IGCSE Science Tutor in Dubai Silicon Oasis

An IGCSE science tutor in Dubai Silicon Oasis is usually asked to cover three subjects with the time available for one. Biology, chemistry and physics each need different work and they compete for the same evenings, which is why most science plans quietly become a chemistry plan by week four. This page sets out a rotation that holds all three, anchored to the mock date, and delivers the lessons as live one-to-one video on Gulf Standard Time.

  • A rotation that keeps all three sciences in a single term plan
  • Matched to the actual entry: separate, Coordinated or Combined
  • Free trial lesson before any booking is confirmed
  • Live one-to-one video on Gulf Standard Time, no travel in the rate

IB & IGCSE in Dubai Silicon Oasis

Three sciences, one set of evenings

The arithmetic defeats most families before the teaching starts. A Year 11 student sitting three separate sciences has three sets of papers, and a student on a coordinated or combined award has content from all three compressed into one grade. Either way, the week contains perhaps two usable tuition evenings and a weekend morning, and three subjects do not fit into two evenings without a rule for deciding what gets dropped.

What happens in practice is that the rule is made by accident. Whichever subject had the worst recent test gets the attention, then the next worst, and by week four the plan has become a chemistry plan because chemistry produced the most alarming mark in February. The other two drift, nobody notices until the mock, and then the whole process repeats with a different subject in the leading position.

A rotation fixes this. Two subjects in any given fortnight, the third held in reserve with supervised self-study against the school's past papers, and a planned switch. The reason it works is that the three sciences fail in different ways and therefore need different quantities of attention. Chemistry's weaknesses are mostly procedural and close quickly. Physics divides into procedures that close and reasoning that does not. Biology is volume and precision, and it needs steady low-intensity work rather than bursts.

There is one preliminary that cannot be skipped. Establish whether your child sits three separate sciences, a Cambridge Coordinated Science entry at 0653, a Combined entry at 0654, or Pearson separate sciences at 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1. These are structurally different qualifications with different grade consequences, and a rotation built for the wrong one wastes the term politely. One message to the school, answered subject by subject, settles it.

IB Gram does not run home visits in Dubai; home visits are a service we offer only in India. Across Silicon Oasis, Cedre Villas, Academic City and the surrounding communities, lessons are live one-to-one video on Gulf Standard Time. For a rotation that matters practically: the subject in a given week can switch without renegotiating a visit, and a session can move when a mock week or a practical assessment shifts the household's timetable.

What follows is the rotation itself, the term-by-term shape, how the three sciences differ in repair speed, how practical assessment works from a UAE centre, and when the November series becomes the sensible route. Use it to decide which subject gets this fortnight, which is the decision nobody makes deliberately.

One more thing worth saying before the detail. A rotation is not a way of buying more hours; it is a way of making the same hours land somewhere useful. Families who adopt one often spend less across a term than those who respond to each alarming mark in turn, because the expensive teaching hours go only to the subject currently being taught while the other two are kept warm cheaply. The gain comes from the allocation rather than from the quantity.

At a glance

  • Three sciences and two usable evenings means a rule is needed, not more willpower
  • Chemistry closes fastest, physics divides, biology needs steady low-intensity work
  • Establish the entry shape first: separate, Coordinated 0653, Combined 0654, or Pearson codes
  • Two subjects per fortnight, with the third on supervised self-study and a planned switch
  • Anchor the rotation to the mock date rather than to the examination
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The science years sit inside a longer sequence, and the best place to spend is sometimes outside them. These are the stages that matter for a rotation plan.

KS3Ages 11-14

Key Stage 3 science, Years 7 to 9

Integrated science with no external examination, so no deadline competes for attention. Scientific vocabulary, the habit of writing an explanation rather than a description, and enough mathematical fluency to rearrange a formula and handle standard form are all built here or met again later under pressure.

For a Silicon Oasis family this is where the shared gap underneath all three sciences is cheapest to fix. A term in Year 9 aimed at formula rearrangement and units at the budget band removes the deficiency that would otherwise appear as separate physics and chemistry weaknesses two years later.

IGCSEAges 14-16

IGCSE sciences, Years 10 and 11

Either three separate sciences with their own papers and grades, or a Coordinated award at Cambridge 0653 graded as one subject across all three, or a Combined award at 0654 covering all three more narrowly. Cambridge splits separate sciences into Core and Extended routes with a grade ceiling on the lower one.

The rotation problem lives here. Three subjects, two evenings, and a mock window that produces evidence for all three at once. Families who write the rotation down before the term starts keep all three moving; families who respond to the most recent test lose two of them without noticing.

POST-16Ages 16-19

A Level or IB Diploma sciences

Sixth-form science courses set specific IGCSE grade requirements, and a Coordinated or Combined award is sometimes treated differently from separate sciences for entry purposes. Schools vary in how they handle that, so ask directly what the intended route needs from your child's entry shape.

The consequence of a science grade lands here, and it lands unevenly. A student short in one of three separate sciences has a narrower problem than one short on a single coordinated grade, because the coordinated grade carries all three subjects at once. That difference should shape which subject gets priority in the rotation.

MoEAll year groups

Equivalency and mandatory UAE subjects

Ministry of Education equivalency for the British track requires five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at a grade no lower than E or grade 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic education, plus one Advanced Level subject at no less than grade E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade.

A Coordinated or Combined science award counts differently from three separate sciences towards a subject total, so check rather than assume. Verify on moe.gov.ae or with the emirate's attestation authority; IB Gram does not perform equivalency and cannot influence its outcome.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

This grid sorts the three sciences by how they fail and how quickly each weakness closes, which is what a rotation has to be built on. The differences between them are larger than the subject labels suggest.

Chemistry calculations

Cambridge 0620 · Pearson 4CH1

Moles, concentration, percentage yield and empirical formulae. Finite procedures that close in about four sessions, which makes chemistry the fastest-moving of the three sciences and therefore the natural first subject in a rotation.

Chemistry qualitative analysis

Cambridge 0620 mainly

The tests and observations for ions and gases, which is pure drillable content that almost nobody is made to learn systematically. Two sessions and reliable marks follow, and it is the clearest single example of unclaimed marks in the whole science set.

Physics calculations and units

Cambridge 0625 · Pearson 4PH1

Multi-step calculations where units are dropped or answers left in the wrong power of ten. A standard working layout fixes it in about one session and the benefit applies across both physics papers and into chemistry calculations too.

Physics six-mark explanations

Cambridge 0625 · Pearson 4PH1

Questions wanting a causal chain that names a mechanism, where students write three restatements of the first sentence instead. A habit rather than a fact, so it needs a term of marked practice and does not close in a fortnight.

Biology written precision

Cambridge 0610 · Pearson 4BI1

Naming the structure, the process and the consequence. Biology mark schemes award nothing for general sense, and students leave the examination believing they answered. Months of marked practice rather than weeks, so biology belongs in the rotation early and steadily.

Biology content volume

Cambridge 0610 · Pearson 4BI1

Cells, transport, respiration, nutrition, coordination, inheritance and ecology. Too much to compress, which is why biology punishes a late start more than chemistry does and rewards low-intensity weekly contact across a whole term.

Coordinated and Combined Science

Cambridge 0653 and 0654

All three sciences in one or two grades. The rotation problem is worst here, because a gap may sit in whichever subject the tutor knows least and the content is compressed. Ask whether a prospective tutor has taught the coordinated syllabus itself, not the three subjects separately.

Practical reasoning in writing

Alternative-to-practical and equivalents

Apparatus choice, reading scales to the right precision, systematic versus random error, and specific improvements. Cambridge offers a written alternative-to-practical paper on several syllabuses, and this reasoning is assessed on the theory papers too, so it serves more than one component.

Mathematics inside science

All three sciences

Rearranging formulae, standard form, percentages, ratios and unit conversion. The shared gap. A student weak here appears weak in physics and chemistry simultaneously, so a single block often lifts two subjects and should usually be the rotation's first move.

Command words across the sciences

All entries

State, describe, explain, suggest, calculate and compare demand different amounts in all three subjects. One session with past papers from each science improves the whole set at once, which makes it the highest-leverage hour in a three-subject plan.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three shapes that make a rotation work. All run as live one-to-one or small-group video lessons on Gulf Standard Time, so the subject in a given week can switch without renegotiating anything.

The shared-gap block, first

Four to six sessions on the things that cost marks in all three sciences at once: command words, formula rearrangement, unit handling and standard form, and the layout that lets method marks be awarded. One booking that lifts the whole set, and the right opening move in almost every three-subject plan.

  • Improves biology, chemistry and physics from one block
  • Past papers from all three used as the material
  • Defined end point, so the cost is bounded
  • Frees the rotation to be about content rather than technique

The two-subject rotation

Two fixed weekday evenings, each carrying one subject for a fortnight, then a planned switch. The third subject sits on supervised self-study against the school's past papers during that fortnight, so it is being kept warm rather than abandoned. Written down in advance, which is the whole point.

  • Two subjects taught, one kept warm, switched on a plan
  • Chemistry usually first because it closes fastest
  • Biology held steady throughout rather than in bursts
  • Reviewed and re-ordered at the mock window

The weekend full paper

One longer weekend morning session carrying a complete past paper in whichever subject the rotation is not currently teaching. No school-run constraint, no competing homework, and it produces the evidence that decides the next switch. This is the element families drop first and should keep.

  • A full paper under timing, then marked and reworked
  • Covers the subject the weekday evenings are not touching
  • Generates the error tally that drives the next rotation
  • Suits households in The Villa or Al Khawaneej with long routes

01

Establish the entry shape before building anything

A rotation built for the wrong qualification is a well-organised waste. Ask the school, in writing, for the board and the code for each science, plus the tier where Cambridge applies. The reply will say something like Cambridge 0620 Extended and 0625 Extended, or 0653 Coordinated Science, or Pearson 4BI1 and 4CH1. Those are different situations needing different rotations.

Three separate sciences gives three grades, which means a weakness can be isolated and the rotation can deprioritise the two subjects that are fine. Coordinated Science at 0653 is awarded as a single grade across all three subjects, so a weak area drags one grade rather than one of three and the rotation has to keep all three in play. Combined Science at 0654 is narrower again. Pearson separate sciences are single-tier with their own paper structures.

The tier question applies to Cambridge and has a hard consequence. The Core route does not reach the top grades, because the papers sat do not contain the marks needed to cross those boundaries. If your child is aiming at A Level or IB Diploma sciences, check whether the sixth-form requirement sits above the current ceiling, and check it in Year 10 while the entry is still reviewable with the school.

Ask subject by subject rather than once. Many Dubai schools enter biology with one board and physics with another, for staffing or historical reasons, and an answer about the school as a whole is not an answer about your child's three sciences. Quote the codes when requesting a tutor and ask the tutor to repeat them back with the paper structures attached.

02

The rotation, fortnight by fortnight

Start with the shared-gap block rather than with a subject. Four to six sessions on command words, formula rearrangement, unit handling and working layout, using past papers from all three sciences as the material. This is the only purchase in a three-subject plan that improves everything at once, and running it first means the rotation that follows is about content rather than about technique.

Then rotate in fortnights. Chemistry first, because its weaknesses are the most procedural and therefore close fastest: moles calculations and the qualitative analysis tables produce visible movement inside four sessions, and finishing a subject early frees capacity. Physics second, aimed at the procedural half of its problems, which is units, working layout and the specific topics the marked papers identified. Biology runs underneath throughout rather than in a slot of its own.

That last point is the one most families get wrong. Biology is volume and precision, and both respond to steady low-intensity contact rather than to a concentrated fortnight. Thirty minutes of marked written practice every week across a term produces more than six hours compressed into two weeks, because the precision habit forms by repetition. So biology occupies the weekend session and the self-study time rather than a weekday rotation slot.

Every switch should be driven by evidence rather than by the calendar. The weekend full paper in the non-rotating subject produces an error tally, and the tally decides whether the switch happens on schedule or whether the current subject needs another fortnight. A rotation that switches on a fixed date regardless of evidence is just a timetable; one that switches on evidence is a plan.

The three sciences fail differently, which is why rotation works

Chemistry's characteristic weaknesses are procedural. Moles and concentration calculations are a finite set of steps. The Cambridge qualitative analysis tables are drillable content that students are rarely made to learn systematically. Both close in sessions rather than terms, which is why chemistry is the natural first subject in a rotation: it finishes, and a finished subject frees the slot for the next one.

Physics divides in half. Units, standard form and working layout are procedural and close in a session or two, and they transfer into chemistry calculations at no extra cost. Six-mark written explanations are not procedural: they require a causal chain in which each step names a mechanism, and students who have spent two years writing descriptions need a term of marked practice to change that. So physics gets its procedural half in the rotation and its reasoning half across the whole term.

Biology is neither. It is volume and precision. There is more content than the other two and the mark schemes award nothing for general sense, so an answer that does not name the structure, the process and the consequence scores zero even where the student understands it. Both of those respond to steady repetition rather than to concentrated attention, which is why biology sits underneath the rotation rather than inside it.

Understanding those three profiles is what makes a rotation more than a timetable. It explains why chemistry goes first, why physics appears twice in different forms, and why biology never gets a dedicated fortnight and still improves. Families who grasp this stop treating the three sciences as interchangeable units of difficulty and start treating them as three different jobs.

Anchor the rotation to the mock, not the examination

  • A mock produces marked evidence in all three sciences at once, which a rotation needs
  • Run one plan up to the mock and rebuild the second entirely from its tallies
  • Sort each paper into four causes: did not know, ran out of time, misread, did not earn
  • Mock results feed the predicted grades that sixth-form applications rest on

Schools along this corridor run mocks at different points, and the mock date rather than the series date is the right anchor for a three-subject plan. A mock produces marked evidence in all three sciences simultaneously, which is exactly what a rotation needs and exactly what no amount of parental impression can supply. A plan that aims past the mock throws away the only full-length diagnostic the student gets in all three subjects at once.

So structure it as two plans. The first runs up to the mock and aims at arriving ready for it, which is a different goal from treating the mock as a rehearsal. The second is rebuilt entirely from the three error tallies the mock produces. Families who structure it this way describe the spring term as calmer, because the second rotation is evidence-led rather than driven by whichever subject most recently produced an alarming mark.

Reading the mocks takes about an hour for all three and needs no scientific knowledge. For each paper, sort every lost mark into four causes: did not know it, ran out of time, misread what was asked, or knew it and wrote an answer that did not earn the marks. Then compare the three tallies. Usually one subject is dominated by a single cause, which tells you which subject needs teaching and which needs only practice.

There is also a predicted-grade reason to care. Sixth-form and foundation applications are generally made on predictions formed partly from mock results, so performing better in the mock improves the options available regardless of what June eventually produces. Almost no family buys science tuition aimed specifically at the mock, and the cost is identical to buying it two terms later.

05

Practical assessment from a UAE centre

This is the question parents ask most about online science tuition and the one competing pages leave unanswered. Cambridge offers a written alternative-to-practical paper on several science syllabuses, and that is the route most candidates sitting from a UAE centre meet. It assesses apparatus selection, reading scales to the correct precision, identifying sources of error, interpreting results and suggesting specific improvements, all in writing and all based on described experiments.

That means practical marks are largely won by reasoning that can be taught without a bench, and taught in all three sciences at once, since the skills are common across them. A student who can explain why a measurement was repeated, distinguish systematic from random error, read a scale correctly and suggest an improvement that is specific rather than generic will score on that paper in biology, chemistry and physics alike. It is therefore an efficient addition to a rotation.

Where a syllabus does require school-assessed practical work, the laboratory is the school's and should be. Your child has apparatus, a teacher who knows it and technicians who maintain it, and a tutor offering to replicate that would be offering something worse than what already exists. What a tutor adds is the thinking either side: anticipating error sources before the experiment and interpreting the results honestly afterwards.

Confirm which route applies to each of your child's three sciences, because schools sometimes differ between subjects. Ask whether each entry includes a practical assessment or an alternative-to-practical paper. The answer takes one line, it determines how much of the rotation should go to practical reasoning, and it is also the question that most quickly reveals whether a prospective tutor knows the syllabus.

Which series, and when November becomes the answer

Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level examinations in a June series and a November series. The February and March series exists but is offered to India only, so no student at a Dubai school sits it, and a rotation built around a February entry deadline has imported another country's calendar. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November.

Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong one. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series and revises them, so take your dates from the school's exams officer or the board's live timetable rather than from any tutoring page.

On results, Pearson's June 2026 International GCSE results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, while November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. Those backward-looking figures are the ones worth knowing, because they describe the shape of the year rather than a date that may be revised.

For a three-science family the November route has a particular use. A student short in one of three separate sciences can resit that one subject in November without disturbing the other two, which is a narrower and cheaper piece of work than a full-year repeat. A student on a coordinated award has a harder decision, because the single grade carries all three subjects. Hold an entry-fee reserve from the start either way, because fees go to the examination centre.

What a rotation costs, and what to buy at which band

  • Published bands, October 2026: budget AED 33-65; qualified AED 150-300; in-home AED 180-500
  • Qualified band for the shared-gap block and the subject being taught
  • Budget band or supervised self-study for the subject being kept warm
  • Bestimate monthly estimates for one weekly hour: AED 240-600, AED 600-1,200, AED 1,000-2,000+

Three subjects does not have to mean three specialist bookings, and the rotation exists partly to prevent that. Published market bands, all read in October 2026: budget online tuition from AED 33 to 52 at Tutopiya and AED 45 to 65 at EdFlik; a qualified online subject tutor at roughly AED 150 to 300, with Unitors advertising IGCSE from AED 150; in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 500 with travel inside the figure. None of these is an IB Gram price.

The rotation allocates bands as well as weeks. The shared-gap block and the subject currently being taught belong at the qualified band, because command words, working layout and the procedural topics need someone who knows the mark scheme. The subject being kept warm belongs at the budget band or in supervised self-study with the school's past papers, because that work is practice rather than teaching.

That allocation is where the saving sits. A family paying the qualified band for three subjects simultaneously across a term is paying for teaching in two subjects that only need practice. The same total hours, distributed by the rotation, cost less and achieve more because the expensive hours land where expertise is actually required. Bestimate's monthly estimates for one weekly hour are AED 240 to 600 budget, AED 600 to 1,200 mid and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for an exam-year specialist.

Our own terms follow the free trial lesson and the mock or paper diagnosis, because a single hourly figure across Year 10 biology recall and Extended physics explanation would be misleading in both directions. What the bands above are for is checking a quote you already hold and deciding, before you speak to anybody, which parts of your rotation genuinely need the more expensive hour.

Starting from Dubai Silicon Oasis, and what we will not claim

  • Send the codes, the entry shape, the mock dates, three marked papers and the available evenings
  • Free trial lesson, then a written rotation with a stated first move
  • No home visits in the UAE, no UAE office, no board or regulator approval claimed
  • No grade predictions; the rotation is judged on the three error tallies

Send five things: the codes and tiers for each science, the entry shape, the school's mock dates, the most recent marked papers in all three subjects, and the two evenings plus weekend morning your household can realistically hold. That last item is what makes a rotation work or fail, and nobody is asked for it. We then match tutors to the codes and run a free trial lesson as live one-to-one video on Gulf Standard Time, at no cost.

Afterwards you receive a written rotation: which subject gets the first fortnight and why, what the shared-gap block will cover, which subject sits on supervised self-study, and when the plan is rebuilt from the mock. For many families the opening move is the shared-gap block rather than any subject at all, because command words and formula rearrangement are costing marks in all three. If that is the finding, we will say so.

Four limits, stated before you build a rotation around us. Nothing arrives as a download: we do not supply syllabus documents, past papers or mark schemes, we reference them and link to the official source, which has the side benefit that the version your child rotates through is the current one rather than a copy of a copy. No approval sits behind the plan either, from a board or a regulator, so nobody here is KHDA approved or Cambridge accredited. There is no UAE office, centre or branch and we claim none, in Dubai Silicon Oasis or anywhere else. And IB Gram does not run home visits in the UAE; home visits are a service we offer only in India. That last limit is why the three-science rotation described above is designed for live video rather than for a tutor driving in from Academic City on three separate evenings a week.

And no grade predictions. What a term-long rotation should produce is three error tallies that have moved, a shared-gap block that no longer appears in any of them, and a student who can say which cause is costing them marks in each subject. Those are checkable. A grade promise is not, and a provider offering one across three subjects has told you a great deal about how it sells.

Where we tutor

Scheduling three sciences by community

A rotation needs two reliable evenings and a weekend morning. These notes cover what each community realistically offers.

Dubai Silicon Oasis

Self-contained, with a large British-curriculum secondary school and several Indian-curriculum schools inside the community. Students attending locally are home early enough to make two weekday evenings plus a weekend morning genuinely achievable, which is what a three-subject rotation requires.

Cedre Villas and Silicon Gardens

Villa and townhouse stock within Silicon Oasis with short internal journeys. The advantage is that the rotation's two fixed evenings rarely have to move, and a rotation that keeps being rescheduled collapses back into a single-subject plan.

Dubai International Academic City

University district immediately south. The AED 33 to 65 budget band is well supplied here and is genuinely suited to the supervised self-study element of a rotation, where the third subject is being kept warm rather than taught.

The Villa and Dubailand

Villa communities west of the corridor and more car-dependent, with longer internal journeys. Later arrival home makes the weekend morning more important, which suits a rotation well because the long session can carry a full paper in the third subject.

Nad Al Sheba

Two long-established schools on this stretch, so many students attend locally and are home early. Good conditions for the two-evening part of a rotation, which is where new teaching rather than consolidation belongs.

Al Warqa and Al Rashidiya

Established housing between Silicon Oasis and Festival City with heavy dismissal traffic. Evening slots are dependable here, which works for the consolidation subject in a rotation and less well for the subject currently being taught.

International City

Dense and price-sensitive north of the corridor, well supplied at the budget end. Useful for keeping the third subject warm with marked past-paper practice while the other two are being taught.

Mirdif

Twenty-five to forty minutes north-east depending on the hour, with its own schools. Students attending in Mirdif are home earlier than those crossing the corridor, which determines whether two weekday evenings are realistic or whether the weekend has to carry more.

Confirm the entry shape and every code

Three separate sciences, Cambridge Coordinated 0653, Combined 0654, or Pearson 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1. Ask subject by subject, because many Dubai schools split boards. A coordinated award means all three must stay in the rotation; separate sciences let you deprioritise the two that are fine.

    Buy the shared-gap block first

Command words, formula rearrangement, unit handling and working layout, using past papers from all three sciences. It is the only purchase that improves everything at once, and running it first means the rotation that follows is about content rather than technique.

  3. 03

Write the rotation down before the term starts

Two fixed evenings, one subject each for a fortnight, the third on supervised self-study, and a planned switch. Written down, it holds. Left to instinct, it becomes a single-subject plan by week four aimed at whichever subject produced the most alarming recent mark.

  4. 04

Keep biology underneath rather than in a slot

Biology is volume and precision, and both respond to steady weekly repetition rather than a concentrated fortnight. Thirty minutes of marked written practice every week beats six hours compressed into two weeks, so biology lives in the weekend session and the self-study time.

  5. 05

Rebuild the whole plan from the mock tallies

Sort all three mock papers into four causes each, compare the tallies, and re-order the rotation on the evidence. Usually one subject is dominated by a single cause, which tells you which needs teaching and which needs only practice. This review also identifies the subject to stop paying for.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

A rule for three subjects and two evenings

Without a written rotation a science plan becomes a single-subject plan by week four, aimed at whichever subject produced the worst recent mark. The rotation is the only thing that keeps all three moving, and it costs nothing to write down.

The three sciences treated as three different jobs

Chemistry closes in sessions, physics divides into procedures that close and reasoning that does not, and biology needs steady repetition rather than bursts. Those profiles are why chemistry goes first and biology never gets a dedicated fortnight and still improves.

The shared gap attacked before any subject

Command words, formula rearrangement, units and working layout cost marks in all three sciences at once. One block lifts the whole set, which is cheaper than three subject bookings and almost never what a provider proposes first.

Matched to the entry, not the word science

Coordinated 0653 and Combined 0654 are structurally different from three separate sciences, with different grade consequences and different rotation needs. We ask which before planning, because a rotation built for the wrong shape wastes the term politely.

Practical assessment explained properly

Cambridge offers a written alternative-to-practical paper on several syllabuses, which is the route most UAE candidates meet, and the reasoning it assesses is common to all three sciences. Competing pages leave this unanswered, which is why parents assume online science tuition cannot cover practicals.

Bands allocated, not applied uniformly

Qualified band for the shared-gap block and the subject being taught; budget band or supervised self-study for the subject being kept warm. The same total hours distributed that way cost less and achieve more than three simultaneous specialist bookings.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai Silicon Oasis: your questions answered

How do we cover three IGCSE sciences with only two free evenings?+

With a written rotation rather than more willpower. Two fixed weekday evenings each carry one subject for a fortnight, the third sits on supervised self-study against the school's past papers, and the switch is planned in advance. A weekend morning carries a full paper in whichever subject the evenings are not touching, which produces the evidence for the next switch. Left to instinct, the plan becomes a single-subject plan by week four.

Which science should a Silicon Oasis student start with?+

Chemistry, in most cases, because its characteristic weaknesses are the most procedural and therefore close fastest. Moles and concentration calculations are a finite set of steps, and the Cambridge qualitative analysis tables are drillable content almost nobody is made to learn systematically. Four sessions produces visible movement, and a finished subject frees the slot for the next. Before any of that, though, buy the shared-gap block that lifts all three.

Why does biology never get its own fortnight in the rotation?+

Because biology is volume and precision, and both respond to steady repetition rather than concentrated attention. Thirty minutes of marked written practice every week across a term produces more than six hours compressed into a fortnight, since naming the structure, the process and the consequence is a habit that forms by repetition. So biology lives in the weekend session and the self-study time and improves throughout without occupying a weekday rotation slot.

What is the shared gap across all three IGCSE sciences?+

Command words and mathematics. State, describe, explain, suggest, calculate and compare demand different amounts in every subject, and answering the wrong amount costs marks or time. Separately, rearranging formulae, standard form, percentages and unit conversion appear in every physics paper and most chemistry ones. A student weak there looks weak in two subjects at once, so one four to six session block often lifts the whole set.

Does my child sit three separate sciences or a coordinated award?+

Ask the school in writing, subject by subject, for the board and the code. Cambridge uses 0610 Biology, 0620 Chemistry and 0625 Physics for separate sciences, 0653 for Coordinated Science awarded as one grade and 0654 for Combined. Pearson uses 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1. It matters for the rotation: separate sciences let you deprioritise the two that are fine, while a coordinated grade carries all three and keeps all three in play.

Do tutors come to homes in Cedre Villas for science lessons?+

No. IB Gram does not run home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service exists only in India. For a rotation the online format has a specific advantage: the subject in a given week can switch without renegotiating a visiting arrangement, and a session can move when a mock week or a practical assessment shifts the household timetable. Scale diagrams and graphs are also easier to teach on a shared screen than across a table.

How are practicals assessed if we study science online from Dubai?+

Cambridge offers a written alternative-to-practical paper on several science syllabuses, and that is the route most candidates sitting from a UAE centre meet. It assesses apparatus selection, reading scales to the right precision, identifying error sources, interpreting results and suggesting specific improvements, all in writing. Those skills are common across all three sciences, so one block covers the set. Where school-assessed practical work applies, the school's laboratory does that properly.

When should the rotation be rebuilt?+

At the mock window, entirely and from the evidence. Mocks produce marked papers in all three sciences at once, which is exactly what a rotation needs. Sort each paper into four causes, did not know it, ran out of time, misread what was asked, or knew it and did not earn the marks, then compare the three tallies. Usually one subject is dominated by a single cause, which tells you which needs teaching and which needs only practice.

Can we save money by using cheaper tutors for one of the three sciences?+

Yes, and the rotation is partly designed around that. The shared-gap block and the subject currently being taught belong at the qualified band of roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, because they need somebody who knows the mark scheme. The subject being kept warm is practice rather than teaching, so the budget band of AED 33 to 65, or supervised self-study with the school's past papers, covers it adequately and the saving is real.

If June goes badly, can my child resit just one science?+

If they sit three separate sciences, yes, and it is the narrowest and cheapest fix available: the November series takes that one subject and leaves the other two alone. Pearson's November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026, early enough for most sixth-form conversations. A student on a coordinated award has a harder decision, because the single grade carries all three subjects, so discuss that with the school before committing.

Which series does a Dubai Silicon Oasis science candidate sit?+

Cambridge candidates in the UAE sit the June series or the November series. The February and March series exists but is offered to India only, so no Dubai student sits it, and a plan built on a February entry deadline has imported another country's calendar. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, so take the actual timetable from the exams officer.

Why does my child understand biology and still lose marks?+

Language precision. Biology mark schemes want the structure, the process and the consequence named, and an answer conveying general understanding without those three elements scores nothing. The student leaves the examination believing they answered the question. The repair is marked practice where the tutor reads the answer back and shows which clause earned nothing, repeated until the habit changes, which is why it belongs in steady weekly work rather than a burst.

Can one tutor cover all three sciences for a coordinated entry?+

For a coordinated or combined award that is the right match, because the award is one grade and the requirement is breadth rather than depth in one subject. Ask specifically whether the tutor has taught 0653 or 0654 itself, not the three subjects separately, because the content map differs. For three separate sciences a single tutor across all three is usually weaker than a rotation using different people for the subject currently being taught.

Does a science tutor in Dubai Silicon Oasis need a MoHRE permit?+

Yes. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and u.ae states it is granted free of charge for two years, covering registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Those tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, although no schedule of amounts is published. Since it is free, ask directly.

What should a term-long science rotation actually deliver?+

Three error tallies that have moved, with the shared gap no longer appearing in any of them, and a student who can say which cause is costing marks in each subject. Possibly one subject finished and dropped from the rotation entirely, which is a success rather than a shortfall. No grade predictions, because nobody can honestly offer them, least of all across three subjects at once with a mock still to come.

Write the rotation down before term starts

Three sciences and two evenings is an allocation problem, and allocation problems are solved on paper rather than by effort. So establish the entry shape and every syllabus code, ask the school for the mock dates, gather the most recent marked papers in all three subjects, and tell us which two evenings and which weekend morning your household can hold. The free trial lesson costs nothing, and what comes back is a written rotation with a stated first move, a subject on self-study, and a date for rebuilding the whole thing from the mock.
