Edexcel IGCSE Home Tutor in Dubai

Hiring an Edexcel IGCSE home tutor in Dubai is a pricing decision before it is an academic one. Published in-home rates here run roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour because the drive is inside the number, while qualified online tutors are advertised from AED 150. This page sets out both, names who publishes each figure, and explains why IB Gram delivers one-to-one over live video instead.

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

The number on the quote is not the number you pay

Families searching for an Edexcel IGCSE home tutor in Dubai are usually trying to answer one question: what will this cost over a year, and is it worth it. That question is harder than it should be, because most providers in this market do not publish a price. Of the six best-ranking tutoring pages fetched for this research, three carry no figure at all and two quote in US dollars. One of them even has a FAQ that asks what tutoring costs and then declines to answer it.

So here is the market, in dirhams, with sources. Budget online tutoring from students and early-career tutors is advertised from roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik publishing AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya AED 33 to 52. A qualified subject tutor working online sits at roughly AED 150 to 300, with Unitors listing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. In-home one-to-one with travel priced in runs AED 180 to 500: Bestimate's Dubai rate table puts the band at 180 to 350, and independent home tutors advertise up to 500. Specialists in IB, IGCSE and A Level are quoted at AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase listing AED 270. Premium named tutors are advertised at AED 500 to 650 and above, with BartyED publishing AED 650.

The gap between the online band and the in-home band is not a quality gap. It is a travel gap. A tutor who drives to three households in an evening across Dubai spends well over an hour in the car, and that hour is paid for by somebody. In a city where an afternoon crossing from Mirdif to the Marina can take forty minutes each way, the premium is simply the cost of the road, converted into an hourly rate and handed to the family who booked the slot furthest from the tutor's own home.

There is a second cost, less visible and usually larger. Geography shrinks the pool. The set of people who can teach Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Chemistry 4CH1 properly is small; the subset of those who live within a reasonable drive of your community is smaller still. Families who insist on proximity are often buying a worse match at a higher rate, which is the most expensive combination available in this market.

IB Gram's position is stated plainly because it changes what you are comparing. Tutoring for UAE families is delivered one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time. We do not sell home visits in the UAE; that is a service offered only in India. What that buys is a tutor chosen for the specification rather than the postcode, with no travel inside the rate and no forty-minute buffer around every session.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Cost scales with the stage, because the stage decides how many hours a subject actually needs. These are the three points at which Dubai families most often start paying for Edexcel support, plus the post-16 route that follows.

KS3Ages 11-14

Lower Secondary (Years 7-9)

The cheapest hours anyone buys and the ones most often skipped. There is no external exam here, so the spending decision feels optional, and the gaps that open — indices, rearranging formulae, balancing equations, paragraph structure — are the ones that resurface as expensive problems in Year 11. A single weekly hour at the budget-to-mid band for two terms costs a fraction of a pre-exam rescue.

In Dubai this stage also carries the set-placement decision that later implies a Foundation or Higher tier entry in Mathematics A. A family spending modestly in Year 9 is often buying a different tier ceiling in Year 11, which is a far better return than the same money spent in the spring of the exam year.

IGCSEAges 14-16

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE (Years 10-11)

Two years, graded 9-1, with most Dubai students taking eight to ten subjects. Spending here concentrates in two bursts: the autumn of Year 11 when mock results land, and the eight weeks before the series. Families who spread one weekly hour across both years generally pay less in total than families who buy intensively in the final term, and they buy it at a calmer price.

Exam-year demand in Dubai pushes availability tight from February onwards, and tutors with genuine specification depth fill their evening slots first. The practical effect is that the same hour is harder to buy in March than in October, which is a scheduling constraint rather than a surcharge, and it is the main reason to decide early.

IALAges 16-19

International A Level (Years 12-13)

Pearson's modular International A Level, assessed in units across sittings. Hourly rates rise at this level in every published band, because the pool of tutors who can teach a unit to A Level depth is smaller. The compensating factor is that modular structure allows narrow, targeted purchases: one unit, one sitting, a defined number of hours.

Dubai schools cannot always staff every A Level option, and students occasionally sit a unit as a private candidate. That carries its own entry costs through the centre, separate from any tutoring, and the exams officer is the person who can quote them. Budget for both separately rather than assuming tuition covers entry.

DPAges 16-19

IB Diploma Programme (Years 12-13)

The alternative post-16 route in many Dubai schools. Published rates for IB support sit above IGCSE in every band that distinguishes them — Unitors lists IB from AED 200 against IGCSE from AED 150. The Diploma also adds internally assessed work, which is where families most often overspend on the wrong kind of help.

If your child is moving from Pearson International GCSEs into the Diploma, the expensive gap is not content. It is the internal assessment, which has no real equivalent in the 4-series specifications. A small number of hours spent early on how criteria are applied is cheaper than a large number spent late on a draft that is already structurally wrong.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Rates do not vary much by subject in published price lists, but hours needed vary enormously. These are the Pearson Edexcel International GCSE subjects Dubai families most often buy support in, with an honest note on how expensive each tends to be in time.

Mathematics A (4MA1)

Foundation and Higher tier

The most-bought subject in the market and the one where the tier decision has the largest financial consequence. Repairing Year 9 foundations so a student can sit Higher is a term of weekly work. Polishing a student already scoring in the Higher-tier grade 7 range is six to eight sessions. Those are very different invoices for the same subject name.

Chemistry (4CH1)

Single tier, 9-1

Consistently the most expensive science in hours. Moles calculations and organic chemistry both need repeated practice rather than explanation, which means weekly work over a term rather than a short block. Families who buy four hours of chemistry in April are usually buying reassurance rather than marks.

Physics (4PH1)

Single tier, 9-1

Often cheaper to fix than it looks, because a large share of lost marks sit in unit handling and extended-response technique rather than in topic knowledge. A diagnostic that locates the loss in technique can turn a projected term of work into a six-session block, which is the single biggest cost saving available on this page.

Biology (4BI1)

Single tier, 9-1

Looks like a memory subject and is marked like a precision subject. Hours go on teaching the student to write what the mark scheme names rather than what they remember. Comparatively efficient to tutor once the student accepts that recall alone caps them around the middle grades.

Science (Double Award) (4SD0)

Single tier, two grades

The entry where money is most often wasted, because students revise from separate-science material covering content outside their specification. One session spent checking the revision resources against the actual specification routinely saves weeks, and weeks are what you are paying for.

English Language A (4EA1)

Single tier, with a coursework route

Hours concentrate on the writing section, where form, audience and purpose carry marks students regularly ignore. Reading-section work is quicker to fix. Where a centre uses the coursework route, note that a tutor may teach and give feedback but may not supply text for submission, which limits how much of the work is purchasable at any price.

English Literature (4ET1)

Single tier, with a coursework route

Unseen poetry is the reliable cost centre. Students who write about theme instead of method need a technique rebuilt rather than more texts read, and that takes six to ten sessions of marked practice. Buying more reading does not help and is the most common misallocation in this subject.

Economics (4EC1) and Business (4BS1)

Single tier, 9-1

Cheap subjects to tutor well. Most lost marks come from unlabelled diagrams and evaluation written as a list rather than a judgement with a condition. Both are learnable sentence patterns, which means a short block does real work and a long engagement is rarely justified.

History (4HI1) and Geography (4GE1)

Single tier, 9-1

Content-heavy and therefore hour-heavy if started late. Geography needs named, dated, located case studies that cannot be assembled in a fortnight. History needs source interrogation rather than source description. Both reward a steady weekly hour from early Year 11 far more than an intensive block in April.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy Edexcel IGCSE support in Dubai, priced differently and suited to different problems. All three are delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

Weekly hour across the two years

The lowest total cost for the most coverage, because the work happens while problems are small. One hour a week from early Year 10 through to the series costs less in aggregate than the same number of hours bought in the final term, and it avoids the February scramble when specification-literate tutors stop having free evenings.

  • Same slot and tutor held for the term
  • Marked written task between sessions
  • Total spend predictable a term at a time
  • Cheapest route to a tier decision made on evidence

Pre-series intensive block

Six to ten weeks of two or three sessions a week before a May/June or November series. Higher weekly spend, shorter duration, and a narrower goal: paper technique, timing, and the three topics that still fail under pressure. Buy this only with a diagnostic in hand, because an intensive block aimed at the wrong component is the most expensive mistake available.

  • Starts from a full timed paper, marked against the scheme
  • Written scope agreed before the block is paid for
  • Session count fixed, not open-ended
  • Exit paper on the same component to show movement

Single-component clinic

Three to six hours against one paper rather than one subject. The cheapest purchase that reliably moves a grade, and the one most families never consider because providers prefer to sell terms. Appropriate when a mock shows a clean split between a strong and a weak component.

  • Scope limited to one component and written down
  • Fixed hour count, quoted in advance
  • Converts to weekly work only on evidence
  • Useful for Double Award entries revising the wrong content

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What an in-home hour in Dubai actually costs, line by line

Start with the published figures, because almost nobody in this market will give them to you. Bestimate's Dubai rate table prices in-home one-to-one tutoring at AED 180 to 350 an hour with travel included, and independent home tutors advertise up to AED 500. Against that, a qualified subject tutor working online is published at AED 150 to 300, and budget online tutoring from students and early-career tutors at AED 45 to 150, with EdFlik listing AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya AED 33 to 52. Specialist IB, IGCSE and A-Level tutors are quoted at AED 200 to 450 and above, TutorChase at AED 270, and premium named tutors at AED 500 to 650 and above, with BartyED publishing AED 650.

Those are the providers' own numbers, dated to this research in October 2026, and they are the market rather than a quote from us. What the spread tells you is that format, not quality, drives most of the variation. The same tutor delivering the same hour is priced differently depending on whether a car was involved, and the difference is roughly the cost of thirty to sixty minutes of their time.

The band also hides a tier question. An hour at AED 200 from someone who teaches general Year 10 maths and an hour at AED 200 from someone who can name which method marks your child forfeited on 4MA1 Paper 2 are the same price and not the same product. Published rates cannot distinguish them, which is why the useful question is never how much but what is included and what the tutor can show you after one session.

A note on VAT. Rates are quoted inconsistently in this market, some inclusive and some not, and the UAE tax treatment of tuition is not something any tutoring page should assert without a Federal Tax Authority citation. Ask every provider, in writing, whether the figure they quoted includes VAT. The answer changes a year's spending by a meaningful amount and takes one sentence to obtain.

02

The drive is in the rate: forty minutes, costed out

  • Ninety minutes of driving across three appointments is paid for by the three families
  • Far-flung villa communities draw quotes at the upper end of the published in-home band
  • Shortened sessions caused by traffic are a silent reduction in what you bought
  • Online removes travel from both the rate and the schedule

Take a tutor who charges AED 250 an hour and serves three households in an evening. If the gaps between them cost twenty minutes each and the journeys to the first and from the last cost twenty-five minutes apiece, that evening contains roughly ninety minutes of driving against three hours of teaching. Nobody works for free, so the ninety minutes is distributed across the three invoices. That is the whole mechanism behind the in-home premium.

Now add Dubai's geography. A tutor living in Al Barsha who takes a 16:30 appointment in Arabian Ranches and a 18:30 appointment in Mirdif has committed to a crossing of the city at the worst hour of the day. The rational response is either a higher rate for the far appointment, a refusal to take it, or clustering appointments by area, which is why your available slot is often decided by a route rather than by your child.

There is a second effect families feel but rarely price. A visiting tutor who hits traffic arrives late and the session shortens, or overruns into the next family's slot. Across a term, a handful of shortened sessions is a real reduction in what was bought. Over two years of weekly sessions, the accumulated loss is measured in whole hours.

The comparison with online is not that one is better teaching. It is that one of them contains no car. At the qualified tier, published online rates start AED 30 or more below the bottom of the published in-home band, the session starts when it says it will, and the tutor can be chosen from everyone who teaches the specification rather than everyone who teaches it and lives nearby. For a narrow Pearson code, that second point usually matters more than the first.

03

Monthly packages against hourly rates, and what each one hides

Packages seen in this market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. Bestimate's own monthly estimates for one weekly hour are AED 240 to 600 at the budget tier, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support. Those figures are useful for budgeting and dangerous for comparing, because the units differ.

Convert everything to an hourly figure before you decide. Eight sessions at AED 799 is about AED 100 an hour if the sessions are sixty minutes, and about AED 133 if they are forty-five. Four two-hour sessions at AED 1,699 is roughly AED 212 an hour. Those two packages look like a cheap option and an expensive option; they are a budget-tier product and a mid-tier in-home product, and the comparison only means something once the session length is in the sum.

Packages also tend to bundle the things that matter least and exclude the things that matter most. Marking between sessions, a written termly summary and a diagnostic paper are what make an hour worth more than the hour. Ask whether they are inside the package or billed separately. Ask what happens to unused sessions at the end of the month, because that clause is where the real price of a package sits.

The cancellation window is the other clause worth reading. A twenty-four-hour window is normal and fair; a policy that charges in full for a session cancelled because a child is ill is not, and in an exam year illness is not a hypothetical. Get the window, the notice period and the make-up policy in writing before the first payment, not after the first clash.

Six provider models, and what each one is actually selling

Every provider in this market compares itself favourably against an unnamed alternative. A more useful comparison is by model, because the model determines the economics, the tutor pool and what happens when a match does not work. There are six in Dubai and a family will meet all of them within an hour of searching.

An online matching platform, which is what IB Gram is, draws from a pool defined by specification rather than by geography and carries no travel in the rate. A specialist agency carries higher overheads and usually a higher rate, with a curated pool and a defined replacement process. An international marketplace offers volume and self-service, often quoting in dollars, with quality left to the parent to assess. A freelance independent tutor is frequently the best value per hour and carries the highest variance, with no replacement if the match fails or the tutor leaves the country. A tuition centre sells group classes at a lower unit price and a shared pace. The school's own after-hours support is usually included in fees and limited to the school's timetable and policy.

The question that separates them is not the rate. It is what happens in week three when the match is wrong. A platform or agency should replace the tutor without restarting the fee. A marketplace leaves you to rebook and re-pay the search cost in your own time. A freelance arrangement ends and begins again from nothing. Ask the question before you pay, because every provider has an answer and only some of them will give it unprompted.

One practical note on the permit question. Under UAE rules, individuals providing private lessons need a MoHRE private tuition work permit; the permit itself is free and valid for two years. Ask any provider how they verify that their tutors working with UAE-based students hold the appropriate permission, and treat a vague answer as information.

What moves the number in Dubai specifically

  • Specification narrowness, not seniority, is the main legitimate price driver
  • Availability tightens from February; October booking is cheaper in every sense
  • Sixty focused minutes usually beats ninety unfocused ones, and costs less
  • A grade promise is not a feature and should not carry a premium

Five things change a quote in this city, and only one of them is the tutor's seniority. The first is scarcity of the specification. A tutor who can teach any Year 10 maths is widely available; one who works in Pearson 4CH1 at the top of the grade range is not, and narrowness is priced. The second is the calendar. Demand concentrates from February, and by March the evening slots held by specification-literate tutors are taken. The same hour is therefore easier and calmer to buy in October.

The third is distance, which applies only to in-home arrangements and explains most of the gap between the published bands. The fourth is session length. Rates are quoted per hour but sessions are sold in forty-five, sixty and ninety-minute units, and a ninety-minute session is not simply one and a half times as useful. For most Year 10 and 11 students, sixty minutes of focused work beats ninety minutes of diminishing attention, and the shorter session is cheaper.

The fifth is the tier and the goal. Repairing two years of missing foundations so a student can sit Higher tier in Mathematics A is a term of weekly work. Moving a student who already sits at grade 7 to the top of the range is six to eight sessions on technique. Both get described as maths tutoring, and the invoices differ by a factor of four.

Two things that should not move the number, but sometimes do, are worth naming. A promise of a specific grade is not a feature and no tutor can deliver it; any quote that rises because of one is charging you for a claim. And examiner status used as a price justification should be evidenced before it is paid for, because it is unverifiable from a profile page and is the easiest claim in this market to make.

06

The extras that quietly change the real hourly figure

A quoted rate is a starting point. What turns it into a real cost is the list of things that sit around the hour, and the list is short enough to run through in one phone call. Marking between sessions is the first. A tutor who sets a timed paper, marks it against the published scheme and arrives at the next session with the analysis already done is doing two hours of work for one hour of billing. A tutor who marks nothing is cheaper per hour and more expensive per mark.

Materials come second. IB Gram does not supply Pearson specifications, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables, because they are the board's copyright material, and no tutor should be sending you a folder of them. Legitimate access runs through the school, which holds it via its Pearson centre account, and through the official pages on qualifications.pearson.com. That costs nothing, so a materials fee deserves a question.

Reporting is third. A written summary once a term, naming the question types where marks have stopped leaking, is what lets a family judge whether the spending is working. Ask whether it is included. The absence of reporting is the main reason families carry on paying for a year of sessions that are not moving anything.

Fourth is the clause set: cancellation window, notice period, make-up sessions, and what happens to a pre-paid block if the tutor becomes unavailable. Fifth, for private candidates, are examination entry fees, which are charged by the centre and have nothing to do with tutoring. Families planning a November entry or a private sitting should get that figure from the exams officer early, because it is a separate line in the budget and it is not small.

07

Tutoring cost in context for a Dubai household

Tutoring is rarely the largest education line in a Dubai budget, and seeing it against the others changes how families decide. School fees dominate, and the relevant fact for 2026-27 is that KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there will be no increase in private school fees in the emirate for that academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. For many households that freeze is the first year in a while where the education budget has not moved on its own.

Against that, a weekly mid-tier hour at Bestimate's AED 600 to 1,200 a month is a visible but containable line, and a specialist exam-year arrangement at AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above is a decision rather than a reflex. The sum that matters is not the monthly figure but the total across the course. One weekly hour for two IGCSE years at the mid tier is a far larger number than most families compute before starting, and it is still usually less than a panicked final term at the specialist tier.

The market is also getting larger rather than tighter. Dubai's private school sector served 387,441 students across 227 schools in 2024-25 with 17 curricula licensed, and the 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools — four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate — creating 16,846 new places, after six new schools opened in 2025-26 and enrolment rose by six per cent. More British-curriculum places means more IGCSE candidates, which means demand for specification-literate tutoring in the exam term keeps rising.

The honest planning advice is unglamorous: decide the annual number first, then buy the shape that fits it. A fixed budget spent as one weekly hour from October beats the same budget spent as three hours a week in April, because the first version buys understanding and the second buys triage.

Is whoever you hire legally permitted to teach in Dubai?

This is the cheapest question on the page and almost nobody asks it. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. MoHRE's own service page is titled Issuance of a New Work Permit — Private Tutor Licensing, lists no fees, states a two-working-day completion time, and is applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system.

Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so any specific amount you see quoted online should be treated as unverified. The permit also carries a code of conduct. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar private and charter school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct likewise restricts serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Marketing that offers your child their own class teacher privately is offering something that should not be on sale.

An operation with premises and staff is a different legal animal from an individual tutor. A tuition centre in Dubai requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. That permit is specific and issued to institutions with premises. No tutoring provider should describe itself as regulator-approved without holding it, and IB Gram does not hold it or claim it.

What a parent can do takes ten minutes. Ask the provider what permission the tutor working with your child holds and how it was checked. Ask whether the tutor is employed by the provider or contracted. Ask what happens if the tutor leaves. The answers are free and they tell you more about the organisation than any figure on a rate card.

Why the search says home tutor and the lesson happens over video

Parents type home tutor because it is the shortest way to say someone who teaches my child, one-to-one, outside school. The word home describes where the parent is, not a requirement about the tutor's commute. Once that is separated out, the choice becomes a straightforward trade: pay the travel premium and accept a locally drawn tutor pool, or remove the travel and choose from everyone who teaches the specification.

For a narrow Pearson code the second option wins on both price and match quality, which is unusual and worth stating. Published online rates at the qualified tier start below the bottom of the published in-home band, and the pool is defined by who knows 4MA1 Higher-tier mark schemes rather than by who lives in the next community. IB Gram delivers one-to-one over live video for this reason, and does not sell home visits in the UAE — that remains an India-only service.

The format has a cost column too, and families deserve it before they pay. A student who needs an adult physically present to stay on task will drift on a screen, and that is a question the free trial lesson exists to answer. Younger students manage shorter sessions better online than longer ones. A household with one laptop and three children has a logistics problem that no format solves by itself.

What the format adds, for a subject assessed entirely by written paper, is a record. Every annotated script is saved, so a family can see the same question type being lost in October and not being lost in February. That is the evidence a spending decision should rest on, and it is far harder to assemble from a folder of paper left on a kitchen table.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

Where you live in Dubai changes the in-home price and changes nothing about an online one. These notes are about the drive, because the drive is what the premium pays for.

Dubai Marina and JLT

Dense, well-connected and popular with visiting tutors, so the in-home premium here is at the lower end of the band. The constraint is the flat: a shared living room at 18:00 is a worse study environment than a quiet bedroom in a villa community.

Arabian Ranches and Dubailand

A long drive from almost anywhere a tutor is likely to live, which pushes in-home quotes towards the upper half of the published range. Buses arrive late, so a 16:30 slot rarely works and an 18:00 start is the realistic one.

Mirdif and Al Warqa

Heavy afternoon traffic and a wide British-curriculum catchment. Tutors serving this area often cluster appointments into one evening, which means your slot is fixed by their route rather than by your child's energy levels.

Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim

Short school runs and early finishes make this the one part of the city where a 16:30 in-home slot is genuinely practical. It is also where the highest published rates are quoted, because demand for grade 8 and 9 polishing concentrates here.

Al Barsha and TECOM

Central, so travel surcharges are modest, but tutor diaries fill early because several large secondary schools sit inside a few kilometres. Tier questions in Mathematics A arrive from this catchment more than any other.

Dubai Silicon Oasis and Academic City

Far enough out that in-home quotes carry a real travel component, and a catchment with long bus routes. Also where November-series and private-candidate questions appear most often, both of which have costs of their own.

Al Qusais and Al Nahda

Close to the Sharjah boundary, so some households are inside a different regulator's jurisdiction for schooling. Afternoon traffic on the Al Ittihad Road corridor is the practical obstacle to any slot before 18:30.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Villa communities: Arabian Ranches, Al Barsha South, Dubai Hills

Long bus routes, quiet study space and a willingness to pay the upper in-home band. Whether a school enters Pearson or Cambridge in a given subject is the school's decision and can vary between departments, so confirm it with the exams officer rather than inferring it.

  • Jumeirah English Speaking School, Arabian Ranches
  • GEMS Wellington Academy Al Khail
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Dubai British School Jumeirah Park
  • GEMS Metropole School

Apartment districts: Marina, Business Bay, Al Qusais

Shorter drives and lower in-home premiums, but study space is the binding constraint and later slots are the norm. Families here are the quickest to find that an online slot costs less and fits better.

  • Dubai English Speaking College
  • GEMS Our Own English High School
  • Star International School Mirdif
  • Dubai Scholars Private School
  • Universal American School

Named schools are context for families searching in these areas. IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform and has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement from any school, school group or examination board mentioned here.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Decide the annual number before the first call

Work out what the household will spend on tutoring across the academic year, then choose the shape that fits it. A fixed budget spent as one weekly hour from October does more than the same budget spent as three hours a week in April, because the first buys understanding and the second buys triage.

  2. 02

Send the entry statement and the latest mock script

The Pearson codes, the tier, the school, the year group and one marked paper are enough to quote honestly. Without the script, any quote is a guess, and guesses in this market are priced upwards. With it, a tutor can tell you whether the problem is six sessions of technique or a term of content.

  3. 03

Take the free trial lesson and judge the marking

The trial is one lesson at no charge, with no card needed and no obligation afterwards. Watch what happens to your child's own work in it. A tutor who marks a page against the published scheme and names the question types costing marks has shown you the product; a tutor who talks for an hour has not.

  4. 04

Get five answers in writing before paying

Session length, marking between sessions, written reporting, the cancellation window, and whether the quoted rate includes VAT. Add a sixth for coursework subjects: what the tutor will and will not do with a draft. Five minutes of questions is the highest-return activity in this whole process.

  5. 05

Review the spend against evidence at week four and again at week ten

By week four there should be a shortening list of question types where marks have stopped leaking. By week ten, a mock or timed paper should show it. If neither exists, stop and change something rather than renewing. Continuing to pay without evidence is the most common way money is wasted here.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Figures with a named source and a date

Every AED band on this page is attributed to the provider that published it, dated to October 2026, and presented as the market rather than as our price. Three of the six best-ranking pages in this cluster publish no figure at all, which is a choice rather than an oversight.

No travel inside the rate

Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, so no part of the hour pays for a car. IB Gram does not sell home visits in the UAE; that service exists only in India. Sessions start when the calendar says they start, which over two years is a measurable amount of teaching.

The pool is defined by the specification

Tutors are matched to the Pearson code on the entry statement rather than to a drivable radius. For a narrow subject such as 4CH1 at the top of the grade range, that is the difference between a specialist and whoever was available nearby at the price.

Terms stated before payment, not after

Session length, marking, reporting, the cancellation window and the VAT question are answered before any paid block begins. A free trial means one lesson at no cost with no card required, and we say so on the same screen as the word free.

Claims we will not make to justify a rate

No grade promises, no self-asserted ratings, no regulator approval we do not hold, and no examiner status offered as a price justification without evidence. Several providers in this market do at least one of those, and every one of them is a reason to ask harder questions rather than to pay more.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

How much does an Edexcel IGCSE home tutor in Dubai charge per hour?+

Published in-home rates in Dubai run roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel included. Bestimate's Dubai rate table puts the band at AED 180 to 350, and independent home tutors advertise up to AED 500. Specialists in IB, IGCSE and A Level are quoted at AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase listing AED 270, and premium named tutors at AED 500 to 650, with BartyED publishing AED 650. Those are the providers' own figures as at October 2026, not IB Gram's prices. Ask what each rate includes before treating two of them as comparable.

Why is an in-home rate higher than an online rate for the same tutor?+

Because the drive is inside the number. A tutor serving three households in an evening spends an hour or more in the car, and that time is distributed across the three invoices. In Dubai, where an afternoon crossing between communities can take forty minutes each way, the premium is essentially the cost of the road. Published online rates for a qualified subject tutor start at AED 150, below the bottom of the published in-home band of AED 180. The second, larger cost of insisting on proximity is a smaller tutor pool for a narrow Pearson specification.

Is a monthly package better value than paying by the hour in Dubai?+

Only once you convert it to the same unit. Eight online sessions advertised at AED 799 a month works out around AED 100 an hour at sixty minutes and AED 133 at forty-five. Four two-hour in-home sessions at AED 1,599 to 1,799 is roughly AED 200 to 225 an hour. Those are a budget-tier product and a mid-tier in-home product rather than a cheap option and an expensive one. Before paying, ask what happens to unused sessions, whether marking between lessons is included, and what the cancellation window is.

What should I ask about VAT before agreeing a tutoring rate?+

Ask one direct question in writing: does the quoted figure include VAT or not. Rates in this market are quoted both ways and the difference across a year of weekly sessions is material. No tutoring page should assert the UAE tax treatment of tuition fees as fact without a Federal Tax Authority citation, so treat any confident claim about it with caution and get the provider's own position in writing instead. The same message is a good place to ask about the cancellation window and what happens to a pre-paid block if the tutor becomes unavailable.

Does paying more actually buy a better Edexcel IGCSE tutor?+

Sometimes, and the legitimate reason is narrowness rather than seniority. A tutor who can teach general Year 10 maths is widely available; one who works in Pearson 4MA1 Higher tier and can name which method marks your child is forfeiting is a much smaller pool, and scarcity is priced. What should not carry a premium is a grade promise, which no tutor can deliver, or an unevidenced examiner claim. Ask what the first session will produce. A specialist answers with a diagnostic; a generalist answers with enthusiasm.

How much should a Dubai family budget for two years of IGCSE support?+

Use Bestimate's monthly estimates for one weekly hour as the base: AED 240 to 600 at the budget tier, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year work. Across two IGCSE years, a steady mid-tier weekly hour is a larger total than most families compute before starting, and still usually less than an intensive final term at the specialist tier. Decide the annual figure first and then choose the shape, rather than buying hours reactively after each set of mock results.

Are examination entry fees included in what a tutor charges?+

No. Examination entry is charged by the centre, quite separately from any tutoring, and the school's exams officer is the person who can quote it. This matters most for families planning a November-series entry or a private-candidate sitting, where the entry arrangement itself has to be organised through a centre. Budget the two lines separately. A tutoring quote that appears to cover entry, or a provider that is vague about the distinction, is worth a follow-up question before any money moves.

What does a tutor charging AED 250 an hour do between my child's sessions?+

At the specialist tier, the answer should be concrete: set a timed component, mark it against the published Pearson scheme, and arrive at the next session with the analysis already done. That is close to two hours of work billed as one. At the budget tier, usually nothing happens between sessions, which is why the rate is lower and the progress slower. Ask the question directly and ask for an example of the written output. The tutor who cannot describe it is selling an hour of conversation.

Can a tutor give my child Pearson past papers and mark schemes to practise from?+

IB Gram does not host, reproduce or supply Pearson specifications, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables, because they are the board's copyright material. The legitimate route is the school, which holds access through its Pearson centre account, and the official pages on qualifications.pearson.com. Ask the exams officer for past papers and, more usefully, for examiner reports, which state in the board's own words what candidates did badly last series. Any provider charging a materials fee for board documents deserves a direct question about what exactly is being sold.

Do I have to pay for a session my child misses because of illness?+

That depends entirely on the cancellation clause, which is why it belongs in writing before the first payment. A twenty-four-hour notice window with a make-up session offered is a normal and reasonable arrangement. A policy that charges in full regardless is not unusual in this market and is worth knowing about in advance, because in an exam year illness is a certainty rather than a risk. Ask about the notice period, the make-up policy, and what happens to the remainder of a pre-paid block if the arrangement ends early.

How do I check that a tutor working with my child is permitted to do so?+

Ask the provider what permission the tutor holds and how it was verified. Individuals providing private lessons in the UAE need a MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years, with MoHRE's service page listing no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Tutoring without a permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule is published. A tuition centre with premises needs a separate KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute.

Is a tuition centre group class cheaper than one-to-one for IGCSE?+

Per hour, almost always. Per mark, frequently not. A group class teaches to the pace of the batch, which suits a student whose gap matches the batch average and wastes time for everyone else. The thing one-to-one buys is component-level diagnosis: finding that a physics student lost four marks on electricity and fourteen on six-mark explanation questions across every topic. A centre class cannot do that for an individual. The sensible use of a centre is broad content coverage, with a small number of one-to-one hours bought for the diagnosis.

Is it cheaper to start Edexcel tutoring in Year 10 or wait until Year 11?+

Starting earlier costs less in total and buys more. One weekly hour from early Year 10 deals with gaps while they are small and spreads the spending across two years. Waiting until the mocks land in Year 11 means buying at the point of maximum demand, when specification-literate tutors have already filled their evening slots, and buying triage rather than teaching. Earlier work also keeps the Mathematics A tier decision open, which is the one choice in the whole course that sets a hard ceiling on the grade available.

Are lessons for Dubai families delivered at a UAE address or over video?+

Over live video, one-to-one, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not operate home visits in the UAE; that service is offered only in India. Two things follow from that. No part of the rate pays for travel, and the tutor is chosen from everyone who teaches your child's Pearson specification rather than from everyone who teaches it and lives within a drive. Screen-shared marking also leaves a saved record of every annotated script, which is the evidence a family needs when deciding whether to keep paying.

What is the cheapest purchase that actually moves an IGCSE grade?+

Usually a single-component clinic: three to six hours aimed at one paper rather than one subject. Families rarely consider it because providers prefer to sell terms, but when a mock shows a clean split — strong Paper 1, collapsing Paper 2, or a solid reading section and a weak writing section — a narrow block does the work. Agree the scope in writing, fix the hour count in advance, and set an exit paper on the same component so the movement is visible. Convert to weekly sessions only if the evidence supports it.

Price the hour, then price the year

An Edexcel IGCSE home tutor in Dubai is advertised at AED 180 to 500 an hour because the drive sits inside the figure, while qualified online tutors are published from AED 150. Decide the annual budget, send the exam-entry statement and one marked mock paper, and take the free trial lesson — one hour, no card, no obligation — before any block is agreed. Ask the five questions about session length, marking, reporting, cancellation and VAT. Families who do that spend less and know what they bought.
