IB IGCSE Tutor near me in Al Reef: What the Month Really Costs

Typing IB IGCSE tutor near me in Al Reef is a question about distance, but the answer a household actually needs is about money. This page starts at the monthly figure, cheapest option first, and works upward: what the Abu Dhabi market charges, what each band buys, which extras never appear on a quote until the second invoice, and what should happen when no specialist is free. Lessons are one-to-one and delivered live online, which is the part of the budget that disappears when nobody has to drive out past the airport.

  • Monthly AED bands published first, with the source named for each
  • Both boards covered: IB DP and MYP alongside Cambridge and Edexcel
  • Coverage gaps disclosed before you pay, not after
  • Pay per session; no annual retainer required to start

IB & IGCSE in Al Reef

The question is distance; the answer is the monthly figure

A household in Al Reef Villas with one child in Year 11 and another in Diploma Year 1 is not shopping for a tutor. It is deciding how much of the month belongs to tutoring. That decision gets made badly in this market because almost nobody publishes a number. Three of the six pages ranking for searches like this one quote no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars, which is not the currency anyone in Abu Dhabi pays rent in.

So the figures come first here, and they come monthly rather than hourly, because that is the unit a household budget uses. The cheapest route into tutoring in this market, online group or university-student support, is estimated at AED 240 to 600 a month for a weekly one-hour session. A qualified subject teacher online sits at roughly AED 600 to 1,200 a month on the same cadence. Specialist exam-year support runs AED 1,000 to 2,000 and upward. In-home packages of four two-hour visits are advertised at AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month. Those bands come from Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai rate table and from the published rates of EdFlik, Tutopiya, Unitors, TutorChase and BartyED, each named where its figure is used.

The second thing a household needs is the difference between those bands. The step from the budget band to the qualified band buys somebody who has taught the paper. The step from the qualified online band to the in-home band buys driving, and from Al Reef that is thirty to forty minutes each way. Nothing about the drive improves a Diploma physics grade. The step into the premium band buys scarcity - a named specialist in a subject few people teach - and that step is worth taking for Higher Level Chemistry or a Theory of Knowledge essay, and not worth taking for Year 10 maths.

The third thing, and the one this market hides, is the extras. Registration fees. Minimum session blocks. Cancellation windows that charge for a lesson missed because a child had a fever. Assessment fees for the diagnostic that should have been free. Materials charges for past papers that belong to the boards and should be cited and linked rather than sold. A quote that does not mention any of these is not a complete quote, and the list of questions that gets you a complete one is printed further down this page.

On delivery, the honest version: home visits are not something IB Gram sells anywhere in the UAE, because that is an India-only service, and nobody will arrive at an Al Reef address from us. What this household gets instead is a tutor chosen from everyone who teaches the relevant syllabus rather than from the few willing to make the drive, a session that can begin at 17:00 because there is no traffic in it, and a rate with no travel component inside it. Where no suitable tutor has a slot, you are told so and told when one is expected, rather than being matched with whoever was free.

At a glance

  • Monthly market estimates for a weekly hour: AED 240-600 budget, AED 600-1,200 qualified, AED 1,000-2,000+ specialist exam year
  • In-home packages of four two-hour sessions are advertised at AED 1,599-1,799 a month; online eight-session packages at around AED 799
  • The drive from Al Reef to the island or Khalifa City is thirty to forty minutes each way and is priced into every in-home quote
  • Ask for registration fees, minimum blocks, cancellation terms and materials charges in writing before the first session
  • Past papers and mark schemes belong to the boards; a provider should link them, not sell them
  • IB and IGCSE entries both appear in Al Reef households, often in the same family, and they need different specialists
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

An Al Reef household covering both boards is covering four distinct things, not two. The programmes below are the ones that turn up in this community, with what each actually demands of a tutor's time and therefore of the budget.

DPAges 16-19 - Diploma Years 1 and 2

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. The maximum is 45 points: 42 from six subjects marked out of 7, with up to three bonus points from the combination of Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay. Every subject carries internally assessed coursework, and that coursework is where a two-year timetable either holds or collapses.

The Diploma is the most expensive programme in this community to support, because six subjects plus coursework supervision is a wide front and the specialist bands apply. The budget discipline that works is to buy Higher Level subject help and Extended Essay process coaching, and to leave Standard Level subjects the student is managing alone. A household trying to tutor all six subjects at once will spend at the top of the specialist band and still not finish the coursework on time.

MYPAges 11-16 - Years 7 to 11

IB Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups assessed against published criteria on a one-to-eight scale rather than by examination, with a Personal Project in the final year. Marks come from criterion-referenced tasks, so a student can know the content and still score poorly by failing to meet the criterion wording. The transition from criterion marking into Diploma examinations is a real step and is often the reason a strong Year 11 struggles in Diploma Year 1.

For an Al Reef family the Middle Years Programme is usually the cheaper half of the budget, because the help needed is interpretation of criteria rather than examination technique. A short block before each reporting cycle, aimed at how the criteria are worded, does more for a Middle Years grade than a standing weekly slot. The Personal Project needs process coaching only, never content production.

IGCSEAges 14-16 - Years 10 and 11

Cambridge IGCSE

Subject-by-subject examinations with syllabus codes on the statement of entry: Mathematics 0580, Physics 0625, Chemistry 0620, Biology 0610, Economics 0455, Business Studies 0450 and the rest. Tiering varies by subject, with Core and Extended options in several. UAE candidates sit the June and November series; the February and March series is offered to India only and has no bearing on an Abu Dhabi child.

Cambridge entries dominate the schools Al Reef children travel to in the Khalifa City and Al Raha corridor. Because entries are per subject, the budget can be per subject too, which makes this the easiest programme to spend sensibly on: pick the two subjects where the mock grade is furthest from the target and leave the rest. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, so the school's own version of the timetable is the only one that counts.

EdexcelAges 14-16 - Years 10 and 11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

The other major IGCSE route, with its own codes: Mathematics A is 4MA1, Physics 4PH1, Chemistry 4CH1, Biology 4BI1, English Language A 4EA1. Examinations run in May/June and November each year. Pearson publishes a provisional timetable ahead of each series, and the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, which is a useful indication of the shape of that window.

Mixing boards within one household is common in Abu Dhabi, because siblings at different schools sit different entries. The budget consequence is that a single tutor rarely covers both well in the same subject, and a provider who claims otherwise without naming the specification codes is guessing. Pearson results timing also matters locally: November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026, so a November resit means waiting into the new year.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Subject choice drives cost more than board does. The grid below ranks by what the Abu Dhabi market charges for cover rather than by popularity, because scarcity is what moves a rate from the qualified band into the specialist band.

Mathematics

IGCSE 0580 and 4MA1; IB AA and AI at HL and SL

The highest-volume request in this community and therefore the easiest to buy at a sensible rate. Cover is deep at IGCSE and thinner at Analysis and Approaches Higher Level, where Paper 3 and the exploration push a tutor into the specialist band.

Physics

IGCSE 0625 and 4PH1; IB DP HL and SL

Cover is reasonable at IGCSE and scarce at Higher Level, where the practical and data-analysis component plus the internal assessment narrow the field. Expect specialist-band pricing for Diploma Higher Level and qualified-band pricing for Year 10 and 11.

Chemistry

IGCSE 0620 and 4CH1; IB DP HL and SL

Organic chemistry and the internal assessment are where households end up paying specialist rates. At IGCSE the subject is well covered. The step from 0620 to Diploma Higher Level is one of the largest in the Diploma and is worth budgeting for before Year 12 starts.

Biology

IGCSE 0610 and 4BI1; IB DP HL and SL

Content-heavy rather than conceptually difficult, which makes it cheap to support well: structured recall work and command-term discipline rather than a specialist. The internal assessment is the part that needs a trained eye, and that is a short block, not a year.

Economics and Business

IGCSE 0455 and 0450; IB DP Economics HL and SL

Diploma Economics carries internally assessed commentaries on published news articles, which is process work a tutor can coach without ever touching the student's writing. At IGCSE the marks sit in command terms - explain, analyse, evaluate - rather than in content.

English

IGCSE 0500, 0510 and 4EA1; IB DP Language A and Language B

Diploma English includes an Individual Oral assessed on a global issue through two extracts, which is the single most coachable component in the Diploma because it rewards structure. IGCSE English divides into First Language and Second Language routes that demand different preparation.

Computer Science and ICT

IGCSE 0478 and 0417; IB DP Computer Science

Thin cover across the whole emirate, so this is reliably specialist-band work. The IGCSE pseudocode and trace-table questions are mechanical and teachable quickly; the Diploma internal assessment solution needs supervision across months rather than hours.

Arabic and Islamic Education

Mandatory alongside any licensed curriculum

Required in private schools regardless of the international curriculum the school is licensed for, and taught in separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students. Often absent from a household's tutoring budget until a report arrives, and then needed urgently. Material is tightly prescribed.

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay

IB Diploma core

Worth up to three bonus points combined, which is the difference between a conditional offer and a rejection. Support here is process coaching: question framing, source selection, structure, meeting the assessment criteria. Nobody writes any part of it for the student, ever.

Further and Additional Mathematics

IGCSE 0606 and 4PM1

Taken alongside the main maths entry by students heading for A Level or Higher Level Analysis and Approaches. Schools usually run it as an option set with thin teaching time, so the support burden lands at home. A short block on calculus notation is better value than a weekly slot.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three purchasing shapes exist, and they differ mostly in how much of the month they commit. The right one depends on whether the problem is a known gap or an unknown one.

Pay-per-session, no retainer

Sessions booked and paid for individually, with no annual commitment and no minimum block. This is the shape to start in, because it costs nothing to stop. A household that is unsure whether tutoring is the answer should never begin with a term-long package, however much the per-hour figure improves.

  • No registration fee and no minimum block to begin
  • Cancellation terms stated in writing before the first session
  • Stop after one session with nothing further owed
  • Rate does not change if you later move to a weekly slot

A named block against a named problem

Six to ten sessions aimed at a specific component - the Chemistry internal assessment, 0580 non-calculator accuracy, the Individual Oral - with a defined end. Costs a fraction of a year-long arrangement and is the correct purchase whenever the problem can be named precisely.

  • Scope agreed before the first session, in writing
  • Ends when the component is addressed, not when a term ends
  • Sized from a marked script or a returned criterion sheet
  • Extendable, but not automatically renewed

Two children, two boards, one schedule

The common Al Reef case: a Year 11 on Cambridge entries and a Diploma student on IB, needing different specialists in the same week. Scheduled together so the evenings work, with the heavier subject placed earlier and sibling slots arranged back to back where it helps.

  • Separate specialists per board, one coordinated timetable
  • Billed per session per child, never bundled into an opaque family rate
  • Shared skills - graph work, command terms - taught once
  • Shifts to post-Iftar timing through Ramadan

Exam-season intensives

Concentrated work in the weeks before a series, or in the gap between results and a resit entry. Priced the same per hour but compressed, so the monthly figure rises while the total falls. Built backwards from the entry deadline rather than forwards from the enquiry.

  • Three to five sessions a week for a fixed period
  • Full papers under timing rather than topic sheets
  • Pauses during the examination fortnight itself
  • Covers private-candidate entry logistics where a school will not enter a resit

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Reef

01

What proximity is actually worth from Al Reef

The phrase near me assumes that distance is the constraint worth optimising. For tutoring delivered to a community thirty kilometres from the island, it is close to the least useful constraint available, and the table below prices it.

Start with what proximity gives you. A tutor who can reach the house can sit at the table with a child who will not engage on a screen, can take a book out of a bag, and can be physically present in a way a younger student sometimes needs. That is real and for some children it decides the outcome. It is the honest case for an in-home visit and it is why the service exists in this market at AED 180 to 500 an hour.

Now price what it costs. Thirty to forty minutes of driving each way is inside that rate whether or not it is itemised. The pool of tutors willing to make the run on a weekday evening is small, and the subset of that pool who teach Diploma Higher Level Chemistry, Computer Science or Analysis and Approaches Paper 3 is smaller again. A household optimising for proximity is choosing a specialist from a shortlist of people whose main qualification is a tolerance for the Sweihan road at six in the evening.

There is a scheduling cost too. A tutor with a Yas Island or Al Raha booking earlier in the evening will offer Al Reef the late slot, which for a Year 11 means the session lands after the point at which anything is retained. Removing the drive moves the session earlier, and an earlier session on a school night is worth more than a better tutor at nine o'clock. That is the trade, stated plainly, and a household can reasonably decide either way once it is stated.

The monthly figure, cheapest first

Households budget monthly, so this is the band set a household should be given. Read it from the bottom up, because the useful question is how little will do rather than how much is available.

At the bottom, a weekly one-hour session with a budget online provider or a university-student tutor is estimated at AED 240 to 600 a month. EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to 65 an hour and Tutopiya from around AED 33 to 52, which is where those monthly figures come from. For a Year 9 who needs company while doing homework, this band is honestly adequate and nobody should talk a household out of it.

In the middle, a qualified subject teacher online on the same weekly cadence is estimated at AED 600 to 1,200 a month, with Unitors publishing IGCSE tuition from AED 150 an hour and IB from AED 200. This is the band that suits most Year 10 and 11 work and most Standard Level Diploma subjects. Above it, specialist exam-year support is estimated at AED 1,000 to 2,000 a month and upward, with TutorChase quoting around AED 270 an hour and BartyED around AED 650 for premium examiner-led work. Online package pricing around AED 799 a month for eight sessions appears repeatedly in this market; in-home packages of four two-hour visits are advertised at AED 1,599 to 1,799.

The practical rule that follows is to buy the lowest band that can do the job and to escalate only where scarcity forces it. One Higher Level science at the specialist band plus two subjects at the qualified band is a coherent monthly budget. Four subjects at the specialist band is a household paying for insurance it will not use. All of these figures are market observations with their sources named; none is an IB Gram price list, and the first session is a free trial precisely so that the right band can be identified before money moves.

Covering two boards in one household without paying twice

  • Diagnose by problem type - technique, content, or deadline - before choosing a tutor
  • Pay once for shared skills; never assume specification knowledge transfers between boards
  • Insist on per-session, per-child billing so the useless lines are visible
  • Light supervision across months beats a weekly slot for Diploma coursework

The Al Reef case that recurs is two children, two schools, two boards. One sits Cambridge entries in Year 11; the other is in Diploma Year 1 with Higher Level sciences and an Extended Essay to start. Treated as one problem this gets expensive fast, and the mistake is almost always the same: buying breadth where depth was needed.

Separate the two children's needs by type rather than by subject. The Year 11 problem is examination technique against a known paper structure, diagnosable from a marked mock and fixable in a defined number of hours. The Diploma problem is a two-year timetable with coursework deadlines inside it, where the risk is not a weak topic but a missed internal deadline. Those need different purchases: a block for one, light supervision over months for the other.

Then decide where a single tutor can genuinely serve both. Shared skills exist and are worth paying for once - graph interpretation, standard form and significant figures, the command-term vocabulary that runs from IGCSE through to Diploma papers, writing enough method to earn marks when an answer is wrong. What does not transfer is specification knowledge. A tutor who has taught 0620 Chemistry is not thereby a Diploma Higher Level Chemistry tutor, and a provider who implies otherwise without naming codes and levels is selling convenience as expertise.

The budget version of this is simple arithmetic. Two children at the qualified band, one session each per week, lands around AED 1,200 to 2,400 a month. Adding one Higher Level specialist for the Diploma child takes the top of that range higher. Adding a standing slot for every subject in both households' timetables produces a figure nobody intended and no better outcome. Bill per session per child, see the lines separately, and cut the ones that are not producing a change in marked work.

Availability, and what you should be told when there is none

No competitor page in this market discloses a coverage limit. Several conceal non-UAE delivery behind an overseas telephone number and let a parent discover it later. That is the gap this section fills, because an honest answer about availability is worth more to a household than an optimistic one.

Cover is not uniform. Mathematics and the IGCSE sciences are deep, and a suitable tutor with an evening slot is usually available quickly. Diploma Higher Level Chemistry and Physics are thinner. Computer Science at Diploma level, Analysis and Approaches Paper 3, Language B at Higher Level and the less common Group 6 subjects are thin everywhere in the Gulf, not only in Abu Dhabi. Arabic and Islamic Education cover exists but is in demand because the subjects are mandatory in private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum.

What should happen when the match does not exist is that you are told, told when it is expected, and offered the nearest sensible alternative with its limits stated. What should not happen is a slot filled by whoever was free. A household that is given an honest no in week one and a specialist in week three is better served than one given a generalist in week one and a wasted month.

Two further questions get a household a straight answer about any provider. First, where is the tutor physically, and in which time zone will the sessions actually be scheduled. Second, does the tutor hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit. The permit is granted free of charge for two years and covers school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. A provider who cannot discuss it is telling you something about how carefully they recruit.

Tutoring inside the whole education budget

Tutoring is rarely the largest education line in an Al Reef household, and reading it against the others changes how it gets decided. Dubai's private school sector, the best-documented in the country, enrolled 387,441 students across 227 schools in 2024-25, teaching 17 different curricula, with UK curriculum schools at 37 per cent of students, Indian at 26, US at 14 and the International Baccalaureate at 7. Abu Dhabi's sector is supervised separately, by ADEK, which handles licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate and publishes its own inspection outcomes.

Fee movement matters to this calculation. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under an economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. That is a Dubai measure rather than an Abu Dhabi one, but it sets the context every family in the country reads fee letters against. Dubai's 2026-27 intake also adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places after enrolment rose 6 per cent in 2025-26.

Against a school fee, a tutoring line of AED 600 to 1,200 a month for one subject is a real commitment but a comprehensible one. Against two Higher Level specialists plus two Year 11 subjects, the same household can find itself spending a meaningful fraction of a term's fees on support that was never diagnosed. The discipline is to attach every line to a named problem and a marked piece of evidence, and to remove the line when the evidence changes.

Two costs that households forget belong here too. Private-candidate examination entry carries a fee set by the centre rather than by the board, and it applies whenever a school will not enter a resit. And the mandatory UAE subjects sit outside the international curriculum budget entirely until a report arrives: Arabic, Islamic Education and social or moral studies are required in private schools whatever curriculum the school is licensed for, taught in separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students, with Standard Arabic as the language of instruction for Arabic as a first language and Islamic Education for Arab students.

06

The permit question, and why the cheapest tutor can be expensive

  • The MoHRE private tuition work permit is free of charge and valid for two years
  • No fine amount for unpermitted tutoring is published, so no figure should be quoted to you
  • Abu Dhabi school staff are reported as barred from paid tutoring of their own enrolled students
  • IB Gram claims no regulator or board accreditation and occupies no UAE premises

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and is open to teachers registered in government or private schools, to government and private-sector employees, to unemployed individuals, to university students and to school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service page is Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, listing no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the ministry's smart app, website and e-services system.

Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No schedule of amounts is published, so no figure should be quoted to a household, and any page quoting one should be treated with suspicion. The position to hold is that the permit is required rather than optional, and that a provider who treats it as paperwork is a provider who has not checked.

Abu Dhabi adds a specific restriction a household should know. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff have been reported as prohibiting teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct carries a comparable bar. So the arrangement that feels most convenient - the child's own subject teacher, privately, for cash - is the one to decline. Verify the current wording against ADEK's own policy document before treating that summary as final.

A business with premises and staff is a different legal animal from an individual tutor: in Dubai that requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. IB Gram holds no permit of that kind, claims no accreditation from any regulator or examination board, and has no office, centre or branch in the UAE. It is an online matching platform. Saying so is the point: a household that knows exactly what it is buying can price it properly.

07

What nobody should be charging an Al Reef household for

  • Ask in writing: registration fee, assessment fee, minimum block, cancellation window, materials charge
  • Board materials should be linked and cited, never sold as a pack
  • A guarantee of a grade or a points total is a reason to leave, not a reassurance
  • Any rating shown must come with a countable, attributable set of reviews

A quote becomes comparable only once the extras are visible. Five lines recur in this market and all five are negotiable or avoidable, which is why they are worth naming before the first session rather than after the second invoice.

Registration and assessment fees come first. A diagnostic session that establishes what a student needs is work the provider does in its own interest, and in a market with free trials it should not carry a charge. Second, materials. Official syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables belong to the examination boards; they should be cited and linked, not reproduced and sold. A provider offering a pack of papers for a fee is selling something that is not theirs to sell.

Third, cancellation terms that charge in full for a lesson missed because a child was unwell. A notice window is reasonable; an unconditional charge is not, and it should be read before anything is signed. Fourth, minimum blocks. A twelve-session minimum sold before a single lesson has happened transfers all the risk to the household. Fifth, the word free used with a condition attached that appears only later - a trial that requires card details, or a discount tied to a commitment that is not stated on the same screen.

Two claims belong in the same bin. Any guarantee of a grade, a score or a points total should end the conversation, because no tutor can make one and a provider who does is describing their sales process rather than your child's prospects. And any review score shown without a countable, attributable set of reviews behind it is decoration. Competitor pages in this market have shown two different ratings and review counts on the same page, and one shows a rating drawn from a handful of reviews beside a student-count claim far larger than that.

Mandatory UAE subjects and where they land in the budget

Every household covering IB or IGCSE in the UAE is also covering a second curriculum it did not choose, and it usually appears in the budget late. Private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, but must adhere to the Ministry's general regulations. That federal baseline is the rule behind each emirate's mandatory-subject requirement.

The requirements are specific. Arabic, Islamic Education and social or moral studies are mandatory in private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum. Classes must be organised separately for Arab and non-Arab students for Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and combined classes for both groups are prohibited because the curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. Standard Arabic is required as the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language, and Arabic is the primary language for Social Studies for Arab students, with the school's licensed-curriculum language used for non-Arabs in Islamic Education and in moral, social and cultural studies.

Two further details affect what tutoring can honestly offer here. Instructional time for these subjects is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, with schools permitted to vary lesson length provided the weekly total is met and advice that any mandatory-subject lesson should run at least 25 minutes. And the use of any different or additional content, without prior permission from the Ministry of Education, is strictly prohibited. A tutor therefore works within prescribed material rather than bringing a parallel syllabus, and any provider promising their own improved Arabic programme has not read the rules.

The budget consequence for an Al Reef household is to treat these subjects as a standing small line rather than an emergency. A short block before each reporting cycle, inside the prescribed material, costs a fraction of the panic purchase that follows a weak report in the final year. It also matters later: Arabic and Islamic Education are not counted among the five subjects required for Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track, so the reason to support them is the school report and the child's own progress, not the equivalency file.

Where we tutor

Where Al Reef sits in the Abu Dhabi tutoring market

Al Reef is far enough from the island that proximity stops being a sensible way to choose. The communities below are the ones whose rates and availability set the price an Al Reef household is quoted.

Al Reef Villas and Downtown

Lower housing cost than the island, which is exactly why households here notice tutoring cost. Evening sessions start realistically at 17:00 or later once buses have returned, and that is the slot every other community wants too.

Khalifa City

The nearest real concentration of tutors and tuition centres. A centre class here adds a second car journey to the week, which is a cost even when the per-hour figure is the lowest on offer.

Al Raha Gardens and Al Raha Beach

Quoted higher in-home rates than Al Reef for the same tutors, which tells a household how much of a local quote is about driving distance rather than about teaching quality.

Al Reem Island

Dense towers where a visiting tutor can fit three sessions into an evening. The per-session economics there are better than anything available in a villa community, and rates reflect it.

Saadiyat Island

The top of the emirate's school and tutoring market, and a useful benchmark. A Saadiyat-level quote offered to an Al Reef household is a statement about mileage, not about specialism.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City

A deep pool of resident teachers across several curricula, and the closest thing to local supply. Cover thins quickly for Diploma Higher Level sciences and Computer Science.

Yas Island

Competes directly for the 17:00 to 19:00 window. A tutor with a Yas booking will offer Al Reef a later slot or a higher rate, and both are forms of the same travel cost.

Al Bateen and the Corniche

Island districts with long-established schools and short walking distances between them. Tutors based there rarely accept an Al Reef weekday run at any price, which is the practical ceiling on local matching.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Reef

Al Reef and the airport corridor

Closest to home, and the schools that set the end-of-day time for most children in this community. Session planning starts from the bus timetable rather than from the tutor's calendar.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Say which board, which level, which component

The first message that helps contains board, level and the specific component in trouble: Cambridge 0620 Paper 4, Diploma Higher Level Physics internal assessment, Analysis and Approaches Paper 3. That narrows the specialist search immediately and prevents the generic weekly slot that costs a household the most.

  2. 02

Take the free trial before anything is paid

One trial session per student, booked without card details. It is spent on diagnosis: working problems while the student explains the reasoning aloud, which separates fluency gaps from content gaps. You leave it knowing which band of tutor the problem actually needs.

  3. 03

Get the full quote in writing

Hourly rate, whether the quoted figure includes any applicable tax, registration or assessment fees, minimum block, cancellation window, materials charges, and what happens if the match fails. A provider who will not put that in a message is a provider to leave at this step rather than the next one.

  4. 04

Buy the smallest thing that can work

A named block against a named component, at the lowest band that can do the job, billed per session. Escalate to a specialist only where scarcity forces it. Households almost never regret starting small; they regularly regret a term-long package bought in the first week.

  5. 05

Review against marked work, then cut or continue

After the block, compare marked work from before and after and decide line by line. Anything not producing a change in marked evidence gets removed. That is the only progress report worth paying attention to, and it is the step that keeps the monthly figure honest.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The numbers are on the page

Monthly and hourly AED bands are published here with each source named, which almost nothing ranking for this search does. Three of six researched competitor pages publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars - a currency no Abu Dhabi household transacts in.

Coverage limits are disclosed first

Where no suitable specialist has a slot that works from Al Reef, that is stated along with the expected wait. No competitor page found in this market discloses a coverage limit at all, and several route UAE enquiries to overseas numbers without saying where delivery happens.

Per session, per child, no retainer

Billing stays itemised so a household can see which lines are producing a change in marked work and remove the ones that are not. Nothing requires an annual commitment, and the rate does not improve as a reward for signing one.

Matched to the specification, not the postcode

Because sessions run online, the tutor is chosen from everyone teaching that specification rather than from the few willing to drive out past the airport. For scarce components - Higher Level Chemistry, Computer Science, Paper 3 - that is the difference between a specialist and a generalist.

The honesty boundary is printed

Tutors teach, review and give feedback on the student's own work and produce none of it. At least one operator in this market sells completed internal assessments outright, so the boundary is worth stating rather than assuming, for the student's sake more than ours.

No claimed accreditation, no UAE premises

IB Gram claims no approval, accreditation or partnership from ADEK, KHDA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and occupies no office or centre in the UAE. Knowing precisely what a provider is lets a household price it correctly.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Reef: your questions answered

What does searching for a tutor near me actually get an Al Reef household?+

It gets you the subset of tutors willing to drive thirty to forty minutes each way on a weekday evening. For deep subjects like IGCSE maths that subset is adequate. For Diploma Higher Level Chemistry, Computer Science or Analysis and Approaches Paper 3 it is very small, and the people in it are selected partly for their tolerance of the drive. Published in-home rates of AED 180 to 500 an hour carry that travel inside them. If your child will work on a screen, dropping the proximity requirement widens the choice enormously and lowers the rate.

Is it cheaper to use one tutor for an IB child and an IGCSE child?+

Only for the skills that genuinely transfer - graph interpretation, significant figures, command-term discipline, writing enough method to earn marks. Specification knowledge does not transfer. Someone who has taught Cambridge 0620 Chemistry is not thereby a Diploma Higher Level Chemistry tutor, and a provider who suggests otherwise without naming codes and levels is selling convenience. Expect two specialists and one coordinated timetable, billed per session per child. That is usually cheaper in the end than one tutor covering both adequately and neither well.

What is a realistic monthly tutoring budget for a household in Al Reef?+

Market estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240 to 600 a month at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 with a qualified subject teacher online, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. A sensible shape for two children is one qualified-band slot each, plus one specialist component where scarcity forces it. Those are market figures with sources named, not an IB Gram price list. Start with the free trial, identify the band the problem needs, and buy that rather than the band that sounds reassuring.

Do IB and IGCSE tutoring cost different amounts in Abu Dhabi?+

Yes, and the gap is driven by scarcity rather than by prestige. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 an hour and IB from AED 200, which reflects how many people can teach each. IGCSE cover is deep across maths and the sciences, so rates sit in the qualified band. Diploma Higher Level sciences, Computer Science and the core components push into the specialist band of AED 200 to 450 and above. Within the Diploma, Standard Level subjects are cheaper to cover than Higher Level for the same reason.

Which subjects are hardest to find a tutor for near Al Reef?+

Diploma Computer Science, Analysis and Approaches Paper 3, Higher Level Language B and the less common Group 6 subjects are thin across the whole Gulf rather than just locally. Diploma Higher Level Chemistry and Physics are thinner than their IGCSE equivalents. Arabic and Islamic Education cover exists but is in demand, because those subjects are mandatory in private schools whatever curriculum the school is licensed for. For these, insisting on a tutor within driving distance of Al Reef usually means accepting a generalist, which is the expensive outcome.

What should a provider tell me if no specialist tutor is available?+

The honest wait, before any money moves, and the nearest alternative with its limits stated plainly. No competitor page found in this market discloses a coverage limit at all, and several conceal where delivery actually happens behind an overseas telephone number. A household given a straight no in week one and a specialist in week three is better served than one given a generalist immediately and a wasted month. Ask where the tutor is physically located and which time zone sessions will be scheduled in.

Do tutoring rates in Abu Dhabi rise closer to the exam season?+

Availability tightens rather than headline rates rising, and the effect on a household is the same. In the weeks before a series the evening slots that suit a child go first, and the tutors left are the ones with the most capacity rather than the most relevant experience. Scarce components feel this hardest: a Higher Level Chemistry specialist who was free in October may have nothing in March. Booking a named block early costs the same per hour and buys the slot, which is the part that actually becomes scarce.

Does a quoted hourly rate include tax?+

Ask, and get the answer in writing rather than verbally. A quote that does not state whether the figure is inclusive is not a complete quote, and the difference matters across a term. IB Gram does not publish an hourly rate on this page, so the question belongs to the consultation after the free trial. On how tuition fees are treated for tax purposes generally, the Federal Tax Authority is the only authority worth citing, and no tutoring page including this one should state the position as settled fact.

What hidden extras appear on tutoring invoices in this market?+

Five recur. Registration or assessment fees for a diagnostic that should be free. Materials charges for past papers and mark schemes that belong to the examination boards and should be linked rather than sold. Cancellation terms that charge in full for a lesson missed through illness. Minimum blocks sold before a single lesson has happened. And the word free attached to a condition that appears only later, such as card details for a trial. Ask about all five in writing before the first session and the quotes become comparable.

How long does matching a tutor from Al Reef usually take?+

For deep subjects - IGCSE mathematics, the IGCSE sciences, Standard Level Diploma subjects - a suitable tutor with a workable evening slot is normally available quickly, and you will often have a choice. For thin components the wait is real and you should be told its length rather than offered a substitute. Because delivery is online there is no search radius to satisfy, so the constraint is the tutor's calendar in Gulf Standard Time rather than their distance from the Sweihan road.

Do Arabic and Islamic Education need separate tutoring from the main curriculum?+

They are separate subjects with separately prescribed content, so yes. They are mandatory in private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and classes must be organised separately for Arab and non-Arab students, with combined classes prohibited because the expectations and the language of instruction differ. Content is tightly controlled: using different or additional material without prior Ministry of Education permission is prohibited. A tutor therefore works inside the prescribed material. Anyone offering their own improved Arabic programme has not read the requirement.

Can we pay per session instead of committing to a monthly package?+

You should be able to, and it is the right way to start. Packages improve the effective hourly rate - around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions appears repeatedly in this market - but they transfer the risk to the household before anyone has established that the tutoring works. Begin per session with no minimum block, see a change in marked work, then move to a package if the arrangement is clearly worth continuing. A provider who only sells blocks before a first lesson is asking you to decide without evidence.

Is a tuition centre class in Khalifa City cheaper than one-to-one online?+

Per hour, yes, and it is the lowest figure available in this market. The full cost is higher than it looks for an Al Reef household: a second car journey each week, a room moving at the median student's pace, and a tutor rostered by the centre rather than chosen for your child's specification. It works well for broad coverage before mocks. It works poorly for a named weakness, because most of the hour is spent watching other students' problems being solved rather than your child's.

What happens if the first tutor turns out to be the wrong match?+

You should be able to change without penalty and without re-paying for the diagnostic work already done, and the terms for doing so should be in writing before the first session. Ask specifically what happens to any unused sessions in a block. Mismatches are normal and not always about competence - timing, pace and manner all matter to a teenager. What is not normal is a provider who treats a change as a renegotiation, which is one more reason to start per session rather than per term.

Should tutoring pause during the examination fortnight itself?+

Usually yes, with one exception. During the papers themselves a student's time is better spent on the next paper's own revision than on a scheduled session, and the sensible plan pauses and resumes. The exception is a short, specific session between two papers in the same subject when a predictable weakness is about to be tested again. Agree the pause in advance so it does not become a cancellation charge, which is one of the five extras worth settling in writing before anything starts.

Decide the band first, then the tutor

The useful order for an Al Reef household is band, then component, then tutor. Work out from the monthly figures above which band the problem actually needs, name the component precisely, and only then ask who is available to teach it. That sequence keeps the budget attached to evidence and makes the quotes comparable, which is most of what goes wrong in this market. Book the free trial, bring the marked work and the board and level, and the first conversation will be about which band and which component rather than about how many hours to sell. Sessions run one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time.
