IB Home Tutor in International City

Searching for an IB home tutor in International City is usually a budget question as much as an academic one. Families in the clusters around Dragon Mart are weighing a monthly figure against a school report, and nobody in this market publishes the figures. This page does: what a month of tutoring costs at each tier, what each budget actually buys, and the four places the money goes to waste. Lessons are one-to-one, online.

IB & IGCSE in International City

The monthly number, before anything else

Most tutoring pages in this market describe quality and avoid money. Three of the six leading pages publish no price at all, and two quote United States dollars, which is not a currency anyone in International City transacts in. So this page starts with the figure a family actually budgets against, which is monthly rather than hourly, and it names the source of every number.

Bestimate's 2026 estimates for a weekly one-hour session put budget tutoring at AED 240 to 600 a month, mid-range at AED 600 to 1,200, and specialist examination-year support at AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more. Published packages in this market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. Those are the brackets. Everything else on this page is about what sits inside them.

Working back to an hourly rate, the market divides cleanly. Budget and university-student online tutors advertise from roughly AED 45 to 150, with EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. Qualified subject tutors online sit at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200 and IGCSE from AED 150. IB specialists run AED 200 to 450 or more, with TutorChase at AED 270. Premium named tutors reach AED 500 to 650, with BartyED at AED 650. In-home one-to-one with travel included runs AED 180 to 500.

International City matters to this arithmetic in a specific way. There is no international school inside the district - children travel out to Al Warqa, Al Qusais, Mirdif, Silicon Oasis or Academic City - and an in-home tutor would therefore be crossing the city at the same time of day the family already does. That travel is paid for twice: once in the hourly premium of roughly AED 50 to 150, and once in the dead time around the session that no invoice shows.

IB Gram does not send tutors to homes in the UAE. Home visits are a service we run only in India, and we say so here because the phrase in this page's title is what parents search rather than a promise to drive to Al Warsan. What we do instead is one-to-one tuition over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, with the tutor chosen for the subject and the level. For a family in International City that removes the travel line from the bill entirely.

The rest of this page is about value rather than price. What a month at each budget genuinely buys. The four places tutoring money is most often wasted, which between them account for most of the complaints families have about tutoring in this emirate. And tutoring set against the other education costs a household here carries, including the fee position KHDA confirmed in May 2026.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

What a programme costs to support differs more than families expect, because the work is different at each stage rather than merely harder.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

No external examinations and no marks on the report, which makes it the stage where tutoring is most often bought on anxiety rather than on evidence. The two things worth paying for are number fluency to automatic recall and structured writing. Both are cheap now and expensive later, and neither needs a specialist rate.

For an International City family the sensible PYP purchase is short and specific: a term of weekly sessions on one skill at the lower end of the market, not an open arrangement. At AED 45 to 150 an hour this is genuinely affordable, and it is the one stage where the budget band contains perfectly adequate help.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Graded 1 to 8 against four criteria per subject, each marked out of eight. Tutoring is most efficient when it targets the single weak criterion rather than the subject, and the criterion breakdown from the school is what makes that possible. Mid-band rates are appropriate here; specialist rates usually are not.

The MYP is where a modest monthly budget goes furthest, because a term aimed at one named criterion often moves a grade. Families in International City who ask the school for the four criterion marks before buying anything routinely spend less and get more, because they stop paying for general support across three subjects.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Three Higher Level and three Standard Level subjects plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service, scored out of 45. Each subject carries an internally marked, externally moderated assessment. This is where specialist rates become genuinely necessary, particularly at Higher Level, and where the budget band stops containing usable help.

The honest arithmetic for a Diploma family here: one Higher Level subject at one session a week, at mid to specialist rates, is roughly AED 600 to 2,000 a month depending on the tutor. Two subjects doubles it. Which is why the diagnostic matters, because most students need one subject supported properly rather than three supported thinly.

COREAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

The Diploma core: TOK, Extended Essay and CAS

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay together carry up to three Diploma points. Support for both is naturally finite - four to eight sessions timed to the school's deadlines - which makes it one of the few tutoring purchases with a defined end and a predictable total cost.

Core support is the best-value block most Diploma families in this cluster buy, because three points matter at the margin of a university offer and the work is bounded. The thing to refuse is anybody offering to write it. One operator in these search results sells completed assessments outright, and the consequence of that falls on the candidate.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Where the money goes differs by subject, because some problems take six sessions and others take two years. These are the requests we see from this district.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Algebra, functions, calculus and proof. Most lost marks are method rather than understanding - working omitted, rounding applied early - which means a well-targeted six to eight sessions often moves a grade. One of the better returns in the subject list.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling, statistics and technology use. The failure is interpretive: a correct regression line with nothing said about what the gradient means. Teachable as a writing habit, which again makes it responsive to a short block rather than a long arrangement.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Organic mechanisms, energetics, equilibrium and acid-base work. Mole calculations underpin all of it, and a student weak there loses marks across the whole paper. Six to eight sessions of stoichiometry drilling is the highest-value chemistry purchase available.

Physics

HL and SL

Uncertainty handling and graph linearisation account for a large share of recoverable marks and are rarely taught as lessons. Content gaps at Higher Level take months rather than weeks, which is the distinction a diagnosis should establish before you commit a budget.

Biology

HL and SL

Volume rather than difficulty, with command terms deciding the grade. 'Outline' and 'explain' carry different allocations and students answer both as 'describe'. A fortnight of deliberate practice here is worth more than a term of re-reading notes.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagrams must be titled, labelled and referenced in the prose to score; HL adds a calculation-heavy paper. The internal assessment is three 800-word commentaries, and the marks sit in evaluation rather than theory, which is coachable in a short block.

Business Management

HL and SL

Applied toolkit work on stimulus material, with higher bands requiring a justified judgement rather than a balanced list. HL candidates sit an additional paper on pre-released stimulus material issued ahead of the session.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Unseen non-literary analysis, a comparative essay, the Individual Oral and, at HL, an essay of 1,200 to 1,500 words. The Individual Oral is where a few sessions change an outcome, usually by narrowing a global issue that was pitched far too broadly.

Mathematics bridging from MYP 5

MYP 5 into DP1

Indices, surds, algebraic fractions, function notation and basic differentiation, all assumed automatic from the first Diploma week. Six to eight summer sessions at mid-band rates, and the cheapest genuinely useful purchase in the whole programme.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

The DP1 exhibition and the 1,600-word DP2 essay. Bounded work with a defined end, which makes the total cost predictable. Support is questioning on the student's own objects and drafts, never supplied argument.

Extended Essay

Core, 4,000 words

Most failures are early and structural: a research question too broad for the word count, or no stated method. Four to six sessions at the question-setting stage prevents far more expensive remedial work later in the second Diploma year.

Internal assessment coaching across the sciences

HL and SL

Research design, variable control, uncertainty propagation and the evaluation section, all on the student's own data. Worth roughly a fifth of each science grade, and a finite block rather than an open commitment.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy tutoring at different budgets, and an honest account of the in-home option and what its premium pays for.

One subject, one session a week

The arrangement that suits most budgets and most problems. One 60-minute session weekly in the subject the diagnosis identifies, following the school's scheme of work. At mid-band market rates this is roughly AED 600 to 1,200 a month on Bestimate's estimates, and it is enough to move a grade when the problem is method rather than missing content.

  • Same tutor weekly so nothing is re-diagnosed
  • Driven by the student's own marked work
  • Predictable monthly cost with no travel line
  • Gulf Standard Time slots, including weekend mornings

Finite coaching blocks with a defined total

Four to eight sessions for an internal assessment, the Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge, timed to the school's deadlines. The appeal is budgetary as much as academic: the number of sessions is known at the start, so the total is known at the start. For families watching a monthly figure this is the most controllable purchase available.

  • Session count agreed before the block begins
  • Framed on the published assessment criteria
  • The student writes; the tutor questions and gives feedback
  • Ends when the school's deadline passes

Short intensive before the May session

Two sessions a week in the final weeks, entirely on timed papers and the question types costing most marks. Higher weekly cost for a short period rather than a long commitment, which suits households that would rather spend in a concentrated burst. Availability is tightest here, so the slot should be booked early even if the sessions start late.

  • Diagnostic first week, then targeted error-type work
  • No new content in the final fortnight by design
  • Written statement of what the weeks can realistically achieve
  • Booked in the first term, delivered in the last

In-home tutoring, and what the premium buys

Dubai's in-home one-to-one rates run roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel, per Bestimate at 180 to 350 and advertised home-tutor rates at 200 to 500, with monthly packages of AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour sessions. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; that service exists only in India. The premium buys presence in the room, and from International City it buys a long drive.

  • No IB Gram tutor travels to an address in Dubai or anywhere in the UAE
  • Roughly AED 50-150 an hour of the in-home rate is travel
  • From this district the tutor crosses the city at the busiest hour
  • The same money at online rates buys more sessions or a better-matched tutor

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in International City

01

What each monthly budget actually buys

Hourly rates are how tutoring is sold and monthly totals are how it is paid for, so the useful table is the second one. The brackets below come from Bestimate's 2026 monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions and from packages providers in this market publish, all read in October 2026. None of them is an IB Gram rate; ours is quoted after the free trial against the work the diagnosis identifies.

The thing worth noticing is not the price but the ceiling on each band. At the lowest band you are generally buying a university student or a general secondary tutor, which is entirely adequate for Primary Years number work and for Middle Years content support, and is rarely adequate for a Diploma Higher Level subject. Paying specialist rates for a generalist is the most common expensive mistake in this market; paying budget rates for Higher Level physics is the second.

The second thing worth noticing is that the step from one session a week to two does not double the benefit, although it does double the bill. A second session is worth buying in two situations: a genuinely missing topic that needs rebuilding over months, or the final weeks before a session when timed practice is the whole activity. Outside those, a single well-targeted session plus homework the student actually does outperforms two sessions of passive attendance.

The third is that the cheapest effective purchase in the entire programme is often the smallest: six to eight bridging sessions between the Middle Years Programme and the Diploma, bought in a summer when nothing is urgent. Families in this district who buy that spend less across the two Diploma years than families who react to a first-term report.

The four places tutoring money gets wasted

Across enquiries from this part of Dubai, the same four patterns account for most of the money families regret spending. None of them is fraud. All of them are avoidable with one question asked before the first session, and together they probably waste more than the entire difference between the budget and specialist bands.

The first is buying three subjects when the problem is one. A student with a disappointing science report usually has one of the three sciences carrying the problem, and one timed paper in each identifies which. The second is paying a specialist rate for a generalist, which happens most often in the fortnight after mock results, when demand peaks and the specialists are fully committed.

The third is a rota of tutors rather than one. Each new tutor restarts the diagnosis, which means a family pays two or three sessions of exploratory work several times over. The fourth is sessions with no homework between them: a weekly hour in which the tutor explains and the student watches is roughly a third as useful as one followed by work the student does alone, and it costs exactly the same.

The table below sets each pattern against what it costs and what to do instead. The common thread is that all four are diagnosis failures rather than teaching failures, which is why we run a free trial lesson and send a written note afterwards rather than quoting a package first.

Tutoring set against the other education costs here

Tutoring is rarely the only education line in a household budget, and it helps to see it beside the others. The most useful anchor is the fee position: KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. For a family planning tutoring, that is one cost that is not moving.

Dubai's private school sector is also expanding, which matters for families in this district who travel for school. The 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools - four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate - creating 16,846 new places, after six new schools opened during 2025-26 with enrolment up 6%. More places nearer home would change the travel arithmetic on this page considerably.

Against that, the tutoring numbers look small per month and substantial over two years. One Diploma subject at one session a week for the two Diploma years, at the mid band, is a four-figure annual commitment; at the specialist band it is more. That is the figure worth comparing against a school move, a different subject choice, or simply doing nothing and letting the school's own support run its course.

The honest point is that tutoring is not always the right purchase. A student who is not doing the work set by the school will not be rescued by more teaching, and a student whose difficulty is organisational rather than academic needs a different intervention. The diagnostic session exists partly to establish which of those situations you are in, and we would rather say so than take the booking.

04

What the travel premium costs a family in this district specifically

  • Travel premium in this market: roughly AED 50-150 an hour on top of the online rate
  • In-home monthly packages published at AED 1,599-1,799 for eight contact hours
  • International City sits off the main school corridors, lengthening any tutor's journey
  • Household time either side of an in-home session is a real and unbilled cost
  • The same money online buys more sessions, or a better-matched tutor, or a specialist who does not live nearby

In-home rates in Dubai carry a travel premium of roughly AED 50 to 150 an hour. That is not a markup for its own sake - a tutor crossing the city at five in the afternoon spends well over an hour unpaid to deliver sixty paid minutes, and the rate has to reflect it. The question is what that money buys for a household in the clusters around Dragon Mart.

It buys presence in the room, which some students genuinely need and most do not. It does not buy subject depth. And from International City it buys a longer journey than from almost anywhere else in this part of Dubai, because the district sits off the main school corridors: the schools its children attend are in Al Warqa, Al Qusais, Mirdif, Silicon Oasis and Academic City, and a tutor coming to the home is travelling against the same traffic the family already fights twice a day.

There is a second, quieter cost. An in-home session consumes household time either side of the lesson - the arrival, the settling, the leaving - and in a flat with other children that is real. An online session starts when the laptop opens. Over a Diploma year at two sessions a week, the difference in household time is measured in days rather than hours.

The budgetary consequence is simple. The same monthly figure buys more sessions online, or the same number of sessions with a better-matched tutor, or a specialist in a subject where no local specialist exists. For a family in this district that last option is the one that actually changes an outcome, because the pool of Diploma Higher Level tutors living within reach of Al Warsan is close to empty.

05

Where the money is genuinely well spent

Having been sceptical about four kinds of spending, it is worth naming the purchases that reliably repay themselves. The first is the bridging block between the Middle Years Programme and the Diploma: six to eight sessions in a summer on indices, surds, algebraic fractions, function notation and timed essay structure. Nothing is urgent, rates are at their most negotiable, and the effect runs across two years of Diploma teaching.

The second is method work in mathematics and the sciences. Working shown, rounding controlled, command terms answered as asked, units checked, long questions attempted rather than abandoned. Most lost marks at both Middle Years and Diploma level are habits rather than gaps, and habits change in weeks. A six-session block aimed at a student's three recurring errors is the best value in the entire market.

The third is core support in the Diploma: Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay together carry up to three points, the work is bounded, and three points matter at the margin of a university offer. The fourth is a single diagnostic engagement in a subject where you genuinely cannot tell whether there is a problem - one timed paper, marked properly, with a written note.

What those four have in common is a defined end. Open-ended weekly arrangements across several subjects are where tutoring budgets disappear without anybody being able to say what changed. Bounded purchases with a stated aim are where the money does something, and they are easier to evaluate afterwards, which is the point.

06

What a parent should ask before paying anything

  • Does the person teaching my child hold a current MoHRE private tuition work permit?
  • Is the figure per hour or per session, and does it include VAT?
  • Which subject and level have you taught, and for how many cohorts?
  • What is the replacement policy, and who decides a match has failed?
  • What will you do with an internal assessment, and what will you refuse to do?

Five questions eliminate most of the bad outcomes in this market, and any provider worth hiring answers all five without hesitation. They are deliberately about money and accountability rather than about teaching philosophy, because the teaching is not usually where things go wrong.

First: does the individual teaching my child hold a current MoHRE private tuition work permit, and may I see it? Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated - the permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is granted free of charge for two years, and those tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so disregard any amount quoted at you.

Second: is the quoted figure per hour or per session, and does it include VAT? Third: which subject and level have you taught, and for how many cohorts? Fourth: what is the replacement policy if the match fails, and who decides it has failed? Fifth: exactly what will you do with an internal assessment, and what will you refuse to do?

On that last point we are explicit because the search results this page sits in include an operator selling completed assessments at a published price. A tutor teaches, questions and gives feedback on the student's own work. Anything else is malpractice, and the finding falls on the candidate. We also state what we are not: no UAE office or centre, no KHDA Educational Services Permit, no approval or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, no guaranteed grades and no star ratings we cannot evidence.

07

Coverage, and the limit we publish rather than hide

No competitor page in this market discloses what it cannot staff, and several conceal non-local delivery behind a phone number. We publish the limit instead, because the alternative is a family paying specialist rates for a generalist and finding out in week three - which is one of the four wasted-money patterns above.

The pattern is consistent. Mathematics in both courses, the sciences at Standard Level, Economics, Business Management and English are generally available within days. Physics and Chemistry at Higher Level take longer, particularly in the fortnight either side of mock examinations when demand across the emirate concentrates. Less commonly taught Group 2 languages take two weeks or more. Further Mathematics, Music and Film we often cannot staff at all.

When we cannot cover something properly there are three honest responses and we use all three: give a realistic wait, offer adjacent-subject support with the boundary stated plainly, or decline. The one thing we will not do is put a Standard Level tutor in front of a Higher Level candidate and let a pleasant trial lesson carry the arrangement, because that is exactly how a budget gets wasted.

On delivery, to be unambiguous: every IB Gram lesson for a family in International City is one-to-one and online, on Gulf Standard Time. No tutor travels to an address in this district or anywhere else in the UAE. Home visits are a service we offer in India only, and the reason this page targets the phrase is that it is what parents type, not that it describes what we do.

08

The Diploma calendar, and why timing is a cost question

Timing affects price indirectly but substantially, because availability is what actually varies through the year. UAE schools sit the May examination session, and demand for Diploma tutoring in Dubai peaks twice: once after mock results and once in the final weeks. In those windows the specialists are committed, and a family booking then pays the same rate for a less suitable tutor.

The crowded point in the Diploma is the January and February window of the second year, when internal assessments across four or five subjects, the Extended Essay final submission, the Theory of Knowledge essay and the school's mock examinations all land within a few weeks. Booking core support during the first year rather than reacting in that window is both cheaper in total and more likely to get the right person.

We publish no specific IB session or results dates on this site. The IB's own site blocks automated checking, and a wrong date on a page a family plans around is worse than no date, so confirm every IB date with your child's Diploma coordinator or on ibo.org. For Cambridge and Pearson qualifications the dates are sourced: Cambridge runs June and November series for UAE candidates, with the February and March series offered to India only, and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and in November.

Ramadan is the other scheduling fact with a budget consequence in this district. School days shorten, late-afternoon concentration is poor, and a session booked at four during the month is often money spent on an hour nobody benefits from. Weekend mornings and post-Iftar slots work. Because no tutor is travelling, moving the pattern costs nothing but needs deciding before the month starts.

Where we tutor

International City, its clusters, and where its children go to school

International City is a set of named clusters rather than a single neighbourhood, and the practical detail that shapes tutoring here is that no international school sits inside any of them.

China Cluster and Dragon Mart

The commercial heart of the district, with the heaviest traffic at the times a school run happens. Families here time sessions after six on weekdays because the return journey is unpredictable rather than long.

England Cluster and France Cluster

Dense residential blocks with a large share of working households, which is why weekend-morning sessions are more popular here than weekday evenings. Both clusters feed the Al Warqa and Al Qusais schools most often.

Greece, Italy and Spain Clusters

The southern residential blocks, closest to the Ras Al Khor road out towards Nad Al Hamar. Shortest run in the district to the Garhoud schools, and the easiest clusters from which to reach Mirdif.

Persia, Russia and Morocco Clusters

Residential, with school buses as the dominant transport rather than family cars. Bus timings rather than traffic set the earliest realistic session, which in practice means after six on weekdays.

Warsan Village and Al Warsan

The lower-density edge of the district, closer to the Dubai-Hatta road. Families here often choose the Silicon Oasis and Academic City schools because the route avoids the worst of the interchange traffic.

Al Warqa

The nearest district with substantial school provision, including Universal American School on IB programmes and GEMS Our Own English High School on the Indian curriculum. Twenty minutes or so on a normal morning.

Al Qusais and Al Nahda

A dense older cluster of schools including The Millennium School Dubai and Apple International School, reached via Al Rashidiya. A common choice for International City families on the Indian curriculum.

Mirdif and Nad Al Hamar

Further out but with the IB continuum at Uptown International School. Families who commit to this run are usually choosing IB continuity deliberately and absorbing a longer morning for it.

Silicon Oasis and Academic City

Reached on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, with GEMS Wellington Academy running the Diploma and Dubai English Speaking College on the British route. The usual destination for International City's Diploma students.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Say the subject, the level and the budget

Including the budget, which most families leave out and which changes what we recommend. A monthly figure lets us say honestly whether one session a week in one subject is the right shape, or whether a finite coaching block would do more for less.

    One timed paper, marked properly

This is the step that prevents the most expensive mistake in this market, which is buying three subjects when one is the problem. Marked question by question against the published mark scheme, it produces three or four recurring reasons rather than an impression.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson, then a written note

A real lesson on real content with the student working. Afterwards a plain summary: what the tutor found, which subject actually needs the money, and what eight weeks would target. Say no and nothing further is owed, and the figure is only quoted after this.

  4. 04

    Agreed homework between sessions

A session with no work after it delivers roughly a third of the available benefit at the full price. Work is agreed at the end of each session and checked at the start of the next, which is the cheapest way to improve the return on everything else.

  5. 05

Review, and change the tutor rather than the plan

Short written reviews every few weeks against the school's own marking. If the match has failed we reassign rather than defend it, and we do not rotate tutors as a matter of course, because each new tutor re-bills the diagnosis.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

We publish the numbers in dirhams

Three of the six leading pages in this market publish no price at all and two quote dollars. Every figure here is in AED, attributed to the provider who published it, and dated October 2026 - and none of them is presented as our own rate.

No travel line on the bill

In-home rates carry roughly AED 50 to 150 an hour of travel. From International City, off the main school corridors, that premium buys the longest journey in this part of Dubai. Online, the same money buys more sessions or a better-matched tutor.

The diagnosis comes before the quote

One timed paper per subject, marked properly, usually shows that one subject is carrying the problem. Families who do this before buying routinely spend a third of what they expected to, which is a strange thing for a tutoring company to advertise.

Bounded purchases with a stated end

Internal assessment and Extended Essay blocks have an agreed session count, so the total is known before it starts. Open-ended weekly arrangements across three subjects are where tutoring budgets vanish without anybody able to say what changed.

Coverage limits published, not hidden

Higher Level physics and chemistry around the mock window are the hardest things we staff. You hear that at the enquiry stage with a realistic wait, because the alternative is specialist rates for a generalist, which is the commonest waste in this market.

A clear line on coursework

The student writes; we question and give feedback on their own drafts. No supplied text, no chosen topics, no generated data. An operator in these search results sells completed assessments, and the malpractice finding from that falls on the candidate.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in International City: your questions answered

Can I get an IB home tutor in International City?+

You can get one-to-one IB tutoring for a child living in International City, and with IB Gram it is delivered live online rather than by a tutor coming to your flat. Home visits are a service we offer in India only. The Dubai market does include tutors who travel, at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel, with published monthly packages of AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour sessions. From this district that premium buys a long journey rather than a better tutor.

What does IB tutoring actually cost per month for a family here?+

Bestimate's 2026 estimates for a weekly one-hour session put budget tutoring at AED 240 to 600 a month, mid-range at AED 600 to 1,200, and specialist examination-year support at AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more. Published packages in this market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions. Those are market figures from the sources named, read in October 2026, not IB Gram prices - ours is quoted after the free trial lesson against the work the diagnosis identifies.

Is the cheapest tutoring band ever worth using?+

Yes, for the right work. Budget and university-student online tutors advertise from roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik from 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from 33 to 52, and that band contains perfectly adequate help for Primary Years number and writing work and for Middle Years content support. Where it falls short is Diploma Higher Level teaching and internal assessment coaching. Paying budget rates for Higher Level physics is as wasteful as paying specialist rates for a generalist.

Is a second weekly session worth double the monthly cost?+

One, in most situations. A second session doubles the bill and does not double the benefit, because the limiting factor is usually the work the student does between sessions rather than the teaching time. Two sessions a week earn their cost in two cases: a genuinely missing topic that needs rebuilding over months, and the final weeks before an examination session when timed practice is the whole activity. Outside those, one well-targeted session plus homework outperforms two passive hours.

Why do families here end up paying for three tutors?+

Because a disappointing report names a subject area rather than a subject, and nobody runs the diagnosis. A student with weak science results usually has one of the three sciences carrying the problem, and one timed paper in each identifies which within a single session. The same applies across a Diploma profile. It is the single most expensive avoidable mistake in this market, and it is why we mark papers before quoting rather than afterwards.

What is the travel premium on an in-home tutor in Dubai?+

Roughly AED 50 to 150 an hour, comparing the in-home band of AED 180 to 500 with the online qualified-tutor band of AED 150 to 300. It is not a markup for its own sake: a tutor crossing the city at five in the afternoon spends well over an unpaid hour to deliver sixty paid minutes. What it buys is presence in the room. It does not buy subject depth, and from International City it buys the longest journey in this part of Dubai.

Which schools do children from the clusters around Dragon Mart attend?+

No international school sits inside International City, so children travel out. The nearest substantial provision is in Al Warqa and Al Qusais, including Universal American School on IB programmes, GEMS Our Own English High School, The Millennium School Dubai and Apple International School. Diploma students more often travel to GEMS Wellington Academy in Silicon Oasis or further to Uptown International School in Mirdif. Those schools are named as local context; IB Gram has no affiliation with any of them.

What time can a session start on a weekday from International City?+

Around six, honestly. Children here travel out to Al Warqa, Al Qusais, Silicon Oasis, Academic City or Mirdif, and in several clusters the school bus rather than a family car sets the return time. Weekend mornings are the better slot for anything demanding - a full timed paper cannot be sat properly at seven in the evening - so one weekday session plus a weekend morning usually works better here than two weekday evenings.

Is there a cheaper way to get Extended Essay or internal assessment help?+

Yes, and it is a shape rather than a discount. Core and internal assessment support is naturally finite: four to eight sessions timed to the school's deadlines, with the session count agreed before the block starts, so the total is known at the outset. That makes it the most controllable purchase in the programme for a household watching a monthly figure. What to refuse is anybody offering to write it, whatever the price, because the malpractice consequence falls on your child.

Are school fees going up in Dubai this year?+

KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. For a household planning tutoring alongside fees, that is one line that is not moving. Dubai's 2026-27 intake also adds seven new private schools - four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate - creating 16,846 new places.

When is the cheapest time of year to start tutoring?+

The rate does not change, but what you can buy with it does. Demand in Dubai peaks twice - after mock results and in the final weeks before the May session - and in those windows the specialists are fully committed, so a family booking then pays the same money for a less suitable tutor. Booking in the first term secures the right person at the same price. The genuinely cheapest useful purchase is the summer bridging block between the Middle Years Programme and the Diploma.

Does the price include VAT, and is it per hour or per session?+

Ask every provider this explicitly, including us, because the two framings are not comparable and some quotes mix them. We publish our own figure after the free trial lesson, against the specific subject, level and session length, and we state plainly whether VAT is included. What we will not do is state the UAE VAT treatment of tuition generally, because that requires a Federal Tax Authority citation we are not in a position to give on a tutoring page.

Is tutoring always the right thing to spend the money on?+

No, and the diagnostic session exists partly to establish that. A student who is not completing the work the school already sets will not be rescued by more teaching, and a difficulty that is organisational rather than academic needs a different intervention entirely - often a conversation with the school rather than a purchase. We would rather say that after the trial lesson than take a booking, because a tutoring arrangement that cannot work is worse value than no arrangement at all.

Must a tutor working privately in Dubai hold a permit?+

Yes. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years, so no tutor can legitimately price it into a rate. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published, so treat any figure quoted at you as unverified. Ask the person teaching your child whether they hold a current permit and ask to see it.

What happens to our money if the tutor is the wrong fit?+

The free trial lesson exists so that decision is made before anything is paid. If a mismatch surfaces later we reassign rather than defend the original match, because a tutor the student has stopped talking to is teaching nothing at full price. What we will not do is rotate tutors as a matter of routine: each new tutor restarts the diagnosis, which means paying two or three sessions of exploratory work over again every time.

Tell us the budget as well as the subject

If your child is on an IB programme and you live in International City - the England, France, China, Greece, Persia or Russia clusters, Warsan Village or anywhere in Al Warsan - send us three things: the subject and level, the last marked piece of work, and the monthly figure you have in mind. We will say honestly whether one session a week is the right shape, whether a finite coaching block would do more for less, and whether a specialist in that combination is actually free. The trial lesson is free and lessons are one-to-one and online, on Gulf Standard Time.
