IGCSE Home Tutor in International City

The practical problem with finding an IGCSE home tutor in International City is the school run. No international school sits inside the district, so children travel to Al Warqa, Al Qusais, Silicon Oasis or Mirdif and come back on a bus that arrives when it arrives. This page works out which schools the clusters feed, what time the day actually ends, and when a session fits. Lessons are one-to-one and online.

  • Sessions timed to the bus, not to an optimistic 4pm slot
  • Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel specifications both covered
  • Weekend-morning slots for full timed papers
  • Free trial lesson with a written diagnosis, no commitment

IB & IGCSE in International City

What time does the school day actually end here?

The honest answer in International City is later than the timetable says. The district has no international school inside any of its clusters, so a Year 10 or Year 11 student travels out - most often to Al Warqa or Al Qusais, often to Silicon Oasis or Academic City, sometimes as far as Mirdif or Garhoud. The school day may finish at half past two, and the child may walk through the door of a flat in the England Cluster at a quarter past four.

That gap matters more than any other practical fact about tutoring here. It is the difference between a 4pm session that is theoretically possible and a 6pm session that actually happens every week. Families who book against the timetable rather than against the bus lose the first ten minutes of most lessons, and over a two-year IGCSE course that is a substantial amount of paid time spent waiting.

The second constraint is homework. A Year 11 student carrying eight or nine IGCSE subjects has school work most evenings, and a tutoring session placed on top of it without thought simply displaces the work the school set. The sessions that produce results are the ones with agreed homework between them, which means the weekly timetable has to have room for both the session and the work after it.

The third is that a bus-dependent household has less flexibility than a car-dependent one. In several clusters the school bus rather than a family car sets the return time, and bus timings do not negotiate. This is why weekend mornings matter so much in this district: a Saturday morning slot is the only time in the week when a full timed paper can be sat properly, and a three-hour paper cannot be done at seven in the evening after a long day.

None of this has anything to do with whether a tutor lives nearby, which is the point. IB Gram delivers one-to-one lessons over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, and does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE - home visits are an India-only service. A session that starts when the laptop opens is worth considerably more to a household on this timetable than one that depends on a second person also crossing the city at half past five.

There is one more reason the timetable deserves this much attention. Tutoring arrangements in this district fail far more often from scheduling friction than from bad teaching: a slot that moves weekly, a session that starts fifteen minutes late every time, a plan that assumed two free weekday evenings the household never had. Getting the week right is unglamorous and it is the part that decides whether the arrangement still exists in February. What follows is the practical version: which schools each part of the district feeds and how long the run takes, a weekly timetable that fits a session and its homework around nine subjects, the syllabus codes to confirm before anybody teaches anything, and the June and November series counted backwards from a bus timetable rather than from an ideal.

At a glance

  • No international school sits inside International City; every secondary student commutes
  • Realistic weekday session start from this district: around 6pm
  • Weekend mornings are the only slot where a full timed paper can be sat properly
  • A session without agreed homework after it delivers a fraction of its value
  • Confirm the syllabus code and tier with the examinations officer before booking
  • Lessons are one-to-one and online; no tutor travels to a UAE address
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Four positions families in these clusters write to us from, each with a different timetable problem as well as a different academic one.

Y9Ages 13-14

Year 9 and the option choices

The year the tier and route decisions are made, usually by the school and often without a conversation. Mathematics is split into Core and Extended or Foundation and Higher; sciences into separate subjects, a double award or a single combined science. Both decisions cap what is achievable two years later.

For a commuting family this is also the year to ask about the practical side: what time the bus returns, how much homework a Year 10 evening carries, and whether the school runs after-school support that would make private tutoring unnecessary. Several schools in Al Warqa and Al Qusais do, and nobody mentions it unless asked.

Y10Ages 14-15

Year 10

Content is taught and nothing is urgent, which makes this the cheapest year to fix a problem and the right year to argue for a tier change with marked evidence. Past-paper work can begin at the intended tier rather than being saved for Year 11, which is the commonest planning error at IGCSE.

The timetable is also kinder in Year 10 than in Year 11, which matters here. A single weekday session plus homework fits a Year 10 evening comfortably; the same arrangement in Year 11, with nine subjects setting work and mock examinations approaching, needs the weekend slot instead.

Y11Ages 15-16

Year 11 and the June series

Content finishes and the useful work becomes technique: working shown, command terms answered as asked, timing per mark, final long questions attempted rather than abandoned. That reliably recovers marks and cannot replace a topic never taught, and an honest tutor says which you are buying.

For a bus-dependent household in Year 11, the realistic shape is one weekday evening session and one weekend morning. The weekend slot carries the timed papers; the weekday slot carries the mark-scheme walkthrough and the error log. Two weekday evenings rarely works, because the second one lands on a tired student with homework still to do.

NOVAges 15-18

November resit

A subject retaken in the November series after a June result below a sixth-form requirement. Cambridge and Pearson both run November sessions, so the gap is roughly five months. Entry goes through the school or an approved centre and the deadline sits months ahead of the papers.

Timing matters for a family planning a sixth-form move. November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026, after most courses had started, so ask the receiving school in writing whether a conditional place survives until a January result before entering. Also request the component breakdown, because that decides whether a resit is sensible at all.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Each entry says what the subject costs in evening time as well as what it demands academically, because in this district those are the same question.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580 / 0980)

Core and Extended

Two papers, with a non-calculator component in common variants. The quickest recoverable marks are working shown and rounding controlled. Fits a weekday evening well, because the practice sets are short and the feedback is immediate.

Mathematics A (Pearson 4MA1)

Foundation and Higher

Two equally weighted papers, calculator permitted throughout, so non-calculator drilling is wasted here. The recoverable marks sit in the long multi-step problems at the end of each paper, which students leave blank far more often than they attempt.

Physics (Cambridge 0625 / Pearson 4PH1)

All tiers

Electricity and electromagnetism carry the heaviest load. Cambridge offers a practical paper or the alternative-to-practical; Pearson 4PH1 has no practical examination. Confirm which before buying revision aimed at apparatus technique.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620 / Pearson 4CH1)

All tiers

Moles calculations and electrolysis repay targeted drilling more than anything else in the subject. Practical questions reward exact vocabulary for separation techniques and gas tests, which is memorisable in a fortnight of short evening sessions.

Biology (Cambridge 0610 / Pearson 4BI1)

All tiers

Volume rather than difficulty, with command terms deciding the grade. Suits short, frequent work rather than long sessions, which fits a commuting household better than most subjects on this list.

Co-ordinated Sciences (Cambridge 0654)

Double award

Three sciences in two subjects, with papers that move between biology, chemistry and physics. Students lose real time re-orienting, so revision should follow the paper section rather than the subject - a specific technique worth a weekend session to establish.

English Language (Cambridge 0500 / Pearson 4EA1)

First language

Form errors cost whole mark bands: a good essay written when a letter was specified scores badly. Needs the weekend slot for full timed writing, because a complete response cannot be produced properly after seven in the evening.

English as a Second Language (Cambridge 0510 / 0511)

Core and Extended

Accuracy beats ambition in the mark scheme. Note-taking and summary tasks are the most teachable components and the ones where short evening sessions produce the fastest visible movement.

Business Studies (0450) and Economics (0455)

IGCSE

Both reward application to the case material in front of the student. Economics diagrams must be titled, labelled and referenced in the prose; Business Studies top bands need a justified judgement rather than a list. Both work well in short sessions.

Geography (0460) and History (0470)

IGCSE

Geography marks go on case-study specificity - named place, figure, date. History marks go on source evaluation that addresses provenance rather than content. Both are techniques rather than content and both move quickly.

Computer Science (0478) and ICT (0417)

IGCSE

Computer Science loses marks on trace tables and algorithms that ignore edge cases. ICT is practical-assessment heavy and the loss is procedural: steps omitted, evidence not captured, naming conventions ignored.

Bridging into A Level or the Diploma

Post-IGCSE

Indices, surds, algebraic fractions, function notation and timed essay structure, all assumed from the first week of Year 12. Six to eight summer sessions, when the evening timetable is empty and nothing competes for the hours.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three arrangements that fit a commuting household's week, plus a straight answer on the in-home option.

One fixed weekday evening session

A single 60-minute session in the same slot every week, timed to the bus rather than to the school bell. A fixed slot matters more for a bus-dependent household than for any other kind, because a session that moves each week eventually stops happening. Content follows the school's scheme of work so nothing runs in parallel.

  • Slot set against the worst-case return journey, not the average
  • Same tutor weekly, so nothing is re-diagnosed
  • Agreed homework, checked at the start of the next session
  • Gulf Standard Time scheduling with no travel at either end

Weekend morning for timed papers

The slot that makes real examination practice possible in this district. A full paper sat to time, marked properly against the published mark scheme, and walked through question by question. It cannot be done on a weekday evening after a long commute, and it is the single most useful thing a Year 11 student does.

  • Full papers sat under genuine timed conditions
  • Mark scheme walked through rather than a score given
  • Error log updated and checked for recurrence
  • Usually one weekend morning a week through Year 11

School-holiday blocks

Concentrated work in the holidays, when the commute disappears and the evening timetable empties. For a household on this schedule, holiday weeks are worth more per session than term-time weeks, because a student is fresh and a two-hour block is possible. Particularly suited to rebuilding a missing topic.

  • Longer sessions possible without competing with homework
  • Good for topic rebuilding rather than technique
  • Bridging work before Year 12 fits here naturally
  • Agreed session count, so the total is known in advance

In-home tutoring in this market, and our position

Dubai does have tutors who travel, at published in-home one-to-one rates of roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel, per Bestimate's 2026 table and advertised home-tutor rates. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; that service exists only in India. From this district an in-home tutor is crossing the city against the same traffic your child just did.

  • No IB Gram tutor travels to an address in Dubai or anywhere in the UAE
  • The in-home premium is roughly AED 50-150 an hour of travel
  • A tutor arriving at 6.15pm instead of 6pm costs the lesson's first quarter
  • Online sessions start when the laptop opens

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in International City

01

Which schools the clusters feed, and how long the run takes

Because no international school sits inside International City, the first useful piece of planning is simply knowing where the children go and what the journey costs in time. The destinations fall into three groups. Al Warqa and Al Qusais are the near group, around twenty minutes on a clear morning. Silicon Oasis and Academic City are the middle group, reached on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road. Mirdif, Garhoud and Nad Al Sheba are the far group, chosen deliberately for a particular school.

The afternoon journey is the one that matters for tutoring and it is not the morning journey in reverse. School buses make multiple stops, the Ras Al Khor and Dragon Mart junctions are slower in the afternoon, and a bus that leaves a school in Silicon Oasis at three can reach the Persia Cluster closer to four than to half past three. Families consistently underestimate this, and consistently book sessions that start before the student is home.

The table below gives working figures by destination group, with the realistic earliest session start for each. Treat them as planning numbers rather than promises; the point is the shape rather than the minutes. If your child is on a school bus, ask the school for the actual route timing rather than estimating, because bus routes vary and a ten-minute error repeated weekly is expensive.

One further operational point for this district specifically. Several clusters have limited parking and dense through-traffic around Dragon Mart, which is exactly the sort of friction that turns an in-home arrangement from convenient into unreliable. It is a small thing that matters, because a tutoring arrangement only works if it actually happens every week.

A week that fits nine subjects, a commute and a tutor

A Year 11 IGCSE student typically carries eight or nine subjects, each setting work. Adding tutoring to that week without removing anything produces a student who attends the session and stops doing the school's homework, which is a net loss however good the tutor is. So the week has to be designed rather than filled.

The arrangement that works in this district is one fixed weekday evening session plus one weekend morning, with agreed homework from the session fitted into a named evening rather than left to find its own space. Two weekday evenings rarely works: the second lands on a tired student who still has school work to do, and the quality of the second session is routinely half that of the first.

The weekend morning is where the heavy work goes. A full timed paper takes two to three hours including the walkthrough, and that is not available on a weekday evening at any price. Students who sit one complete paper a week through the final term arrive at the series having practised the actual activity rather than having revised for it, and the difference in performance is substantial.

The table below sets out a workable week. It is deliberately modest, because the commonest failure in this district is an ambitious schedule that collapses in week three. A plan the household can actually sustain for two terms beats a better plan abandoned in October. The test is whether it still works on a bad week rather than a good one.

Confirm the specification before anybody teaches anything

  • Cambridge codes in common use: 0580 and 0980 Mathematics, 0625 Physics, 0620 Chemistry, 0610 Biology, 0654 Co-ordinated Sciences, 0500 English
  • Pearson equivalents: 4MA1 and 4MB1 Mathematics, 4PH1, 4CH1, 4BI1, 4SC1 Science Double Award, 4EA1 English Language A
  • Non-calculator practice is essential for some Cambridge variants and wasted for Pearson 4MA1
  • Cambridge sciences may sit a practical paper or the alternative-to-practical; Pearson sciences sit neither
  • Core and Foundation cap at C or grade 5; Extended and Higher run the full range

This is five minutes of work that prevents a term of waste, and it is particularly worth doing in this district because students here change schools within Dubai more often than in more settled neighbourhoods. A move in Year 10 can mean a change of specification mid-course, which leaves content covered under one syllabus and never under the other.

Ask the examinations officer for the entry list: subject, board, syllabus code, tier and option for every paper. It is common for a single Year 11 student to sit Cambridge in three subjects and Pearson Edexcel in two. The differences are operational rather than cosmetic. Cambridge Mathematics 0580 includes a non-calculator component in common variants; Pearson 4MA1 permits a calculator in both papers. Cambridge sciences offer a practical paper or the alternative-to-practical; Pearson's 4PH1, 4CH1 and 4BI1 have no practical examination at all.

The tier is the other number to confirm. Cambridge Core caps the achievable grade at C or grade 5 and Pearson Foundation caps at grade 5, while Extended and Higher run the full range. Both lower tiers comfortably satisfy Ministry of Education equivalency, which asks for five accredited subjects at no less than E or grade 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic education. Neither satisfies a sixth form asking for grade 6 in mathematics.

With that list in hand, a tutor can say honestly whether they teach that exact specification routinely. A provider who quotes before asking for it is going to teach a generic course, and for a household already spending an hour a day on a commute, paying for content the child will never sit is the least affordable kind of waste.

The June and November series, counted back from a bus timetable

Cambridge International runs IGCSE and O Level examinations in a June series and a November series, and UAE candidates sit those two. The February and March series is offered to India only, so any advice to prepare for a February paper is advice for a different country. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November.

The sourced reference points are useful for planning: Pearson's November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026; June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026; November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so any date you act on should come from the live official timetable.

One Cambridge detail that belongs in every plan: Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and publishes a separate timetable version for each, stating that it is essential to use the correct version for your zone and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong one. If your child travels to a school in another district, the zone is the centre's rather than yours, and it is worth confirming.

Counting backwards from the papers for a commuting household produces one specific recommendation: start the weekend-morning timed paper habit in the first term of Year 11, not after the mocks. By the second term the weekends fill with mock preparation and coursework deadlines, and the habit never establishes. Starting early costs nothing extra and is the difference between practising the examination and revising for it.

05

Mock results, and reading them properly from a distance

Mock results in Dubai schools typically arrive in the second term, and for a family that does not pass the school gate daily they often arrive as a number with no context. The grade is the least useful part. The marked script, with the question-level breakdown, is what makes a plan possible, and it is worth asking for explicitly rather than waiting for a parents' evening.

Read the script for pattern. Marks lost evenly across a paper usually mean timing or technique. Marks lost in clusters usually mean a topic. Marks lost heavily in the last third almost always mean pacing, which is the easiest of the three to fix and the one that responds fastest to timed practice. A gap between Paper 1 and Paper 2 is a question-style problem rather than a knowledge gap, and that is a fortnight of work rather than a term.

For a student sitting a double-award science or a combined science, look for something else as well: whether the marks cluster in one of the three sciences. The papers move between biology, chemistry and physics, and a student can lose most of their marks in one subject area while appearing uniformly weak. That distinction decides whether you need one tutor or none.

Bringing the marked script to the first session saves two sessions of exploratory questioning. At market rates for a qualified online subject tutor - roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour across this market, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 - that is real money for a household already carrying a commute and school fees.

06

Practical science when nobody can get back to the laboratory

This district has a specific version of a common problem. A student at a school in Silicon Oasis who needs an extra set of readings cannot simply walk back in after dinner, because the school is a bus ride away and the bus has gone. So whatever practical work the course requires has to be completed in the timetabled laboratory sessions, and the preparation around it has to happen elsewhere.

Fortunately that preparation is where most of the assessed marks sit. Cambridge candidates sit either a practical examination or the alternative-to-practical paper, depending on the school's choice. Pearson candidates sit neither: 4PH1, 4CH1, 4BI1 and the Science Double Award 4SC1 assess experimental skills inside the written papers as method-design and data-analysis questions.

Both routes test the same underlying skills, and all of them are teachable on a shared screen with a real dataset. Identifying independent, dependent and controlled variables. Choosing a sensible range and interval. Justifying a number of repeats. Reading a scale to appropriate precision. Recording to consistent significant figures. Plotting with a sensible scale. Drawing a line of best fit rather than joining points. Writing an evaluation that names one specific limitation and one realistic improvement.

What cannot be taught remotely is handling the apparatus, and that belongs in the school's own laboratory under any arrangement, including one with a tutor who travels. So the honest position for a family here is that online delivery costs nothing in practical science and saves the commute, provided the student makes full use of the laboratory time the school gives them.

07

Ramadan, holidays and the shape of the year

School days shorten during Ramadan, which frees the afternoon and changes the tutoring question for a commuting household. The bus comes back earlier, so an afternoon session becomes physically possible for the first time in the year - and concentration in the late afternoon during the month is usually poor, so it is often money spent on an hour nobody benefits from.

The two slots that work are weekend mornings and after Iftar on weekdays. Because no tutor is travelling, moving to a post-Iftar slot is a scheduling decision rather than a logistical one, and it should be fixed before the month begins rather than renegotiated weekly. In most years the month also overlaps with revision for the June series, so the plan has to account for both rather than treating Ramadan as a pause.

School holidays are the other structural opportunity, and they are worth more in this district than in most. The commute disappears, the evening timetable empties, and a two-hour block becomes possible. For rebuilding a genuinely missing topic - as opposed to technique work - holiday weeks are the only time that can be done properly without displacing school work.

The practical recommendation is to plan the year in three parts: term time as one fixed evening session plus a weekend morning, holidays as concentrated topic blocks, and Ramadan as weekend mornings and post-Iftar slots with the afternoon deliberately left alone. A household that plans the year this way sustains the arrangement; one that improvises week to week usually stops by the second term.

08

Checking the tutor, and what we do not claim

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is granted free of charge for two years, and individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so disregard any amount quoted at you. Ask the person teaching your child whether they hold a current permit and ask to see it.

Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. The route is MoHRE's own service, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system, with a stated two-working-day completion time.

One arrangement to decline rather than pursue: the permit's code of conduct bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school, and in Abu Dhabi ADEK's professional-ethics rules prohibit private and charter school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school. An offer of your child's own subject teacher, privately, is a problem for the teacher before it is a benefit to you.

What we do not claim: no office, centre or branch anywhere in the UAE; no KHDA Educational Services Permit, which is issued to training institutes with premises in Dubai; no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, Cambridge or Pearson; no guaranteed grades; no star ratings we cannot evidence with countable reviews; and no supplied board papers or mark schemes - we cite and link the official sources instead.

Where we tutor

The clusters, the schools they feed, and the run

International City is a set of named clusters rather than one neighbourhood, and the route out differs between them enough to change what time a session can start.

China Cluster and Dragon Mart

The commercial centre, with the heaviest local traffic exactly when the school run happens. Buses from here are the least predictable in the district, which is why 6pm is the sensible floor rather than 5.30pm.

England Cluster

Dense residential blocks feeding mainly the Al Warqa and Al Qusais schools. Around twenty minutes on a clear morning and longer in the afternoon, so a weekday session before six rarely survives contact with reality.

France Cluster

Similar profile to England Cluster, with a large share of working households and consequently strong demand for weekend-morning slots rather than weekday evenings.

Greece, Italy and Spain Clusters

The southern blocks, closest to the Ras Al Khor road. The quickest route out towards Nad Al Hamar and the Garhoud schools, and the easiest clusters from which to reach Mirdif.

Persia and Russia Clusters

Residential and heavily bus-dependent, so bus timings rather than traffic set the earliest realistic session. Families here benefit most from a fixed slot that does not move week to week.

Morocco Cluster and Warsan Village

The lower-density edge towards the Dubai-Hatta road. Often the Silicon Oasis and Academic City schools, because the route avoids the worst of the interchange.

Al Warqa

The nearest district with substantial provision: Universal American School on IB programmes and GEMS Our Own English High School on the Indian curriculum, among others. The default destination for this district.

Al Qusais and Al Nahda

A dense older school cluster reached via Al Rashidiya, including The Millennium School Dubai, Apple International School and Dubai Scholars Private School. Common for Indian-curriculum families here.

Silicon Oasis and Academic City

On Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, with GEMS Wellington Academy and Dubai English Speaking College. Where most of this district's British-curriculum IGCSE candidates actually study.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us when the bus actually gets home

Not the end of the school day: the time your child walks through the door, on a bad day rather than a good one. That single fact decides the slot, and a slot set against the worst case is a slot that still exists in February.

  2. 02

Send the entry list and the marked mock

Subject, board, syllabus code, tier and option from the examinations officer, plus the marked script with the question-level breakdown. Those two documents remove most of the guesswork and save two sessions of exploratory questioning.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson and a written note

A real lesson on real content with the student working. Afterwards a plain summary: whether the losses are timing, technique or content, and what the available weeks should target. Say no and nothing further is owed.

  4. 04

Design the week, do not fill it

One fixed weekday evening session, one named evening for the homework it sets, a weekend morning for timed papers, and a rest day. A plan the household can sustain for two terms beats a better plan abandoned in October.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Sessions timed to the bus

From these clusters the realistic weekday start is around six, because the afternoon return with bus stops is longer than the morning run. Booking against the school bell rather than the bus costs the first ten minutes of most lessons across a two-year course.

The weekend morning treated as the important slot

A full timed paper takes two to three hours including the walkthrough and cannot be sat properly on a weekday evening after a commute. Students who do one a week from the first term of Year 11 practise the examination rather than revising for it.

Homework given a named slot

A session with no work after it delivers a fraction of its value at the full price, and work with no home in the week displaces what the school set. We agree the homework and the evening it happens in, which is unglamorous and decides the outcome.

The specification confirmed first

Students in this district change schools mid-course more often than most, which leaves genuine gaps between specifications. Cambridge 0625 and Pearson 4PH1 are not the same qualification, and we ask for the entry list before anybody teaches anything.

Practical science handled honestly

A student here cannot pop back to a Silicon Oasis laboratory after dinner. The assessed practical marks sit in variables, precision, plotting, lines of best fit and evaluation writing, all of which are taught on a screen with real data.

A year planned in three parts

Term time as one evening plus a weekend morning, holidays as concentrated topic blocks, Ramadan as weekend mornings and post-Iftar slots. Households that plan the year this way keep going; those that improvise usually stop by the second term.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in International City: your questions answered

Can I get an IGCSE home tutor in International City?+

You can get one-to-one IGCSE tutoring for a child living in International City, delivered live online rather than by a tutor coming to your flat. Home visits are a service IB Gram offers in India only. For a household in these clusters the online version has a practical advantage beyond the rate: no international school sits inside the district, so your child already spends an hour a day travelling, and an online session starts when the laptop opens rather than when a second person finishes crossing the city.

What time can tutoring realistically start from the clusters on a weekday?+

Around six. The school day may end at half past two, but the afternoon bus makes multiple stops and the Ras Al Khor and Dragon Mart junctions are slower in the afternoon, so a child travelling back from Silicon Oasis or Al Qusais often reaches home closer to four than half past three, and then needs to eat. Booking a four o'clock session against the timetable rather than the bus costs you the first ten minutes of most lessons for two years.

Which schools do children from International City usually attend?+

No international school sits inside the district, so they travel. The near group is Al Warqa and Al Qusais - GEMS Our Own English High School, Universal American School, The Millennium School Dubai, Apple International School, Dubai Scholars Private School. The middle group is Silicon Oasis and Academic City, including GEMS Wellington Academy and Dubai English Speaking College. The far group is Mirdif, Garhoud and Nad Al Sheba, chosen deliberately. Schools are named as context only; IB Gram has no affiliation with any of them.

How do we fit tutoring around nine IGCSE subjects and a commute?+

By designing the week rather than filling it. One fixed weekday evening session from six, one named evening for the homework that session sets, two evenings protected for school work only, one weekend morning for a full timed paper, and a rest day. Two weekday evening sessions rarely work here, because the second lands on a tired student who still has school work to do and routinely delivers half the value of the first at the same price.

Why does the weekend morning matter so much in this district?+

Because it is the only time a full timed paper can be sat properly. A complete paper plus the mark-scheme walkthrough takes two to three hours, and that is not available on a weekday evening after a long commute at any price. Students who sit one complete paper a week from the first term of Year 11 arrive at the June series having practised the examination itself rather than having revised for it, which is a meaningfully different kind of preparation.

My child changed schools in Year 10. What should we check?+

Two things, and this happens more often in this district than in more settled neighbourhoods. First, the specification: a change of board mid-course leaves content covered under one syllabus and never under the other, which is invisible on a report and obvious in a marked paper. Second, the tier, because tier names and ceilings differ between boards. Ask both schools for the entry details and have one timed paper marked at the new specification to find the gap.

Does the tutor need to know the exact syllabus code?+

Yes, and a provider who quotes before asking for it will teach a generic course. Cambridge Mathematics 0580 includes a non-calculator component in common variants while Pearson 4MA1 permits a calculator in both papers, so hand-arithmetic drilling is essential for one and wasted for the other. Cambridge sciences offer a practical paper or the alternative-to-practical; Pearson's 4PH1, 4CH1 and 4BI1 have no practical examination at all. Ask the examinations officer for the entry list in writing.

How can my son prepare for practical science if he cannot get back to the lab?+

Apparatus handling has to happen in the timetabled laboratory sessions, which for a student travelling to Silicon Oasis or Al Qusais means making full use of the time the school gives. Everything else - identifying variables, choosing a range and interval, justifying repeats, reading scales precisely, recording to consistent significant figures, plotting, drawing a line of best fit, writing an evaluation that names a specific limitation - is taught on a screen with a real dataset, and that is where the written practical marks sit.

What should we ask for when mock results come out?+

The marked script and the question-level breakdown, not just the grade. Read it for pattern: marks lost evenly across a paper mean timing or technique, marks lost in clusters mean a topic, and marks lost heavily in the final third mean pacing. A gap between Paper 1 and Paper 2 is a question-style problem rather than a knowledge gap. For a double-award science, check whether the losses cluster in one of the three subject areas, because that decides how many tutors you need.

Do Ramadan timings change what we should book?+

Yes, and in a way that surprises families here. The school day shortens so the bus comes back earlier, which makes an afternoon session physically possible for the first time all year - and late-afternoon concentration during the month is usually poor, so it is often an hour nobody benefits from. Weekend mornings and post-Iftar slots work. Fix the pattern before the month starts rather than renegotiating weekly, and remember that revision for the June series usually overlaps.

Are school holidays a good time to buy tutoring?+

In this district, better than term time for certain work. The commute disappears, the evening timetable empties, and a two-hour block becomes possible, which is the only realistic way to rebuild a genuinely missing topic without displacing school work. Technique work suits term time; topic rebuilding suits holidays. Agree the session count before the block starts so the total is known, and keep the final fortnight before a series free of new content.

Is Core tier enough for a UAE university later?+

For Ministry of Education equivalency, yes. The published British-track requirement is five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at a grade no less than E or grade 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic education, plus one Advanced Level subject at E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade, and Core tier reaches that comfortably. But equivalency is a floor, not an entry requirement: a sixth form asking for grade 6 in mathematics has excluded a Core candidate before the paper is sat.

When are the IGCSE papers sat, and could we get the timetable wrong?+

Cambridge runs a June series and a November series for UAE candidates; the February and March series is offered to India only. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and in November. On getting it wrong: Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and publishes a different timetable for each, stating that using the correct version is essential and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination otherwise. The zone belongs to the centre, not to your home address.

How much does IGCSE tutoring cost for a family in these clusters?+

Market figures read in October 2026 and attributed to the providers publishing them: budget and university-student online tutors from roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik from 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from 33 to 52; qualified subject tutors online at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150; in-home one-to-one with travel at AED 180 to 500. From this district that in-home premium buys a long journey against the same traffic your child just travelled.

Is a permit needed for a tutor teaching IGCSE privately in Dubai?+

Yes. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years, so it cannot legitimately be priced into a rate. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published, so treat any figure quoted at you as unverified. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents and university students.

Tell us what time the bus gets in

If your child is sitting IGCSEs and you live in International City - England, France, China, Greece, Persia or Russia Cluster, Morocco Cluster or Warsan Village - start with three facts: the time your child actually walks through the door on a bad day, the examination entry list with the syllabus codes, and the marked mock script. From those we can set a slot that survives February, say whether a tutor who teaches that specification is free, and design a week that fits the session, its homework and the school's. The trial lesson is free; lessons are one-to-one and online.
