IB Tutor near me in International City

A search for an IB tutor near me in International City runs into a hard local fact: there is no IB school in the district and very little IB teaching within a short drive of it. Diploma students here travel to Silicon Oasis, Al Warqa or Mirdif and come home late. This page works out what the proximity search actually returns, what a Diploma evening in these clusters really contains, and when a session fits. Lessons are one-to-one online.

  • Slots set against the bus, with weekend mornings for heavy work
  • Diploma core deadlines mapped before the January crush
  • Coverage limits stated at the enquiry stage, not afterwards
  • Free trial lesson with a written diagnosis, no commitment

IB & IGCSE in International City

What a proximity search returns from Al Warsan

Take the search literally. Draw a short radius around the clusters of International City and you capture Dragon Mart, Warsan Village, a stretch of the Dubai-Hatta road, the Ras Al Khor industrial strip and a very large number of apartments. What you do not capture is an IB World School, because there is not one in the district, nor a concentration of people who teach the Diploma for a living.

The nearest Diploma teaching is in Silicon Oasis, with Universal American School carrying IB programmes in Al Warqa and Uptown International School running the continuum in Mirdif. Those schools employ Diploma teachers, and those teachers are generally unavailable as private tutors to students at their own school, because the MoHRE permit's code of conduct bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school.

So the honest arithmetic: Dubai had 387,441 private school students across 227 schools in 2024-25, with the International Baccalaureate accounting for 7% of enrolment. Spread that across the Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma programmes and across the whole emirate, then narrow it to the eastern edge, then to people who teach a named Diploma subject at Higher Level, then to those willing to drive to Al Warsan at half past six. The result is not a shortlist.

Which means the word 'near' is doing the wrong job in the search. It is standing in for 'available this week', and in this district that proxy fails badly. IB Gram answers the search by taking the radius out of it: one-to-one lessons over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, with the tutor chosen for the subject and level. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE, because home visits are an India-only service for us.

The second half of the problem is the evening itself. A Diploma student from these clusters leaves early, comes back late, and arrives with Creativity, Activity, Service commitments, internal assessment deadlines and six subjects setting work. Fitting tutoring into that week is a scheduling exercise as much as an academic one, and most arrangements that fail here fail on the timetable rather than on the teaching.

There is a third element specific to online delivery that nobody in this market writes about, and it matters most in exactly this kind of district. A one-to-one video session in a busy flat succeeds or fails on setup rather than on bandwidth: a door that closes, a table rather than a lap, paper and a camera angle that lets the tutor see handwritten working. None of that costs money and all of it is routinely overlooked. So this page covers both. What the Diploma evening actually contains, term by term. The core deadlines counted backwards from the crowded January and February window. What a usable online setup needs in a shared flat, which nobody writes about and everybody discovers. And the honest limits on what we can staff, published rather than hidden.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three IB stages, and what each one does to the week of a student who travels out of the district every day.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-led with no external examinations and no marks on the report. Tutoring is most useful for the two things it does not drill: number fluency to automatic recall and structured writing. Short sessions suit this age, and short sessions suit a child who has already spent an hour on a bus.

For a family in these clusters the practical constraint at primary age is tiredness rather than timetable. A child commuting to Al Warqa or Al Qusais is genuinely spent by five, so a weekend-morning slot usually produces more than a weekday one even though the weekday one looks more convenient on paper.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups, each graded 1 to 8 against four published criteria marked out of eight. The efficient tutoring targets the single weak criterion rather than the subject, which is why the criterion breakdown from the school matters more than the report itself.

The Middle Years evening is lighter than the Diploma evening, which makes this the stage where a weekday session fits comfortably. It is also when the Personal Project arrives in MYP 5 and collides with everything else, and a commuting student has less slack to absorb that than a student who lives near their school.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Three Higher Level and three Standard Level subjects, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service, scored out of 45 with up to three points from the core. Every subject carries an internally marked, externally moderated assessment with its own school deadline.

This is where the commute bites. A Diploma student travelling from International City to Silicon Oasis loses roughly ten hours a week to the journey, and those hours have to come out of the same week that contains six subjects, the core and service commitments. Tutoring has to be planned around that rather than added on top of it.

COREAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

The Diploma core: TOK, Extended Essay and CAS

Theory of Knowledge runs as an exhibition in the first year and a 1,600-word essay in the second. The Extended Essay is a 4,000-word supervised independent piece. Together they carry up to three points. Creativity, Activity, Service is not graded but must be completed, and it occupies real evenings.

For a commuting student the core is where time disappears invisibly, because none of it has a weekly lesson to anchor it. Service activities are frequently arranged around the school rather than the home, which for a family in Al Warsan means another journey. Mapping the core deadlines in the first Diploma year is the single most useful planning act available.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The Diploma subjects students from these clusters most often need help with, described by what the assessment actually demands.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Algebra, functions, calculus and proof, with induction, complex numbers and vectors at Higher Level. Most lost marks are method: working omitted, rounding applied early, analytic methods replaced by calculator work where the question required otherwise.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling, statistics and technology use, with matrices and graph theory at Higher Level. The characteristic failure is interpretive rather than computational - a correct regression line followed by no statement of what the gradient means in context.

Physics

HL and SL

Uncertainty propagation and graph linearisation carry a large share of recoverable marks and are rarely taught as lessons in their own right. Explanations written in everyday language rather than with defined quantities account for most of the rest.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Mole calculations underpin every theme, so weakness there costs marks across the whole paper. Organic mechanism marks are lost on conventions - arrow origin, lone pairs, charges - rather than on understanding the chemistry.

Biology

HL and SL

Volume rather than conceptual difficulty, with command terms deciding the grade. Data-based questions reward reading the axes and error bars before writing, which is a habit that can be established in two or three sessions.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagrams must be titled, labelled and referenced in the prose to score, and Higher Level adds a calculation-heavy paper. The internal assessment is three 800-word commentaries on recent news articles, with the marks concentrated in the evaluation.

Business Management

HL and SL

Applied analysis of stimulus material, where higher bands require a justified judgement rather than a balanced list. Higher Level candidates sit an additional paper based on pre-released stimulus issued ahead of the session.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Unseen non-literary analysis, a comparative essay, the Individual Oral on a global issue and, at Higher Level, an essay of 1,200 to 1,500 words. The Individual Oral usually fails on a global issue pitched far too broadly for the texts chosen.

Psychology

HL and SL

Studies used as evidence for an argument rather than recited. Marks sit in the critical-thinking strands: methodological limitations, cultural and gender considerations, and alternative explanations, all of which are teachable as writing habits.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

The exhibition in the first year and the 1,600-word essay in the second, scored with the Extended Essay for up to three points. The exhibition fails when objects illustrate the prompt rather than evidencing a claim about knowledge.

Extended Essay

Core, 4,000 words

Assessed on focus and method, knowledge and understanding, critical thinking, presentation and engagement. Most failures are early and structural: a question too broad for the word count or no stated method. Four to six sessions at the question stage prevents most of them.

Internal assessment coaching across the sciences

HL and SL

Research design, variable control, uncertainty propagation and the evaluation section, worked on the student's own data. Worth roughly a fifth of each science grade. The student designs, measures and writes; the tutor questions and gives feedback.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three arrangements built around a long commute, plus a straight answer on in-home tuition from this district.

One fixed weekday session, timed to the bus

A single 60-minute session in the same slot every week, set against the worst-case return journey rather than the average one. For a Diploma student the content follows the school's scheme of work and the student's own marked papers, so the hour consolidates rather than duplicating.

  • Slot fixed against a bad day, not a good one
  • Same tutor weekly so nothing is re-diagnosed
  • Agreed work between sessions, with a named evening for it
  • No travel at either end, which is what makes a 6.30pm start viable

Weekend morning for papers and the core

The slot that makes the demanding work possible. A full timed paper plus the mark-scheme walkthrough takes two to three hours and cannot be done after a long commute. The same slot suits Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge work, which needs a clear head rather than a spare twenty minutes.

  • Full papers sat under genuine timed conditions
  • Core drafting and questioning when the student is fresh
  • Error log updated and checked for recurrence
  • Usually one weekend morning a week in the second Diploma year

Finite core coaching blocks

Four to eight sessions for an internal assessment, the Extended Essay or the Theory of Knowledge essay, scheduled backwards from the school's deadline. The session count is agreed at the start, so the total is known. The tutor questions the question, explains the criteria and comments on the student's own drafts; the student writes every word.

  • Scheduled from the school's internal deadline backwards
  • Framed on the published assessment criteria
  • Feedback on the student's own drafts, never supplied text
  • Ends when the deadline passes

In-home tutoring from this district, honestly

Dubai has tutors who travel, at published in-home one-to-one rates of roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel, per Bestimate's 2026 table and advertised home-tutor rates. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; that service exists only in India. From these clusters a travelling tutor arrives at the end of the worst traffic of the day.

  • No IB Gram tutor travels to an address in Dubai or anywhere in the UAE
  • The in-home premium is roughly AED 50-150 an hour of travel
  • A tutor arriving late at 6.30pm costs a quarter of the lesson
  • The travelling pool of Diploma specialists near Al Warsan is effectively empty

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in International City

01

What a Diploma evening in these clusters actually contains

Parents underestimate this and students rarely explain it. A Diploma student travelling from International City to Silicon Oasis or Mirdif spends something like two hours a day in transit, which is ten hours a week gone before any homework begins. On top of that sit six subjects setting work, Creativity, Activity, Service commitments that often meet near the school rather than near the home, and internal assessment deadlines that arrive without a weekly lesson to anchor them.

The consequence is that adding a tutoring session without removing something produces a student who attends the session and stops doing the school's work. That is a net loss at full price. The sessions that produce results are the ones with agreed work between them, which means the week has to have room for both the hour and its homework.

The load also shifts across the two years in a predictable way. The first Diploma year is relatively open until the internal assessments begin in the second half. The second year's first term is the heaviest stretch in the whole programme, with assessments, the Extended Essay and mock preparation overlapping. The final term is intense but narrower, because by then the work is timed practice rather than production.

The table below sets out that load term by term with the tutoring shape that fits each. The pattern it produces is modest by design: in this district an ambitious schedule that collapses in week three is the commonest failure, and a plan the household can sustain for two terms beats a better plan abandoned in October.

DP2, second termMocks, final submissions, TOK essayVery lowWeekend morning plus one weekday if a subject is failing

02

The core deadlines, mapped before they collide

The Diploma core - Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service - carries up to three points and no weekly lesson. That combination is why it is the part of the Diploma that most often goes wrong, and a commuting student has less slack to absorb a late start than one who lives beside their school.

The pressure point is not May. It is the January and February window of the second year, when internal assessments across four or five subjects, the Extended Essay final submission, the Theory of Knowledge essay and the school's mock examinations all land within a few weeks. A student with no Extended Essay progress by the October of the second year is not behind on one piece of work; they are about to be behind on everything, because the hours have to come from somewhere.

So the planning act worth doing in the first Diploma year is simple and nobody does it: ask the Diploma coordinator for every internal deadline for both years, in writing, and put them on one page. Not the examination dates - the school's own deadlines, which are the ones that actually govern the student's life. From that one page the whole tutoring plan follows.

We publish no specific IB session or results dates on this site. The IB's own site blocks automated checking, and a wrong date on a page a family plans around is worse than no date, so confirm every IB date with the coordinator or on ibo.org. For Cambridge and Pearson qualifications the dates are sourced: Cambridge runs June and November series for UAE candidates, with the February and March series offered to India only, and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and in November.

03

Why the nearest tutor is rarely the right one here

The structural reason is that International City was not built around schools. It is a dense residential and commercial district, its children travel out in every direction, and the adults who teach the Diploma in Dubai live close to the schools that employ them. So a proximity search returns people who are available rather than people who teach your child's subject at your child's level.

There is a second reason that catches families by surprise. Diploma teachers at the schools this district feeds are generally not available to their own students privately: the MoHRE permit carries a code of conduct barring service to students affiliated with the tutor's own school, and in Abu Dhabi ADEK's professional-ethics rules prohibit private and charter school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school. 'Your child's own teacher, privately' is an offer to decline.

What follows is not that distance is irrelevant but that it is the wrong thing to optimise. The variables that decide a Diploma outcome are whether the tutor teaches that subject at that level, whether they can coach an internal assessment through its criteria without writing it, and whether the session actually happens every week. Distance affects only the third, and online delivery solves that one outright.

A fair caveat: online is not automatically better, it is better for this problem. A student who will not engage with a screen, or who has nowhere quiet to work, has a real obstacle that honest advice should acknowledge rather than dismiss. The next section is about exactly that, because in a shared flat it is the practical question nobody writes about.

04

What a usable online setup needs in a shared flat

This is the part of online tutoring that providers skip and families discover. A one-to-one video session works well when the student can see the tutor's working and the tutor can see the student's, and badly when the student is on a phone in a room with a television on. The difference is not the internet connection, which in these clusters is generally fine. It is the arrangement of the hour.

The three things that matter most are a door, a surface and a second screen or a camera angle. A door because an hour of concentration needs an hour of quiet, which in a family flat usually means a bedroom rather than a living room. A surface because mathematics and science require writing by hand, and a laptop balanced on a lap cannot support that. And a way for the tutor to see the handwritten working, which is usually a phone propped to point at the page.

The rest is marginal. Headphones help more than people expect, because they cut the room out and make the session feel like a conversation rather than a broadcast. A notebook kept specifically for tutoring, with the error log in the front, means the previous week's work is findable in ten seconds. Charging the device before rather than during the session removes a recurring five-minute interruption.

The table below sets out what makes a session work and what quietly degrades it. None of this costs money, which is why it is worth saying: the gap between a good online session and a mediocre one in a busy household is almost entirely about setup rather than about equipment or bandwidth.

ONLINE SESSION SETUP: WHAT HELPS AND WHAT DEGRADES IT
ElementWhat worksWhat degrades the sessionWhy it matters
RoomA bedroom or study with a door that closesA living room with other people in itAn hour of concentration needs an hour of quiet
DeviceA laptop or tablet on a tableA phone held in the handThe tutor must see working as it is written

05

Subject and level choices for a student who commutes

Three Higher Level subjects is the standard Diploma load and the combination matters more for a commuting student than for one who lives near school, because the recoverable hours in the week are fewer. Two heavily quantitative Higher Level subjects plus a third with a demanding written component produces a second-year January that effort alone cannot solve, and the commute is an hour a day of that effort already spent.

The honest advice when choices are still open is to map the assessment load across both years rather than looking only at interest. Which subjects have internal assessments requiring laboratory access, which require data collection outside school hours, and which can be completed with reading and writing alone. For a student who cannot easily return to a Silicon Oasis laboratory after dinner, that distinction has real consequences.

The other question is university prerequisites, and it should be settled in the first Diploma year. Some courses specify Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches, some specify it at Higher Level, and some sciences are required at Higher Level for medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and engineering. Read the published requirements for the specific institutions and courses, including the UAE universities, because dropping from Higher to Standard Level is usually possible and moving up usually is not.

None of this is advice to choose an easier Diploma. It is advice to choose a Diploma whose assessment deadlines can actually be met from this address, which is a different question and one that nobody asks at the options evening. A student who is well matched to their subjects and has time to do the work beats a student carrying a prestigious combination they cannot service.

06

Internal assessments when the laboratory is a bus ride away

Every Diploma science carries a scientific investigation worth roughly a fifth of the subject grade, assessed against research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation - four criteria of six marks each, twenty-four in total. For a student living in International City and studying in Silicon Oasis, the binding constraint is not the analysis but access to the apparatus.

That makes feasibility the first question rather than a later one. Can the investigation be completed within the laboratory sessions the school timetables, with the equipment the school has, at the precision the research question needs? A design that requires an extra afternoon of readings is a design that will not be finished, because the extra afternoon means another journey the household cannot easily make.

The work around the apparatus is where the marks mostly sit, and all of it is possible from home: framing a research question, identifying and controlling variables, choosing a range and interval, propagating uncertainty, linearising and plotting, calculating gradient uncertainty, and writing an evaluation that names the dominant error source and proposes one specific change. A tutor is useful for every item on that list.

The boundary is firm and worth stating because the search results this page sits in include an operator selling completed assessments at a published price. The student chooses the question, designs the method, takes the measurements, processes the data and writes the report. The tutor tests feasibility, explains the criteria, questions the design and comments on drafts. A malpractice finding falls on the candidate, not on the seller.

07

Coverage, availability and what we will not claim

No competitor page in this market publishes what it cannot staff, and several conceal non-local delivery behind a phone number. We publish it, because a family that discovers a mismatch in week three has paid specialist rates for a generalist. Mathematics in both courses, the sciences at Standard Level, Economics, Business Management and English are generally available within days.

Physics and Chemistry at Higher Level take longer, particularly in the fortnight either side of mock examinations, when demand across the emirate concentrates on the same people. Less commonly taught Group 2 languages take two weeks or more. Further Mathematics, Music and Film we often cannot staff at all, and in that case we say no rather than substituting somebody adjacent and hoping.

On rates, every figure we publish is attributed and dated. Read in October 2026: qualified subject tutors online at AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200; IB specialists at AED 200 to 450 or more, with TutorChase at AED 270; premium named tutors at AED 500 to 650, with BartyED at AED 650; in-home one-to-one with travel at AED 180 to 500. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly hour run AED 240 to 600 budget, AED 600 to 1,200 mid and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist examination-year support.

And what we do not claim: no office, centre or branch anywhere in the UAE; no KHDA Educational Services Permit, which is issued to training institutes with premises in Dubai; no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson; no guaranteed grades or published predicted scores; and no star ratings we cannot evidence with countable, dated reviews.

08

The permit question, and how a parent checks it

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated, and this is the clearest question on the page. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, so no tutor can legitimately price it into a rate, and individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so disregard any amount quoted at you.

Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. The application route is MoHRE's own service, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system, with a stated two-working-day completion time.

How you check it: ask directly whether the individual teaching your child holds a current permit, and ask to see it. Somebody who holds one shows it without hesitation. A provider who treats the question as an insult has told you something useful. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different legal entity and needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, which has its own process and renewal timetable.

For completeness on the regulators: KHDA oversees private education quality in Dubai, ADEK supervises licensing and accreditation of private schools in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, the Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah has its Department of Knowledge, and the federal Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. All of them regulate schools; none licenses individual tutors.

Where we tutor

The clusters and the Diploma schools beyond them

What matters for an IB family in this district is which clusters make which school runs bearable, because none of the schools is local.

China Cluster and Dragon Mart

The commercial centre, with the district's heaviest traffic at exactly school-run times. Diploma students here are usually travelling to Silicon Oasis, and 6.30pm is a more honest session start than 6pm.

England and France Clusters

Dense residential blocks with many working households, which makes a fixed weekday slot and a weekend morning the sustainable pattern rather than flexible scheduling week to week.

Greece, Italy and Spain Clusters

The southern blocks nearest the Ras Al Khor road, which gives the quickest route towards Nad Al Hamar, Garhoud and Mirdif. The easiest clusters from which to reach Uptown International School.

Persia and Russia Clusters

Heavily bus-dependent, so bus routes rather than traffic set the earliest realistic session. A fixed slot matters more here than anywhere else in the district.

Morocco Cluster and Warsan Village

The lower-density edge towards the Dubai-Hatta road, from which Silicon Oasis and Academic City are reached while avoiding the worst of the interchange.

Dubai Silicon Oasis

The nearest Diploma provision to the district, at GEMS Wellington Academy. Twenty-five to thirty minutes on a clear morning and considerably longer by bus in the afternoon.

Al Warqa

Universal American School carries IB programmes here, making it the shortest IB run available from these clusters at around twenty minutes on a normal morning.

Mirdif

Uptown International School runs the full IB continuum. A longer commitment, chosen by families who want programme continuity from the Primary Years through to the Diploma in one school.

Al Garhoud and Nad Al Sheba

Deira International School and GEMS Modern Academy among others, reached across Ras Al Khor Road. Longer runs chosen for a specific school rather than for convenience.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the subject, the level and the commute

Which school, which subject at which level, what the last marked work said, and what time your child walks through the door on a bad day. The fourth fact is the one other providers never ask for and the one that decides whether the arrangement survives February.

  2. 02

We check coverage and say what we find

If your combination is one of the hard ones - Higher Level physics or chemistry near the mock window, a less common language - you hear that now, with a realistic wait, rather than after two paid sessions with a generalist.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson, then a written diagnosis

A real lesson on real content with the student working. Afterwards a plain written note: what the tutor found, which subject actually needs the money, and what eight weeks would target. Say no and nothing further is owed.

  4. 04

Get the core deadlines on one page

Ask the Diploma coordinator for every internal deadline across both years, in writing. Not the examination dates - the school's own deadlines, which are what actually governs the student's life. The whole plan follows from that single sheet.

  5. 05

Set the slot, the homework and the rest day

One fixed weekday session timed to the bus, one named evening for the work it sets, a weekend morning for papers and core drafting, and a day with nothing academic in it. Schedules without a rest day are abandoned by October.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

We take the radius out of the search

There is no IB World School in International City and almost no Diploma teaching within a short drive. A proximity search returns availability rather than expertise, and online matching replaces it with whether the tutor teaches that subject at that level.

The commute is treated as part of the plan

A Diploma student travelling to Silicon Oasis loses around ten hours a week to the journey. Tutoring that ignores this displaces the school's own homework, which is a net loss at full price. We plan the week rather than adding to it.

The core mapped before January

Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and service commitments carry up to three points and no weekly lesson, which is why they slip. One page of the school's own internal deadlines, obtained in the first year, prevents most of the damage.

Setup advice nobody else gives

A door that closes, a table, paper and a camera pointed at the page, headphones, and one notebook with the error log in the front. None of it costs money and it is most of the difference between a good online session and a mediocre one.

Feasibility first on science assessments

A student who cannot return to a Silicon Oasis laboratory after dinner must design an investigation completable in timetabled sessions. Checking that before data collection is the difference between a finished assessment and a wasted fortnight.

Coverage limits and rates both published

Higher Level physics and chemistry near the mock window are the hardest things we staff, and you hear so at the enquiry stage. Every AED figure names the provider who published it and the month it was read.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in International City: your questions answered

Is there an IB tutor near me in International City?+

There is one-to-one IB tutoring available for a student living in International City, delivered live online rather than by a tutor coming to your flat. The reason to prefer that here is structural: there is no IB World School inside the district and almost no Diploma teaching within a short drive, so a proximity search returns people who are free rather than people who teach your child's subject at their level. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE.

Why is there so little IB teaching near these clusters?+

Because the district was not built around schools. International City is dense residential and commercial, its children travel out in every direction, and the adults who teach the Diploma in Dubai generally live near the schools that employ them. The nearest Diploma provision is GEMS Wellington Academy in Silicon Oasis, with Universal American School in Al Warqa and Uptown International School in Mirdif beyond. Those schools' own teachers are also barred from tutoring their own students privately under the permit's code of conduct.

How much of the week does the commute actually take?+

For a Diploma student travelling from these clusters to Silicon Oasis or Mirdif, something like two hours a day, which is ten hours a week gone before homework starts. That matters because tutoring added on top of a full week does not create time; it displaces the work the school already set. The arrangement that works here is one fixed weekday session with a named evening for its homework, plus a weekend morning, and a protected rest day.

When should a Diploma session start on a weekday from Al Warsan?+

Around six, and from the China Cluster or on a bus route, 6.30pm is more honest. The school day may end at half past two, but the afternoon return makes multiple stops and the Dragon Mart and Ras Al Khor junctions are slower then, so a student travelling from Silicon Oasis often reaches home well after four and then needs to eat. Setting the slot against a bad day rather than an average one is what keeps it in the diary in February.

Which part of the Diploma causes the most trouble for students here?+

The core, because it carries up to three points and has no weekly lesson to anchor it. Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and service commitments all slip, and a commuting student has less slack to absorb a late start. The collision point is the January and February window of the second year, when internal assessments, the Extended Essay submission, the Theory of Knowledge essay and the mocks all land within a few weeks of each other.

What should I ask the Diploma coordinator for?+

Every internal deadline for both Diploma years, in writing, on one page. Not the examination dates - the school's own deadlines for internal assessments, the Extended Essay drafts, the Theory of Knowledge exhibition and essay, and the mock timetable. Those are what actually govern your child's life, they vary between schools in this part of Dubai by weeks, and the entire tutoring plan follows from that single sheet. Almost no family asks for it in the first year.

My daughter has nowhere quiet to work. Will online sessions still work?+

It is the right question and it deserves a practical answer rather than reassurance. What matters is a door that closes, a table rather than a lap, paper and a pen with a phone propped to show the tutor the handwritten working, and headphones. Headphones help more than people expect, because they cut the room out. None of that costs money, and it is most of the difference between a good online session and a mediocre one in a busy flat.

Can my son do his science investigation if he cannot get back to the lab?+

Only if the design is feasible within the laboratory sessions the school timetables, which is why feasibility is the first conversation rather than a later one. A design needing an extra afternoon of readings is a design that will not be finished from this district. Everything around the apparatus - research question, variable control, uncertainty propagation, linearising, gradient uncertainty, and an evaluation naming the dominant error source - can be done from home, and that is where most of the twenty-four marks sit.

Should the commute affect which Higher Level subjects he takes?+

It should be part of the conversation, which it almost never is. Two heavily quantitative Higher Level subjects plus a third with a demanding written component produces a second-year January that effort alone cannot solve, and an hour a day of that effort is already spent travelling. Map which subjects have assessments needing laboratory access or out-of-hours data collection. Then check university prerequisites, because dropping from Higher to Standard Level is usually possible later and moving up usually is not.

Can we book just a block of sessions for the Extended Essay?+

Yes, and for the core it is usually the right shape. Four to eight sessions timed backwards from the school's internal deadline, with the session count agreed at the start so the total is known. The tutor interrogates the research question, explains what the assessment criteria reward, and comments on your child's own drafts. The student writes every word. What to refuse is anybody offering to produce it, because the malpractice finding falls on the candidate.

How quickly can a Diploma tutor be matched for a student here?+

For mathematics in either course, the sciences at Standard Level, Economics, Business Management and English, usually within days. Physics and Chemistry at Higher Level take longer, particularly in the fortnight either side of mock examinations when demand across the emirate concentrates on the same specialists. Less common Group 2 languages take two weeks or more, and Further Mathematics, Music and Film we often cannot staff at all - in which case we say so rather than substituting.

Is a tutor working in Dubai required to be licensed?+

Private tutoring is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and those offering private tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so disregard any figure quoted at you. Ask the person teaching your child whether they hold a current permit and ask to see it; somebody who holds one shows it without hesitation.

Does IB Gram have a centre we could visit in Dubai?+

No. There is no IB Gram office, centre or branch anywhere in the UAE, and no page of ours should suggest one. We also hold no KHDA Educational Services Permit, because that permit is issued to training institutes with premises and staff in Dubai, which we do not have. We are not approved, accredited, licensed or partnered by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and we publish no ratings we cannot evidence.

What does Diploma tutoring cost for a family in these clusters?+

Market figures read in October 2026 and attributed to the providers publishing them: qualified subject tutors online at AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200; IB specialists at AED 200 to 450 or more, with TutorChase at AED 270; in-home one-to-one with travel at AED 180 to 500. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly hour run AED 600 to 1,200 mid-range and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist examination-year support.

How do we know the tutoring is working if we cannot sit in?+

By insisting the measurement comes from the school's marking rather than the tutor's impression. The baseline is the student's existing marked work plus, where the subject allows, timed past papers marked against the published mark scheme, which produces a list of specific recurring errors. The student keeps an error log of every mark lost and why. Every few weeks you get a short written note on what has moved. We publish no predicted grades and promise no improvement.

Replace the radius with four facts

If your child is on an IB programme and you live in International City, the question that finds a good tutor is not how close they are. It is which subject at which level, which school, what the last marked work said, and what time your child actually gets home on a bad day. Send those four and we will tell you honestly whether a specialist in that combination is free, how long a match would take, and whether a weekend morning would serve you better than a weekday evening. The trial lesson is free; lessons are one-to-one and online, on Gulf Standard Time.
