IB Maths Tutor in Dubai Silicon Oasis

Families looking for an IB maths tutor in Dubai Silicon Oasis almost always compare the area with Academic City, The Villa and Nad Al Sheba, because the Diploma schools and the roads connect all four. On schools and commute those places differ genuinely. On access to an Analysis and Approaches Higher Level specialist they do not, and this page shows why with the numbers. Lessons run as live one-to-one video on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Matched to one of four maths courses, never to maths in general
  • Neighbourhood supply compared by course and level, not by prestige
  • Exploration support is feedback on your child's own work only
  • Live one-to-one video on Gulf Standard Time, no travel in the rate

IB & IGCSE in Dubai Silicon Oasis

Comparing the corridor for IB maths, and finding the same answer

Dubai Silicon Oasis sits on the eastern side of the Dubai-Al Ain corridor, with Academic City immediately south, The Villa and Dubailand to the west, and Nad Al Sheba and Ras Al Khor to the north. Families weighing these areas for a Diploma student usually assume the maths tutoring market varies between them. It varies far less than the school offer does, and the reason is worth understanding before spending a weekend on local searches.

What genuinely differs is which courses the nearby schools actually run. Not every Diploma school offers all four maths courses at both levels in every cohort. A school may run Analysis and Approaches at both levels and Applications and Interpretation only at Standard Level, or combine small Higher Level groups across years. That is a real difference between schools in Silicon Oasis, Nad Al Sheba and Dubailand, and it is a question worth asking before enrolment rather than after.

What does not differ is the private tutoring pool. The International Baccalaureate accounted for 7 per cent of private school enrolment in Dubai in 2024-25, against 37 per cent on the UK curriculum and 26 per cent Indian. Divide that cohort across four maths courses and the pool of people who teach any one of them for a living is small, and it is small measured from Cedre Villas, from Nad Al Sheba or from The Villa equally.

Then add the third filter. A visiting tutor must reach your address between roughly 4pm and 6pm, which is the only window in which a Diploma student can hold a four-step rearrangement in their head. On a corridor where journeys run twenty-five to forty minutes in the late afternoon, that filter removes most of the remaining candidates for Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level. The intersection of course, level and driving distance is close to empty in every one of these communities.

IB Gram does not run home visits in Dubai; home visits are a service we offer only in India. Across Silicon Oasis and the neighbouring areas, maths lessons are live one-to-one video on Gulf Standard Time. For this subject the format is better rather than merely cheaper: the same working appears at the same size for both people, a non-calculator question can be annotated line by line as the error happens, and the graphic display calculator screen can be shown directly rather than described across a table.

The rest of this page does the comparison with tables. Which courses sit at which schools and how to ask. How deep local supply runs by course and level. What the AA and AI choice commits a family to. What each paper is worth. And where the marks actually go, which is the only comparison that changes a grade.

At a glance

  • Schools along this corridor differ in which maths courses they run, which is worth asking before enrolment
  • The private tutoring pool does not differ between these communities; it is an emirate-level constraint
  • IB enrolment was 7 per cent of Dubai's private market in 2024-25, split across four maths courses
  • A visiting tutor must satisfy course, level and driving distance at once, which rarely happens at Higher Level
  • Online delivery removes the distance filter, which is why the answer stops depending on the address
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Mathematics changes shape at each IB transition, and the comparison between communities matters least at the top of the sequence. These are the three stages and what each demands.

PYPAges 3-12 · Pre-KG to Year 6

Primary Years Programme mathematics

Number, pattern, shape, space and data handling taught through units of inquiry, with no external examination. The content demand is light; the habit worth building is explaining a method out loud, which criterion-referenced marking will ask for within a few years.

This is the one stage where the neighbourhood comparison favours whoever is nearest. Local primary supply across Silicon Oasis, Cedre Villas, Academic City and The Villa is adequate, so proximity is a reasonable filter and paying a Diploma specialist rate here is the clearest available waste.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme mathematics

Assessed against four criteria, A to D, each on a 1 to 8 scale, with totals converted to a 1 to 7 grade. Criterion A is knowing and understanding; the investigating-patterns and applying-in-context criteria are where students with sound arithmetic routinely lose bands because generalising and justifying a rule is a different activity from calculating.

MYP mathematics is also where the Diploma route is effectively set, because standard and extended streams in Years 9 and 10 feed into Applications and Interpretation and Analysis and Approaches respectively. A family along this corridor thinking about Higher Level AA should be asking about the stream in Year 9.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme mathematics

Two courses at two levels each. Analysis and Approaches emphasises algebraic fluency, calculus and proof, with Paper 1 sat without a calculator. Applications and Interpretation emphasises modelling, statistics and technology, with the calculator permitted throughout. Both carry a mathematical exploration worth 20 per cent, and Higher Level in both adds a Paper 3.

This is where comparing neighbourhoods stops being useful. Nad Al Sheba holds long-established Diploma centres and Silicon Oasis does not, and neither fact changes whether an Analysis and Approaches Higher Level specialist is free at 5pm on a Tuesday within driving distance. That scarcity is emirate-wide.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

This grid is the Diploma maths syllabus split into the topics tuition actually gets bought for, with where the marks go in each. It is the comparison that matters: tutor against tutor on these specifics, rather than one postcode against another.

Number and algebra

AA and AI, SL and HL

Sequences, series, exponents, logarithms, binomial expansion, with proof and complex numbers at AA Higher Level. This topic decides Paper 1 in Analysis and Approaches, because every manipulation has to be exact without a calculator, and the errors are procedural rather than conceptual.

Functions

AA and AI, SL and HL

Domain and range, composite and inverse functions, transformations, with rational functions at Higher Level. Marks are lost on domain restrictions treated as decoration, and on sketches drawn without the asymptotes and intercepts that carry the marks.

Geometry and trigonometry

AA and AI, SL and HL

Triangles, circular functions, identities and equations, with vectors at AA Higher Level. Trigonometric equations are where a student finds some solutions and loses the rest by not considering the whole interval the question specified.

Calculus

AA SL and HL, lighter in AI

Differentiation, integration, kinematics and, at AA Higher Level, substitution, integration by parts and differential equations. The long structured questions in Paper 2 are where the method marks sit, and untidy intermediate working loses them.

Statistics and probability

AI heavily, AA more lightly

Data presentation, regression, probability distributions and hypothesis testing in Applications and Interpretation. The AI student's characteristic loss is interpretation: a correct regression described in words that never mention the context in the question.

The mathematical exploration

All four courses, 20 per cent

An independent piece of mathematics on a topic the student chooses, marked against five criteria covering presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and the use of mathematics. A topic too large for the space available is the commonest failure.

Paper 1 technique in AA

SL and HL

Sat without a calculator, which is a distinct skill from doing the mathematics. Exact values, surds, fractions and clean algebraic steps. Students who have practised only with a device in hand lose marks on questions they can genuinely do.

Paper 3, Higher Level only

AA HL and AI HL

An extended problem-solving paper where each part builds on the last, so an early error propagates through everything after it. Sustained reasoning and reading ahead are the skills, and this is the component that responds least well to late preparation.

Graphic display calculator skills

All four courses

Solving equations, finding intersections, regression, distributions and numerical calculus on the device. Weak skills cost marks in AI and in AA Paper 2, while over-reliance conceals the algebra gap that then surfaces in AA Paper 1.

MYP and IGCSE to DP transition

Year 11 into Year 12

Both Diploma courses assume fluent algebraic manipulation, confident indices and surds, and comfort rearranging formulae. A student who met those topics without automating them experiences the Diploma as a sudden difficulty rather than a gradual one.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three shapes that suit Diploma mathematics specifically. All run as live one-to-one video lessons on Gulf Standard Time, with the working and the calculator screen shared both ways.

Non-calculator drilling block

Six to eight sessions aimed squarely at Analysis and Approaches Paper 1. Every question attempted without a calculator, marked, and the errors classified as sign, index, fraction or method errors. Classification is the point: a student who knows which of the four they make can stop making it.

  • Exact values, surds and fractions until they are automatic
  • Errors classified rather than merely corrected
  • Bounded cost with a defined end point
  • The highest-return block in AA at either level

Weekly across both Diploma years

The right arrangement for a student carrying Higher Level mathematics, because the subject builds cumulatively more than any other Diploma course. Continuity with one tutor is worth more here than elsewhere, so ask about it before booking rather than after a handover in February.

  • Same tutor across DP1 and DP2 where possible
  • Paced against the school's own scheme of work
  • Paper 3 strategy introduced in DP1, not the final term
  • Pausable around mock weeks without losing the slot

Exploration support, front-loaded

Two or three sessions at the topic-choosing and question-setting stage, where a poor choice is still cheap to correct, and one on a complete first draft. The tutor reads what the student wrote and says where it falls short against the criteria. The tutor does not write, draft or complete any part of it.

  • Topic scoped to something finishable, which is most of the battle
  • Criteria read aloud against the student's own draft
  • Personal engagement and reflection discussed explicitly
  • No drafting, editing to completion or supplied material

IB and IGCSE tutors available to students in Dubai Silicon Oasis

Each tutor below is listed against one of four courses: Analysis and Approaches at Higher or Standard Level, or Applications and Interpretation at Higher or Standard. That distinction is the whole comparison that matters. A tutor fluent in AI modelling and statistics is not the right person for an AA Higher Level proof question, whichever community they happen to live in.

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai Silicon Oasis

01

Which maths courses the nearby schools actually run

This is the one part of the neighbourhood comparison that genuinely matters, and almost nobody asks it. Not every Diploma school offers all four maths courses in every cohort. Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level requires a viable group and a teacher able to take it, and in smaller cohorts a school may run Applications and Interpretation at Standard Level only, or teach a combined Higher Level group across both courses, or set the stream in Year 11 with little room to change.

That has a direct consequence for a family choosing between Silicon Oasis, Nad Al Sheba, The Villa and Dubailand. If a student is heading for an engineering or mathematics degree that specifies Analysis and Approaches, the question to ask a prospective school is whether it has run AA Higher Level in each of the last three cohorts, not whether it offers it on paper. Those are different answers and the second one is the honest one.

Ask it in writing and ask it early. A school that offers a course in its prospectus and has not actually run it for two years is not being dishonest; it is describing capacity rather than history. But a student enrolled on that basis may find themselves in a combined group or steered towards a different course, and by then the alternative schools along the corridor have filled their places.

For a family already enrolled, the same question determines the tutoring plan. A student in a combined Higher Level group, or one taught Applications and Interpretation while aiming at a course that prefers Analysis and Approaches, needs a different kind of support from one in a well-staffed single-course group. That is a school-level fact rather than a neighbourhood one, which is the point of this section.

02

Local tutor supply by course, which is the same everywhere

Apply the three filters honestly. Course: Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation are different enough that a tutor strong in one is not automatically useful for the other, particularly at Higher Level. Level: Higher Level adds content and, in both courses, a Paper 3. Geography: the tutor must reach your address between roughly 4pm and 6pm, which on this corridor means a twenty-five to forty minute journey in the worst hour.

Each filter alone leaves candidates. Together they do not. For Primary Years and most Middle Years mathematics the intersection is still populated, which is why hiring locally at those levels is a sensible choice rather than a compromise. For Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, and for Paper 3 strategy specifically, the intersection in Silicon Oasis is close to empty, and so is the intersection in Nad Al Sheba, The Villa and Mirdif.

There is a particular local mismatch worth naming. Academic City's university campuses make this corridor unusually well supplied at the budget band of AED 33 to 52 at Tutopiya and AED 45 to 65 at EdFlik, both read in October 2026. Undergraduate mathematicians are genuinely good at drilling non-calculator algebra, which happens to be the single highest-return task in Analysis and Approaches. They are not the right people for exploration criteria or Paper 3 reasoning.

So the honest recommendation is split rather than uniform. Use the local budget band for repetitive marked practice where that is what the diagnosis calls for. Use a matched specialist for the exploration, for Paper 3 and for the interpretation work that Applications and Interpretation marks reward. And drop the distance filter for the second category, because it is the filter that makes the match fail.

Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation

The choice is made in Year 11, often by students who cannot articulate the difference, and it determines everything afterwards. Analysis and Approaches emphasises algebraic fluency, calculus and proof, and its Paper 1 is sat without a calculator. Applications and Interpretation emphasises modelling, statistics and technology-led problem solving, with the calculator permitted throughout both papers. Both exist at Higher and Standard Level and both carry an exploration worth a fifth of the grade.

The common error is treating AI as the easier course. It is different rather than easier. An AI Higher Level student handles substantial statistics, regression and distributions, and must interpret results in context, which is a demanding and distinct skill. What AI does not demand is the exact non-calculator manipulation that AA Paper 1 lives on, so a student with weak algebra and strong interpretive instincts may genuinely be better served by it and should not be argued out of it.

The reverse error is choosing AI to avoid difficulty and finding a door closed later. Some university programmes, particularly in engineering, mathematics, physics and economics at competitive institutions, specify Analysis and Approaches or set a Higher Level mathematics requirement that AI Standard Level does not meet. Requirements are set by individual institutions and courses and change between admissions cycles, so the only reliable method is to read the specific admissions page for the specific year.

For a family on this corridor the sequence is: ask the school which course the student is tracked towards and why, then test that assumption against two or three target degree subjects, then involve the school's university counsellor. If a change is warranted the window is the end of Year 11 and the very start of DP1. After that the cost of switching rises sharply in tuition and in lost ground.

04

What each paper is worth and how long it runs

Weightings are the most useful thing a parent can know and the thing almost no tutoring page states. At Standard Level in both courses, Paper 1 and Paper 2 each carry 40 per cent of the final grade and the exploration carries 20 per cent. At Higher Level in both courses, Paper 1 and Paper 2 each carry 30 per cent, Paper 3 carries 20 per cent and the exploration carries 20 per cent. Check these against your child's school copy of the subject guide, which is the authority.

Durations follow the same pattern. Standard Level Papers 1 and 2 run ninety minutes each. Higher Level Papers 1 and 2 run two hours each, and Paper 3 one hour. The arithmetic worth doing is that at Higher Level, Paper 3 and the exploration together carry 40 per cent of the grade while occupying one hour of examination plus a piece of coursework. That is a very large share sitting in the two components students prepare for least.

Read against the neighbourhood comparison that opened this page, that is the real finding. Whether you live in Silicon Oasis or Nad Al Sheba changes nothing about those weightings, and they are what determines where tuition money should go. A block aimed at Paper 3, or a handful of well-timed hours on the exploration at the question-setting stage, moves a larger share of the grade than general revision spread across two years.

The table below is the one to keep. Treat the final column as a priority list rather than a shopping list: for many students the honest conclusion is that Paper 2 is already fine, Paper 1 needs a short non-calculator block, and nobody has yet thought about Paper 3 at all. That is a cheaper plan than weekly cover across everything and a considerably better one.

Where the marks actually go, which is the only real comparison

  • Four repeatable habits account for most lost marks before content gaps do
  • Classify errors from two marked papers before buying any hours
  • Marked timed practice fixes reading habits; explanation does not
  • One sentence of context after every statistical result is the cheapest AI fix available

Most lost marks in Diploma mathematics are not caused by not knowing the mathematics. They are caused by four repeatable habits, and naming them is most of the repair. Sign and index slips under time pressure, which is a Paper 1 problem in Analysis and Approaches specifically. Working shown so compressed that method marks cannot be awarded, which is a Paper 2 problem at both levels and in both courses.

Answering less than the question asked is the third. A trigonometric equation question that specifies an interval wants every solution inside it; a student who finds two and stops has done the mathematics and lost the marks. A function sketch wants the asymptotes and intercepts rather than a plausible curve. These are reading habits and they respond to marked practice rather than to further explanation.

The fourth is interpretation, which is the Applications and Interpretation student's version of the same problem. A regression is computed correctly, a correlation coefficient is quoted, and the written answer says nothing about what it means for the context in the question. The calculation marks arrive and the interpretation marks do not. Teaching a student to write one honest sentence of context after every statistical result is cheap and visibly effective.

The diagnostic that works is unglamorous and free. Take the student's last two marked papers, classify every lost mark into those four buckets plus a fifth for genuine content gaps, and count. Most students produce a strongly skewed distribution and the plan then writes itself. A tutor who starts there rather than at topic one is a tutor who intends the hours to count, and this is the test to apply regardless of where they live.

06

The exploration: a fifth of the grade on five criteria

The exploration is an independent piece of mathematics written on a topic the student chooses, and it carries 20 per cent of the final grade in all four courses. It is marked against five criteria covering presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and the use of mathematics. Your child's teacher holds the current criteria and mark allocations in the subject guide, and that is the copy to work from; we do not reproduce board documents.

The commonest failure has nothing to do with mathematical ability. It is a topic too large to handle properly in the space available, chosen because it sounded impressive. A narrow question answered thoroughly outscores a grand question answered superficially every time, because the criteria reward depth of engagement and quality of reflection rather than ambition of subject matter. Fixing the choice takes one conversation and saves a term of frustration.

The second commonest failure is reflection treated as a conclusion. Criterion-based reflection means engaging honestly with what the mathematics did and did not show, what assumptions were made, and what a further investigation would change. A paragraph restating the result in different words scores in the lowest band. This is teachable quickly and almost never taught, because it does not feel like mathematics.

The boundary matters more here than anywhere else in the course, and it is the same in every community on this corridor. A tutor may discuss topic choice, explain each criterion, model a comparable exploration on a different topic, read a draft your child has written and say where it falls short, and teach citation. A tutor may not write, draft, complete, rewrite or supply any part of it. The work is declared as the student's own and moderated by the IB.

07

The calculator, and why a shared screen helps

  • Run the paper-only test: expand, rearrange, add algebraic fractions
  • Calculator over-reliance is an AA Paper 1 problem that hides until DP2
  • Under-taught calculator skills cost AI marks in both papers
  • A shared screen shows the tutor the exact keystroke, which a table does not

A graphic display calculator is required equipment in both Diploma mathematics courses, and how a student uses it predicts their Paper 1 grade in Analysis and Approaches better than almost anything else. Used well it solves equations, finds intersections, runs regressions and handles distributions quickly, which frees attention for reasoning. Used as a crutch it conceals an algebra gap for two years, and the gap then arrives fully grown in a paper where the device is not allowed.

The diagnostic is simple enough for a parent to run without any mathematics. Ask the student to expand and simplify a bracketed expression, rearrange a formula for a different variable, and add two algebraic fractions, all on paper. A fluent Analysis and Approaches student does those without hesitation. A student who reaches for the calculator or stalls has a Paper 1 problem regardless of their Paper 2 marks, and that is worth knowing in DP1 rather than in the spring of DP2.

The opposite failure is real too, particularly in Applications and Interpretation. Students who have never been taught the device properly lose marks in both papers because they cannot run a regression or read a distribution efficiently, and then spend time they do not have doing by hand what the calculator exists to do. Calculator technique is teachable in a few sessions and is among the clearest returns on a tutoring hour in AI.

This is where the delivery format stops being neutral. The calculator screen can be shown directly on a shared screen, so the tutor sees exactly which menu the student is in and which keystroke went wrong, rather than watching a device across a table and inferring. Several of the commonest calculator errors are invisible to somebody sitting beside the student and obvious to somebody looking at the same screen.

08

Starting from Dubai Silicon Oasis, and the limits we state

  • Name the course: AA HL, AA SL, AI HL or AI SL. It changes the match entirely
  • Send two marked papers; the classification costs nothing and decides the plan
  • No home visits in the UAE, no UAE office, no board approval claimed
  • No IB session or results dates published here; the coordinator holds them

Send four things: which of the four maths courses your child is in, which paper or component is going wrong, the last two marked papers if you have them, and the hour the student is realistically at a desk. The marked papers matter most, because the error classification can be done before any money changes hands. We then match a tutor to that exact course and level and run a free trial lesson as live one-to-one video on Gulf Standard Time, at no cost.

Afterwards you receive a written note setting out where the marks are going, sorted into the four habit categories plus genuine content gaps, with a recommended shape and number of hours. For many students that is a short non-calculator block rather than a weekly booking. Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level is the one course where a two-year weekly arrangement is frequently right, and we will say which situation you are in.

The limits. IB Gram does not run home visits in the UAE; home visits are a service we offer only in India. There is no UAE office, centre or branch and we claim none. We hold no IB, regulator or board approval. We publish no IB examination or results dates, because the IB's own site blocks automated checking and an unverified date a family plans around is worse than silence; your child's IB coordinator holds the real calendar.

And the exploration boundary, once more, because it is the rule this market bends most often. A tutor may discuss the topic, explain each criterion, model a comparable piece on a different subject, read your child's own draft and say where it falls short, and teach citation. A tutor may not write, draft, complete or supply any part of it. Ask every provider you consider to put that in writing, and keep the reply.

Where we tutor

The corridor compared for Diploma maths

Six communities on the same stretch of eastern Dubai, compared on what actually bears on a maths tutoring decision: the Diploma schools reachable, the afternoon journey, and how deep local supply runs by course.

Dubai Silicon Oasis

Self-contained, with a large British-curriculum secondary school and several Indian-curriculum schools inside the community. Students attending locally reach the valuable mid-afternoon window easily, which matters for maths more than for most subjects. Diploma maths tutor supply is no better here than anywhere nearby.

Cedre Villas and Silicon Gardens

Villa and townhouse stock within Silicon Oasis with short internal journeys. Scheduling stability is the real benefit for a two-year maths commitment, since the course builds on itself from the first term of DP1 to the last of DP2.

Dubai International Academic City

University district immediately south. Undergraduate mathematicians are plentiful and inexpensive here, which is why the AED 33 to 65 budget band exists in this emirate. Excellent for drilling non-calculator algebra, and the wrong match for exploration criteria or Paper 3 strategy.

The Villa and Dubailand

Villa communities west of the corridor, more car-dependent with longer internal journeys. The later arrival home pushes a visiting maths slot into the evening, which is the weaker window for a subject that depends on sustained reasoning.

Nad Al Sheba

Two long-established schools on this stretch, including an IB continuum school, so the Diploma teaching presence here is the deepest nearby. That improves school choice and does not translate into evening tutor availability, because school staff are not an open tutoring pool.

Mirdif

Twenty-five to forty minutes north-east depending on the hour, with its own IB continuum school. The deepest general tutoring market in eastern Dubai, and still thin for Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, which is the pattern everywhere.

Al Warqa and Al Rashidiya

Established housing between Silicon Oasis and Festival City with a mix of curricula. Many mathematics tutors trained on CBSE or British specifications, which is genuine teaching ability attached to a different assessment structure and different exploration criteria.

International City

Dense and price-sensitive north of the corridor, well supplied at the budget end. Useful for repetitive marked practice, which happens to be most of what algebraic fluency requires, and not for the components that carry exploration marks.

School ecosystem

Silicon Oasis and Academic City

GEMS Wellington Academy Silicon Oasis is one of the larger British-curriculum secondary schools in eastern Dubai, with The Indian Academy and Indian International School nearby and Dubai English Speaking College in Academic City. Which maths courses a school runs in a given cohort varies, so ask specifically whether Analysis and Approaches Higher Level is offered rather than assuming it.

Most Diploma maths requests from this corridor come from this cluster, and Paper 3 is the component named most often.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Ask the school which maths courses it actually runs

Not which it lists, which it has run in each of the last three cohorts, and whether Higher Level groups are ever combined across courses. For a student aiming at a degree that specifies Analysis and Approaches, that history is the most useful piece of information available and almost nobody requests it.

  2. 02

Name the course and the paper

Analysis and Approaches Higher Level Paper 1 is a different request from Applications and Interpretation Standard Level Paper 2. Those two facts determine the tutor, the shape of the work and the band it needs, and they take one line to supply.

  3. 03

Send the last two marked papers

Every lost mark classified: sign and index slips, compressed working, answering less than the question asked, missing interpretation, or a genuine content gap. Most students are strongly skewed, and the plan then writes itself before anybody has paid for a session.

  4. 04

Test the calculator dependency on paper

Expand a bracketed expression, rearrange a formula, add two algebraic fractions, with no device. Hesitation on any of the three is a Paper 1 problem in Analysis and Approaches regardless of Paper 2 marks, and finding it in DP1 is worth far more than finding it in DP2.

Place the exploration hours at the front

Two or three sessions at the topic and question stage, where a poor choice is still cheap to correct, and one on a complete draft. Twenty hours of exploration support is mostly somebody watching a student type; three or four well-timed hours changes a criterion band.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The comparison is answered honestly

Silicon Oasis, Academic City, The Villa, Nad Al Sheba and Mirdif differ on school offer and commute and do not differ on Diploma maths tutor supply. Saying so is more useful than implying one community is better served, which is what a local page usually does.

Matched to one of four courses

AA HL, AA SL, AI HL and AI SL assess different things, and a tutor strong in modelling and statistics is not automatically right for non-calculator algebra and proof. We ask which course before matching, because the mismatch takes weeks to surface.

Weightings published, not described

Paper 1 and Paper 2 carry 40 per cent each at Standard Level and 30 per cent each at Higher, with Paper 3 and the exploration at 20 per cent each at Higher Level. Knowing that redirects spending to the components that carry marks.

The school question nobody asks

Whether a school has actually run Analysis and Approaches Higher Level in recent cohorts, rather than whether it lists the course. For a student heading towards a maths-heavy degree that history matters more than any feature of the neighbourhood.

Error classification before purchase

Two marked papers, every lost mark sorted into five categories, done before a booking. Most students turn out to have one dominant failure mode, and a plan aimed at it costs less than a plan aimed at the subject.

A written boundary on the exploration

Topic scoping, criteria explanation, a comparable model on a different topic, and feedback on your child's own draft. No drafting, no completing, no supplied material, in any community and at any rate.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai Silicon Oasis: your questions answered

Is IB maths tutoring easier to find in Silicon Oasis than in Nad Al Sheba?+

No. Those areas differ on school offer and commute, and the private tutoring pool is an emirate-level constraint rather than a neighbourhood one. The International Baccalaureate was 7 per cent of Dubai private school enrolment in 2024-25, and dividing that across four maths courses at two levels leaves a small pool measured from anywhere on this corridor. What does differ, and is worth asking, is which maths courses each nearby school has actually run recently.

Does every Diploma school near Dubai Silicon Oasis offer AA Higher Level?+

Not necessarily, and this is the question worth asking before enrolment. Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level needs a viable group and a teacher able to take it, so in smaller cohorts a school may run Applications and Interpretation at Standard Level only, teach a combined Higher Level group, or set the stream in Year 11 with little room to change. Ask whether the school has run AA Higher Level in each of the last three cohorts, not whether it appears in the prospectus.

What is the difference between IB Maths AA and AI for a Silicon Oasis student?+

Analysis and Approaches emphasises algebraic fluency, calculus and proof, with Paper 1 sat without a calculator. Applications and Interpretation emphasises modelling, statistics and technology, with the calculator permitted throughout. Both run at Higher and Standard Level and both carry an exploration worth 20 per cent. AI is not easier, it is different: it demands substantial statistics and genuine interpretation, and it does not demand exact non-calculator manipulation.

Do tutors travel to Cedre Villas for maths lessons?+

No. IB Gram does not run home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service exists only in India. For mathematics the online format is genuinely better rather than merely cheaper. The same working appears at the same size for both people, a non-calculator question can be annotated line by line as the error happens, and the graphic display calculator screen can be displayed directly instead of described across a table.

Can we use the cheaper tutors near Academic City for Diploma maths?+

For one specific task, yes, and it is a useful one. The budget band in this emirate runs AED 33 to 52 at Tutopiya and AED 45 to 65 at EdFlik, sustained partly by the undergraduate population next door, and undergraduate mathematicians are genuinely effective at drilling non-calculator algebra, which is the highest-return task in Analysis and Approaches. They are not the right match for exploration criteria or Paper 3 reasoning, which need somebody who has taught the course.

What is Paper 3 and does my child sit it?+

Paper 3 is an extended problem-solving paper sat only at Higher Level, in both Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation. It runs for one hour and carries 20 per cent of the final grade, and each part builds on the last so an early error propagates through everything after it. It responds least well of any component to late preparation, which is why strategy work belongs in DP1 rather than in the final weeks.

What share of the grade is the exploration, and which five criteria apply?+

Twenty per cent of the final grade in all four Diploma mathematics courses. It is marked against five criteria covering presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and the use of mathematics. Your child's teacher holds the current criteria and mark allocations in the subject guide, and that is the copy to work from. The commonest failure is a topic too large to handle in the space available, which one conversation fixes.

Why is my child strong in Paper 2 and weak in Paper 1?+

Almost always because Paper 1 in Analysis and Approaches is sat without a calculator and the student has been doing the mathematics with a device in hand for years. The underlying knowledge is sound; the exact manipulation is not automatic. Test it on paper yourself: expand a bracketed expression, rearrange a formula, add two algebraic fractions. Hesitation on any means a six to eight session non-calculator drilling block is the highest-return purchase available.

Which maths route do universities want from a Dubai Diploma student?+

It depends on the course and the institution, and requirements change between admissions cycles, so no tutoring page should offer a rule. Maths-heavy degrees in engineering, mathematics, physics, computer science and economics are the ones most likely to specify Analysis and Approaches or a Higher Level grade. Open the admissions page for the specific course and year, check whether AI Standard Level satisfies it, and involve the school's university counsellor early rather than late.

How far can a Silicon Oasis tutor go in supporting the exploration?+

No. A tutor may discuss topic choice, explain each of the five criteria, model a comparable exploration on a different topic, read a draft your child has written and say where it falls short, and teach citation properly. A tutor may not write, draft, complete, rewrite or supply any part of it. The exploration is declared as the student's own work and moderated by the IB, so the consequence of anything else falls on your child rather than on whoever was paid.

Is it too late to switch between AA and AI in DP1?+

The realistic window is the end of Year 11 and the very start of DP1, and the decision sits with the school rather than with a tutor. Before that conversation, check what two or three target degrees actually require of mathematics, because a switch made to avoid difficulty can close a door and one made for prestige can consume two years of tutoring hours. After the window closes, the cost of switching rises sharply in both tuition and lost ground.

Can poor calculator technique alone pull down an AI grade?+

Yes, in both papers, and it is one of the clearest returns on a tutoring hour in that course. A student who cannot run a regression, read a distribution or find an intersection efficiently loses time they do not have and then attempts by hand what the device exists to do. Calculator technique is teachable in a few sessions, and on a shared screen a tutor can see exactly which menu the student is in, which is not possible across a table.

How many weekly maths sessions does a Higher Level student need?+

One, in most cases, placed early enough in the afternoon that the student can still hold a four-step rearrangement in their head. Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level is the one Diploma maths course where a weekly arrangement across both years is frequently right, because the subject builds cumulatively. Where a student is genuinely behind, a weekend block plus the weekday hour works better than three tired evenings, and the slot should be reviewed after mocks.

Is Higher Level maths worth taking if no target degree requires it?+

Often not, and almost nobody will say so. Higher Level Analysis and Approaches chosen for how it looks consumes tutoring hours across two years and risks a grade that helps nothing, while a confident Standard Level result in the right course leaves time for the subjects that carry the application. Check what two or three target degrees actually require before the route is locked. If none specifies Higher Level mathematics, that is a real finding worth acting on.

Why are there no IB maths session dates anywhere on this page?+

No, deliberately. The IB's own site blocks automated checking, so no session or results date in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself, and a date a family plans around is the worst thing to get wrong. UAE schools sit the May examinations, and your child's IB coordinator holds the actual windows and the internal deadlines, including the exploration deadline, which is the date that affects tuition timing most.

Compare the schools, then compare the tutors

The useful comparison along this corridor is not between neighbourhoods. It is between schools, on the single question of which maths courses they have actually run in recent cohorts, and between tutors, on whether they can talk about Paper 3, the five exploration criteria and where a specific paper takes marks off. Those two comparisons change outcomes. Distance does not. So ask the school for its course history, send us the course, the paper and two marked papers, and take the free trial lesson before deciding anything.
