IB Maths Tutor in Eastern Mangroves

Looking for an IB maths tutor in Eastern Mangroves usually means comparing options: this pocket of the island against Al Reem across the channel, a local name against a specialist, Analysis and Approaches against Applications and Interpretation. IB Gram matches Diploma families here with one-to-one mathematics specialists teaching over live video in Gulf Standard Time. The comparison this page makes is that the course and the paper decide the tutor, and the address decides almost nothing.

  • AA and AI specialists at both Standard and Higher Level
  • Paper 3 and Exploration coaching as separate, scoped work
  • Live video one-to-one; sessions set around island commute times
  • Free trial lesson built around a real past-paper question

IB & IGCSE in Eastern Mangroves

Two addresses, one answer: the comparison parents actually make

Families on the mangrove channel compare before they commit, and the comparison usually runs along two axes at once. The first is geographic: is there somebody good on this side of the water, or do we look at Al Reem Island, Al Bateen, Saadiyat or the Khalifa City corridor? The second is academic: which Diploma maths course is my child actually on, and does that change who we need? The honest finding is that the second question matters and the first one barely does.

Here is why. Diploma mathematics is not one subject. It is two courses — Analysis and Approaches, and Applications and Interpretation — each offered at Standard and Higher Level, which makes four distinct syllabuses with different papers, different calculator rules and different university consequences. The pool of teachers who genuinely specialise in AA Higher Level Paper 3 is small in any single city, and it is not distributed by neighbourhood. Searching within a few kilometres of the promenade narrows that pool to almost nothing, while narrowing by course and level widens it enormously.

This is the reason IB Gram teaches UAE families online, one-to-one, over live video, rather than visiting homes. Home visiting is a service we run only in India. For a Diploma maths student the trade is a good one: screen sharing is a better medium for working through a Paper 2 question than a notebook on a kitchen table, because both people see the same working, graphs can be plotted live, and the whole session is reviewable afterwards. Nothing about graph sketching or calculus notation improves by having the tutor physically present.

The neighbourhood comparison is still worth making, because it changes one real variable: what time a session can start. A child at a school a few minutes along the inner island roads is home and settled far earlier than one crossing the Sheikh Zayed Bridge from Saadiyat or coming up the highway from Al Raha. For families with two children at different schools, the arrival times can be ninety minutes apart. That is a scheduling problem, not a tutoring problem, and online delivery is what makes two slots on one evening possible at all.

The rest of this page is the mathematics. What each paper is worth at each level. Where the twenty Exploration marks actually sit and what a tutor may and may not touch. The topics Abu Dhabi Diploma students lose marks in most reliably. What the Abu Dhabi market charges for specialist maths help, with the figures attributed. And a direct comparison of this pocket of the island against the neighbourhoods either side of it, so the geographic question gets a real answer rather than a reassuring one.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Mathematics runs through the whole IB continuum, and the handover points are where families on this part of the island most often ask for help. Each stage below describes what the maths looks like and what a tutor is actually doing there.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme mathematics

Criterion-referenced rather than examined by a board, with four criteria covering knowledge, pattern investigation, communication and real-life application. Students can hold a strong MYP profile while carrying algebraic gaps, because investigation criteria reward process and reasoning. The fix in MYP 4 and 5 is fluency work: manipulation, indices, surds and functions practised until they are automatic.

Abu Dhabi has several IB continuum schools, so a child here may do MYP and then Diploma on the same campus, or move from an MYP school on one island to a Diploma cohort on another. The second case is the harder one, because the receiving school's DP1 teaching assumes a baseline the MYP course never examined directly.

DP1Ages 16-17 · DP1

Diploma Year 1 mathematics

The year the course is chosen and most of the content delivered. AA or AI, Higher or Standard, is settled early and is awkward to change later. DP1 is also when the Exploration topic is usually proposed, which makes the spring of DP1 the cheapest moment in the whole Diploma to buy mathematics support: the content is still being taught and the Exploration has not yet become a deadline.

Island families regularly discover in DP1 that the school's maths option block forces a choice they did not expect — AI Higher Level where AA Standard was wanted, or the reverse. Where the timetable is fixed, a tutor's job is to make the available route work for the degree the student is aiming at rather than to relitigate the choice.

DP2Ages 17-18 · DP2

Diploma Year 2 mathematics

Finishing the syllabus, submitting the Exploration and preparing for the May session papers. Three things compete for the same weeks: new content, the Exploration deadline and past-paper practice. Students who sequence them badly lose marks on all three. A tutor in DP2 is mostly a prioritisation engine, deciding what gets attention in which week and what is deliberately left alone.

Abu Dhabi Diploma students sit the May session, with internal school deadlines for the Exploration and for the other Diploma core components typically clustered in the same term. IB Gram does not publish IB examination or results dates, because the board's own site cannot be verified by automated checks; ask your school's Diploma coordinator for the current dates.

Post-DPAges 18+

University mathematics prerequisites

The point at which the AA or AI decision becomes visible. Engineering, physics, mathematics and many economics degrees typically specify Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level; other courses accept either route. The grade matters, but so does the course name on the transcript, and no amount of tutoring in DP2 changes a course chosen in DP1.

For families staying in the UAE, the Diploma also feeds a Ministry of Education equivalency file. The Ministry's published British-track thresholds are sourced; no IB points figure in this project has been verified against the Ministry's own site, so we describe the process and point you to the official channel rather than publishing a number.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Requests for maths help from this pocket of the island arrive as a course name and a symptom. The list below separates the four Diploma routes and the components that generate the most questions, with the loss point named in each case.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches HL

Higher Level

The most demanding Diploma maths route. Three papers plus the Exploration, with Paper 1 sat without a calculator and Paper 3 presenting two extended problem-solving questions. Marks go on proof, calculus technique and the ability to keep going through a long multi-part question when the first part has not resolved cleanly.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches SL

Standard Level

Two papers and the Exploration, with Paper 1 non-calculator. The common profile is a student fluent in routine technique who stalls when a question combines two topics. Differentiation applied to a trigonometric or logarithmic function is the classic case, and it is a fluency problem rather than a comprehension one.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation HL

Higher Level

Calculator-permitted throughout, with heavier statistics, modelling and matrix content. The Higher Level Paper 3 rewards sustained modelling across a long context. Students lose marks by giving a numerical answer without interpreting it in context, which is precisely what the mark scheme asks for.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation SL

Standard Level

Often chosen as the lighter route and then underestimated. Statistics, financial mathematics and modelling carry the paper, and the technology demands are real: a student who cannot drive the graphing calculator efficiently loses marks to time rather than to understanding.

The Mathematical Exploration

AA and AI, both levels

Twenty per cent of the grade, marked out of 20 across five criteria. The two criteria students neglect are personal engagement and reflection, which together carry six marks and need evidence in the writing rather than good intentions. A tutor teaches the criteria and questions the reasoning; the student writes every word.

Paper 3 at Higher Level

AA HL and AI HL

A separate skill from Papers 1 and 2 and worth twenty per cent. Two extended questions that build, so an early error propagates. Practising it requires whole papers under timed conditions, not isolated questions, which is why it is usually the component most neglected until a mock exposes it.

The graphing calculator

All routes

A syllabus requirement rather than a convenience. Students who learned maths on a phone calculator arrive unable to find an intersection, a numerical derivative or a regression line efficiently. Two sessions of pure technology practice often recover more marks than two sessions of content.

IGCSE and MYP to Diploma bridging

Pre-DP1

A short, finite block over the summer before DP1 covering algebraic manipulation, functions, indices and the habit of writing full solutions. The students who need it most are usually the ones with strong prior grades from a course that rewarded process over fluency.

Physics and Economics mathematics

DP support

Diploma physics and economics both fail students on the mathematics rather than the subject: rearrangement, logarithms, gradients and interpretation of a calculated figure. Where that is the real problem, a maths tutor is the cheaper fix than a second subject tutor.

A Level and Further Maths transition

Alternative post-16 route

Relevant to island families who move between Diploma and British sixth-form routes mid-stream. The content overlap is substantial but the assessment style is not, and the adjustment is mostly in how much working a solution is expected to show.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Maths requests from this neighbourhood split cleanly into three shapes, and choosing the wrong shape is the most common way families waste money on mathematics support.

Weekly course support

One session a week following the school's own teaching order through DP1 and into DP2. Suited to a student who is coping but slipping, where the aim is to stop a small fluency gap compounding across a two-year syllabus. Progress is judged against school assessments rather than the tutor's own material.

  • Follows the school scheme of work, including anything taught while away
  • Short homework set weekly and marked at the next session
  • Fluency drilling built in rather than bolted on
  • Half-term review that recommends stopping where stopping is right

Exploration coaching, scoped in sessions

Three or four sessions covering topic viability, the mathematics needed to carry it, the five criteria in the student's own words, and feedback on a draft the student has written. The tutor does not write any part of the Exploration and does not rewrite the student's prose; that boundary is explained before the first session.

  • Topic tested for mathematical depth before any writing starts
  • Criteria A to E taught explicitly, with mark allocations named
  • Feedback on the student's own draft, in questions rather than edits
  • Fixed number of sessions, agreed in advance

Paper-focused examination block

A finite run of sessions aimed at one component: Paper 1 without a calculator, Paper 2 with technology, or Paper 3 at Higher Level. Begins with a full timed paper and ends before study leave. Content teaching stops at the midpoint so that practice has room to work.

  • Opens with a marked timed paper, not a conversation
  • Error types named and tracked week by week
  • Calculator technique treated as a separate skill
  • Finishes before the school's revision leave begins

IB and IGCSE tutors available to students in Eastern Mangroves

The tutors below teach Diploma mathematics rather than mathematics in general. Each works to one course and level — AA HL, AA SL, AI HL or AI SL — because the Paper 1 rules, the Paper 3 style and the Exploration expectations differ enough that a generalist loses marks for a student without ever realising it.

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Eastern Mangroves

01

What a search for an IB maths tutor in Eastern Mangroves is really asking

  • Four Diploma maths routes, each needing a different specialism
  • Course-matching beats proximity-matching in this subject specifically
  • Screen sharing suits graph work better than a notebook does
  • The real neighbourhood variable is session start time, not tutor quality

An IB maths tutor in Eastern Mangroves means a Diploma mathematics specialist teaching one-to-one. IB Gram supplies that to families on this part of Abu Dhabi island over live video. We do not visit homes anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is an India-only service for us. What the parent is usually trying to establish with a neighbourhood search is whether anybody competent is reachable, and the answer is better than the search implies, because reachability stopped being a function of distance once the lessons moved to video.

The question underneath it is more interesting. Diploma mathematics splits into four separate syllabuses, and the most common cause of wasted tutoring money in this subject is a tutor who knows mathematics but not the specific course. An AA Higher Level student needs somebody fluent in non-calculator Paper 1 technique and in Paper 3's extended problems. An AI Standard Level student needs somebody who can drive a graphing calculator at speed and who marks interpretation rather than arithmetic. A capable graduate tutor can fail both of them while being perfectly good at mathematics.

So the comparison that matters is not promenade against Al Reem, or island against mainland. It is specialist against generalist, and course-matched against subject-matched. A family here choosing from the whole pool of AA Higher Level teachers has a materially better chance of getting the right person than one choosing from the handful who happen to live within a short drive. That is the entire argument for online delivery in this subject, and it does not require anyone to pretend the in-home option has no appeal.

The one thing a neighbourhood comparison does settle is timing, and that is worth doing properly rather than waving away. The next section does it.

02

Eastern Mangroves against Al Reem Island: same answer, different reasons

Two families, two kilometres apart with water in between, ask the same question and need the same tutor for different reasons. The Eastern Mangroves family is close to the island school belt, so their constraint is a crowded 4pm to 6pm window shared with sport and siblings. The Al Reem family's constraint is a bridge: a crossing that takes ten minutes at eleven in the morning and thirty at four in the afternoon, which pushes their realistic session start later rather than making it impossible.

Neither constraint is solved by hiring somebody nearby. A tutor with a car in either neighbourhood still arrives inside the same traffic, and the arrival overhead lands on the family's hour rather than the tutor's. What does solve it is a fixed video slot chosen after the actual arrival time is known, which is a conversation that takes two minutes and which almost nobody has before buying tutoring.

The comparison below sets out the five neighbourhoods a promenade family realistically considers, with the practical variable in each. Note the last column: the subject-availability problem is identical everywhere, because Higher Level specialists in scarce subjects are scarce across the whole emirate, not scarce in particular postcodes. That is the sense in which the answer is the same either way.

There is one genuine local difference worth naming. Families on the island tend to have shorter commutes and therefore more scheduling choice, which means they can run two subjects on separate evenings. Families on the long highway runs usually have one usable weekday slot and should put their hardest subject in it, with the second subject at the weekend.

Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation

This is the decision that outlasts every tutor a family hires. The two courses share a core but diverge in emphasis: Analysis and Approaches leans on algebra, calculus and proof, with Paper 1 sat without a calculator; Applications and Interpretation leans on modelling, statistics and technology, with calculators permitted throughout. Both are offered at Standard and Higher Level, and both are respected qualifications. They are not interchangeable as university prerequisites.

The practical rule is to work backwards from the degree. Engineering, physics, mathematics and many quantitative economics courses commonly specify Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, and a student who arrives with Applications at Higher Level can find a door closed that no grade reopens. Courses outside that group frequently accept either. Where a student is undecided at the point of choosing, the conservative route is the one that keeps more doors open, provided the workload is realistic.

The second input is the student rather than the destination. A student who enjoys structure, symbolic manipulation and proof will do better in Analysis and Approaches even at the cost of harder papers. A student who thinks in contexts and data, and who reaches for a graph before an equation, often scores higher in Applications and Interpretation and is happier doing it. A higher grade in the right course beats a lower grade in the prestigious one in almost every admissions scenario.

The third input is the school's option block, which overrides both of the above. If the timetable offers one route, the useful work is making that route serve the intended degree, which sometimes means adding a self-studied component or planning a different university route rather than fighting the timetable.

What each maths paper is worth, and why that changes the plan

Diploma mathematics is assessed on externally marked papers plus one piece of internally assessed work. The weightings are published and they are not evenly distributed, which means revision time should not be either. A student who spends every session on Paper 2 style questions while Paper 3 sits untouched is leaving a fifth of the grade to chance.

At Standard Level there are two papers, each carrying forty per cent, with the Exploration making up the remaining twenty. At Higher Level there are three papers at thirty, thirty and twenty per cent, with the Exploration again at twenty. The Higher Level Paper 3 is the component families most often discover late, usually when a mock paper produces a mark far below the student's usual standard. It is not harder content; it is a different task, built from extended questions where part one feeds part four.

The planning consequence is straightforward. Count the weeks available, allocate them by weighting rather than by comfort, and treat the Exploration as a scheduled project with its own deadline rather than as something that happens alongside. Students who protect two or three weeks for Exploration work in DP1 are not the ones asking for emergency help in DP2.

One further note on the Exploration: it is marked out of twenty, and the mark is converted according to the grade boundaries for the session. A strong Exploration cannot rescue weak papers, but a neglected one reliably costs a grade, which is a poor trade for a component the student controls completely.

05

The twenty Exploration marks, criterion by criterion

  • Presentation 4, communication 4, engagement 3, reflection 3, use of mathematics 6
  • Engagement and reflection need evidence in the work, not assertions
  • Topic depth decides the ceiling on six marks before writing starts
  • A tutor questions and gives feedback; the student writes the whole thing

The Exploration is the part of Diploma mathematics most exposed to bad advice, so it is worth setting out exactly how the marks are distributed. There are five criteria. Presentation carries four marks, mathematical communication four, personal engagement three, reflection three, and use of mathematics six. Twenty in total, and twenty per cent of the final grade.

Students lose marks in predictable places. Personal engagement and reflection together carry six marks and are the two criteria most often treated as decoration: an introduction saying the topic is interesting, and a conclusion saying it was. Both criteria want evidence inside the work — a choice explained, an unexpected result examined, a method rejected and the reason given. Mathematical communication is lost to unlabelled graphs, undefined variables and notation that drifts. Use of mathematics is lost when the topic was never capable of carrying enough depth, which is a decision made weeks before any writing started.

The boundary around this work is firm, and worth stating plainly because this market contains providers who cross it. A tutor may teach the criteria, explain what the command words in them mean, interrogate a student's reasoning and give feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor does not write the Exploration, does not rewrite the student's sentences, and does not supply a topic with the mathematics pre-packaged. Crossing that line is academic malpractice and the consequence lands on the student.

The most useful intervention is also the earliest one: testing a proposed topic for mathematical depth before the student invests a month in it. A topic that cannot reach the level of the course caps the use-of-mathematics criterion no matter how well the writing goes, and that is six of the twenty marks decided before a word is typed.

06

Where Abu Dhabi Diploma students lose maths marks

  • Write the method lines even when the final answer is wrong
  • Treat the graphing calculator as a syllabus requirement, not an aid
  • Practise questions that combine two topics, not single-topic drills
  • Rehearse Paper 3 whole, including recovery from an early mistake

Marked papers from Diploma students in this emirate show the same handful of patterns repeatedly, and almost none of them are about not understanding the mathematics. The largest single loss is unclaimed method marks: a student who can do the question writes three lines where the scheme rewards six, gets the final answer wrong because of one slip, and scores zero on a question they understood.

The second is calculator fluency, which is a bigger problem than its reputation suggests. Students who learned mathematics on a phone arrive at the Diploma without the habits the course assumes — finding intersections, numerical derivatives, definite integrals, regression lines and statistical distributions quickly and accurately. In Applications and Interpretation this is not a convenience, it is most of Paper 2. Two sessions on technology alone often return more marks than two sessions on content.

The third is the question that joins two topics. Differentiating a composite function involving a logarithm, or combining a sequence with a financial model, defeats students who are individually fluent in each component. This is a practice problem with a specific remedy: a diet of deliberately combined questions rather than the single-topic exercises textbooks are full of.

The fourth is Paper 3 at Higher Level, which students neglect because it feels unpractisable. It is practisable, but only in whole papers under timed conditions, with explicit coaching on what to do when part one has not resolved. Students who have never rehearsed carrying an unresolved result forward lose the entire back half of a paper to a single early error.

07

What Diploma maths support costs around the island, and what travel buys

Published rates in this market, as at October 2026, give a usable picture. Qualified online subject tutors advertise from around AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Specialist IB, IGCSE and A Level tutors are quoted from AED 200 to AED 450 and above, with TutorChase listing around AED 270 and premium named or examiner-led tutors advertised as high as AED 650. In-home one-to-one visits, travel included, run from about AED 180 to AED 500 an hour, with Bestimate's 2026 rate table placing the common band at AED 180 to 350.

Set against those numbers, the travel premium is the interesting part of the comparison. The gap between a qualified online rate and an in-home rate is real money, and for that money a family gets a person in the room and loses the ability to choose from outside driving distance. For a general homework-support need that can be a fair trade. For AA Higher Level Paper 3, it is a poor one, because the pool of people who teach that component well is small and is not concentrated near any particular neighbourhood.

Monthly budgeting is the frame most families here actually use. Bestimate's monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions run from AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist examination-year support. Advertised packages in this market have included AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home visits.

IB Gram does not publish a tariff on these pages. The rate depends on level, subject scarcity and session length, and it is quoted after a free trial lesson so that both sides know what is being bought. Every figure above belongs to the provider or source named next to it.

08

Honest limits: what this page will not tell you

  • No IB examination or results dates published here; ask your coordinator
  • No claimed regulator or board approval, because none is held
  • No grade, points or admissions guarantees of any kind
  • Every AED figure attributed to a named source with a date

There are three things this page deliberately does not do, and each of them is something a competing page in this search result does. The first is publishing IB examination and results dates. The IB's own site cannot be verified by automated checking, and a wrong examination date is the single most damaging error a tutoring page can make, because a parent acts on it. Your school's Diploma coordinator holds the current dates; use those.

The second is claiming approval we do not hold. IB Gram is not approved, accredited or licensed by ADEK, KHDA, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the International Baccalaureate or any examination board, and does not describe any school as a partner or client. Several pages competing for this query do one or both. A KHDA educational services permit is a specific instrument issued to training institutes with premises in Dubai, and implying one without holding it is a misrepresentation rather than marketing.

The third is promising outcomes. No tutor can guarantee a 7, a points total or a university place, and any page offering one is selling something it cannot deliver. What can be promised is specific and smaller: a specialist in the right course, a diagnosis from marked work, a plan with an end date, and an honest recommendation to stop when stopping is right.

The fourth, which belongs with the others, is pricing honesty. Every dirham figure on this page is attributed to the provider or rate survey that published it, with the date stated. Three of the six strongest pages for this cluster of searches publish no price at all, and two quote United States dollars to families who transact in dirhams.

Where we tutor

Eastern Mangroves against the neighbourhoods either side

This is the comparison families here actually run. The variable that changes between these addresses is the time a session can realistically start, and the variable that does not change is which maths specialist is right for the course. Both are set out below.

Eastern Mangroves

A compact residential pocket on the channel with no school inside it, so every family commutes outward. Short runs to the Al Bateen and Al Mushrif belt make a 4.30pm session workable for most children schooled on the island.

Al Reem Island

The next one over, and the closest comparison. A bridge crossing at the wrong hour converts a short hop into half an hour, so Reem families more often settle on a 5.30pm slot. The maths specialist they need is identical.

Al Bateen

Established, school-dense and the easiest commute in this group. Families here get the widest choice of session times, which is the one genuine advantage any neighbourhood has over another in this comparison.

Saadiyat Island

Over the Sheikh Zayed Bridge. The longest regular run from the promenade, with children rarely settled before 4.45pm. Early-evening slots work; immediately-after-school ones do not.

Al Raha Beach and Al Raha Gardens

Off the island along the highway, serving a different school cluster. Fewer Diploma places nearby than the island, which is why families here more often ask about Higher Level subjects their school does not offer.

Khalifa City

The largest concentration of Diploma families in the comparison and a forty-minute-plus bus run for some children. Two shorter sessions a week consistently outperform one long one on this route.

Yas Island

A newer school destination with crossings that behave well off-peak. Weekend mathematics sessions solve more scheduling problems here than weekday ones.

Al Bahia and the northern suburbs

Included because siblings sometimes split between an island school and one nearer the Dubai border. Two children, two arrival times, one evening — the case online delivery exists for.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the course, not just the subject

Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, Higher or Standard, and the year group. Add a recent marked paper or the Exploration draft if there is one. Those three items decide which specialist is right, and they take a minute to send.

  2. 02

Free trial lesson on a real question

The trial is a lesson, not a consultation. It usually runs on a past-paper question from your child's own course so you can see the diagnosis being made. If the match is not right, we rematch rather than asking you to persist with it.

  3. 03

A scoped plan with a finish line

You get the number of sessions, the components in order, and the date the block ends. Where the Exploration is involved, the plan states explicitly what the tutor will and will not do with the student's draft before anything is written.

  4. 04

Weekly teaching with marked work between

Sessions run over live video at a fixed Gulf Standard Time slot, with screen sharing for working and graphs. Homework is short, targeted at the named error type and marked at the start of the following session rather than assumed.

  5. 05

Midpoint review against a second paper

A second timed paper on the same course, marked the same way, compared with the first by topic. The review says continue, change or stop. Stopping is a legitimate recommendation and we make it when the evidence supports it.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched by course and level, not by subject

AA Higher Level and AI Standard Level are different jobs. Tutors here are matched to one of the four Diploma maths routes, which is the difference between a tutor who is good at mathematics and one who is good at your child's examination.

Paper 3 treated as its own component

A fifth of a Higher Level grade sits in a paper most students never rehearse whole. We scope it separately, practise it under timed conditions and coach the recovery skill that keeps one early slip from costing the back half of the paper.

A stated boundary on the Exploration

The criteria are taught, the reasoning is questioned, the draft gets feedback, and the student writes every word. We put that in writing before the work starts, because the risk of the alternative falls entirely on the child.

Scheduling that respects an island commute

Sessions are set after the actual arrival time is known, with separate slots on the same evening for siblings at different schools. No travel means the hour you book is the hour your child is taught.

Attributed figures, not round numbers

Every AED band on this page carries the name of the provider or survey that published it and the month it was read. That is a deliberately higher standard than this search result currently sets.

Availability stated before you commit

Where no specialist is free for a scarce course and hour, you hear it immediately, with the options spelled out — a different slot, a dated wait, or a tutor whose location is disclosed before the trial rather than afterwards.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Eastern Mangroves: your questions answered

Is an IB maths tutor on Abu Dhabi island better than one teaching from elsewhere?+

Not for this subject. What matters is whether the tutor teaches your child's exact course — Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, Higher or Standard — and the pool of specialists in any one of those four routes is small in any single city. Restricting the search to a few kilometres around the mangrove channel shrinks it further for no gain, since the teaching happens over video either way. Choose by course, level and the component you need help with, and treat location as irrelevant.

My child is at a school on Al Reem Island. Does the plan change?+

Only the timing. A bridge crossing at four in the afternoon regularly turns ten minutes into thirty, so Reem families usually settle on a later weekday slot than families living beside the promenade. The mathematics, the specialist and the plan are identical, because the tutor is chosen by course rather than by catchment. Work out the real arrival time on a normal weekday first, then fix a slot fifteen minutes after it, and the session stops being a weekly negotiation.

Which Diploma maths course should my child take for an engineering degree?+

Engineering, physics and mathematics degrees commonly specify Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, so that is the safer route where the student can carry it. Applications and Interpretation at Higher Level is a strong qualification but is not accepted as a direct equivalent by every faculty, and no grade later fixes a course chosen in DP1. Check the published entry requirements for two or three target universities before the option block closes, and ask the school's university adviser to confirm what the school has seen accepted.

How much of the Diploma maths grade is the Exploration worth?+

Twenty per cent at both Standard and Higher Level, marked out of twenty across five criteria: presentation four marks, mathematical communication four, personal engagement three, reflection three, and use of mathematics six. It is the only part of the grade the student controls completely and the only part with no time pressure on the day. A neglected Exploration reliably costs a grade; a strong one cannot rescue weak papers. Treat it as a scheduled project in DP1 rather than something that happens alongside revision.

What exactly is Paper 3 and why did my child's mock mark collapse on it?+

Paper 3 is sat only at Higher Level and carries twenty per cent. It presents two extended questions where later parts depend on earlier ones, so a single unresolved step early on can take out the rest of the question. Students who have only practised isolated exercises meet it for the first time in a mock and lose the back half of the paper. The remedy is whole timed papers plus explicit coaching on carrying an unresolved result forward and on flagging an assumption rather than stopping.

Where is the line between coaching the Exploration and doing it for my child?+

Yes, within a clear boundary. A tutor can test whether a proposed topic carries enough mathematical depth, teach the five criteria and what their command words mean, question the student's reasoning, and give feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor does not write any part of the Exploration, does not rewrite sentences and does not hand over a pre-packaged topic. We set that out before the first session, because the consequence of crossing it falls on the student rather than on the tutor.

Does IB Gram send a maths tutor to an address at Eastern Mangroves?+

No, and the page would be dishonest if it implied otherwise. IB Gram makes no home visits in the UAE; in-home tutoring is something we offer only in India. Diploma mathematics for families here is taught one-to-one over live video with a shared screen, which suits the subject well: both people see the same working, graphs are plotted live, and the session can be reviewed afterwards. The trade is a tutor matched to your child's exact course instead of one matched to your postcode.

How many maths sessions a week does a Diploma student usually start with?+

One, in most cases. A single well-used hour with short marked homework between sessions moves more than two hours that leave no time for independent practice. Two sessions a week make sense in narrow circumstances: a student rebuilding a topic from scratch, a DP2 student working on papers and the Exploration at once, or a short block before mocks. Starting at one and reviewing after four weeks is cheaper and gives you evidence before you increase the commitment.

My child is fluent in class but slow in examinations. What fixes that?+

Usually calculator technique and question selection rather than content. Students who cannot find an intersection, a numerical derivative or a regression line quickly lose minutes on every question, and the deficit compounds across a paper. The second cause is attempting questions in printed order instead of banking the accessible marks first. Both are trainable in two or three sessions and both show up immediately in a timed paper, which is why the first session is a timed paper rather than a discussion.

What does specialist Diploma maths support cost in Abu Dhabi?+

Using published market figures as at October 2026: qualified online subject tutors advertise from roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, specialist IB and IGCSE tutors from AED 200 to AED 450 and above, and premium examiner-led tutors as high as AED 650. In-home visits including travel run from about AED 180 to 500. Those are other providers' published rates, not ours. IB Gram quotes after a free trial lesson, because the right figure depends on level, scarcity and session length.

Why does this page not list the IB examination dates?+

Because we have not been able to verify them from the International Baccalaureate directly. The board's site blocks automated checking, and a wrong examination date is the one error on a tutoring page that a parent will actually act on. Secondary sources circulate dates that differ from each other, which is exactly the situation in which publishing looks helpful and is not. UAE Diploma students sit the May session; for the specific dates, ask your school's Diploma coordinator or check the board's own site.

Is it too late to start maths tutoring in the second year of the Diploma?+

No, but what it can achieve narrows as the weeks go. Early in DP2 there is still room to rebuild a topic and to do the Exploration properly. By the spring the useful work is paper technique, method-mark discipline, calculator speed and Paper 3 rehearsal, which can move a grade for a student who understands the content but underperforms on the day. What a late start cannot do is teach a syllabus that was never covered, and a plan pretending otherwise wastes the weeks that remain.

Can one tutor cover Diploma maths and the maths inside physics or economics?+

Often, and it is frequently the efficient choice. Diploma physics and economics both lose students marks on rearrangement, logarithms, gradients and interpreting a calculated figure rather than on the subject itself. A maths specialist who understands those applications can fix the underlying skill once instead of twice. Where the problem is genuinely subject content — a physics topic, an economics diagram — a second specialist is the right answer, and we will say so rather than stretching one tutor across both.

What should we watch for during the free trial lesson?+

Three things. Does the tutor ask to see marked work before teaching anything, or do they launch straight into explaining? Do they name your child's course and paper structure without being prompted, or do they talk about mathematics generically? And at the end, can your child state what their specific weakness is in their own words? A pleasant lesson where the child felt supported is not the same as a useful one. The diagnosis is the product, and it should be visible within the hour.

Choose the course first, the tutor second, the postcode never

Send three things and we can be useful quickly: which Diploma maths course and level your child takes, which component is causing the problem, and a recent marked paper. From that we match a specialist in that exact route, arrange a free trial lesson built around one of your child's own past-paper questions, and scope a block with a stated end date. Teaching runs one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time for families at Eastern Mangroves, Al Reem, Al Bateen and across Abu Dhabi island.
