IB Tutor near me in Dubai Silicon Oasis

Searching for an IB tutor near me in Dubai Silicon Oasis usually happens at one of three moments in the Diploma, and each needs something different. The two-year calendar is unevenly loaded: internal deadlines cluster, the Extended Essay runs underneath everything, and the weeks before the May examinations can only consolidate. This page lays the whole calendar out so you can see which weeks you are in, then delivers lessons as live one-to-one video on Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Dubai Silicon Oasis

The Diploma is two years long and very unevenly loaded

Families in Dubai Silicon Oasis usually start searching at one of three moments. The first is early in DP1, when a capable student suddenly brings home grades they have never seen before. The second is the February or March of DP2, when several internal deadlines land in the same fortnight and the household stops functioning. The third is roughly ten weeks before the May examinations, when somebody realises how much of the grade is still unprepared.

Those three moments need entirely different things, and the mistake is treating them as the same request. The first is usually about adjusting to external examination standards and to the volume of independent reading, which is a term of adjustment rather than a crisis. The second is a scheduling problem dressed up as an academic one. The third is a consolidation job with a hard ceiling on what can be achieved.

What makes the Diploma hard to plan is that the calendar is not published in one place. The board sets the examination windows and the upload deadlines. The school sets the internal deadlines for every subject's internal assessment, the Extended Essay milestones, the Theory of Knowledge exhibition and essay dates, and the mock window. The student discovers them one at a time, usually a week before each. A parent who collects all of them in September has an enormous advantage.

We publish no IB examination or results dates on this page, deliberately. The IB's own site blocks automated checking, so no session or results date in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself, and an unverified date that a family plans around is worse than no date at all. UAE schools sit the May examinations. Your child's IB coordinator holds the real windows, and the internal deadlines are the ones that drive tuition timing anyway.

IB Gram does not run home visits in Dubai; home visits are a service we offer only in India. Across Silicon Oasis, Cedre Villas, Academic City, The Villa and Nad Al Sheba, lessons are live one-to-one video on Gulf Standard Time. For calendar work that matters: when a deadline moves or a mock week shifts, a session can be rescheduled in a message, which a visiting arrangement in this corridor cannot absorb nearly as easily.

The rest of this page is the calendar in detail. What each term of DP1 and DP2 is for. Why February is congested and what to do about it. How the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge timelines run underneath the subjects. What mocks are actually for. And what the final ten weeks can and cannot deliver, which is the single most useful thing to know before buying anything.

One more framing. A calendar plan is usually a smaller plan placed better rather than a larger one. Families who read the two years properly often buy fewer total hours than those who arrive in February, because the DP1 blocks do the structural work cheaply and the final stretch is then free to do the only thing it is actually good at. The saving comes from the sequencing, not from negotiating a rate.

At a glance

  • Three common entry points: early DP1, the February deadline cluster, and ten weeks out
  • The board sets examination windows; the school sets every deadline that governs tuition
  • Collect all internal deadlines in September rather than meeting them one at a time
  • No IB session or results dates are published here; the IB coordinator holds them
  • UAE schools sit the May examinations, and the internal calendar is what drives planning
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The Diploma sits at the end of a sequence, and where a student is in that sequence changes what a tutoring plan should be aimed at. These are the three stages and their calendar shapes.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme, before DP1

Criterion-referenced assessment against four criteria per subject, each marked 1 to 8, with totals converted to a 1 to 7 grade using published boundaries. Strong on investigation, reflection and process writing; light on timed external examination technique unless the school uses MYP eAssessment.

For a Silicon Oasis family the useful calendar insight is that the spring and summer between MYP 5 and DP1 is the cheapest intervention window in the whole sequence. Algebraic fluency and timed-paper technique are the two gaps, and both can be closed before DP1 starts rather than discovered in October.

DP1Ages 16-17 · Year 12

Diploma year one

Six subjects begin in parallel, Theory of Knowledge starts, the Extended Essay is introduced and a supervisor allocated, and Creativity, Activity, Service begins accumulating. Most internal assessments are introduced but not yet due. The year feels manageable until roughly the second term, when the accumulation becomes visible.

DP1 is the block with runway, and it is the one families in this corridor habitually leave alone because nothing is yet failing. Structural work on reading volume, written reasoning and mathematical fluency belongs here, where there is time for it to become habit rather than information.

DP2Ages 17-19 · Year 13

Diploma year two

Internal assessments fall due across every subject, the Extended Essay reaches submission, the Theory of Knowledge essay is written against a prescribed title, mocks are sat, and the May examinations follow. University applications overlay the first half of the year with their own deadlines.

DP2 is where the congestion lives. The internal deadlines cluster because every subject sets one and the school places them within the board's windows, so three in a fortnight is routine rather than unlucky. A parent holding the full list in September can spread the work; one discovering them individually cannot.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

This grid is organised around when each subject's internal assessment and heaviest demands land, because that is the calendar question for a Diploma family. Take it to your child's coordinator and fill in the actual dates.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The exploration is usually set in DP1 and due in DP2. Paper 1 is sat without a calculator, and Paper 3 exists only at Higher Level. Paper 3 strategy is the component that responds least well to late preparation, so it belongs in the DP1 and early DP2 blocks.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Same exploration weighting and the same Higher Level Paper 3, with the calculator permitted throughout. The calendar risk here is different: statistics and modelling content often arrives late in the scheme of work, compressing it against the exploration deadline.

Chemistry

HL and SL

The scientific investigation carries a fifth of the grade and its school deadline is typically in DP2. Organic chemistry is usually taught late, which means it lands beside mocks and the investigation, and that collision is the reason chemistry requests spike in the second term.

Physics

HL and SL

Also carries a scientific investigation worth a fifth of the grade, with the same deadline congestion. Nuclear and quantum physics is generally taught last, so it is met under time pressure, and uncertainty treatment is needed for both the investigation and Paper 1.

Biology

HL and SL

Large content volume spread across both years, with the investigation in DP2. The calendar risk is cumulative rather than acute: biology rewards steady revision and punishes a student who leaves it until the final block, because there is simply too much to compress.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

The individual oral is scheduled by the school, usually in DP2, and the Higher Level essay has its own deadline. Both are internal dates rather than board ones, and both are frequently placed in the same term as the science investigations.

Economics

HL and SL

The internal assessment is a portfolio of commentaries on published articles, written across both years rather than in one block. That makes it the most calendar-friendly internal assessment in the Diploma, provided the student does not leave all three commentaries until DP2.

Business Management

HL and SL

A research project with its own internal deadline, plus Higher Level extension content. Students often underestimate how early the research has to begin, because the project depends on access to information about a real organisation.

Theory of Knowledge

Core component

Assessed through the exhibition and the prescribed-title essay, the latter externally marked. The exhibition generally sits in DP1 and the essay in DP2, and the essay deadline is almost always inside the congested fortnight.

The Extended Essay

Core component

A 4,000-word independent research essay with a school supervisor and staged milestones running from DP1 into DP2. Because its milestones are internal, they vary between schools, and they are the single most commonly underestimated item on the Diploma calendar.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three shapes, each belonging to a different part of the Diploma calendar. All run as live one-to-one video lessons on Gulf Standard Time, so a session can move when an internal deadline shifts.

DP1 foundation block

Weekly through DP1, aimed at the things that become habits rather than at the current topic. Mathematical fluency, written reasoning that names a mechanism, reading volume and note discipline. This is the block with runway, and it is the one families in this corridor most often skip because nothing has failed yet.

  • Aimed at capability, not at this week's homework
  • Paper 3 strategy introduced early where Higher Level applies
  • Runs to the DP1 mock or end-of-year assessment, then reviewed
  • The only block where a structural fix is genuinely realistic

Deadline-cluster support

Short, scheduled sessions placed against the school's internal deadlines rather than on a weekly rhythm. One at a research-question stage, one on a complete draft, one on the next component. This is a scheduling intervention as much as a teaching one, and it is what the congested fortnight actually needs.

  • Placed against named school dates, not on a fixed weekday
  • Feedback on the student's own draft, never drafting
  • Two or three hours per component rather than a term
  • Booked in September, when the dates are known and slots are open

Final-stretch consolidation

The last eight to ten weeks before the May examinations, aimed at marked timed papers, command terms and question selection. Technique moves faster than content, so this block earns its cost, provided nobody asks it to build something structural in the time available.

  • Full papers under timing, marked against published criteria
  • Command terms and extended-response technique drilled
  • Fixed end date, so the budget has a visible ceiling
  • Explicit about what cannot be reached in the weeks left

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai Silicon Oasis

01

The two-year calendar, term by term

Laid out properly, the Diploma stops looking like two undifferentiated years and starts looking like six blocks with distinct jobs. DP1 autumn is adjustment: six subjects beginning at once, Theory of Knowledge starting, and a student discovering that external examination standards are not Middle Years standards. DP1 spring is where the Extended Essay question should be settled and where mathematical and written fluency can still be built from the ground up.

DP1 summer term and the holiday after it are the most under-used stretch in the whole programme. Internal assessments have been introduced, the Extended Essay has a supervisor, and nothing is due. A student who uses that summer to get a first Extended Essay draft written and to finish one internal assessment arrives at DP2 with the congested fortnight already half dismantled. Almost nobody does this, and the families who do describe DP2 completely differently.

DP2 autumn carries university applications, the Theory of Knowledge essay against a prescribed title, and the beginning of internal assessment submissions. DP2 winter and early spring is the congestion: multiple internal deadlines, the Extended Essay final submission, and mocks, frequently overlapping. DP2 final block is consolidation before the May examinations, and it can do technique and nothing structural.

The table below is the shape to fill in with your own school's dates. Treat the final column as the honest answer to what tutoring can achieve in each block, because that is the column that determines whether money spent will do anything. A family that reads it in September of DP1 has roughly four times the options of one reading it in February of DP2.

02

Why February is congested, and what to do in September

Every Diploma subject carries an internal assessment, and the school places each one inside the board's windows. With six subjects plus the Extended Essay plus the Theory of Knowledge essay, that is eight substantial pieces of work with eight internal deadlines, and schools inevitably cluster several of them in the same part of DP2. Three deadlines in one fortnight is not bad luck. It is arithmetic, and it is predictable a year in advance.

The intervention that works is not more tutoring in February. It is collecting all eight dates in September of DP1, writing them on one page, and then moving whatever can be moved earlier. An Economics commentary can be written in DP1. A mathematics exploration topic can be chosen in DP1. An Extended Essay draft can exist by the end of the DP1 summer. None of that requires paid help; it requires knowing the dates.

Where paid help earns its place is at the front of each component rather than the back. One session narrowing a research question, one on a complete first draft, and nothing in between. A weak research question is cheap to fix in September and impossible to fix in February, because by then the data has been collected or the reading has been done. That asymmetry is the whole argument for front-loading.

There is also a triage version for families already inside the congestion. Put the eight items in order of marks at stake and of how much is already done, decide explicitly which one will be finished to a lower standard, and tell the student that decision has been made. Students collapse in that fortnight because they are trying to do everything well. A parent who removes that expectation changes the outcome more than an extra tutor would.

03

The Extended Essay timeline, which nobody respects early enough

The Extended Essay is a 4,000-word independent research essay with a supervisor at the school and staged milestones running from DP1 into DP2. Because every milestone is internal rather than set by the board, they vary between schools in this corridor, and because they are internal they are often treated by students as advisory. They are not: a missed interim milestone compresses everything after it.

The commonest failure is a research question that is too broad, chosen because it sounded serious, and not narrowed until a supervisor sees a draft. By then the reading has been done against the wrong question and much of it cannot be reused. Narrowing takes one conversation and belongs in DP1. It is the single highest-value hour available anywhere in the Diploma core, and it costs almost nothing.

The second failure is the reflection and process element being reconstructed at the end. Supervisors expect a record of how the thinking developed, and a record written from memory in DP2 reads exactly like one written from memory. Keeping it as the work proceeds is a habit rather than a skill, which is why establishing it in DP1 is worth more than any amount of help later.

The boundary here is absolute and it is where this market bends most often. A tutor may discuss the research question, explain what the assessment criteria reward, model a comparable essay on a different topic, read a draft your child has written and say where it falls short, and teach citation and referencing properly. A tutor may not write, draft, complete, rewrite or supply any part of it. The essay is declared as the student's own work.

04

Theory of Knowledge, and why it lands at the worst moment

  • Assessed through the exhibition and the externally marked prescribed-title essay
  • No content to revise, which is why students underrate the work involved
  • Two or three practice responses in DP1 remove most of the DP2 difficulty
  • In DP2, legitimate support is feedback on the student's own draft and nothing else

Theory of Knowledge is assessed through the exhibition and the prescribed-title essay, with the essay externally marked. The exhibition generally sits in DP1 and the essay in DP2, and the essay deadline is almost always inside the congested fortnight, competing with internal assessments that feel more urgent because they belong to named subjects.

Students consistently underrate it for a structural reason: Theory of Knowledge has no content to revise, so it does not feel like a subject with work attached. What it has instead is a way of arguing, and that is built through practice rather than preparation. A student who has written two or three practice responses in DP1 writes a competent prescribed-title essay quickly. One who has written none finds the task genuinely alien.

The essay is written against a title released by the board, which means the specific question cannot be prepared in advance, and that is precisely why the general skill has to be. The skill is identifying knowledge claims, choosing areas of knowledge that genuinely illuminate the title, and using real examples rather than invented ones. All three are teachable, and all three take practice rather than explanation.

For a tutoring plan the implication is clear: Theory of Knowledge support belongs in DP1, cheaply, as practice, and in DP2 only as feedback on a draft the student has written. A family buying Theory of Knowledge help for the first time three weeks before the deadline is buying the hardest version of the task. A family that spent two hours on it in DP1 usually needs nothing in DP2 at all.

05

What mocks are actually for

  • Sort lost marks into five categories: content, timing, command term, answer structure, presentation
  • The largest category decides what the final block is for
  • Answer structure is the most teachable and often the most valuable
  • Use the review to cancel a booking as well as to begin one

Diploma mocks are marked by the school at no cost and they are the best diagnostic available in the two years. Most families read the predicted grade and respond emotionally to it. The grade is the least useful output. The useful output is the distribution of lost marks across components and the pattern of why they were lost, and extracting that takes about an hour and no subject expertise.

Sort every lost mark into five categories: did not know the content, knew it but ran out of time, misread what the command term required, knew it and wrote an answer that did not earn the marks, or lost it to presentation and working. Count the five. Nearly every student produces a heavily skewed result, and the largest category dictates what the final block should contain.

The categories map onto very different purchases. A content category means revision, which is the cheapest help available and can often be supervised rather than taught. A timing category means question selection and pacing, which moves fast. A command-term category is close to a single session. An answer-structure category is the most teachable thing on the list and the one that most often converts a 5 into a 6.

Mocks are also the right moment to cut. A subject that has stabilised since DP1 does not need the remaining months of weekly lessons, and redirecting that booking to whatever the mock newly exposed is free. Nobody in the market has an incentive to prompt that review, which is exactly why it belongs on a page like this one rather than in a sales conversation.

06

The final ten weeks, honestly

Ten weeks before the May examinations is when the largest share of Diploma tutoring in Dubai is bought, and it is the block with the hardest ceiling. What it reliably delivers is technique: command-term reading, extended-response structure, timing and question selection, working layout, and consolidation of content the student has already met. Those are real marks and they are frequently worth a grade boundary.

What it does not deliver is fluency or coverage. A Higher Level mathematics student who cannot manipulate algebra confidently in March will still hesitate in May. A chemistry student who has never understood organic mechanisms cannot acquire mechanistic reasoning in ten weeks, because that is pattern recognition built through exposure over months. A physics student who has avoided uncertainty treatment all year can learn the procedures, and that is one of the few structural-looking gaps that is genuinely closable late.

So a final-block plan should be built from an explicit list of what is in scope and what is not, and the student should be told which is which. Plans that quietly include an impossible goal produce a sense of failure rather than progress, and they are also the plans that end with a family concluding tutoring does not work. Naming the ceiling is the thing that makes the block succeed.

One practical note about intensity. A student revising at maximum intensity in the last two weeks arrives at the papers depleted, and the marginal topic learned in that fortnight is worth less than the alertness lost. The plans that work taper: heavier at weeks ten to four, lighter at three to one, with the final week spent on an error tally rather than on new material.

Creativity, Activity, Service and the time nobody budgets

  • CAS requirements and checkpoints belong on the same page as the eight academic deadlines
  • Reflections written as experiences happen cost almost nothing; reconstructed ones cost a fortnight
  • University application deadlines collide with the TOK essay and the first IA submissions
  • Collecting every date in September of DP1 is free and outperforms buying hours in February

Creativity, Activity, Service runs across both Diploma years with its own requirements and its own reflective record. It is not graded like a subject, which leads students to treat it as optional until a deadline appears, and then it consumes evenings in exactly the fortnight when internal assessments are due. That is a calendar problem rather than an academic one and it is entirely avoidable.

The avoidance is straightforward: ask the coordinator what the requirements and the checkpoints are, in September of DP1, and put them on the same page as the eight academic deadlines. A student who accumulates experiences and writes reflections as they happen spends very little time on it. One who reconstructs a two-year record in DP2 spends a great deal, at the worst possible moment.

University applications belong in the same category of invisible load. For a DP2 student applying overseas, the autumn term carries personal statements, references and institutional deadlines that have nothing to do with the Diploma and compete directly with the Theory of Knowledge essay and the first internal assessment submissions. Families who map those dates alongside the academic ones in September avoid the collision.

The honest point for a tutoring page is that neither of these is something to buy help with. They are things to schedule. A parent who collects every date from the coordinator in September of DP1 and keeps them on one page has done more for the outcome than several hundred dirhams of tuition would, and it is free. That is worth saying even though it does not sell an hour.

Starting from Dubai Silicon Oasis, and the limits we state

  • Send the subject, the level, the calendar block and the school's internal deadlines
  • Free trial lesson, then a written note about what is reachable in this block
  • No home visits in the UAE, no UAE office, no board or regulator approval claimed
  • No IB session or results dates published here; the IB coordinator holds them

Send four things: the subject and level, which block of the calendar you are in, the school's internal deadline list if you have it, and the hour your child is realistically at a desk. If you do not have the deadline list, ask the coordinator for it before you ask us for anything, because it changes what we would recommend more than any other single input.

We match a tutor to the subject and level and run a free trial lesson as live one-to-one video on Gulf Standard Time, at no cost. Afterwards you receive a written note setting out which gaps are reachable in the block you are in and which needed an earlier one. If you are calling in March about a Higher Level fluency problem, the note will say so plainly and propose what the remaining weeks can actually do.

The limits. IB Gram does not run home visits in the UAE; home visits are a service we offer only in India. There is no UAE office, centre or branch and we claim none. We hold no IB, regulator or board approval. We do not supply subject guides, past papers, mark schemes or Extended Essay exemplars as downloads, because reproducing them is not ours to do; we reference them and link to the official source.

And no dates presented as authority. We publish no IB examination or results dates anywhere on this page, because the IB's own site blocks automated checking and an unverified date a family plans around is the worst error a tutoring page can make. UAE schools sit the May examinations. Your child's IB coordinator holds the real windows, and the internal calendar is what should drive your spending anyway.

Where we tutor

Scheduling by community along this corridor

These notes cover the practical scheduling facts for each community, because the Diploma calendar only works if the weekly slot is one the household can actually keep for two years.

Dubai Silicon Oasis

Self-contained, with a large British-curriculum secondary school and several Indian-curriculum schools inside the community. Students attending locally are home early enough for the valuable mid-afternoon slot, which is what makes a two-year weekly arrangement sustainable rather than aspirational.

Cedre Villas and Silicon Gardens

Villa and townhouse stock within Silicon Oasis with short internal journeys. The advantage for Diploma work is scheduling stability: the same slot can hold for a whole term without moving, which matters when the subject builds cumulatively over two years.

Dubai International Academic City

University district immediately south with secondary provision attached. Useful for the revision and content-recall parts of a Diploma plan at the budget band, and not the right source for Paper 3 strategy or internal assessment coaching.

The Villa and Dubailand

Villa communities west of the corridor, more car-dependent with longer internal journeys. A later arrival home pushes the weekly Diploma slot into the evening, which suits essay discussion better than mathematics or physics problem work.

Nad Al Sheba

Two long-established schools on this stretch, including an IB continuum school, so many Diploma students here attend locally. Early arrival home makes this one of the better-placed communities for DP1 structural work in the afternoon window.

Mirdif

Twenty-five to forty minutes north-east depending on the hour, with its own IB continuum school. Students at Mirdif schools are home earlier than those crossing the corridor, which again decides which part of the week is genuinely available.

Al Warqa and Al Rashidiya

Established housing between Silicon Oasis and Festival City with heavy dismissal traffic. Evening slots are the reliable ones here, which is workable for Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay discussion and poor for Higher Level problem solving.

International City

Dense and price-sensitive north of the corridor. Well supplied at the budget end of the market, which fits the content-revision stage of a Diploma plan rather than the components that carry internal assessment marks.

School ecosystem

Silicon Oasis and Academic City

GEMS Wellington Academy Silicon Oasis is one of the larger British-curriculum secondary schools in eastern Dubai, with The Indian Academy and Indian International School nearby and Dubai English Speaking College in Academic City. Internal deadline calendars differ between schools in this cluster, so ask your own coordinator rather than assuming a shared timetable.

Nad Al Sheba, The Villa and Dubailand

GEMS Modern Academy at Nad Al Sheba is one of the longer-established IB schools in the emirate and Repton School Dubai sits on the same stretch, with GEMS FirstPoint School at The Villa. Most Diploma requests along this corridor come from this cluster, and their Extended Essay milestones are the dates that shape DP1 planning.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Ask the coordinator for every date in September of DP1

All six internal assessment deadlines, the Extended Essay milestones, the Theory of Knowledge exhibition and essay dates, the mock window and the CAS checkpoints. One request, one reply, one page. This is free and it does more for the outcome than a term of lessons bought in February.

  2. 02

    Move whatever can move earlier

An Economics commentary, a mathematics exploration topic, an Extended Essay draft over the DP1 summer. None of it needs paid help and all of it dismantles the DP2 congestion in advance. Families who do this describe the second year completely differently from those who do not.

  3. 03

Buy the front of each component, not the back

One session narrowing a research question and one on a complete first draft. A weak question is cheap to fix in September and impossible to fix in February, because by then the data is collected or the reading is done. The hours in between are mostly someone watching a student type.

  4. 04

Sort the mock paper into five categories

Content, timing, command term, answer structure, presentation. Count them. The largest category tells you what the final block should contain, and the exercise needs no subject knowledge. It also identifies the subject that has stabilised and no longer needs its weekly booking.

  5. 05

    Taper the final block

Heavier at ten to four weeks out, lighter at three to one, and the last week on an error tally rather than new material. A student revising at maximum intensity into the papers arrives depleted, and the marginal topic learned is worth less than the alertness lost.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The whole calendar on one page

Six blocks across two years, each with what it can and cannot achieve. The board sets examination windows and the school sets every deadline that governs tuition, and a family holding all of them in September of DP1 has far more options than one meeting them individually.

The February cluster explained in advance

Six subject internal assessments plus the Extended Essay plus the Theory of Knowledge essay is eight substantial pieces of work, and schools inevitably cluster several. That is arithmetic rather than bad luck, and it is predictable a year out, which means it is preventable.

An honest ceiling on the final ten weeks

Technique, command terms, timing and uncertainty procedures are reachable. Algebraic fluency and organic mechanistic reasoning are not, at any rate. Naming the ceiling is what makes the block succeed, and plans that hide it produce the sense of failure instead.

Front-loaded coursework support

One session narrowing a research question and one on a complete draft, with nothing in between. Three or four hours across a component rather than twenty. A provider proposing twenty is selling something other than teaching, and you should ask what.

A written boundary on assessed work

Question discussion, criteria explanation, a comparable model on a different topic, and feedback on your child's own draft. No writing, drafting, completing or supplying any part. The work is declared as the student's own and moderated by the IB.

No invented dates and no borrowed authority

We publish no IB session or results dates, because the IB's own site blocks automated checking. We explain what KHDA, ADEK, SPEA and the Ministry of Education each govern and claim approval from none of them, because IB Gram holds none.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai Silicon Oasis: your questions answered

When should a Dubai Silicon Oasis family start IB Diploma tutoring?+

DP1 if the weakness is structural, because that is the only part of the programme with enough runway to turn information into habit. Mathematical fluency, written reasoning that names a mechanism, and reading volume all need months. Technique, command terms and timing can wait until DP2 and still move marks. Most families do the reverse, spending nothing in DP1 and a great deal in the spring of DP2, which is the most expensive distribution available.

Why do so many IB deadlines land in the same fortnight?+

Because six subjects each carry an internal assessment, and the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge essay add two more, giving eight substantial pieces of work placed by the school inside the board's windows. Clustering is arithmetic rather than misfortune, and it is predictable a year in advance. The fix is to collect all eight dates in September of DP1 and move earlier whatever can move, which costs nothing but knowing the dates.

What should we do with the DP1 summer holiday?+

Get a first Extended Essay draft written, and finish one internal assessment. It is the most under-used stretch in the entire Diploma: internal assessments have been introduced, a supervisor is allocated, and nothing is due. A student who arrives at DP2 with an Extended Essay draft in hand has dismantled half the congested fortnight before it starts. Families who use that summer describe the second year in completely different terms from those who do not.

How much can tutoring achieve in the ten weeks before the May exams?+

Technique reliably: command-term reading, extended-response structure, timing, question selection and working layout, plus consolidation of content already met. Uncertainty treatment in the sciences is also genuinely closable late because the procedures are finite. What ten weeks cannot do is build algebraic fluency or organic mechanistic reasoning, both of which are habits formed over months. A good plan names which of your gaps sit on which side of that line.

Is there an IB tutor near Silicon Oasis who understands the internal deadlines?+

The question to ask is whether a prospective tutor requests the school's internal deadline list in the first conversation. Someone who has worked with Diploma students in Dubai asks for it unprompted, because the internal calendar governs everything. Someone who starts teaching the current topic without asking has told you how they work. Local supply is thin in any case: IB enrolment was 7 per cent of Dubai's private market in 2024-25, and Higher Level specialists are thinner still.

Do your tutors come to homes in Silicon Oasis or Nad Al Sheba?+

No. IB Gram does not run home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service exists only in India. For calendar-driven Diploma work the online format has a concrete advantage: when an internal deadline moves or a mock week shifts, the session can be rescheduled in a message. Along this corridor, where journeys run twenty-five to forty minutes in the late afternoon, a visiting arrangement cannot absorb that kind of change nearly as easily.

At what point in DP1 should a Silicon Oasis student narrow their EE question?+

In DP1, before serious reading begins. The commonest failure is a question too broad, chosen because it sounded serious, and not narrowed until a supervisor sees a draft, by which point the reading has been done against the wrong question and much of it cannot be reused. Narrowing takes one conversation and is the highest-value hour available anywhere in the Diploma core. The process record should also be kept as the work proceeds, not reconstructed later.

Why do students underestimate Theory of Knowledge?+

Because it has no content to revise, so it does not feel like a subject with work attached. What it has is a way of arguing, built through practice rather than preparation. The prescribed-title essay is written against a title released by the board, so the specific question cannot be prepared, which is exactly why the general skill must be. Two or three practice responses in DP1 remove most of the DP2 difficulty, and the essay deadline usually sits in the congested fortnight.

How should we use my child's Diploma mock results?+

Sort every lost mark into five categories: did not know the content, ran out of time, misread the command term, knew it and wrote an answer that did not earn the marks, or lost it to presentation and working. Count the five. Nearly every student is heavily skewed, and the largest category dictates the final block. It takes about an hour, needs no subject expertise, and is more useful than any paid assessment.

Can a tutor help with my child's Internal Assessment under deadline pressure?+

With the thinking and with feedback, yes; with the writing, never, and no deadline changes that. A tutor may press on a research question, explain each lettered criterion, model a comparable example on a different topic, read a draft your child has written and say where it falls short, and teach referencing. A tutor may not write, draft, complete or supply any part of it. The work is declared as the student's own and moderated by the IB.

Does Creativity, Activity, Service really take up study time?+

It does when it is reconstructed rather than recorded. CAS runs across both years with its own requirements and reflective record, and because it is not graded like a subject students leave it until a checkpoint appears, usually in the fortnight when internal assessments are due. Ask the coordinator for the requirements and checkpoints in September of DP1 and put them on the same page as the academic deadlines. Recorded as it happens, it costs very little time.

Do university applications clash with the Diploma calendar?+

For DP2 students applying overseas, yes, and the clash is in the autumn term. Personal statements, references and institutional deadlines compete directly with the Theory of Knowledge essay and the first internal assessment submissions, and none of it appears on the academic calendar the school hands out. Mapping application dates alongside the eight academic deadlines in September avoids the collision, and it is a scheduling exercise rather than something to buy help with.

Which Diploma subjects are hardest to find a specialist for near Academic City?+

Chemistry at Higher Level first, then Physics at Higher Level, then Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, with Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge process coaching close behind. The reason is the same in each case: a small Diploma teaching pool divided by subject and by level, then reduced again by who is free in the late-afternoon window. Economics, Business Management, humanities and languages are noticeably better served.

Why do you not publish IB exam dates on this page?+

Because the IB's own site blocks automated checking, so no session or results date in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself, and an unverified date that a family plans around is the worst error a tutoring page can make. UAE schools sit the May examinations. Your child's IB coordinator holds the real windows and the internal deadlines, and it is the internal calendar that should drive your spending in any case.

What should the first month of a Diploma plan actually produce?+

A single page carrying every internal deadline, which most families do not have and which changes decisions more than any lesson. A written note saying which gaps are reachable in the block you are currently in and which needed an earlier one. And one measurable technique change, most often in extended-response structure or in timing. No grade prediction, because nobody can honestly give one this early or at all.

Get the dates, then buy the hours

The Diploma punishes families who meet its deadlines one at a time and rewards those who see all eight at once. So before you ask any provider for anything, ask your child's IB coordinator for every internal deadline, the Extended Essay milestones, the Theory of Knowledge dates, the mock window and the CAS checkpoints, and keep them on one page. Then send us the subject, the level and the block you are in. The free trial lesson costs nothing, runs as live one-to-one video on Gulf Standard Time, and the note that follows will say what these particular weeks can do.
