IB IGCSE Tutor for Emirates International School Meadows Students in Dubai

Most families who search for an IB IGCSE tutor for Emirates International School Meadows students in Dubai are standing at a fork rather than in a crisis. Year 11 grades are about to decide a Higher Level list, or a mathematics route has to be chosen and nobody has explained the consequences. IB Gram matches one tutor to one student over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, so a Meadows household is not limited to whoever can drive out past Emirates Hills by five.

  • Mathematics route advice that names what each course assesses, not which is easier
  • Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel codes matched to the school's actual subject entries
  • AED bands quoted cheapest first, with the publisher of each figure named
  • Coursework sessions mark the student's own draft and supply no text

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

The fork in the road a Meadows family is usually standing at

Emirates International School Meadows runs an IB continuum with external IGCSE examinations inside it, which gives a student here two credible routes out of Year 11 and a mathematics decision that shapes university options years later. That is why a search for an IB IGCSE tutor for Emirates International School Meadows students in Dubai so often comes from a parent planning rather than panicking. The question is not usually how to rescue a grade. It is which Higher Level list is realistic and what has to be true by August for it to work.

Confirm the detail with the school. Dubai schools revise option blocks, examination boards and entry patterns on their own timetable, and the number of external subjects a cohort sits is a decision the school makes on its own evidence. The head of secondary and the examinations officer are the only reliable source for your child's actual entries. What this page can do is set out what each route demands once the decision exists, and where tuition changes an outcome rather than just filling an evening.

The mathematics decision deserves naming first because it is the one most often made for the wrong reason. Analysis and Approaches is the algebra-and-proof route; Applications and Interpretation is the data-and-modelling route. Students pick Applications because Analysis looks hard, and then discover a degree they want specifies Analysis. Students pick Analysis Higher Level because it sounds stronger, and then lose points across two years on a course that does not suit how they think. Both mistakes are expensive and both are avoidable with one honest conversation in Year 11.

The second thing a Meadows household underestimates is the coursework load. Each Diploma subject carries an internally assessed component worth roughly a fifth of the grade, marked by the teacher against published criteria and moderated externally, and Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay sit on top. Those deadlines are school-set and they land earlier than any examination timetable. A family that starts tuition when the examination dates appear has already passed the window where a fifth of each grade was still movable.

IB Gram delivers this as one-to-one tuition over live video at a Gulf Standard Time hour. In-home visiting is a service we run only in India, not in the UAE, and this page states that plainly rather than leaving it to be discovered. Every figure below names whoever published it. No IB examination or results date appears anywhere on this page, because the IB's own site blocks automated checking and an unverified date on a planning page is worse than no date at all. Your child's Diploma coordinator works from the official timetable and is the right person to ask for those dates.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three systems sit inside this school and a Year 11 student may be in two at once. Here is what each one assesses and what that means for a Dubai family choosing where to spend tuition money.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

International GCSE, Years 10 and 11

Two linear years ending in external papers, graded A* to G by Cambridge or 9 to 1 by Pearson. Cambridge syllabuses tier into Core and Extended in most subjects, with Core candidates capped at grade C. Pearson Mathematics A tiers into Foundation and Higher while the Pearson international sciences run on a single tier across the full grade range.

In the UAE these grades do double service. They are the qualification the Ministry of Education equivalency route counts on the British track, where five accredited subjects at no less than grade E or grade 3 are required and Arabic and Islamic Education sit outside that count. They are also the evidence a Diploma coordinator uses when deciding whether a Higher Level request is realistic.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects at three Higher and three Standard Levels, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Every subject carries an internally assessed component of roughly a fifth of the grade, teacher-marked against named criteria and externally moderated. The total runs to 45 points, three of which come from Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay together.

The Diploma is a minority route in Dubai, at roughly seven per cent of private-school enrolment against 37 per cent on UK curricula in the 2024-25 figures. Small cohorts mean a school can be strong overall and still have one Higher Level subject taught to a handful of students, which is a supply constraint rather than a quality judgement and the usual reason a Meadows parent cannot find a local specialist.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups assessed against four published criteria each, marked out of eight and converted to a 1 to 7 grade by published boundaries. The emphasis sits on inquiry, communication and reflection, with the Personal Project in the final year. There is no tiering and no linear external paper in the Cambridge sense.

Families arriving in Dubai from a test-driven system find this the hardest adjustment, and the fix is linguistic rather than academic. A student has to learn to read the criterion descriptors and write the reasoning down. A Year 9 who produces the right answer with no working can score below a weaker classmate who shows their thinking, which feels unfair until the descriptors are read.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the subjects Meadows and Springs families ask about most. Each line names the component that actually decides the grade, because that is where an hour of tuition pays for itself.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The algebra, calculus and proof route. Higher Level runs three papers at 30, 30 and 20 per cent with the exploration at 20. Paper 3 is the component Dubai students under-prepare, because its first marks depend on reading an unfamiliar investigation correctly rather than on recall.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

The data, statistics and modelling route, with graph theory and matrices added at Higher Level. It is not an easier course; it is a different one, and a student who finds algebra hard will still find Higher Level Applications demanding because the modelling work assumes algebraic confidence.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580

Core and Extended

Extended candidates sit Papers 2 and 4 at half the grade each. The marks that go missing are in composite and inverse function notation, histograms with unequal class widths, and column vectors. Core caps the grade at C, so the tier decision taken in Year 10 is a ceiling decision.

Physics

IGCSE 0625 or 4PH1, IB HL and SL

Cambridge 0625 Extended runs a multiple-choice paper at 30 per cent, theory at 50 and a practical or alternative-to-practical paper at 20. That practical paper is decided by graph scales, significant figures and conclusion wording, which content revision does not touch.

Chemistry

IGCSE 0620 or 4CH1, IB HL and SL

Moles arithmetic is the biggest single loss at IGCSE Extended and becomes the quantitative spine of Diploma energetics and equilibrium. Higher Level organic mechanisms are marked on curly-arrow placement and intermediate charge, so a correct product with a wrong mechanism only scores partially.

Biology

IGCSE 0610 or 4BI1, IB HL and SL

The content is approachable and the marking is exacting. IGCSE Extended rewards precise command-term response, so explaining when asked to describe loses marks on secure knowledge. The Diploma investigation carries a fifth of the grade and is judged on research design and evaluation.

Economics

IB HL and SL

Three commentaries on published articles at 800 words each form the internal assessment, and the diagram carries the marks rather than the prose around it. Higher Level Paper 3 is quantitative and templated, which makes it the fastest paper on which to add points with a tutor.

Business Management

IB HL and SL

The Higher Level research project fails most often on a question that cannot be answered with evidence a sixteen-year-old in Dubai can actually obtain. Fixing the research question in the first fortnight is worth more than weeks of later redrafting, and it is entirely legitimate coaching.

Computer Science

IGCSE 0478, IB HL and SL

IGCSE 0478 splits into computer systems and algorithms, and the algorithm paper is marked on pseudocode discipline rather than on whether code would compile. The Diploma Higher Level extension covers object-oriented programming and abstract data structures, where hand-tracing recursion is the skill that opens the paper.

Arabic

First language and additional language streams

Mandatory in every Dubai private school and streamed by first-language status, with the regulator requiring separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students rather than combined ones. Useful support is reading fluency and script confidence, delivered in short frequent sessions rather than long ones.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats cover almost every request from a Meadows household. All are one-to-one over live video, with the student sharing their own book or draft on screen.

Weekly slot through the school year

One hour held for the same student each week, following the school's unit sequence rather than a parallel syllabus. Used most in Year 10 and Year 12, where the aim is to stop a gap forming rather than close one. Each session ends with a written note of what was taught and what to practise.

  • Same tutor, same hour, across the term
  • Work taken from the school's current unit
  • A written note every week
  • Paused for mock weeks and travel on request

Route-choice and planning sessions

A short series aimed at a decision rather than a grade: Analysis or Applications, Higher or Standard Level, which three subjects at Higher Level. The tutor works through what each course actually assesses and what the student's current work suggests, so the family decides on evidence instead of on reputation.

  • Based on the student's own marked work
  • Course content compared, not ranked by difficulty
  • University prerequisites checked against the prospectus
  • A written summary the family can revisit

Short block before an external series

A compressed run built on timed papers rather than content revision. The student sits a paper cold, the tutor marks it live, names the two or three repeating error types and drills those. Suits a student whose knowledge is sound and whose paper discipline is not.

  • Paper sat cold, marked during the hour
  • An error log kept across the block
  • Command-term drilling in the mark scheme's language
  • Two or three sessions a week for a defined period

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

Where a Meadows student's Year 11 grades actually go next

A set of IGCSE grades is read by three different audiences and a family that knows which one matters to them makes better decisions. The Diploma coordinator reads them as a prediction of whether Higher Level requests are realistic. A sixth form reads them as entry criteria. The Ministry of Education equivalency route reads them as a count of five accredited subjects at no less than grade E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic Education excluded from that five.

Those three readings pull in different directions. The equivalency count rewards breadth: five subjects passed at a modest threshold. A Higher Level recommendation rewards depth in a narrow set: a strong grade in the specific subject requested, and in mathematics, Extended-tier algebra rather than a general pass. A student optimising for one can quietly undermine the other, and the most common version of that is dropping a science to protect an overall average and then wanting Higher Level chemistry.

The practical move is to write down the destination before Year 11 starts. If the Diploma is the plan, the question becomes which three Higher Level subjects and what each one assumes from IGCSE. If a sixth form outside the school is the plan, the question becomes which grades that institution publishes as its threshold. If the family may relocate within the UAE, the equivalency count becomes the thing to protect. All three are answerable in an afternoon with the school, and none of them is answerable from a tutoring page.

Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation: how to choose honestly

This is the decision with the longest tail and the worst available advice. Analysis and Approaches is built on algebra, calculus and proof. Applications and Interpretation is built on data, statistics and modelling, with matrices and graph theory at Higher Level. Neither is a reduced version of the other. The mistake families make is treating Applications as the easier course, which it is not: Higher Level Applications still assumes algebraic confidence and its modelling work is unforgiving of a student who cannot manipulate an expression.

The decision should be driven by two things. The first is how the student thinks, which is visible in their marked work rather than in their opinion of themselves: a student who enjoys a proof and dislikes an open-ended investigation belongs in Analysis, and the reverse belongs in Applications. The second is prerequisites. Engineering, physics, mathematics and many computer science programmes commonly specify Analysis and Approaches, often at Higher Level. Business, design, the social sciences and most life-science routes usually accept either.

Check the prerequisite on the programme's own published requirements rather than on anything written about it elsewhere, including here. University requirements change between admissions cycles, they differ between faculties inside the same institution, and they differ between an engineering degree in the UAE and the same degree abroad. A Meadows family with a shortlist can resolve this in an hour of reading. A family that assumes will discover the problem in Year 13, when nothing can be changed.

03

Where Diploma science marks actually go missing

  • Research design on the investigation, a skill IGCSE never assessed
  • Moles arithmetic and algebraic rearrangement as the real content barrier
  • Command-term precision on every written paper
  • Evaluation marks, which reward naming a method's limits honestly

Science grades at Diploma level are lost in three predictable places, and none of them is content coverage. The first is the investigation, worth about a fifth of the subject grade and marked on research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. Students who have come through IGCSE have never been assessed on research design, because at IGCSE the method is given. Asked to produce their own, they build something that generates data but cannot answer the question they set, and no amount of later analysis repairs that.

The second is quantitative handling. Diploma chemistry runs on moles arithmetic the way a building runs on its foundations, and a student who passed IGCSE by pattern-matching calculations will stall in the first energetics unit. Physics is the same story with algebraic rearrangement. These are fixable in a handful of sessions, but only if the diagnosis is right; a student who says they find chemistry hard is usually saying they find the arithmetic inside chemistry hard.

The third is the command-term discipline that transfers straight from IGCSE and then changes slightly. Diploma papers use a published set of command terms with specific demands, and the difference between outline, describe and explain is worth marks on every paper. A student who writes a thorough explanation in answer to state has produced a correct response that earns nothing extra and spent four minutes doing it. Tutors on this page keep a running error log so these patterns surface rather than being rediscovered each term.

04

What Dubai tutoring costs, starting from the cheapest option available

Build the budget upward rather than downward, because the cheapest option in this market is genuinely useful for some problems. Online platforms using university-student tutors publish the lowest rates: Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65. For a Year 9 student who needs someone to sit with them through homework and explain a topic again, that band is appropriate and anything more is overspending.

Step up when the problem becomes a mark scheme rather than a concept. Qualified online subject tutors sit around AED 150 to 300, and Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB tuition from AED 200, which is one of very few published numbers in this market. Three of the six strongest pages in this search publish no price at all, and two of the three that do quote in US dollars, which is not a currency a Dubai family transacts in.

Specialists run AED 200 to 450 and beyond, with TutorChase at AED 270 and Bestimate's Dubai table putting specialists at AED 200 to 450 and upward. The premium tier starts around AED 500, with BartyED at AED 650. In-home visiting is a separate band at AED 180 to 500 because travel sits inside the rate. None of these is IB Gram's price and this page publishes no price list; what it offers is the shape of the market so a family can buy the band the problem actually needs.

Five regulators, seven emirates: what changes if your family moves

Expatriate families in Dubai move within the UAE more often than they expect to, and private-school regulation is not federal in practice. According to u.ae, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in Dubai. In Abu Dhabi the Department of Education and Knowledge supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. Sharjah's Private Education Authority regulates private education there, Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge does the same, and the Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah.

The practical differences are larger than the names suggest. In Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah the authority approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, so curriculum approval rather than inspection alone sits with the emirate. Abu Dhabi's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff, as reported in the press, prohibit teachers from giving paid private tuition to students enrolled at their own school, and the national tutoring permit carries a code of conduct that also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school.

For tuition planning, the useful consequence is that the only element that genuinely travels with the family is the qualification. A Cambridge or Pearson IGCSE entry and an IB Diploma registration are board-level, not emirate-level, so a move does not restart the course. What changes is the inspection regime, the fee-approval route and the school supply. A tutor working over live video continues unaffected, which is one of the few genuinely practical arguments for online delivery in a mobile population.

Ministry of Education equivalency: what an IGCSE student has to be able to show

Equivalency is the process by which a foreign school certificate is recognised in the UAE, and it matters for a student applying to a UAE institution or needing the certificate recognised locally. For the British track the published requirement is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus either one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade.

Two details are routinely got wrong. Arabic and Islamic Education are not included among the five required subjects, so a student who counts them is a subject short. And at least one site ranking for queries in this market states that UAE candidates must take six IGCSE subjects, which does not match the published rule. For the American track the published requirement includes English proficiency at a score of 5 in the academic IELTS, 61 in the TOEFL internet-based test, or 450 in the SAT reading and writing section, with mathematics requiring at least 450 in the SAT mathematics test.

No International Baccalaureate points threshold appears on this page, and that absence is deliberate. The source that sets out the British and American tracks does not state one, and publishing an unverified points figure on a page a parent plans around would be worse than leaving a gap. Check the current requirement on the Ministry's own channel or with the emirate's attestation authority. IB Gram neither performs nor guarantees any part of equivalency or attestation, and no tuition is required for any of it.

What the drive out to The Meadows costs, and why the evening slot wins

An in-home tutor is a real product with real advantages. Someone in the room sees an exercise book without being shown it, reads hesitation a video call flattens, and removes any question of a student quietly doing something else. For a younger child or one who needs presence to stay on task, that is worth paying for. The costs are travel and supply, and in a community like The Meadows both are larger than they look.

Travel first. The published in-home band runs AED 180 to 500 an hour against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online subject tutor, and the difference is time the tutor cannot sell twice. A trip out past Emirates Hills at half past four and back at seven is most of an afternoon for one hour of teaching, which is why evening in-home bookings in these communities sit at the upper end of the band rather than the lower.

Supply is the bigger constraint. A tutor who must physically reach The Meadows by five can serve three or four students a day, so the choice available to your child narrows to whoever is both qualified and nearby. For Higher Level sciences and Analysis and Approaches Paper 3 in Dubai, that is a short list and it frequently does not include the subject you need. IB Gram does not run home visits in Dubai or anywhere in the UAE; in-home visiting is an India-only service, and the UAE offer is one-to-one live video at the hour you choose.

What a tutor may and may not touch on internally assessed work

Some sites competing for this search sell completed internal assessments outright. That is not tutoring and the consequence falls on the student, who can lose the whole diploma rather than one subject grade. A page aimed at Meadows parents should say so directly, because the offer is easy to find and the risk is not advertised alongside it. Submitting work the student did not produce is academic misconduct under IB rules, and there is no version of it that is safe.

The legitimate boundary is specific and genuinely valuable. A tutor may teach the subject content, explain what each named criterion rewards, read a draft the student has written and mark it against the descriptors, question an argument until the student can defend it, and teach the referencing convention the subject requires. A tutor may not supply sentences, rewrite a draft into its submitted form, choose the research question outright, or process the data on the student's behalf.

In practice the earliest session is the most valuable, before any writing starts. A mathematics exploration built on a question that cannot generate enough mathematics scores poorly however well it reads, and an Extended Essay on a question with no accessible sources stalls at the research stage. Half an hour stress-testing the question saves weeks, and the student leaves having made the decision themselves. Sessions on this page are documented with a note of what was taught and what the student changed afterwards, in their own words, so a family asked about support can answer honestly.

Areas we cover across Dubai

The school sits among the villa communities along the inland side of Sheikh Zayed Road. Distances here are short on a map and long at four in the afternoon, which is the practical case for a fixed evening slot.

The Meadows

The school's own community. Journeys are measured in minutes until the interchange backs up, at which point a four o'clock booking becomes a quarter past four and a tired student.

The Springs

Immediately adjacent and feeding the same schools, with a high concentration of secondary-age siblings. Families here often need two slots on the same evening, which is easier to hold without travel between them.

Emirates Hills and The Lakes

Large plots and long internal drives, so a tutor's door-to-door time is longer than the distance suggests. Demand concentrates on Higher Level sciences and Analysis and Approaches at Paper 3 level.

Arabian Ranches and Dubai Hills Estate

Villa communities feeding several schools on this side of the city. The journey out here is why in-home evening rates sit at the upper end of the published band rather than the lower.

Jumeirah Village and Motor City

Apartment-heavy and popular with families managing single-school fees carefully. Online delivery removes the travel surcharge that an in-home tutor adds for a trip out and back in peak hours.

Jumeirah Islands and Al Barsha South

Close to the Al Khail corridor and the inland school cluster. The usual obstacle is not distance but collision with after-school activities and the mandatory Arabic support already running.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

The Meadows, The Springs and Emirates Hills

A compact cluster of villa communities served by a small number of large schools. Students we support here are frequently choosing between the Diploma and a sixth-form route, which makes the Year 11 grade set unusually consequential.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the destination, not just the problem

A Higher Level list, a sixth-form shortlist or a mathematics route decision all change which tutor is right. Send the year group, the entry codes, the component costing marks and where the student is heading, and the match is made against the destination rather than against a subject name.

  2. 02

We match one tutor and run a free trial

The trial is a real teaching hour on the student's own work rather than a consultation. The student decides afterwards, because the student is the one attending every week. If the pairing is wrong we match again instead of asking a family to persevere with it.

  3. 03

Fix the hour and hold it for the term

Most Meadows and Springs families settle between five and eight in the evening, Gulf Standard Time. We hold that hour across the term so it survives the activities timetable, and move it for mock weeks, Ramadan and travel when you tell us in advance.

  4. 04

Work from the school's own sequence

The tutor asks for the current unit or the coursework deadline each half term and teaches to it rather than running a parallel syllabus. That keeps the hour useful this week and stops the student carrying two competing versions of a topic into a paper.

  5. 05

Read the weekly note and watch the error log

Every session ends with a written note of what was taught, what went wrong and what to practise. Across a term the repeating errors become the real diagnosis, and they are almost always narrower and more fixable than the worry that prompted the first enquiry.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Route advice based on marked work

The Analysis or Applications decision is made from what the student's own papers show rather than from which course sounds stronger. That conversation is short, it is evidence-based, and it is the cheapest intervention available in Year 11.

Matched to the syllabus code

Cambridge 0580, 0625, 0620, 0610 and 0478 alongside Pearson 4MA1, 4PH1, 4CH1 and 4BI1. Paper structures, tiering and practical assessment differ by board, so the tutor is matched to what the school actually enters rather than to the subject name.

Coursework handled inside the rules

Criterion-level feedback on the student's own draft, documented session by session, with no text supplied and no draft rewritten. If a school asks what support was given, there is a record that answers honestly rather than a gap.

Every figure attributed

Each AED band names the provider who published it, each regulator fact names the source document, and no IB examination date appears at all because none could be verified from the board itself. That is checkable, which is the only kind of number worth printing.

No travel premium on a long drive

Live video means a specialist does not have to reach The Meadows by five. Published in-home rates start at AED 180 an hour partly because of that journey, and removing it widens the pool while taking the travel cost out of the hour.

Two children, one evening

Consecutive one-to-one slots with no journey between them is straightforward online and awkward in person. Households in The Springs and The Meadows with two secondary-age children use this more than any other scheduling arrangement.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

Should an Emirates International School Meadows student take Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation?+

Decide from marked work and from prerequisites, not from which course sounds harder. Analysis is algebra, calculus and proof; Applications is data, statistics and modelling, with matrices and graph theory at Higher Level. Applications is not a reduced Analysis, and its Higher Level still assumes algebraic confidence. Engineering, physics and mathematics programmes commonly specify Analysis, often at Higher Level, while business, design and social sciences usually accept either. Check the requirement on the programme's own published pages, because faculties differ inside one institution and requirements change between admissions cycles.

How many IGCSE subjects does a Meadows student need for UAE equivalency?+

The published British-track requirement is five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus either one Advanced Level subject at no less than E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic Education are not counted among the five, which is the detail families most often get wrong. One site ranking in this market publishes a six-subject figure that does not match the rule. Verify the current requirement on the Ministry's own channel; IB Gram neither performs nor guarantees any part of equivalency.

Which exam board does Emirates International School Meadows use for its IGCSE entries?+

Ask the examinations officer, because schools in Dubai run different boards in different subjects and revise entries between cohorts. The difference changes revision: Cambridge Mathematics 0580 tiers into Core and Extended with Papers 2 and 4 at Extended, while Pearson Mathematics A 4MA1 tiers into Foundation and Higher over two two-hour papers with no multiple choice. Cambridge sciences carry a separate practical or alternative-to-practical paper worth a fifth of the grade; the Pearson international sciences assess practical skills inside the written papers instead.

Do you send a tutor out to The Meadows or The Springs?+

No. IB Gram delivers one-to-one tuition to UAE families over live video, and in-home visiting is a service offered only in India. Saying so plainly is more useful than letting it surface later. What you gain is choice: the tutor no longer has to drive out past Emirates Hills by five, so availability is set by who is free at your hour rather than by who lives nearby. For Higher Level sciences and Analysis Paper 3 work in Dubai, that is a material difference.

What is the cheapest sensible tutoring option in Dubai?+

For homework company and re-explaining a topic, the budget online band is appropriate: Tutopiya publishes from AED 33 to 52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65. That band is genuinely useful for a Year 8 or Year 9 student and anything more is overspending. The step up matters when the problem becomes a mark scheme rather than a concept, where qualified subject tutors sit around AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Those are market figures, not IB Gram's prices.

My child's Diploma science grade dropped. Where should we look first?+

At the investigation and the arithmetic, in that order. The internally assessed investigation is worth about a fifth of the subject grade and is marked on research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation, none of which IGCSE assessed, so students build something that produces data but cannot answer the question set. The second place is quantitative handling: a student who passed IGCSE chemistry by pattern-matching moles calculations stalls in the first energetics unit. Both are fixable in a handful of sessions once the diagnosis is right rather than general.

Which regulator would apply if we moved from Dubai to Abu Dhabi or Sharjah?+

A different one in each case, because private-school regulation sits with the emirate. According to u.ae, Dubai is overseen by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain by the Department of Education and Knowledge, Sharjah by the Sharjah Private Education Authority and Ras Al Khaimah by its Department of Knowledge, while the Ministry of Education supervises Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. In Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah the authority also approves fees, curricula and assessment methods. The qualification itself travels with the student, since board registration is not emirate-level.

Can a tutor help choose my Meadows child's exploration topic?+

A tutor may stress-test the student's own ideas against the criteria and explain why one question will generate more mathematics than another, and that is the most valuable session available because it happens before any writing. A tutor may not hand over a question for the student to adopt, write or rewrite passages into the submitted version, or process the data. The student keeps a note of the decision and their reasoning, and the tutor's session note records what was taught, so support can be described honestly if the school asks.

Is it worth starting tuition in Year 10 rather than waiting for Year 11?+

Usually yes, for one specific reason: the Cambridge tier decision is taken on the school's evidence late in Year 10, and a Core placement caps the grade at C and leaves roughly a term of algebra to acquire before Higher Level mathematics becomes workable. Work in Year 10 that secures an Extended placement is cheaper and far less stressful than work in Year 12 bridging the consequence. If the tier is already secure, Year 10 support is better spent on one weak subject than spread thinly across several.

Is the Cambridge February series available to UAE candidates, or only in India?+

No. Cambridge International offers the February and March series to India only, so it should never appear in a UAE revision plan. UAE candidates sit the June series, with November available as the resit route. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November, and the November 2026 final timetable runs to 19 November 2026. Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and warns that the correct zone timetable must be used, so ask the school's examinations officer which zone your centre sits in.

How quickly can you match a tutor for a Meadows family?+

For the common Extended-tier IGCSE subjects and Standard Level Diploma subjects, usually within a few days, because the pool is broad. For a Higher Level science at Paper 3 depth or a less common subject, it can take longer and sometimes the honest answer is that nobody suitable is free at your preferred hour. In that case the options are a different hour, a short wait, or a tutor outside the UAE teaching on Gulf Standard Time, all disclosed with the rate before anything is booked rather than afterwards.

Can one tutor take two children in the same Springs household?+

Often yes within a subject family, and consecutive one-to-one slots on the same evening is the arrangement most households with two secondary-age children settle on. Separate hours are kept, because two students at different stages are graded against different schemes and a shared hour serves neither well. A chemistry specialist who teaches both IGCSE Extended and Diploma chemistry can also tell the younger child which skill the older one wishes they had secured earlier, which is useful and free.

What does the school's published inspection band tell a parent about one subject?+

Less than most parents assume. Dubai schools are judged on a six-band scale from Outstanding through Very Good, Good and Acceptable to Weak and Very Weak, and the band summarises many separate judgements about teaching, outcomes, leadership and provision. Read the subject-level commentary and the sections on provision for different groups instead, on the regulator's own website rather than from a summary elsewhere. A school can be strong overall and still thin in one Higher Level subject purely because the cohort taking it is small.

Does a private tutor working with a Meadows student need a UAE permit?+

Yes. Individuals giving private lessons need a private tuition work permit from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, applied for through the ministry's smart app and e-services, with a published completion time of two working days. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Tutoring without one attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published.

Start with the decision, then buy the hours the decision needs

Send the year group, the subject entries or syllabus codes, and where the student is actually heading after Year 11. We match a tutor against that destination and run a free trial lesson on the student's own work, over live video, at a Gulf Standard Time hour that suits a Dubai school day. The student decides afterwards whether the pairing works; if it does, we hold the slot for the term, and if not, we match again. Nothing on this page is a price list, every AED figure names its publisher, and no IB date appears because none could be verified from the board.
