IGCSE Science Tutor in International City

Hiring an IGCSE science tutor in International City is a budget decision disguised as an academic one, because a student taking three separate sciences can be sold three tutors. Usually one subject is carrying the problem and one timed paper in each identifies it. This page sets out what each route costs to support, which purchases earn their money, and where science budgets disappear. Lessons are one-to-one online.

  • One timed paper per science before anything is quoted
  • Market rates published in AED and attributed to their source
  • No travel premium, because no tutor is driving to Al Warsan

IB & IGCSE in International City

Three sciences, three tutors, and why that is usually wrong

A student taking three separate IGCSE sciences presents the most expensive tutoring question in this market, because the obvious response is three tutors and the correct response almost never is. Report cards name a subject area rather than a subject. A profile that reads badly across science usually has one of the three carrying the problem, and one timed paper in each identifies which within a single session.

The arithmetic is worth doing before anything is bought. At the qualified online band of AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150, one weekly session in one subject is roughly AED 600 to 1,200 a month on Bestimate's mid-range estimates. Three of them is three times that. For a household in these clusters watching a monthly figure, the diagnosis is not a formality - it is the difference between an affordable arrangement and an unaffordable one.

The route matters too, and families are rarely told how. Three separate sciences means up to three potentially tutorable subjects. A double award - Cambridge Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 or Pearson Science Double Award 4SC1 - compresses all three into one entry with papers that move between biology, chemistry and physics, so the tutoring follows the paper rather than the subject. A single combined science such as Cambridge 0653 is one entry, one grade and one plan.

Then there is what is actually worth paying for within a science. Command-term discipline, because 'describe' and 'explain' carry different allocations and students answer both the same way, losing marks on every extended question. The written practical skills, because they are examined directly and almost never taught as a lesson. And in chemistry, mole calculations at the higher tiers, which sit inside questions across the whole paper.

Every AED figure on this page was published by the provider named and read in October 2026, and none of them is an IB Gram rate - ours is quoted after the free trial. Three of the six leading pages in this market publish no price at all and two quote United States dollars, which is not a currency any household in International City transacts in.

One more cost worth naming before the detail. The hourly rate in this market does not rise in February, but the better-matched tutors are committed by then, so the same money buys a weaker arrangement. Booking in the first term of Year 10 or Year 11 is the only real discount available here, and it is obtained by planning rather than by negotiating.

IB Gram delivers this online, one-to-one, on Gulf Standard Time. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE, because home visits are an India-only service for us. Published in-home rates run roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel against AED 150 to 300 online, and from these clusters that premium of roughly AED 50 to 150 an hour buys a long journey rather than better science teaching.

At a glance

  • A weak science profile usually has one subject carrying it; one timed paper per science finds which
  • One weekly session in one subject is roughly AED 600-1,200 a month on mid-range estimates
  • Three routes: separate sciences, double award such as 0654 or 4SC1, and combined science such as 0653
  • The cheapest high-value purchases are command terms, written practical skills and chemistry stoichiometry
  • In-home rates carry a travel premium of roughly AED 50-150 an hour
  • Lessons are one-to-one and online; no tutor travels to a UAE address

What each route costs to support, and how many tutors it can reasonably absorb.

TRIPLEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Three separate sciences

Biology, chemistry and physics as individual subjects with individual grades. The heaviest content load and the route that keeps every onward option open. Students who struggle usually struggle in one of the three rather than across all, which makes targeted tutoring unusually efficient and untargeted tutoring unusually expensive.

This is where the diagnosis saves the most money for a family in these clusters. Three tutors at the qualified band is a substantial monthly commitment; one tutor in the right subject is a third of it. The paper should decide which, not the pattern - though chemistry is the most common culprit in this cluster, usually because of stoichiometry.

DOUBLEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Double award: Cambridge 0654 or Pearson 4SC1

All three sciences compressed into the equivalent of two subjects with two identical grades. Content is reduced and breadth retained, but the papers move between biology, chemistry and physics inside one booklet, and students lose real time re-orienting between them.

The double award suits a single tutor better than the triple route does, because the revision follows the paper rather than the subject. The specific thing worth paying for is practice at switching between subject areas under timed conditions, which is a technique nobody teaches and which costs a weekend session to establish.

COMBINEDAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Single combined science

All three sciences in one subject with one grade and substantially reduced content. Appropriate for a student who needs a science qualification rather than a science future, and the cheapest route to support because there is one plan and one set of papers.

Before spending anything on this route, check what it permits afterwards. Combined science frequently closes A Level and Diploma Higher Level sciences, and those rules belong to the receiving sixth form rather than the board. If a science at sixth form matters, the money may be better spent on a Year 10 case for moving up to the double award.

NOVAges 15-18

November resit

A subject retaken in the November series. For separate sciences this means resitting the one subject that failed, decided on the component breakdown. For a double award or combined science it usually means resitting the whole award, which is a much larger and more expensive undertaking.

That distinction decides whether a November entry makes financial sense. Request the component breakdown as soon as results arrive. Note the timing too: November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026, after most sixth-form courses had started, so ask the receiving school in writing whether a conditional place survives a January result.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Each area is described by what it costs to fix as well as what it demands, because those vary enormously across the three sciences.

Command-term discipline across all three sciences

All routes

State, describe, explain, suggest, compare and calculate each specify a different answer with a different mark allocation. Students answer nearly all as describe. Two or three sessions, transferable across every science, and the cheapest decisive purchase on this list.

Written practical and experimental skills

All routes and boards

Variables, range and interval, repeats, precision, significant figures, plotting, lines of best fit, and evaluations naming a specific limitation. Examined in the Cambridge alternative-to-practical and inside Pearson's written papers, and almost never taught as a lesson of its own.

Chemistry: moles and stoichiometry

Extended, Higher and separate chemistry

Mass to moles, concentration, reacting masses and percentage yield. Sits inside questions across the whole chemistry paper rather than in one section, so six to eight sessions of short calculation sets improves several parts of it at once.

Chemistry: electrolysis and redox

All routes

Products at each electrode, half-equations and the reasoning behind which ion is discharged. Marks go on half-equations and on predictions stated without the justification, which is where the marks sit. Mechanical and inexpensive to drill.

Chemistry: practical vocabulary

All routes

Exact terminology for filtration, crystallisation, distillation, chromatography and gas tests. Vague descriptions score nothing even when the method is understood. Memorisable in a fortnight, which makes it one of the better returns in the subject.

Physics: electricity and circuits

All routes

Current, potential difference, resistance, series and parallel circuits. The heaviest mark load in IGCSE physics and the largest source of confusion. Marks go on circuit reasoning stated as assertion rather than derived from the relationships.

Physics: graphs and motion

All routes

Speed and acceleration graphs, forces, moments and energy transfer. Graph questions dominate, and the recurring error is calculating a gradient from two data points rather than from widely separated points on the line of best fit.

Physics: numerical discipline

All routes

Unit prefixes, powers of ten and conversions applied consistently inside one calculation. Cheap to fix and worth marks the student believes they already earned, which makes it a frustrating loss and a satisfying repair.

Biology: explanation structure

All routes

Mark schemes credit the link from a feature to what it achieves - large surface area for faster diffusion, thin wall for a shorter path. A student who names the structure without that link has described rather than explained, which costs marks on every extended question.

Biology: genetics and data questions

All routes

Monohybrid crosses drawn on paper rather than attempted mentally, and data questions where the axes are read before anything is written. Both are habits rather than content, and both move within a handful of sessions.

Double-award paper navigation

Cambridge 0654 and Pearson 4SC1

Switching between biology, chemistry and physics inside a single paper without losing time to re-orientation. Practised by paper section under timed conditions, which is the opposite of how most students revise, and worth one weekend session to establish.

Bridging into A Level or Diploma sciences

Post-IGCSE

The algebra, unit handling and graph skills the next course assumes from its first week. Six to eight summer sessions when the commute disappears, and the cheapest genuinely useful science tutoring a family in these clusters buys.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three purchases with defined ends, plus an honest account of the in-home option and what its premium pays for.

One subject, properly, after a diagnosis

Where a timed paper in each science shows one subject carrying the problem, the efficient arrangement is one weekly session in that subject alone. At the qualified band that is roughly AED 600 to 1,200 a month on mid-range estimates rather than three times it, and the progress is visible because the target is narrow.

  • Preceded by one timed paper in each science, marked properly
  • Keyed to the specific syllabus code for that subject
  • Slot timed to the bus, usually from 6pm on weekdays
  • Error log maintained and reviewed each session

The cross-science technique block

Two or three sessions on command terms and explanation structure, which transfer across all three sciences at once. Explain means causes; describe means features; suggest means applying knowledge to an unfamiliar context; and the mark allocation printed beside the question is an instruction about how many points to make.

  • One short block improving all three sciences simultaneously
  • Mark allocation planning taught as a habit
  • Transferable to the humanities as well
  • The cheapest decisive purchase available in science

The written practical skills block

Three or four sessions on what the Cambridge alternative-to-practical and Pearson's written papers actually assess: variables, range and interval, repeats, precision, significant figures, plotting, lines of best fit and evaluations naming a specific limitation and improvement. Taught entirely on real datasets, which suits a student who cannot return to the laboratory.

  • Board-specific: ATP technique or Pearson method-design questions
  • Worked on real data rather than described in the abstract
  • Evaluation writing taught as a structure
  • No board papers supplied; official sources cited and linked

In-home science tutoring, and what the premium buys

Published in-home one-to-one rates in Dubai run roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel, per Bestimate at 180 to 350 and advertised home-tutor rates at 200 to 500, with monthly packages at AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour sessions. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; that service exists only in India.

  • No IB Gram tutor travels to an address in Dubai or anywhere in the UAE
  • Roughly AED 50-150 an hour of the in-home rate is travel
  • Apparatus work happens at school under either arrangement
  • The same money online buys more sessions or a better-matched tutor

What each route costs to support

The route your child is on sets the maximum sensible spend, and most families never see it laid out. Three separate sciences can absorb three tutors, which is why the diagnosis matters most on that route. A double award has one entry and papers that move between subjects, so it absorbs one tutor well and three badly. A single combined science has one plan and is the cheapest route to support.

Get the route from the examinations officer rather than inferring it: three entries with three syllabus codes means separate sciences; one entry such as Cambridge 0654 or Pearson 4SC1 means a double award; one entry such as Cambridge 0653 means combined science. It takes minutes and it changes both the plan and the budget.

The table below sets the routes against what they can reasonably absorb and what the monthly figure looks like at the qualified online band. The rates are market figures attributed to the providers publishing them and read in October 2026, with Bestimate's monthly estimates used for the per-month column. None of them is an IB Gram rate.

One route-specific warning that is about money rather than marks. If your child is on combined science and may want a science at sixth form, the most valuable spend may not be tutoring the current course at all - it may be a Year 10 block aimed at producing marked evidence at the double-award level, because combined science frequently closes those options entirely.

Science purchases ranked by what they return

If the monthly figure is fixed, the order of spending matters more than the hourly rate. Science is well suited to this kind of ranking, because two of the highest-return purchases transfer across all three subjects at once and a third is examined directly while being almost never taught.

Command terms come first. The mark schemes in all three sciences credit different things for describe, explain and suggest, and students answer all of them as describe. Two or three sessions fixes it across biology, chemistry and physics simultaneously, and the habit transfers to the humanities as well. It is the cheapest decisive purchase available in the whole subject area.

Written practical skills come second, because they are examined directly in the Cambridge alternative-to-practical and inside Pearson's written papers, and because they are taught properly nowhere. Variables, range, repeats, precision, significant figures, plotting, lines of best fit, and an evaluation that names one specific limitation and one realistic improvement. Three or four sessions on real datasets.

Chemistry stoichiometry comes third but only for students at Extended or Higher tier, where it sits inside questions across the whole paper. After those three, you are into ordinary content teaching with ordinary returns, which is where an open weekly arrangement belongs if it belongs anywhere. Note also what sits at the bottom of the ranking and at the top of most sales conversations: general weekly support in a named subject, which is the easiest thing for a provider to describe and the hardest thing for a parent to evaluate afterwards.

What each AED band contains for IGCSE science

The useful exercise is matching a band to a job rather than looking for the cheapest hour, because for science the bands differ in what they can actually deliver. Every figure here was published by the provider named and read in October 2026, and none is an IB Gram rate - ours is quoted after the free trial against the work the diagnosis identifies.

Budget and university-student online tutors advertise from roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. For combined-science and Core-tier content, and for drilling command terms once somebody has taught the distinction, that band is genuinely usable. What it less often contains is fluency with Extended-tier chemistry calculations or with alternative-to-practical technique.

Qualified subject tutors online sit at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150. This is where most useful IGCSE science tutoring in Dubai happens, and where all three ranked purchases above belong. Specialists run AED 200 to 450 or more, with TutorChase at AED 270, which is defensible for a Higher-tier subject that gates a sixth-form place and hard to justify for combined-science revision.

The monthly view is what decides whether a science plan survives contact with the household budget. Bestimate's estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-range and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist examination-year support, with published online packages at AED 799 a month for eight sessions - and eight sessions a month is the figure to hold onto, because it is roughly two a week, which is what one science discipline in real difficulty needs rather than one. An International City family weighing that against school fees has one piece of certainty to plan with: KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that Dubai private school fees would not increase for the 2026-27 academic year, so tutoring is the line that moves this year. One discipline at the mid band is a recognisable monthly commitment; three at the specialist band is a second set of school fees, which is the arithmetic the rest of this page exists to prevent.

Why one timed paper per science is the best money you will spend

  • One timed paper per science, marked question by question against the mark scheme
  • The reason for each lost mark written in the student's own words
  • Expect one subject to carry most of the deficit, with three or four recurring reasons
  • Extended-response losses across all three mean command terms, not three tutors
  • For a double award, check whether the losses cluster in one subject area within the paper

It costs nothing beyond the time, and it routinely changes the monthly figure by two thirds. The method is simple: one timed paper in biology, one in chemistry and one in physics, marked question by question against the published mark scheme, with the reason for every lost mark written down in the student's own words rather than summarised by an adult.

What emerges is almost always a concentration. One subject will account for most of the deficit, and within it three or four recurring reasons will account for most of the loss. In this cluster chemistry is the most frequent culprit, usually because of mole calculations at the higher tiers, but physics carries it often enough that assuming would be a mistake.

The second thing that emerges is the kind of loss. Marks lost with correct final answers mean method. Marks lost in clusters mean a topic. Marks lost heavily in the final third mean pacing. Marks lost on extended-response questions across all three sciences mean command terms, which is the cross-subject block rather than three separate arrangements.

For a double-award or combined-science candidate the exercise is slightly different but just as useful: look at whether the losses cluster in one of the three subject areas within the paper. A student can lose most of their marks in chemistry sections while appearing uniformly weak overall, and that distinction decides whether you need a chemistry tutor or a paper-navigation session. Either way the exercise costs nothing beyond the time it takes, which makes it the only step in this process with no downside at all.

05

The four ways science budgets disappear

These patterns account for most of the science spending families in this district later regret, and all four are diagnosis failures rather than teaching failures. The first and largest is buying three tutors when one subject is carrying the problem, which triples the monthly figure for thinner progress in each subject than a single focused arrangement would deliver.

The second is buying content teaching when the loss is technique. A student who understands osmosis and loses marks for describing rather than explaining does not need osmosis re-taught; they need two sessions on command terms, which also improves their chemistry and physics. Content teaching is the default sale in this market because it is the easiest thing to describe, not because it is usually the right purchase.

The third is buying apparatus-focused revision for a board that does not examine practical work directly. Pearson's 4BI1, 4CH1, 4PH1 and 4SC1 have no practical examination; Cambridge sciences may sit a practical paper or the alternative-to-practical depending on the school's choice. Revising apparatus technique for a Pearson candidate is weeks spent on something unexamined, and nobody checks because nobody asks for the entry list.

The fourth is starting after the mock results, when demand across the emirate peaks and the better-matched tutors are committed. The hourly rate is identical in October and in February; what differs is who is still available. That is the only genuine discount in this market and it is obtained by booking early rather than by negotiating.

06

Practical skills, and why online costs nothing here

A family paying for science tutoring reasonably asks whether online delivery is a compromise. For practical work the honest answer in this district is that it costs nothing, because the thing a tutor cannot provide is the thing a travelling tutor cannot provide either: access to the school's laboratory. From these clusters, once the bus has gone, the apparatus is out of reach for the day whoever is sitting in your living room.

What is examined, meanwhile, is mostly not apparatus handling. Cambridge candidates sit either a practical examination or the alternative-to-practical paper depending on the school's choice. Pearson candidates sit neither: 4BI1, 4CH1, 4PH1 and the Science Double Award 4SC1 assess experimental skills inside the written papers as method-design and data-analysis questions.

Both routes test the same underlying skills and all of them are taught on a shared screen with a real dataset. Identifying independent, dependent and controlled variables. Choosing a sensible range and interval. Justifying a number of repeats. Reading a scale to appropriate precision. Recording to consistent significant figures. Plotting with a sensible scale. Drawing a line of best fit rather than joining points. Writing an evaluation naming one specific limitation and one realistic improvement.

So the sensible purchase for a student here is a short block on exactly that list, matched to the board their school entered them for. Three or four sessions, on datasets, with the official specimen material cited rather than supplied - we link cambridgeinternational.org and qualifications.pearson.com rather than distributing board papers, which is both the correct copyright position and the only way to be sure the version is current.

07

A two-year science spend plan

Spreading a modest budget across two years produces a better outcome than concentrating it in Year 11, and the reason is availability as much as pedagogy. Demand for IGCSE science tutoring in Dubai spikes after mock results and again in the final weeks, and those are precisely the periods when the better-matched tutors have no slots left.

The order that works is: command terms in the first term of Year 10, because the block is short and improves all three sciences at once while nothing is urgent. Then the written practical skills block, timed so the technique is in place before the first school assessments that test it. Then, if the papers justify it, a targeted subject block on whichever science the diagnosis names. Then timed-paper work in the final two terms.

That totals somewhere between twelve and twenty sessions across two years for most students, which at the qualified band is a defined and modest commitment with a known end. The alternative - three open weekly arrangements through Year 11 - costs several times as much and leaves nobody able to say afterwards what the money changed.

On the calendar: Cambridge runs IGCSE and O Level examinations in a June series and a November series for UAE candidates, with the February and March series offered to India only. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and in November - its November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results reached students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026.

08

What to ask before paying, and what we do not claim

Five questions, deliberately about money and accountability rather than teaching philosophy. Does the individual teaching my child hold a current MoHRE private tuition work permit, and may I see it? Is the figure per hour or per session, and does it include VAT? Which subject, board and tier have you taught, and for how many cohorts? What is the replacement policy if the match fails? And what will you do with internally assessed work, and what will you refuse to do?

On the permit: the MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is granted free of charge for two years, and individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so disregard any amount quoted at you. Because the permit is free, it cannot legitimately be priced into a rate.

On coursework: several IGCSE subjects carry internally assessed components, and wherever a mark is awarded for work submitted as the student's own, a tutor may teach the skill, explain the criteria, question a draft and give written feedback - and may not supply text, rewrite paragraphs, choose topics or generate data. The search results this page sits in include an operator selling completed coursework, and a malpractice finding from that falls on the candidate.

And what we do not claim: no office, centre or branch anywhere in the UAE; no KHDA Educational Services Permit, which is issued to training institutes with premises in Dubai; no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, Cambridge or Pearson; no promises about grades and no published predicted scores; no ratings we cannot evidence with countable dated reviews; and no board material supplied as downloads.

Where we tutor

The clusters, and what the journey adds

For a science family here the geography shows up twice: in the school run, and in what an in-home arrangement would cost in money and time.

China Cluster and Dragon Mart

The commercial core with the district's slowest afternoon traffic. The cluster where a travelling tutor's journey, and so the travel premium, is hardest to justify on any budget.

England and France Clusters

Dense residential blocks feeding mainly Al Warqa and Al Qusais, with many working households and consequently strong demand for weekend-morning sessions over weekday evenings.

Greece, Italy and Spain Clusters

The southern blocks nearest the Ras Al Khor road, giving the quickest route towards Garhoud, Nad Al Hamar and Mirdif. The shortest journeys in the district.

Persia and Russia Clusters

Heavily bus-dependent, so once the bus has gone the school laboratory is out of reach for the day. Practical-skills work therefore has to happen at home, where it is taught on datasets.

Morocco Cluster and Warsan Village

The lower-density edge towards the Dubai-Hatta road, with Silicon Oasis and Academic City reachable while avoiding the worst interchange delays.

Al Warqa

The nearest substantial school provision, including GEMS Our Own English High School and Universal American School. The shortest run available from these clusters.

Al Qusais and Al Nahda

A dense older school cluster reached via Al Rashidiya, including The Millennium School Dubai, Apple International School and Dubai Scholars Private School.

Silicon Oasis and Academic City

On Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, with Dubai English Speaking College and GEMS Wellington Academy. Where most British-curriculum candidates from this district study.

Mirdif and Nad Al Sheba

The longer runs, chosen for a specific school or curriculum, generally with the deepest laboratory provision available to students from these clusters.

Three entries with three codes means separate sciences; one entry such as 0654 or 4SC1 means a double award; one such as 0653 means combined science. It also tells us which board, which decides whether apparatus revision belongs in the plan at all.

  2. 02

One timed paper in each science

Marked question by question against the published mark scheme, with the reason for each lost mark written down. This is the step that usually shows one subject carrying the problem, and it routinely changes the monthly figure by two thirds.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson and a written note

A real lesson on real science with the student working. Afterwards a plain summary: which subject needs the money, whether the losses are technique or content, and which of the ranked purchases to buy first. Say no and nothing is owed.

  4. 04

Buy in order, not all at once

Command terms first because one block improves all three sciences. Then written practical skills. Then a targeted subject block if the papers justify it. Then timed papers. A defined plan with a known end beats three open weekly arrangements.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

We mark before we quote

One timed paper in each science usually shows that a single subject is carrying the problem, which cuts the monthly figure by around two thirds. It costs nothing but the time, and it is the first thing we do rather than the last.

Purchases ranked, not hours sold

Command terms improve all three sciences in two or three sessions. Written practical skills are examined directly and taught almost nowhere. Those come before content teaching, which is the default sale in this market because it is easiest to describe.

Every AED figure attributed and dated

Three of the six leading pages in this market publish no price at all and two quote dollars. Ours name the provider and the month they were read, and none of them is presented as our own rate.

The board checked before apparatus revision

Pearson's 4BI1, 4CH1, 4PH1 and 4SC1 have no practical examination. Revising apparatus technique for a Pearson candidate is weeks spent on something unexamined, and it happens constantly because nobody asks for the entry list.

No travel line on the bill

In-home rates carry roughly AED 50 to 150 an hour of travel, and from these clusters that buys a long journey. It also cannot buy laboratory access, which is the one thing a science student here actually cannot get from home.

The route's consequences priced in

If combined science would close a science at sixth form, the best spend may be a Year 10 block producing marked evidence at the double-award level rather than tutoring the current course. That is a different purchase and we would rather name it.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in International City: your questions answered

Can I get an IGCSE science tutor in International City?+

Yes, as one-to-one online tuition rather than a tutor coming to your flat, since IB Gram offers home visits only in India. For science from this district online delivery costs nothing in practical terms, because the thing a tutor cannot provide is laboratory access - and a travelling tutor cannot provide that either. The written practical marks sit in skills taught on a shared screen with real data, which is where a short block of sessions belongs.

Will my child taking biology, chemistry and physics need three tutors?+

Almost never. A weak science profile usually has one of the three carrying the problem, and one timed paper in each - marked question by question against the published mark scheme - identifies which within a single session. At the qualified online band of AED 150 to 300 an hour, three tutors is three times the monthly figure for thinner progress in each subject. Chemistry is the most frequent culprit in this cluster, usually because of mole calculations at the higher tiers.

What does science tutoring cost per month for a family here?+

Bestimate's 2026 estimates for a weekly one-hour session put mid-range support at AED 600 to 1,200 a month per subject and specialist examination-year support at AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more, with published online packages at AED 799 a month for eight sessions. Hourly, qualified subject tutors online sit at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150. Those are market figures from the sources named, read in October 2026, not IB Gram rates.

Which science purchase gives the best return?+

Command terms, by a clear margin. The mark schemes in all three sciences credit different things for describe, explain and suggest, and students answer nearly all of them as describe, which costs marks on every extended-response question. Two or three sessions fixes it across biology, chemistry and physics at once, and the habit transfers to the humanities too. Nothing else in science improves three subjects for the price of one block.

Is the budget rate band usable for IGCSE science?+

For some jobs. Budget and university-student online tutors advertise from roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik from 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from 33 to 52, and that band is genuinely usable for combined-science and Core-tier content, and for drilling command terms once somebody has taught the distinction properly. What it less often contains is fluency with Extended-tier chemistry calculations or with alternative-to-practical technique, which is where the qualified band earns its money.

Does the route my child is on change the cost?+

Substantially. Three separate sciences can absorb three tutors, which is why the diagnosis matters most there. A double award such as Cambridge 0654 or Pearson 4SC1 has one entry and papers that move between subjects, so it absorbs one tutor well and three badly. A single combined science such as Cambridge 0653 has one plan and is the cheapest route to support. Get the route from the examinations officer rather than inferring it from the report.

Is it worth spending money if my child is on combined science?+

It depends on what comes next, and this is a money question rather than an academic one. Combined science frequently closes A Level and Diploma Higher Level sciences, and those rules belong to the receiving sixth form rather than to the board. If a science at sixth form matters, the most valuable spend may be a Year 10 block aimed at producing marked evidence at the double-award level, rather than tutoring the current course. Ask two sixth forms in writing first.

Why would apparatus revision ever be wasted money?+

Because Pearson's International GCSE sciences - 4BI1, 4CH1, 4PH1 and the Science Double Award 4SC1 - have no practical examination at all, and assess experimental skills inside the written papers instead. Cambridge sciences may sit a practical paper or the alternative-to-practical, and the school chooses which. A Pearson candidate revising apparatus technique is preparing for something unexamined, and it happens constantly because nobody asks the examinations officer for the entry list first.

What exactly does the written practical component assess?+

Not dexterity. Identifying independent, dependent and controlled variables; choosing a sensible range and interval; justifying a number of repeats; reading a scale to appropriate precision; recording to consistent significant figures; plotting with a sensible scale; drawing a line of best fit rather than joining points; and writing an evaluation naming one specific limitation and one realistic improvement. Three or four sessions on real datasets covers that list, and all of it works on a shared screen.

Does starting later in the year cost more?+

The hourly rate does not change, but what you can buy with it does. Demand for IGCSE science tutoring in Dubai spikes after mock results and again in the final weeks, and in those windows the better-matched tutors are fully committed, so a family booking then pays the same money for a less suitable arrangement. Booking in the first term of Year 10 or Year 11 is the only genuine discount available in this market.

How should we spread a modest budget across two years?+

Command terms in the first term of Year 10, because the block is short and improves all three sciences while nothing is urgent. Then the written practical skills block, before the first school assessments that test it. Then a targeted subject block if the papers justify one. Then timed-paper work in the final two terms. That totals roughly twelve to twenty sessions across two years rather than three open weekly arrangements through Year 11.

Does practice between sessions change the value of the money?+

Considerably. Command-term discipline, numerical habits and graph technique change through repetition rather than through explanation, so an hour of teaching followed by nothing delivers perhaps a third of its value at the full price. Twenty minutes of past-paper questions on two evenings costs nothing and roughly triples the return on the session. We agree the practice and the evening it happens in, because otherwise it reliably does not happen.

Is a November resit affordable on the double award route?+

It is a bigger financial decision than for separate sciences, because resitting a double award usually means resitting the whole award rather than the one science that went wrong. For separate sciences you can ask for the component breakdown and resit the single weak subject, which is a far shorter and cheaper job. Request the breakdown either way as soon as results arrive, and check that a sixth-form place survives a result arriving in late January.

Is the tutor's permit something that affects the price?+

No, and that is worth knowing. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years, so no tutor can legitimately price it into a rate. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published, so treat any figure quoted at you as unverified. Ask to see the permit.

What if the money would be better spent elsewhere?+

Then we say so after the trial lesson rather than taking the booking. A student not completing the work the school already sets will not be rescued by more teaching, and a difficulty that is organisational rather than scientific usually needs a conversation with the school instead. Most schools in Al Warqa, Al Qusais and Silicon Oasis also run free after-school subject support that nobody advertises, and trying that for a month costs nothing at all.

Send the entry list and three marked papers

If your child is sitting IGCSE sciences and you live in International City, two documents set the budget. The entry list tells us the route and the board - and therefore whether apparatus revision belongs in the plan or would be wasted. One marked paper in each science tells us which subject is actually costing the marks and whether the losses are technique or content. Most families discover they need one tutor and a short cross-science block rather than three arrangements. The trial lesson is free; lessons are one-to-one and online.
