IB 7 in Maths Coaching in the UAE

IB 7 in maths coaching in the UAE is a narrow, measurable job: find the marks your child is losing, price the hours needed to recover them, and work through them one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. This page publishes what that costs in AED, what drives the number up or down, and what a 7 in Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation actually demands at SL and HL.

  • Every UAE lesson runs one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time
  • Market AED rates are published on this page, each attributed to its source
  • Exploration support is coaching and feedback on the student's own draft
  • A free trial lesson first, with no card details asked for

IB & IGCSE in the UAE

What a 7 in IB Maths costs, and what the money is actually buying

A 7 is the top band of the IB's 1-7 scale, and in Mathematics it is awarded on a scaled total rather than a percentage. Grade boundaries shift a little each session and the IB publishes them to schools after marking, so no honest page can print the exact number your child needs. What can be stated is the shape of the problem. At SL, two papers carry 40% each and the mathematical exploration carries the remaining fifth. At HL, three papers share 80% and the exploration carries 20%. Every mark is bought with one identifiable skill, and coaching hours are worth paying for only when they are spent on the skills your child is currently losing marks on.

That turns the price question into something you can actually audit. The UAE market charges roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour for a budget online tutor, AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor working online, and AED 200 to 450 or more for an IB, IGCSE or A-Level specialist. Those bands come from published competitor rate cards and from Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table, not from us. The useful figure is not the hourly rate. It is the rate multiplied by the number of hours the gap genuinely needs, divided by the marks those hours can reasonably recover.

Most families overpay in one of two ways. The first is buying a cheap general hour every week for two years, which keeps a student level at a 5 and never addresses the two topics costing them the grade. The second is buying a premium hour at AED 500 or more for work that a competent subject tutor could do in the same time: marking past papers, drilling algebraic fluency, or reading an exploration draft against the criteria. Scarcity pricing and a personal brand are real, but they are not the same thing as a higher mark.

The cheapest marks in IB Mathematics are almost always in the exploration and in Paper 1 technique. The exploration is 20 marks against five published criteria, marked internally and moderated by the IB, and a student who writes correct mathematics pitched below course level will cap Criterion E no matter how many hours of revision they do afterwards. Paper 1 in Analysis and Approaches is sat without technology, so a student who has quietly learned the calculator route to every answer loses a third of the HL paper mark on skills that take weeks, not days, to rebuild. Both are diagnosable from one marked mock.

IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform with no affiliation to the IB, to Cambridge, to Pearson or to any named school. We do not send a tutor to an address in Dubai, Abu Dhabi or anywhere else in the UAE; home visits are a service we offer only in India. Every UAE lesson runs one-to-one over live video, which is also why a family in Ras Al Khaimah can work with an Analysis and Approaches HL specialist instead of whoever lives within a reasonable drive. The sections below price the work, count the hours backwards from the session, and set out exactly where the academic-honesty line sits on exploration support.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Maths does not start mattering in DP1. The route a student can realistically take at 16, Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, is largely set by the fluency they arrive with. These are the four IB programmes UAE schools run, read through the single question of where the numbers go wrong.

PYPAges 3-12 · Foundation to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-led number work, measurement and early data handling, assessed by the school rather than by the IB. Nothing here appears on a transcript. What it decides is whether times tables, fractions and negative numbers are automatic by Year 7, because a student who still computes 7 x 8 deliberately will spend their Paper 1 time on arithmetic instead of on method. Coaching at this stage is fluency and confidence, in short sessions.

UAE PYP schools run alongside the mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies blocks, which KHDA counts in 40-minute lesson units. In practice a Dubai PYP week already carries a second language load, so additional maths work is best kept to two short weekday slots rather than one long weekend session.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Mathematics is assessed against four criteria: knowing and understanding, investigating patterns, communicating, and applying mathematics in real-world contexts. Years 9 and 10 split into standard and extended routes, and that split is what determines whether Analysis and Approaches HL is open two years later. The MYP maths to DP maths transition is the most common reason a UAE student arrives in DP1 with a reported 6 and a real 4.

MYP eAssessment is optional and not every UAE school enters students for it, so a Dubai or Sharjah family often has no external benchmark before DP1 begins. Ask the school for the extended-route decision in writing in Year 9. That single piece of paper tells you whether the AA HL door is still open.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Two maths courses, each at SL and HL, plus the mathematical exploration in all four. This is where a 7 is won or lost. Paper 1 in Analysis and Approaches is technology-free; every Applications and Interpretation paper permits a graphic display calculator. HL adds Paper 3, two extended problem-solving questions worth 20% of the grade, which rewards stamina and structure rather than new content.

UAE schools sit the May session, and the November session functions mainly as a retake route for students who miss a university offer. Exploration deadlines are set internally by each school, so a Deira International School deadline and a Raha International School deadline can sit six weeks apart. Your child's own calendar, not a generic one, sets the coaching plan.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

A smaller UAE cohort takes the CP, combining DP courses with a career-related study and a reflective project. Where maths appears, it is a full DP course and is marked identically, so a CP student aiming at a 7 in Applications and Interpretation SL sits the same two papers and submits the same 20-mark exploration as a full Diploma candidate.

CP students in the UAE frequently pair maths with business or design pathways, which makes Applications and Interpretation the common route. If the plan includes a UAE or overseas engineering degree later, check the programme's own entry page before assuming an AI grade satisfies it, because some faculties still list Analysis and Approaches.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Coaching for a 7 in maths rarely stays inside one syllabus line. The courses below are the ones UAE families book around a maths grade, including the two IGCSE codes that decide whether DP maths starts from solid ground and the subjects whose marks are really maths marks in disguise.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Proof, algebraic manipulation, functions, trigonometry and calculus. Paper 1 is sat without technology at both levels, which is where fluency gaps become visible. Marks go missing on algebraic slips inside otherwise correct method, and on calculus questions where the student can differentiate but cannot say what the derivative means in context.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling, statistics and interpretation, with a calculator permitted throughout. Maths AI SL is the most-taken route in UAE schools. Marks are lost less on arithmetic than on method conditions: choosing the wrong test, skipping the hypothesis statement, or reporting a regression result without commenting on what it means for the context given.

Mathematics AA HL Paper 3

HL only

Two extended problem-solving questions in 60 minutes, worth 20% of the HL grade. Paper 3 coaching is a separate skill from syllabus revision: students must hold a 20-mark build-up together, use earlier parts to reach later ones, and keep writing when the final part is not yet visible. Timed practice on full questions is the only route in.

The mathematical exploration

SL and HL, both routes

A 20-mark internally marked piece against five criteria, carrying a fifth of the final grade. IB Maths exploration coaching is topic interrogation, criteria wording and feedback on the student's own draft. The most expensive error is a topic whose mathematics sits below course level, which caps Criterion E before a word is written.

MYP Mathematics

Standard and extended

Four assessment criteria and a standard or extended split in Years 9 and 10 that decides DP route access. Coaching here is about pattern-investigation tasks and written communication, which most students have never been taught explicitly, and about closing arithmetic and algebra gaps while there is still time for them to close.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580

Core and Extended

Extended 0580 is the realistic minimum for Analysis and Approaches at HL. Core caps at grade C and leaves a student short of the algebra DP assumes. Marks are lost on multi-step algebra, on bearings and vectors, and on reading comprehension in longer structured questions rather than on the mathematics itself.

Cambridge IGCSE Additional Mathematics 0606

Extended only

The best available bridge into Analysis and Approaches HL: calculus, matrices, series and more demanding trigonometry a year early. Not every UAE school offers Cambridge IGCSE Additional Mathematics 0606, and a student who has not sat it can cover the same ground in a summer block before DP1 begins.

Physics

HL and SL

A physics grade at HL is frequently a maths grade. Students who cannot rearrange formulae under time pressure, read a log-log graph or handle uncertainties lose marks that look like physics marks. Pairing physics with Analysis and Approaches in the same week lets one coach fix the algebra once rather than twice.

Economics

HL and SL

HL economics adds quantitative questions on elasticity, cost curves and policy calculation. Students arriving from Applications and Interpretation usually have the statistics but not the algebraic confidence, and the internal assessment commentaries reward precise use of diagrams and data that maths coaching transfers to directly.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Logic, binary and hexadecimal conversion, Big-O reasoning and the HL abstract data structures paper all sit on mathematical foundations. Students who find recursion opaque usually find it opaque for the same reason they find sequences opaque, and the fix is sequences, taught properly, not more code.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Four ways UAE families buy maths coaching, all delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. The right one depends on how far the grade has to move and how many weeks are left, not on which sounds most thorough.

Weekly one-to-one, term-long

One 60 or 90-minute session a week across a term, working from the student's own class notes, marked papers and school deadlines. The default for a 6-to-7 push with 20 or more weeks in hand. Written notes follow each session so a parent can see what was covered and what was set, without sitting in the lesson.

  • 60 or 90 minutes, same slot each week, Gulf Standard Time
  • Built from the student's last marked mock, not from a generic syllabus order
  • An error log kept across sessions so repeated mistakes become visible
  • Market comparison: a qualified online subject tutor runs AED 150-300 an hour

Exploration coaching block

A short run of sessions timed to the school's internal exploration deadlines: topic interrogation first, then the mathematics the topic needs taught on different numbers, then criteria-by-criteria feedback on the student's own draft. The 20 marks here are the cheapest on the course and the ones schools have least time to supervise individually.

  • Topic viability checked against Criterion E before any writing starts
  • The technique the topic needs, taught on a parallel example
  • Feedback quoted against the criterion wording, not rewritten text
  • No draft is written, edited to completion or supplied by the coach

Paper 3 and exam-season intensive

Two sessions a week in the final eight to twelve weeks, run entirely on timed past-paper work and error triage. For HL students this is where Paper 3 coaching sits, because holding a 20-mark build-up together is a trainable skill that syllabus revision does not touch. Content teaching stops; marking and timing take over.

  • Full papers under exam timing, marked against the official mark scheme
  • Official papers referenced and linked, never reproduced or supplied as downloads
  • Each session opens on the errors from the last paper, not on new content
  • Plan can shift to post-Iftar slots during Ramadan

Paired maths and science scheduling

Analysis and Approaches HL and Physics HL booked back to back with the same coach where one is available for both, so the algebra underneath both subjects is fixed once. Families who book two separate tutors for these subjects usually pay twice for the same rearrangement and uncertainty work.

  • One diagnostic covering both subjects before the plan is written
  • Shared algebra and graph-reading work counted once, not twice
  • Separate coaches arranged if no single specialist covers both at HL
  • Scheduling fixed around the school's own assessment weeks

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in the UAE

01

What a 7 in IB Maths actually is, and what no page can tell you

  • Grade boundaries move each session and are published to schools, not to the public
  • A 6 is usually a composite of 7s, 5s and an unmarked exploration weakness
  • Diagnosis comes before pricing, from one marked paper and the school calendar
  • Ask any provider which component they will work on first, and why

A 7 in IB Mathematics is the top band of the 1-7 scale, awarded on a scaled total across all components after the IB sets grade boundaries for that session. The boundaries are not fixed year to year and are published to schools after marking, which means any site printing a precise percentage for a 7 is telling you something it cannot know. What is stable is the structure: at SL two papers and the exploration, at HL three papers and the exploration, with the exploration always carrying a fifth of the grade.

That structure is the only honest basis for a coaching budget. A student sitting on a 6 is almost never uniformly a 6. They are usually a 7 on two topics, a 5 on one, and a 4 on the exploration criteria nobody has explained to them. Marks lost in those three places are not interchangeable, and they do not cost the same number of hours to recover. Rebuilding algebraic fluency for a technology-free Paper 1 takes weeks of short, frequent practice. Lifting a Criterion D reflection mark takes one conversation and a redraft.

This is also where the cost conversation becomes answerable. If a coach cannot name which component your child is losing marks in after reading one marked paper, the hours you buy are being allocated by guesswork, and guesswork at AED 250 an hour is the most expensive thing on this page. Ask for the diagnosis before you ask for the price. A plan that says 'Paper 1 trigonometry and Criterion B notation, eight weeks' is worth paying for; 'general IB maths support, ongoing' is not.

No coach can promise a 7, and any provider offering an outcome in exchange for a fee should be treated with real scepticism. What can be promised is a clear read of where the marks are going, a written plan with the hours and the arithmetic visible, and honest notice when the remaining weeks are too few for the gap in question.

02

The papers you are buying hours against

Both IB maths routes are assessed the same way at the level of components: two written papers and the mathematical exploration at SL, three papers and the exploration at HL. The differences that matter for coaching are in what each paper permits and what it rewards. Analysis and Approaches Paper 1 is sat without technology at both levels, so it is a direct test of algebraic and calculus fluency. Every Applications and Interpretation paper permits a graphic display calculator, which moves the difficulty from computation to choosing the right method and interpreting the output.

HL Paper 3 is the component UAE students most often arrive at untrained. It is 60 minutes, two extended questions, and 20% of the grade. The questions are designed as build-ups: part (a) is accessible, part (f) depends on parts (c) and (d), and candidates who treat each part as independent lose the chain. Students who have practised only past Paper 1 and Paper 2 questions have never rehearsed the specific skill of staying inside one problem for 30 minutes, and that is a coachable skill with a measurable return.

The exploration is the component with the highest marks-per-hour ratio and the least classroom supervision. Twenty marks, five criteria, and a school deadline that is internal rather than set by the IB. A student who picks a topic whose mathematics sits below course level has capped Criterion E before writing anything, and no amount of polishing afterwards recovers those marks. The table below sets out the components, what each one actually tests, and where students in UAE schools most commonly lose the marks that separate a 6 from a 7.

Read it against your child's last marked mock rather than in the abstract. If the mock shows a strong Paper 2 and a weak Paper 1 in Analysis and Approaches, that is a technology-dependence diagnosis and it has a known fix. If both papers are even but the predicted grade is a 6, the exploration is almost certainly where the grade is sitting.

AA or AI, and what the wrong route costs later

The single most expensive decision in IB Mathematics is made before the course starts, usually in Year 11, and often on incomplete information. Analysis and Approaches is the proof, algebra and calculus route. Applications and Interpretation is the modelling, statistics and interpretation route. Neither is a soft option, and a 7 in Applications and Interpretation HL is a harder grade to earn than a 5 in Analysis and Approaches SL by any reasonable measure. What differs is which university doors stay open.

The honest position on university requirements is that they vary by faculty and change between admissions cycles, so the only reliable source is the programme's own entry page in the year your child applies. Engineering, physics, mathematics and quantitative economics degrees commonly list Analysis and Approaches, frequently at HL. Business, design, psychology and most social sciences commonly accept Applications and Interpretation. Do not take a tutor's summary as the requirement, including this one: check the page and keep a screenshot.

Where coaching earns its fee here is in the honest assessment of fit. A student who is fighting for a 4 in Analysis and Approaches HL in DP1 and whose target degrees accept Applications and Interpretation is losing marks across their whole diploma to defend a route they do not need. A student who switches away from Analysis and Approaches to protect a total score, then applies to engineering two years later, has paid a much larger price. One diagnostic conversation in the first term is worth more than a year of weekly hours spent propping up the wrong choice.

If a switch does happen, budget for it. Moving down from HL to SL within the same route is routine in DP1 and usually needs little catch-up. Crossing from Analysis and Approaches to Applications and Interpretation, or back, needs the school's sign-off and six to ten hours of bridging, because the statistics content in Applications and Interpretation is heavier and the proof content in Analysis and Approaches has no equivalent.

Where a 6 becomes a 7, topic by topic

  • Algebraic slips inside correct method: ten minutes daily for six weeks, minimal tutor time
  • Technology dependence on AA Paper 1: four to eight weeks of timed non-calculator sets
  • Unstated statistical conditions on AI papers: two to three sessions, recovers quickly
  • Paper 3 chain abandonment at HL: four to six full timed questions with marking
  • Exploration notation and reflection: one review session and a redraft by the student

Marks in IB Mathematics are lost in predictable places, and the pattern is consistent enough across UAE schools that a marked mock usually identifies it in twenty minutes. The recurring causes are not conceptual mysteries. They are unpractised algebra, calculator dependence, unstated method conditions, and answers that stop one line before the question was actually answered. Each has a different hour cost, and that is what a coaching plan should be priced on.

The most common single leak at Analysis and Approaches HL is algebraic manipulation inside otherwise correct method. A student sets up a correct integral and then loses a sign, or differentiates correctly and cannot rearrange the result. In a mark scheme this reads as one lost accuracy mark per question, which across a paper is the difference between a 6 and a 7. The fix is high-frequency, low-duration practice: ten minutes of manipulation daily for six weeks beats two hours on a Saturday, and it is the cheapest intervention available because it does not need an hour of tutor time to deliver.

At Applications and Interpretation the leak is usually procedural. Students run a chi-squared test without stating the hypotheses, quote a correlation coefficient without commenting on what it means for the context, or choose a regression model because the calculator offered it rather than because the data shape justified it. These are method marks, and they are recoverable quickly because the content is already known. Coaching here is about writing the answer the mark scheme is looking for, which is a skill most students have simply never been shown.

Exploration marks sit in a category of their own. They are not lost through weak mathematics in most cases but through presentation, notation and reflection: a graph with no axis labels, calculator syntax left in the body, a reflection section bolted on at the end. These are the cheapest marks on the whole course and the ones families most often leave on the table while paying for extra Paper 2 revision they do not need.

05

The exploration: twenty marks, five criteria and the honesty line

The mathematical exploration carries 20% of the grade in all four IB maths courses and is marked by the school against five published criteria, then moderated by the IB. It is the component where coaching returns the most marks per hour and the component where the academic-honesty line matters most, because the work must be the student's own and an IB malpractice finding is an expulsion risk for the student rather than an inconvenience for the provider.

What a coach may legitimately do is well defined. A coach may teach the mathematics a topic requires, demonstrated on different numbers. A coach may ask why a topic interests the student until the answer is specific enough to be defensible under Criterion C. A coach may read a draft the student has produced and respond with the criterion wording: 'Criterion B asks for defined variables; find me the line where your variables are defined.' A coach may explain what moderation looks for and what a school's internal deadline means for the sequence of work.

What a coach must never do is produce any part of the assessed text. No coach at IB Gram writes, edits to completion, supplies or ghost-authors an exploration, an Extended Essay, a TOK essay or any coursework, and we decline the request when it is made. One provider ranking for these queries sells completed Internal Assessments outright; that is an integrity breach, and buying one puts the student's whole diploma at risk rather than their maths grade. The distinction is simple to state and we state it in writing before an exploration block starts.

The table below sets out the five criteria with their mark allocations, the errors that cost UAE students marks in each, and the specific thing a coach is permitted to do about it. Read the right-hand column as a boundary rather than a service list: every action in it leaves the writing with the student.

THE MATHEMATICAL EXPLORATION - FIVE CRITERIA, TWENTY MARKS, AND THE COACHING BOUNDARY

What coaching for a 7 costs in the UAE, and who charges what

IB maths tutoring rates in AED span roughly AED 45 to AED 650 an hour in this market, and the spread is not explained by quality alone. It is explained by who is teaching, whether travel is included, and whether the hour is one-to-one. Most competitor pages ranking for these queries publish no price at all; two publish prices in US dollars, which UAE families do not transact in. The table below collects the published figures, with each attributed to the provider or rate card that published it.

Read the bands as a market, not as our price list. IB Gram is a matching platform, so what a family pays depends on the coach, the level and the session length agreed after the free trial lesson. The useful exercise with this table is not finding the lowest number. It is working out the cost per mark. Twenty-four hours at AED 200 is AED 4,800; if those hours are aimed at a diagnosed Paper 1 fluency gap and a capped Criterion E, they are buying identifiable marks. The same AED 4,800 spread over two years of general homework supervision is buying attendance.

Monthly packages seen in this market run around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. Bestimate's 2026 Dubai estimates for a weekly one-hour session land at AED 240 to 600 a month at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-market, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Context helps here: KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, so a tutoring budget set last year has not been squeezed by fees this year.

Two cost traps are worth naming. The first is paying a premium rate for work that is not premium work: marking past papers and drilling algebra are the same tasks at AED 200 and at AED 650. The second is paying by the month for sessions that are not needed in that month, which is common in the quiet middle of DP1. Buy hours against a diagnosed gap and a deadline, and ask any provider to show the arithmetic that connects the two.

Online one-to-one versus an in-home maths tutor in the UAE

Parents searching for a maths tutor in the UAE usually start by looking for someone who will come to the house, and the question deserves a straight answer rather than a redirect. In-home tutoring is real, widely available in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and priced at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel folded in. What you buy with the premium is a tutor sitting beside the student and a parent who can see the session happening. What you pay for it is a smaller pool, a commute that eats into the hour, and a specialist shortage the further you get from the two big cities.

IB Gram does not send a tutor to a UAE address. Home visits are a service we offer only in India, and every UAE lesson runs one-to-one over live video with a shared whiteboard and the student's own working held up to the camera. We are explicit about this because the alternative, implying a doorstep service and then delivering a video call, is a trust failure several providers in this market commit by routing UAE parents to an overseas phone number.

The case for online here is not that it is cheaper, although it usually is once travel is priced. It is that the selection pool stops being geographic. A family in Ras Al Khaimah or Fujairah has almost no chance of finding a resident Analysis and Approaches HL Paper 3 specialist at any price, and a family in Dubai Marina choosing from tutors willing to drive to Dubai Marina at 17:30 is choosing from a list shaped by traffic rather than by subject depth. Over video, the constraint is the coach's calendar.

Screen-sharing also changes what the hour contains. Past papers are marked live on screen, the error log is a shared document rather than a parent's memory, and recorded explanation of a worked question can be replayed before the next session. The table below compares the realistic options with market rates attached, including the one most families overlook: the school's own maths help desk, which is free and already timetabled.

How many hours a 7 takes, counted backwards from the session

UAE schools sit the May session, and the November session functions mainly as a retake route. Working backwards from the session is the only way to turn a grade target into a number of hours and therefore into a price. The variables are the starting grade, whether the exploration is already internally marked, and whether the student is at SL or HL, because HL carries Paper 3 and Paper 3 needs its own block of timed practice.

The honest ranges are wide and worth stating plainly. A student holding a 6 with a completed exploration and 20 or more weeks in hand typically needs one session a week. A student at a 5 with an unfinished exploration draft needs the exploration block first, then topic repair, and usually moves to two sessions a week in the final stretch. A student at a 4 in HL at the DP1 report is looking at a two-year rebuild, because the algebra and calculus underneath Paper 3 cannot be compressed into a term. Any provider quoting the same package to all three has not read the papers.

Deadlines that are not the exam also shape the plan. The exploration deadline is internal and set by your child's school, which is why two students in different Dubai schools can be on completely different timelines for the same session. A published parallel from another board shows how far ahead the paperwork sits. Pearson Edexcel runs an International GCSE series in November, and the November 2026 final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026, with results from the November 2025 series reaching students on 22 January 2026. Entries for that series closed well before the autumn term was over, and the result landed two months after the last paper, so the administrative calendar stretches either side of the exam window rather than tracking it. The same is true of IB internal deadlines, which is why they are worth writing down in September rather than discovering in February of the exam year. Confirm every IB date with your child's IB coordinator or on ibo.org rather than from a tutoring page, including ours.

Ramadan is the other fixed point in a UAE plan. School days shorten, family routines change, and the practical answer is to move sessions to post-Iftar timing, typically 21:00 to 22:30 Gulf Standard Time, rather than to pause for a month that sits immediately before the session. The table below converts starting points into hours and into indicative spend at AED 250 an hour, which is a mid-market specialist rate from the table above and not a quoted IB Gram price.

The regulator, the permit, and what a parent should verify

Private schooling in the UAE is regulated emirate by emirate, and knowing which authority governs your child's school is more useful than it sounds, because the inspection report is a free diagnostic. Dubai's KHDA is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Abu Dhabi's ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools. The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge does the same there, and the federal Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities also approve fees, curricula, programmes and assessment methods.

Private tutoring itself is regulated separately and federally. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule has been published, so any page quoting an amount is quoting something unverified. MoHRE's own service is listed as 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing', with no fee and a two-working-day completion time through the MoHRE smart app and e-services.

Two things follow for a parent hiring maths help. Ask an individual tutor directly whether they hold the permit, because it costs them nothing to obtain and nothing to show. And do not ask for your child's own classroom teacher: ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar private and charter school staff in Abu Dhabi from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct carries a similar restriction. A tutoring operation running premises and staff in Dubai is a different legal category again, needing a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute.

IB Gram holds no regulator or examination-board accreditation and claims none. We are an independent tutor-matching platform with no UAE office, centre or branch, and nothing on this page should be read as an endorsement by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoHRE, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson. Where this page cites a regulator, it is to explain what that body does and to link you to its own page.

Ministry of Education equivalency, and what maths has to show

A maths grade is not only a university currency. For families planning to stay in the UAE, the Ministry of Education equivalency route for a secondary certificate also has subject and grade requirements, and the British-track rules are published clearly enough to repeat. Students must show five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no lower than E or grade 3, plus either one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than grade E or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects.

That five-subject rule is worth knowing precisely, because at least one provider ranking for UAE tutoring queries publishes a six-subject requirement. On the American track, English proficiency is shown by a score of 5 in the academic IELTS, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying. Those are the figures in the published guidance.

For the IB, no points threshold can responsibly be printed here. The guidance we can source does not state one, so any page quoting an IB score for equivalency is quoting something unverified. The correct step is to read the requirement on moe.gov.ae or with the attestation authority in your emirate, in the year you need it. IB Gram does not perform, submit or influence equivalency or attestation, and tutoring is not a requirement for any part of that process.

What this does mean for maths coaching is practical. If your child's plan includes a UAE university, the maths evidence the Ministry looks at may be an IGCSE grade and an SAT Math score rather than the DP grade you have been budgeting coaching hours against. A family in that position is often better served by a short block on SAT Math technique alongside the DP work than by more hours on the same DP syllabus.

The timetable your maths hours are competing with

  • Mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies blocks sit inside the school week and cannot be dropped for revision
  • KHDA counts mandatory-subject time in 40-minute lesson units; lessons are advised to run at least 25 minutes
  • Separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs are required in Arabic first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies
  • Weekday maths sessions work best from 18:00; exploration work belongs to a weekend morning
  • During Ramadan, sessions move to roughly 21:00-22:30 Gulf Standard Time rather than pausing

A coaching plan that ignores the rest of a UAE school week fails on scheduling rather than on teaching. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA's requirements were to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year. Federally, private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, which is the rule every emirate's mandatory-subject requirement sits on.

The detail matters for timing. KHDA calculates mandatory-subject instructional time in 40-minute lesson units, allows schools to vary lesson length provided the weekly total is met, and advises that any mandatory-subject lesson runs at least 25 minutes. Schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and combined classes for the two groups are prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. Standard Arabic is the language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language.

What a parent feels is a full week. An IB student carrying six DP subjects, the exploration, the Extended Essay, TOK and a mandatory-subject block has very little unallocated weekday time before 18:00. The practical answer is to place maths sessions after the mandatory block, usually from 18:00 onwards, and to move the heavier exploration work to a weekend morning when the student is not already five hours into a school day. Two 45-minute sessions often outperform one 90-minute session for exactly this reason.

Ramadan compresses this further. School hours shorten, the family rhythm shifts, and the month frequently sits close to the May session. Pausing for four weeks at that point is expensive in a way that is easy to underestimate. Moving to post-Iftar slots around 21:00 to 22:30 Gulf Standard Time keeps the error log alive, and an online session is far easier to reschedule that way than a visit that depends on somebody driving across the city.

12

Getting started, including what happens if nobody is free

The sequence is short. Send the most recent marked maths paper and the school's assessment calendar, take a free trial lesson with no card details asked for, and read the written plan that follows it. The plan names the component to be worked on first, the number of sessions, the session length and the coach. If the plan does not connect a diagnosed gap to a number of hours, it is not a plan and you should ask for one before paying for anything.

Coverage is the part most providers leave out. Analysis and Approaches HL Paper 3 and the exploration at HL are the two narrowest specialisms in IB maths, and there are weeks in the UAE academic year, particularly the six before the May session, when no UAE-based coach with that specialism has a free evening slot. We say so rather than filling the slot with a generalist. The alternative we offer is a coach from our India-based IB team working to Gulf Standard Time, which is a 90-minute offset at most and often none.

Payment is per agreed block rather than open-ended, and a block can stop. A plan that is working should show up in marked work within three or four sessions: fewer accuracy marks lost on the same question type, a Criterion B issue closed, a Paper 3 question completed in time. If that is not visible, the right response is to change the coach or stop, not to add hours. Lead details are collected only to arrange matching and sessions, and you can ask for them to be deleted at any time.

One last honest note on expectations. A 7 in IB Mathematics is earned by a student who does the practice between sessions, and the strongest predictor we see is not the number of hours bought but whether the ten-minute daily manipulation work actually happens. Coaching makes that work targeted and checkable. It does not replace it, and no provider who tells you otherwise is describing something real.

Where we tutor

Coaching for a 7 across the seven emirates

Where a family lives in the UAE changes the local tutor pool, the commute, and the regulator whose inspection report describes the school's maths teaching. It does not change what a 7 requires. Online delivery is what makes an Analysis and Approaches HL specialist reachable from any of the seven.

Dubai

227 private schools across 17 curricula, with IB programmes covering about 7 per cent of the emirate's private-school pupils. KHDA inspection reports break attainment down by subject and phase, so the maths line in your school's latest report is the cheapest diagnostic available. IB maths coaching in Dubai has the deepest tutor pool and the worst evening traffic.

Abu Dhabi

ADEK supervises licensing and accreditation for private schools here, and its professional-ethics rules prevent school staff from taking paid private tutoring work with students enrolled at their own school. IB maths coaching in Abu Dhabi therefore cannot mean your child's own teacher, which is one reason online matching outperforms the local word-of-mouth route.

Sharjah

The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education and approves fees, curricula, programmes and assessment methods, so a Sharjah school's maths option list can differ from a Dubai school's. The specialist IB maths pool living in the emirate is small, and a 19:00 session over video avoids the Dubai-Sharjah evening crawl entirely.

Al Ain

Also under ADEK, with a smaller international-school cluster and a thinner supply of DP maths specialists than the coast. Families here most often ask for Applications and Interpretation SL support and exploration coaching, both of which work identically over video. Session timing is easier than in Dubai because there is no commute to absorb.

Ras Al Khaimah

The Department of Knowledge regulates private education in the emirate and approves fees and curricula. There are few resident IB Mathematics HL specialists, so in-home tutoring at a sensible rate is largely unavailable regardless of budget. This is the clearest case in the country for one-to-one online coaching rather than a local compromise.

Fujairah

Private schools here are supervised federally by the Ministry of Education. The practical constraint is supply: a family wanting Analysis and Approaches HL Paper 3 coaching will not find it locally. Over video, the same Paper 3 specialist who works with a Dubai Marina family is available at the same rate band.

Ajman

Also under federal Ministry of Education supervision, with a short local list of IB schools and a correspondingly short list of DP maths tutors. Ajman families commonly ask whether a Dubai-based tutor will travel; the honest answer is that the travel time is charged for in the rate, and online removes it.

Umm Al Quwain

The smallest private-school market in the country, supervised by the federal Ministry of Education. Returned zero IB maths tutor listings in our own searches of the local market. Families here are matched with the same coaches as Dubai families and sessions run on Gulf Standard Time, so nothing about the plan changes.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Send the last marked paper

Email or upload the most recent marked mock or class assessment, plus the school's assessment calendar and the exploration deadline. One marked paper tells a coach more than a half-hour conversation about how a student is finding the course, because the lost marks are visible on the page.

  2. 02

    Take the free trial lesson

A 45 to 60-minute diagnostic over live video, with no card details asked for. The coach works through the paper with the student, separates method errors from accuracy slips, and checks whether the technology dependence pattern is present on Analysis and Approaches Paper 1.

  3. 03

Read the written plan and its arithmetic

A short document naming the first component to be worked on, the sessions needed, the session length and the coach's rate. The hours and the gap are connected explicitly, so you can see what you are buying and compare it to the market bands published on this page.

  4. 04

    Run weekly one-to-one sessions

Same slot each week on Gulf Standard Time, over live video with a shared whiteboard. Written notes follow each session covering what was taught, what was set and what the error log now shows, so progress is visible without a parent sitting in the lesson.

  5. 05

Re-diagnose at each mock, then stop

Each school mock resets the plan: the error log is compared against the new paper and hours are moved to whatever is still costing marks. When the diagnosed gaps are closed, the block ends. Open-ended weekly tutoring across two years is how families overspend without noticing.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Hours priced against marks, not postcodes

A plan names the component, the gap and the number of sessions before a price is agreed. That makes cost per mark something you can actually compare between providers, which is the one comparison the published pages in this market avoid making possible.

Market rates published and attributed

Every AED figure on this page carries the provider or rate card that published it and the year. Three of the six strongest competitor pages in this market publish no price at all, and two quote US dollars, which is not the currency a UAE family pays in.

The honesty line written down

Exploration, Extended Essay and TOK support is teaching, questioning and feedback on the student's own draft. No coach here produces assessed text, and we decline the request when it is made. One provider ranking for these queries sells completed Internal Assessments; that risks the student's whole diploma.

Subject depth instead of proximity

Because UAE lessons run over live video, an Applications and Interpretation HL statistics specialist or an Analysis and Approaches Paper 3 coach is reachable from Umm Al Quwain as easily as from Jumeirah. The selection pool is a calendar rather than a driving radius.

Coverage limits disclosed before you pay

In the weeks before the May session the narrowest HL specialisms genuinely run out of evening slots. We say so and offer a Gulf Standard Time alternative from our India-based IB team rather than quietly substituting a generalist at specialist rates.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in the UAE: your questions answered

How hard is it to get a 7 in IB Maths AA HL?+

Hard, and specifically hard in ways that are identifiable. Analysis and Approaches HL asks for proof, algebraic fluency and chained calculus, with Paper 1 sat without technology and Paper 3 worth 20% of the grade. Most students who miss a 7 are not short of understanding; they lose accuracy marks inside correct method, or abandon a Paper 3 build-up partway through. Both are trainable. The students who get there practise manipulation in short daily blocks rather than long weekend sessions, and they treat the exploration as 20 marks to be earned rather than a task to be submitted.

What does IB 7 in maths coaching cost per hour in the UAE?+

The UAE market runs from roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour for a budget online tutor, AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor online, AED 180 to 500 for an in-home visit with travel folded in, and AED 200 to 450 or more for an IB specialist. Those come from published rate cards: EdFlik, Tutopiya, Unitors, TutorChase and Bestimate's 2026 Dubai table. IB Gram is a matching platform, so the rate depends on the coach and level agreed after the free trial lesson. The number worth comparing is the rate multiplied by the hours a diagnosed gap actually needs.

How many coaching hours does a move from a 5 to a 7 in maths usually take?+

With 24 to 30 weeks in hand, one session a week rising to two in the final stretch is the common shape, which lands somewhere between 30 and 48 hours. At a mid-market AED 250 an hour that is roughly AED 7,500 to AED 12,000 across the run. The spread is driven by the exploration: a student whose draft is unfinished spends the first block on criteria work, which is cheaper per mark than anything else on the course. A student who also needs algebraic rebuilding at HL should expect a longer plan, and any provider quoting one package for every starting point has not read the papers.

Is Maths AA HL or AI HL the better route to a 7?+

Neither is easier; they reward different things. Analysis and Approaches rewards proof, algebra and calculus, with a technology-free Paper 1. Applications and Interpretation rewards modelling, statistics and written interpretation, with a calculator allowed throughout. Choose on university fit first, because engineering, physics, mathematics and quantitative economics degrees commonly list Analysis and Approaches while business, design, psychology and social sciences commonly accept either. Check each programme's own entry page in your application year and keep a screenshot, because requirements change between cycles and no tutoring page, this one included, is a reliable source for an admissions rule.

Can a coach help with the mathematical exploration without breaking IB honesty rules?+

Yes, and the boundary is clear. A coach may teach the mathematics a topic needs on a parallel example, question a topic choice until the student can defend it, explain what each criterion rewards, and give feedback on a draft the student has produced, quoted against the criterion wording. A coach may not produce any part of the assessed text, edit it to completion or supply one. Everything submitted stays the student's own work. This matters because an IB malpractice finding is an expulsion risk for the student, and at least one provider in this market sells completed Internal Assessments outright.

How many marks is the IB mathematical exploration worth and how is it marked?+

Twenty marks, carrying 20% of the final grade in all four IB maths courses. It is marked by the school against five criteria and then moderated by the IB. Criterion A covers presentation, worth 4 marks. Criterion B covers mathematical communication, also 4. Criterion C covers personal engagement, worth 3. Criterion D covers reflection, worth 3. Criterion E covers use of mathematics, worth 6, and is the one capped by a topic whose mathematics sits below course level. Most lost marks across the UAE students we see are in A, B and D rather than in the mathematics itself.

My child's Paper 1 is far weaker than Paper 2. What does that tell you?+

In Analysis and Approaches it usually means technology dependence. Paper 1 is sat without a calculator at both levels, so a student who has learned the calculator route to every answer has no fallback when the device is taken away. The pattern shows up as correct setups with arithmetic or manipulation failures, and it takes four to eight weeks of timed non-calculator sets to close rather than a few sessions. In Applications and Interpretation the same gap reads differently, because a calculator is permitted throughout, so a weak Paper 1 there points at method choice instead.

We have eleven weeks until the May session. Is a 7 in maths still realistic?+

It depends almost entirely on where the student is now and whether the exploration is already marked. From a solid 6 with the exploration behind them, eleven weeks of two sessions a week spent on timed papers and error triage is a realistic plan, costing roughly AED 5,500 to 7,000 at a mid-market rate. From a 4 at HL it is not, and a coach who says otherwise is selling hours. The useful question at this range is which component returns marks fastest, and the answer is usually timed full papers with real marking rather than more content teaching.

Does my child need a maths coach sitting in the room for this to work?+

No, and in the UAE the trade-off usually runs the other way. Lessons here are delivered one-to-one over live video with a shared whiteboard and the student's own working held to the camera. Past papers are marked live on screen, and the error log is a shared document rather than something a parent has to remember. What you give up is physical presence. What you gain is that the coach is selected for Paper 3 or exploration depth rather than for willingness to drive across Dubai at 17:30, and a 19:00 session starts at 19:00.

Do private maths tutors in the UAE need a MoHRE permit?+

Yes. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE lists the service as 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing', with no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Individuals tutoring without it are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule has been published, so treat any page quoting an amount with caution. Ask a tutor directly; it costs them nothing to show.

Can maths sessions move to post-Iftar timing during Ramadan?+

Yes, and for most families that is better than pausing. School hours shorten during Ramadan and the month often falls close to the May session, so four weeks off is expensive at exactly the wrong time. Sessions typically move to roughly 21:00 to 22:30 Gulf Standard Time, which keeps the error log current and the timed-paper rhythm intact. Rescheduling an online session around a changed family routine is straightforward in a way that a visit depending on someone driving across the city is not. Tell the coach the preferred window before the month starts so the slot is held.

Will five IGCSE passes including maths satisfy UAE Ministry of Education equivalency?+

On the British track, the published requirement is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no lower than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count, plus one accredited Advanced Level subject at no less than E or two Advanced Subsidiary Level subjects at the same grade. At least one competing site states six subjects, which does not match the published guidance. Verify the current rule on moe.gov.ae or with your emirate's attestation authority in the year you apply. IB Gram does not perform or influence equivalency, and tutoring is not required for it.

Is small-group maths coaching cheaper than one-to-one for a 7?+

Cheaper per hour, yes: tuition centres in Dubai and Sharjah typically charge a third to a half of the one-to-one rate per student for groups of two to four. Cheaper per mark, usually not. A 7 turns on one student's specific lost marks, and a group runs at the group's pace on the group's weaknesses. Groups work well for a syllabus pass, for keeping pace during DP1, or for shared timed-paper practice where everyone is marked individually afterwards. For the final push on a diagnosed gap, one-to-one hours bought against that gap return more for the money.

What happens if no UAE-based specialist is free for AA HL Paper 3?+

We tell you. Analysis and Approaches HL Paper 3 is one of the narrowest specialisms in IB maths, and in the six weeks before the May session the UAE-based coaches who cover it genuinely run out of evening slots. Rather than filling the slot with a generalist at specialist rates, we offer a coach from our India-based IB team working to Gulf Standard Time, which is a 90-minute offset at most and frequently none. If neither is available for the window you need, we say that too, and point you at the school's own maths department in the meantime.

Which Dubai and Abu Dhabi schools do your IB maths students come from?+

Students we support attend established IB World Schools across both cities, including Dubai International Academy - Emirates Hills, GEMS World Academy - Dubai, Uptown International School, Deira International School, Raha International School and the American Community School of Abu Dhabi. Those schools are named as context for the UAE IB system, not as partners or clients: IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform with no affiliation to any school or school group. What matters more for a coaching plan than the school's name is its internal exploration deadline, which varies by several weeks between them.

Do maths coaching rates rise closer to the exam session?+

Published hourly rates in this market do not generally change by season, but availability does, and that has the same effect on what a family pays. In the weeks before the May session the specialists with Paper 3 and exploration experience fill first, so late bookers choose from a narrower pool and more often end up in the higher band. Booking the final-stretch block in advance holds both the slot and the rate. The other seasonal cost is less visible: a plan started eight weeks out can only buy timed-paper technique, while the same budget spent twenty weeks out can buy the content repair underneath it.

Start with one marked paper and a free trial lesson

If a 7 in IB Mathematics is the target, the first useful step costs nothing: send the most recent marked paper and the school's assessment calendar, and take a free trial lesson over live video with no card details asked for. You will get back a named component to work on first, the number of sessions it needs, and a rate you can compare against the AED bands published on this page. Sessions run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, anywhere in the seven emirates. If the remaining weeks are too few for the gap in front of us, we will tell you that instead of selling you hours.
