Edexcel IGCSE Tutor in Dubai

An Edexcel IGCSE tutor in Dubai is only useful if they know the code your child is entered for. 4MA1 is tiered and 4PH1 is not; 4EA1 has a coursework route and Cambridge has none. Every lesson here runs one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time, so a Dubai student works with a specialist in their exact specification rather than whoever is free in the neighbourhood.

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

Start with the code, not the subject name

Most Dubai parents searching for an Edexcel IGCSE tutor describe the subject: maths, physics, English. The exam board describes something narrower. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A carries the code 4MA1 and is sat in two tiers. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Physics is 4PH1 and has no tiers at all. English Language A is 4EA1 and offers a coursework alternative to one written paper, which Cambridge's equivalent does not. Those are not trivia. They decide which grades are reachable, which papers are worth practising, and whether a piece of written work your child does at home counts towards the final mark.

The first thing to find, then, is the exam-entry statement your child's school issues. It lists each subject with its Pearson code and, for a tiered subject, the tier entered. A school in Al Barsha may enter Mathematics A at Higher while a school in Mirdif enters the same student at Foundation; the teaching that follows is different in content, pace and ceiling. A tutor who starts work without that sheet is guessing, and a term of guessing is expensive in a way that shows up only in May.

Dubai makes this more common than it would be in London. KHDA inspected 227 private schools in the emirate in 2024-25, serving 387,441 students across 17 different licensed curricula, with the UK curriculum the largest single group by enrolment. Families move between those schools mid-course far more often than they would at home, and a move can change exam board as well as uniform. A child who spent Year 10 on Cambridge 0580 and arrives in Year 11 on Pearson 4MA1 has met most of the content and almost none of the paper conventions.

What a specification-literate tutor does first is unglamorous. They read the entry statement, pull the current Pearson specification and sample assessment material from qualifications.pearson.com, and check the student's last two school assessments against the actual mark scheme rather than the teacher's percentage. That exercise usually relocates the problem. A student described as weak at physics turns out to lose nine marks across a paper on six-mark extended-response questions and two marks on everything else, which is a writing problem with a physics label on it.

Delivery is online, one-to-one, over live video, on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not run in-person tutoring in Dubai, and home visits in the UAE are not part of what we sell: that is an India-only service. The reason is practical rather than ideological. There are only so many people within a twenty-minute drive of Jumeirah who can teach 4CH1 organic chemistry properly, and the live-video format replaces that constraint with a different one — find the specialist, book them at 18:00 Dubai time, keep the same tutor through to the series.

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

An Edexcel IGCSE tutor in Dubai is usually brought in at one of four points: the Key Stage 3 years where the gap opens quietly, the two IGCSE years themselves, the International A Level route that follows, or the IB Diploma route that a British-curriculum Dubai school often offers alongside it.

KS3Ages 11-14 · Years 7-9

Lower Secondary (Key Stage 3)

The three years before the IGCSE course begins. No external exam sits at the end, which is exactly why gaps survive here: negative indices, rearranging formulae, balancing equations and paragraph structure are all taught once in Year 8 and assumed forever afterwards. Work at this stage is cheap in hours and expensive to skip, because every one of those skills is load-bearing in a 4MA1 or 4CH1 paper two years later.

Dubai's British-curriculum schools stream for maths from Year 8 or Year 9 in many cases, and that streaming decision is frequently what determines whether a student is later entered for Foundation or Higher tier at 4MA1. Families who only discover tiering in Year 11 are reacting to a decision made three years earlier. Checking the set your child is in, and what it implies for tier, is a ten-minute conversation with the head of maths.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

The two-year course assessed at the end, graded 9-1, with a separate code for every subject. Most Dubai students take eight to ten subjects. Pearson's International GCSE is designed for international centres, which is why it is untimetabled against UK GCSE and why its November series exists. Assessment is almost entirely by written paper, with a small number of subjects offering a coursework component as an alternative.

In Dubai the practical consequence is scheduling. A student taking ten subjects across the May/June series sits something close to twenty papers in four weeks, against a school calendar that already includes Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies as mandatory subjects under KHDA rules. The revision plan that works is one built backwards from the actual paper order, which the school's exams officer publishes once Pearson's final timetable is out.

IALAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

International A Level

The two-year route most Dubai Edexcel students continue into. Pearson's International A Level is modular in structure, assessed in units that can be sat across sittings, which changes revision planning completely compared with a terminal course. Students who learned to cram for one terminal series often mismanage the first unit sitting, because the unit arrives much earlier than they expect.

The subject choice made at the end of Year 11 is partly decided by the IGCSE grade profile and partly by what the Dubai school can staff. A school may run Edexcel International A Level Mathematics but not Further Mathematics, or Chemistry but not Biology in a given cohort. Students in that position sometimes sit a unit as a private candidate, which is a logistical exercise worth starting early with the exams officer.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

The other post-16 route, offered by a sizeable group of Dubai schools alongside or instead of A Levels. The Diploma asks for six subjects, Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. For a student coming out of Pearson International GCSEs, the hardest adjustment is not content but the internally assessed work, which has no equivalent in most 4-series specifications.

Dubai is one of the few cities where a family genuinely chooses between the two at sixteen, sometimes within the same school group. The IGCSE grade profile informs it: strong, even grades across nine subjects suit the Diploma's breadth, while a sharply peaked profile in three subjects often suits A Levels. Neither route is harder in the abstract, and no tutor should tell you otherwise without seeing the grades.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the Pearson Edexcel International GCSE subjects Dubai families most often ask about, with the code, the structure and the place marks are usually lost. Confirm every code against your child's own entry statement, because Pearson publishes more than one specification in several of these subjects.

Mathematics A (4MA1)

Foundation and Higher tier

Two papers, each two hours and 100 marks, weighted equally. Foundation tier reaches grade 5; Higher tier runs 9 to 4 with an allowed 3. Marks go missing on multi-step problems where method marks are available but no working is shown, and on the last three questions of Paper 2, which most students never reach in a timed run.

Physics (4PH1)

Single tier, 9-1

Paper 1P is two hours and 110 marks; Paper 2P is an hour and a quarter and 70 marks. Untiered, so a grade 9 is reachable from any set. The reliable losses are unit conversion, the difference between describe and explain, and practical-method questions where students report what happened instead of what would control the variable.

Chemistry (4CH1)

Single tier, 9-1

Same paper architecture as Physics: a long Paper 1C and a shorter Paper 2C. Organic chemistry and moles calculations absorb most tutoring time in Dubai. Students lose marks by writing unbalanced equations, omitting state symbols where the mark scheme requires them, and giving an observation where the question asked for an inference.

Biology (4BI1)

Single tier, 9-1

Paper 1B and Paper 2B, with the longer paper carrying the bulk of the marks. Biology looks like a memory subject and is marked like a precision subject: the mark scheme rewards named structures, directional language and correct comparatives. Extended-response questions on transport, genetics and ecology are where grade 7 students separate from grade 5 students.

Science (Double Award) (4SD0)

Single tier, two grades awarded

The combined route, covering biology, chemistry and physics content at reduced depth and awarding two grades. Students entered for Double Award sometimes revise from separate-science resources and waste weeks on content outside their specification. Checking the specification against the revision material is the single highest-value first session for this entry.

English Language A (4EA1)

Single tier, with a coursework route

Paper 1 covers non-fiction reading and transactional writing; the second component can be sat as a written paper or taken as coursework, depending on what the school offers. Marks are lost in the reading section by summarising rather than analysing, and in the writing section by ignoring the stated form, audience and purpose.

English Literature (4ET1)

Single tier, with a coursework route

Assessed on poetry, prose and drama, with a coursework option available to centres that offer it. The common failure is the unseen poetry response, where students write about theme and never about method. Quotation handling and the ability to write about structure rather than plot are the two skills that move a grade here.

History (4HI1)

Single tier, 9-1

Depth studies and a breadth investigation across two papers of equal weight. Source questions reward provenance and purpose, not content summary, and students who describe a source rather than interrogate it cap themselves. Essay questions need a sustained line of argument; narrative chronology scores in the middle bands and stays there.

Geography (4GE1)

Single tier, 9-1

Physical and human geography across two papers, with case-study detail carrying real marks. Dubai students often have excellent generic knowledge and no named, dated, located case studies, which is precisely what the mark scheme asks for. Fieldwork-style questions on data presentation and sampling are a reliable recovery area.

Economics (4EC1) and Business (4BS1)

Single tier, 9-1

Both reward diagram accuracy and evaluation. Students draw a supply and demand diagram without labelling axes and lose the mark that was there for the labelling. Evaluation marks need a judgement with a stated condition, not a list of advantages and disadvantages, and that is a learnable sentence pattern rather than a talent.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways Dubai families use an Edexcel IGCSE tutor, each suited to a different point in the two-year course. All three run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

Weekly one-to-one through the course

A fixed slot, same tutor, running alongside school teaching from Year 10. The session follows the school's scheme of work rather than racing ahead of it, with the week's class content checked against the specification and the gaps dealt with while they are still small. This is the pattern that produces the least drama in Year 11.

  • Same tutor and slot held for the term
  • Work keyed to the school's own scheme of work
  • Weekly written task marked against the Pearson mark scheme
  • Termly written summary of what has moved and what has not

Pre-series intensive block

A short, dense block in the six to ten weeks before a May/June or November series. Content coverage is assumed; the work is paper technique, timing, and the three or four topics the student still cannot do under pressure. Sessions are built around full past papers completed under timed conditions between lessons and marked in the session.

  • Diagnostic full paper before the block is planned
  • Two or three sessions a week in the final fortnight
  • Every session opens on a marked script
  • Topic list shrinks visibly week by week

Single-paper clinic

A small number of hours aimed at one component rather than one subject. Families use this when a mock shows a clean split: strong Paper 1P, weak Paper 2P, or a solid reading section and a collapsing writing section. It is the cheapest useful purchase in this market and the one most often overlooked in favour of a full term.

  • Three to six hours, booked against one component
  • Scope agreed in writing before the first session
  • Exit test on the same component to show movement
  • Converts to weekly work only if the evidence supports it

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

Which Pearson Edexcel codes Dubai schools actually enter

A Pearson Edexcel International GCSE subject is defined by its code, and the code is printed on the exam-entry statement the school issues each series. Mathematics A is 4MA1. Physics, Chemistry and Biology are 4PH1, 4CH1 and 4BI1. The combined route is Science (Double Award), 4SD0. English Language A is 4EA1 and English Literature is 4ET1. History is 4HI1, Geography 4GE1, Economics 4EC1, Business 4BS1 and Information and Communication Technology 4IT1. Those codes are the search terms that return the right specification, the right sample assessment material and the right past papers.

The reason this matters more in Dubai than in most markets is movement between schools and between boards. A student may sit Cambridge in one subject and Pearson in another, because the decision is taken department by department. A tutor who assumes Cambridge conventions on a Pearson paper will teach a student to answer in a form the mark scheme does not reward, and the student will do exactly what they were taught and still drop marks.

The practical check takes one evening. Pull the entry statement, list every subject with its code and tier, and then open the current specification for each one on qualifications.pearson.com. Compare the topic list against what the school has actually taught by now. In most cases the match is close. Where it is not — a topic covered in class that is not on the specification, or a specification section the class has not reached by March of Year 11 — you have found the thing worth paying a tutor to deal with.

One further warning. Pearson publishes more than one specification in several subjects, and schools change between them. Mathematics A and Mathematics B are different qualifications with different papers. Checking that the revision guide on your child's desk carries the same code as the entry statement is a two-minute exercise that occasionally saves a term.

Tiering in Mathematics A, and the grade ceiling nobody mentions

  • Foundation tier tops out at grade 5; Higher tier runs 9 to 4 with an allowed 3
  • Set placement in Year 9 often predicts the tier entered in Year 11
  • Two timed past papers, marked against the scheme, settle the question in a week
  • Tier changes are bounded by the school's entry deadline, not by the exam date

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A is sat at one of two tiers. Foundation tier covers less content and its grade range stops at 5. Higher tier covers more content and runs from 9 down to 4, with an allowed grade 3 for candidates who fall just below. This is the only mainstream decision in the IGCSE course that sets a hard ceiling on what a student can be awarded, and in Dubai schools it is often made quietly, by set placement, a year before anyone discusses it with parents.

The honest version of the trade-off is this. A student placed on Foundation who is capable of a grade 6 is being capped. A student pushed onto Higher who cannot reliably answer the first ten questions of Paper 1 will sit two papers where most of the content is out of reach, and will often come out below the grade 5 they could have secured at Foundation. Neither error is rare, and both are visible in mock data months before the entry deadline.

What a tutor can do about it is specific. Take two past papers, one Foundation and one Higher, sit them under timed conditions, and mark both against the published mark scheme rather than a percentage. The pattern that emerges is usually unambiguous: either the student is scoring comfortably at the top of Foundation, in which case the conversation with the head of maths is worth having, or they are scoring in the twenties on Higher with the easier questions already half-lost, in which case the content gap is in Year 9 material and that is what the next eight weeks should address.

Timing matters because entries are made months before the exams. Once the series entry is submitted, a tier change is a school and board process with its own deadline, not a decision a family can make in April. The time to run the comparison is autumn of Year 11 at the latest, and ideally the summer before it.

03

How each Edexcel component is weighted, and where the marks sit

Revision planning goes wrong when a student spreads effort evenly across papers that are not evenly weighted. In Mathematics A the two papers are worth the same, so that problem does not arise. In the separate sciences it very much does: Paper 1 is the long paper, carrying substantially more marks than Paper 2, and a student who has practised only the shorter paper has been rehearsing the smaller half of their grade.

The weightings are published in each specification and should be read from there rather than from a revision site. What a tutor adds is the translation into hours. If a component carries roughly six marks in ten and the student is losing most of their marks inside it, that is where the next ten sessions go. If the loss is spread evenly, the problem is usually not topic knowledge but exam technique, and the fix is a different kind of session entirely.

There is a second layer underneath the weightings, which is the distribution of marks by question type. Across most Pearson science and humanities papers, a substantial block of marks sits in extended-response questions of four to six marks. Those questions are marked on the quality and sequence of the points made, not on the quantity of writing, and they are where the gap between a grade 6 and a grade 8 is usually located. They are also the most coachable thing on the paper.

The practical exercise is to take one marked past paper and total the marks lost by question type rather than by topic. Students who have never done this are routinely surprised. A physics student convinced they are weak at electricity often discovers that electricity cost them four marks and six-mark explanation questions across every topic cost them fourteen.

04

Where Edexcel marks actually go missing between Year 10 and the final paper

  • Build a command-term list from the student's own marked scripts, not from a generic sheet
  • Method marks exist; mental arithmetic with no working forfeits them
  • Record the clock time at each page turn in a timed past paper
  • Practise abandoning a stuck question rather than defending it

Marks are rarely lost where students think. The three repeat offenders across Pearson papers are command-term misreading, unshown working, and running out of time on the final questions. Each has a distinct remedy and none of them is more content.

Command terms are the vocabulary the mark scheme uses to decide what counts. State wants a fact with no justification. Describe wants what happens. Explain wants why, with a mechanism. Evaluate wants a judgement with a condition attached. A student who explains when asked to describe wastes time and gains nothing; a student who describes when asked to explain loses the mark entirely. Twenty minutes spent building a command-term list from the student's own marked scripts recovers marks across every subject at once.

Unshown working is a mathematics and science problem specifically. Pearson mark schemes award method marks. A correct final answer with no working scores full marks, but a wrong final answer with no working scores nothing, where the same wrong answer with two lines of method might score two of three. Students who work in their heads are gambling, and the gamble has a negative expected value over a two-hour paper.

Timing is the one families underestimate most. The last three questions on a paper carry some of the highest marks and are reached by fewer students than any other part of the paper. The remedy is boring and effective: sit the paper with a clock, note the time at each page turn, and practise abandoning a stuck question after ninety seconds. That single habit is worth more than another month of content revision for a student already sitting at grade 6.

05

Two Pearson series a year, counted backwards from the exam

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE examinations are available in May/June and in November each year. That second series is the single most useful fact on this page for Dubai families, because it is almost invisible on competitor pages and it changes what is possible. A student who falls short in one subject in June does not have to wait a year. A student who arrives in Dubai mid-course can sometimes enter a subject early rather than waiting for the main series.

The dates that are confirmed are worth stating precisely. Pearson's November 2026 final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026. November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson also publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, including the November series that follows the current one, which is why any plan should be built against the live timetable on qualifications.pearson.com rather than against a restated date that can be revised.

Entry deadlines are the part families miss. The entry is made by the centre, months before the exam, and once it is in, changing a subject, a tier or a series becomes a board process with its own cut-off and sometimes a late fee. Your child's exams officer holds those dates. Asking for them in writing at the start of Year 11, and putting them in the family calendar alongside the exam window, removes the most common avoidable problem in this whole process.

Counting backwards from the exam window is how a revision plan stops being aspirational. Work out the number of weeks between today and the first paper, subtract the school holidays and the week of mocks, and divide the remaining specification by what is left. If the arithmetic does not work, the plan needs fewer topics covered properly rather than all of them covered badly, and that prioritisation is a decision a specification-literate tutor can make with you in one session.

What an Edexcel IGCSE tutor costs in Dubai, in dirhams

Three of the six best-ranking tutoring pages in this market publish no price at all, and two of the others quote in US dollars, which is not the currency a Dubai family transacts in. The bands below are market rates drawn from what providers publish about themselves, with the source named. They are not IB Gram's price list, and no figure here should be read as a quote.

At the budget end, online tutoring from university students and early-career tutors is advertised from roughly AED 45 to AED 150 an hour; EdFlik publishes rates from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. A qualified subject tutor working online sits broadly in the AED 150 to 300 range, with Unitors publishing IGCSE rates from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. An in-home visit, with travel priced in, runs higher: Bestimate's Dubai rate table puts it at AED 180 to 350, and independent home tutors advertise up to AED 500. Specialist IB, IGCSE and A-Level tutors are quoted at AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase listing AED 270. At the top, named or examiner-experienced tutors are advertised at AED 500 to 650 and above, with BartyED publishing AED 650.

Monthly packages seen in this market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. Bestimate's own monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session are AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support.

What actually moves the number for an Edexcel IGCSE tutor in Dubai is narrowness. A tutor who can teach any Year 10 maths is widely available and priced accordingly. A tutor who knows the 4MA1 Higher tier mark scheme, has marked against it, and can tell you which method marks your child is forfeiting is a smaller pool. The honest framing is that you pay for specification depth, not for a job title, and that any rate quoted without naming what it includes — session length, marking between sessions, written reporting, cancellation terms — is not yet a price.

Why the search says tutor in Dubai and the lesson happens over video

Parents in Dubai type tutor in Dubai because that is how the question forms. The thing being bought, though, is not proximity. It is a person who knows what a 4CH1 mark scheme rewards on a six-mark organic chemistry question. Those two requirements point in different directions, and geography loses.

Consider the arithmetic from a family's side. A visiting tutor serving Jumeirah can realistically reach perhaps a dozen households a week, and the subjects they can teach are whatever they happen to know. The tutor your child needs may teach 4PH1 Paper 2P practical questions for a living and live in another city entirely. Live video removes the drive and keeps the specialist, which is why IB Gram delivers one-to-one online to UAE families and does not sell home visits here — that remains an India-only service.

There is a quieter advantage, which is what the format does to evidence. A screen-shared past paper can be annotated by both people at once, saved, and compared against last month's script. The marked work accumulates in one place instead of in a folder somewhere. For a subject where the whole argument is about which marks were lost and why, that record is the thing that makes progress visible rather than felt.

The format has real costs and it is dishonest to pretend otherwise. A student who needs someone physically present to stay on task will drift on video, and that is a question worth answering in the trial lesson rather than in week six. Practical science is harder to supervise remotely, which matters more for A Level than for International GCSE, where assessment is by written paper. A good tutor tells you which of these applies to your child before taking the booking.

Past papers, mark schemes and what may legitimately be used

Past papers are the most useful revision material in existence for a written-paper qualification, and they are also copyright material belonging to Pearson. The correct position is simple: reference them, link to the official source, and work from material the school or the board has legitimately made available. IB Gram does not host, reproduce or supply Pearson specifications, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables as downloads, and a tutor who offers to send you a folder of them has told you something about how they operate.

What a tutor can do is teach a student to use the material properly. Most students use past papers as a test and stop there. The value is in the second half of the exercise: marking the script against the published mark scheme line by line, writing down what the scheme wanted that the student did not give, and tallying those gaps by question type across three papers. That tally is a revision plan, and it is produced by the student rather than handed to them.

Schools in Dubai usually hold legitimate access to current series material through their Pearson centre account, and exams officers are generally willing to release past papers and examiner reports to students who ask. Examiner reports are the underused resource in this whole category. They say, in the board's own words, what candidates did badly in the last series, which is the closest thing to a forecast anyone outside the board has.

One caution about unreleased material. Anything circulating informally that claims to be a forthcoming paper is either fake or a malpractice exposure, and in either case your child should be nowhere near it. The consequences of being found with it sit on the student, not the person who sent it.

09

Coursework, academic honesty and the line a tutor holds

Some Pearson Edexcel International GCSE subjects offer a coursework route, English Language A and English Literature among them where the centre chooses it. Where coursework exists, the work must be the student's own, produced under the centre's supervision arrangements and authenticated by the school. That is not a formality. A piece of writing that is substantially someone else's is malpractice, and the consequence falls on the candidate.

The boundary a tutor holds is specific and worth stating in plain terms. A tutor may teach the skills a task requires, discuss a student's plan, ask questions about an argument, point at a paragraph that does not do what the student thinks it does, and explain what the assessment criteria reward. A tutor may not supply sentences that end up in the submitted piece, restructure a draft on the student's behalf, or hand over a model answer to be adapted. One competitor in this market openly sells completed coursework; that is the thing to walk away from, not a service to compare prices against.

In practice the honest version is more useful anyway. A student who has had their own argument interrogated for an hour writes a better second draft than a student handed a polished one, and they can defend it in a viva or an authentication conversation. A student handed a polished draft learns nothing and carries the risk.

Ask a prospective tutor directly what they do and do not do with coursework. The answer tells you more about them than any credential on a profile, and it takes thirty seconds. A tutor who hesitates, or who answers in terms of what the school will not notice, has answered the question.

Permits, equivalency and the mandatory subjects running alongside

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers categories including teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. MoHRE's own service page, Issuance of a New Work Permit — Private Tutor Licensing, lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE app, website and e-services system. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted to you.

Equivalency is the second thing Dubai families need and rarely get told. For the British track, the Ministry of Education requires proof of five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no lower than E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects. One ranking competitor states that UAE candidates must take six IGCSE subjects; the sourced figure is five. Verify your own case on moe.gov.ae or with the attestation authority, because IB Gram does not perform or guarantee equivalency and no tutoring is required for it.

Running alongside all of this are the mandatory UAE subjects. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are required in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum. KHDA requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, with combined classes prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, schools may vary lesson length provided the weekly total is met, and the guidance advises that any mandatory-subject lesson is at least 25 minutes.

For a Year 11 student that adds up to a real second timetable, and it is the load most revision plans forget to account for. Any honest weekly plan for an Edexcel IGCSE candidate in Dubai starts by subtracting the hours those subjects already take, then allocates what is left.

Areas we cover across Dubai

Dubai families ask about an Edexcel IGCSE tutor from every part of the city, and the local detail that matters is rarely distance. It is what time a lesson can realistically start once the school run, the commute and the mandatory-subject homework have happened.

Dubai Marina and JLT

Tower living with short walks to school for some families and a Sheikh Zayed Road crossing for others. Evening slots from 17:30 work; a shared study space in a two-bedroom flat is usually the real constraint rather than the schedule.

Arabian Ranches and Dubailand

Villa communities with long school-bus routes. Students often get home after 16:30, which pushes a sensible first slot to 18:00. The upside is a quiet room and a desk, which makes a ninety-minute session viable midweek.

Mirdif and Al Warqa

A dense British-curriculum catchment with heavy afternoon traffic on Algeria Street and Tripoli Street. Families here frequently run two children through tutoring in the same evening, which only works if sessions are back-to-back rather than overlapping.

Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim

Short school runs, early finishes, and a strong preference for 16:30 starts in Years 10 and 11. The academic pattern here is high-performing students chasing grade 8 and 9 rather than students in difficulty, which changes what a session has to do.

Al Barsha and TECOM

A cluster of large British-curriculum schools and a correspondingly wide range of sets within a single year group. Tier questions in Mathematics A come up more here than anywhere else in the city, usually in Year 10 term two.

Dubai Silicon Oasis and Academic City

Long bus routes from across the city and a student body spread over several curricula. November-series entries and private-candidate questions appear more often here, partly because families moving mid-year land in this catchment.

Business Bay and Downtown

Apartment addresses with working parents and later evenings. A 19:00 or 19:30 slot is normal rather than exceptional, and the weekly rhythm survives better when the same slot is held all term rather than rebooked each week.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Western Dubai: Al Barsha, Marina, Jumeirah

The densest concentration of British-curriculum secondary provision in the emirate. Which exam board a school enters is a school decision and can differ by subject within the same school, so confirm it with the exams officer rather than assuming from the curriculum label.

  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Dubai British School Jumeirah Park
  • Jumeirah English Speaking School, Arabian Ranches
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • Safa British School

Eastern and central Dubai: Mirdif, Al Garhoud, Dubai Silicon Oasis

A wider mix of fee bands and curricula, and a catchment where mid-year arrivals from other systems are common. Students here often sit a mixture of boards across their subject list, which makes the entry statement the only reliable source of truth.

  • Dubai English Speaking College
  • GEMS Royal Dubai School
  • Star International School Mirdif
  • GEMS Founders School Al Mizhar
  • Repton Dubai

Named schools are ecosystem context for families searching in these areas. IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform with no affiliation, partnership or endorsement from any school, school group or examination board named on this page.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the entry statement, not a subject list

The first message that actually helps contains the Pearson codes and tiers your child is entered for, the school, the year group, and the most recent assessment result in the subject concerned. That is enough to match a tutor who works in the right specification rather than one who works in the right subject.

  2. 02

A free trial lesson, with the marking done live

The trial is one lesson at no charge, with no card required to book it and no obligation afterwards. It should include a short piece of the student's own recent work being marked against the published scheme, because that is the part you are judging. If the tutor talks for an hour without touching a script, you have learned nothing useful.

  3. 03

Agree scope and the terms in writing

Before any paid block starts, get four things in writing: session length, what happens between sessions, the cancellation window, and whether the quoted rate includes VAT. Ask what the tutor will and will not do with coursework. A tutor who answers all five clearly is usually the one who also keeps records.

  4. 04

Run the first four weeks against evidence

Each week the student completes one timed component and the session opens on the marked script. By week four there should be a visible list of question types where marks have stopped leaking, and a shorter list of the ones still open. That list is the thing to look at, rather than a general sense that lessons are going well.

  5. 05

Review before the entry deadline, not after mocks

The decisions with deadlines — tier, series, subject entries, private-candidate arrangements — sit with the school and close months before the papers. Put a review in the calendar early in Year 11, bring the mock data and the past-paper tallies, and have the conversation with the head of department while changing something is still possible.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The specification is the starting point

Tutors are matched to the Pearson code on the entry statement, not to a subject label. For a tiered subject that means knowing what Foundation caps at and what Higher demands; for the sciences it means knowing which component carries the larger share of the marks and planning hours accordingly.

Marked scripts, not impressions

Every session opens on something the student wrote and a mark scheme to judge it against. Progress is reported as question types where marks stopped being lost, which is checkable, rather than as effort or engagement, which is not.

Online delivery, stated plainly

Lessons for UAE families run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to UAE addresses; home visits are a service offered only in India. That is stated here so no family discovers it after paying.

Figures that carry their source

Every AED band on this page is attributed to the provider who published it, with the tier it belongs to. None of it is a quote from IB Gram. A rate without a source, a date and a list of what it includes is not information you can use.

The academic-honesty line is drawn before you ask

Tutors teach, question and give feedback on the student's own work. They do not supply sentences for submitted coursework or hand over model answers to be adapted. The risk in that market sits on the candidate, which is reason enough to be explicit about it.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

Which Pearson Edexcel International GCSE code is my child actually entered for?+

It is printed on the exam-entry statement your child's school issues for the series. Mathematics A is 4MA1, Physics 4PH1, Chemistry 4CH1, Biology 4BI1, English Language A 4EA1 and English Literature 4ET1. The code matters because Pearson publishes more than one specification in several subjects, and because the correct specification, sample assessment material and past papers are all indexed by it on qualifications.pearson.com. If you cannot find the statement, the school's exams officer can confirm each subject code and tier in a single email, and that email is worth having before you book any tutoring.

Is Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A tiered, and which tier should my child sit?+

Yes. Mathematics A is sat at Foundation tier, which stops at grade 5, or Higher tier, which runs from 9 to 4 with an allowed 3. The decision is usually implied by set placement well before anyone discusses it. The reliable way to settle it is to sit one Foundation and one Higher past paper under timed conditions and mark both against the published scheme. A student scoring at the top of Foundation is being capped; a student in the twenties on Higher with easy marks already lost needs Year 9 content repaired first. Raise it with the head of maths before the entry deadline closes.

How is a 4PH1 Physics entry split between Paper 1P and Paper 2P?+

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Physics is assessed by two written papers. Paper 1P is the longer of the two at two hours and carries the larger share of the marks; Paper 2P runs an hour and a quarter and carries the smaller share. The qualification is single-tier, so grade 9 is reachable regardless of set. The practical consequence for revision is that a student who has rehearsed only the shorter paper has been practising the smaller half of their grade. Check the exact weightings in the current specification, because Pearson publishes them there and they are what the plan should be built on.

Can a tutor help if my child's school entered Cambridge in one subject and Pearson in another?+

Yes, and in Dubai that combination is common, because the board is chosen department by department rather than school-wide. What matters is that the tutor works in the right conventions for each paper. Cambridge and Pearson ask similar content in several subjects but reward different things in their mark schemes, particularly in English and the sciences. A tutor who teaches Cambridge habits on a Pearson paper will produce answers the scheme does not credit. Give the tutor the entry statement for every subject, and ask them to confirm which specification they are teaching to before the first paid session.

Does Pearson run an International GCSE series in November as well as the summer?+

Yes. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE examinations are available in May/June and November each year. This is one of the least-known facts in the Dubai tutoring market and it changes planning considerably. A student who falls short in one subject in the summer can re-enter in November rather than waiting a full year, and a student arriving mid-course can sometimes sit a subject early. The November 2026 final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026. Entry for either series is made by the school months in advance, so the exams officer holds the deadline that actually governs your options.

Which Pearson results milestones are already published and worth diarising?+

For the June 2026 series, results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026. For the November 2025 series, results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson publishes each series timetable and results schedule on qualifications.pearson.com, including provisional timetables ahead of time for series such as the November sitting a full year ahead. Because provisional dates can be revised, check the live page rather than relying on a restated date. Agree in advance with your child who collects the results and when, particularly if the family travels in August.

What does a specialist Edexcel IGCSE tutor charge per hour in the Dubai market?+

Published market rates in Dubai span a wide range. Budget online tutoring is advertised from roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik publishing AED 45-65 and Tutopiya AED 33-52. Qualified online subject tutors sit around AED 150-300, with Unitors listing IGCSE from AED 150. Specialists are quoted at AED 200-450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270, and premium named tutors at AED 500-650, with BartyED publishing AED 650. Those are the providers' own figures, not IB Gram's prices. Always ask what the rate includes before comparing two of them.

Are lessons delivered online, or does a tutor come to a Dubai address?+

Lessons for UAE families are delivered one-to-one over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not operate home visits in the UAE; that service exists only in India. The reason is the size of the specialist pool. A tutor who genuinely knows 4CH1 organic chemistry mark schemes may not live within driving distance of your community, and the video format keeps the specialist rather than the postcode. Screen-shared marking also leaves a saved record of every annotated script, which is the evidence a family needs when judging whether the sessions are working.

How many weeks of Edexcel IGCSE tutoring does one subject usually need?+

It depends on whether the problem is content or technique, and a diagnostic answers that in one session. A technique problem — command terms misread, working not shown, final questions never reached — often moves substantially in six to eight weekly sessions, because the fix transfers across every topic at once. A genuine content gap reaching back into Year 9 takes longer, frequently a term, because the missing material has to be rebuilt before paper practice means anything. No honest tutor gives a number before seeing a marked script, and any promise of a specific grade in a specific time should be treated with real scepticism.

Can a tutor supply Pearson past papers and mark schemes for my child to work from?+

IB Gram does not host, reproduce or supply Pearson specifications, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables, because they are the board's copyright material. The legitimate route is your child's school, which holds access through its Pearson centre account, and the official pages on qualifications.pearson.com. Ask the exams officer for past papers and, more usefully, for examiner reports: those state in the board's own words what candidates did badly in the last series. A tutor's job is teaching a student to mark their own script against the scheme, which is where the value in past papers actually sits.

What may a tutor do with my child's Edexcel English coursework, and what is off limits?+

Where a centre offers the coursework route, the submitted piece must be the student's own work and the school authenticates it. A tutor may teach the skills the task needs, discuss a plan, question an argument, point out a paragraph that does not do its job, and explain what the assessment criteria reward. A tutor may not supply sentences that end up in the submission, restructure a draft on the student's behalf, or provide a model answer to be adapted. One provider in this market sells finished coursework outright; the consequences of using it fall on the candidate, not the seller.

Does my child need five Edexcel IGCSE subjects for UAE Ministry of Education equivalency?+

For the British track, the Ministry of Education requires five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no lower than E or grade 3, together with one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five. One competitor page states six subjects are required; the sourced figure is five. Verify your own circumstances on moe.gov.ae or with the attestation authority. IB Gram does not perform equivalency, and no tutoring is required to obtain it.

Do private tutors in Dubai need a permit before teaching my child?+

Yes. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible categories include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. MoHRE's service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule is published, so treat any specific figure you are quoted as unverified.

How do Arabic and Islamic Education fit around an Edexcel IGCSE timetable in Dubai?+

They are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum. KHDA requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and prohibits combined classes because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, with the guidance advising at least 25 minutes for any mandatory-subject lesson. For a Year 11 student that is a second timetable running alongside the IGCSE course, and any realistic weekly revision plan has to subtract those hours before allocating anything else.

Can Edexcel IGCSE sessions move to post-Iftar timing during Ramadan?+

Yes, and families should plan for it rather than improvise. School days shorten during Ramadan and the usable study window shifts late, which matters most in the years when the month falls close to the summer series. The workable pattern is usually a shorter session after Iftar, two or three times a week, with the heaviest cognitive work moved earlier in the term rather than attempted during the month. Because lessons run over live video on Gulf Standard Time, changing the slot is a scheduling decision rather than a logistical one, and the same tutor keeps the thread.

Find the code, then find the tutor

An Edexcel IGCSE tutor in Dubai earns their rate by knowing what a specific Pearson mark scheme rewards and where your child is currently forfeiting marks against it. Start by sending the exam-entry statement, the school, the year group and the latest assessment result. The trial lesson is free, requires no card and carries no obligation, and it should include a piece of your child's own work marked live against the published scheme. If that hour does not tell you something you did not already know, you have lost nothing but the hour.
