rarely does.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Same exploration weighting and criteria, different emphasis: statistics, modelling and technology use run through the papers. Higher Level again carries Paper 3. Families switching from Analysis and Approaches after the first term need to know what transfers and what does not, and that the switch window is usually set by the school rather than by the IB.

Physics

HL and SL

The scientific investigation is a single internally assessed task of up to 3,000 words, weighted at twenty per cent, marked across research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. The common failure is a question that cannot generate enough usable data. That is a decision made months before the write-up, which is why it belongs in the first-year calendar, not the second.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Organic chemistry and energetics absorb the most class time, but the earliest date is the investigation. Online IB Higher Level classes handle the practical side by working on the design, the uncertainty treatment and the data analysis, while the apparatus work stays in the school laboratory where the school supervises it.

Biology

HL and SL

Command terms decide marks here more than content recall does: outline, explain, evaluate and suggest each want a different shape of answer. The investigation needs a measurable variable and repeat readings. A class that starts in the second year usually spends its first fortnight repairing a question that was too broad to produce a conclusion.

Economics

HL and SL

The internal assessment is three commentaries, each capped at 800 words, each built on a different article and a different unit of the course, together worth twenty per cent. Because they are spread across both years, they are the component most often left as a block of three in one panicked month. Diary them at the start of the first year instead.

Business Management

HL and SL

Paper answers live and die on applying a tool to the stimulus rather than describing the tool. The internal project needs a real organisation willing to supply information, and in the UAE that permission can take weeks to obtain. Securing the organisation is itself a calendar task, separate from any writing.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

The Individual Oral is a fifteen-minute assessment combining a presentation and questions, and it is a fifth of the grade. Higher Level adds the HL essay of 1,200 to 1,500 words. Both are internal, both are scheduled by the school, and both reward rehearsal over rewriting — which is also the only legitimate way a class can help with them.

English B

HL and SL

Reading and listening papers move faster than most students expect, and the individual oral is based on a stimulus the school selects. For families who moved to the UAE mid-Diploma, this is often the subject where the previous school's approach differs most, so the first few classes are usually spent mapping the gap rather than teaching new content.

Computer Science

HL and SL

The solution requires a real client, a documented design and working code, and the client relationship takes real calendar time to establish. Higher Level adds the case study published ahead of the session, which is a genuine revision advantage: it is one piece of the paper that can be prepared early with certainty.

Geography

HL and SL

The fieldwork write-up depends on data the school's trip generates, so the date is fixed by the trip, not by the student. Higher Level adds the core extension paper. Classes are most useful immediately after fieldwork, while the data is fresh and the methodology can still be defended in writing.

History

HL and SL

The historical investigation is a short, tightly structured piece with a source-evaluation section that carries disproportionate marks for its length. Higher Level adds a regional options paper. Students who choose a question with no accessible sources lose weeks, and that loss is only visible once the first draft stalls.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways of working, chosen by where you are in the countdown rather than by preference. A family twenty months out needs something different from a family nine weeks out, and paying for the wrong one is the commonest waste in this market.

Weekly one-to-one, pinned to the school's own calendar

One hour or ninety minutes a week per subject, live online with one tutor and one student, booked at the same slot each week so it survives the school term. The plan starts from your child's school deadlines rather than a generic syllabus order, which means the week before an internal deadline looks different from an ordinary week.

  • Same tutor, same slot, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time
  • Session order follows the school's internal deadlines, not a textbook
  • A short written note after each lesson saying what was covered and what is next
  • Pauses available for school exam weeks and family travel

A counted revision block before the session

A fixed number of hours across a fixed number of weeks, agreed in advance and mapped to papers rather than to topics. This is the format for a family that starts late: it names what will not be covered, which is more useful than pretending everything can be. The IB revision block is planned backwards from the first paper in that subject.

  • Hours per subject per week agreed before the block starts
  • Past-paper work under timed conditions from the official board materials
  • A written list of what the block deliberately leaves out
  • A mid-block review that can reallocate hours between subjects

Coursework supervision windows

Short, scheduled sessions around the Internal Assessment, Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge deadlines, spaced so that the student does the work between them. The tutor reads, questions and gives feedback on what the student has produced. No part of an assessed task is ever produced for the student, and that boundary is stated to the family before the first session.

  • Topic and research-question feasibility checked before data collection starts
  • Feedback against the criteria letters the subject guide actually uses
  • Spacing that leaves the student time to revise their own draft
  • A record of what was discussed, which the student can show their supervisor

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in the UAE

01

What a parent is actually asking when they search for IB classes in the UAE

IB classes in the UAE, in the sense parents mean, are scheduled one-to-one teaching in a named IB subject at a named level, timed against a specific exam session. The useful question is never whether classes help in general. It is which weeks are left, what those weeks are capable of changing, and whose deadline comes first. That is why this page is organised as a countdown rather than as a list of services.

The table below is the master version. It has four columns because four things need to be true of every window: you need to know how far out you are, what the window exists to do, what should be finished by the end of it, and who owns the deadline. The owner column is the one families find most useful, because it tells you who to email. A school deadline is a conversation with a coordinator. A board deadline is a form with a date on it. A Ministry deadline is a process you start yourself.

Read the table from the top if your child is in the first Diploma year and from the bottom if the papers are close. Neither direction is wrong. What does not work is treating all of it as one undifferentiated pile of work to be got through, because the earliest windows are the cheap ones. Hours spent at twenty months out are worth several hours spent at eight weeks out, not because effort compounds mysteriously but because at twenty months the choices are still reversible.

One caution before the dates. Cambridge and Pearson publish their series dates openly and this page quotes them with the source named. The IB publishes its own session windows on ibo.org, and no IB session or results date in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself, so none is printed here. Ask your child's Diploma coordinator for the session dates in writing and treat that as the fixed point everything else hangs from.

Twenty-four months out: the choice that is cheap now and expensive later

The single most consequential decision in the whole Diploma is made before any teaching happens: which six subjects, which three at Higher Level, and for mathematics, which of the two routes. It is made in a week when nobody is thinking about exams, usually on the strength of a conversation about what a child enjoys. Enjoyment is a reasonable input. It is not the only one, and the other inputs are mostly about the destination rather than the starting point.

The maths decision deserves its own table because it is the one that most often has to be reversed, and reversing it is expensive. Analysis and Approaches is the more proof-and-algebra route; Applications and Interpretation leans on statistics, modelling and the deliberate use of technology. Both carry an exploration worth twenty per cent of the grade and both add a third paper at Higher Level. Neither is the easy one, which is the premise most families start from and the one that causes the trouble.

What should drive the choice is the course your child may want at university, and the only reliable source for that is the published entry requirement of the specific programme at the specific institution. Engineering, physics and many economics degrees commonly ask for Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level; some do not. Read the prospectus of the actual programme rather than a summary of what universities generally want, and do it in the first Diploma year while a change is still administratively possible.

If the choice has already been made and looks wrong, there is usually a switch window in the first term of the first Diploma year, set by the school rather than by the IB. That window is the thing to ask about immediately, not at the end of the year. After it closes, the realistic response is not a change of course but a change of plan: more hours on the specific papers that route sets, and a frank look at whether Higher Level remains the right level in that one subject.

03

Eighteen months out: the Internal Assessment windows nobody writes down

Internal Assessment is where the Diploma quietly front-loads itself. In most subjects it is worth around a fifth of the final grade, it is marked by the school and moderated by the IB, and its real deadline is not the submission date but the date by which the student must have something to write about. A physics investigation needs data that works. An economics commentary needs an article from the right unit. A geography write-up needs the fieldwork to have happened. None of those can be conjured in the final term.

The table below lists the internal components UAE families ask about most, with the criteria and the published limits attached. Treat the figures as the shape of the task and confirm the exact current detail against the subject guide your child's school holds, because guides are revised and the school's copy is the one the moderator will use. The column that matters most is the last one: what a class is allowed to do. The honest answer is narrow, and saying so is the point.

The commonest failure in this window is not laziness. It is a research question that cannot produce a conclusion — too broad, too dependent on data that does not exist, or too close to a textbook result for any personal engagement to show. That failure is invisible until a draft stalls, by which time weeks have gone. A single feasibility conversation at the topic stage costs one hour and saves a month, which makes it the best-value hour in the entire two years.

Diary the internal deadlines yourself, in one place, with the school's dates rather than the IB's. Ask the coordinator in September of the first Diploma year for every internal submission date across all six subjects, plus the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge milestones. Schools set these independently and they cluster: three subjects can land in the same fortnight. Seeing that clash six months early is the difference between a hard fortnight and a lost one.

Twelve months out: entries, registration and the deadline that cannot move

This is the window where the calendar stops being advisory. Exam entries are submitted by the school to the board, to a published date, and after that date the options narrow sharply and get more expensive. Families almost never see this deadline because it is handled between the school and the board. You should still know when it falls, because a subject dropped or a level changed after entries have gone is a different and harder conversation.

Cambridge publishes the clearest worked example of how far ahead an entry deadline sits. For the March 2027 series, the exam period runs 3 February to 4 March 2027, final entries were due 27 November 2026, forecast grades are due 27 February 2027, results are released on Cambridge Direct on 13 May and certificates follow in late June. That is a final entry deadline more than two months before the first paper, published on cambridgeinternational.org. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE exams are available in May/June and November, and the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026.

There is a Cambridge detail worth more than it looks. Every exam centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong zone timetable. Ask the school which zone it sits in and get the zone-specific timetable, not the generic one circulating in a parents' group. Pearson also publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so link the live official timetable rather than relying on a date someone copied out.

For the IB itself, the registration mechanics mirror this pattern — entries are made by the school well before the session, and candidate registration, subject levels and any private-candidate arrangement are settled months ahead. The exact dates must come from your coordinator or from the IB's own assessment pages, because the IB's published windows were not verifiable for this page. Get them in writing, put them in the same document as the Cambridge and Pearson dates if your child sits more than one board, and work backwards from the earliest one.

Nine months out: mocks, and reading the result instead of reacting to it

  • Ask for marks per paper and per question type, not the overall grade
  • Separate the four causes: unknown content, misread command term, poor timing, careless accuracy
  • Fix timing first — it is the fastest-moving of the four
  • Set the date of the next measured check before leaving the meeting

Mocks exist to produce information, and most families extract about a tenth of what is available. The grade is the least useful part. What matters is the distribution of lost marks: which paper, which command term, which topic, and whether marks were lost because the content was not known or because the paper was not finished. Those four causes need four different responses, and only one of them is solved by more teaching of more content.

Ask the school for the mark breakdown per paper, not just the overall grade, and if possible for the script itself. A Higher Level science candidate who drops twelve marks across data-analysis questions and two marks across recall questions does not have a knowledge problem. A candidate who finishes two questions short on every paper has a timing problem, and timing is trainable in a few weeks. Conflating the two is how a family spends four months on the wrong thing.

Mock season is also the honest moment to revisit the Higher Level question. If one Higher Level subject is consistently several grades below the other two and the cause is content depth rather than technique, the conversation about moving that subject to Standard Level is a legitimate one, and it has a deadline attached that the school sets. It is an uncomfortable conversation, and it is cheaper in January than in March.

This is also where a plan should get written down. After mocks there are roughly nine months to the session, enough for genuine repair work, and little enough that the hours need allocating rather than assuming. A plan at this point names the two subjects getting the most hours, the component in each where the marks are being lost, and the date of the next honest measurement. Without that last item, the next real data point is the exam itself, which is too late to act on.

06

Six months out: Ramadan, Eid and where the revision block actually lands

Any revision plan built for a UAE family has to survive Ramadan, and most generic plans do not. School hours shorten, the shape of the day inverts, and the useful hours for concentrated academic work move to the late evening after Iftar or to the hour before Suhoor for students who prefer that. Treating this as an interruption to be endured is the wrong frame. It is a known feature of the calendar, it recurs annually, and it can be planned for twelve months ahead.

The practical approach is to decide in advance which weeks are reduced and to protect the weeks either side rather than attempting to run a normal schedule through the middle. A Diploma student can hold a reduced load of shorter, later sessions through Ramadan, then return to full length immediately afterwards. Eid holidays then create a short block of completely free days, which is unusually good for past-paper work under timed conditions because there is no school day either side of it.

The school calendar has its own collisions in this window. Internal deadlines for the Extended Essay and for most Internal Assessments tend to cluster here, and in some years they land within days of each other and of a school exam week. Mapping the school calendar, the Ramadan window and the internal deadlines onto one page in September is a thirty-minute job that changes which weeks are realistically available for revision.

Scheduling itself is a smaller problem than it looks, because lessons are online. A post-Iftar slot that would be impossible for a travelling arrangement — the roads at that hour decide it — is straightforward over live video, and so is the reverse shift afterwards. The thing worth agreeing explicitly is who may change the slot and with how much notice, so the plan does not quietly dissolve over a month of ad hoc rescheduling.

07

Twelve weeks out: a revision block counted in hours, not in good intentions

Twelve weeks before the first paper, the work changes character. New content stops being the priority; retrieval, timing and paper technique take over. The useful unit of planning becomes hours per subject per week, agreed in advance and written down, because the instinct at this stage is to spread attention evenly across six subjects and that is almost always wrong. Marks are concentrated in a few components, and so should the hours be.

The table below is a template rather than a prescription, and the numbers assume a student carrying three Higher Level subjects alongside school. What makes it work is the fourth column. Every revision plan at this stage is a decision about what to abandon, and stating that explicitly — this topic will not be revised, this paper gets one timed attempt rather than three — is what keeps the plan from collapsing in week four under its own ambition.

Past papers are the engine of this block, and they come from the board, not from a tutor's private collection. Use the official materials your school holds or supplies; nobody should be sending you copies of syllabus documents, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables, and a provider offering a downloadable library of them is telling you something about how it operates. Classes work best when the student has already attempted the paper cold and timed, and the hour is spent on the marks that went missing.

Hold one review point in the middle. At six weeks out, re-measure with a full timed paper in the two weakest subjects and reallocate hours accordingly. The reallocation is the whole value of the review: a plan that cannot move hours between subjects after new evidence is a schedule, not a plan, and the evidence at six weeks is far better than the evidence at twelve.

The final fortnight, and the three things that still move a grade

  • Rehearse finishing the paper, not just answering it
  • Practise choosing between optional questions against the clock
  • Check the zone-specific timetable, start times and permitted equipment
  • Stop all new material; protect sleep as part of the plan

In the last two weeks, almost nothing about what a student knows will change. What can still change is how much of that knowledge reaches the paper, and there are three levers. The first is timing: finishing the paper. A student who routinely leaves a question blank is losing marks that require no new learning to recover, and two weeks of deliberate timing practice recovers most of them. This is the highest-return work available at this point.

The second is question selection and command terms. Papers that offer a choice reward a fast, accurate decision about which question the student can actually answer well, and that decision is a trainable skill separate from the content. Command terms are the same story: a student who writes an explanation where the paper asked for an evaluation has demonstrated knowledge and still lost the marks. Both are fixable in a fortnight because neither requires new content.

The third is the administrative fortnight itself — the part nobody plans. Confirm the zone-specific timetable, confirm the start times, confirm what equipment is permitted, confirm the calculator model is allowed, and check the sequence of papers so that a two-paper day is not a surprise. Cambridge is explicit that using the wrong zone's timetable is the candidate's problem, which is an unusually high price for a clerical error.

What should stop in this window is as important. New material stops. New resources stop. Comparisons with other students stop. Sleep becomes a performance variable rather than a luxury. A class in the final fortnight that introduces a new topic is doing harm, however well intentioned, and a plan that still has new content in it at this stage was mis-scheduled somewhere around week nine.

Results day, enquiries and the November session decision

Results day has its own short calendar, and it moves faster than families expect. Grades arrive, and within a tight published window there are decisions to make about whether to query anything. Boards run a formal process for this — Cambridge releases results on Direct to centres before certificates follow, and an enquiry about a result is raised through the school rather than by a parent directly. The window is short enough that the decision has to be prepared before the grades arrive, not after.

An enquiry is worth raising when there is a specific reason to think a mark is wrong: a grade far below every mock and every predicted grade, a component result that contradicts the pattern of the others, or a known problem during the exam itself that was reported at the time. It is not a general appeal against a disappointing outcome, and a remark can move a grade down as well as up. Ask the school what the process costs, what the deadline is, and what evidence they think supports it.

The retake question is the other decision, and it is genuinely a calendar question. A November session exists, and for a UAE student it usually means a focused few months on one or two subjects rather than a repeat of the whole Diploma. Weigh it against what the university offer actually requires: some offers can be deferred, some cannot, and the answer changes the value of a retake completely. Get the offer condition in writing before deciding anything.

If a retake is the plan, the countdown restarts immediately and it is short. The useful shape is a diagnostic in the first week to identify exactly which components lost the marks, a block of timed paper work through the middle, and a re-entry handled by the school to the board's published deadline. The one thing that does not work is waiting until the new academic year starts to begin, because by then a third of the available weeks have gone.

10

The deadline nobody counts backwards from: Ministry of Education equivalency

There is one more date, and it sits outside the exam calendar entirely. A UAE secondary certificate equivalency from the Ministry of Education is what converts an international school leaving qualification into something UAE institutions and employers recognise. Families discover it late — often in the summer after results, when everyone wants the same document at the same time — and the process is administrative, so it rewards starting early and punishes nothing except delay.

For the British track the requirements are published and specific. A student must show five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no lower than E or grade 3, plus either one accredited subject at Advanced Level at a grade no lower than E or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects. One competitor page currently ranking states that UAE candidates must take six IGCSE subjects; the published figure is five, and it is worth checking any claim like that against the authority rather than against a tutoring site.

For the American track, English proficiency is evidenced by a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying. For the IB there is no points threshold printed on this page, because none could be verified on the Ministry's own pages — and an invented number here would be worse than useless, since the whole point of the document is that it is checked.

Treat equivalency as a process you own, not a service someone performs for you. The Ministry sets the rules and the emirate attestation channels handle documents; a tutoring provider has no role in it beyond telling you it exists and when to start. Nothing about it requires tutoring, and any page suggesting that extra classes are needed to obtain equivalency is describing a regulatory process as a sales opportunity.

Academic honesty when a deadline is close

  • A class teaches, questions and gives feedback on work the student has already written
  • No part of an assessed task is produced, supplied or edited to completion for a student
  • Board materials are referenced and linked, never reproduced or handed over as downloads
  • A provider selling finished coursework is a risk to the student, not a shortcut

The pressure in this market concentrates at exactly the point where the rules matter most: a fortnight before an Internal Assessment deadline, with a student who has not started. That is when a family is offered a shortcut, and the UAE search results contain providers who sell finished Internal Assessments outright. One of them lists a price for a completed Internal Assessment. That is an academic-integrity breach, it triggers the IB's malpractice process, and the consequence lands on the student, not the seller.

The boundary a legitimate class works inside is narrow and easy to state. A tutor may teach the subject, explain the criteria, challenge a research question, point out that a conclusion does not follow from the data, ask what a paragraph is for, and hand the draft back for the student to revise. A tutor may not produce any part of an assessed task, supply text for it, or edit it to completion. Every sentence that is submitted has to be the student's own, and the student signs to that effect.

This is not only a rules question; it is also why the earlier windows in this page matter so much. A student who starts the exploration in the spring of the first Diploma year has months of legitimate help available. A student who starts it two weeks before submission has almost none, because the only thing that would rescue the deadline is the thing nobody may do. The calendar, in other words, is also the academic-honesty plan.

Two related points on materials. Nobody should supply you with reproductions of IB, Cambridge or Pearson syllabus documents, mark schemes, grade-boundary tables or subject guides; those belong to the boards and should be referenced and linked, not copied. And a provider describing its tutors as examiners should be asked to evidence current examiner status, because examiner status is often used to imply an access to marking and boundaries that it does not confer.

What IB classes cost across the UAE market, and how timing changes the bill

Published UAE tutoring rates are scarce, which is itself informative: of the competitor pages examined for this page, several publish no price at all and two quote in US dollars, a currency UAE families do not transact in. The bands below are market rates collected from providers' own published pages and from Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table. They are the market, not an IB Gram price list, and each row names where the figure comes from.

The pattern across the bands is consistent. Online one-to-one with a qualified subject specialist sits well below an in-home visit for the same hour, because the in-home figure contains travel: Bestimate puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors advertise AED 200 to 500, while online qualified-tutor rates start around AED 150 and specialist IB and IGCSE work runs AED 200 to 450 and above. Monthly packages seen in the market include around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions.

Timing is the variable families control and rarely think about. The same subject help costs less per unit of benefit in September than in March, not because rates rise on a schedule but because specialist availability tightens as the session approaches and because late help has to be compressed into fewer, longer sessions. Starting at twenty months out also means fewer total hours are needed, since the expensive work is repair rather than instruction.

IB Gram's own arrangement is deliberately not a price list on this page. Lessons are one-to-one and online, the first trial lesson is free — one per student, arranged before anything is paid for and with no card details taken to book it — and the rate depends on the subject, the level and whether a coursework supervision window is involved. Ask for it against your actual plan, with the hours and the session date in front of you, because a rate per hour without a number of hours attached tells you very little.

Why online delivery is the right fit for a dated plan

  • Specialist match by subject and level, not by who is within driving distance
  • Slots on Gulf Standard Time, including late-evening and post-Iftar timing
  • No travel on either side, so a ninety-minute lesson costs ninety minutes
  • Practical apparatus work stays at school; design, analysis and evaluation are taught online

Every class described on this page runs live online, one-to-one, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send a tutor to an address in the UAE, and home visits are a service offered only in India. Saying so plainly matters, because several providers in these search results route UAE enquiries to an overseas number without ever stating where the teaching actually happens, which is the trust failure that the honest version avoids.

On a calendar-driven plan the online format is the thing that makes the plan possible. A countdown only works if the right specialist can start in the week the plan says, in the exact subject and at the exact level. A family in Fujairah or Umm Al Quwain looking for a Higher Level chemistry specialist is not choosing between online and local; locally there may be nobody at that level, and the alternative to online is a compromise on specialism. In Dubai the pool is deeper, but the binding constraint becomes the drive at 17:00.

The format also removes the two things that most often break a schedule. Travel time disappears from both sides, so a ninety-minute session costs ninety minutes rather than three hours of someone's evening, and a post-Iftar or late-evening slot during Ramadan is as easy to run as a 16:30 one. Sessions can shift with a school exam week or a family trip without the whole arrangement unravelling, because there is no journey to re-plan.

What online delivery does not do is supervise practical work, and pretending otherwise would be dishonest. Laboratory apparatus work for the sciences stays at school under the school's supervision. What a class contributes there is the design of the investigation, the treatment of uncertainty, the data analysis and the evaluation — which is where the marks in that component sit anyway, as the criteria make clear.

Where we tutor

The seven emirates, and what changes about the calendar in each

The IB Diploma exam calendar is federal in the sense that the session is the same everywhere, but the surrounding calendar is not. The regulator differs by emirate, the school year start can differ, and the practical question of when a class can begin on a weekday differs a great deal.

Dubai

Regulated by KHDA, which oversees the quality of private education in the emirate. Dubai is also where the IB is most concentrated, with the IB accounting for around seven per cent of a private sector of 227 schools in 2024-25. Weekday classes usually start from 16:30 once the school run is clear.

Abu Dhabi

ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. Island and mainland commutes differ by close to an hour in the afternoon, so Diploma families on the islands more often take the later evening slot and keep the earlier one for a sibling in MYP.

Al Ain

Also ADEK territory, with fewer IB schools than the capital, which makes a Higher Level specialist harder to find locally and online delivery the practical answer. Summer heat pushes activity later into the evening, and the revision block before the May session usually settles around a 19:00 start.

Sharjah

The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in the emirate and approves fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods — so more than inspection sits with SPEA. Many Sharjah families commute into Dubai for work, which pushes the realistic class start later than a Dubai-resident family needs.

Ajman

Private schools here are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education rather than an emirate-level authority. The IB footprint is small, so families frequently sit outside the nearest IB school's catchment and plan around a school day that ends earlier than in Dubai, which opens up a genuinely useful late-afternoon slot.

Ras Al Khaimah

Private education in Ras Al Khaimah is regulated by its own Department of Knowledge, which, like SPEA, approves curricula and assessment methods as well as fees. The emirate appears in almost no national tutoring content, and distance from Dubai makes any travelling-tutor arrangement expensive in time before it is expensive in money.

Fujairah

Ministry of Education territory on the east coast, with a short list of international schools and a long drive to the next one. For a Diploma subject at Higher Level, the local pool is the binding constraint rather than the budget, which is why online IB classes are the normal arrangement here rather than the fallback.

Umm Al Quwain

Also supervised federally by the Ministry of Education. The smallest private-school market in the country, and the one where a specific subject-and-level combination is least likely to be covered nearby. Families here tend to plan the whole two-year countdown online from the start rather than switching to it mid-course.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in the UAE

Dubai

Dubai's IB schools sit mostly along the Sheikh Zayed Road corridor and in the southern communities, and their internal coursework calendars vary by several weeks. Students we support attend schools of this kind; the first question in a trial lesson is always which internal deadlines their own school has set, because that is the calendar the plan has to obey.

  • Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills
  • GEMS World Academy Dubai
  • Deira International School
  • Uptown International School
  • Dwight School Dubai
  • Greenfield International School
  • Dubai American Academy

Abu Dhabi and Al Ain

In ADEK territory the inspection framework and the reporting language differ from Dubai's, and so does the rhythm of internal assessment deadlines. Students we support attend schools in this cluster, and the capital's island-to-mainland commute is a real factor in choosing a weekday class time during the revision block.

  • Raha International School
  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • GEMS World Academy Abu Dhabi
  • The British International School Abu Dhabi
  • Repton School Abu Dhabi

Sharjah and the northern emirates

Outside Dubai and Abu Dhabi the IB is thinner on the ground and a single school may be the only one offering a given Higher Level subject for some distance. Students we support attend schools in these emirates, where the shortage of local specialists is the practical reason a family plans the countdown online.

  • Victoria International School of Sharjah
  • Sharjah English School
  • American School of Creative Science Sharjah
  • Delhi Private School Sharjah
  • Ras Al Khaimah Academy
  • Fujairah Private Academy

Schools are named here as context for the UAE IB landscape only; no affiliation, partnership or endorsement is implied, and IB Gram is independent of all of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the session date first

The opening question is not which subject but which session, and what your child's school has set as its internal deadlines. With those dates, the subjects and the levels, the plan can be built backwards rather than forwards, which is the difference between a schedule and a countdown.

  2. 02

A free trial lesson, before anything is paid for

One free trial lesson per student, arranged before any payment and with no card details taken to book it. It is a working lesson, not a sales call: the tutor teaches something real, and you get a short written note of where the gap sits and what the first six weeks would cover.

  3. 03

A written countdown, with what is excluded

You receive the plan in writing: hours per subject per week, which components are being targeted, when the next measured check falls, and what the plan deliberately leaves out. The exclusions are the honest part. A plan that claims to cover everything in nine weeks is not a plan.

  4. 04

Weekly lessons, with a note after each one

Lessons run at the same slot each week with the same tutor, live online. After each one you get a short note of what was covered and what comes next, so the plan stays visible rather than living in the tutor's head. Slots pause for school exam weeks and travel.

  5. 05

    Re-measure, then reallocate hours

At the halfway point of any block, and immediately after mocks, the student sits a full timed paper in the weakest subjects and the hours get reallocated on the evidence. A plan that cannot move hours between subjects after new information is not responding to your child; it is just a timetable.

  6. 06

    Results, and whatever comes next

Before results arrive we agree what would justify an enquiry upon results and who raises it, since that window is short and runs through the school. If a November session retake becomes the plan, the countdown restarts in the first week rather than in the new academic year.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The plan is dated, not generic

Every plan starts from your child's session and your child's school deadlines, including the internal Internal Assessment and Extended Essay dates that schools set independently. A plan built on a generic syllabus order ignores the clustering of those dates, which is where most of the avoidable pressure in the Diploma comes from.

Rates on this page are attributed

Every AED figure here names the provider or rate table it came from and the month it was collected. Three of the competitor pages examined publish no price at all and two quote in dollars. A number without a source is not information, and a page that shows its working is easier to check.

The coursework boundary is stated upfront

Help with an Internal Assessment, Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge essay is feedback on work the student has already produced. No part of an assessed task is produced or supplied, and the boundary is explained to the family before the first session rather than discovered during a difficult week.

Specialism by subject and level

Matching is done on the exact subject and level, which is the whole practical argument for online delivery. A Higher Level physics candidate in Ras Al Khaimah gets a Higher Level physics specialist, rather than the best generalist available within a reasonable drive of the house.

The regulator and the rules are explained, not borrowed

This page names KHDA, ADEK, SPEA and the Ministry of Education because UAE families have to work inside them. IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation or licence from any of them and claims none; what you get is an explanation of what each one does and where to check it.

Availability is disclosed, not assumed

If no specialist is free for a subject and level in the week you need, you are told that in the first conversation, along with when one is expected and what the alternative would be. A page that implies instant availability for every Higher Level subject across seven emirates is not describing a real roster.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in the UAE: your questions answered

How far ahead of the May session should IB classes start?+

The honest answer depends on what you want them to do. To influence subject and level choices, including the maths route, classes need to start around twenty-four months out, in the first Diploma year. To do Internal Assessment work properly, eighteen months. To repair content gaps found in mocks, nine months is enough. To fix timing, question selection and command-term accuracy, twelve weeks works. All four are legitimate starting points; they are different plans with different costs. What does not work is expecting a six-week block to do the twenty-four-month job.

What should a Diploma student have finished by the end of the first year?+

By the end of the first Diploma year a student should have an approved Extended Essay research question and a supervisor allocated, Internal Assessment topics agreed in most subjects, any mathematics exploration data or model identified rather than merely imagined, at least one economics commentary written if they take economics, and the Theory of Knowledge exhibition complete. The exact list is set by your school, not by the IB, so ask the coordinator in September for every internal date across all six subjects. Seeing where three deadlines collide is the single most useful thing on that list.

When is the final entry deadline for Cambridge exams, and who submits it?+

Entries are submitted by the school to the board, not by parents, and they fall months before the papers. Cambridge's own key dates for the March 2027 series put final entries on 27 November 2026 against an exam period of 3 February to 4 March 2027, with forecast grades due 27 February 2027 and results on Cambridge Direct on 13 May. Pearson runs its own published series pattern for International GCSE, with exams available in May/June and November. Ask the school for the exact entry deadline that applies to your child's board and series, and treat it as immovable.

Does the exam timetable depend on which zone our school is in?+

For Cambridge, yes. Every exam centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong zone timetable. So the generic timetable circulating in a parents' group is not reliable for your child. Ask the school which zone it is in, get the zone-specific timetable, and check it again in the final fortnight. Pearson also issues provisional timetables that are later revised, so always work from the live official version.

How many hours a week of IB classes are realistic twelve weeks before the first paper?+

For a student carrying three Higher Level subjects alongside school, around one and a half to two hours a week per priority subject is sustainable twelve weeks out, rising to around two and a half in the four-to-six-week window and dropping back to about an hour in the final fortnight. The number matters less than the allocation. Spreading hours evenly across six subjects is the common mistake, because marks are concentrated in a few components. Decide which two subjects get the most hours, write down what the plan is abandoning, and re-measure at six weeks.

Our child's mock results came back two grades down. What should happen next?+

Get the mark breakdown per paper and per question type before changing anything. Marks go missing for four different reasons: content that was not known, a command term that was misread, a paper that was not finished, and careless accuracy. Each needs a different response, and only the first is solved by more teaching. Timing is usually the fastest to fix and often the largest single loss. Mock season is also the honest point to revisit whether one Higher Level subject should move to Standard Level, and that decision has a school-set deadline attached.

How do we plan revision around Ramadan and Eid?+

Decide in advance which weeks run at a reduced load rather than trying to push a normal schedule through the middle. School hours shorten and useful study time moves to the late evening after Iftar, so shorter and later sessions through that period, with full-length sessions restored immediately afterwards, holds a plan together better than a month of ad hoc rescheduling. The Eid break then gives a short run of free days with no school either side, which is unusually good for timed past papers. Because lessons are online, a post-Iftar slot is as practical as an afternoon one.

What does the last fortnight before a paper actually change?+

Not what a student knows — there is no time for that — but how much of it reaches the page. Three levers still move: finishing the paper, choosing between optional questions quickly and accurately, and answering the command term the paper actually used rather than the one the student hoped for. All three are trainable in two weeks because none needs new content. What should stop is everything else: new material, new resources, late nights. A class that introduces a new topic in the final fortnight is doing harm.

What happens on results day if a grade looks wrong?+

Boards run a formal enquiry process and it is raised through the school, not by a parent directly, inside a short published window. Prepare the decision before results arrive: agree what would justify an enquiry, who raises it and what it costs. A grade far below every mock and predicted grade, or a component result that contradicts the pattern of the others, is a reason. General disappointment is not, and a remark can move a grade down as well as up. Cambridge releases results on Direct before certificates follow in late June, so the clock starts at the Direct release.

Should our child retake in the November session?+

Start with the university offer rather than the grade. Some offers can be deferred and some cannot, and that single fact changes the value of a retake completely, so get the condition in writing before deciding. For a UAE student a November session usually means a focused few months on one or two subjects rather than repeating the Diploma. If it is the plan, the countdown restarts in the first week: a diagnostic to find which components lost the marks, a block of timed paper work, and re-entry handled by the school to the board's published deadline.

How many IGCSE subjects does the Ministry of Education count for equivalency?+

Five. The published British-track requirement is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no lower than E or grade 3, plus either one Advanced Level subject at no lower than E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five. One tutoring site currently ranking states that six subjects are required, which is why this is worth checking on moe.gov.ae or with the emirate attestation channel rather than on a tutoring page. No verified IB points threshold is published here, because none could be confirmed on the Ministry's own pages.

Can a tutor help with an Internal Assessment two weeks before it is due?+

Only within a narrow boundary, and that boundary does not widen because the deadline is close. A tutor may explain the criteria, question whether the conclusion follows from the data, point out that a section is not doing what the criterion rewards, and hand the draft back for the student to revise. A tutor may not produce any part of an assessed task, supply text for it, or edit it to completion. Some providers in these search results sell finished Internal Assessments. That triggers the IB's malpractice process, and the consequence falls on the student.

What do IB classes cost per hour in the UAE market?+

Published market bands, collected October 2026, run roughly like this: budget online tutors from AED 33 to 150, with EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52; qualified online subject tutors AED 150 to 300, with Unitors listing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200; IB and IGCSE specialists AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270; and premium named tutors above AED 500, with BartyED at AED 650. Those are other providers' figures, not ours. Ask any provider for a rate against a stated number of hours.

Are these classes delivered online, or does someone come to the house?+

Online, one-to-one, over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send a tutor to an address in the UAE; home visits are a service offered only in India. In-home tuition does exist in the UAE market and the published rates are higher, because the fee contains travel: Bestimate puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350 and independent tutors advertise AED 200 to 500. The practical trade is specialism against proximity. Online, a Higher Level chemistry candidate gets a Higher Level chemistry specialist rather than the nearest available generalist.

How do Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies fit into an exam-term timetable?+

They are mandatory in Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA requires them to be implemented from the start of the 2025-26 academic year, so they occupy real time in the week alongside the Diploma. KHDA calculates the instructional time in 40-minute lesson units and requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies. The practical consequence for a plan is simple: count those periods before booking anything after school, because the week is fuller than a Diploma subject list suggests.

Can lessons pause during the exam weeks themselves?+

Yes, and for most students they should. Once papers begin, the useful work is a short daily retrieval routine and timing rehearsal for the next paper, not a full lesson schedule. Agree the pause in advance, including who may change a slot and with how much notice, so the plan does not dissolve through improvised rescheduling. The same applies to school exam weeks earlier in the year and to family travel. Because the format is online, a pause and a restart need no logistics beyond an agreed slot.

What if no Higher Level specialist is free in the week we need to start?+

You are told in the first conversation, along with when one is expected to be free and what the alternative is. For niche Higher Level combinations this happens, particularly in the northern emirates where the local pool is thin, and the honest options are to wait a short time for the right specialist, start with a related-subject tutor on general technique, or begin with a shorter block aimed at the component losing the most marks. What we do not do is match a Standard Level generalist to a Higher Level plan and let the calendar reveal it later.

Start by putting a date on it

If you take one thing from this page, take the countdown. Find out your child's exam session and the school's own internal deadlines, write them on one sheet with the Ramadan window beside them, and see which weeks are actually free. Most families discover one collision they can still move and one deadline they had not counted at all. Then book a free trial lesson — one per student, arranged before anything is paid for — and bring that sheet to it. The tutor's job in the first hour is to tell you what those remaining weeks can realistically change, and to say plainly what they cannot.
