IB Tutor near me in the UAE

Parents across the UAE type IB tutor near me into Google and get a map. A map answers the wrong question. It tells you who has a pin close to your address, not who has taught Chemistry at Higher Level or marked a Mathematics exploration against the published criteria. IB Gram works the other way round: lessons run live online, one-to-one, on Gulf Standard Time, so the filter is the syllabus your child sits rather than the drive to your district.

IB & IGCSE in the UAE

Near me, in a country with five school regulators

A proximity search is a cheap filter, and in the UAE it is also a misleading one. Dubai alone licensed 227 private schools in 2024-25, teaching 387,441 students across 17 different curricula, and the International Baccalaureate is a minority share of that enrolment. The nearest IB school to your address may be the only one for several districts. The nearest adult who has actually taught your child's exact subject at Higher Level may be nowhere within driving range. Distance predicts traffic well. It predicts nothing about whether anyone inside the radius has sat in front of that syllabus, marked that component, or read the examiner's report that explains where the marks went.

The second problem with a radius is that the UAE does not have one school system. It has five regulators, and which one holds your child's file depends on the emirate you live in rather than the curriculum the school teaches. Dubai's private schools answer to the Knowledge and Human Development Authority. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain answer to the Department of Education and Knowledge. Sharjah has the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah has its Department of Knowledge, and the federal Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Move thirty minutes up Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road and the inspection framework, the fee-approval route and the published report all change hands.

There is a third problem, and it is the one that surprises families most. The closest qualified adult to your child is usually their own subject teacher at school. That is the one person who, on the published position, may not take the work. Gulf News has reported that the Department of Education and Knowledge's professional-ethics rules bar private and charter school staff in Abu Dhabi from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and that the MoHRE private tuition work permit carries a code of conduct with the same restriction. Verify the current wording with the authority or the school before relying on it, but plan on the basis that it holds.

So here is what IB Gram actually does, in plain words, before you read another section. Tuition for UAE families is delivered online, one-to-one, over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time. We do not arrange home visits anywhere in the Emirates; that service exists only in India. There is no UAE office to drive to. The first session is a free 45-minute trial lesson, taken before any payment, so you judge the teaching rather than a profile. Coursework help is feedback and questioning on work the student has written; nobody here writes an Internal Assessment, an Extended Essay or a Theory of Knowledge essay.

This page is built for the parent who has already searched IB tutor near me in the UAE and wants the part the map leaves out: who is legally permitted to teach your child, what the market charges once travel is stripped out of the fee, how much of an evening a visiting tutor really consumes, which authority to ask for a school's inspection report, what Arabic and Islamic Education add to the week, when exam entries close, and what the Ministry of Education wants on file after the Diploma finishes. Every figure below is attributed to the body or the publication it came from.

At a glance

  • Five authorities regulate UAE private schools; the emirate, not the curriculum, decides which one
  • The private tuition work permit comes from MoHRE and is granted free of charge for two years
  • Cambridge allocates every exam centre to one of six administrative zones with its own timetable
  • Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies run alongside an IB timetable, not instead of it
  • Published UAE market rates run roughly AED 45 to AED 650 an hour depending on tier and format
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

IB Gram covers the three mainstream IB programmes plus the Career-related Programme. What changes between them is not only the content but what the regulator in your emirate requires alongside it, and how much of the final grade sits in work marked inside the school.

PYPAges 3-12 · Pre-KG to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

The Primary Years Programme has no external examination, which makes it the stage where a proximity search misleads most. Nothing is riding on a paper, so families often wait. What is actually forming is the number sense, reading stamina and written explanation that Middle Years assessment will test two years later. Useful tuition at this stage is short, frequent and diagnostic: find the gap in place value or fractions, close it, and move on. Sessions run 30 to 45 minutes because attention, not timetable, is the limit.

In Dubai, KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies in every private school from the primary years regardless of the licensed international curriculum, with separate classes organised for Arab and non-Arab students. A PYP family is therefore running two curricula at once from the start, and the Arabic strand is the one most often left unsupported until it becomes a Middle Years problem.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

The Middle Years Programme marks against four criteria per subject, each lettered A to D and each with its own mark band, and the descriptors reward explanation and reflection as much as the right answer. Students who have been scoring well on content alone lose marks here for the first time and cannot see why. Tuition works best when it is aimed at a criterion rather than a topic: take the task the school has set, read the descriptor out loud, and rebuild the response against it.

Middle Years students in the UAE sit inside a school that is inspected on attainment and progress against both the programme standards and the emirate's own framework, whether that is a KHDA inspection rating in Dubai or an ADEK school rating in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. A Good or Very Good overall judgement is an average across the school, so it can sit comfortably on top of one department that cannot staff a subject properly.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

The Diploma is where the geography of tutoring breaks down completely. A student takes three subjects at Higher Level and three at Standard, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Each subject carries an Internal Assessment marked in school and moderated externally. Finding someone nearby who has taught one of those six subjects is plausible. Finding someone nearby who has taught the specific Higher Level option your child's school chose, and marked its Internal Assessment, is mostly luck.

UAE Diploma families carry an extra piece of administration no local search surfaces: the Ministry of Education equivalency file that converts a Diploma into a UAE-recognised secondary certificate for local university applications. The Ministry publishes explicit subject-and-grade rules for the British and American tracks. For the IB there is no points figure we are willing to print without reading it on moe.gov.ae, so treat any site that quotes one with scepticism and check the Ministry's own page.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

The Career-related Programme pairs two or more Diploma courses with a career-related study, a reflective project, a service-learning requirement and language development. It is offered by relatively few UAE schools, which makes the local tutor pool for its specific components very thin indeed. The Diploma courses inside it are marked exactly as they are for a full Diploma candidate, so the subject teaching is identical; the reflective project is where students need process coaching rather than content.

Because few schools in the Emirates run it, a Career-related Programme family searching locally will often find nobody who has seen the reflective project assessment criteria at all. This is the clearest case for a national rather than a neighbourhood pool, and it is also the case where you should ask the Ministry of Education directly about equivalency rather than assume the Diploma rules transfer.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the subjects UAE families ask for most, written as what the component actually demands rather than as a list of topics. Where a subject appears below with Higher Level named, the scarcity of a local specialist is the whole reason this page exists.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Proof, calculus and algebraic fluency carry the Higher Level paper, and the exploration is marked on criteria that reward genuine mathematical reasoning over presentation. Marks go missing in Paper 1 where no calculator is allowed and partial working is not shown. Students who arrived from a Middle Years course that leaned on a graphical display calculator feel this immediately.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Statistics, modelling and technology-assisted problem solving dominate. The route is often chosen late and for the wrong reason. Before switching, check the published entry requirements of the specific university courses your child is aiming at, because some engineering and economics programmes name Analysis and Approaches. That check belongs in Year 11, not in the February of Year 13.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Organic mechanisms, energetics and equilibrium account for most of the lost marks, and the scientific investigation is where able students most often underperform because the research question is too broad to control. The Higher Level extension topics are the single hardest thing to staff locally; this is the subject families most often cannot cover inside a driving radius.

Physics

HL and SL

Fields, circular motion and the unit-two mechanics work reward students who can convert a described situation into a free-body diagram quickly. Data analysis questions carry marks for uncertainty treatment that students skip under time pressure. Online lessons handle this well because the worked solution is built on a shared screen and stays available afterwards.

Biology

HL and SL

Command terms decide the mark here more than in any other science. Explain, outline, suggest and evaluate each have a defined expectation, and a correct biological fact written against the wrong command term scores nothing. Tuition that drills the command term against the subject guide wording moves grades faster than more content revision.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy, real-world application and the evaluation paragraph are the three marks students leave behind. The internal assessment commentaries must be built on recent news articles and kept inside a strict word limit, and the most common failure is a commentary that summarises the article instead of applying a named diagram to it.

Business Management

HL and SL

The case study paper rewards students who read the stimulus material as evidence rather than as background, and the Higher Level extension requires quantitative tools many candidates meet for the first time in Year 13. The project is marked on the quality of the research question and the use of primary or secondary data, not on the length of the appendix.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

The individual oral and the paper on unseen non-literary texts are where UAE candidates with strong written English still lose marks, because both are assessed on close analysis of technique rather than on fluency. Preparation means repeated timed practice on unseen extracts with feedback on the analytical move, not on the vocabulary.

Arabic B and Arabic ab initio

HL, SL and ab initio

Arabic sits in two places for a UAE family at once: as an IB language acquisition subject with its own assessment, and as a Ministry-mandated school subject with its own class organisation and language-of-instruction rules. The two are marked differently and taught differently, and conflating them is the usual reason a strong student is doing badly in one of them.

Geography

HL and SL

Case-study recall decides the extended-response marks, and most candidates carry too many cases at too shallow a depth. The fieldwork-based internal assessment needs a question narrow enough to collect real data against, which is harder in the Emirates than in the textbook examples and is worth planning with a specialist early.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Four ways families use online one-to-one tuition, chosen by what is actually going wrong rather than by a package name. All four run over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and all four start with the same free trial lesson.

Weekly one-to-one, same slot

One subject, one tutor, the same time every week, booked around the school run rather than around a drive. The session follows your child's own school deadlines: the test on Thursday, the draft due at the end of the month, the topic the class is on now. A short written note after each lesson records what was covered and what to practise before the next one.

  • 60 minutes, or 45 for younger students
  • Slot fixed for the term, not rebooked weekly
  • Written note after every session
  • Shared screen and worked solutions kept on file

Pre-session intensive block

A fixed block of sessions in the weeks before mocks or a live exam series, aimed at papers rather than at the syllabus. Past-paper questions are attempted under timed conditions by the student first, then marked and rebuilt against the published criteria. We reference official papers and mark schemes and link to the board's own site rather than redistributing them.

  • Two or three sessions a week for a defined number of weeks
  • Timed attempts before the lesson, feedback during it
  • Component-by-component mark analysis
  • Stops when the block ends, with no rollover

Coursework feedback clinic

For the Internal Assessment, the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge. The student brings their own draft and their school's deadline. The tutor reads it, asks questions, points at the criterion that is not being met and explains what the descriptor is asking for. The student then rewrites it. Nobody writes, rewrites or completes any part of the work.

  • Student's own draft only, never a supplied exemplar to copy
  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback against the published descriptors
  • Research question and methodology coaching before writing starts
  • Your school's internal deadlines drive the schedule

Two subjects in one evening

Two related subjects, two specialists, back to back on the same evening, so the household gives up one slot instead of two. This is the arrangement that proximity cannot produce: two different subject specialists would almost never live in the same radius, and online scheduling makes the pairing trivial.

  • Common pairings: Maths with Physics, Chemistry with Biology
  • Separate specialists, one evening, one disruption
  • Notes from both sessions sent together
  • Either subject can be paused without losing the other slot

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in the UAE

01

What a search for an IB tutor near me actually returns

A map result set is built from one input: a pin inside the area your screen is showing. Everything a parent actually wants to know sits outside that input. Whether the person has taught the Diploma rather than a national curriculum. Whether they have taught the subject at Higher Level rather than Standard. Whether they have ever marked the component your child is losing marks on. Whether they hold the permit the UAE requires. None of that is in the ranking signal, and none of it is in the distance.

The result set also reflects who has done the local marketing rather than who can teach. Agency pages built for a district name rank for that district name. A tuition centre with premises ranks because it has an address to verify. An independent teacher with fifteen years of Diploma Chemistry and no website does not appear at all. So the parent who searches IB tuition near me is reading a map of marketing spend, and reading it as a map of teaching quality.

The honest version is simpler. Proximity is only worth paying for if the thing you are buying has to be physically present. A violin lesson arguably does. A Mathematics exploration conversation does not: it needs a screen with the student's own working on it, a tutor who knows what criterion C is asking for, and an hour nobody has spent in a car. The table below takes the five searches UAE parents actually type and sets out what each one returns, what it leaves out and the question that would have produced a better answer.

The nearest qualified adult is often the one person who may not take the work

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit, not left to the market. The private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is issued through MoHRE, and it is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. Anyone offering private tutoring without that permit is, in the Ministry's own words, subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so no figure appears on this page.

That eligibility list is where proximity collapses. The closest adult who already knows your child's syllabus, your child's teacher, and your child's actual weakness is their own subject teacher at school. Gulf News has reported that ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar private and charter school staff in Abu Dhabi from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and that the MoHRE permit's code of conduct carries the same restriction on serving students affiliated with their own school. We treat that as press-reported rather than as a quotation of policy, and any family relying on it should check the current ADEK document or ask the school directly.

Two practical consequences follow for a parent. First, never let a conversation start with the idea of hiring your child's own teacher privately, however convenient the drive. Second, the one checkable credential in this market is the MoHRE private tuition work permit, and asking for it costs nothing. A tutor who holds it will show it. A tutor who deflects has told you something useful. The table sets out each category of person who might teach your child, where their permit comes from and what a parent can realistically verify.

Your address decides your regulator, and the regulator decides what you can ask for

Parents often assume the curriculum determines the oversight. It does not. The emirate does. A KHDA inspection rating covers a Dubai school whatever curriculum it teaches, and an ADEK school rating covers an Abu Dhabi or Al Ain one on a different framework. Sharjah's authority and Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge go further than inspection: both approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. In Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah the federal Ministry of Education supervises private schools directly.

This matters to a tutoring decision in two concrete ways. It tells you where the inspection report lives, which is the single most useful free document a parent can read before spending anything. And it tells you who approved the fee schedule and the assessment arrangements, which is who to ask when the school's answer does not satisfy you. Across the competitor pages reviewed for this page, ADEK was named by nobody at all and Sharjah's authority appeared once, which is a fair measure of how little of this reaches parents.

Read the report at subject level, not at headline level. An overall judgement is an average across phases and departments. A school rated Very Good can hold one department that lost two specialists in August and is being covered by a generalist until January, and that is precisely the situation a parent diagnoses from the subject tables in the report rather than from the front page. The federal baseline sits underneath all of it: private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, but must adhere to the Ministry's general regulations.

Distance to a tutor is not distance to a Higher Level specialist

  • Chemistry HL: the extension topics and a scientific investigation narrow enough to control
  • Mathematics AA HL: proof and the non-calculator paper, plus an exploration with real mathematics in it
  • Physics HL: fields and the uncertainty marks candidates skip under time pressure
  • Economics HL: the quantitative extension and commentaries that apply a diagram rather than summarise an article
  • Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay: supervision capacity, not subject knowledge, is the constraint
  • Career-related Programme reflective project: very few schools in the Emirates run it at all

A Diploma student takes six subjects, three of them at Higher Level, and the Higher Level extension material is where the grade is decided. The pool of adults who have taught that extension material, for that subject, and marked its Internal Assessment, is small in absolute terms anywhere in the world. Restricting it to a thirty-minute drive from a specific UAE address usually reduces it to zero, and a parent who does not know that reads the empty result as absence of need rather than absence of supply.

What happens next is predictable. The family hires the nearest available person who teaches the subject at any level, because the alternative looks like doing nothing. The sessions are pleasant, the content is revised, and the Higher Level paper still goes badly, because nobody in the room had seen the extension topics under exam conditions. This is the most common tutoring failure UAE families describe to us, and it is a supply problem dressed up as a motivation problem.

An IB Higher Level tutor online solves it by changing the search space rather than the search term. A family in Al Ain, Ras Al Khaimah or Fujairah gets the same pool as a family in Jumeirah. An IB Diploma tutor near me is a question about roads; a specialist in the component your child is losing marks on is a question about who has taught it. The list below is where we see local searches run out first, with the question to put to your school's IB coordinator before you spend anything.

05

What the UAE market charges, and how much of it is the car

Three of the six most visible competitor pages in this market publish no price at all, and two of the three that do quote in US dollars, a currency UAE families do not transact in. So here are the published AED bands, with the kind of provider that publishes each one and the date they were read. These are market rates, not an IB Gram price list. What IB Gram quotes depends on subject, level and session length, and it starts with a free trial lesson rather than a rate card you have to decode.

Read the bands as a function of two things: who is teaching, and what else is inside the fee. A university student working online sits at the bottom. A subject specialist who has taught the Diploma for a decade sits in the middle. A named examiner-led service sits at the top. The in-home band sits high for a reason that has nothing to do with teaching quality: the fee is carrying a car, a driver's hour and a fuel cost, and the parent is paying for all three at the teaching rate.

Monthly packages seen in this market run around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, and roughly AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. Bestimate's published monthly estimates for one weekly hour run AED 240 to 600 at the budget tier, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Set that against the KHDA confirmation of 22 May 2026 that private school fees would not rise in Dubai for 2026-27, and tuition is the part of the education budget still moving.

The hidden hour: what a visiting tutor costs in evening minutes

Cost in this market is usually discussed as a rate and almost never as time. That is the wrong unit for a school night. A UAE secondary student finishes the school run somewhere between half past three and half past five depending on the emirate and the bus route, needs food, and has homework the school set that day. The question is not what an hour costs. The question is how many of the remaining usable minutes the arrangement consumes, and how many of those minutes are teaching.

Do the arithmetic once and it settles the format argument without any marketing in it. Take a 60-minute lesson with a tutor who lives ten minutes away and arrives at six. Add the doorstep, the settling, the drink, the small talk with a parent and the pack-up: the household has given up roughly eighty minutes to buy sixty. Now move that tutor across a city in the five-to-seven window. The hour is unchanged, the arrival time is not, and a slot that drifts week to week is the slot that eventually gets cancelled.

Live video costs about sixty-five minutes of the evening for sixty minutes of teaching, and the five are spent logging in. It also produces artefacts a visit does not: a shared screen with the student's own working annotated on it, a worked solution that stays on file, and a recording of the explanation they can replay the night before the test. None of that is an argument that screens are warmer than rooms. It is an argument about where the minutes go.

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies: the timetable nobody searches for

Every UAE family running an international curriculum is actually running two. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in Dubai's private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA's requirements had to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year, or April 2026 for schools whose year begins in April. The federal position sits underneath that: private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, but must adhere to the Ministry's general regulations.

The rules are more specific than most parents realise, and they constrain tutoring directly. KHDA requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and states that combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because of the different curriculum expectations and language of instruction. Standard Arabic must be the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arab students and for Arabic as a first language; Social Studies is delivered in Arabic for Arab students; non-Arab students take Islamic Education and Moral, Social and Cultural studies in the school's licensed-curriculum language.

Two further details matter. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, schools may vary lesson length as long as the total weekly time is met, and it is advised that any mandatory-subject lesson runs at least 25 minutes. And for these subjects the use of any different or additional content, without prior permission from the Ministry of Education, is strictly prohibited. That last line is why a tutor supporting Arabic or Islamic Education should be working from the school's own prescribed material and the student's own set work, not from an imported workbook.

The exam timetable your postcode sits inside

Here is a geography fact about examinations that no local search will ever surface. Cambridge International allocates every exam centre to one of six administrative zones, each with its own version of the timetable, and the guidance to exams officers is blunt: it is essential to use the correct version for your zone, and Cambridge cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after the wrong zone timetable was used. Your child's paper time is therefore a function of where the centre sits, which is the one sense in which near me genuinely decides something.

The second thing nobody tells parents is how far in front of the paper the real deadlines fall. Take the Cambridge March 2027 series as the worked example, because its key dates are published. The exam period runs 3 February to 4 March 2027. Final entries were due on 27 November 2026, more than two months before the first paper. Forecast grades are due 27 February 2027, results reach centres on Direct on 13 May and certificates follow in late June. A family that starts looking for support in February is looking after the entry decision has already been made.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSEs run in May/June and November, with the November 2026 final timetable running from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August; November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so always open the live official PDF rather than trusting a restated date. For the IB we publish no session or results date here: ibo.org blocks automated checking, so confirm every IB date with your school's IB coordinator or on ibo.org itself.

Academic honesty does not change with distance

  • May do: teach the skill, model a parallel problem, question the draft, explain the descriptor
  • May not do: write, rewrite to final form, supply an exemplar to adapt, or generate the data
  • Materials are cited and linked, never redistributed as downloads
  • The student's name on the work means the student wrote the work

There is a part of this market that sells completed Internal Assessments. One site found during the research for these pages advertises them at a fixed price. Buying one puts a student's entire Diploma at risk, because submitting work that is not their own is malpractice under IB rules and the consequence falls on the candidate, not the vendor. No proximity, convenience or price argument survives that. It is worth saying plainly on a page about finding a tutor, because the same search results contain both kinds of provider and they look alike from outside.

So here is the boundary IB Gram works to, in operational terms. A tutor may teach the underlying skill, explain what a criterion is asking for, model a different problem of the same type, ask the questions a supervisor would ask, read the student's own draft and say which descriptor it is not meeting, and help plan a research question that can actually be answered. A tutor may not write any part of the work, rewrite a passage into its final form, supply a near-match exemplar to be adapted, or produce data the student did not collect. IB Internal Assessment feedback means feedback, and it is given on the student's own writing.

The same restraint applies to materials. We reference IB, Cambridge and Pearson syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and subject guides by citing them and linking to the official site; we do not reproduce or distribute them. A tutor who offers you a folder of mark schemes, a bank of completed exemplars or a topic-matched essay to work from is offering something that is either a copyright problem or an honesty problem, and often both. Ask the question directly at the trial lesson and listen to how fast the answer comes.

Ministry of Education equivalency, and the one number nobody should publish

Equivalency is the process that converts an international school certificate into a UAE-recognised one, and it is the piece of administration that most often surprises a family in the final year. The Ministry publishes explicit requirements for the British and American tracks. On the British track, a student must show five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus either one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade no lower than E or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade.

One detail in that rule is worth reading twice, because a ranking competitor page gets it wrong: Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects for the GCSE and IGCSE count. A site telling UAE candidates they must take six IGCSE subjects is publishing an inflated figure. On the American track, English proficiency is demonstrated by a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying.

For MoE equivalency for IB students there is no points figure on this page, and you should be wary of any page that gives you one. The source we read for the British and American tracks states no IB threshold, so printing one would be an invention. Check moe.gov.ae or the emirate's attestation authority directly. Equivalency is also not something IB Gram performs, submits or influences, and no amount of tutoring is required for it. Tuition is for the grades; the paperwork is a separate administrative track with its own official channel.

Where we tutor

What "near me" means in each emirate

The same search produces a different result in each emirate, because the regulator, the school density and the realistic travel radius all change. Below is what a family in each place is actually working with, and which authority holds the school's file.

Dubai

Regulated by KHDA, which published 227 private schools and 17 curricula for 2024-25 and confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees would not rise for 2026-27. Highest school density in the country, so a local search returns the most results and the least filtering: plenty of generalists, few Higher Level specialists.

Abu Dhabi

Regulated by ADEK, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. Distances between Khalifa City, the island and Al Reem mean an evening slot that works in September drifts by November, which is the practical argument against a tutor who has to drive at all.

Al Ain

Also ADEK territory, with a smaller IB school cluster than the coast. A family here searching for a Higher Level subject specialist within a sensible radius will frequently find nobody at all, and the fallback is usually a generalist who has not taught the component.

Sharjah

Regulated by the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Many families live here and commute to a Dubai school, so the usable session window starts late and prayer times shape the evening.

Ajman

Private schools here are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education rather than an emirate-level authority. The local IB pool is small enough that proximity stops being a useful filter entirely, and the commute to a Dubai or Sharjah school already consumes the early evening.

Ras Al Khaimah

Private education is regulated by the emirate's Department of Knowledge, which also approves fees, curricula and assessment methods. RAK is one of three emirates that returned zero mentions across the competitor pages reviewed for this page, which tells you how thin local coverage of these searches is.

Fujairah

Supervised by the Ministry of Education. On the east coast, a search radius wide enough to include a subject specialist would include a mountain road, which is the clearest illustration on this page that distance and teaching quality are unrelated variables.

Umm Al Quwain

Also under Ministry of Education supervision. The smallest private-school market in the country, and the place where an online pool changes the answer most: the question moves from who is available here to who has taught this syllabus anywhere.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in the UAE

Dubai

The densest IB and IGCSE cluster in the Emirates, which is why Dubai families most often assume proximity solves the problem. Students we support attend schools across the city, and the pattern we see is a strong school with one department that cannot cover a Higher Level option in the year it is needed.

  • Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills
  • GEMS World Academy Dubai
  • Deira International School
  • Dubai English Speaking College
  • Repton School Dubai
  • Jumeirah College

Abu Dhabi and Al Ain

ADEK territory, with the IB and British clusters spread across the island, Khalifa City and Al Raha. Travel between them in the early evening is the reason families here move to live video first. Al Ain's smaller cluster means a subject-level specialist is rarely available locally at all.

  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • Raha International School
  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi
  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • Brighton College Abu Dhabi

Sharjah and the northern emirates

Three different regulatory arrangements sit inside this cluster: SPEA in Sharjah, the Department of Knowledge in Ras Al Khaimah, and the Ministry of Education in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Families often commute south to a Dubai school, which compresses the usable tuition window into a narrow evening slot.

  • Victoria International School of Sharjah
  • The Millennium School Sharjah
  • Delhi Private School Sharjah
  • RAK Academy
  • Our Own English High School Fujairah

Schools are named to describe the system UAE families work inside. IB Gram has no affiliation with, and claims no endorsement from, any school, group or authority named on this page.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the subject, the level and the component

Not the year group and not the postcode. The useful version is specific: Chemistry Higher Level, losing marks on energetics, scientific investigation due in six weeks, school uses the Cambridge pathway for the sibling in Year 11. That sentence is enough to match a specialist. A district name is not, which is the whole argument of this page.

  2. 02

    Take the free trial lesson

One 45-minute session over live video, before any payment and with no card details taken. Use it to watch the teaching rather than to read a profile: does the tutor diagnose, or just explain? Do they know what the criterion is asking for? Ask them directly what they will and will not do with a coursework draft.

  3. 03

Agree a plan against your school's dates

Your child's school sets the deadlines that matter: the mock window, the internal assessment submission, the entry deadline the exams officer is working to. The plan is written against those dates, not against a generic term structure, and the exam board's own timetable PDF is the reference rather than a date restated on a website.

  4. 04

Weekly sessions, with a written note after each

Same tutor, same slot, on Gulf Standard Time. After each session a short note records what was covered, what the student got wrong and what to practise before the next one. If the match is not working, say so and we move you; a tutor nobody clicked with is a worse outcome than a tutor nobody could reach.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched by syllabus, not by radius

The filter is which board, which level and which component your child is losing marks on. A family in Fujairah or Al Ain gets the same pool as a family in Jumeirah, because the pool is not drawn as a circle on a map. That is the only real advantage online delivery has, and it is a large one at Higher Level.

The delivery model stated before you ask

Lessons are live video, one-to-one, on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not arrange home visits anywhere in the Emirates and holds no UAE office or centre; home tutoring is a service we run in India only. Several pages in this market conceal non-UAE delivery behind a foreign phone number, which is a trust failure we would rather avoid by saying it first.

Coursework support that keeps the work the student's

Feedback, questioning and criterion-level explanation on a draft the student wrote. No writing, no rewriting to final form, no exemplar supplied to be adapted. In a market where completed Internal Assessments are sold openly, being explicit about the boundary is more useful to a parent than another sentence about quality.

Figures attributed, or left out

Every AED band on this page is the market's, with the kind of provider that published it and the month it was read. The regulatory lines are quoted from u.ae, KHDA and MoHRE. Where a number is not verifiable, such as an IB session date or an IB equivalency threshold, it is absent rather than estimated.

Coverage limits disclosed, not hidden

Some subject and level combinations have no specialist free in the window a family wants. We say so, give a realistic timeframe, and suggest the nearest sensible alternative, which is sometimes a different component focus rather than a different tutor. No competitor page reviewed for this project discloses a coverage limit at all.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in the UAE: your questions answered

What does searching for an IB tutor near me actually return in the UAE?+

A map of who has a business pin inside the area your screen is showing, ranked largely by local marketing rather than teaching record. It cannot tell you whether anyone in that set has taught your child's subject at Higher Level, marked the component losing marks, or holds the MoHRE private tuition work permit. It also silently excludes experienced teachers without a website. The more useful questions are which board and level someone has taught, which papers they have marked, and what time a session can realistically start on a school night during term.

Is the closest tutor to our address the right one for Higher Level Chemistry?+

Rarely, and the reason is supply rather than quality. The number of people who have taught the Higher Level extension topics and marked a scientific investigation is small anywhere. Restricting that pool to a thirty-minute drive from one UAE address often reduces it to nobody. Families then hire the nearest person who teaches Chemistry at any level, revise content pleasantly for months, and still find the Higher Level paper goes badly, because nobody in the room had seen the extension material under exam conditions. Widening the pool, not the radius, is what fixes it.

Can my child's own subject teacher tutor her privately after school?+

Plan on no. Gulf News has reported that ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar private and charter school staff in Abu Dhabi from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and that the MoHRE private tuition work permit carries a code of conduct with the same restriction on serving students affiliated with their own school. We treat that as press-reported rather than as a quotation of policy, so confirm the current wording with ADEK or ask the school directly. Either way, do not make the nearest convenient arrangement the one that puts a teacher's position at risk.

Which authority holds my child's school file, and how does that change my choices?+

The emirate decides, not the curriculum. Dubai schools answer to KHDA, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain to ADEK, Sharjah to the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah to its Department of Knowledge, and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah to the federal Ministry of Education. That tells you where the inspection report lives, which is the most useful free document available to a parent before spending anything. In Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah the authority also approves fees, curricula, courses and assessment methods, so there is somewhere to ask when the school's answer is unsatisfying.

How do I check that a tutor has the MoHRE private tuition work permit?+

Ask to see it, and ask when it was issued. The permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and MoHRE's own service page is titled Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system with a two-working-day completion time. Because it costs nothing, there is no financial excuse for not holding one. Anyone tutoring without it is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no schedule of amounts is published, so treat any quoted figure with caution.

What do UAE families pay per hour, and how much of that is travel?+

Published market rates run roughly AED 33 to 150 for budget online tutoring, AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online subject tutor, AED 180 to 500 for a visiting tutor in the home, AED 200 to 450 and above for an IB or IGCSE specialist, and up to AED 650 for a premium named service. Those bands were read in October 2026 from providers' own pages and from Bestimate's Dubai cost table. The in-home band sits high largely because the fee carries a car, a driver's hour and fuel, all billed at the teaching rate.

We live in Ras Al Khaimah. Does distance from Dubai limit the subjects available?+

Under a proximity model, severely. Ras Al Khaimah has a small private-school market, its own Department of Knowledge as the regulator, and it was one of three emirates that returned no mentions at all across the competitor pages reviewed for this page. A local search for a Higher Level specialist will often return nobody. With live video the question changes from who is available in the northern emirates to who has taught this syllabus anywhere, and the answer stops depending on the drive down Emirates Road.

How many minutes of an evening does a visiting tutor actually use?+

More than the hour you are paying for. A tutor living ten minutes away and arriving at six typically costs the household about eighty minutes once the doorstep, the settling, the drink and the pack-up are counted, to buy sixty minutes of teaching. Move that journey into the five-to-seven window and the hour is unchanged but the arrival time is not, so the slot drifts week to week. Live video costs around sixty-five minutes for the same sixty, and the annotated working and worked solutions stay on file afterwards.

Do Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies still run beside the IB Diploma?+

Yes. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in Dubai's private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA's requirements had to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year, or April 2026 where the school year begins in April. The federal baseline is the same: private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, but must adhere to the Ministry's general regulations. In practice your child is running two curricula at once, and the Arabic strand is the one most often left unsupported.

Can a tutor use my child's school's own Arabic worksheets in a session?+

Working from the school's prescribed material and your child's own set tasks is the right approach, and it is also the compliant one. KHDA's mandatory-subject guidance states that for these subjects the use of any different or additional content, without prior permission from the Ministry of Education, is strictly prohibited. So a tutor importing an unrelated workbook is not helping. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, schools may vary lesson length provided total weekly time is met, and the guidance advises at least 25 minutes for any mandatory-subject lesson.

What paperwork does the Ministry of Education want after the Diploma finishes?+

Equivalency converts an international certificate into a UAE-recognised one. For the British track the published rule is five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3, plus either one Advanced Level subject at no less than E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade, and Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five. For the IB we publish no points figure, because the source we read states none; check moe.gov.ae or your emirate's attestation authority directly. Equivalency is not something IB Gram performs, and tuition is not required for it.

What is a tutor allowed to do with a draft of the Extended Essay?+

Read it, question it, and explain which criterion it is not yet meeting. A tutor may help shape a research question that can actually be answered, model how a comparable argument is built, and point out where evidence is asserted rather than shown. A tutor may not write any part of it, rewrite a passage into its final form, supply a near-match exemplar to adapt, or produce data the student did not collect. Submitting work that is not the student's own is malpractice under IB rules, and the consequence falls on the candidate.

When should an IGCSE entry be made, and who makes it?+

Your school, acting as the exam centre, and far earlier than most families expect. Cambridge's published key dates for the March 2027 series put final entries on 27 November 2026 against an exam period of 3 February to 4 March 2027, with forecast grades due 27 February and results on Direct on 13 May. Pearson Edexcel International GCSEs run in May/June and November, with the November 2026 final timetable ending 19 November 2026. Always open the board's live official timetable rather than a restated date, since provisional timetables are revised.

How does a live video lesson handle a Physics practical write-up?+

The practical work itself happens in the school laboratory, as it must. What a tutor works on is everything around it: the research question, the control of variables, the uncertainty treatment, the graph choice and the evaluation paragraph, which is where most of the available marks are actually lost. Over video the student's own write-up sits on a shared screen and is annotated live, so the feedback attaches to their words rather than being described in the abstract. The annotated version and the worked example stay available afterwards.

Our school is rated Good. Does that mean every subject is taught well?+

No, and this is the most common misreading of a KHDA inspection rating or an ADEK school rating. An overall judgement is an average across phases and departments. A well-run school can still hold one department that lost two specialists in August and is being covered by a generalist until January. Read the subject-level tables in the published report rather than the headline band, and ask the school directly who is teaching the Higher Level group this year. That single question is more informative than any rating.

What happens when nobody in the UAE covers my child's subject combination?+

We tell you, with a realistic timeframe, rather than filling the slot with whoever is free. Some combinations are genuinely thin: a Career-related Programme reflective project, a minority language at Higher Level, or an unusual option within a science. Sometimes the better answer is a different focus with an available specialist, such as exam technique with a subject teacher rather than content with nobody. No competitor page reviewed during the research for this page discloses a coverage limit at all, which is precisely why stating one is worth doing.

Stop measuring the distance, start checking the permit and the component

If you take three things from this page, take these. Ask any tutor for the MoHRE private tuition work permit, because it is free, it is checkable, and it costs you nothing to request. Read your child's school inspection report at subject level, from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Department of Knowledge or the Ministry of Education depending on where you live. And describe the problem by component rather than by location: Chemistry Higher Level energetics, not a district name. Then take the free 45-minute trial lesson and judge the teaching. Lessons run live online, one-to-one, on Gulf Standard Time, which is why your address decides nothing about the tutor you get.
