IB IGCSE Tutor for Universal American School Students in Dubai

Looking for an IB IGCSE tutor for Universal American School students in Dubai usually means one of two things: a semester grade that is slipping, or a documentation gap nobody noticed. This page covers both — what a UAE-based American-track student has to be able to show, what a late gap costs to close, and what tutoring costs in AED with every figure sourced. Lessons are one-to-one over live video.

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

A grade problem and a paperwork problem look nothing alike

Universal American School sits at Dubai Festival City and runs an American high-school programme with the International Baccalaureate Diploma available alongside it. Families here arrive at tutoring from two quite different directions. The first is familiar: a semester grade slipping, a course that stopped making sense, an Advanced Placement examination approaching. The second is less familiar and more expensive when it goes wrong: a documentation requirement that nobody checked until the final year, by which point the remedy involves a test date rather than a tutor.

The second is worth taking seriously because the American track in the UAE carries requirements expressed in test scores rather than in subject counts. The sourced position is specific: English proficiency is shown through a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying. A student can therefore hold an entirely respectable transcript and still have nothing that satisfies that, because a transcript grade is not a test score.

Nobody in this market writes about it. Four of the ten query clusters researched for this cluster contain no mention of equivalency at all, and one page that does mention it publishes an incorrect figure for a different track. That silence is worth filling, with the proper caveats: this is a documentation process run by the authorities, not something a tutoring provider performs, guarantees or accelerates, and tutoring is not a requirement for it. What tutoring can affect is whether a qualifying score exists by the time it is needed.

On the money side, lead with the monthly figure, because that is what a household budgets against. Published market estimates for a single weekly one-hour session put budget support at roughly AED 240 to 600 a month, a mid-range qualified tutor at roughly AED 600 to 1,200, and specialist examination-year support at roughly AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more. Hourly equivalents and provider models are set out further down, with every figure attributed to the source that published it in October 2026.

IB Gram supports Universal American School families with one-to-one lessons over live video on Gulf Standard Time. It does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service that exists only in India, and that position appears on every country page this site publishes. No statement about the UAE VAT treatment of tuition fees appears here, because that requires a Federal Tax Authority citation; ask any provider in writing whether a figure is inclusive. Nor does any fine amount for unpermitted tutoring appear, because the ministry published no schedule and the figure circulating online could not be verified against an official source. Those absences are deliberate, and on a page that mixes money with regulatory requirements they are the part worth noticing: a provider willing to publish one number it cannot source will publish others, and a parent then has no way of telling which figures were read from a document.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Four things a household here may be managing at once. Each has its own assessment logic and its own cost pattern, which is why naming the right one first matters.

HSAges 14-18 · Grades 9-12

American high-school diploma courses

Credit-bearing courses graded per semester and accumulated into a transcript with a weighted grade point average. Assessment is continuous — tests, projects, participation and finals — with the balance set by the course rather than by an external board.

Grades accumulate and a closed semester cannot be reopened, only diluted by later ones. The budget consequence is that support bought in week two of a semester is doing something a term's worth of support in week twelve cannot, which is the reverse of how most households deploy it.

APAges 15-18 · Grades 10-12

Advanced Placement examinations

Single-subject external examinations scored from one to five, sat in May, independent of the transcript grade for the same course. A strong class grade does not predict a strong score, because the two measure different things.

That makes a short targeted block before May better value than year-round general help: past papers against the published rubric, with the free-response sections prioritised because that is where class-strong students lose points. Six to eight sessions is a realistic scope for one examination.

DPAges 16-19 · Grades 11-12

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three Higher and three Standard, plus the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and CAS, scored out of 45 with 24 as the diploma minimum and up to three bonus points from the core matrix. Internal assessment carries weight in every subject.

No IB points threshold for Ministry of Education equivalency could be verified from any official source for this project, so none is published here even though a competitor page publishes one. For an IB case, ask the ministry directly rather than planning around a figure found on a tutoring site.

TESTAges 15-18 · Grades 10-12

Standardised tests

The SAT, and English proficiency tests where required. Technique rather than content: question-type recognition, pacing, strategic omission, and handling the format. Separate from coursework ability in both directions.

In the UAE these carry a documentation function as well as an admissions one, because the sourced equivalency requirements cite at least 450 in SAT Math and allow 450 in SAT reading and writing as one of three routes to the English requirement. That makes the test calendar a planning item from Grade 10 rather than Grade 12.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Below, the courses and components this catchment asks about, each with the note that determines how tutoring should be scoped and priced rather than only what it covers.

High-school mathematics, Grades 9-12

Regular and honours

Graded continuously, so the marks that matter accumulate from week three of every semester. Preventive support inside a semester is worth more than remedial support after it, and the rung on the price ladder can be lower because the content is mainstream.

High-school sciences, Grades 9-12

Regular and honours

Lab reports and projects often carry a defined share of the semester grade, so ask how the grade is composed before assuming where the problem is. A student losing marks on write-ups rather than tests needs a different intervention entirely.

AP Calculus AB and BC

Advanced Placement

Multiple-choice and free-response sections scored one to five, independent of the class grade. The free-response rubric awards marks for stated reasoning and correct notation, so a student who writes only answers loses points they had effectively earned.

AP sciences and AP Statistics

Advanced Placement

Free-response sections reward experimental reasoning and justified conclusions rather than recall, which is where class-strong students lose points. Past-paper work against the published rubric is the dependable preparation and it is a block, not a year.

IB Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Standard Level two papers at forty per cent each plus the Exploration at twenty; Higher Level three papers at thirty, thirty and twenty plus the Exploration. Paper 3 at Higher Level is the least practised component in the Diploma and where a specialist rate earns itself.

IB Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Same weighting structure, modelling and statistics instead of the heavier pure content. Students from an American middle-school sequence often find this the more natural transition, because statistical reasoning appears earlier in that curriculum.

IB sciences: Physics, Chemistry, Biology

HL and SL

Paper 1 at thirty-six per cent including a data-analysis section, Paper 2 at forty-four, investigation at twenty with a 3,000-word cap marked across four criteria at six marks each. The investigation planning session is the cheapest high-value purchase in the subject.

IB English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Standard Level Paper 1 at thirty-five per cent, Paper 2 at thirty-five, Individual Oral at thirty; Higher Level adds the HL Essay at twenty. The oral is rehearsable, which makes it the best value per hour in the subject.

SAT Math

Grades 10-12

Technique and pacing rather than new content, with a documentation function in the UAE because the sourced equivalency requirement cites at least 450. Full-length timed practice is the only reliable evidence of where points are going.

SAT Reading and Writing, IELTS and TOEFL

Grades 10-12

Three alternative routes to the English requirement on the American track: 450 in SAT reading and writing, 5 in the IELTS academic test, or 61 in the TOEFL iBT. Which is easiest varies by student, and that choice is itself worth one session.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three arrangements, all delivered online and one-to-one. The first is about documents rather than teaching, and it is the one most likely to be needed urgently and bought late.

A test-calendar and documents session

One or two sessions, usually in Grade 10 or 11, spent establishing which qualifying scores a student will need and when the realistic sittings are. Not an administrative service: a tutor cannot perform or guarantee any equivalency process. What this does is identify the gap while there is still time to close it.

  • Which qualifying score routes apply, read from the published requirement
  • Which test the student is most likely to clear, and by when
  • Verification pointed to the Ministry of Education's own channel

Preventive support inside a semester

For transcript courses, where grades accumulate and a recorded semester cannot be reopened. One session a week from the start of a semester rather than after the first disappointing report, because the value here is keeping a grade from being set rather than recovering from one already set.

  • Starts in week one or two of a semester, not week eight
  • A fixed weekday and hour on Gulf Standard Time
  • Work set between sessions and marked before the next one

A block before an external sitting

Six to eight sessions before an Advanced Placement examination or an SAT date, built on full timed papers against the published rubric with losses counted. Priced as a block with a visible finish. No score is promised, because no tutor can promise one.

  • Opens with a full timed paper to establish a baseline
  • Free-response or section technique prioritised explicitly
  • Full-length practice placed at the weekend, not after a commute

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What a UAE-based American-track student has to be able to show

Equivalency is the process by which a school certificate earned on an international curriculum is recognised in the UAE, and it is almost entirely absent from this search result. For a family on the American track the requirements are expressed as test scores rather than as a subject count, which is the detail that catches people. A transcript documents coursework; it does not produce a score on an external test, and the requirement is for a score.

The sourced position is specific. English proficiency is shown through a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT. Mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying. The article from which those figures were read names no EmSAT requirement and states no IB points threshold. Any figure not on that list should be treated as unverified until read on the ministry's own channel.

By contrast, the British track is a subject count: five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education specifically excluded from those five, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. One ranking competitor states six IGCSE subjects; the published clarification said five. That is a useful illustration of why a figure on a tutoring page is not a planning basis.

Three cautions belong with all of this. Equivalency is a documentation process run by the authorities, and no tutoring provider performs it, guarantees it or accelerates it. Tutoring is not required for equivalency, and any suggestion that it is amounts to a false-urgency claim about a regulatory process. And your own case should be verified through the Ministry of Education's own channel, because individual circumstances vary and requirements are revised.

What a documentation gap costs if it is found late

The expensive version of this problem is discovering in the final semester of Grade 12 that no qualifying score exists. At that point the remedy is not tutoring; it is a test date, and test dates are finite. Whatever preparation is possible has to fit between the discovery and the next available sitting, which may be weeks away, and the sitting itself may fall after an application deadline the family was working towards.

The cheap version is finding out in Grade 10. A student who knows in Grade 10 that a mathematics score of at least 450 will be needed has two years, several available sittings, and the option of taking the test once without pressure to see where they stand. The preparation itself is modest: technique, pacing and question-type recognition rather than new content, which is a block rather than a programme. The cost difference between the two versions is mostly not money. It is optionality.

There is also a choice inside the English requirement that is worth one session of thought. Three routes exist — IELTS at 5, TOEFL iBT at 61, or SAT reading and writing at 450 — and which is easiest genuinely varies by student. A student already preparing for the SAT for admissions purposes may clear the reading and writing threshold without any additional work. A student who finds timed multiple-choice reading difficult may do better on a different format. Choosing deliberately rather than defaulting is free and occasionally saves the whole problem.

What a tutor can honestly do here is identify the requirement, help choose the route, teach the technique and prepare the student under timed conditions. What no tutor can do is guarantee a score, perform the equivalency process, or accelerate anything administrative. Anybody offering those is describing something they do not control, and on a regulatory process that is the specific claim to walk away from.

Carrying the American diploma and the IB Diploma at once

At a school offering both, some students take the IB Diploma alongside the high-school diploma requirements, and the workload question deserves more care than it usually gets. The IB Diploma is six subjects, three Higher and three Standard, plus an Extended Essay of up to 4,000 words, a Theory of Knowledge course examined through an essay of up to 1,600 words and an exhibition commentary of up to 950, and CAS, which carries no points but blocks the diploma if incomplete. The high-school diploma brings its own credit requirements and continuous assessment.

The two interact awkwardly in one specific respect: timing. The transcript rewards consistency across every semester, and the IB Diploma concentrates its demands at the end and in internal assessment clusters. A student carrying both has no quiet terms. The autumn of Grade 12 in particular combines internal assessment finals, the Extended Essay submission, mock examinations and a semester of transcript grades that will still appear on the document a university reads.

Where tutoring helps is in triage rather than in volume. Adding more sessions to a student already carrying both is usually counterproductive, because the hours are the binding constraint rather than the money. What works is a short block on whichever component is both high-weighted and fast-moving — an internal assessment planning session, an oral rehearsal, a Theory of Knowledge essay structure conversation — and a deliberate decision about what gets less attention during a cluster week.

A note on what to ask the school. Confirm which requirements the IB Diploma satisfies within the high-school programme and which still have to be completed separately, because that varies and it changes the total load materially. That is a question for the counsellor rather than a tutor, it costs nothing, and the answer sometimes removes a requirement a family had assumed was unavoidable.

04

Market bands and where the money goes on each track

Hourly figures, read in October 2026 from published sources. Budget online platforms and university-student tutors between roughly AED 45 and 150 an hour, with some entry rates quoted from AED 33. A qualified subject tutor online at roughly AED 150 to 300, one agency publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. A named IB, IGCSE or A Level specialist at roughly AED 200 to 450 or more, one agency publishing AED 270. In-home one-to-one visits including travel at roughly AED 180 to 500. One provider publishes AED 650 at the premium end.

Those belong to the providers that published them, and quoting one is not an endorsement. They appear here because three of the six pages competing for searches like this one publish no price at all and the two that do quote in US dollars, which no Dubai household budgets in. One agency's own frequently asked questions poses the cost question and then declines to answer it.

Where the money goes differs by track, and that is the more useful observation. On the transcript track the efficient spend is early and preventive within a semester, at a mid-band rate, because the content is mainstream and the problem is usually drift rather than depth. On the Advanced Placement track it is a block before May, because the score is independent of the class grade and the preparation is rubric technique. On the IB track it is a named component with a published weighting, because the untimed criteria-marked ones move fastest. On the test track it is a block plus full-length timed practice.

What all four have in common is that none of them is well served by an open-ended weekly commitment nobody re-examines. Monthly estimates for a single weekly session run roughly AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-range and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist examination-year support, and an arrangement bought in October and never reviewed will quietly reach the top of whichever band it started in without anybody deciding to.

Standardised-test preparation, and what it honestly is

  • Test technique is separate from coursework ability, in both directions
  • In the UAE a qualifying score is a Grade 10 or 11 planning item
  • Full-length timed practice belongs at the weekend, not after a commute
  • No tutor can promise a score; ask for a baseline and a comparison

SAT preparation is not a subject. It is a set of techniques: recognising question types quickly, pacing across a timed section, deciding what to leave, and handling a format that behaves differently from a classroom test. Those are learnable and they are separate from coursework ability in both directions. A student with strong mathematics grades can lose points to pacing; a student with modest grades can gain points from technique alone.

In the UAE it carries the documentation function described earlier, which changes when it should happen. A score needed for equivalency purposes is not a Grade 12 problem; it is a Grade 10 or 11 planning item, because sittings are finite and a first attempt taken calmly is worth more than a compressed attempt under deadline pressure. Families who treat the test calendar as an admissions matter alone discover the documentation angle late, which is the expensive version.

On logistics, the constraint in this catchment is the full-length sitting. Practice must include complete timed papers, and a multi-hour sitting after a Dubai afternoon commute measures fatigue rather than ability. Weekend mornings are the right home for them in every community on this page except those immediately around Festival City. Midweek sessions then handle technique, review and question-type work, which survive a late arrival.

And the thing this page will not do: promise a score. No tutor can guarantee a specific result on any external examination, and anybody offering a target score as a commitment is making a claim they do not control. What is honest is a baseline from a full timed paper, a comparison after four weeks, and a statement of what has moved. Ask for those instead of a promise, and treat the promise itself as a reason to look elsewhere.

06

The five price questions, and what free should mean

Five questions settle almost any price conversation and should be answered in writing. Does the figure include VAT. Is the rate per hour or per session, and how long is a session. What happens if we stop after one month. Who marks work between sessions, against what, and is that time inside the rate. And what happens if the matched tutor becomes unavailable, including whether a written risk list hands over.

This page states nothing about the UAE VAT treatment of tuition fees, because doing so responsibly requires a Federal Tax Authority citation and there is none on offer here. What a parent can always do is require the inclusive or exclusive position in the quote itself. Likewise, convert any monthly package to a cost per contact hour before comparing it with an hourly rate: advertised packages in this market include around AED 799 for eight online sessions and roughly AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions, and the second buys eight hours of contact while the first buys eight sessions of unstated length.

On anything described as free, the condition belongs on the same screen as the word. A trial lesson should be free without a card requirement, a minimum booking or a commitment appearing afterwards. Ours is one lesson with the matched tutor before anything is paid, with the parent able to listen in, and its purpose is to find out whether your child can follow this person's explanation.

And if a provider publishes a rating, a satisfaction percentage or a student count, ask for the sample size, the date and the method. Several pages researched in this market publish figures with none of the three; one shows two different ratings and review counts in the same document. A figure without an n and a date is not evidence, and review markup not backed by real, dated, attributable reviews is both a structured-data violation and a consumer-protection exposure.

07

Materials, authorship and the position of this site

Subject guides, specifications, past papers, mark schemes, rubrics and grade-boundary tables belong to the bodies that publish them. A provider distributing them as downloads is reproducing copyrighted material, and for unreleased papers it is a malpractice exposure as well. Reference and link so that a parent reads the authoritative document rather than somebody's summary of it. Everything factual on this page should be confirmed that way.

On assessed work the line is authorship. A tutor may teach content, explain each criterion in the board's published wording, show how a comparable piece is built, read a draft the student has written and name which criterion it misses, and teach them to fix it themselves. A tutor may not write the internal assessment, draft the Extended Essay, or edit a piece to completion so the words become theirs. On the transcript track the same applies to projects, lab reports and coursework that carry a grade.

A page in this search result sells completed internal assessment work at a fixed price. Submitting work that is not the candidate's own is malpractice under the board's rules, and the finding lands on the student's qualification rather than the seller's business. Measured against two years of work, a transcript and a set of documents, nothing else in this market costs as much as that purchase does.

And position, including on the documentation question, because this is exactly where overclaiming would be tempting. IB Gram does not perform, guarantee or accelerate any equivalency or attestation process, and tutoring is not a requirement for one. IB Gram is not approved, accredited, licensed or partnered by the International Baccalaureate, Cambridge International, Pearson, the College Board, the Ministry of Education, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, the Department of Education and Knowledge, the Sharjah Private Education Authority or the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It holds no such relationship, claims none, operates no premises in the UAE, has no arrangement with any school named here, and promises no examination score.

08

Getting started

Two questions first, both free and neither involving a tutor. Ask the school counsellor which qualifying test scores your child will need and by when, and ask which high-school diploma requirements the IB Diploma satisfies if both are being carried. Those two answers determine whether the pressing problem is a grade or a document, and they frequently surprise families who assumed the paperwork was handled.

Then, if the problem is a grade, say which track it sits on and how the grade is composed. A transcript course two-thirds assessed is largely set, and that is worth knowing before buying twelve weeks of support for it. An Advanced Placement score is independent of the class grade, so the preparation is different. An IB component has a published weighting, so the target can be chosen on arithmetic rather than on discomfort.

Then run the trial lesson in the slot you actually intend to use rather than a convenient demonstration hour, because the Dubai afternoon commute is the real constraint on whether an arrangement survives a term. Insist on a diagnostic in the first fortnight — a timed paper or a marked draft, returned with losses attributed by cause — and a written risk list reviewed monthly with the marked work attached.

And the standing limit. No tutor is sent to a Festival City address or anywhere else in the UAE; lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. The reason to choose that format here is not convenience: it is that a documentation question, an Advanced Placement rubric and an IB internal assessment criterion each need somebody who has worked with that specific thing, and that is a question about competence rather than about distance.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

Communities around Festival City, noted for the practical variable in this catchment: whether a full-length timed practice paper is viable midweek or belongs at the weekend.

Dubai Festival City

Immediately around the school, with the shortest journey in the catchment. A weekday full-length practice sitting is realistic here, which matters on a track where both Advanced Placement and SAT preparation need complete timed papers.

Ras Al Khor and Al Jaddaf

Across the creek side with a short, peak-sensitive run. Teaching sessions from 17:00 work on most days, and full-length practice is better placed on a weekend morning than after a variable commute.

Mirdif and Al Warqa

Established villa communities on the eastern side with a longer afternoon. Two school runs are common, which pushes the household's earliest usable hour past 17:00 and rules out weekday timed sittings.

Deira and Al Qusais

Northern districts with short distances and heavy local congestion. Journey times vary enough day to day that a fixed online slot holds where an arrival time does not.

Nad Al Hamar and Rashidiya

Close to the airport corridor with predictable peaks. Reliable rather than fast, which suits a protected weekly slot and a weekend morning reserved for practice papers.

Downtown and Business Bay

Apartment living with a busy but dependable commute. The constraint is usually a quiet space rather than travel, which argues for a session before the household's busiest hour.

Dubai Silicon Oasis and Academic City

South-eastern communities on the Al Ain road corridor with a longer afternoon. Weekday sessions should be shorter and technique-focused rather than full-length.

Nad Al Sheba and Meydan

Villa communities reached on the Ras Al Khor and Al Khail roads. Moderate but variable, so the weekend morning carries the timed work and the weekday evening carries review.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Ask the counsellor which scores are needed, and by when

Free, and it determines whether the pressing problem is a grade or a document. The sourced American-track requirement cites at least 450 in SAT Math and English through IELTS 5, TOEFL iBT 61 or SAT reading and writing 450. A respectable transcript with no qualifying score is a gap, not a grade problem.

  2. 02

    Choose the English route deliberately

Three routes exist and which is easiest genuinely varies by student. Somebody already preparing for the SAT may clear the reading and writing threshold incidentally; somebody who finds timed multiple-choice reading hard may do better on a different format. Choosing rather than defaulting is free and occasionally removes the problem.

  3. 03

Name the track and how the grade is composed

A transcript course, an Advanced Placement examination, an IB component or a standardised test. For a transcript course also ask what proportion of the semester grade remains unassessed, because a grade two-thirds set cannot be substantially changed by anything bought now.

  4. 04

Buy a block, not an open commitment

Advanced Placement and SAT preparation are six to eight session blocks with a visible finish. IB components have published weightings and therefore natural scopes. An open-ended weekly arrangement nobody re-examines drifts to the top of its band without anybody deciding to spend more.

  5. 05

Run the trial in the real slot and demand a diagnostic

The weekday and hour you intend to keep, with you able to listen in. Then a timed paper or marked draft in the first fortnight, returned with losses attributed by cause rather than listed by topic, and a written risk list reviewed monthly with the scripts attached.

  6. 06

Keep full-length practice at the weekend

A multi-hour sitting after a Dubai afternoon commute measures fatigue rather than ability. Midweek sessions handle technique, review and question-type work; weekend mornings carry the complete timed papers that produce the only reliable evidence of where points are going.

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The documentation question treated as a real one

The American track's requirements are test scores, not subject counts, and a transcript does not produce one. Four of the ten query clusters researched in this market do not mention equivalency at all, which leaves a gap a family only discovers when it is expensive.

The cost of finding out late, laid out

In Grade 10 the remedy is a calm block with several sittings available. In the final semester of Grade 12 the remedy is a test date that may fall after an application deadline. The difference is mostly not money; it is optionality, and it is entirely a function of when anybody checked.

Figures quoted only where sourced

SAT Math 450, IELTS 5, TOEFL iBT 61, SAT reading and writing 450, and five IGCSE passes at E or grade 3 on the British track. No IB points threshold, because none could be verified, even though a competitor page publishes one and another states the wrong subject count.

No claim to perform anything administrative

Equivalency and attestation are run by the authorities. No tutoring provider performs, guarantees or accelerates them, and tutoring is not a requirement for them. Any suggestion otherwise is a false-urgency claim about a regulatory process, which is the specific thing to walk away from.

The efficient spend identified per track

Preventive and early on a transcript, a block before May for Advanced Placement, a named component for the IB, a block plus timed practice for a test. None of the four is well served by an open weekly commitment nobody re-examines after October.

No score promised, ever

Technique and pacing are teachable and full timed practice produces real evidence, but no tutor can guarantee a result on an external examination. Ask for a baseline and a four-week comparison instead, and treat a promised score as a reason to look elsewhere.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

What documents does a Universal American School student need for UAE equivalency?+

On the American track the sourced requirements are test scores rather than a subject count. English proficiency is shown through a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying. A transcript documents coursework and does not produce a test score, so a strong transcript with no qualifying score is a gap. Verify your own case with the Ministry of Education.

Why is a documentation gap so much worse when found in Grade 12?+

Because the remedy is a test date rather than a tutor, and test dates are finite. A student who finds out in Grade 10 has two years, several sittings and the option of a calm first attempt to see where they stand. One who finds out in the final semester of Grade 12 may have one sitting available, possibly falling after an application deadline. The cost difference is mostly optionality rather than money, and it depends entirely on when anybody checked.

Does a tutor visit homes in Dubai Festival City?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service that exists only in India. Lessons are taught one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. Dubai's in-home market publishes roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour against roughly AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online subject tutor, read in October 2026. For a rubric, a criterion or a test format, the relevant question is whether the tutor has worked with that specific thing.

Which English test route should my child take?+

Whichever they are most likely to clear, and that genuinely varies. Three routes exist on the sourced requirement: 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the SAT reading and writing section. A student already preparing for the SAT for admissions may clear that threshold without additional work. A student who finds timed multiple-choice reading hard may do better on a different format. Choosing deliberately rather than defaulting costs nothing.

Can a tutoring provider handle the equivalency process?+

No, and any claim to the contrary should end the conversation. Equivalency and attestation are documentation processes run by the authorities, and no tutoring provider performs, guarantees or accelerates them. Tutoring is also not a requirement for equivalency; suggesting that it is amounts to a false-urgency claim about a regulatory process. What tutoring can affect is whether a qualifying test score exists by the time it is needed, which is a different and narrower thing.

Why is there no IB points figure for equivalency here?+

Because no official source for one could be verified for this project. The published clarification that was read sets out requirements for the British and American tracks and names no IB points threshold, and the International Baccalaureate's own site returns an error to automated checking. A competitor page publishes a figure and another states the wrong IGCSE subject count, which is why a number on a tutoring page is not a planning basis. Ask the ministry directly.

When should transcript-course tutoring be bought?+

Weeks one to four of a semester, before the grade is substantially set. Because semester grades accumulate and cannot be reopened once recorded, the value here is preventive rather than remedial. Before committing, ask what proportion of the semester grade is still unassessed: a grade two-thirds determined cannot be substantially changed by twelve weeks of support, however good. That single question has saved families a term's worth of spending.

My child has an A in the class but a weak AP practice score. How is that possible?+

Not reliably. The Advanced Placement score comes from a single external examination in May, reported from one to five, and is independent of the transcript grade for the same course. Preparation is a different activity from doing well in class: past papers against the published rubric, with the free-response sections prioritised because that is where class-strong students lose points. Six to eight sessions is a realistic block for one examination, with a baseline from a full timed paper.

How should a student carrying both diplomas allocate tutoring?+

By triage rather than by volume, because hours are the binding constraint rather than money. A student carrying the IB Diploma alongside high-school requirements has no quiet terms, and the autumn of Grade 12 combines internal assessment finals, the Extended Essay, mocks and a semester of transcript grades. A short block on a component that is both high-weighted and fast-moving beats adding sessions, and a deliberate decision about what gets less attention during a cluster week is essential.

What should I ask the counsellor about carrying both programmes?+

Which high-school diploma requirements the IB Diploma satisfies, and which still have to be completed separately. That varies between schools and it changes the total load materially. It is a question for the counsellor rather than a tutor, it costs nothing, and the answer sometimes removes a requirement a family had assumed was unavoidable. Ask it before planning any tutoring around a load that may be smaller than it looks.

How much does tutoring cost monthly in this catchment?+

Published market estimates for a single weekly one-hour session put budget support at roughly AED 240 to 600 a month, a mid-range qualified tutor at roughly AED 600 to 1,200, and specialist examination-year support at roughly AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more. Hourly, a qualified online subject tutor sits at roughly AED 150 to 300 and a named specialist at roughly AED 200 to 450 or more. Those are market figures read in October 2026, not IB Gram prices.

Can a tutor guarantee my child reaches 450 in SAT Math?+

No, and anybody who offers that is making a claim they do not control. What is honest is that technique and pacing are teachable, that full-length timed practice is the only reliable way to see where points are going, and that a focused block started in Grade 10 or 11 gives room for a repeat sitting if needed. Ask for a baseline from a complete timed paper and a comparison after four weeks rather than a promise about an outcome.

Where should full-length practice papers be sat?+

At the weekend, for every community in this catchment except those immediately around Festival City. A multi-hour sitting after a Dubai afternoon commute measures fatigue rather than ability, and the resulting score tells you almost nothing useful. Midweek sessions should handle technique, review and question-type work, which survive a late arrival. Protecting one weekend morning for complete timed papers is the single most useful scheduling decision on this track.

What should a trial lesson at this school establish?+

Whether your child can follow this person's explanation, and whether the tutor thinks in rubrics, criteria and question types rather than in general encouragement. Ask what the free-response rubric rewards, or which IB investigation criterion cannot be repaired after data collection. Run it in the slot you actually intend to keep rather than a convenient demonstration hour, because the commute is the real constraint on whether the arrangement lasts a term.

Check the documents, then price the teaching

For a Universal American School family the cheapest move costs nothing: ask the counsellor which qualifying test scores your child needs and by when, and which high-school requirements the IB Diploma satisfies if both are being carried. Those answers tell you whether the pressing problem is a grade or a document. Then name the track, buy a block rather than an open commitment, run the trial in the real slot and insist on a diagnostic in the first fortnight. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; nobody is sent to a Festival City address.
