IGCSE Home Tutor in Al Reef

The question behind every search for an IGCSE home tutor in Al Reef is whether anybody available actually knows the syllabus your child is entered for. Not the subject, the syllabus: the code, the tier, the papers and the mark scheme. IB Gram runs no home visits in the UAE; lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. This page gives you four questions that separate somebody who teaches the course from somebody who merely knows the material.

  • Matched to the syllabus code and tier before any lesson is offered
  • Four test questions published so you can apply them to anybody, including us
  • Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel treated as different courses, not one subject
  • One free trial hour over live video, with no card details requested

IB & IGCSE in Al Reef

Knowing the subject and knowing the syllabus are different qualifications

A chemistry graduate knows chemistry. Whether they know Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry 0620 Extended is a separate question, and it is the one that determines whether your money buys marks. The syllabus specifies which topics are assessed and to what depth, which papers are sat, what the formula provision is, and what wording a mark scheme credits. None of that is deducible from a degree, and most of it is not deducible from having been a good student of the subject either.

Al Reef makes the distinction unavoidable. The community sits out towards the airport, most secondary students travel out of it for school, and the pool of tutors willing to drive here on a weekday evening is small. Insisting on somebody local therefore selects on geography rather than on the syllabus, and for Extended-tier sciences or an Edexcel-specific code it can select on geography alone. The family is not usually told the pool is thin. They are offered the nearest person who agrees.

The symptoms of a syllabus mismatch are recognisable once you know them. Practice papers come from the wrong board, so the mathematics or science is correct and the question style is unfamiliar. The tutor covers a topic the syllabus does not assess, usually because they are working from the single-science specification when the child sits a double award. Or the tutor's explanation of what earns a mark does not match what the school has said, which a student notices and quietly stops trusting.

This page gives you the tools to check before you pay. It sets out what differs between Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel subject by subject, publishes four questions that reliably separate a course teacher from a subject expert, maps where marks are actually lost in each of the sciences, explains the tiering decisions that change what should be taught, and states the exam-zone rule that catches families every series. Apply all of it to us as readily as to anybody else.

On delivery there is nothing to interpret. IB Gram does not operate home visits in Abu Dhabi, and visiting tutors are a service we provide only in India. Lessons for Al Reef households are one-to-one over live video, on a shared whiteboard, with your child's own worksheet or marked script open, timed to Gulf Standard Time so the hour fits around a long bus route rather than around somebody's drive out from the Corniche. One further note before the detail. Nothing on this page requires hiring anybody. A parent who emails the school for the code, the tier and the calculator rules, and then reads the marked script for the pattern of lost marks, has done the work that most tutoring arrangements get wrong in their first month, and can hand a tutor a brief instead of a problem.

At a glance

  • Match on the code and tier, not the subject name: 0620 Extended, not chemistry
  • Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel differ in papers, phrasing and formula provision
  • A double-award science cuts specific sub-topics; the single-science syllabus misleads
  • Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six zones with different timetables
  • UAE candidates sit June and November; February/March is offered in India only
  • Four published questions will tell you in ten minutes whether a tutor knows the course

Cambridge IGCSE

Organised by syllabus code, with most subjects tiered into Core and Extended. The code determines the assessed content, the papers and the mark scheme: 0580 Mathematics, 0625 Physics, 0620 Chemistry, 0610 Biology, 0654 Coordinated Sciences, 0500 First Language English, 0510 and 0511 English as a Second Language, 0455 Economics, 0450 Business Studies, 0478 Computer Science.

Cambridge allocates each exam centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong zone timetable. Your child's school publishes the version that governs them. UAE candidates sit the June and November series; the February and March series is offered in India only.

Pearson runs International GCSE in May/June and November. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026; June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. IB Middle Years Programme

Run to Year 11 at the continuum schools in this corridor, assessed against four criteria and graded 1 to 8. A student transferring into an IGCSE school part-way through meets structured terminal papers for the first time, which is a technique gap rather than a content gap.

Transfers of this kind are common across Al Reef and the surrounding communities, and the resulting difficulty is consistently misread as weakness in the subject. It is unfamiliarity with the paper: timing, showing working in a form that earns method marks, and reading command terms precisely.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The subjects Al Reef families ask about most, with the code attached and a note on what the syllabus actually rewards. A tutor who cannot talk at this level of detail is working from the subject rather than the specification.

Mathematics (0580 / 4MA1)

Core and Extended, or Foundation and Higher

Circle theorems, trigonometry requiring a drawn diagram and histograms with unequal class widths return marks fastest. Practice has to come from the entered board, because the two set up multi-step questions differently and the mathematics being right is not sufficient.

Physics (0625 / 4PH1)

Core and Extended

Electricity and electromagnetism cost more marks than any other topic in this corridor. After that it is uncertainty handling, graph gradients, units and significant figures, all of which are technique rather than physics and all of which are quick to fix.

Chemistry (0620 / 4CH1)

Core and Extended

Moles calculations and organic reaction pathways decide the grade. The paper credits precise language: naming the increased frequency of successful collisions earns the mark that writing faster reaction does not, which is a vocabulary problem with a short remedy.

Biology (0610 / 4BI1)

Core and Extended

Approachable enough to be under-revised. The extended-response questions on transport, homeostasis and inheritance are where structured answers separate from broadly correct ones, and structure is among the fastest things to teach.

Coordinated Sciences (0654)

Double award

Three sciences in one double award, with specific sub-topics removed rather than everything simplified. A tutor working from the single-science syllabus spends hours on content this course does not assess, which is the clearest example of why the code matters more than the subject.

First Language English (0500)

Single tier

Directed writing and the extended reading response carry the paper. Strong readers still lose marks for ignoring audience, form and purpose, all of which the mark scheme credits explicitly, so the gain is in reading the question rather than in reading more widely.

English as a Second Language (0510 / 0511)

Core and Extended

Assessed across reading, writing and listening, with speaking in 0511. The exercises are formulaic and highly trainable, which makes this the highest-yield English option for a limited number of paid hours.

Economics (0455)

Single tier

Diagram accuracy and command-term discipline decide the grade. An analyse question answered with description earns little however much the student knows, and Gulf-specific examples travel well in the data-response paper.

Business Studies (0450)

Single tier

Entirely case-study driven, so practice must use real inserts rather than definitions. Students who revise terminology collect the knowledge marks and miss the application and evaluation marks, which together outweigh them.

Computer Science (0478)

Single tier

Splits into theory and practical programming, and students are usually competent in one and weak in the other. Establishing which half is failing takes a single session and determines whether paid hours are worth spending at all.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats cover IGCSE requests from this community. All run over live video, with nobody travelling to a UAE address.

Code-matched weekly hour

One fixed hour a week with a tutor matched to the exact syllabus code and tier, working from the school's own material and the marked mock. The practice set is drawn from the entered board only, which removes the most common quiet failure in this subject area.

  • Code and tier confirmed in writing before the first session
  • Past papers drawn only from the entered board
  • Written note after each session naming topic and next target
  • Slot held through school examination weeks for a review

Syllabus audit, one session

A single session that checks what is actually being taught against what the syllabus assesses. It exists because families transferring schools, or sitting a double award, frequently find a term of revision aimed at content that will never appear on their papers.

  • Confirms code, tier, paper pattern and calculator rules
  • Flags topics the syllabus does not assess for that entry
  • Produces a written topic list the student can revise from alone
  • No ongoing commitment; often the only session a family needs

Pre-series block on one or two subjects

Eight to ten weeks before a June or November series, two or three sessions a week on the subjects where marks are most recoverable, every session anchored to a timed section from a past paper on the correct board. The block ends with the series.

  • Topic list taken from the latest marked mock
  • Full papers marked against the published scheme between sessions
  • Nothing new introduced in the final fortnight
  • Finishes at the first paper with no automatic renewal

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Reef

01

Four questions that expose a subject expert who is not a course teacher

  • Which code and tier, and what are the papers?
  • Name one syllabus topic not assessed at my child's tier
  • From this marked script: content, method or timing?
  • What wording does the mark scheme credit, and what earns nothing?
  • Ask all four of every provider, including this one

These take ten minutes and they work on anybody. Ask them of three providers in an afternoon and you will have a ranking that no amount of reading profiles would have produced. The point is not to catch anybody out; it is that the answers are instant for somebody who has taught the course to an examination and assembled in front of you by somebody who has not, and that difference is audible.

First: which syllabus code and tier is my child entered for, and what are the papers? A course teacher will ask you for the code if you have not supplied it, and then describe the paper structure back to you. Second: name one topic in that syllabus that is not assessed at my child's tier. Somebody working from the specification can exclude things; somebody working from a general idea of the subject cannot exclude anything, which is the clearest single signal available.

Third: show them a marked script and ask which lost marks are content, which are method not shown, and which are timing. The three need unrelated remedies and a course teacher separates them in a minute. Fourth: what wording does the mark scheme want for a common question in this subject, and what wording earns nothing? In chemistry, for instance, the difference between describing a reaction as faster and naming the increased frequency of successful collisions is a mark, and a tutor who has marked papers will reach for an example like that immediately.

02

Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel, subject by subject

Both boards are taught across this corridor, sometimes within the same school and occasionally within the same family. The content overlaps heavily and the examinations do not, which is a combination that produces quiet failures rather than obvious ones. Past papers for both are freely available online, so a diligent student can spend a term practising the right material in the wrong format and only discover it from a mock result nobody can explain.

The differences that matter are concrete. Tier names differ, which causes confusion in conversations with tutors: Core and Extended at Cambridge, Foundation and Higher at Pearson. Question phrasing differs, with Pearson generally terser and more directly algebraic in mathematics. Formula provision differs, which changes what has to be memorised. Paper structures differ, so a student who has practised timing on one board's paper can mismanage the other's.

The practical step is a single email to the school asking for the board, the syllabus code, the tier and whether any paper is sat without a calculator, for each subject. Four pieces of information, one message, and the answer governs every revision decision for the next two years. Give the reply to any tutor before the first paid session, and ask them to confirm it back to you in their own words. A tutor who is vague at that point has told you something useful for free, and it has cost you nothing but the time it took to ask.

03

Where the marks are actually lost in each science

Science grades in this corridor are rarely lost evenly across a paper. They cluster, and the clusters are predictable enough that a tutor who knows the course can name them before seeing a script. That predictability is useful, because it means a family with a limited number of hours can target the clusters rather than revising the syllabus from the beginning, which is what happens by default.

In physics, electricity and electromagnetism cost more marks than any other topic, and the practical paper adds a second cluster around uncertainty, graph gradients and significant figures. In chemistry the clusters are moles calculations and organic reaction pathways, with a third cluster of marks lost to imprecise language across the whole paper. In biology the content is broadly learnable alone and the cluster is in extended-response structure, where a correct but unordered answer collects a fraction of the available credit.

What makes these worth targeting is that they are compact. Electricity is a defined body of work. Moles calculations are a technique. Extended-response structure is a format that can be taught in two sessions and then practised. Compare that with a plan that works forward through the syllabus from topic one: six weeks in, the student has revised material they already knew and has not reached the cluster that was costing them the grade. The table below is the version of this a tutor should be able to produce from memory, which is itself a reasonable thing to test in a first conversation.

Tiers, double awards and the content nobody should be revising

Two decisions made by the school govern what your child should be revising, and families routinely do not know either of them. The first is the tier: Core or Extended at Cambridge, Foundation or Higher at Pearson. The second, in the sciences, is whether the entry is for separate sciences or for a double award. Both decisions remove content as well as adding it, and revising removed content is pure waste that nobody notices because it looks like diligence.

The tier decision usually lands between the autumn and spring mocks of Year 11, on mock evidence, and parents can reasonably ask when it is made and whether it can be revisited. The window before it is made is where tutoring has the clearest effect for a boundary student: targeted work on the specific Extended-only topics is a short, defined job. After the entry is submitted, the work changes to paper technique within the chosen tier, and the number of hours needed usually falls.

The double-award question is more often mishandled, because a double award is not a simplified version of three separate sciences. It cuts specific sub-topics while keeping others at full depth, so a tutor working from the separate-science specification covers material that will not be assessed and may miss emphasis that will be. The remedy is a single syllabus audit session at the start: confirm the code, the tier, the paper pattern, the calculator rules, and then produce a written topic list the student can revise from without supervision.

The exam zone rule that catches families every series

  • Use only the zone timetable your child's own centre publishes
  • Check which zone any timetable a tutor produces actually refers to
  • Build the pre-series block backwards from the first paper, not from exam season
  • UAE candidates sit June and November; February/March is offered in India only
  • Link the board's live timetable rather than relying on any restated dates

Cambridge allocates every exam centre to one of six administrative zones, and states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, because it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. That is a strong statement from an examination board and it exists because the mistake is common. A timetable found through a general search may be for another zone, with different dates and different clash arrangements.

The practical consequence for an Al Reef family is that the only timetable worth planning from is the one your child's school publishes for its own centre. Ask for it, and build the revision block backwards from the first paper in the weakest subject rather than from a general idea of exam season. Where a tutor produces a timetable, check which zone it is for before anybody schedules anything around it.

The second half of the calendar question is the series itself. Cambridge runs IGCSE in a June series and a November series, and UAE candidates sit those two: the February and March series is offered to India only. Pearson runs International GCSE in May/June and November, with documented lead times that show why planning happens early. The November 2026 final Pearson timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026; June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. A provider offering a February entry to a child in Abu Dhabi has told you something about their accuracy.

06

Who is permitted to teach your child for money

  • Ask whether the tutor holds a current MoHRE private tuition work permit
  • The permit is free, runs two years, and belongs to the individual not a platform
  • No fine amounts are published; treat any quoted figure as unverified
  • ADEK ethics rules bar tutoring students enrolled at the tutor's own school
  • No tutoring provider holds regulator approval, and none should claim it

Private tutoring in the UAE operates under a permit system, and a local search returns names rather than permissions. Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 introduced the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged fifteen to eighteen.

Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so no amount appears on this page; a figure circulating online could not be verified against any official source and has been left out deliberately. MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through its smart app, website or e-services system. The permit attaches to the individual, so no platform can hold it on a tutor's behalf.

There is a second rule that catches families by surprise in this emirate. ADEK's professional-ethics requirements for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school. That is press-reported rather than taken from the policy text, so verify it against the current ADEK document. It is also worth stating plainly that IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation or licence from ADEK, KHDA, Cambridge, Pearson or the IB, and any provider claiming one should be asked to produce it.

07

Availability, disclosed before the trial

Every provider in this market implies unlimited supply and none of the competitor pages studied for this search discloses a coverage limit. The useful alternative is to say which requests are easy and which are not, because a family that knows can plan around it. From Al Reef, the honest picture divides cleanly between mainstream codes and a short list of harder ones.

Mainstream requests move quickly. Mathematics 0580 or 4MA1, Physics 0625, Biology 0610, English as a Second Language 0510: a match and a trial within a few days, because online delivery means availability is not restricted to tutors willing to drive out past the airport road. Harder requests take longer. Coordinated Sciences 0654 needs somebody who knows which sub-topics the double award cuts. Edexcel-specific science codes need somebody who has taught Pearson rather than Cambridge. Arabic as a first language is treated as a specialism by the regulators themselves.

Where a specialist is based outside the UAE, that is stated before the trial rather than discovered afterwards, and the session is scheduled to Gulf Standard Time so it suits an Al Reef evening. Where nothing suitable is free, the options are a short wait, a narrower piece of work with a second tutor while the specialist frees up, or a referral elsewhere. The one option that reliably costs more is a fast general match, because the diagnostic sessions get repeated when the right person becomes available, and a family ends up paying twice for the same reading of the same script.

Using the free hour properly

  • Send the code, tier, school and marked script before the hour
  • Watch whether the tutor uses your material or a generic topic
  • Ask them to name a topic not assessed at your child's tier
  • Ask your child afterwards whether the explanation landed
  • Close with: what if the match is wrong, and what will you refuse to do

A free trial answers in sixty minutes what no profile, review or phone call can answer, provided you decide in advance what you are testing. Used badly it becomes an introductory conversation, and the decision ends up resting on the same impressions you were trying to get past. Used well it is the cheapest piece of due diligence available in this market, and it costs nothing, takes no card details and creates no commitment.

Send the material first: the board, code and tier, the school, and the marked mock script with the teacher's annotations intact. Then watch for three things. Does the tutor work from that script rather than from a generic topic? Can they separate content losses from method losses from timing losses? And can they name a syllabus topic that is not assessed at your child's tier, which is the quickest proof that they are reading a specification rather than remembering a subject.

Afterwards, ask your child one question: did you follow it? That is the judgement nobody else can make, and it matters more than credentials at this level, because a student who will not ask a question in a session is paying for a monologue. Finish with the two closing questions for the provider: what happens if the match is wrong, and what will you refuse to do. Three providers tested the same way inside a week gives a genuine comparison, and it is quicker than arranging for anybody to drive to Al Reef.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Reef

These are the communities an Al Reef search reaches, and what each one adds to a shortlist of tutors who know a specific syllabus.

Al Reef villages

Villa clusters served in sequence by school buses, with a thin local tutor pool because most households travel out of the community for everything including school.

Al Reef Downtown

Apartment living with more dual-commute households, where the realistic tutoring window is the evening and the appetite for a visiting tutor is low.

Khalifa City

The nearest meaningful concentration of tutors, whose own community's demand absorbs them before an Al Reef family gets through.

Al Raha Gardens and Al Raha Beach

Established cohorts and a reasonable supply of mainstream subject tutors, with the same scarcity in Extended-tier sciences as everywhere else.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City

A large pool weighted towards other curricula, so it broadens general subject coverage without deepening Edexcel-specific or double-award science coverage.

Al Bateen and Al Khalidiyah

Island schools and the base for many experienced tutors, reachable from Al Reef only by pricing a long journey into every hour.

Yas Island and Saadiyat Island

Specialist provision and the emirate's highest rates, at the furthest practical distance from Al Reef for any in-person arrangement.

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Reef

Khalifa City and Al Raha

Where most Al Reef secondary students travel, spanning Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel entries alongside IB continuum provision. Children from the same village can be entered for different boards in the same subject, which is why the code question comes before the tutor question.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Email the school four questions

Board, syllabus code, tier, and whether any paper is sat without a calculator, for each subject. One message, four answers, and they govern every revision decision for two years. Most families have never asked, and tutors rarely insist.

  2. 02

    Send the marked script

With the teacher's annotations left on it. The pattern of lost marks separates content gaps from invisible method from timing collapse, which are three different jobs at three different costs. A conversation cannot distinguish between them.

  3. 03

    Apply the four questions

Which code and tier and what papers; name a topic not assessed at that tier; read the script and classify the losses; name wording the mark scheme credits. Ask them of us and of anybody else you are considering.

  4. 04

    Take the free trial hour

One hour over live video, no card details and no commitment, worked on your child's own script. Then ask your child whether they followed it, which is the only judgement that actually predicts whether the arrangement will work.

  5. 05

Set the slot and review at four

Choose a time that survives the Al Reef bus on a bad day rather than an average one, and agree a four-session review before the first paid hour. If the targeted marks have not moved, something changes at no additional cost.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched to the code, not the subject

A tutor is proposed for 0620 Extended or 4PH1 specifically, and practice papers are drawn from the entered board only. That single discipline removes the most common quiet failure in IGCSE tutoring, which is correct content practised in the wrong question format.

The test questions are published

Four questions that separate a course teacher from a subject expert are on this page precisely so you can use them on us. A provider who publishes a test expects to be measured by it, which is a more useful signal than any claim about quality.

A syllabus audit before content

Double awards cut specific sub-topics and tiers remove content as well as adding it. One session confirming the code, tier, paper pattern and calculator rules prevents a term of revision aimed at material that will never be assessed.

Mark clusters targeted first

Electricity, moles calculations, organic pathways and extended-response structure are compact, predictable and cost the most marks. Working forward from topic one means reaching them in week six, by which time the hours are gone.

Availability stated before the trial

Mainstream codes match in days; Coordinated Sciences, Edexcel science codes and Arabic as a first language take longer, and you are told which applies. No competitor page studied for this search discloses a coverage limit at all.

No claimed approval, from anybody

IB Gram holds no accreditation, licence or partnership from ADEK, KHDA, Cambridge, Pearson or the IB, and says so on the page rather than when challenged. Regulators are explained with their published remits and sources instead.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Reef: your questions answered

How do I tell whether a tutor knows my child's IGCSE syllabus?+

Ask four questions. Which code and tier is my child entered for, and what are the papers? Name one topic in that syllabus that is not assessed at this tier. From this marked script, which lost marks are content, which are method not shown, and which are timing? And what wording does the mark scheme credit for a common question in this subject? Somebody who has taught the course answers all four immediately. Somebody who knows the subject but not the specification cannot exclude any topic, which is the clearest signal of the four.

Why does the syllabus code matter more than the subject?+

Because the code determines what is assessed, which papers are sat, what formulae are provided and what wording a mark scheme credits. Cambridge 0620 and Pearson 4CH1 are both IGCSE chemistry and they are not the same examination. A tutor matched to chemistry rather than to the code will teach correct chemistry against the wrong question style, and the first visible symptom is a mock result that makes no sense given the hours the student has clearly put in.

Does my child sit separate sciences or a double award?+

Ask the school, because it changes what should be revised. A double award such as Cambridge Coordinated Sciences 0654 is not a simplified version of three separate sciences: it removes specific sub-topics while keeping others at full depth. A tutor working from the separate-science specification will cover material that is not assessed and may under-weight material that is. One syllabus audit session at the start, confirming code, tier and paper pattern, prevents a term of misdirected revision.

Which IGCSE science topics cost the most marks around here?+

In physics, electricity and electromagnetism, followed by uncertainty, graph gradients and significant figures in the practical paper. In chemistry, moles calculations and organic reaction pathways, plus marks lost across the whole paper to imprecise language. In biology, extended-response structure on transport, homeostasis and inheritance, where a correct but unordered answer collects a fraction of the credit. All of those clusters are compact and teachable, which is why targeting them beats working forward through the syllabus from topic one.

Can we use Cambridge past papers if my child sits Edexcel?+

Not for full papers. Question phrasing, paper structure and formula provision differ, so practice from the wrong board teaches the right content in the wrong format and mismanages timing. Individual topic questions from the other board can be useful late in the course for extra drill where the topic is identical and the phrasing is not the point. For anything resembling a timed practice paper, use the entered board only. Confirm which it is in writing before building a revision set.

When does the school decide my child's tier?+

In this corridor the decision usually lands between the autumn and spring mocks of Year 11, based on mock evidence, and it belongs to the school. Parents can reasonably ask when it is confirmed and whether it can be revisited. For a student on the boundary, the window before the decision is where tutoring has the clearest effect, because targeted work on the specific Extended-only or Higher-only topics is a short, defined job. After entry, the work becomes paper technique within the chosen tier.

Which exam timetable should we plan from?+

Only the one your child's own exam centre publishes. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong zone timetable, which is unusually strong language and exists because the mistake is common. A timetable found through a general search may be for a different zone with different dates. If a tutor produces a timetable, check which zone it covers before scheduling anything around it.

Can my child sit IGCSE exams in February in Abu Dhabi?+

No. Cambridge offers the February and March series to India only. UAE candidates sit the June and November series, and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November. Any revision plan or tutoring package built around a spring sitting is built on another country's calendar, and a provider offering a February entry to a child here has told you something useful about their accuracy. Plan from the June or November series and build the block backwards from the first paper.

Why is the local tutor pool thin in Al Reef specifically?+

Distance and demand together. The community sits out towards the airport, most households travel out of it for school and work, and a tutor driving here on a weekday evening commits most of that evening to one paid hour. So the people willing to do it are few, and they are selected by geography rather than by syllabus knowledge. For an Extended-tier science or an Edexcel-specific code, geography and specialism rarely coincide, and the family is usually offered the nearest person who agrees.

Does a tutor need a permit to teach in Abu Dhabi?+

Yes. Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 introduced the MoHRE private tuition work permit, granted free of charge for two years, covering school teachers, government and private sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and students aged fifteen to eighteen. Tutoring without one brings fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published so no figure appears here. The permit attaches to the individual rather than any platform, so ask the person teaching your child rather than whoever introduced them.

What should the first paid session actually contain?+

Work on the marked script, not an introduction. If the first session is spent getting to know your child and discussing how the subject is going, you have paid for something the trial hour should have covered. A properly prepared first session opens the script, identifies two or three clusters of lost marks, works on the highest-value one, and ends with a short question set to attempt alone. You should receive a written note naming the topic covered and the next target.

Is it worth paying for past-paper marking?+

Usually yes, and you should check whether it is inside the rate. A full Extended paper marked properly against the published scheme takes thirty to forty-five minutes, and the written feedback naming which mark was lost and why is where most visible improvement comes from. Some tutors include it, some charge separately, and some go through answers verbally in the session, which leaves no record by the following week. A higher rate that includes written marking is often the cheaper arrangement.

How many subjects should we buy help with at once?+

One or two, chosen from the marked mocks rather than from which teacher sent the most worrying email. Rank the subjects by how close the mark is to a grade boundary, whether the losses cluster in a few topics or spread evenly, and whether the subject rewards technique. Subjects with evenly spread losses need content recovery rather than tutoring. Subjects already comfortably above target need nothing. Three or four parallel arrangements exhaust the budget before the term that decides the grades.

What happens if the right specialist is not available?+

You are told, which no competitor page studied for this market does at all. The options are a short wait for the right person, a narrower piece of work with a second tutor meanwhile such as paper technique or a syllabus audit, or a referral elsewhere if the wait is unreasonable. Where the specialist is based outside the UAE, that is stated before the trial and the session is timed to Gulf Standard Time. A fast general match is the option that costs most, because the diagnosis gets paid for twice.

Do you send a tutor to the house in Al Reef?+

No. There are no home visits anywhere in the UAE from IB Gram; visiting tutors are a service we offer only in India. Lessons for Al Reef households run one-to-one over live video, on a shared whiteboard with your child's own worksheet or marked script open, scheduled to Gulf Standard Time. The practical gain is that both the late-afternoon and the post-20:00 window are available at the same rate, and that the tutor is chosen for knowing the syllabus rather than for living within driving distance.

Get the code, ask the four questions, test one hour

An IGCSE home tutor in Al Reef is only useful if they know the syllabus your child is entered for, and that is checkable in ten minutes. Email the school for the board, code, tier and calculator rules. Send the marked script. Ask the four questions on this page of every provider, including us. Then take the free trial hour over live video, with no card details and no commitment, and ask your child afterwards whether they followed it. That answer is worth more than any credential.
