IB Home Tutor in Muwaileh: What IB Knowledge Actually Looks Like

Parents searching for an IB home tutor in Muwaileh are usually asking whether anyone within reach of this corner of Sharjah genuinely knows the Diploma. It is a fair question. IB marking runs on lettered criteria and command terms that a general subject tutor never meets, and this page sets out how to check for that knowledge before you pay — plus why IB Gram teaches Muwaileh students one-to-one over live video.

  • Tutors matched to IB subject and level, not to a subject label
  • Criterion descriptors read by letter with the student before drafting
  • Sessions after the Muwaileh and University City school run, Gulf Standard Time
  • Coursework support is feedback on the student's own draft, never writing

IB & IGCSE in Muwaileh

Why the IB breaks general tutoring

A tutor who taught maths for fifteen years can walk into an IGCSE paper and be useful immediately. The same tutor meeting an IB Diploma Internal Assessment for the first time is not useful, and it takes a parent about six weeks and several thousand dirhams to discover why. The Diploma does not mark answers the way other systems do. It marks against published criteria lettered A, B, C and onward, each with its own descriptor bands, and a student can produce correct mathematics and still score in the middle because one criterion is empty.

That is the real content of the question behind an IB home tutor search in Muwaileh: is there anyone close by who actually knows this. Muwaileh sits inland, next to University City, along the Maliha Road and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road corridor. It has large school campuses and a genuine local tutoring supply — the proximity of three universities means Sharjah's lower-cost tutoring band is real here in a way it is not in Dubai. What it does not have in depth is Diploma specialists, because the Diploma is a small share of the regional market. International Baccalaureate students made up 7 per cent of Dubai's private-school population in 2024-25, against 37 per cent on UK curricula and 26 per cent Indian.

So a radius search in Muwaileh will usually find you a competent subject tutor and present them as an IB tutor. The difference between the two is not politeness or qualifications. It is whether they can tell you, unprompted, what criterion B asks for in a Mathematics exploration, or why a Biology answer that says "explain" has a different mark expectation from one that says "outline".

This page is built to make that test easy. It sets out what IB-specific knowledge consists of, subject by subject and component by component, so a parent with no background in the course can run the check in one conversation. It also sets out the parts of the Diploma that sit outside subjects altogether — Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay, and the mandatory UAE subjects running alongside — because those are where Muwaileh families most often find nobody local to help.

On delivery, plainly: IB Gram does not send tutors to homes in the UAE. In-home visits are offered only in India. Muwaileh students are taught one-to-one over live video, in Gulf Standard Time, with the draft or the past paper on a shared screen. The argument for that is not cost. It is that the pool for a Higher Level Diploma science stops being whoever will drive out past University City and becomes whoever teaches that course properly.

What follows: the criteria explained by letter, command terms and what each one is worth, the Muwaileh school day and when a session actually fits, the honesty boundary on coursework, and what happens when no specialist is free.

At a glance

  • IB marks against lettered criteria, not a single answer standard
  • Command terms carry different mark expectations — outline, explain, discuss, evaluate
  • A correct answer can score mid-band if a criterion is left empty
  • Diploma specialists are a thin pool across Sharjah; book exam-season slots early
  • Muwaileh students are taught over live video, not at a UAE address
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Muwaileh families arrive at IB tutoring from three directions: a continuum school running the Middle Years Programme into the Diploma, a transfer in from a British-curriculum school, or a move between emirates mid-course. Each needs something different in the first month.

DPAges 16–19 · Years 12–13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects across six groups, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, with Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service alongside. Each subject carries an Internal Assessment marked against lettered criteria. Points come from subject grades plus up to three from the Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay combination, which is why those two components are worth real tutoring attention rather than being treated as admin.

UAE schools sit the May session. This page publishes no IB exam or results dates: ibo.org blocks automated checking, so every DP date should be confirmed with your school's IB coordinator rather than taken from a search result. What is locally fixed is that Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies run alongside the Diploma in UAE private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum.

MYPAges 11–16 · Years 7–11

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups, each assessed against four criteria scored 0–8 and converted to a 1–7 grade by published boundaries. The MYP credits process, communication and reflection explicitly, which is why capable students sometimes carry a 4: the content is right and the justification or communication criterion is thin. A tutor who cannot name the four criteria for the subject in question is working from a general subject plan.

The MYP to Diploma step is the most common reason Muwaileh families start tutoring in Year 11. MYP mathematics samples topics the Diploma assumes fluency in, and the move into Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level exposes that within a term. The useful work is a diagnostic on the specific algebra, functions and proof the DP course opens with, done before Year 12 starts rather than after the first assessment.

CPAges 16–19 · Years 12–13

Career-related Programme and the IGCSE alternative

Not every student in a Muwaileh IB school takes the full Diploma. Some take DP courses rather than the full certificate, some sit a Career-related Programme where the school offers it, and some transfer to A Levels. The tutoring implication is that "doing IB" is not one thing: a DP courses candidate has subject exams and Internal Assessments but no Extended Essay, and the plan should reflect that.

MoE equivalency rules are published for the British and American tracks but the sourced article states no IB points threshold, so no equivalency figure for the Diploma should be published without a Ministry of Education page to cite. Families planning UAE university entry should take the equivalency question to the Ministry directly; it is a process to describe, not one a tutoring service performs.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the Diploma subjects Muwaileh families request most, with the specific component or criterion that decides the grade. Read them as test questions: a tutor who knows the course can expand any line here without notes.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Proof, functions and calculus, with Higher Level Paper 3 an extended investigation rather than a question set. That paper is where predicted grades most often fall. The exploration is marked on criteria including presentation, mathematical communication and personal engagement, and strong mathematicians routinely lose marks on the last of those.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Statistics, modelling and technology use throughout. Students arriving from a British curriculum often read it as the easier route and meet unfamiliar modelling questions. The exploration criteria are identical to Analysis and Approaches but reward genuine collected data, which is a planning decision made in week one.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Energetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms carry the grade. Marks go for state symbols, conditions and reasoning between steps, not for the product alone. The Internal Assessment is assessed on the student's own research question and method; a tutor may question and critique it but never supply one.

Physics

HL and SL

Higher Level adds depth on the same topics, and the additional material is where HL candidates separate. Extended-response marks reward stating the physical principle before the calculation. The Internal Assessment credits experimental design and uncertainty handling, with the result itself carrying no marks.

Biology

HL and SL

Command terms do most of the damage. Outline, describe, explain, distinguish and discuss expect different structures and mark counts, and a student answering all of them identically settles around a 5 whatever they know. Data-based questions on unfamiliar experiments are trainable and almost never trained.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagrams are credited piece by piece — axes, shift direction, new equilibrium stated — so a remembered sketch loses marks before any explanation. The Internal Assessment is commentaries built on published articles, and choosing an article with no diagram-able economics in it is a failure locked in at the start.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

The Individual Oral and the Paper 1 unseen analysis move most under tutoring. Marks go to analysis of how meaning is constructed, not to summary of what happens. Higher Level adds the essay, assessed on sustained argument rather than coverage of a text.

Business Management

HL and SL

Application to the named organisation decides the band: a textbook-correct answer with no reference to the case sits at the bottom. Higher Level carries extension topics and a longer Paper 2. The Internal Assessment needs real organisational data, and sourcing it is the first real piece of work.

Arabic and the mandatory UAE subjects

Language A, language acquisition and ab initio routes

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies run alongside the Diploma in UAE private schools. Separate streams exist for Arab and non-Arab students because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ, so material from one route does not serve the other.

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay

Core components

Together worth up to three points on the Diploma total, and routinely under-supported. TOK is assessed through an exhibition and an essay on a prescribed title; the Extended Essay is an independent 4,000-word piece with a school supervisor. Both are coached through feedback on the student's own drafts and never written for them.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three arrangements, all delivered over live video for UAE students. The right one depends on whether the problem is content, assessment technique or the core components nobody at home can help with.

Weekly subject slot at a named level

One Diploma subject at one level, one fixed hour a week held for the term. Matched to Higher or Standard Level because the Internal Assessment criteria and the paper structures differ. Suited to a student with a diagnosed loss in a subject who will work between sessions.

  • Same tutor weekly, slot held rather than rebooked
  • Criterion descriptors read together before any drafting
  • Past-paper questions worked live on a shared screen
  • A short written note after each session naming the next step

Core components block

Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay support, structured as feedback cycles against the published criteria. These two carry up to three Diploma points between them and are the components Muwaileh families most often find no local help for. Nothing is written for the student at any point.

  • Prescribed title unpacked before the essay is planned
  • Feedback on the student's own draft, never supplied text
  • Mapped to the school supervisor's internal deadlines
  • Ends at submission

Transition diagnostic

A short block for students moving into the Diploma from the Middle Years Programme or a British curriculum. The work is on assessment architecture — criteria, command terms, what a 7-standard paragraph looks like — rather than content, because that is where the grade drop actually comes from.

  • Four to six sessions, not an open-ended commitment
  • Specific algebra, functions and proof work for DP mathematics
  • Command-term practice marked against published expectations
  • Reviewed against the school's first real assessment

01

The criteria, by letter, and why a correct answer can score a 4

This is the single piece of IB knowledge that separates a Diploma tutor from a subject tutor, and it is explainable in a paragraph. Internal Assessments are not marked out of a total and then banded. They are marked criterion by criterion, each lettered, each with its own descriptor bands, and the marks are added afterwards.

The practical effect is that strengths do not compensate for absences the way parents expect. A Mathematics exploration with impeccable mathematics and no personal engagement loses the personal engagement marks outright; brilliance in one criterion cannot reach across. The same is true in the sciences, where the Internal Assessment credits research question, methodology, analysis and evaluation separately, and the experiment producing the textbook answer earns nothing on its own.

This is also why a student reports that they "did everything asked" and came back with a 4. They answered the task. They did not address every criterion. A tutor who knows the course opens by reading the descriptors with the student, in the student's own words, before a single paragraph is drafted — because once the piece is written around the wrong structure, fixing it is a rewrite.

Ask any prospective tutor to name the criteria for your child's subject and say what each rewards. There is no way to fake the answer and no way to give it without having taught the course.

One practical note for Muwaileh families whose child has already drafted something. A piece built around the wrong structure is a rewrite, not an edit, so the cheapest intervention is always the one that happens before week three. If the draft already exists, the first session should still read the descriptors first and only then look at the text.

Command terms: the cheapest marks in the Diploma

  • Outline, describe, explain, distinguish, discuss and evaluate are not interchangeable
  • A correct answer to the wrong command term scores in the lower band
  • Mark-scheme vocabulary is credited in the sciences; paraphrase often is not
  • Diagnose from a marked paper, term by term, rather than from the syllabus
  • This is technique work: four to six sessions, not a term

Every IB exam question starts with a command term, and each term has a defined expectation. Outline asks for a brief account. Explain asks for reasons or causes. Distinguish asks for differences made explicit between two things. Discuss asks for a balanced review with evidence on more than one side. Evaluate asks for a judgement supported by criteria.

Students who answer every question in the same register plateau. It is the most reliable ceiling in the Diploma and the easiest one to lift, because the fix is technique rather than content. A Biology candidate who knows homeostasis thoroughly but writes a description where an explanation was asked for loses marks that no further revision will recover.

This is also where a general subject tutor and a Diploma tutor diverge most visibly in a single session. A general tutor marks the content and says it is correct. A Diploma tutor marks against the command term and says the content is correct but the question asked for something else. One of those conversations changes a grade.

The training is mechanical and quick: take a marked paper, identify the command term on each lost mark, and rewrite three answers to the term rather than to the topic. Four sessions of that does more for a mid-band candidate than a term of content revision.

A parent can run this diagnosis without knowing the subject. Take the marked paper, find each lost mark, and read the first word of the question aloud. If the lost marks cluster on explain and discuss while the describe questions scored, the problem is not knowledge and no amount of revision will move it.

03

When a session actually fits in a Muwaileh evening

Scheduling is treated as an afterthought in most tutoring arrangements and it is the reason a good number of them quietly fail. A slot that does not survive the real school day gets moved, then moved again, then cancelled.

Muwaileh's particular problem is dismissal congestion on the Maliha Road corridor and around University City, where several large campuses release within the same window. A family twenty minutes away by map is thirty-five minutes away at 2.45pm. Add a sibling at a different school and the household is not settled before 4.30pm, which makes a 4pm session fiction and a 5pm session the first realistic option.

Compare that with a home visit. A tutor driving out to Muwaileh is in the same traffic, from the other direction, and the time is paid for either as a travel surcharge or inside the rate. The market reflects it: in-home one-to-one runs AED 180 to AED 500 an hour against AED 150 to AED 300 for the same tutor online, with Bestimate's Dubai rate table putting the usual in-home range at AED 180–350. A live-video session starts at the stated minute because nothing has to arrive.

The second scheduling variable is the exam calendar. Sessions in October are doing different work from sessions in March, and the busiest hours in this market are the eight weeks before the main windows. A family that fixes its exam-season slot in the autumn keeps it; a family that waits for mock results takes whatever is left at whatever time.

What a local search finds, and what it misses

Muwaileh has a real local tutoring supply, and it would be dishonest to pretend otherwise. Three universities sit on its doorstep, and the result is a genuine pool of capable subject help at the lower end of the market — the sort that advertises from AED 45 to AED 150 an hour, as EdFlik's AED 45–65 and Tutopiya's AED 33–52 bands illustrate.

What that pool is good at is content. A student who missed three weeks of mechanics and needs it taught again is well served by it. What it is not built for is Diploma assessment architecture, because almost nobody in it has marked against IB criteria or taught a Higher Level Paper 3 investigation. That is a specialism, and specialisms do not distribute evenly across a district.

The thin spots are consistent and worth knowing in advance: Higher Level sciences, Mathematics Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, Economics with proper diagram and evaluation coaching, and Theory of Knowledge support. Those are narrow pools in Sharjah generally, and narrower still in a specific hour of a specific week in exam season.

There is no shame in using both. Several families in this catchment run a local or budget tutor for content catch-up and a specialist over live video for assessment technique, and that combination is often the best value available. What does not work is buying one and expecting the other.

Price is worth stating alongside that. The specialist end of this market is quoted at AED 150 to AED 300 an hour online, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 for specialist work, and in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to AED 500. Those are market figures read in October 2026, not an IB Gram price list.

The coursework boundary, in writing

  • Criteria explained and the student's own draft critiqued: legitimate
  • Writing, completing or supplying text for submission: never
  • Reproducing board materials as downloads: copyright and malpractice exposure
  • Keeping the reflection record from week one: the student's job, coached
  • Any grade promise attached to coursework: a claim nobody can honour

The Diploma puts more assessed coursework in a student's hands than most systems, and that creates a market. In the researched set, one operator sells completed Internal Assessments outright, at a published price. Naming what that risks is not squeamishness; the consequence lands on the candidate.

IB academic-honesty rules treat submitted work that is not the candidate's own as malpractice, and malpractice findings affect the diploma, not the vendor. So the line has to be stated before a parent asks: a tutor teaches the skill, explains the published criteria by letter, interrogates the argument, reads the student's own draft and says where it falls short of the descriptors. A tutor does not write, does not redraft to completion, and does not supply model text for submission.

The same applies to materials. IB, Cambridge and Pearson syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes, grade-boundary tables and subject guides are their copyright and are available through the school. A tutor works through them with the student and cites the source rather than hosting a download library.

Put the question to any prospective tutor in Muwaileh directly: what will you refuse to do with my child's Internal Assessment? A tutor who has taught the Diploma answers it immediately and usually in more detail than you wanted. Hesitation there is the most informative thing you will hear all week.

There is one more reason to insist on this line beyond the rules. A student who has had a draft written for them has not learned the thing the component exists to teach, and they meet the same demand again in the next subject and again at university. The shortcut compounds.

06

SPEA, the permit and what you can verify yourself

  • SPEA regulates private education in Sharjah, including fee and curriculum approval
  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free and valid for two years — ask whether a tutor holds it
  • No fine schedule is published, so treat quoted penalty figures as unverified
  • A tuition operation with premises in Dubai needs a separate KHDA Educational Services Permit
  • Treat unevidenced examiner status and regulator-approval claims as warnings

Sharjah's private schools are regulated by the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which regulates private education in the emirate. Its remit is broader than inspection: Sharjah's authority approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. That is why provision differs between a Sharjah school and a Dubai school a short drive away, and why a Muwaileh school's IB offer has to be read in the emirate's own context.

Private tutoring sits under a separate rule, and this one a parent can check by asking. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; the fine schedule is not published, so any figure quoted to you should be treated with suspicion. Applications go through MoHRE's own service for private tutor licensing.

Note the related restriction, press-reported rather than taken from the policy document: ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar Abu Dhabi private and charter school staff from paid private tutoring of students at their own school, and the MoHRE code of conduct carries a similar bar. A tutor offering to teach their own enrolled student is not a shortcut worth taking.

For clarity on our own position: IB Gram is not approved, accredited, licensed by or partnered with SPEA, KHDA, ADEK, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the IB or Cambridge, and holds no educational services permit. Naming a regulator here describes the system a Muwaileh student studies inside. It implies nothing about us.

07

The mandatory UAE subjects running alongside the Diploma

  • Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies run alongside the Diploma
  • Separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students are required, combined classes prohibited
  • Arabic and Islamic education are excluded from the five-subject British-track equivalency count
  • Tutoring uses the school's own material; substituting content needs Ministry permission
  • Islamic Education and Arabic teachers need appropriate KHDA approval

A Muwaileh Diploma student is not only doing six IB subjects. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies run alongside the licensed international curriculum in UAE private schools, and they appear on the report with everything else. Almost no tutoring provider in this market addresses them, which is why a parent looking for Arabic grammar help finds a subject chip and nothing behind it.

The rules are specific enough to matter. KHDA's mandatory-subject guidelines require separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and state that combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. Standard Arabic is the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language; Social Studies is taught in Arabic for Arab students and in the school's licensed-curriculum language for non-Arabs.

Two consequences for tutoring. First, the stream is part of the match: material for the first-language route does not serve an additional-language student. Second, content is constrained — for the mandatory subjects, using different or additional content without prior Ministry of Education permission is strictly prohibited, so the work goes through the school's own material rather than around it. KHDA's instructional time for these subjects is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, with at least 25 minutes advised for any mandatory-subject lesson.

One more checkable standard worth knowing: schools are required to ensure that all teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic hold appropriate KHDA approval to teach those subjects. The federal baseline behind all of this is that private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, but must adhere to the Ministry's general regulations.

08

Starting, and what happens when nobody is free

  • Send marked work, not the report card
  • Confirm the subject and level — HL and SL are different jobs
  • Judge the free trial on diagnosis, not rapport
  • Thin specialisms get a wait or a different slot, never a substitute
  • Fix the review point in writing before the first paid session

The first useful document is not a report card. It is the last marked piece of work — an Internal Assessment draft with comments, a marked paper, a teacher's feedback sheet. A grade says there is a problem; marked work shows which criterion was empty or which command term was missed, and that is the only basis on which a tutor can say something worth paying for before being paid.

From there the sequence is short: confirm the subject and level, take a free trial session over live video at a time that survives a Muwaileh evening, and judge that session on one question — did the tutor name the specific loss and say what the next four sessions would cover? If not, you have spent an hour rather than a term's fees.

Coverage limits are real and should be stated rather than concealed. For a thin specialism, the honest options are a different slot with the right tutor, the right tutor teaching over live video from another time zone, or a plain statement that the match is not available this term. A general science tutor placed in front of a Higher Level Chemistry candidate is not a match, whatever it is called.

Then set a review point before the block starts. Six weeks in, read the next marked piece for the same loss you began with. If it has moved, continue. If it has not, change the plan or change the tutor. Sessions that feel useful while the same marks keep disappearing are how a Diploma year gets spent without a grade changing.

Where we tutor

Muwaileh and the districts it shares schools and traffic with

Muwaileh is inland Sharjah, and its tutoring logistics have nothing in common with the lagoon districts. These are the neighbourhoods on the same roads and in the same school catchments.

Muwaileh

Large school campuses either side of the Maliha Road corridor, with Muwaileh Commercial adjacent. School-gate congestion here peaks sharply at dismissal, which is why a 4pm session start rarely survives contact with reality.

University City

Immediately north, holding Sharjah's higher-education cluster. The supply of university-student tutors here is genuine and keeps the emirate's budget band lower than Dubai's, which makes checking who is actually teaching more important rather than less.

Al Zahia

A newer community west of Muwaileh with villa and townhouse housing. Families moving from apartments towards Al Zahia tend to keep the tutoring arrangement they already have, which an online arrangement survives intact.

Aljada

Master-planned and still filling, south of Muwaileh, with schools opening progressively. Households here are often new to the emirate and asking the same first question this page answers.

Sharjah Garden City

Further inland on the Al Dhaid side. The drive from here to the lagoon districts is long enough that a tutor who would travel is a very short list, and online delivery removes the constraint entirely.

Al Qasimia

Central Sharjah, closer to the older British and Indian curriculum schools. A different school mix from Muwaileh, and a reminder that the emirate's tutoring demand is not uniform across a ten-minute drive.

Al Taawun and Al Majaz

The lagoon side, with a high proportion of children in Dubai schools returning late through Al Mamzar. Session times there run later than in Muwaileh, which matters when a tutor's evening is being allocated.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Muwaileh

Muwaileh and University City

Large campuses with broad subject offers, including IB continuum provision and bilingual routes. The cluster draws from across inland Sharjah, so the catchment is wider than the district itself and the dismissal traffic reflects that.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the last marked piece of work

An Internal Assessment draft with comments, a marked paper, or a teacher feedback sheet, plus the subject and level. That document tells a tutor which criterion is empty or which command term was missed. A report grade tells them nothing they can act on.

  2. 02

Confirm subject and level with the school

Higher Level and Standard Level are different courses with different papers and, in some subjects, different Internal Assessment expectations. Ask the coordinator which level your child is registered at and which session the school is entering them for, and ask for the school's own internal deadline calendar.

  3. 03

    Ask the two IB questions

Name the criteria for this subject and say what each rewards. Then: what will you refuse to do with my child's coursework? Neither answer can be faked, and together they separate a Diploma tutor from a competent subject tutor in about three minutes.

  4. 04

Take the free trial over live video

One session, no payment, at a time that survives the Muwaileh dismissal window — usually 6pm or later for a household with siblings at different schools. Judge it on whether the tutor identified the specific loss and named the next four sessions' work.

  5. 05

Agree the block and the review point together

Weekly subject work, a core components block, or a short transition diagnostic, with the target written down. Six weeks later compare marked work against the starting point. If the named loss has not moved, the plan changes or the tutor does.

Criteria before content

The first session on any Internal Assessment reads the published descriptors with the student, by letter, in their own words. A piece written around the wrong structure cannot be rescued by better content later, which is why this order is not negotiable.

Matched to subject and level

A profile says Chemistry Higher Level or Mathematics Applications and Interpretation Standard Level, because those are different jobs with different papers. Matching on "science" is how a Higher Level candidate ends up with a tutor learning the course alongside them.

Coverage limits published

The coverage table on this page names where the Diploma pool is thin in Sharjah: Higher Level sciences, Maths AA HL, Economics evaluation, Theory of Knowledge. No competitor in the researched set discloses a coverage limit at all. Knowing the gaps lets you book a term ahead.

Delivery stated up front

Muwaileh students are taught one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes in Sharjah or anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is an India-only service. That belongs on the page, not in a conversation after booking.

No unverifiable claims

No regulator approval, no unevidenced examiner status, no star ratings, no guaranteed grades or satisfaction percentages. Every figure here carries its source and the month it was read, including the IB exam dates this page deliberately does not publish because they could not be verified.

The coursework line is explicit

Teaching, questioning and feedback on the student's own draft. Never writing it, never supplying text. Stated plainly because an operator in this market sells finished Internal Assessments, and the malpractice risk from that falls on the student's diploma.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Muwaileh: your questions answered

Is there an IB home tutor in Muwaileh who actually knows the Diploma?+

Muwaileh has a genuine local tutoring supply, helped by the universities next door, and it is good at content. Diploma assessment specialism is a different and much thinner pool anywhere in Sharjah — International Baccalaureate students were 7 per cent of Dubai's private-school population in 2024-25 against 37 per cent on UK curricula. So a radius search usually finds a competent subject tutor rather than an IB one. The practical answer is to widen the pool instead of the radius: live-video teaching reaches the specialist even when nobody nearby teaches that level.

How can I tell whether a tutor really knows IB marking?+

Ask them to name the criteria for your child's subject and say what each one rewards. Internal Assessments are marked criterion by criterion, each lettered, each with its own descriptors, and the marks are added afterwards — which is why a mathematically perfect exploration with no personal engagement still loses those marks. A tutor who has taught the course answers without hesitating. One who has not will talk about confidence and exam practice instead.

Does IB Gram send a tutor to homes in Muwaileh?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Sharjah or anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we provide only in India. Muwaileh students are taught one-to-one over live video, in Gulf Standard Time, with the draft or past paper on a shared screen. The gain is the pool: for a Higher Level science or Theory of Knowledge, the choice stops being whoever will drive out past University City and becomes whoever teaches the component properly.

My child's work looks correct but keeps scoring a 4. Why?+

Almost always because a criterion is empty rather than because the content is wrong. IB Internal Assessments credit separate criteria — research question, method, analysis and evaluation in the sciences; communication, presentation, reasoning and personal engagement in a mathematics exploration — and strength in one cannot compensate for an absence in another. Students who say they did everything asked usually answered the task without addressing every descriptor. The fix is reading the criteria together before the next piece is drafted.

Which command terms cost Muwaileh students the most marks?+

Every IB question opens with one, and each has a defined expectation: outline wants a brief account, explain wants reasons, distinguish wants differences made explicit, discuss wants a balanced review, evaluate wants a judgement supported by criteria. A student who answers all of them in the same register plateaus regardless of how well they know the content. It is the most common ceiling in the Diploma and the quickest to lift, because the work is technique — four to six sessions on a marked paper, term by term.

What time can a tutoring session realistically start in Muwaileh?+

Six o'clock for most households, and 5pm only where there is a single child at a Muwaileh school. Dismissal congestion along the Maliha Road corridor and around University City is sharp, several large campuses release in the same window, and a household with siblings at different schools is rarely settled before 4.30pm. Students commuting back from Dubai schools are looking at 7.30pm. Slots are booked in Gulf Standard Time and held weekly, and during Ramadan most families move to a post-Iftar time.

Can a tutor help with the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge?+

Yes, and they are worth more attention than they usually get — together they carry up to three points on the Diploma total. Support is structured as feedback cycles: unpacking the prescribed title, questioning the argument, reading the student's own draft against the published criteria, and keeping the reflection record on track from week one. What a tutor never does is write, redraft to completion or supply model text. The school supervisor's internal deadlines set the timeline, not an external one.

Is my child better off on Mathematics Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation?+

Analysis and Approaches is the algebra-and-proof route and is the one most engineering, mathematics and physics degree courses expect; Higher Level Paper 3 is an extended investigation and the most common cause of a predicted grade falling. Applications and Interpretation is statistics, modelling and technology-permitted work throughout, and students arriving from a British curriculum often misread it as easier rather than different. Check the entry requirements of the actual universities on your child's list, because the two routes are not interchangeable for every course.

Do private tutors in Sharjah need to hold a permit?+

Yes. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, although no fine schedule is published. Since it costs nothing, there is no innocent reason for a working tutor not to hold it.

What does SPEA do, and does it regulate tutoring?+

The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in the emirate, and its remit goes beyond inspection: Sharjah's authority approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. That shapes what a Muwaileh school can offer. It does not license individual tutors, which falls under the MoHRE permit. IB Gram is not approved, accredited or licensed by SPEA, KHDA, ADEK, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE or the IB, and naming them here describes the system rather than implying any endorsement.

Where should I get my child's IB exam and deadline dates from?+

Because they could not be verified from the source that sets them. The IB's own site blocks automated checking, and a date a parent plans around has to be right. UAE schools sit the May session; beyond that, confirm every date — exam window, internal deadlines, results release — with your school's IB coordinator. Cambridge and Pearson dates can be stated because those boards publish them: Pearson's November 2026 final timetable ran to 19 November 2026, with results reaching students in January.

Should we use a cheap local tutor or an online specialist?+

Often both, for different jobs. The lower-cost local band — advertised from around AED 45 to AED 150 an hour, with EdFlik at AED 45–65 and Tutopiya at AED 33–52 — is genuinely useful for re-teaching missed content. It is not built for Diploma assessment technique, because almost nobody in it has marked against IB criteria. A specialist at the market's AED 150–300 online band does the criteria and command-term work. Buying one and expecting the other is the usual mistake.

My child is moving from the Middle Years Programme into the Diploma. What should we do first?+

A short diagnostic on assessment architecture, before Year 12 rather than after the first grade drop. The MYP credits process and communication through four criteria per subject; the Diploma raises the bar on justified reasoning and formalises it in Internal Assessment criteria and command terms. MYP mathematics also samples topics the Diploma assumes fluency in, so the specific algebra, functions and proof work the DP course opens with is worth four to six sessions on its own. Done early it is short; done late it is expensive.

How do I judge whether the tutoring is working after a month?+

On marked work, against the loss you named at the start. Get the failure mode in writing before the block begins — an empty evaluation criterion, command terms answered identically, diagrams unlabelled. After four to six sessions, read the next marked piece or school assessment for that same loss. If it has shifted, continue. If it has not, change the plan or the tutor. Sessions that feel productive while the same marks keep going is the most expensive pattern in this market.

Send the marked work and ask about the criteria

If you are looking for an IB home tutor in Muwaileh, the test that predicts everything is short. Send the last marked piece of work, say which subject and level, and ask any tutor you are considering to name the criteria and say what each rewards. Then take a free trial session over live video at a time that survives the Muwaileh dismissal window — usually six o'clock or later. You will know inside the hour whether the tutor sees what the examiner saw, and that is a cheaper test than a term of invoices.
