IB and IGCSE tutors for Dubai Silicon Oasis families

Most searches for IB and IGCSE tutors in Dubai Silicon Oasis end in a scheduling problem rather than a subject problem. The bus gets back at a certain hour, both parents are still in the free zone, and there are two usable slots in the week rather than the four a tutoring plan assumes. IB Gram works backwards from that reality: one-to-one lessons over live video, booked into slots a Dubai Silicon Oasis household can actually keep for a whole term.

  • Slots agreed around arrival time, not around a tutor's diary
  • Delivered online one-to-one, so nobody drives anywhere
  • Two protected sessions planned rather than four hopeful ones

IB & IGCSE in Dubai Silicon Oasis

The hour between the bus and bedtime is the whole constraint

Ask a Silicon Oasis parent what makes tutoring hard and almost nobody says the subject. They say the week. The school bus turns into the community somewhere between half past three and half past four depending on the route. One or both parents are still in the free zone or on the Dubai-Sharjah road until six. Dinner, younger siblings, Arabic homework and whatever the school set that day all land in the same two hours. Somewhere inside that, a tutoring session is supposed to happen.

This is not a trivial logistics complaint. It is the reason tutoring plans fail here more often than they fail for lack of a good tutor. A family books three sessions a week in September because three sounds serious. By late October one of the three has been cancelled twice, a second has drifted to nine at night where nothing useful happens, and the third is carrying all the weight. The plan did not fail academically. It failed because it was never a timetable a real household could keep.

Silicon Oasis has its own version of this. The community is apartment-dense and free-zone adjacent, so a high proportion of households have both parents working on site or close by, with fixed office hours rather than flexible ones. Children attend schools inside the community and schools a long drive away, often within the same building. And the UAE working week is Monday to Friday with a short Friday, which creates one genuinely underused slot that almost nobody asks for.

So the honest starting question is not how many hours of tutoring your child needs. It is how many hours this household can protect for a whole term without resentment. For most Silicon Oasis families the answer is two. Two sessions that always happen beat four that mostly do not, and once you accept two, the next question becomes interesting: which two subjects deserve them, and what gets left alone.

IB Gram is built around that answer. Lessons run one-to-one over live video, so no part of the schedule depends on a tutor's drive time. IB Gram does not operate home visits in Dubai; in-home tutoring is offered only in India. For a Silicon Oasis household the practical effect is that a session can start fifteen minutes after the bus arrives, and that a cancelled slot can be rescheduled the same week rather than negotiated around someone's route across the city.

The rest of this page is the scheduling and cost detail competitors leave out: what time a session can realistically begin from each route, what the formats actually cost in AED, how the UAE calendar moves a plan, who is legally permitted to teach your child privately, and where a tutor has to stop on assessed work.

At a glance

  • Session times mapped to each bus route rather than offered as a generic evening
  • Online one-to-one over live video; no UAE home visits
  • Market rates in AED attributed to the provider that published them
  • Friday short day and weekend slots treated as first-class options
  • Ramadan, term breaks and exam windows built into the term plan
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Silicon Oasis households run across all four programmes at once, partly because the community's schools sit on different boards and partly because families move between them. The note under each programme describes what it does to an evening, which is the part that decides whether a plan survives October.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE

Two years of specification-led teaching examined at the end of Year 11. The syllabus code - 0580, 0625, 4MA1 and so on - decides the papers, the tiering and what appears on the formula sheet. Cambridge runs Core and Extended routes with different grade ceilings on several subjects; Pearson generally runs a single tier. Eight or nine subjects at once makes this the year group with the worst mismatch between work to be done and hours available.

Silicon Oasis Year 11 families almost always arrive asking for three or four subjects and leave with two. Mathematics and one science is the usual honest answer, because those are the subjects where a weekly hour changes the paper, while English and the humanities respond better to self-marked practice the student can do without a slot.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Internally assessed work in each subject is marked by the teacher and moderated by the IB. The external papers all fall in one session, so two years converge on about three weeks. The scheduling problem here is different from IGCSE: fewer subjects, but coursework deadlines that cluster and cannot be moved.

A Diploma student living in Silicon Oasis is usually travelling further than a Year 10 sibling, because the local schools that run the full Diploma are fewer than those running IGCSE. That means a later start on weekdays, and it is the main reason Diploma families here end up with one weekday slot and one weekend block.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Assessed against four criteria per subject group, each marked out of eight and converted to a 1-7 grade. There are no external papers until optional eAssessment at the end of Year 11, so all marks come from interim tasks spread across the year. A student can be assessed on one criterion in October and not meet another until February, which makes the reported grade hard to read in isolation.

MYP requests from Silicon Oasis are usually criterion-shaped rather than subject-shaped: a strong student with a weak criterion C in sciences, or a mathematician whose criterion D reflections are thin. Those are short, specific pieces of work that suit a six-week block rather than a year-long slot.

PYPAges 3-11 · FS1-Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Transdisciplinary units with a report written against learning outcomes rather than marks. Reading fluency, number-fact recall and written stamina remain the things that decide how Year 7 goes, and they are exactly what a prose report can hide. At this age session length matters more than session count: thirty focused minutes is worth more than a tired hour.

Primary families in Silicon Oasis have the easiest scheduling problem on paper - the children are home earliest - and the hardest in practice, because the youngest child's slot competes with an older sibling's. A short early session for the younger child before the secondary slot opens is usually the arrangement that holds.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the subjects Silicon Oasis families most often ask for, with a note on whether a weekly slot is the right tool for each. Some subjects move with an hour a week. Others move with marked practice the student does alone, and paying for a slot on those is poor value.

IGCSE Mathematics

Core and Extended

The subject that responds most reliably to a weekly hour, because the failures are specific and diagnosable. Extended candidates lose most marks on multi-step problems that mix two topics and signpost no method. The tier decision taken in Year 10 caps the grade, so check it before booking anything.

IGCSE Physics

Cambridge and Pearson specifications

Electricity and the practical paper account for most of the lost marks. Students who have done the experiments still need deliberate practice at reading someone else's method and finding its weakness, which is the skill the written practical paper actually tests.

IGCSE Chemistry

Cambridge and Pearson specifications

Moles calculations and organic chemistry are where grades are decided, and both reward drill rather than explanation. A weekly slot works well in Year 11 and is often wasted in Year 10, where the content is still being taught and self-marked practice does the same job.

IGCSE Biology

Cambridge and Pearson specifications

Looks like a memory subject, which is why students revise it by rereading. Marks turn on terminology precision and command terms: a described answer to an explain question earns nothing extra, however accurate. Responds better to a retrieval routine than to a weekly lesson.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Calculus and proof are the pressure points at Higher Level. The exploration moves whole grades because it is marked against five lettered criteria and students treat it as a write-up. A slot here earns its cost, particularly in the term the exploration is drafted.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Statistics, modelling and heavy calculator work. Students who chose this route to avoid proof are surprised by how much interpretation is required: an unexamined regression line scores less than a weaker model discussed honestly.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Energetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms carry the Higher Level papers. Most lost marks are not chemistry: they are uncertainty handling and conclusions that outrun the data in the internally assessed investigation.

Physics

HL and SL

Rewards students who read a situation before reaching for an equation. The recurring loss is algebraic - a sound physical argument abandoned when the rearrangement gets untidy. The data-analysis paper is rarely practised outside the lessons spent setting up the investigation.

Business Management and Economics

HL and SL

Both reward application to unfamiliar material under timing. Economics marks sit in correctly labelled diagrams; Business Management marks sit in evaluating a decision rather than describing a company. Short blocks before mocks work better than a year-long slot.

Arabic as an additional language

School and IGCSE routes

A compulsory part of every Dubai school timetable and the stream most tutoring budgets forget until a report arrives. It needs its own tutor and its own goal rather than being folded into an academic slot, and the match is different again for Arabic as a first language.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three session shapes fit a Silicon Oasis week. The choice is not really about teaching style; it is about which shape survives a term in a household where both parents work fixed hours and the bus decides the start time.

One protected weekday slot after the bus

A single fixed hour, same tutor, same day, starting fifteen to thirty minutes after your child's usual arrival. It is deliberately early in the evening, because demanding work does not belong in the leftover hour before bed. Everything else in the week is built around keeping this one slot untouched.

  • Start time set from the actual bus arrival, not a generic 17:00
  • One agreed fallback time rather than a floating reschedule
  • Short written summary after each session with the next target named
  • Reviewed against marked work every six to eight weeks

A weekend block for the heavier work

A longer Saturday or Sunday session for the work that cannot be done in fragments: past papers under timing, a coursework checkpoint, or a topic that needs ninety minutes rather than fifty. Weekend blocks also absorb the sessions a working week eats, which is why most Silicon Oasis plans end up with one weekday slot and one weekend block.

  • Ninety minutes where a full paper and its marking fit
  • Used for coursework checkpoints tied to school draft dates
  • Absorbs a missed weekday session without adding a third commitment
  • Keeps the weekday evening free for school homework

The Friday short-day session

UAE schools and offices run Monday to Friday with a shortened Friday, which leaves a genuinely useful early afternoon that almost nobody books. For families who can use it, a Friday session lands when the student is not already exhausted, and it rarely competes with anything else in the week.

  • Earliest alert slot available in the working week
  • Suits primary and MYP students who fade by evening
  • Easier to hold through exam season than an evening slot
  • Available for tutors across several time zones

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai Silicon Oasis

01

What time a session can realistically start from each route

A direct answer first. For a Silicon Oasis family whose child attends a school inside the community, a session can begin at 16:15 or 16:30. For a child bussed from Nad Al Sheba or Mirdif, 17:15 is the honest floor. For a Diploma student travelling from the Al Barsha or Umm Suqeim corridor, 18:00. Those three numbers decide more about whether tutoring works than the choice of tutor does.

The reason is simple and under-discussed. A session that starts at the edge of a child's capacity produces the appearance of tutoring rather than the effect. The student is physically present, the tutor works, the hour is billed, and nothing transfers because attention was gone before the first question. Parents notice this as a vague sense that the lessons are not landing, and they usually blame the tutor.

The table below maps the main routes into Silicon Oasis against a realistic arrival window and the earliest start we would recommend. These are operational figures from scheduling Dubai families rather than a published survey, and they will be wrong for your household by fifteen minutes in one direction or the other. Tell us which school and which route, and we set the slot from that rather than from an average.

One consequence of online delivery is worth naming here, because it is the whole reason the timing conversation is even possible. A tutor who drives has to fit your household between two other households and a journey across Dubai, so the slot you are offered is the one that suits the route. A tutor teaching over live video can start at 16:20 on a Tuesday because nothing has to physically arrive anywhere.

02

Two slots, and the discipline of choosing which two

Once the honest number of weekly sessions is two, the planning question changes shape entirely. It is no longer how much tutoring to buy. It is which two subjects will convert an hour into marks, and which subjects should be handled by the student alone with a marking scheme and a timer. Getting that allocation right is worth more than adding a third session, and it costs nothing.

The sorting rule is reasonably reliable. Subjects where failure is specific and diagnosable - Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics - convert a slot into marks efficiently, because a tutor can watch the student work and see exactly which step breaks. Subjects where failure is diffuse - essay subjects, content-heavy Biology, the humanities - respond better to repeated marked practice, which a disciplined student can run themselves with a past paper and a published scheme.

Year group changes the answer too. A Year 10 student at the start of IGCSE usually needs nothing beyond a study routine, and paying for two slots in October of Year 10 is often money spent eleven months early. A Year 11 student in January needs the slots badly, pointed at the two weakest papers. A Diploma student in the exploration term needs one slot on maths coursework and the other kept free for whichever subject's internal assessment is next.

The table gives the allocations we recommend most often by situation. Treat it as a starting position to argue with rather than a prescription - your child's weakest subject is not necessarily the one where an hour buys the most. The subject to fund is the one where a specific, fixable failure is visible in the marked work.

Online, in-home and group tuition with Silicon Oasis travel priced in

The format comparison usually gets made on price per hour, which hides the part that matters in a community like this. An in-home tutor charges for travel whether or not the invoice says so, and Silicon Oasis sits far enough from the villa districts where many freelance tutors live that the premium is real. A group class is cheaper per head and slower per head, which is a reasonable trade for some students and a waste for others.

The figures below are market rates read from provider sites and a published Dubai rate survey in October 2026. They are not IB Gram's price list; ask us for our figure before booking and compare it against the band. What the table adds to a generic comparison is the Silicon Oasis column: what each format actually involves from an apartment in this community, rather than in the abstract.

Note the honest entry on in-home tutoring. IB Gram does not run home visits in Dubai, because in-home tuition is a service offered only in India. The row exists because it is a genuine option in this market and you should be able to compare it properly, including the part where you are paying someone to sit in traffic on Al Ain Road. If physical presence matters more to your family than specialist match, an in-home tutor is the right choice and we will say so.

The one format worth more attention than it gets is the sibling-shared session, where two children at a similar stage in the same subject take one hour together. It only works when the stages genuinely match, and it fails badly when a parent forces it on children two years apart. Where it does work, it halves the cost per child and halves the number of slots an evening has to absorb, which in a Silicon Oasis week is the bigger saving.

Ramadan, term breaks and the calendar a plan has to respect

A term plan written in September that ignores the UAE calendar will be rewritten twice before February. Ramadan shortens school days and shifts the whole household rhythm, with the useful study window moving to after Iftar for many families. Term breaks in the Dubai school year are long enough that a four-week gap can undo a term of progress if nothing is set to carry over it. Exam windows then compress everything into a few weeks.

The practical approach is to decide in advance what happens at each of those points rather than improvising. During Ramadan, families who want to keep continuity usually move to shorter sessions at a later hour, or pause the academic slot and keep only a coursework checkpoint. Both are reasonable. What does not work is leaving the slot nominally in place and cancelling it weekly, because that produces the cost of tutoring with none of the effect.

Term breaks need the opposite treatment. A short holiday block - three or four sessions across a two-week break - holds position far better than a full programme, and it is also the only time of year when a student has the capacity to fix something structural rather than keeping up. The summer break is long enough to need a deliberate decision: either a genuine block with a target, or a clean stop with a restart date in the diary.

Then there are the board deadlines, which move independently of the school calendar. A Cambridge June entry closes in the spring, roughly four months before the first paper, with results reaching the centre on Cambridge Direct in August; the November series shifts that to a later entry and results in January, and the exact dates for your child sit on the statement of entry rather than being fixed year to year. Pearson Edexcel runs International GCSE in May/June and November, with November 2026 papers finishing on 19 November and results reaching students in January. IB session dates are not stated on this page: the IB's own site blocks automated checking, so ask your child's coordinator for the confirmed window and build the plan from that.

05

Which schools Silicon Oasis children attend, and why the code matters more than the bus

Silicon Oasis is unusual in having schools inside the community while also sitting within reach of Academic City, Nad Al Sheba, Mirdif and Al Warqa. The result is a community where neighbouring apartments can hold a Cambridge IGCSE student, a Pearson IGCSE student, a Diploma student and a child on an Indian curriculum, all leaving on different buses at different times.

For tutoring this creates one recurring error. Parents describe their child's course by subject and year group, a tutor is matched on that, and three sessions in it becomes clear the tutor has been teaching the wrong specification. Cambridge and Pearson differ in paper structure, in tiering and in what appears on the formula sheet, and the difference is not cosmetic. The fix takes one question: ask the school's examinations officer for the syllabus code on the entry form.

Dubai's private school market gives some sense of the spread. KHDA counted 227 private schools with 387,441 pupils in 2024-25, offering seventeen different curricula, with the British route the largest by enrolment and the IB accounting for around 7% of enrolment. Dubai is adding seven new private schools for 2026-27, four British and three IB, creating 16,846 places - so the mix in a community like this keeps shifting rather than settling.

Keep the regulator's role clear in your own mind. KHDA licenses and inspects Dubai private schools and publishes inspection outcomes on a six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak. It does not license private tutors, and no tutoring platform is inspected under that framework. A school's inspection band tells you about the school; it tells you nothing about whether your child's slot is being used well.

06

Is the person teaching your child legally permitted to do it?

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit, and the rules are more specific than most parents realise. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen.

MoHRE's own service page lists the permit as Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, with no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so no amount appears on this page; a figure circulating online could not be verified against any official source.

Two conditions matter for a Silicon Oasis family in particular. First, the permit carries a code of conduct that bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school, and Abu Dhabi's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school. Hiring your child's own teacher privately is therefore not the shortcut it appears to be. Second, a tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different legal animal and needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute.

IB Gram holds no such permit and operates no centre, office or branch in the UAE; lessons are delivered online. Equally, no claim of approval, accreditation or licensing by KHDA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson appears anywhere on this site, because none is held. The table sets out the categories so that you can ask an individual tutor a precise question rather than a vague one.

What a tutor may do with assessed work, said plainly

  • Criteria taught by letter with the mark allocation shown
  • Method, data and argument questioned; the student answers
  • Feedback given as questions, never as replacement sentences
  • Official papers and mark schemes referenced and linked, not redistributed

There are providers ranking for these searches that sell finished internal assessments at a fixed price. It needs saying directly: a student who submits purchased work is exposed to their school's academic honesty process and, under IB rules, to a malpractice finding that can cost an entire diploma. The provider takes the fee. The student takes the consequence, and it is not a proportionate one.

Legitimate support is narrower and genuinely more useful. A tutor teaches the criteria by letter and the marks attached to each. A tutor interrogates a research question until it is answerable within the word limit. A tutor questions the method, the sample, the controls and the mathematics. A tutor reads a draft and replies with questions - why this comparison, what does the graph show that the table does not, which limitation would an examiner notice first. The student then makes their own decisions, in their own words.

What a tutor must never do is supply text, restructure an argument on the student's behalf, or hand back a rewritten version to be retyped. The test is straightforward: at the end, the student should be able to defend every decision in the work under questioning, without notes, because every decision was theirs. If they cannot, the help went too far regardless of who gave it or how it was described.

The same boundary covers the Extended Essay, the Theory of Knowledge essay, the MYP Personal Project and IGCSE coursework. Ask any prospective tutor how they handle a draft, and listen for whether the answer involves giving the student a better version. Note also that past papers, mark schemes and subject guides belong to the boards: a tutor should reference and link official material rather than distribute copies of it.

08

How to tell whether the slot is working, not just filling the evening

Tutoring is unusually easy to continue paying for without evidence. The session happens, the student seems more confident, everyone feels better, and nobody checks whether marks moved. In a household already stretched for time, that is the worst possible outcome: the evening is being spent and the problem is still there. So the review mechanism matters as much as the teaching.

What counts as evidence is narrow. School report grades are too slow and too soft. Confidence is not evidence. The things that count are marks on the student's own returned papers, scores on timed past papers marked against the published scheme, and whether the specific failure identified in the diagnostic has stopped appearing. If the diagnostic said the student cannot start an unprompted question, the test is whether they now start unprompted questions.

Set the review point before the first session, not when doubt arrives. Six to eight weeks is right for a weekly slot: long enough for a habit to change, short enough that a wrong match is not carried for a term. At that point there are three legitimate outcomes - continue, change tutor, or stop - and stopping should be a normal result rather than a failure. Tutoring that has done its job should end.

Ask for the written record too. Each session should produce a short note naming what was worked on and what the next target is, which is also how you spot drift: four consecutive notes on the same topic mean something is not landing. A provider who cannot produce that record is asking you to take the benefit on trust over a whole term, in a market where the hour costs AED 150 to 450.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Dubai Silicon Oasis

Silicon Oasis sits where the Nad Al Hamar road meets Academic City, so its families draw on schools in four directions and sit in four different kinds of traffic. The notes below describe what each neighbouring community does to an evening timetable.

Dubai Silicon Oasis

Apartment towers around the Digital Park plus the villa clusters at Cedre and Semmer. Families inside the community whose children attend the school on site can start a session before five; those on longer bus routes cannot.

Dubai International Academic City

Immediately south, mostly university campuses with a handful of schools. The drive is short but the exit roads back up at the end of the working day, which pushes arrivals later than the distance suggests.

Nad Al Sheba

Villa district to the west holding several of the larger British and IB schools. A Silicon Oasis child at a Nad Al Sheba school is typically home half an hour later than a sibling at the local school.

Mirdif

Dense villa suburb to the north with its own cluster of schools. Mirdif routes are short in distance and slow in practice, because the bus works through several communities before reaching Silicon Oasis.

Al Warqa

Established villa area with a strong set of Indian-curriculum and British-curriculum schools. Al Warqa requests skew heavily towards IGCSE Mathematics and the separate sciences in Years 10 and 11.

International City

High-density apartment community a few minutes east. Households here are often budgeting a single subject rather than a programme, and the question of which subject to fund first is the one that matters.

The Villa and Dubailand

Villa communities to the south-west, served by a different set of schools again. Longer bus journeys mean a 17:30 start is the realistic floor for secondary students living on that side.

Dubai Festival City and Al Garhoud

North along the creek, where the school run is unusually short. Families moving from there to Silicon Oasis are often surprised by what the extra twenty minutes does to an evening plan.

The schools a Silicon Oasis family can reach without joining a motorway. They sit on different boards, which is why a tutor match has to start from the entry code rather than the uniform. Students we support attend schools across this cluster.

Give us the school name, the bus route and roughly when your child walks through the door. That is what sets the slot. A request without it gets a generic evening offer, which is the single commonest reason a tutoring plan collapses by half term in a community with Silicon Oasis commutes.

  2. 02

Send the syllabus code with the subject

Ask the examinations officer for the code on the entry form - 0580, 0625, 4MA1 - or give the IB subject and level with the school's own deadline dates. The code decides the papers and therefore the correct tutor. Subject name plus year group is not enough to match on accurately.

  3. 03

One diagnostic hour on returned work

The first session works on marked scripts and a short set of unprompted questions rather than teaching. It identifies which specific failure is costing marks, and you receive that in writing. Everything after it is shaped by the finding, including whether two slots are needed or one will do.

  4. 04

Fix two protected slots and one fallback

We agree a weekday slot timed off the bus, a weekend block for the heavier work, and a single named fallback time for the weeks something collapses. The tutor's base and time zone are stated before you confirm. Two slots that always happen beat four that mostly do not.

  5. 05

Build the term backwards from the deadlines

The plan starts at the examination or coursework deadline and works back to this week, with entry deadlines, mock windows, Ramadan and term breaks marked. Cambridge and Pearson dates come from the official timetables; IB dates come from your child's coordinator rather than from a tutoring page.

  6. 06

Review on marks at six to eight weeks

We compare the plan against actual marked work and decide to continue, change tutor or stop. Stopping is a normal outcome. A provider with no review point and no exit is selling a standing order, and in a week this tight that is an evening you cannot get back.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The slot is set from your bus, not our diary

Because nobody has to drive anywhere, a session can start fifteen minutes after your child gets home rather than whenever a tutor's route allows. In a community where arrivals range across two hours, that is the difference between a session that works and one that is merely attended.

Two slots planned honestly

We plan for the number of sessions a working household can actually protect, then argue carefully about which two subjects earn them. Over-booking in September is the commonest way a Silicon Oasis tutoring budget gets wasted by November.

Matched on specification, not on uniform

Silicon Oasis children attend schools on several boards, so the match starts from the syllabus code. Cambridge and Pearson differ in papers, tiering and formula sheets, and a tutor teaching the wrong one can do it competently for a whole term.

Rates in AED with their sources named

Every figure on this page is attributed to the provider or survey that published it, and dated to October 2026. You can check each one and hold any quote, including ours, against it.

The calendar is in the plan, not a surprise

Ramadan, term breaks, mock windows and board entry deadlines are marked before the first session. The Cambridge entry deadline that closes in the spring decides the grade ceiling for the June papers, and finding that out late costs a whole series.

A coursework line that does not move

Tutors teach, question and give feedback; no part of an assessed task is produced for the student. The test is whether your child can defend every choice unaided, and that test exists to protect them rather than us.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai Silicon Oasis: your questions answered

What time can a tutoring session start for a Dubai Silicon Oasis family?+

It depends on the route rather than the community. A child at a school inside Silicon Oasis is usually home by about 16:00, so a 16:15 start is realistic and worth protecting. A child bussed from Mirdif, Al Warqa or Nad Al Sheba typically arrives between 16:45 and 17:30, which puts the floor at about 17:30. A Diploma student travelling from the Al Barsha or Jumeirah corridor is often not back until 18:00. Tell us the school and the route and we set the slot from that, because a session timed at the edge of a child's capacity produces attendance rather than progress.

Does IB Gram send tutors into Dubai Silicon Oasis apartments?+

No. IB Gram does not provide in-home tutoring anywhere in the UAE; in-home visits are a service offered only in India. Lessons for Silicon Oasis families run one-to-one over live video with screen sharing, which is how a tutor and a student work through a marked script together. The practical advantage in this community is timing: a session can begin minutes after the bus arrives, because nothing has to travel. The second advantage is the tutor pool, which becomes everyone who teaches your child's specification rather than everyone who can reach Silicon Oasis by car.

Is the Friday short day any good as a tutoring slot in Dubai?+

It is the most underused slot in the week. UAE schools and offices run Monday to Friday with a shortened Friday, so most students are free from early afternoon and are not yet tired. A session at 14:00 on a Friday lands on a student with capacity left, competes with almost nothing else in the family timetable, and survives exam season better than an evening slot. It suits primary and Middle Years students particularly well, since they fade earliest. Very few families ask for it, which also means availability is better than in the weekday evening peak.

We both work in the free zone. Does an online lesson need supervising?+

Not supervising, but it needs a setup. The student should be in a room with a door, on a laptop rather than a phone, with the subject material and a notebook already open before the session starts. For primary and lower Middle Years children, an adult or older sibling in the house helps for the first few sessions until the routine holds. You get a short written note after each session naming what was covered and what the next target is, so you can see what happened without having been in the room. That written record is also how drift gets spotted early.

How many sessions a week can a Silicon Oasis evening actually hold?+

For most working households, two. One weekday slot timed off the bus and one longer weekend block is the arrangement that survives a full term. Families who book three or four in September typically lose one to cancellations and let another drift to nine at night, where very little transfers. Two sessions that always happen outperform four that mostly do not, and the planning energy is better spent choosing which two subjects earn the slots. Subjects with specific diagnosable failures, such as Mathematics and the sciences, convert an hour into marks faster than essay subjects do.

Which schools do most Dubai Silicon Oasis children attend?+

Some attend schools inside the community or in neighbouring Academic City; many are bussed to Nad Al Sheba, Mirdif, Al Warqa or Al Qusais, and a smaller number travel across to the Al Barsha corridor. The important point for tutoring is the spread of boards rather than the list of names. Two children in neighbouring apartments can sit entirely different Physics papers depending on whether their school entered them with Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel. Ask the school's examinations officer for the syllabus code on the entry form before booking any subject tutor.

Is a small group cheaper than one-to-one for a Silicon Oasis child?+

Cheaper per hour and slower per hour. A group of two to four works reasonably for general revision where everyone needs the same content covered again. It works poorly for a specific diagnosed failure, because the tutor cannot stop and watch one student attempt forty unprompted questions while three others wait. A sibling-shared session is the better version of this idea when two children are genuinely at the same stage in the same subject: it halves the cost per child and, more valuably in a tight week, halves the number of slots the evening has to hold.

What does in-home tutoring cost once Silicon Oasis travel is counted?+

Market rates for in-home one-to-one in Dubai run roughly AED 180-500 an hour with travel included, against AED 150-300 for a qualified subject tutor online and AED 200-450 or more for an IB or IGCSE specialist. Those figures come from a published Dubai rate survey and provider listings read in October 2026. The travel component is real in this community, because Silicon Oasis is a drive from the villa districts where many independent tutors live. IB Gram does not offer in-home visits in the UAE, so the row is here for comparison rather than as something we sell.

Should we keep the Silicon Oasis slot running through Ramadan or pause it?+

Yes, and for many families that is the better arrangement. School days shorten, the household rhythm changes, and the genuinely productive window often sits after Iftar. Two approaches work: move to shorter sessions at a later hour, or pause the academic slot and keep only a coursework checkpoint so deadlines do not slip. Both are reasonable and both should be decided in advance. What does not work is leaving the slot nominally in place and cancelling week by week, which produces the full cost of tutoring and almost none of the effect.

What should happen to the plan over the long summer break?+

Decide deliberately rather than drifting. A long break is the only point in the year when a student has capacity to fix something structural instead of keeping up, so a genuine block with a stated target - rebuilding algebra before Year 11, or drafting an exploration properly - is good value. A clean stop with a restart date in the diary is equally valid. The arrangement to avoid is a nominal weekly slot through July and August that is cancelled half the time, because it costs money, achieves nothing and makes the restart in September harder.

Do private tutors working in Dubai Silicon Oasis need a MoHRE permit?+

Yes. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible categories include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. MoHRE lists the service with no fee and a two-working-day completion time through its app, website and e-services. Tutoring without a permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule has been published, so no figure is quoted here. Asking an individual tutor whether they hold it is a fair and quick question.

Can we hire a teacher from my child's own school for private lessons?+

That route is closed, and deliberately so. The MoHRE permit carries a code of conduct barring a tutor from serving students affiliated with their own school, and Abu Dhabi's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit paid private tutoring of students enrolled at the teacher's own school. The conflict of interest is obvious once stated: the person teaching the class, setting the assessments and reporting the grade should not also be paid privately by the family. A specialist who teaches the same specification elsewhere gives you the subject knowledge without the conflict.

Will a tutor help my child meet a school coursework deadline?+

A tutor can help the student meet it; a tutor cannot meet it for them. Support means teaching the criteria and their mark allocations, questioning the research question until it is answerable, interrogating method and data, and responding to a draft with questions rather than corrections. It does not mean supplying text, restructuring the argument or handing back a version to retype. The test is whether your child can defend every choice in the work unaided. Purchased or ghostwritten coursework exposes the student to a school academic honesty process and, under IB rules, to a malpractice finding.

How will we know the slot is working rather than just filling the evening?+

By looking at marks on your child's own returned work and on timed past papers scored against the published scheme, and by checking whether the specific failure named in the diagnostic has stopped appearing. Confidence is not evidence and school report grades are too slow. Set a review point before the first session - six to eight weeks is right for a weekly slot - with three legitimate outcomes: continue, change tutor, or stop. Stopping should be a normal result. Ask also for the short written note after each session, because four consecutive notes on the same topic mean something is not landing.

What should we send before the first Silicon Oasis session?+

Four things, and none of them take long. The syllabus code or the IB subject and level, taken from the entry form rather than the report. The school's own coursework deadline dates for this term. The last two pieces of marked work, including the one that went badly. And the bus arrival time, which sets the slot. With those, the diagnostic hour can be spent on diagnosis rather than on collecting information, and you get a written assessment, a named tutor who teaches that specification, the rate and a review date.

Set the slot first, then choose the subject

The order most families use is to pick a subject, book a tutor and then try to find an hour. In a Silicon Oasis week that order fails. Start from the hour: tell us when your child actually gets home, how many sessions this household can protect for a whole term, and which two subjects show a specific, fixable failure in the marked work. Send the syllabus code, the school's deadline dates and the last marked paper. You will get a written diagnostic, a named tutor teaching that specification, the rate in AED, the tutor's base and time zone, and a review date six to eight weeks out. Lessons run online, one-to-one, over live video.
