IB Home Tutor near me in the UAE

Type IB home tutor near me in the UAE and Google answers with whoever is closest and whoever paid most. Proximity is the wrong filter. What your address genuinely decides is which authority licensed your child's school, which exam timetable zone the school sits in, and which attestation desk will handle the certificate. IB Gram works the other way round: the subject and level come first, and every lesson runs one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with a free trial lesson before anything is booked.

  • Matched by subject, level and syllabus guide, never by how near you live
  • Every lesson one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time

IB & IGCSE in the UAE

What your postcode decides, and what it does not

A search for an IB home tutor near me in the UAE is a search about distance. It is worth being precise about what distance actually buys. The IB Diploma is a single international syllabus: the same guide, the same command terms, the same criteria whether your child sits Paper 1 in Al Quoz or in Frankfurt. Nothing in that syllabus changes because a tutor lives two streets away. What does change with your address is the regulatory frame around the school, and almost nobody writing about tutoring in this country explains it.

Five separate bodies license private schools in the UAE. KHDA covers Dubai. ADEK covers Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. The Sharjah Private Education Authority covers Sharjah, the Department of Knowledge covers Ras Al Khaimah, and the federal Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. The powers are not identical. In Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah the authority approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, so a family moving between emirates is moving between different approval regimes rather than between different inspection letterheads.

Then there is supply. Dubai's private sector held 387,441 students across 227 private schools offering 17 curricula in 2024-25, and the International Baccalaureate accounted for 7% of that enrolment, against 37% UK curriculum, 26% Indian and 14% American. A Diploma family is therefore shopping inside the smallest of the four main curriculum groups. When the requirement narrows to Chemistry at Higher Level, or to Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, the number of people within driving distance who have actually taught that course at that level thins very quickly. Outside Dubai it thins faster.

IB Gram does not send a tutor to a UAE address. Lessons run one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, with a shared whiteboard and the student's own past paper on screen. Home visiting is a service we run in India, and saying so plainly is more useful than leaving it ambiguous. The practical consequence for a family in Mirdif or Khalifa City is that the search radius stops mattering: the specialist is chosen for the syllabus, and the forty minutes that would have gone on a drive go into the lesson instead.

This page is organised around the things your location really does govern. Which authority to check before you book. Whether the person you found locally is permitted to tutor at all. Which exam timetable zone your child's centre belongs to. What the Ministry of Education asks for when an IB or IGCSE certificate has to be made equivalent for a UAE university. And what the market charges to put somebody in the room, so that the comparison with one-to-one online gets made on numbers rather than on feelings.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

IB Gram covers the four IB programmes a UAE family may meet, though the Diploma is where most requests land. Each note below adds the thing the UAE regulatory frame puts on top of the IB's own requirements, because the mandatory Ministry subjects and the equivalency file apply whichever programme your child is on.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

The Primary Years Programme runs from ages 3 to 12 and is organised around six transdisciplinary themes rather than separate subjects. There are no external examinations. Assessment is continuous and the programme closes with the PYP exhibition, a student-led inquiry presented to the school community. Support at this stage is usually about reading fluency, number sense and the writing stamina the Middle Years Programme will assume, not about examination technique.

In Dubai private schools the mandatory Ministry subjects start here: Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies sit on the timetable next to the PYP units, and KHDA requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab groups because the curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. Families searching for a tutor near them at primary age are most often looking for Arabic, and that is a different hunt from a Diploma subject.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

The Middle Years Programme covers ages 11 to 16 across eight subject groups and assesses each against four published criteria, marked out of 8 and reported on a 1-7 scale. It ends with the personal project. Year 11 is where the gap to the Diploma opens: MYP criteria reward process and reflection, while Diploma papers reward precise, time-limited answers under specific command terms. Most of the work at this stage is closing that gap.

Many UAE schools run the MYP to Year 11 and then move students into the Diploma, while others switch to IGCSE for two years. Which route a school takes is settled with the emirate authority as part of its licensed curriculum, so read the school's own curriculum page and the subject detail in its inspection report before assuming the transition into Diploma Higher Level subjects is automatic.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

The Diploma Programme covers ages 16 to 19: three Higher Level and three Standard Level subjects, Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Higher Level carries more content and usually an additional paper. Internally assessed components are marked by the school teacher and moderated by the IB; external papers are marked by IB examiners. The Diploma total is 45 points, with up to 3 from the Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay matrix.

UAE schools sit the May session. The Diploma is also where the Ministry of Education equivalency question becomes urgent, because a UAE university application usually needs the certificate attested and made equivalent, and the published British-track rules do not cover the IB at all. Verify any IB points threshold on moe.gov.ae or with the school's IB coordinator before relying on a number found on a tutoring website.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

The Career-related Programme pairs two or more Diploma courses with a career-related study, a reflective project and a personal and professional skills course. It is the smallest of the four programmes in this region and only a handful of UAE schools offer it. Students on it usually need help with the Diploma courses they carry, because those are assessed exactly as a Diploma candidate's are, by the same papers against the same criteria.

Because the Career-related Programme is rare here, a tutor who has taught it is rarer still, which is the clearest small illustration of this page's argument. Searching by distance for a Career-related Programme specialist in Ajman or Fujairah is likely to return nothing at all. Searching by programme and teaching over live video returns somebody who has read the reflective project criteria.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the Diploma courses UAE families ask for most, with the levels taught and the point in the course where marks usually go. Request the level your child is actually entered at: the Higher Level syllabus is not the Standard Level one with extra homework, and a tutor who has only taught Standard Level will miss the additional content.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Proof, calculus and algebraic manipulation carry the papers. Higher Level adds a third paper of extended problem-solving and a far deeper calculus treatment. Marks go on unjustified steps, on calculator use where an analytic method was expected, and on the exploration, where personal engagement and reflection are the criteria students treat as decoration.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling, statistics and technology-rich questions. Higher Level adds matrices, graph theory and more demanding statistical inference. The common failure is treating it as the easier route: the data-handling questions are long, the command terms are precise, and the exploration still has to show a genuine mathematical process rather than a survey with a bar chart attached.

Chemistry

HL and SL

The current guide is organised around structure and reactivity. Energetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms are where Higher Level separates from Standard Level. Data-based questions lose marks on uncertainties and significant figures, and the scientific investigation is marked on research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation rather than on how impressive the apparatus looked.

Physics

HL and SL

Mechanics and fields reward algebraic fluency; the Higher Level extensions reward careful use of the data booklet. Students lose marks writing qualitative answers to quantitative command terms, and on graph work: axes, uncertainties, gradients, and the units that belong to a gradient rather than to the quantities plotted.

Biology

HL and SL

Content-heavy, with marks sitting in precise terminology and in applying a concept to an unfamiliar organism. Higher Level adds depth in nucleic acids, metabolism and plant biology. Extended responses need a structure before the first sentence, and the scientific investigation needs a question narrow enough for the variables to be controlled.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagrams first: a correctly labelled, correctly shifted diagram carries most of the analysis marks. Higher Level adds the quantitative paper, where candidates lose marks on calculation conventions rather than on economics. The internally assessed portfolio is three commentaries on published news articles, each under a strict word limit that is enforced.

Business Management

HL and SL

Tools, techniques and theories applied to a real organisation, with a pre-released case study for Paper 1 and extension topics at Higher Level. The research project is where marks are lost: a question that cannot be answered with the data a student can actually obtain produces a weak evaluation however neatly it is written.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Two papers, the individual oral, and at Higher Level the HL essay. Paper 1 is guided analysis of an unseen non-literary text, which rewards practice on real advertisements, columns and infographics. The individual oral usually fails on the global issue: too broad, and the chosen extract cannot carry it.

Arabic A and Arabic B

HL and SL

Two distinct courses with different purposes, often confused at registration. Arabic A is for first-language speakers; Arabic B is acquisition. In Dubai private schools Arabic also runs as a mandatory Ministry subject with its own language-of-instruction rules, so a family may be supporting a Diploma course and a mandatory stream in parallel.

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay

Core · all Diploma candidates

Assessed on an exhibition of three objects and a prescribed-title essay for Theory of Knowledge, and a 4,000-word research essay for the Extended Essay, together contributing up to 3 points on the Diploma matrix. Both are supervised by the school. A tutor's role is questioning, reading lists and criterion-referenced feedback on the student's own drafts.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways families use the lessons. All three run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time and none involves travel. Pick by what the student is actually short of: weekly consolidation, coursework process, or examination technique under time pressure.

Weekly one-to-one through the term

One fixed slot a week with the same tutor, built around the school's own scheme of work and assessment calendar. The student brings the current topic and the last piece of marked work; the tutor works from the subject guide and the real paper. Written notes follow each lesson, so a parent can see what was covered without sitting in on it.

  • A fixed weekly slot in Gulf Standard Time
  • Work taken from the school's own topic order
  • Written notes after every lesson
  • Reviewed against the school report each term

Coursework clinics for the exploration, Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge

Short, deadline-driven sessions on the internally assessed components. The student's own work is on screen and the tutor reads it against the published criteria, asks the questions an examiner would ask, and points at the criterion where the marks are missing. Nothing is dictated and nothing is supplied: the author is the student and the school supervisor remains in charge of the process.

  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback on the student's own draft
  • Research question narrowed before data collection starts
  • Referencing and citation conventions checked
  • Internal school deadlines respected, not worked around

Examination-term intensives

Blocks of two or three sessions a week in the weeks before the papers, worked entirely on timed questions. The tutor marks to the published criteria, returns the script annotated, and keeps a running list of the command terms the student is misreading. Sessions can move to post-Iftar timing during Ramadan or around prayer times without changing the arrangement.

  • Timed questions marked to the published criteria
  • A running error log by topic and command term
  • Paper-by-paper weightings made explicit
  • Flexible timing during Ramadan and exam leave

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in the UAE

01

What a search for a tutor near you actually returns

A search for an IB home tutor near me in the UAE ranks results by distance, by advertising spend and by how well a local listing is maintained. None of those three things records whether the person has taught the Diploma course your child is entered for, at the level being sat, under the current subject guide.

That matters because the Diploma is not a local qualification. The subject guide, the command terms, the criteria and the papers are identical in Fujairah and in Frankfurt. The one genuinely local variable in teaching terms is the school's own scheme of work and its internal deadlines, and those are published to parents, not to the nearest tutor. So the distance between your front door and a tutor's front door buys travel time and very little else.

There are, though, several distances in a UAE family's situation that do matter, and none of them is the one a search engine measures. The table below sets them out. Two are genuinely physical: the examination centre and the attestation desk. Three are administrative: which authority licensed the school, which timetable version the centre works from, and which syllabus the class teacher is working through. Only the first row, the tutor, turns out to be the one where proximity adds nothing at all.

Read the table as a checklist before you contact anybody. Every row except the first can be settled from a published document in under an hour, and settling them changes the question you ask a tutor. It stops being whether they are nearby and becomes whether they have taught Chemistry at Higher Level under the current guide, and whether they have marked a scientific investigation against its criteria.

02

Which authority licensed your child's school, and what else it controls

Five bodies license private schools in the UAE and the first useful thing a parent can do is name theirs. KHDA is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in Dubai. ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.

The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in Sharjah and the Department of Knowledge does the same in Ras Al Khaimah. The Ministry of Education plays a pivotal role in supervising private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Those five cover the whole country. ADEK is named by none of the pages competing for these searches, and SPEA Sharjah appears in one of them, once.

The powers differ in a way that affects a tutoring plan. Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, which is curriculum and fee approval rather than inspection alone. Dubai's fee position is set separately: KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package. Dubai is also adding seven private schools for 2026-27, four UK curriculum and three IB, creating 16,846 new places after a 6% rise in enrolment the year before.

What to take from this is to read your own authority's pages rather than a generic article. Note too that none of these bodies accredits individual private tutors. A tuition centre with premises and staff in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. An individual tutor does not hold one, so any page describing its tutors as approved by one of these authorities is describing something that does not exist for individuals.

03

Why proximity runs out of IB specialists before it runs out of tutors

Scarcity, not quality, is the real problem with a distance-first search. The IB is a minority curriculum even in the country's largest private market: 7% of Dubai private-school enrolment in 2024-25, against 37% UK curriculum, 26% Indian and 14% American. Every narrowing of the requirement cuts the local pool again.

Work it through. Start with teachers who have taught the Diploma. Keep only those who have taught the subject. Keep only those who have taught it at Higher Level under the current guide. Keep only those who have marked the internally assessed component against its criteria. Keep only those free at 18:00 on a school night. Then draw a twenty-minute radius around your villa. That last filter removes more people than any of the others and adds the least to the lesson.

Outside Dubai the arithmetic is harsher. Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain between them hold a small number of IB World Schools, and the pages competing for these searches mention three of those emirates not once. A family in Fujairah looking for a Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches Higher Level specialist is not choosing between tutors. They are choosing between a generalist nearby and a specialist over live video.

We would rather state that plainly than imply a coverage we do not have. Where no specialist is free for a subject and level, we say so and give an expected wait, rather than putting a general maths tutor in front of a Higher Level candidate six weeks before the papers. That disclosure is the whole value of matching by syllabus: it only works if the answer is sometimes no.

Is the person you found nearby permitted to tutor?

Private tutoring in the UAE is lawful, and it is licensed. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is granted free of charge for two years, and it is applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. The official service is listed as Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, which shows no fee and a two-working-day completion time.

Eligibility is broad. Teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18 may all apply. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so an amount quoted to you as the penalty is somebody's guess rather than a figure from the ministry.

Two conditions matter when the tutor is somebody local. The permit carries a code of conduct that bars serving students affiliated with the holder's own school, and ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff in Abu Dhabi prohibit paid private tutoring of students enrolled at the same school. So the offer from your child's own subject teacher, however convenient it sounds, is the one to decline. Treat the ADEK detail as press-reported and check the current policy document if it matters to your decision.

Asking to see a permit is a normal question rather than a rude one. Ask for the permit, the category it was issued under and the expiry date, and check the name matches the person who will actually teach. A tutoring business with premises and staff is a separate matter: in Dubai that needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps once initial approval is given.

What the UAE market charges to put a tutor in the room

Rates first, because almost nobody in this market publishes them. The figures below are market rates in dirhams per hour, taken from providers' own published pages and from Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table, read in October 2026. They are not IB Gram's price list. They are reproduced so that the travel premium is visible rather than buried.

The pattern across the sources is consistent: a visiting tutor costs more per hour than the same tutor working over video, and the gap is roughly the journey. Bestimate puts one-to-one in-home tuition at AED 180-350, while independent home tutors advertise up to AED 500. Online bands run lower, with EdFlik publishing from AED 45-65 and Tutopiya from AED 33-52 at the budget end, and Unitors from AED 150 for IGCSE and from AED 200 for IB. TutorChase publishes AED 270 for specialist support and BartyED AED 650 at the premium end.

Monthly packages seen in the market run around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session are AED 240-600 at the budget end, AED 600-1,200 mid-market, and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist examination-year support. Set that against KHDA's position that Dubai private school fees are not rising for 2026-27: school fees are the fixed line in the education budget and tutoring is the one still moving.

IB Gram does not publish an hourly figure on this page, because the number depends on subject, level and how many sessions a week. The trial lesson is forty-five minutes, costs nothing, needs no card details and is one per student; the rate is agreed after it rather than before. Ask any provider three questions before you commit: is the quote per hour or per lesson, does it include VAT, and what is charged for travel.

A tutor in the room against one-to-one over live video

This is the comparison the search deserves, so here it is on the facts. A visiting tutor gives you presence in the room, a parent who can see the lesson happening, and a student who cannot quietly close a laptop. Those are real advantages and worth naming before the case against them.

Against them: the hourly rate carries the journey, the catchment decides the tutor pool, a 17:00 start becomes 18:30 after Sheikh Zayed Road at the wrong hour, a cancelled session wastes somebody's drive, and sessions arrive in two-hour blocks because a single hour does not pay for the travel. A two-hour block suits the economics of the trip more than it suits the concentration of a sixteen-year-old at the end of a school day.

One-to-one over live video removes the journey from both sides. The practical gains are specific. A shorter session becomes viable, so an hour of timed questions on Tuesday and forty minutes on the exploration on Thursday is affordable. The student's own script is on screen and annotated live. Written notes exist afterwards. And the tutor is drawn from everyone who has taught the course rather than everyone who lives within a drive. IB Gram delivers all UAE tuition this way, one-to-one, over live video; home visiting is a service we run in India only.

The honest limits are worth stating too. A student who will not engage with a screen needs a different plan. Very young learners need an adult in the room for the first few weeks. Practical laboratory work cannot be replicated over video; what can be taught is the data analysis, the uncertainty treatment and the alternative-to-practical technique, which is where the marks for practical work actually sit.

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies: the subjects your address does not excuse

  • Separate classes for Arab and non-Arab groups; combined classes are strictly prohibited
  • Standard Arabic for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language
  • Instructional time calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, with 25 minutes advised as a floor
  • No different or additional content without prior permission from the MoE
  • Arabic A and Arabic B are different Diploma courses and are often confused at registration

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA required its current arrangements to be in place by the start of the 2025-26 academic year, or April 2026 for schools whose year begins in April. The federal position is the same in substance: private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, but must adhere to the Ministry's general regulations.

The rules are more specific than most families expect. For Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs, and combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited, because the curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. Standard Arabic is the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language. Social Studies is taught in Arabic for Arab students, while non-Arabs study Islamic Education and Moral, Social and Cultural studies in the school's licensed-curriculum language.

Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit. Schools may vary the length of a lesson provided the total weekly time is met, and the guidance advises that any mandatory-subject lesson should run at least 25 minutes. One rule constrains a tutor directly: for these subjects the use of any different or additional content, without prior permission from the MoE, is strictly prohibited. A tutor supporting Arabic or Islamic Education should therefore work from the school's own prescribed material rather than from a private worksheet pack.

This is also the one area where a parent should ask about a credential rather than about syllabus history. Schools are required to ensure that all teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic have appropriate KHDA approval to teach these subjects. For the Diploma, remember that Arabic A and Arabic B are separate courses with separate aims, and a child may be carrying a Diploma Arabic course and a mandatory Arabic stream at the same time, assessed in two completely different ways.

The examination centre is the genuinely local thing

If one part of a proximity search deserves the word near, it is the examination centre. Your child sits the papers in a room, on a date the board sets, under a timetable version that depends on where that room is. Everything else in this process can happen over a connection.

Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level examinations in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Every centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge is explicit that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after the wrong zone timetable was used. That single sentence is the reason to ask your school's examinations officer one question in writing: which zone is this centre in?

The March series shows how far ahead the administrative dates sit. For March 2027 Cambridge publishes an examination period of 3 February to 4 March 2027, final entries due 27 November 2026, forecast grades due 27 February 2027, results on Cambridge Direct on 13 May and certificates in late June. Entries therefore close roughly ten weeks before the first paper. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE examinations run in May and June and again in November; the November 2026 final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson also publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so work from the live official document rather than a date copied onto a tutoring website.

For the IB, UAE schools sit the May session, and that is as specific as this page will be. The IB's own site blocks automated checking, so no IB examination or results date here has been confirmed from the IB itself. Confirm every IB date with your school's IB coordinator or on ibo.org before planning around it. Any page quoting precise IB dates without naming where it read them is asking you to take a date on trust.

Ministry of Education equivalency: the appointment that really does need you in the country

  • British track: five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3
  • Arabic and Islamic education are excluded from that count of five
  • Plus one subject at Advanced Level at no less than E, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade
  • American track: SAT Math 450 or better, and IELTS 5, TOEFL iBT 61 or SAT 450 in reading and writing
  • No IB points threshold appears in the sourced guidance, so verify it on moe.gov.ae
  • Start the document trail in the final school year, before results arrive

A UAE university application usually turns on a Ministry of Education equivalency certificate, and this is the part of the process where being in the country matters. It is also the part the pages competing for these searches leave almost entirely blank, which is a strange gap given how often it decides an application.

The British-track requirements are published. A student must submit proof of one accredited subject at the Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at the Advanced Subsidiary Level with the same grade, and must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects. That five-subject rule is worth repeating, because at least one page ranking for UAE tutoring queries tells parents the figure is six.

The American track is specified differently: English proficiency through a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT test, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT; and mathematics through at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying. For the IB there is no figure on this page, deliberately. The source that sets out the British and American tracks states no IB points threshold, so any IB number here would be invented. Check moe.gov.ae or the emirate attestation authority directly.

IB Gram does not perform, submit or guarantee any part of equivalency or attestation, and no tutoring service should claim to. What a tutor can do is check that the subject grades the file will need are the ones the student is actually on course for, which is a planning conversation best had in the first term of the final year rather than in August with results in hand. Nothing about tutoring is required for equivalency; it is a document process, not an academic one.

What a tutor may not do with internally assessed work

  • A tutor teaches content, explains criteria and gives feedback on work the student has produced
  • The school supervisor owns the process, the sign-off and the internal deadlines
  • No sentences, no bibliography and no research question are supplied ready-made
  • Any offer of finished coursework is a reason to end the conversation

One page ranking in this market sells finished Internal Assessments outright. It is worth naming what that is: an academic-integrity breach, a malpractice trigger, and a risk that falls almost entirely on the sixteen-year-old whose name sits on the submission rather than on the person who took the money.

The internally assessed components, meaning the subject explorations and investigations, the Extended Essay, the Theory of Knowledge essay and exhibition and the Personal Project, are assessed on the student's own work, and the school's supervisor signs to that effect. A tutor's legitimate role is large and specific: teaching the underlying content, explaining what each criterion rewards, asking the questions an examiner would ask of a research question, checking that a method can actually generate usable data, reviewing referencing conventions, and giving feedback on a draft the student has already produced.

The line is authorship. Sentences supplied by somebody else, a bibliography assembled by somebody else, data fabricated or borrowed, a research question handed over ready-made, a draft returned so heavily reworked that the voice has changed: all of that crosses it. So does any arrangement sold as a finished piece of coursework. A tutor who offers that has told you what else they will be casual about.

Ask a prospective tutor directly how they handle coursework and listen for a boundary in the answer. Ours is stated before anything is booked: we teach, we question, and we give criterion-referenced feedback on what the student has already produced, while the school supervisor stays in charge of the process and the internal deadlines. There is a practical reason to keep that line clean as well as an ethical one. An examiner reads thousands of scripts, and a voice that does not match the rest of a candidate's work is conspicuous.

Where we tutor

Searching from these places: what changes, and what does not

The emirate you search from changes the authority, the inspection framework and the attestation route. It does not change the syllabus, and with lessons over live video it does not change which tutor you can reach. Each note names the body that licenses your child's school and the practical scheduling point for families there.

Dubai

KHDA is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate and publishes the inspection reports. Dubai holds the largest private sector in the country: 387,441 students across 227 schools in 2024-25, 7% of them on IB programmes. Evening slots from 17:00 Gulf Standard Time fill first here, so fix the weekly time early.

Abu Dhabi

ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate and runs its own inspection cycle. ADEK's professional-ethics rules also bar private and charter school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, which is worth knowing before accepting an offer that originates in the staff room.

Al Ain

Also ADEK territory, and a smaller IB field than Abu Dhabi island. Families here are the clearest case for choosing by syllabus: a Higher Level Physics specialist within a short drive of Asharej or Al Jimi is a thin market, while the same specialist over live video is not a market constraint at all.

Sharjah

The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in the emirate and approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. That is a wider remit than inspection alone, and it is why a Sharjah school's course offer can differ from a Dubai school's on the same curriculum.

Ajman

Private schools in Ajman are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education rather than by an emirate authority. Many Ajman families commute into Sharjah or Dubai for school, which pushes the realistic start of a weekday session past 18:00 Gulf Standard Time once the return journey is counted.

Umm Al Quwain

Also under the federal Ministry of Education. The IB field here is very small, and the pages competing for these searches mention Umm Al Quwain not once. Online delivery is the only realistic route to a named Higher Level specialist for a family living in the emirate.

Ras Al Khaimah

The Department of Knowledge regulates private education in the emirate and, like Sharjah's authority, approves fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Ras Al Khaimah Academy runs IB programmes; beyond a short list of schools the choice narrows quickly, and the local tutoring market narrows with it.

Fujairah

Supervised by the federal Ministry of Education. The east coast is the least-served part of the country for IB subject specialists, and the drive to Dubai makes a weekly in-person arrangement unrealistic for a school-night session. Lessons over live video remove the journey from the arrangement entirely.

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in the UAE

Dubai and the KHDA inspection file

Students we support attend Dubai IB World Schools like these. Before booking anything, read the school's most recent KHDA inspection report: it separates attainment from progress by subject, and a subject where progress lags attainment is a different tutoring problem from one where both are low.

Abu Dhabi and Al Ain under ADEK

ADEK publishes its own school profiles and inspection outcomes. Families in Khalifa City, Al Reef and Saadiyat most often ask about the Diploma sciences and about Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, which is also where the shortage of nearby specialists bites hardest.

Sharjah and the northern emirates

A shorter list, and that is the point. Where an emirate has a handful of IB World Schools it also has a handful of teachers who have taught the Diploma, and the number who have taught one specific Higher Level course is smaller again. Matching over live video is what makes the length of that list irrelevant.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the emirate and the authority

Tell us which emirate the school sits in and we will name the body that licenses it, whether that is KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the RAK Department of Knowledge or the Ministry of Education, and point you at its own published pages. It takes a minute and it changes which documents are worth reading before you book anything.

  2. 02

Give us the subject, the level and the guide

Subject, level, exam board and the version of the subject guide. For the Diploma that means Higher or Standard Level and whether the current guide applies. For IGCSE it means Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel and the syllabus code. These are the facts the match is actually made on, rather than the distance between two addresses.

  3. 03

Send one real piece of marked work

A marked paper, a draft of the exploration or the last school report tells a specialist more than a description of the problem ever does. It is also how the first lesson avoids being spent on diagnosis: the tutor arrives already knowing which topics and which command terms are costing your child marks.

  4. 04

    Take the free trial lesson

Forty-five minutes, one per student, no card details and nothing owed afterwards. It is a real lesson on real work rather than a sales call. Judge it on whether the tutor found something about your child's work that you did not already know, and on whether the student wants the next one.

  5. 05

Fix the weekly slot on Gulf Standard Time

One recurring time, agreed around the school run, prayer times and the family's own evening. Sessions can move to post-Iftar timing during Ramadan. Written notes follow each lesson, and the plan is reviewed against the school's own assessment calendar every six to eight weeks rather than left to drift.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The authority is named, not implied

Every page we publish names the body that licenses schools in that emirate and links its own material. IB Gram holds no approval, permit or relationship from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education or the IB, and says so on the page. Any tutoring site implying otherwise is describing a credential that does not exist for individual tutors.

Matched by syllabus, not by radius

The match is made on subject, level, exam board and guide, which is the only set of facts that predicts whether somebody can teach the course. Where the specialist lives stops mattering once the lesson runs over live video, and the pool producing the match is the whole of it rather than a twenty-minute drive.

Market rates shown, our rate agreed after the trial

The dirham bands on this page are other providers' published figures with the month they were read. We do not present them as ours and we do not hide a price behind a form. The rate for your child depends on subject, level and frequency, and it is agreed after the trial lesson rather than before it.

A written boundary on coursework

The internally assessed components stay the student's own work and the school supervisor stays in charge of them. We teach the content, explain what each criterion rewards, and give feedback on drafts the student has produced. That boundary is stated before anything is booked, because the risk of the alternative falls on the candidate.

Built for the emirates nobody writes about

Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain appear nowhere in the pages competing for these searches, and they are precisely the places where a local specialist search returns nothing. Delivery over live video is what makes a Higher Level match possible from an address three hours from Dubai.

Timed to the Gulf school night

Slots run on Gulf Standard Time, set around the school run, prayer times and the realistic end of a UAE school day. Sessions move to post-Iftar timing during Ramadan, and they continue through family travel, because nobody has to be in a particular room for them to happen.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in the UAE: your questions answered

Will a search for an IB home tutor near me find someone who has taught my child's syllabus?+

Usually not directly. A proximity search ranks by distance, by advertising and by how well a listing is maintained, and none of those records whether the tutor has taught the Diploma course your child is entered for, at the level being sat, under the current guide. Ask three questions instead of one: which subject and level have you taught, which version of the guide were you teaching from, and have you marked the internally assessed component against its criteria? Those answers predict a useful lesson. A postcode does not. With lessons running over live video, distance stops being a filter at all.

How do I check that a tutor we found locally is permitted to teach in the UAE?+

Ask to see the MoHRE private tuition work permit, the category it was issued under and its expiry date, then check the name matches the person who will teach. The permit came in under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and is applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule is published, so treat any amount quoted to you as unverified. A tutoring business with premises is different again: in Dubai that needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit.

Can my child's own class teacher tutor them privately in the evening?+

This is the arrangement to avoid. The MoHRE private tuition work permit carries a code of conduct barring the holder from serving students affiliated with their own school, and ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff in Abu Dhabi prohibit paid private tutoring of students enrolled at the same school. The reason is plain once stated: the person teaching the class, setting the coursework deadlines and marking the internally assessed work should not also be paid privately by the family. Treat the ADEK detail as press-reported and check the current policy if it matters. A separate specialist, with no stake in the school's marking, is cleaner.

What does a home visit actually add to the hourly rate here?+

Roughly the journey. Bestimate's 2026 rate table puts one-to-one in-home tuition in Dubai at AED 180-350 an hour and independent home tutors advertise up to AED 500, while online bands in the same research run from AED 33-65 at the budget end and AED 150-300 for a qualified subject tutor. The visit also tends to arrive as a two-hour block, because a single hour does not pay for the drive, so the commitment per session is larger as well as the rate. Those are other providers' published figures, read in October 2026, and not IB Gram's prices.

Does living outside Dubai make it harder to find an IB specialist?+

By distance, yes, and sharply. The IB accounted for 7% of Dubai private-school enrolment in 2024-25, and Dubai is the largest private market in the country with 227 schools. Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain hold far fewer IB World Schools between them, so the number of people nearby who have taught one specific Diploma course at Higher Level can genuinely be zero. That is the practical case for live video rather than a drive: the match is made from everyone who has taught the course, not from everyone inside a catchment area.

Which exam timetable applies to my child's centre, and why does the zone matter?+

Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after the wrong version was used. So the only safe answer is the one your school's examinations officer gives in writing. Ask which zone the centre sits in, then work from that timetable and nothing else. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series and revises them, which is a second reason to work from the live official document rather than a date on a tutoring site.

Is it five accredited IGCSE subjects for equivalency, or six?+

Five. The published British-track requirement is to pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, together with one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. One page currently ranking for UAE tutoring queries tells parents the figure is six, which would change a child’s option choices for no reason at all. Verify the current rule on moe.gov.ae or with the emirate attestation authority before planning a subject line-up around it.

Are Arabic and Islamic Education counted among those five subjects?+

No. The published guidance states that Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects for the GCSE or IGCSE count. They still sit on the timetable: Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum. So a student can be working hard at a subject that does not count towards the equivalency total while needing five others that do. Check that against the school's option blocks early, rather than in the final term when the combination is already fixed.

Can a tutor use their own worksheets for Arabic, Islamic Education or Social Studies?+

Not freely. KHDA's guidance on the mandatory subjects states that the use of any different or additional content, without prior permission from the MoE, is strictly prohibited. A tutor supporting these subjects should work from the school's own prescribed material rather than a private worksheet pack. The same guidance notes that schools must ensure all teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic have appropriate KHDA approval to teach them, so this is the one area where asking about a credential matters more than asking about syllabus history. For Diploma Arabic A or Arabic B, the IB subject guide applies instead.

Why do schools run separate Arabic classes for Arab and non-Arab students?+

Because the curriculum expectations and the language of instruction are different. KHDA's requirements state that for Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs, and that combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited. Standard Arabic is the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language, while non-Arabs study Islamic Education and Moral, Social and Cultural studies in the school's licensed-curriculum language. Knowing which stream your child sits in tells a tutor which content and which language to work in.

Is private tutoring lawful in the UAE if the lesson happens over video?+

Private tutoring is lawful and it is licensed. The route is the MoHRE private tuition work permit under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years, with eligible applicants including teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Tutoring without a permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws. Nothing in the published material makes the permit optional, so a provider telling you the sector is unregulated is either mistaken or hoping you will not check. Ask for the permit either way.

What should I send when I ask for a tutoring quote?+

Five things, and the quote stops being a guess. The emirate and the school, so the authority and the inspection report can be identified. The subject, the level and the exam board, with the syllabus code if you have it. The nearest real deadline, whether that is a mock, an internal coursework date or the examination session itself. One piece of recently marked work. And the two or three times in the week that genuinely work for the family. Anyone quoting without those is pricing a stranger, and the first lesson goes on diagnosis you have already paid for.

Should the equivalency certificate be sorted before or after results come out?+

Start the file before results and finish it after. The documents a family can gather early, meaning passport and residency copies, school letters, attested transcripts and the record of which accredited subjects the student is entered for, take longer than the certificate itself. Checking in the first term of the final year that the entered subjects will satisfy the published requirement is the part that actually prevents a problem. IB Gram does not submit, perform or guarantee any part of equivalency or attestation; that is the Ministry's process, and the authority's own channel is the only place to confirm it.

Can lessons be booked around prayer times and the school run?+

Yes, and it is worth being specific when you ask. Give the two or three windows that genuinely work on a weekday, allowing for the school run, prayer times and the point at which a teenager can still concentrate. Slots run on Gulf Standard Time and start on the minute, because nobody is driving to get there, and they can move to post-Iftar timing during Ramadan. A shorter session is also viable without travel in the fee, so an hour of timed questions midweek plus forty minutes on coursework later in the week is a realistic pattern.

Dubai froze school fees for 2026-27. Does that change what tutoring costs?+

Not directly, but it changes the budget conversation. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package. School fees are therefore the fixed line and tutoring is the variable one. Market rates read in October 2026 run from AED 33-65 an hour at the budget online end to AED 200-450 and above for specialist support, with visiting tutors at AED 180-500. Those are other providers' published figures; our rate is agreed after the free trial lesson.

What happens if we stop after the first lesson?+

Nothing is owed. The trial lesson is forty-five minutes, one per student, needs no card details, and ends with written notes on what the tutor found, whether or not you carry on. If you do carry on, the weekly slot is agreed afterwards and the plan is reviewed against the school's own assessment calendar every six to eight weeks. If the match is wrong, whether on personality, pace, or a tutor who turns out to lack the Higher Level depth the course needs, say so and we change the tutor rather than asking the student to adapt.

Does my child have to sit the exams at a centre near us?+

Examinations are sat in person at a centre, and for most students that is their own school. A private candidate has to be entered through a centre that accepts external candidates, and the entry deadline sits a long way ahead of the papers: Cambridge's final entries for the March 2027 series were due on 27 November 2026, roughly ten weeks before an examination period of 3 February to 4 March 2027. Tuition can be delivered over live video from anywhere, but the entry and the room cannot. Confirm both with the examinations officer rather than assuming the school has it covered.

Flag of the UAE

Start with the authority, then the syllabus, then the slot

If you take one thing from this page, take the order of operations. Name the body that licenses your child's school and read its published report. Name the subject, the level, the exam board and the guide. Check the real deadlines: the board's entry date, the school's internal coursework dates, the equivalency file. Then choose a tutor against those facts rather than against a map. Send us the subject, the level and the nearest deadline, and we will match a specialist who has taught that course, run a free forty-five-minute trial lesson one-to-one over live video, and tell you plainly if nobody is available for what you need.
