Weekend IGCSE Tutor in the UAE

A weekend IGCSE tutor in the UAE gets booked for one reason: Saturday and Sunday are the only hours a Year 10 or Year 11 student has that are not already spent in uniform, on a school bus, or at a 7pm club. This page is about what that hour costs in AED, why the Saturday mid-morning block is the scarcest slot in the week, and what the money should actually buy. Lessons here are one-to-one and live online, timed to Gulf Standard Time.

  • Every lesson is one-to-one and live online on Gulf Standard Time
  • AED figures here are attributed market rates, not our price list
  • Cambridge final entries close months before the papers are sat
  • Tutors teach and give feedback; assessed work stays the student's own

IB & IGCSE in the UAE

What a weekend hour costs here, and what it should buy

Weekend tutoring is priced differently from weekday tutoring in the UAE, and the reason is supply rather than appetite. Since the start of 2022 the school and federal working week here has run Monday to Friday with a short Friday, which leaves Saturday and Sunday as the only two days a Year 11 student is not in school. Every family in the emirate wants the same two days. A tutor teaching thirty hours a week has perhaps eight of them on a weekend, and those eight are the first to go in September and the last to come back.

That scarcity shows up in three places. Rates at the top of the weekend band hold firm where a weekday rate might flex. Saturday mid-morning disappears early in the autumn term and does not reappear until a cohort finishes its papers. And a weekend-only plan contains fewer sessions than parents assume: between the first week of September and the first summer paper there are roughly thirty-six calendar weekends, and half-term, the winter break, Commemoration Day, National Day, Eid and study leave take a serious bite out of that number before anyone has taught a lesson.

The published market gives you a floor and a ceiling. EdFlik advertises online tuition from AED 45 to 65 an hour and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52, both at the university-student end of the market. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150. TutorChase quotes AED 270. Bestimate's Dubai rate guide puts an in-home visit at AED 180 to 350 and a subject specialist at AED 200 to 450 or more. BartyED sits at AED 650 for a premium named tutor. The spread from bottom to top is roughly fourteenfold, and weekend hours sit in the upper half of whichever band a family chooses.

What the money should buy is narrower than most marketing suggests. A weekend hour earns its AED when it does something a crowded school lesson cannot: working out which of the Cambridge Mathematics 0580 papers a candidate is really losing marks on, walking a Physics 0625 student through the question types on the alternative-to-practical paper, drilling the six-mark extended-response structure in Biology 0610, or sitting with a draft of an assessed piece and asking the questions a moderator would ask. It is not worth paying specialist money for homework supervision, and no rate on any page buys a grade.

So this page does four things. It sets out the AED bands with the source attached. It shows which weekend slots cost the most and explains why. It counts the usable weekends backwards from the Cambridge and Pearson sessions, which no competitor page in this market does. And it names plainly what a tutor may and may not touch. IB Gram delivers all of it as one-to-one lessons over live video. Home visits are a service we run in India only; across the Emirates the model is online, which is also why a family in Fujairah can book the same Chemistry specialist as a family in Jumeirah.

At a glance

  • Weekend rates cluster where the specialist bands begin, not where the budget bands do
  • Saturday 09:00-12:00 Gulf Standard Time is the most contested block of the tutoring week
  • A September-to-June weekend plan holds around thirty usable Saturdays once holidays come out
  • Pearson's November 2026 International GCSE timetable ran to 19 November 2026, with entries closed over the summer
  • Arabic and Islamic Education do not count towards the five subjects Ministry of Education equivalency requires
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Weekend demand is not spread evenly across the IGCSE years. Year 9 families book one hour and treat it as insurance; Year 10 families book a term and stop; Year 11 families book a double block and keep it until study leave. The four stages below each change what a weekend slot is for, and therefore what it is reasonably worth paying for.

Y9Ages 13-14 - Year 9

The pre-IGCSE year

Year 9 is where subject choices are made and where the Core-or-Extended decision starts forming. A weekend hour at this stage is cheap relative to the rest of the plan, because the content is not yet examinable and a generalist can carry it. The useful work is algebraic fluency, scientific notation and writing in full sentences under timed conditions. Families who do this year properly often need fewer weekend hours in Year 11, which is the only genuine saving available in the whole two-year sequence.

Across UAE schools Year 9 is also where the mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies load becomes visible on a report alongside the British subjects. KHDA requires those subjects in every Dubai private school whatever curriculum is licensed, so a weekend plan built only around Maths and Science can quietly ignore a third of the timetable your child is actually graded on.

COREAges 14-16 - Years 10-11

IGCSE Core tier

Core tier caps the available grades, which changes the economics of a weekend hour completely. There is no point paying a specialist rate to push past a ceiling the entry does not allow. What Core candidates need from a weekend session is accuracy on the routine marks: unit conversions, method marks on structured questions, and the command terms that separate a state from a describe. Many Core students are one careful term away from the tier boundary, and that conversation belongs with the school before any tuition is bought.

Tier is set by the entry your UAE school submits, not by what a family prefers, and Cambridge entries are made through the school as the registered centre. Ask the examinations officer which tier was entered and when the deadline falls. A family that discovers the tier in March has lost the window in which a weekend plan could have changed it.

EXTAges 14-16 - Years 10-11

IGCSE Extended tier

An IGCSE Extended tier tutor is what most weekend bookings in this market are actually asking for. Extended carries the harder papers and the full grade range, and the marks live in the longer-answer and multi-step questions rather than in recall. A weekend double block suits it: ninety to a hundred and twenty minutes is long enough to attempt a full past paper section, mark it against the published criteria, and rebuild the two topics the attempt exposed. One hour on a Tuesday night rarely reaches the rebuilding stage.

Extended is where the five-subject Ministry of Education equivalency requirement and university prerequisites start to interact. A UAE family planning on a local or British university needs the subject spread checked, not just the grades, and the check costs nothing. Weekend hours spent on a sixth optional subject while one of the five required ones drifts is the most expensive mistake available here.

POST16Ages 16-19 - Years 12-13

After the papers: AS, A Level and the Diploma

The weekend slot does not end with the IGCSE results. Students moving into AS and A Level or into the IB Diploma hit a step change in independence, and the families who keep a fortnightly weekend hour through that transition are usually the ones who had a difficult Year 11. The work shifts from content delivery to habit: how to read a mark scheme, how to plan a response, how to use a weekend without being told to. That is cheaper per month than weekly teaching and tends to last longer.

For British-track students the Ministry of Education equivalency file needs one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or better, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade, on top of the five IGCSE subjects. That sequencing matters for a UAE family: the IGCSE grades are only half the file, and the post-16 half is where a late subject drop causes the real problem.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Weekend demand concentrates in a predictable handful of syllabuses, and the rate follows the scarcity of people who can teach them. The list below is written around the syllabus codes UAE schools actually enter, because a tutor who knows 0580 is not automatically a tutor who knows 0607, and the price difference between those two is real.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580

Core and Extended

The highest-volume weekend booking in the market and therefore the most competitively priced. A Cambridge IGCSE 0580 tutor is widely available at every tier. Extended candidates lose marks on algebraic manipulation under time pressure, vectors, and the multi-step problems that carry four or five marks each. Weekend blocks work well here because a full paper section can be attempted and marked in one sitting.

Cambridge IGCSE International Mathematics 0607

Core and Extended

Entered by schools that want a graphic-display-calculator route and often a bridge into IB Mathematics. Far fewer tutors teach it, so weekend slots are scarce and quoted nearer the specialist band. The paper structure and the calculator expectations differ from 0580, and a tutor who has only taught 0580 will teach the wrong exam.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics 4MA1

Foundation and Higher

A Pearson Edexcel IGCSE 4MA1 tutor is the right ask when the school entered Edexcel rather than Cambridge. The content overlaps heavily with 0580 but the paper style, the tiering language and the formulae provided are different. Pearson also runs a November series, which changes what a weekend plan in September is working towards.

Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625

Core and Extended

The subject that generates the most urgent weekend enquiries in February and March. Electricity, moments and the alternative-to-practical paper account for most of the lost marks. The practical paper rewards a very specific kind of answer about variables, repeats and sources of error, and that is learnable in three or four weekend blocks.

Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry 0620

Core and Extended

Mole calculations, electrolysis and organic chemistry are where Extended candidates stall. Chemistry also carries a heavy symbol and equation load that does not survive being learned the night before. A weekend block that alternates between a calculation set and a written-answer set tends to move marks faster than an hour of revision notes.

Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610

Core and Extended

Deceptive because the content reads easily. Marks are lost on precision: naming the correct structure, using the right verb for a transport process, and writing six-mark extended responses that answer the question asked. Biology responds well to short, frequent weekend sessions rather than long ones, because it is a vocabulary problem as much as a concept problem.

Cambridge IGCSE First Language English 0500

Single tier

Reading and directed-writing marks are the ones most UAE candidates leave on the table, often because the response is well written but does not do the task set. A weekend session that marks one directed-writing response against the published criteria, line by line, usually finds the missing marks within the first thirty minutes.

Cambridge IGCSE Computer Science 0478

Single tier

Pseudocode, trace tables and the theory paper reward drill, and very few general tutors can mark pseudocode properly. Weekend slots for this syllabus are thin across the UAE and priced accordingly. The Pearson equivalent, 4CP0, adds an on-screen programming component that needs its own practice environment.

Cambridge IGCSE Economics 0455 and Business Studies 0450

Single tier

Both are structured-response subjects where the grade sits in the analysis and evaluation bands rather than in the definitions. Candidates who can define everything and still score a 5 are nearly always failing to build a chain of reasoning. That is a weekend skill: write one answer, mark it against the band descriptors, rewrite it.

Arabic, Islamic Education and UAE Social Studies

Arab and non-Arab streams

KHDA requires these in every Dubai private school whatever curriculum is licensed, and requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab groups. They sit on the report alongside IGCSE grades, and they are the subjects most often omitted from a weekend plan entirely. Note that for equivalency purposes Arabic and Islamic Education are excluded from the five-subject count.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Weekend hours are not interchangeable. A ninety-minute Saturday block and two forty-five-minute Sunday check-ins cost roughly the same and do entirely different jobs. These are the four patterns UAE families actually run, with the trade-off each one carries.

The Saturday morning double block

Ninety to a hundred and twenty minutes, usually between 09:00 and 12:00 Gulf Standard Time, long enough to attempt a paper section, mark it against the published criteria and rebuild what the attempt exposed. This is the pattern Extended candidates benefit from most and the slot that disappears first every September. Expect to pay at the upper end of whichever market band you are in, and expect to commit to the slot for a term rather than week by week.

  • Best for Extended tier sciences and Mathematics
  • Fits a full past-paper section plus marking in one sitting
  • The hardest slot in the UAE week to secure after September
  • Works badly for students who are already exhausted by Friday

Sunday evening reset

A single sixty-minute session late on Sunday, aimed at the week ahead rather than the week behind. It covers what is due, what is being tested on Wednesday, and which two topics need twenty minutes of independent work before Thursday. Cheaper per month than a double block and more effective for students whose problem is organisation rather than understanding. It also fails quietly if nobody checks that the independent work happened.

  • Suits organisation and deadline problems more than content gaps
  • Lower monthly spend than a weekend double block
  • Needs a short written plan at the end of every session
  • Pairs well with one weekday evening slot in exam term

Friday slot after Jumu'ah

Friday is a short school day in much of the country, and the hours after Jumu'ah prayers are the most underused teaching hours in the UAE week. Demand is lower, so availability is better and the slot is easier to hold for a whole academic year. For families who can use it, a Friday afternoon session takes the pressure off a Saturday that is already full of fixtures and family commitments.

  • Noticeably easier to book than any Saturday slot
  • Keeps Saturday free for sport and family commitments
  • Needs a fixed start time agreed around prayer timings
  • Shifts later during Ramadan along with everything else

The weekend exam revision block

A fixed-length sprint rather than an open-ended booking: six to ten weekends before a mock or a live series, each one a timed paper and a marking session on the same syllabus. It is bought as a block, scoped in advance, and it ends. This is the honest way to spend money late, and it is the pattern that most often produces visible movement, because the feedback loop is short enough for a student to feel it.

  • Defined start, defined end, defined number of papers
  • One syllabus at a time rather than three in parallel
  • Marking against published criteria, not a tutor's impression
  • Priced as a block so the total is known before it starts

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in the UAE

01

Why Saturday mid-morning is the dearest hour in the UAE tutoring week

  • Weekend hours are roughly a quarter of a tutor's teachable week and absorb most of the demand
  • A remaining Saturday morning slot in February is the least negotiable hour in the market
  • Friday afternoon and Sunday late evening are reliably easier to book and hold
  • Slots allocated in September tend to stay allocated until study leave

A weekend IGCSE tutor in the UAE charges more for Saturday between nine and midday than for almost any other hour, and the mechanism is simple arithmetic. A tutor teaching a full timetable has around thirty teachable hours in a week. Weekday hours run from roughly four in the afternoon, after the school run and the bus, until about nine at night, which is twenty-five usable hours across five days. The weekend adds perhaps eight or ten more. Those weekend hours are the only ones that do not compete with homework, fatigue and dinner, so every family asks for them, and the supply does not grow to meet the demand.

The consequence is that weekend slots behave less like a service and more like a fixed-stock asset. Rates at the lower end of the market still flex on a weekday, because a tutor with an empty Tuesday at six will take what is offered. The same tutor with one remaining Saturday at ten has no reason to discount it. Families who arrive in February asking for a Saturday morning block for Physics 0625 are competing for an hour that was allocated in the first fortnight of September, which is why the February answer is so often a weekday evening or a Sunday.

There is a practical move available here, and almost nobody takes it. Friday after Jumu'ah prayers, Sunday late evening and Saturday after six are consistently the least contested teaching hours in the country. A family willing to use one of them gets better availability, a wider choice of subject specialist, and a slot that survives the whole academic year rather than being squeezed out in exam term. The table below sets out how the weekend actually prices itself, slot by slot, so a booking decision can be made with the demand picture visible rather than guessed at.

What the UAE market charges for an IGCSE hour, and who publishes the figure

Published IGCSE tutor rates in the UAE run from the low forties to well past six hundred dirhams an hour, and three of the six best-ranking pages in this market publish no figure at all. Two of the three that do quote in US dollars, a currency no UAE family transacts in. Every figure in the table below comes from a provider that published it or from Bestimate's Dubai tutoring cost guide, and each is attributed in the table itself. None of them is an IB Gram price. We do not publish a single hourly rate across the country, because the honest number depends on the syllabus, the tier and the slot, and a number that ignores all three is marketing rather than information.

Read the bands as what they buy rather than as a ladder. Below about AED 150 an hour you are generally buying a capable university student who scored well in the subject recently. That is a reasonable purchase for Core tier arithmetic practice and a poor one for an Extended tier candidate four months from the papers, because the tutor has strong subject knowledge and no model of how marks are awarded. Between AED 150 and AED 300 sits the qualified subject teacher, which is where most sensible weekend bookings land. Above AED 450 you are paying for a named individual, and the question to ask is what specifically that name does that a good subject teacher does not.

The weekend premium sits on top of all of this rather than beside it. A tutor quoting AED 200 for a Wednesday evening may quote AED 250 for a Saturday morning, and the gap is a scarcity charge, not a quality difference. The same hour taught by the same person is worth the same amount of learning; the price difference reflects how many other families wanted it. Knowing that is useful, because it means a family that can move to a less contested weekend hour converts the premium into either a saving or a better-qualified tutor at the same spend.

Weekend-only, weekday evenings, or a mix: the monthly arithmetic

Most families decide how often to book before deciding what to book, which is the wrong order. The useful question is how many marked attempts a student will produce in a month, because that is the unit that moves an IGCSE grade. Two forty-five-minute weekday sessions produce conversation. One ninety-minute weekend block produces an attempt, a marking session and a correction. The monthly spend can be identical and the output is not comparable, which is why the table below prices patterns rather than hours.

Monthly packages in this market cluster around recognisable shapes. AED 799 a month for eight online sessions appears repeatedly in published offers, as does AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home visits. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Set those against the school fee they sit beside: Dubai confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year under the emirate's economic incentives package, so the tuition line is the one in a family budget that is still moving.

The pattern that fails most often is the one that looks most reasonable: one hour every Saturday, all year, three subjects in rotation. Each subject gets an hour every three weeks, nothing is ever finished, and the spend accumulates without a visible result. If the budget supports only one weekend hour a week, it should go to one syllabus until that syllabus is fixed, and then move. Spreading it thin is the most reliable way to spend AED 10,000 across an academic year and have nobody able to say what changed.

Counting the weekends backwards from the Cambridge and Pearson sessions

No competitor page in this market counts weekends backwards from an exam session, and it is the single most useful calculation a family can do before spending anything. The question is not how many weeks remain; it is how many weekend sessions remain after holidays, and whether the entry deadline that governs the whole plan has already passed. A candidate entered at a UAE centre has two Cambridge sittings to count towards, June and November, and the entry deadline for each sits far earlier than parents expect: a June entry is closed during the spring term, months ahead of the first paper, and a November entry over the preceding summer. The exact day is not a single national date; it comes to you on the centre's statement of entry, which is the document a weekend plan should be built against. The February and March sitting quoted in some revision guides is offered to India only and is not available here, so when a June deadline has passed the next sitting is November, not the spring.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson also publishes provisional timetables well in advance, including for International GCSE in each upcoming November, so a plan should always be built against the live official timetable rather than against a date restated on somebody else's website, including this one.

One Cambridge detail deserves a paragraph of its own because it has cost candidates their papers. Every Cambridge centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong zone timetable. UAE schools are not all in the same zone as the one a family finds first in a search. Ask your school's examinations officer for its zone and its timetable, and build the weekend plan on that document.

What a 90-minute weekend block buys, syllabus by syllabus

The reason a weekend double block is worth more per dirham than two short weekday sessions is that most IGCSE marks are lost in the gap between attempting a question and understanding why the attempt scored what it did. Closing that gap needs three things in one sitting: a timed attempt, marking against the published criteria, and a correction done while the attempt is still fresh. A sixty-minute weekday session usually reaches the end of the attempt and stops. A ninety-minute weekend block reaches the correction, which is where the mark actually changes hands.

What that block should contain varies sharply by syllabus, and this is where paying for a named-syllabus specialist earns its premium. A Physics 0625 block built around the alternative-to-practical paper looks nothing like a Mathematics 0580 block built around multi-step problems, and an English 0500 block spent marking one directed-writing response line by line looks nothing like either. A tutor who teaches all three identically is teaching revision in general, and revision in general is available free from the school.

The last column of the table is deliberately modest. Three or four well-marked blocks on one paper type moves a grade band on that paper type, in our experience of how these subjects are assessed; it does not move a whole subject grade, and anybody promising that is selling something else. Treat the column as a planning estimate to check against your child's own marked work, not as a forecast. The useful discipline is to agree what the block will produce before it is booked, so that both sides can tell afterwards whether it did.

Online one-to-one against a visiting tutor and a weekend centre class

Families comparing weekend options in the UAE are really comparing three different products at three different prices, and the comparison is usually made on rate alone. A visiting tutor costs more per hour because travel is inside the rate, and Bestimate puts the in-home band at AED 180 to 350 with listings running to AED 500. A weekend group class at a tuition centre costs least per student and divides the tutor's attention by the size of the group. Online one-to-one IGCSE tuition sits between them on price and removes the travel entirely, which on a UAE weekend is not a small factor.

IB Gram delivers one-to-one IGCSE support over live video, and only that. We do not send tutors to addresses anywhere in the Emirates; home visits are a service we run in India. The reason this matters on a weekend has little to do with convenience and a lot to do with who is available. A family in Al Ain looking for International Mathematics 0607 or Computer Science 0478 on a Saturday morning is choosing from whoever teaches that syllabus and can reach the house. Online, the same family is choosing from whoever teaches that syllabus. On a thin subject, that is the difference between a specialist and a substitute.

The honest case against online is worth stating too. It needs a quiet room, a stable connection, a device with a working microphone and a student willing to write on a shared screen rather than on a page the tutor can see. Students under about eleven usually need a parent nearby for the first few sessions. For a Year 10 or Year 11 IGCSE candidate none of that is a real obstacle, and the shared-screen marking that online makes easy is precisely the activity a weekend block should be spent on.

Ramadan, Eid and the holidays that quietly delete weekends

  • Count real weekends, not weeks, between today and the first paper
  • Commemoration Day and National Day remove an early-December weekend most years
  • Ramadan sessions work after Iftar, agreed in advance rather than rescheduled weekly
  • Eid removes a block of days and the week that follows it rarely produces much
  • A six-weekend reality is better served by a scoped block than a rolling weekly slot

A weekend-only plan is more fragile than a weekday plan because it has fewer sessions to lose. Miss two weekday evenings in a term and the plan absorbs it. Miss four Saturdays to a half-term, Commemoration Day and National Day on 1 and 2 December, and a long weekend away, and a term's worth of weekend tuition has lost a third of its content. The families who get value out of a weekend-only pattern are the ones who map the losses in September and plan around them, rather than discovering them one Thursday at a time.

Ramadan reshapes the week rather than removing it. School days shorten, energy moves to the evening, and a Ramadan tutoring schedule that keeps a 17:00 slot is working against the student. The pattern that holds is a post-Iftar session, usually from about 21:00 Gulf Standard Time, agreed in advance rather than rearranged weekly. Because the dates follow the lunar calendar and are confirmed close to the time, the practical move is to agree the Ramadan timetable in principle a month ahead and fix the start time once the dates are announced. Eid itself takes a block of days out entirely, and the week after it is rarely productive.

The calendar point that costs families most is the collision between these losses and the entry deadlines. A Cambridge June entry is closed during the spring term, well before the papers, and the run between that deadline and the first paper is exactly the stretch that Ramadan, Eid and the spring break cut into, which can leave a weekend-only candidate with far fewer sessions between the mock and the paper than anybody counted on. The fix is arithmetic, not urgency: count the actual weekends between today and the first paper, subtract the holidays, and decide the pattern against that number. If the answer is six weekends, buy a six-weekend block with a defined scope rather than an open-ended weekly booking.

Who is legally allowed to teach your child on a Saturday

  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free and valid for two years
  • MoHRE states a two-working-day completion time through its app and e-services
  • No fine amounts are published, so nobody should quote you one
  • Your child's own school teacher is the wrong hire for a paid weekend session
  • Premises-based tuition centres in Dubai need a KHDA training-institute permit

Private tutoring in the UAE is permitted, and it is permitted on a specific basis. The private tuition work permit was introduced through Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. The application route is MoHRE's own service, listed as Issuance of a New Work Permit for private tutor licensing, with a stated completion time of two working days through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system.

Two things follow for a family booking weekend hours. The first is that anyone offering paid private lessons to your child should be able to say whether they hold that permit, and the permit costs them nothing, so there is no reason for a tutor to be vague about it. Individuals providing private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted to you by anybody, including us. The second is that the permit comes with a code of conduct, and that code is where the Saturday question gets interesting.

Press reporting on ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff in Abu Dhabi describes a prohibition on teachers providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and notes that teachers tutoring outside school hours must hold the MoHRE permit, whose code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with their own school. Verify the current wording against ADEK's own policy document before relying on it. The practical reading for a parent is clear enough: your child's own class teacher is the wrong person to hire for a Saturday, however convenient it looks, and a provider that offers you exactly that arrangement has told you something about how it operates. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different matter again, requiring a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, which is a specific licence and not something any online platform should imply it holds.

Five subjects at grade E or better: what weekend hours should protect

Ministry of Education equivalency is the paperwork that converts an international school certificate into something a UAE authority recognises, and it is almost entirely absent from competitor pages in this market. One page that currently ranks states that UAE candidates must take six IGCSE subjects. The sourced position for the British track is five: students must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, and must also submit proof of one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or better, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade.

The detail that changes weekend planning is which subjects count. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects. A UAE family whose child is carrying Arabic as one of five IGCSE entries is therefore a subject short of the requirement without knowing it, and the moment to find that out is Year 10, not after results day. This is the single most valuable use of an early weekend hour: not teaching anything, but sitting with the subject list and checking it against the requirement. It costs one session and it has saved families an entire resit series.

For completeness, the American track requires English proficiency evidenced by a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test. No IB points threshold is published in the source we hold, so no figure for the IB route appears on this page. Equivalency is a process the Ministry runs, not a service IB Gram performs, and nothing about tutoring is required for it. Verify the current requirements on the Ministry's own site or with the emirate attestation authority before acting on any version of them, including this one.

What a weekend tutor may and may not touch, and how to begin

  • A tutor teaches, marks and questions; the submitted work is the student's own
  • Buying finished assessed work puts a malpractice finding on the student, not the seller
  • Scope assessed-work support early; there is more a tutor may legitimately do six weeks out
  • Ask for the syllabus code and the tier before you ask for the rate

Coursework and assessed components are where weekend tutoring gets ethically dangerous, because the deadline is usually Monday and the session is usually Sunday. The boundary is not subtle. A tutor may explain the assessment criteria, talk through structure, mark a draft the student has produced, ask the questions a moderator would ask, and teach the skill the draft is missing. A tutor may not supply sentences that end up in a submission, rewrite paragraphs into their own prose, or hand over a model answer to be copied. One provider in this market sells finished assessed work outright. A family that buys it is buying a malpractice finding against their own child.

Say this plainly to any tutor you are considering, and listen to the answer. A tutor who hesitates, or who offers to help more than the rules allow, has disqualified themselves regardless of their rate or their reviews. A tutor who explains the line clearly, and then holds it on a Sunday night with a deadline twelve hours away, is the one worth paying a weekend premium for. That boundary is also the reason assessed-work support is best bought as a scoped block early rather than as rescue hours late: there is far more a tutor can legitimately do six weeks out than six hours out.

Starting is deliberately low-commitment. Tell us the syllabus code, the tier, the school and the weekend slot you want, and the first session is a free trial lesson so that the match can be judged before money changes hands. If no UAE-based specialist covers your syllabus in your slot, we say so and offer the alternatives, which may include a tutor in another time zone teaching the same syllabus at a time that works, or a different weekend hour with the right specialist. What we do not do is put a general tutor in a specialist slot and let a family find out in March. Every lesson is one-to-one and delivered online.

Where we tutor

Where the weekend bookings come from

Weekend scheduling is a geography problem in the UAE even when the lesson is online, because what fills a Saturday differs by community: sports fixtures in one, a long drive to grandparents in another, a 10am brunch in a third. These notes are about slot behaviour, not about travel, since no tutor travels here.

Dubai Marina and JLT

Apartment living with Saturday morning sports academies at the tower clubs. Families here tend to want 16:00 or later on Saturday and treat Sunday morning as recovery time. Sunday evening IGCSE lessons book out faster in this cluster than anywhere else in Dubai.

Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim

Dense in British-curriculum schools and in Saturday brunch commitments. The practical pattern is a Saturday 09:00 block before the day starts, or a Friday slot after Jumu'ah prayers. Parents here ask about syllabus codes more often than about rates.

Arabian Ranches, Dubai Hills and Mudon

Villa communities with school-bus routes that already consume ninety minutes a day, so weekday evening sessions start late and run tired. Weekend double blocks are the dominant request, usually Saturday mid-morning, and they are the hardest slots in the city to secure after September.

Khalifa City, Al Raha and Al Reef

Abu Dhabi villa belt, with families working to ADEK's school calendar rather than Dubai's. Saturday afternoons are the common booking, and the questions here lean towards whether a school teacher may tutor privately, because ADEK's ethics rules are discussed locally.

Saadiyat Island and Al Reem

Newer international schools and a high proportion of families who travel during term breaks. The useful pattern is a fixed weekend slot that survives travel, which online delivery allows and a visiting tutor cannot. Sessions often continue from another time zone.

Sharjah: Al Majaz, Al Nahda and Muwailih

Many families commute into Dubai for work, so weekends are the only unbroken hours available. SPEA regulates the schools here and approves fees, curricula and assessment methods, which parents discover when they compare a Sharjah report with a Dubai one.

Al Ain and the Abu Dhabi interior

Thinner local tutor supply, particularly for Computer Science 0478 and International Mathematics 0607. This is the cluster where online delivery changes the answer rather than merely the price: the specialist exists, just not within driving distance of the house.

Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah

The Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah, while Ras Al Khaimah has its own Department of Knowledge. Competitor pages in this market mention these emirates almost never. Weekend slots here are easier to book because fewer families are competing for them.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in the UAE

Dubai

Dubai's private sector held 387,441 students across 227 schools offering 17 curricula in 2024-25, with the UK curriculum carrying 37% of that enrolment. The IGCSE weekend demand in this emirate is dominated by Years 10 and 11 at the schools below, and the slot pressure peaks in the two months before the summer series.

  • Jumeirah College
  • Dubai English Speaking College
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Repton School Dubai
  • JESS Arabian Ranches
  • Dubai British School Emirates Hills

Abu Dhabi and Al Ain

ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate, and its calendar does not always match Dubai's, which matters when a tutor holds weekend slots for families in both. Abu Dhabi enquiries skew towards Saturday afternoon and towards the sciences at Extended tier.

  • The British School Al Khubairat
  • Brighton College Abu Dhabi
  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • Repton School Abu Dhabi

Sharjah and the northern emirates

The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in that emirate and approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Families here often hold the fewest weekday evening hours of anyone in the country, which makes the weekend slot less a preference than the only option.

  • Victoria International School of Sharjah
  • Sharjah English School
  • Australian International School Sharjah
  • RAK Academy
  • Our Own English High School Sharjah

Schools are named here as context for the UAE IGCSE landscape only; IB Gram claims no affiliation with, endorsement by, or relationship to any school listed.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the syllabus code, not the subject

Cambridge 0580 and 0607 are both called Maths at the school gate and are different qualifications with different papers. Pearson 4MA1 is a third. Tell us the code your school entered, the tier, and the year group. That single piece of information determines which tutors can genuinely help and removes most of the guesswork from matching.

  2. 02

Name the weekend slot you actually want

Give us the day and the hour in Gulf Standard Time, plus one fallback. Saturday mid-morning is the hardest slot in the country to fill, and a family that offers a Friday afternoon or a Sunday evening alternative usually gets a better-matched specialist rather than merely an earlier start.

  3. 03

    Take the free trial lesson

The first session is a free trial, with no card required and no obligation to continue. Use it to watch how the tutor handles a question your child gets wrong, which tells you more than any profile. Ask them at the end what they would spend the next four weekends on, and whether they can mark against published criteria.

  4. 04

Agree what four weekends will produce

Before the second session, write down what the block is for: one syllabus, one paper type, a stated number of marked attempts. Four weekends is long enough to show movement and short enough that nobody is trapped. Vague plans are how an academic year of weekend spending ends with nobody able to say what changed.

  5. 05

Review on marked work, not on impressions

At the end of the block, compare the first marked attempt with the last one. If the paper type has moved, continue or switch to the next weakness. If it has not, change something specific rather than adding hours. Either outcome is useful; drifting on without looking is the only wasteful option.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Named syllabuses, not general revision

Tutors are matched to a syllabus code and a tier, because a Physics 0625 alternative-to-practical paper and an English 0500 directed-writing task need different expertise and different marking knowledge. General revision help is already available free from the school, and paying a weekend premium for it makes no sense.

Market rates published with the source attached

Every AED figure on this page names who published it and when. Three of the six best-ranking pages in this market publish no price at all, and two of the three that do quote in dollars. Attributed market bands let a family judge a quote; they are not our price list.

The weekend supply problem stated honestly

Saturday mid-morning fills early and stays filled, and we say so rather than implying infinite availability. Where a slot is gone, we name the alternatives and the trade-off each one carries, including the Friday and Sunday hours that most families never think to ask about.

A clear line around assessed work

Tutors teach, mark and give feedback on work the student has written. They do not supply sentences for a submission or hand over model answers to be copied. The line is stated on the page because a provider in this market sells finished assessed work, and a family should know where the boundary sits.

Online delivery that widens the tutor pool

Lessons are one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time. Home visits are a service we run in India, not in the Emirates. For a family in Al Ain or Fujairah wanting a thin syllabus on a Saturday, online is what makes a specialist reachable at all rather than merely cheaper.

Deadlines and calendars treated as part of the plan

Entry deadlines, zone timetables, Ramadan timings and public holidays all change how many weekend sessions a plan really contains. We count them with you before anything is booked, because a plan built on weeks rather than usable weekends is the most common planning error in this market.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in the UAE: your questions answered

Is a Saturday hour with an IGCSE tutor dearer than a Tuesday one?+

Usually, and the reason is supply rather than quality. A tutor has roughly twenty-five weekday teaching hours and eight or ten weekend ones, and nearly every family wants the weekend ones. A tutor with an empty Tuesday evening has an incentive to flex; the same tutor with one remaining Saturday morning does not. In practice the gap is tens of dirhams rather than hundreds, and the hour itself is no better taught. The useful consequence is that moving to a less contested weekend hour converts the premium into either a saving or a more specialised tutor at the same spend.

Why does Saturday mid-morning fill before any other slot in the UAE week?+

Because it is the only block in the week where a student is rested, nothing else is scheduled and there is enough time to attempt a paper section and mark it in one sitting. Since 2022 the UAE school week has run Monday to Friday, so Saturday and Sunday are the only two school-free days, and Saturday morning is the half of that pair most families reach for first. Slots allocated in the first fortnight of September typically stay allocated until study leave, which is why a February enquiry for that hour is usually offered a weekday evening instead.

How many usable weekends sit between September and the June papers?+

Roughly thirty-six calendar weekends exist between the first week of September and the start of a summer series, but a weekend-only plan does not get all of them. Autumn half-term, Commemoration Day and National Day on 1 and 2 December, the winter break, a spring break, Ramadan rescheduling, Eid and study leave remove a meaningful share. Around thirty is a fair planning figure, and in practice families lose a few more to travel and illness. The exercise worth doing in September is counting your own school's calendar rather than accepting a general figure, including this one.

Is one 120-minute weekend block better value than two 60-minute weekday lessons?+

For an Extended tier candidate, usually yes, because IGCSE marks are lost between attempting a question and understanding the mark awarded. Closing that needs a timed attempt, marking against published criteria, and a correction in the same sitting. A sixty-minute weekday session often reaches the end of the attempt and stops. A long weekend block reaches the correction. The exception is a student whose problem is organisation rather than content: for them, two short contacts a week that check what is due beat one long session, and they cost less.

Our daughter is free only on Sundays. Can one weekly session carry two subjects?+

It can, but it rarely should at Extended tier. Splitting a single hour across two syllabuses gives each one a fortnightly thirty minutes, which is not enough to finish anything. The pattern that works on a single weekly slot is sequential: one syllabus until the weak paper type has moved, then switch. If both subjects are genuinely urgent, a longer Sunday block split into two halves with independent work set between them is better than alternating weeks. Tell the tutor which of the two matters more, because they will otherwise try to serve both equally.

Is a Friday slot after Jumu'ah cheaper than a Saturday morning one?+

It is usually easier to book and more negotiable, which amounts to the same advantage. Friday is a short school day in much of the country, and the hours after Jumu'ah prayers are among the least requested teaching hours in the UAE week. Fewer families competing means better availability, a wider choice of subject specialist, and a slot that tends to survive the whole academic year instead of being squeezed out in exam term. Agree the start time explicitly around prayer timings, and expect it to shift later during Ramadan along with everything else.

Eid and the winter break both fall on weekends. How do we avoid losing a month?+

Map the losses in September rather than meeting them one Thursday at a time. Write out every weekend between now and the first paper, strike through half-term, the early-December holidays, the winter and spring breaks, Eid and study leave, and plan against what remains. Eid removes a block of days and the week after it rarely produces much, so treat that fortnight as gone. If the honest count is six weekends, buy a scoped six-weekend block with a defined number of marked papers rather than an open-ended weekly booking that will quietly lose a third of its sessions.

What should we ask about the Cambridge zone timetable before booking weekend hours?+

Ask your school's examinations officer which of Cambridge's six administrative zones the centre is allocated to, and ask for that zone's version of the timetable. Cambridge states it is essential to use the correct version for your zone and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. UAE schools are not all in the same zone as the first timetable a search returns. Build the weekend plan on the school's document, not on a date restated on a tutoring website, and confirm the entry deadline at the same time.

Which five IGCSE subjects should weekend hours protect for Ministry of Education equivalency?+

For the British track, students must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, and Arabic and Islamic education are not included among those five. So the five must come from the rest of the timetable. A family whose child is counting Arabic as one of five entries is a subject short without knowing it. Checking the subject list against the requirement in Year 10 costs one session and has saved families a resit series. Verify the current rule with the Ministry before acting on it.

May a teacher from our son's own school take him on a Saturday for a fee?+

Treat that as the wrong arrangement. Press reporting on ADEK's professional-ethics rules for Abu Dhabi private and charter school staff describes a prohibition on teachers giving paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and notes that the MoHRE private tuition permit carries a code of conduct that also bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school. Verify the current wording against ADEK's own policy document. Beyond the rules, a provider that offers you exactly this arrangement has told you something about how carefully it reads the regulations it operates under.

What is a fair price for a weekend mock-marking block rather than weekly teaching?+

Marking blocks are normally quoted as a package rather than hourly, because the work is a defined number of papers rather than an open timetable. Price it against the specialist band in this market, which published sources put at AED 200 to 450 or more an hour, and judge it on output: how many timed papers, marked against which published criteria, with what written feedback. A block that produces four marked scripts with specific corrections is worth more than six hours of discussion, and it is far easier to evaluate afterwards.

How do we tell after four weekends whether the money is doing anything?+

Compare the first marked attempt with the last one on the same paper type. Not the student's mood, not the tutor's report, and not a general sense of confidence. If the paper type has moved, continue or switch to the next weakness. If it has not, change something specific rather than adding hours: the syllabus focus, the session length, or the tutor. Agreeing this test before the block starts is what makes it usable, and a tutor who resists a measurable scope is telling you something useful at no cost.

What is a weekend tutor allowed to do with an assessed piece due on Monday?+

A tutor may explain the assessment criteria, talk through the structure, mark a draft the student has written, ask the questions a moderator would ask, and teach the skill the draft is missing. A tutor may not supply sentences that end up in the submission, rewrite paragraphs into their own prose, or hand over a model answer to be copied. One provider in this market sells finished assessed work; buying it puts a malpractice finding on the student rather than the seller. The boundary is also why this support is better bought six weeks out than six hours out.

Nothing is free on Saturday for Physics 0625. What are the options?+

We tell you, rather than filling the slot with a general tutor. The alternatives are usually three. Move to a less contested weekend hour, which for a thin syllabus often produces a better-matched specialist. Take a Friday afternoon or Sunday evening slot and keep it for the year. Or accept a tutor in another time zone who teaches that exact syllabus at a time that works in Gulf Standard Time, which online delivery makes possible. What we do not do is put a generalist in a specialist slot and let a family discover the mismatch in March.

Do weekend tutors in the UAE need the same MoHRE permit as weekday ones?+

Yes. The private tuition work permit introduced through Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 applies to paid private tutoring regardless of the day or the hour. It is issued free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. MoHRE lists a two-working-day completion time through its app, website and e-services. Tutoring without a permit is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no schedule of amounts is published, so nobody should quote you a figure.

What does a two-year weekend plan from Year 10 add up to beside a Dubai school fee?+

Take the honest arithmetic rather than a brochure figure. Around thirty usable weekends a year, at one ninety-minute block, at the published mid band of AED 150 to 300 an hour, lands somewhere between AED 6,750 and AED 13,500 a year before any exam-term intensification. Set that beside the school fee it sits next to: Dubai confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees would not rise for 2026-27 under the emirate's economic incentives package. The school fee is fixed for now; the tuition line is the one still under your control, which is a reason to scope it rather than let it run.

Start with the syllabus code and the slot

Weekend IGCSE tuition is worth buying when it is scoped and measured, and wasteful when it is open-ended.
