IB Chemistry Tutor in International City

Hiring an IB chemistry tutor in International City is usually a decision about money as well as marks: how much a month, for how long, and for which of the three sciences. Chemistry has an unusually clear answer, because a small number of specific purchases do most of the work and the rest is expensive habit. This page ranks them in AED and names what each band actually contains. Lessons are one-to-one online.

  • Chemistry purchases ranked by value rather than by hour
  • Market rates published in AED and attributed to their source
  • No travel premium, because no tutor is driving to Al Warsan

Which chemistry purchases are actually worth the money

Chemistry is the Diploma science where spending is easiest to get wrong, because the subject looks like a wall of content and families buy accordingly - an open weekly arrangement for two years, in the hope that enough hours will eventually cover it. That is the most expensive possible approach and rarely the most effective one, because chemistry marks are not distributed evenly across the content.

Three purchases do most of the work. A stoichiometry block, because mole calculations sit inside questions in every theme and a hesitation there costs marks in energetics, equilibrium, acids and bases, redox and the investigation simultaneously. A mechanism block, because organic marks are lost on conventions rather than on understanding and the conventions are learnable in a month. And a feasibility session before the investigation, because a design the school's laboratory cannot execute is a fortnight lost.

Those three together are perhaps fourteen to eighteen sessions across two years. At the qualified online band of AED 150 to 300 an hour - with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200 - that is a defined and modest total, and it addresses the specific places where chemistry marks actually disappear. Compare it with an open weekly arrangement at the same rate for two years, which is several times the cost for work nobody can evaluate afterwards.

The figures matter in this district because International City households tend to be watching a monthly number, and because three of the six leading pages in this market publish no price at all while two quote United States dollars. Every AED figure on this page names the provider who published it and the month it was read, which is October 2026. None of them is an IB Gram rate; ours is quoted after the free trial lesson.

There is also a travel line to remove. Published in-home one-to-one rates in Dubai run roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel, against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified tutor online, so the premium is roughly AED 50 to 150 an hour. From these clusters, off the main school corridors with no international school inside the district, that premium buys a long journey rather than better chemistry.

One further cost worth naming, because families in this district raise it more than families elsewhere: the cost of starting late. The hourly figure does not rise in February, but the specialists are committed by then, so the same money buys a less suitable tutor. Committing in the first Diploma term is the only discount genuinely available in this market, and it is a large one.

IB Gram delivers chemistry tuition online, one-to-one, on Gulf Standard Time. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE, because home visits are an India-only service for us. What follows ranks the purchases, sets out what each rate band contains for this specific subject, and names the four places chemistry budgets get wasted.

At a glance

  • Mole calculations sit inside questions in every theme; weakness there costs marks across the whole paper
  • Organic mechanism marks are lost on conventions, which are learnable in about a month
  • A feasibility session before the investigation prevents the commonest chemistry failure
  • Market rates: qualified subject tutors online AED 150-300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200
  • In-home one-to-one with travel runs AED 180-500, a premium of roughly AED 50-150 an hour
  • Lessons are one-to-one and online; no tutor travels to a UAE address

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

MYP sciences before chemistry begins

Graded 1 to 8 against knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. The gap that matters for chemistry is quantitative: the Middle Years Programme rarely demands the arithmetic fluency mole calculations require.

The cheapest chemistry intervention available to a family in these clusters happens before chemistry starts: a short block in MYP 5 on ratio, proportion and unit conversion, at the lower market band. It costs a fraction of a Diploma-year block and removes the problem that otherwise dominates the first Diploma term.

SLAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Chemistry, Standard Level

The full set of themes at standard depth with written papers and the scientific investigation. Often taken as a third science or as a prerequisite, and the presenting problem is usually stoichiometry rather than concepts: the chemistry is understood and the arithmetic expressing it is not.

Standard Level chemistry requests from this district frequently need six sessions on moles rather than a year of general support. That is a considerably cheaper purchase and we would rather say so, because an open arrangement built on the wrong diagnosis costs several thousand dirhams more and achieves less.

HLAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Chemistry, Higher Level

Additional content across every theme, with substantially more organic synthesis, quantitative equilibrium and acid-base work, and spectroscopic structure determination. The standard requirement for medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and chemical engineering, which makes it one of the highest-stakes subjects in the Diploma.

Higher Level chemistry is where the market's budget band stops containing usable help, and where paying a specialist rate is genuinely justified. It is also where availability is worst around mock examinations, so the money buys more when it is committed in the first term than in February at the same hourly figure.

IAAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

The chemistry scientific investigation

An independent investigation worth twenty-four marks across four criteria of six each: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. In chemistry it usually takes the form of a rates study, a titration, an energetics measurement or an electrochemistry investigation.

This is the single best-value coaching block in the subject, and the reason is logistical. For a student travelling out of these clusters there is no extra afternoon in the laboratory, so a design that cannot be executed in timetabled sessions is a fortnight lost. Half an hour of feasibility checking protects the whole block.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Each area below is described by what it costs to fix as well as what it demands, because in chemistry those vary enormously between topics.

Mole calculations and stoichiometry

SL and HL

Mass to moles, concentration, gas volumes, limiting reagent, percentage yield. Six to eight sessions of short calculation sets usually makes these automatic, and because they appear inside questions in every theme it is the highest return per dirham in the subject.

Organic chemistry and mechanisms

SL and HL

Functional groups, reaction types and, at Higher Level, nucleophilic substitution and electrophilic addition with curly arrows. Marks are lost on conventions - arrow origin, lone pairs, charges - and fifteen minutes a session for a month fixes it permanently.

Energetics and thermochemistry

SL and HL

Enthalpy changes, Hess cycles, bond enthalpies and, at Higher Level, entropy and free energy. Sign conventions account for most of the loss, followed by mixing bond and formation enthalpies in one calculation. Two or three sessions.

Equilibrium

SL and HL

Dynamic equilibrium, Le Chatelier reasoning and, at Higher Level, equilibrium constant calculations. Students apply Le Chatelier correctly and then fail to state what happens to the value of the constant, which is a separate and frequently examined point.

Acids, bases and pH

SL and HL

Strong and weak acids, pH and pKa calculations, buffers and titration curves at Higher Level. Logarithmic arithmetic is where the marks go, along with treating a weak acid as fully dissociated partway through a calculation.

Redox and electrochemistry

SL and HL

Oxidation states, half-equations, electrolysis and, at Higher Level, cell potentials. Half-equation balancing in acidic and basic conditions is mechanical, reliably mishandled under time pressure, and cheap to fix with drilling.

Bonding, structure and periodicity

SL and HL

Ionic, covalent and metallic bonding, intermolecular forces, molecular shapes and, at Higher Level, hybridisation. The recurring error is explaining a property by naming a bond type without saying which forces break and why that costs energy.

Spectroscopic structure determination

HL

Deducing a structure from mass, infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance data. A procedure rather than a body of knowledge: molecular formula, then functional groups, then connectivity. Settles in a handful of worked examples, which makes it inexpensive.

Rates of reaction

SL and HL

Collision theory, rate expressions and, at Higher Level, rate-determining steps and activation energy from graphical data. A common investigation topic in this district, where the design usually fails on timing precision rather than on chemistry.

Uncertainty in chemical measurement

SL and HL

Glassware tolerances, propagation through a concentration calculation and uncertainty in a gradient for rates work. Examined in data-analysis questions and central to the investigation's evaluation criterion, and almost never taught as its own lesson.

Investigation design and feasibility

SL and HL

Choosing between rates, titration, energetics and electrochemistry designs with an eye on the apparatus the school actually has and the timetabled sessions available. The cheapest half hour in the whole arrangement for a commuting student.

Command terms and explanation structure

SL and HL

State, outline, describe, explain, deduce and determine each specify a different answer with a different mark allocation. Students answer nearly all as describe. A fortnight of deliberate practice moves marks across every paper for almost no cost.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three purchases with defined ends, plus an honest account of the in-home option and what its premium pays for.

The stoichiometry block

Six to eight sessions of short calculation sets - mass to moles, concentration, limiting reagent, gas volumes, percentage yield - run alongside whatever the class is covering until the conversions happen without thought. It is the least interesting thing a chemistry tutor does and the highest return per dirham in the subject, because the calculations appear inside questions in every theme.

  • Defined session count, so the total cost is known in advance
  • Short sets at the start of each session rather than a standalone course
  • Diagnosed from one three-step mole problem in the trial lesson
  • Pays back across energetics, equilibrium, acids and bases, redox and the investigation

The mechanism and organic block

A focused run on the organic content and the conventions mark schemes credit individually: arrow origin, lone pairs, formal and partial charges, intermediates, and stereochemistry where it applies. Fifteen minutes of drawing practice a session for a month converts a recurring loss into reliable full marks.

  • Conventions taught as marking criteria, not as drawing style
  • Nucleophilic substitution and electrophilic addition drawn repeatedly
  • Synthesis route planning at Higher Level
  • Spectroscopy attacked in a fixed order: formula, groups, connectivity

The investigation feasibility and coaching block

Four to six sessions timed to the school's deadline, starting with half an hour on whether the design can be executed with the apparatus the school has in the timetabled sessions available. For a student who cannot return to a Silicon Oasis laboratory after dinner, that half hour is the most valuable money in the arrangement.

  • Apparatus, glassware tolerances and session count checked first
  • Four criteria explained with their six-mark allocations
  • Uncertainty taught on the student's own measurements
  • Feedback on drafts; no supplied text, data or analysis

In-home chemistry tutoring, and what the premium buys

Published in-home one-to-one rates in Dubai run roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel, per Bestimate at 180 to 350 and advertised home-tutor rates at 200 to 500, with monthly packages of AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour sessions. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; that service exists only in India.

  • No IB Gram tutor travels to an address in Dubai or anywhere in the UAE
  • Roughly AED 50-150 an hour of the in-home rate is travel
  • A travelling tutor cannot get your child into a laboratory either
  • The same money online buys more sessions or a Higher Level specialist

Chemistry purchases ranked by what they return

If a household has a fixed monthly figure, the order in which it is spent matters more than the hourly rate. Chemistry is unusually amenable to this kind of ranking, because the subject has one skill that appears everywhere, one convention set that is worth reliable marks, and one logistical trap that costs a fortnight. Everything else is ordinary content teaching with ordinary returns.

The ranking in the table below is based on marks recovered per session rather than on importance in the abstract. Stoichiometry comes first because it is load-bearing: a student who hesitates on a mole calculation loses marks in energetics, equilibrium, acid-base work, redox and the investigation at the same time, so six sessions there improve five parts of the paper at once.

Mechanism conventions come second because the loss is purely mechanical and the fix is permanent. A student who draws curly arrows from the wrong origin loses the arrow mark on every mechanism question for two years until somebody shows them otherwise, and nobody usually does. Fifteen minutes a session for a month is the entire intervention.

The feasibility session comes third not because it teaches much but because of what it prevents. From these clusters a chemistry investigation designed around apparatus the school does not have, or around a precision its glassware cannot deliver, cannot be rescued with a second visit. The half hour costs a fraction of a session and protects the whole twenty-four-mark task.

What each AED band actually contains for chemistry

Rates in this market are published by some providers and withheld by others, so the useful exercise is matching a band to a job rather than looking for the cheapest hour. Every figure below was published by the provider named and read in October 2026, and none of them is an IB Gram rate - ours is quoted after the free trial lesson against the work the diagnosis identifies.

Budget and university-student online tutors advertise from roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. For Middle Years science content and for drilling mole calculations once somebody has taught the method, that band is genuinely usable. What it rarely contains is a tutor who can coach Higher Level organic mechanisms or a quantitative equilibrium calculation.

Qualified subject tutors online sit at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200 and IGCSE from AED 150. This is where most useful Diploma chemistry tutoring in Dubai happens. Specialists run AED 200 to 450 or more, with TutorChase at AED 270, and premium named tutors reach AED 500 to 650, with BartyED at AED 650 - a band that is defensible for Higher Level in a decisive subject and hard to justify for Standard Level content revision.

Monthly, Bestimate's estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-range and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist examination-year support, with published online packages at AED 799 a month for eight sessions. For household context, KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that Dubai private school fees would not increase for the 2026-27 academic year.

The four ways chemistry budgets get wasted

These four patterns account for most of the chemistry spending families in this district later regret. None involves dishonesty. All are diagnosis failures, and all are avoidable with a question asked before the first session rather than after the tenth.

The first is tutoring three sciences when one is the problem. A disappointing science profile usually has a single subject carrying it, and in this cluster chemistry is the most common culprit, generally because of stoichiometry. One timed paper in each of the three identifies which within a session. Families who skip that step routinely pay three times what they needed to.

The second is buying content teaching when the loss is habit. A student who understands equilibrium and loses marks for not stating what happens to the constant does not need equilibrium re-taught. The third is starting in February, when demand across the emirate peaks and the specialists are committed - the rate is identical and what you can buy with it is not.

The fourth is sessions with no practice between them. Chemistry calculations and mechanism conventions change through repetition, so an hour of explanation followed by nothing delivers perhaps a third of its value at full price. Agreed short practice on two or three evenings is free and roughly triples the return on everything else. The common thread across all four is that each is a diagnosis failure rather than a teaching failure, which is why a free trial lesson that ends in a written note is worth more to a household watching a monthly figure than any package quote could be.

04

Why stoichiometry is the cheapest decisive purchase

If a chemistry student is losing marks across the whole paper rather than in one section, the cause is almost always mole calculations. Mass to moles, moles to concentration, concentration to volume, gas volumes, limiting reagent, percentage yield. These sit inside questions in every theme, which is why weakness there shows up as a general problem rather than a topic gap - and why fixing it improves several parts of the paper simultaneously.

The diagnostic takes two minutes: give a three-step stoichiometry problem and watch where the student stops. A student reconstructing the relationship between mass, moles and molar mass each time is spending working memory on arithmetic that should be automatic, leaving none for the chemistry the question is actually about. That is not a conceptual problem and re-explaining the concept does not fix it.

What fixes it is volume and variety: short calculation sets at the start of every session, across all the forms the Diploma uses, until the conversions happen without thought. Six to eight sessions, run alongside whatever the class is covering, changes performance across the whole subject. At the qualified band that is a defined and modest spend with an unusually visible effect.

For students arriving from Indian-curriculum schools - a large group in these clusters - the position is often reversed. Stoichiometry is strong and the gaps are in explanation writing and mechanism conventions. The same two-minute diagnostic identifies which situation you are in, which is exactly why we run it before quoting rather than after.

05

A two-year chemistry spend plan

Spreading the money across two years rather than reacting in the second produces a better result for less, and the reason is availability as much as pedagogy. Demand for Diploma chemistry tutoring in Dubai peaks in the fortnight either side of mock examinations and again in the final weeks. Those are the periods when the specialists are committed, so a family buying then pays the same rate for a less suitable tutor.

The order that works is: stoichiometry in the first term of the first Diploma year, before it starts costing marks elsewhere. Mechanism conventions as the organic content is taught, not revisited in revision. Investigation feasibility before data collection. Then, if the marked papers justify it, a targeted block on whichever theme is genuinely weak, and finally timed-paper technique in the last term.

The table below sets that out term by term with an indicative session count. The total is deliberately finite, because the alternative - an open weekly arrangement for two years - is several times the cost and produces nothing anybody can evaluate afterwards. If the papers say more is needed, buy more; but start from a defined plan rather than from an open one.

On the calendar itself: UAE schools sit the May examination session, and in most schools in this cluster the investigation deadline, the Extended Essay submission, the Theory of Knowledge essay and the mocks collide within a few weeks in January and February. We publish no specific IB dates - the IB's own site blocks automated checking, so confirm every date with the Diploma coordinator or on ibo.org.

06

The Higher Level premium, and when it is justified

Higher Level chemistry is the standard requirement for medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, veterinary science and chemical engineering, and some universities specify a minimum grade in it rather than merely requiring the subject. That raises the stakes and, honestly, justifies spending at the specialist band where it would not be justified for Standard Level content revision.

The additional content is not evenly distributed. Organic chemistry expands considerably with more reaction types and synthesis route planning. Equilibrium and acid-base work becomes properly quantitative. Energetics adds entropy and free energy. Electrochemistry adds cell potentials. Spectroscopic structure determination appears. Mathematical demand rises throughout, which is why stoichiometry fluency matters more at Higher Level rather than less.

The load question is worth asking honestly before committing to the spend. Higher Level chemistry alongside Higher Level biology and Higher Level mathematics is a common medicine-track combination and a genuinely heavy two years - heavier again for a student losing around ten hours a week to travel from these clusters. A combination that cannot be serviced produces worse results than a well-chosen lighter one.

Read the published requirements for each university and course during the first Diploma year rather than the second. Dropping from Higher to Standard Level is generally possible later; moving up usually is not. And the number that should shape the tutoring plan is the course's minimum grade, not the Ministry of Education equivalency floor, which is a far lower bar and almost never the binding constraint.

07

Investigation feasibility, and why it saves money

Chemistry investigations in this district cluster into four or five familiar shapes, and each has a known way of failing. The dominant failure is practical rather than analytical: a design the school's laboratory cannot execute at the precision the research question needs. A rates study with no reliable way to time the endpoint. A temperature study with no water bath. A titration whose glassware tolerance makes the final uncertainty unacceptable.

For a student living in these clusters that failure is unrecoverable, because there is no extra afternoon in the laboratory. The bus has gone and the journey is not one a working household makes twice in an evening. So the first coaching session is a feasibility session, and it is short: what apparatus does the school have, what is the smallest division on the glassware, how many timetabled sessions remain, and can the temperature be held constant.

Beyond feasibility, the marks sit where they sit in any science investigation: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation, six marks each. In chemistry the data-analysis criterion rewards uncertainty propagated properly through a concentration calculation, which means knowing burette and pipette tolerances rather than estimating them. The evaluation criterion rewards naming the dominant uncertainty source and proposing one specific change.

The boundary is firm and worth stating because the search results this page sits in include an operator selling completed investigations at a published price. The student chooses the question, designs the method, takes the measurements, processes the data and writes the report. The tutor tests feasibility, explains the criteria, questions the design and comments on drafts. A malpractice finding falls on the candidate, not the seller.

08

What to ask before paying, and what we do not claim

Five questions eliminate most bad outcomes, and they are deliberately about money and accountability rather than teaching philosophy. Does the individual teaching my child hold a current MoHRE private tuition work permit, and may I see it? Is the figure per hour or per session, and does it include VAT? Which level have you taught and for how many cohorts? What is the replacement policy if the match fails? And what exactly will you do with the investigation, and what will you refuse to do?

On the permit: private tutoring in the UAE is regulated. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is granted free of charge for two years, and individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so disregard any amount quoted at you. Because the permit is free, it cannot legitimately be priced into a rate.

On VAT: ask every provider, including us, whether the quoted figure includes it, because mixed framings make quotes incomparable. We state it plainly for our own rate after the trial lesson. What we will not do is make general statements about the UAE VAT treatment of tuition, which would require a Federal Tax Authority citation we are not in a position to give on a tutoring page.

And what we do not claim: no office, centre or branch anywhere in the UAE; no KHDA Educational Services Permit, which is issued to training institutes with premises in Dubai; no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson; no promises about grades and no published predicted scores; no ratings we cannot evidence with countable dated reviews; and no board material supplied as downloads, since we cite and link the official sources.

Where we tutor

The clusters, and what travel adds to the bill

What differs between these clusters for a chemistry family is the length of the journey and therefore what an in-home arrangement would cost in both money and time.

China Cluster and Dragon Mart

The commercial core with the district's slowest afternoon traffic. The cluster where a travelling tutor's journey, and therefore the travel premium, is hardest to justify.

England and France Clusters

Dense residential blocks feeding mainly Al Warqa and Al Qusais. Many working households, which is why weekend-morning sessions are in higher demand here than weekday evenings.

Greece, Italy and Spain Clusters

The southern blocks nearest the Ras Al Khor road, with the quickest route towards Garhoud, Nad Al Hamar and Mirdif. The shortest journeys in the district in both directions.

Persia and Russia Clusters

Heavily bus-dependent, so once the bus has gone the school and its laboratory are out of reach for the day. Investigation feasibility matters most for families here.

Morocco Cluster and Warsan Village

The lower-density edge towards the Dubai-Hatta road, from which Silicon Oasis and Academic City are reachable while avoiding the worst of the interchange.

Dubai Silicon Oasis

The nearest Diploma chemistry teaching, at GEMS Wellington Academy. Twenty-five to thirty minutes on a clear morning and longer by bus in the afternoon.

Al Warqa

Universal American School carries IB programmes, making this the shortest IB run from these clusters at around twenty minutes on a normal morning.

Mirdif

Uptown International School runs the full IB continuum, so the same laboratories serve Middle Years sciences and Diploma chemistry. Chosen for continuity rather than convenience.

Al Garhoud and Nad Al Sheba

Deira International School, GEMS Modern Academy and others, generally with the deepest laboratory provision in this part of the city and the longest run from the clusters.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the level, the school and the budget

Including the monthly figure, which most families leave out and which changes the recommendation. With it we can say whether the three ranked blocks fit inside it, which they usually do, or whether something narrower is the sensible first purchase.

  2. 02

    The three-step mole problem

Two minutes in the trial lesson. If the student is reconstructing the mass-moles relationship each time, the stoichiometry block is the first purchase regardless of which theme the class is covering, because it costs marks across the whole paper.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson and a written note

A real lesson on real chemistry with the student working. Afterwards a plain summary: whether the problem is arithmetic, writing or convention, which of the ranked blocks to buy first, and how many sessions it is likely to take. Say no and nothing is owed.

  4. 04

Half a session on investigation feasibility

Apparatus list, glassware tolerances, timetabled sessions remaining, and whether the temperature can be held constant. The cheapest item in the arrangement and the one that protects a twenty-four-mark task from an unrecoverable failure.

  5. 05

Agree short practice, then review against the school's marking

Twenty minutes of calculations or mechanism drawing on two or three evenings, which roughly triples the return on the session. Short written reviews every few weeks against the work the school marks, not against our own impression.

Purchases ranked, not hours sold

Stoichiometry, mechanism conventions and investigation feasibility do most of the work in chemistry. That is perhaps fourteen to eighteen sessions across two years rather than an open weekly arrangement, and we would rather sell the smaller thing that works.

In-home rates carry roughly AED 50 to 150 an hour of travel, and from these clusters that buys a long journey. It also cannot buy what a chemistry student here most needs, which is laboratory access the school controls.

The diagnosis costs nothing and often saves two thirds

One timed paper per science usually shows that one subject is carrying the problem. A three-step mole question usually shows that stoichiometry is carrying that subject. Both are free and both routinely shrink the purchase.

Feasibility before data, every time

From this district a chemistry investigation that cannot be executed in timetabled sessions cannot be rescued. Half a session on apparatus, tolerances and session count protects the whole twenty-four-mark task.

A firm line on the investigation

The student chooses, designs, measures, processes and writes; we test feasibility, explain criteria, question the design and comment on drafts. An operator in these search results sells completed investigations, and that finding lands on the candidate.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in International City: your questions answered

Can I get an IB chemistry tutor in International City?+

Yes, as one-to-one online tuition rather than a tutor coming to your flat, since IB Gram offers home visits only in India. For chemistry from this district the online route removes a travel premium of roughly AED 50 to 150 an hour and buys access to Higher Level specialists who do not live anywhere near Al Warsan. It cannot provide laboratory access, but neither can a travelling tutor - apparatus work happens at school under any arrangement.

Which chemistry tutoring should we buy first?+

A stoichiometry block, almost always. Mole calculations sit inside questions in every theme, so a student who hesitates there loses marks in energetics, equilibrium, acid-base work, redox and the investigation simultaneously. Six to eight sessions of short calculation sets usually makes them automatic, which improves five parts of the paper at once. The diagnostic is a two-minute three-step mole problem, and it is the first thing we do in a trial lesson.

How much does Diploma chemistry tutoring cost per month here?+

Bestimate's 2026 estimates for a weekly one-hour session put mid-range support at AED 600 to 1,200 a month and specialist examination-year support at AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more, with published online packages at AED 799 a month for eight sessions. Hourly, qualified subject tutors online sit at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200, and specialists at AED 200 to 450 or more. Those are market figures from the sources named, not IB Gram rates.

Is the budget rate band usable for chemistry at all?+

For some jobs, yes. Budget and university-student online tutors advertise from roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik from 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from 33 to 52, and that band is genuinely usable for Middle Years science content and for drilling mole calculations once somebody has taught the method properly. What it rarely contains is a tutor who can coach Higher Level organic mechanisms, quantitative equilibrium, or an investigation through uncertainty propagation.

Why do families here end up paying for three science tutors?+

Because a disappointing science profile names a subject area rather than a subject, and nobody runs the diagnosis. Usually one of the three is carrying the problem, and in this cluster chemistry is the most common culprit, generally because of stoichiometry. One timed paper in each science identifies which within a single session. Skipping that step is the most expensive avoidable mistake in this market, and it is why we mark before quoting.

Is a specialist rate ever worth paying for chemistry?+

For Higher Level in a decisive subject, yes. Higher Level chemistry is the standard requirement for medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, veterinary science and chemical engineering, and some universities specify a minimum grade rather than merely the subject. For Standard Level content revision the same spend is poor value. The principle is to match the band to the job: AED 270 for Higher Level organic coaching is defensible; AED 400 for revising Standard Level bonding is not.

What does a feasibility session for the investigation involve?+

Half an hour and four questions. What apparatus does the school actually have? What is the smallest division on the glassware, and what uncertainty does that imply for the final result? How many timetabled laboratory sessions remain before the deadline? And can the temperature be held constant, with what? From these clusters there is no extra afternoon in the laboratory, so a design needing one cannot be rescued - which makes this the cheapest useful money in the arrangement.

How are the chemistry investigation marks divided?+

Four criteria of six marks each, twenty-four in total: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. In chemistry the data-analysis criterion rewards uncertainty propagated properly through a concentration calculation, which means knowing burette and pipette tolerances rather than estimating them. The evaluation criterion rewards naming the dominant uncertainty source and proposing one specific change, rather than observing that more repeats would have helped.

Why are my child's mechanism answers marked down when the product is right?+

Conventions, which mark schemes credit individually. The curly arrow must start from the bond or the lone pair rather than from the atom, lone pairs must be shown where they matter, formal charges must appear on intermediates and partial charges on polarised bonds. An arrow from the wrong origin loses the arrow mark even when the product is correct. Fifteen minutes of drawing practice a session for a month fixes it permanently, which makes it very cheap.

Does it cost more to start tutoring in February?+

The hourly rate does not change, but what you can buy with it does. Demand for Diploma chemistry in Dubai peaks in the fortnight either side of mock examinations and again in the final weeks, and in those periods the specialists are fully committed. A family booking then pays the same money for a less suitable tutor. Committing in the first Diploma term costs the same per hour and secures somebody who teaches the level.

Can we spread chemistry support across two years instead?+

That is the arrangement we would recommend, and it is cheaper than reacting in the second year. Stoichiometry in the first term of the first Diploma year, mechanism conventions as the organic content is taught, investigation feasibility before data collection, a targeted block on a genuinely weak theme if the marked papers justify it, and timed-paper technique in the final term. That is a finite plan with a known total rather than an open commitment.

Does practice between sessions really change the value?+

Substantially, for chemistry in particular. Mole calculations and mechanism conventions change through repetition rather than through explanation, so an hour of teaching followed by nothing delivers perhaps a third of its value at the full price. Twenty minutes of calculations or mechanism drawing on two or three evenings costs nothing and roughly triples the return on the session. We agree the practice and the evening it happens in, because otherwise it does not happen.

What should I ask about the price before booking?+

Whether the figure is per hour or per session, and whether it includes VAT - the two framings are not comparable and some quotes mix them. Ask every provider, including us. We state it plainly for our own rate after the trial lesson. What we will not do is make general statements about the UAE VAT treatment of tuition, which would need a Federal Tax Authority citation we are not in a position to provide on a tutoring page.

Must the tutor hold a permit, and does it affect the price?+

Yes to the first and no to the second. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years, so no tutor can legitimately price it into a rate. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published, so treat any figure quoted at you as unverified. Ask to see the permit.

What if the money would be better spent on something else?+

Then we say so after the trial lesson rather than taking the booking. A student who is not completing the work the school already sets will not be rescued by more teaching, and a difficulty that is organisational rather than chemical usually needs a conversation with the school instead. The written note after the free trial says which situation we think you are in, and for a household watching a monthly figure that is worth more than a package quote.

Tell us the budget and we will tell you the order

If your child is taking IB chemistry and you live in International City, send three things: the level and the school, the last marked paper, and the monthly figure you have in mind. From those we can say which of the three ranked purchases comes first - stoichiometry, mechanism conventions or investigation feasibility - how many sessions it should take, and whether a cheaper band would do the job. The trial lesson is free and starts with a two-minute mole problem. Lessons are one-to-one and online, on Gulf Standard Time.
