IGCSE Home Tutor in Muwaileh: Does the Tutor Know Your Child's Syllabus Code?

The useful version of the question "is there an IGCSE home tutor in Muwaileh who knows this syllabus" is narrower than it sounds. There are two boards, several tiers and two different ways of assessing practical science in Sharjah schools, and a tutor who does not know which one your child sits is guessing. This page shows how to pin that down, then teaches Muwaileh students one-to-one over live video.

  • Tutors matched to the exact syllabus code — 0580, 4MA1, 0625, 4PH1
  • Core and Extended tier handled as different courses, because they are
  • Sessions after the Maliha Road dismissal window, Gulf Standard Time
  • Past papers worked from official board material, never redistributed

IB & IGCSE in Muwaileh

The code, not the subject

Your child's school report says Mathematics. What they actually sit is Cambridge 0580 at Core or Extended tier, or Pearson Edexcel 4MA1 at Foundation or Higher tier, and those four possibilities are four different exam experiences with four different grade ceilings. A tutor who does not establish which one applies in the first conversation will teach the subject rather than the paper, and the gap shows up in a timed mock rather than in a session.

Muwaileh is a good place to see why this matters. The district sits inland next to University City, on the Maliha Road and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed corridor, with several large campuses releasing into the same dismissal window. Those campuses do not all enter the same board, and some enter different boards for different subjects inside one year group. A tutor working across three Muwaileh schools without checking codes is working on averages.

There is a second variable nobody mentions in a tutoring enquiry: practical science. A Cambridge centre may assess practical work through a timetabled practical paper or through an alternative-to-practical written paper, and the revision those two require is substantially different. A parent who does not know which route the school uses cannot judge whether a revision plan makes sense, and most tutors will not ask.

The tier decision is the third. Cambridge Core entry caps the grade at C. That clears the Ministry of Education equivalency floor on the British track, which asks for five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3, but it sits below what most universities want for engineering, medicine or mathematics. Tier placement is usually made in Year 9 on a Checkpoint result and then rarely revisited unless a parent asks.

None of this requires a parent to understand the subject. It requires four facts, all of which the school holds and will share on request, and a willingness to insist on them before money changes hands rather than after a disappointing mock. The four facts are the board, the code, the tier and the practical route, and they are what the first section of this page is about.

On delivery: IB Gram does not send tutors to homes in the UAE. In-home visits are a service offered only in India. Muwaileh students are taught one-to-one over live video, in Gulf Standard Time, with the past paper on a shared screen. Set against the local option, the trade is honest — you lose a person in the room and gain a tutor chosen for the code rather than for the drive.

What follows: how to establish the code and tier in one email, what the two boards actually differ on, the two practical routes, the revision timetable that works backwards from the June series, and where the local pool is thin.

Three qualifications sit behind an IGCSE search in this catchment, plus the progression route families are usually planning towards. The codes below are the ones to confirm with the school before any tutoring is booked.

Cambridge IGCSE

Two years, terminal written papers, and tiered entry in several subjects: Core caps at grade C, Extended reaches A*. The codes are four digits — 0580 Mathematics, 0606 Additional Mathematics, 0625 Physics, 0620 Chemistry, 0610 Biology, 0500 First Language English, 0510 English as a Second Language. On Extended Mathematics, Paper 4 carries the structured long questions that decide most grades, and method marks there are won by showing working.

Cambridge runs IGCSE in June and November series. The February/March series is offered to India only and does not apply to Sharjah candidates. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, and says it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. Take the timetable from your school's exams officer.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Codes beginning with 4 — 4MA1 Mathematics Specification A, 4PH1 Physics, 4CH1 Chemistry, 4BI1 Biology, 4EA1 English Language A. Mathematics Specification A is tiered Foundation and Higher, with two papers of equal weight, so a candidate who mismanages time on the first paper has no shorter second paper to recover on. Science is concentrated in written papers for most routes, which makes timed practice the whole preparation strategy for a weak candidate.

Pearson runs International GCSE in May/June and November. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, and results reached students in January — November 2025 results arrived on 22 January 2026. June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students the next day. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so work from the live official PDF.

CHECKPOINTAges 11–14 · Years 7–9

Cambridge Lower Secondary and the tier decision

The three years before IGCSE, ending in Checkpoint tests that schools use for setting. Cambridge runs Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint in March, May and October. A Checkpoint result that puts a student into Core rather than Extended Mathematics sets the grade ceiling two years ahead of the exam, and that decision is cheap to challenge in Year 9 and expensive to work around in Year 11.

Families in Muwaileh frequently reach tutoring at the point where a Year 10 report reveals a Core entry nobody discussed. The honest route is to ask the school what evidence would support a tier change and work towards it with marked papers, rather than buying remediation hours in the exam year. A tier appeal supported by real marked work is a different conversation from a parental request.

AS/AAges 16–18 · Years 12–13

AS and A Level progression

Where most Sharjah IGCSE students go, and the reason the Year 11 grade matters beyond itself. AS and A Level subject entry usually assumes an A or B at Extended in that subject, and the step up in Mathematics and the sciences is steep because A Level assumes algebraic fluency that IGCSE only samples. Year 11 tutoring aimed at that progression targets the topics AS builds on directly, not just the pass.

Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track asks for five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or better, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. A ranking competitor page states six IGCSE subjects; the sourced figure is five.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The IGCSE subjects Muwaileh families request most, each with the specific place marks go. Use them as test material: a tutor who knows the code can expand any of these without notes.

Mathematics — 0580 / 4MA1

Core and Extended · Foundation and Higher

Extended Paper 4 decides the grade: structured questions on functions, transformations, vectors and probability. Unshown method on a four-mark question typically scores one. Pearson splits the marks evenly across two papers, so pacing matters more there.

Additional Mathematics — 0606

Extended only

Calculus, logarithms and trigonometric identities 0580 never reaches. Treating it as harder 0580 revision is the standard mistake; students who do well have drilled differentiation and the factor theorem deliberately. A thin pool of tutors in Sharjah.

Physics — 0625 / 4PH1

Core and Extended

Electricity and electromagnetism take most of the lost marks, usually when a potential divider is read as a plain series circuit. Six-mark items reward structured reasoning. The centre's practical route changes half the revision plan.

Chemistry — 0620 / 4CH1

Core and Extended

Mole arithmetic and organic pathways carry the grade. Units dropped mid-titration cost marks, and naming a product without its functional group scores nothing. Cambridge examines qualitative analysis in detail — the cheapest marks available.

Biology — 0610 / 4BI1

Core and Extended

Volume, not difficulty. Extended-response marks go to candidates using mark-scheme vocabulary — active transport, partially permeable, selective reabsorption — rather than paraphrase. Data questions on unfamiliar experiments separate the strong candidates.

English First Language — 0500 / 0990 / 4EA1

First Language

Directed writing is marked on audience, register and form as well as content, so fluent generic prose sits at C. Reading questions need quotation plus explanation. The Pearson anthology differs, so revision material does not transfer between boards.

English as a Second Language — 0510 / 0511

Core and Extended

Widely taken in Sharjah schools. The reading-and-writing paper rewards precise information transfer, and copying whole sentences into a note-taking grid loses marks. Speaking is assessed separately and is usually the least prepared component.

Business Studies — 0450 / 4BS1

Extended

Case-study application is the whole paper: a correct definition with no reference to the named business sits in the bottom band. Evaluation questions carry the top marks and need a judgement with a reason — the most trainable skill in the syllabus.

Economics — 0455 / 4EC1

Extended

Diagram marks are awarded separately for axis labels, shift direction and the new equilibrium, so a remembered sketch loses three marks before the explanation starts. Gulf-context data questions appear regularly, which makes local examples genuinely useful.

Computer Science — 0478 / 4CP0

Extended

Theory on data representation and networks is learnable and chronically under-revised while students spend time coding. Pseudocode is marked against the syllabus's own conventions, not Python, which costs marks on every trace table.

Arabic as a First or Additional Language

Both streams

Mandatory alongside the licensed curriculum in UAE private schools and examinable in its own right. Separate streams exist for Arab and non-Arab students because expectations and the language of instruction differ, so material does not cross between them.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three arrangements, all over live video for UAE students. The right one depends on how much of the two-year course is still ahead of you.

Year 10 weekly slot

One subject, one hour a week, from the start of the course. The cheapest effective version of IGCSE tutoring, because a gap that takes six sessions in Year 10 takes fifteen in the spring of Year 11 when seven other subjects are competing for the same evenings.

  • Matched to the confirmed code and tier
  • Content taught alongside the school rather than behind it
  • Early tier review with marked evidence, while a change is still possible
  • Short written note after each session

Year 11 recovery block

Two subjects at most, prioritised by where marks are recoverable rather than by where the grades are worst. Works from marked papers instead of the syllabus, because full re-teaching is not available at this point and pretending otherwise wastes the term.

  • Two subjects maximum, chosen on recoverability
  • Error log maintained across papers, not per session
  • Timed questions in session rather than set as homework
  • Reviewed against the school's mock results

Exam-window intensive

A compressed block in the eight to twelve weeks before the series, built on full papers sat to time and marked against the published mark scheme. Costs more per month and less in total than a year of weekly hours. For a student whose content is sound but whose pacing collapses.

  • Full papers to time, marked against official schemes
  • Zone-correct timetable used for the pacing plan
  • Scheduled around Ramadan and the school's mock window
  • Ends at the exam rather than rolling on

Each tutor below teaches to a named syllabus code and tier rather than to a subject title. The difference is not pedantry: Cambridge 0580 Extended and Pearson 4MA1 Higher cover similar content through different papers, and a tutor fluent in one will teach the other adequately, which is what costs marks under time.

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Muwaileh

01

One email that fixes the whole tutoring plan

Write to your school's exams officer and ask four things: which board each subject is entered with, the syllabus code, the tier, and which practical route the science subjects use. The reply usually arrives inside a day and it is the highest-return ten minutes available to a Muwaileh parent.

Here is why each one changes the plan. The board decides which past papers are useful, and a term spent on the wrong board's papers is worse than no practice because the student learns question shapes that will not appear. The code pins the content: 0580 and 0606 are different syllabuses sat by the same student in the same year, and a tutor told only "maths" will cover the wrong one.

The tier decides the ceiling and the strategy. A Cambridge Core candidate working through Extended material is wasting hours on content they will never be asked; an Extended candidate drilled on Core material arrives at Paper 4 unprepared for the structured questions that carry the grade. The practical route decides whether lab technique or written interpretation of experiments needs the attention.

Ask for the centre's own timetable in the same email. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and warns that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong zone version. A tutor quoting dates from a generic download is working from a document that may not apply to your child.

Cambridge and Pearson are not the same qualification

Parents and even school reports treat IGCSE as one thing. It is two separate qualifications from two separate boards, with different papers, different tiering language and different question styles, and a tutor's fluency does not transfer automatically between them.

Mathematics is the clearest case. Cambridge 0580 runs Core and Extended, with Extended Paper 4 weighted heavily towards structured long questions. Pearson 4MA1 Specification A runs Foundation and Higher, with two papers of equal weight — which means pacing errors cannot be recovered and a student who freezes on Paper 1 has lost half the marks before the second sitting.

Science diverges on assessment rather than content. Cambridge centres choose between a timetabled practical paper and an alternative-to-practical written paper, and those demand different preparation: one needs apparatus handling and observation recording, the other needs the ability to interpret somebody else's experiment on paper. Pearson concentrates most routes into written papers, which makes timed practice the whole strategy.

English is the trap that catches families moving schools. The set texts and anthology differ between boards, so a student arriving from a Pearson school into a Cambridge entry cannot reuse a year of literature revision. Confirm the row that applies to your child before the first paid session, not after it.

One more practical consequence. Grade scales differ too: Cambridge reports A* to G while Pearson International GCSE reports 9 to 1, and a parent comparing two children's reports across boards is comparing different scales. Universities and the Ministry read both, but a family should know which scale they are looking at before drawing conclusions about progress.

03

The tier decision, and how to challenge one properly

Tier is the quietest decision in a British-curriculum school and one of the most consequential. Cambridge Core entry caps the grade at C. That is above the Ministry of Education equivalency floor of grade E or 3, so it does not block a UAE university application outright, but it sits below the entry requirement for most engineering, mathematics, medical and economics routes.

The decision is usually made in Year 9, often on a Checkpoint result, and then it travels forward without discussion. Many parents in this catchment discover it from a Year 10 report that mentions Core, and by then a year of teaching has already been pitched at that level.

Challenging it is possible and it works better with evidence than with pressure. Ask the school what evidence would support a change — typically marked work at Extended standard across several assessments. Then produce that: a short block of tutoring aimed at Extended-standard questions, with the marked outcomes shared with the subject teacher. That is a specific, bounded piece of work, usually six to ten sessions.

What does not work is buying general tutoring and hoping the grade argues for itself, or leaving it until Year 11 when the entry has been made. The honest advice is that a tier conversation belongs in Year 9 or early Year 10, and a parent who reads this in March of Year 11 should put the energy into maximising the Core grade instead.

The year counted backwards from the June series

  • June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026
  • Pearson November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026
  • The November series is the resit route when a June grade misses an AS requirement
  • Cambridge's February/March series is India-only and is not available to Sharjah candidates

Nobody in this market publishes a calendar, which is odd, because the calendar is what decides whether tutoring money does any work. Eight sessions in October buy content. The same eight sessions in April buy pacing. Both cost the same.

Work backwards. Entry deadlines sit months before the papers and the tier is fixed at that point. Mocks land in the preceding term and are the best diagnostic a family will get for free. The window in which timed full-paper practice actually moves a grade is roughly the eight weeks before the first exam, and before that window the hours should be buying content and technique instead.

Ramadan deserves a line of its own in the plan. Study patterns shift, evenings run later, and an intensive block scheduled straight through the month tends to be rescheduled anyway. Families who plan lighter sessions during it and put the intensive work either side lose nothing; families who plan through it lose the sessions and the rhythm.

Dates below are the structure of the year, not a timetable. Both boards revise published timetables and Cambridge warns explicitly about zone versions, so the only version to plan against is the one your exams officer issues.

There is also a decision that arrives suddenly in August. A June grade that misses an AS requirement has a November resit route, but the entry window for it is short, so the call is made in days rather than weeks. Families who have already asked the exams officer what a resit entry involves make it calmly; families who have not spend results week guessing.

Past papers: what a tutor may use and what they may not

  • Official past papers worked through in session with the source cited: legitimate
  • A download library of board mark schemes and papers: not legitimate
  • Three papers properly marked beat twenty skimmed
  • An error log naming the recurring loss is the actual deliverable
  • Coursework feedback yes, coursework writing never

Past-paper work is the core of effective IGCSE tutoring, and it is also where a careless provider creates a real problem. Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes, grade-boundary tables and subject guides belong to Cambridge and Pearson. They are available free through the school and through the boards' own channels.

What a tutor should do is work through official material with the student, in session, citing where it came from. What a tutor should not do is host or supply a download library of board material, and a tutoring service that advertises one is distributing someone else's copyright. For unreleased material the exposure is worse than copyright — it crosses into malpractice territory.

The useful version of past-paper work is narrower than most families expect. It is not working through twenty papers. It is working through three, marking them against the published scheme, and building an error log that names the recurring loss — unshown method, dropped units, mark-scheme vocabulary missing, a command term misread. Then attacking that loss specifically.

On coursework, where a centre runs a component with one: a tutor teaches the skill, explains the criteria and gives feedback on the student's own draft. A tutor does not write it, complete it or supply model text. One operator in this market sells finished Internal Assessments outright; the consequence of using that falls on the candidate.

A note on the error log, because it is the part families skip. It should be one page, kept across papers rather than per session, naming the loss in the student's own words. A log that says "careless mistakes" is useless. A log that says "I write the answer without the working on any question worth three or more marks" is actionable the next morning.

06

Where the Muwaileh tutor pool is deep and where it is not

This district has a genuine local supply, and University City next door is the reason. Three universities on the doorstep produce a real pool of capable subject help at the lower end of the market — the band that advertises from about AED 45 to AED 150 an hour, with EdFlik publishing AED 45–65 and Tutopiya AED 33–52.

That pool is good at content. A student who missed three weeks of trigonometry is well served. It is thinner on mark-scheme technique, which is a different skill: reading a marked paper, naming the loss, and training the specific behaviour that recovers it. The market's qualified-tutor band of AED 150 to AED 300 online is pricing that difference, and in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to AED 500 is pricing travel on top.

The genuinely thin specialisms are consistent: Additional Mathematics 0606, Computer Science 0478 marked against the syllabus's own pseudocode conventions, Accounting 0452, IGCSE Arabic as a first language, and any subject at a specific tier in the eight weeks before a series when every slot is taken.

Using both is often the best value. A local or budget tutor for content catch-up and a specialist over live video for technique is a common and sensible split in this catchment. What fails is buying one and expecting it to do the other's job.

Price is part of this picture and worth stating plainly. The market's qualified-tutor band runs AED 150 to AED 300 an hour online, with Unitors listing IGCSE from AED 150 and TutorChase AED 270 for specialist work, against in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to AED 500 where Bestimate's Dubai table puts the usual range at AED 180–350. Those are market figures read in October 2026.

The permit, SPEA, and what a parent can check

  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free and valid for two years — ask directly
  • No penalty schedule is published, so treat quoted fine figures as unverified
  • SPEA approves Sharjah fees, curricula, programmes and assessment methods
  • A Dubai tuition centre with premises needs a separate KHDA permit
  • Abu Dhabi ethics rules bar school staff from paid tutoring of their own students

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. Applications go through MoHRE's own private tutor licensing service.

Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so a figure quoted to you as the penalty is unverified and should be treated that way. What matters practically is that the permit costs nothing, so a working tutor has no innocent reason not to hold one. Ask.

The school side sits with the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which regulates private education in the emirate. Its remit is wider than inspection: Sharjah's authority approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. That is why a Muwaileh school's subject offer can differ from a Dubai school's a short drive away, and why a report has to be read in the emirate's own context.

For clarity: IB Gram is not approved, accredited, licensed by or partnered with SPEA, KHDA, ADEK, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific licence issued to training institutes with premises in Dubai. Any tutoring service describing itself as regulator-approved should be asked to show the number.

08

Starting from the marked paper

  • Marked paper first, report card second
  • Confirm board, code, tier and practical route before the first paid session
  • Judge the free trial on diagnosis, not rapport
  • Set the review point in writing before the block starts
  • Thin specialisms get a wait or a different slot, never a substitute

The useful first document is the last marked paper, not the report card. A grade says a problem exists; a marked paper shows which four marks went and why, and that is the only basis for saying anything worth paying for before being paid.

Send it with the school name, and with the board, code and tier if the exams officer has replied. Then take a free trial session over live video, at a time that survives the Muwaileh dismissal window — in practice six o'clock or later for a household with children at different schools. Judge the session on one thing: did the tutor name the specific loss and say what the next four sessions would cover?

If the answer was vague, you have spent an hour rather than a term's fees finding out. If it was specific, agree a block with a written target and a review point. Six weeks later, read the next marked paper for the same loss. If it has moved, continue; if not, change the plan or the tutor.

And if no specialist is free for a thin subject at the hour you need, you should be told that plainly. The honest options are a different slot with the right tutor, the right tutor over live video from another time zone, or a wait. A general science tutor in front of an 0606 candidate is not a match whatever it is called.

One last thing to agree up front: what happens if the match is wrong. A reasonable arrangement changes the tutor without an argument, because a mismatch between a student and a teacher is common and says nothing about either of them. A provider that treats a change as a complaint is a provider you will stay with too long.

Where we tutor

Muwaileh and the inland Sharjah districts around it

The practical radius of a home-tutor search here runs inland rather than towards the coast. These are the districts sharing Muwaileh's roads, schools and evening timetable.

Muwaileh

Several large campuses either side of the Maliha Road corridor, with Muwaileh Commercial alongside. Dismissal congestion is sharp and narrow, which is why 4pm sessions do not hold here.

University City

Sharjah's higher-education cluster immediately north. A real supply of university-student tutors, which keeps the emirate's lower rate band genuinely lower than Dubai's and makes checking credentials more important, not less.

Al Zahia

Villa and townhouse housing west of Muwaileh. Families moving here from apartments usually keep an existing tutoring arrangement rather than restarting, and an online arrangement survives the move.

Aljada

Master-planned and still filling, south of Muwaileh, with schools opening in stages. Households are often new to Sharjah and asking the code-and-tier questions on this page for the first time.

Al Qasimia

Central Sharjah, close to the older British and Indian curriculum schools. A different board mix from Muwaileh and a reminder that catchments change within a ten-minute drive.

Sharjah Garden City

Further inland towards Al Dhaid. The pool of tutors willing to drive out this far is very small, which is the clearest case in the emirate for choosing on syllabus rather than on distance.

Al Taawun and Al Majaz

The lagoon districts, with many children attending Dubai schools and returning late. Their usable session times run later than Muwaileh's, which matters when an evening is being allocated.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Muwaileh

Muwaileh and University City

Large campuses with broad IGCSE offers, including Business and Computer Science options the smaller Sharjah schools do not always run. The catchment reaches well beyond the district, which is what makes dismissal traffic so concentrated.

  1. 01

    Email the exams officer

Four questions: which board per subject, the syllabus code, the tier, and the practical route in science. Ask for the centre's own timetable in the same message. The reply usually arrives in a day and it reshapes the whole tutoring plan before a dirham is spent.

  2. 02

    Send the last marked paper

The most recent marked assessment or mock, with the school name. That document shows which marks went and why. A report grade shows that something is wrong without saying what, which is not enough for a tutor to be useful on.

  3. 03

Take the free trial over live video

One session, no payment, at a time that holds up after the Maliha Road dismissal window — usually six o'clock or later. Judge it on whether the tutor identified the recurring loss and said specifically what the next four sessions would cover.

  4. 04

Agree a block with a written target

Year 10 weekly, a Year 11 recovery block on two subjects, or an exam-window intensive. Market monthly packages in this market start around AED 799 for eight online sessions; agree what the block is meant to fix before the first invoice rather than after the third.

  5. 05

Review against school marks at six weeks

Compare the next marked paper with the one you started from, looking for the named loss specifically. If it has shifted, continue. If it has not, the plan changes or the tutor does. Progress is read from school marks, not from how the sessions felt.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched to the code and tier

Cambridge 0580 Extended, Pearson 4MA1 Higher and Additional Mathematics 0606 are three different jobs. The first question asked is which board and code the school enters, because matching on the word "maths" is how a term gets spent on the wrong syllabus.

The practical route is part of the match

A Cambridge centre may use a timetabled practical paper or the alternative-to-practical written paper, and the revision each needs is different. Almost no tutoring enquiry establishes this, and half a science revision plan depends on it.

Board material is cited, never redistributed

Past papers and mark schemes are worked through in session from official sources, with the source named. They are Cambridge's and Pearson's copyright and are available free through your school. A download library is not a service, it is an exposure.

Delivery is stated on the page

Muwaileh students are taught one-to-one over live video, in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes in Sharjah or anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is an India-only service. That belongs here, not in a conversation after booking.

Coverage limits published

The coverage table names where this pool is thin: 0606, 0478 pseudocode, 0452, and every subject in the eight weeks before a series. No competitor in the researched set discloses a coverage limit, which is why families discover them in April.

Every figure carries its source

AED bands on this page are attributed to the competitor or rate table they came from and the month they were read. No guaranteed grades, no satisfaction statistics, no star ratings, and no regulator approval claimed, because none is held.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Muwaileh: your questions answered

How do I find out which IGCSE syllabus code my child in Muwaileh is sitting?+

Email the school's exams officer and ask for the board, the code and the tier for each subject. Report cards say "Mathematics", which could be Cambridge 0580 at Core or Extended or Pearson 4MA1 at Foundation or Higher — four different exams with four different grade ceilings. Schools in this catchment enter both boards and sometimes split boards across subjects in one year group. Ask for the centre's own timetable in the same email, because Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six zones.

Does a Cambridge Core entry limit what my child can do afterwards?+

It caps the grade at C. That clears the Ministry of Education equivalency floor on the British track, which asks for five accredited IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3, so it does not block a UAE university application outright. It usually does fall short of what AS and A Level courses want in mathematics and the sciences, where an A or B at Extended is the normal expectation. If the entry has not yet been made, a tier conversation with marked evidence is worth having.

Do you send an IGCSE tutor to homes in Muwaileh?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Sharjah or anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Muwaileh students are taught one-to-one over live video, in Gulf Standard Time, with the past paper on a shared screen. The trade is explicit: you lose a person in the room and gain a tutor chosen for the syllabus code rather than for willingness to drive out past University City at six o'clock.

Are Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE actually different?+

Yes, and the differences change tutoring. Cambridge Mathematics 0580 is tiered Core and Extended with Paper 4 heavily weighted; Pearson 4MA1 is tiered Foundation and Higher with two papers of equal weight, so a pacing error on the first paper cannot be recovered. Cambridge science centres choose between a practical paper and an alternative-to-practical written paper. English set texts and anthologies differ entirely, so a year of literature revision does not transfer between boards.

How is science practical work assessed if my child studies with an online tutor?+

The assessment is set by the board and the centre, not by the tutor. A Cambridge centre uses either a timetabled practical paper or an alternative-to-practical written paper, and that choice decides what preparation is needed: apparatus handling and observation recording for one, interpreting someone else's experiment on paper for the other. Online tutoring prepares both — the second particularly well, since it is a written skill. Ask your head of science which route the centre uses.

When are the IGCSE exam series for students in Sharjah?+

Cambridge runs IGCSE in June and November. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November. The February/March Cambridge series is offered to India only and is not available to UAE candidates, so any plan built around it is wrong for your child's country. Pearson's November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026 with results in January; November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Work from the live timetable your exams officer issues.

How many past papers should my child actually do?+

Fewer than most families expect, done properly. Three papers marked against the published scheme, with an error log naming the recurring loss, beats twenty papers skimmed. The log is the deliverable: unshown method on multi-mark questions, dropped units in titration arithmetic, mark-scheme vocabulary replaced by paraphrase, a command term misread. Once the loss is named, the work becomes specific. Papers worked through without marking against the scheme mostly rehearse the same error.

How much cheaper is starting IGCSE support in Year 10 than in Year 11?+

Substantially, and the arithmetic is not close. A content gap that takes six sessions in Year 10 takes around fifteen in the spring of Year 11, because the student is then revising seven or eight other subjects in the same evenings. Year 10 is also the only point at which a tier conversation is still live, and a tier change supported by marked work is worth more than any amount of Year 11 remediation. Early tutoring is cheaper by a factor, not a margin.

My child is in Year 11 already. What is the best use of the time left?+

Prioritise ruthlessly: two subjects at most, chosen by where marks are recoverable rather than where the grades look worst. Work from marked papers instead of the syllabus, because a full re-teach is not available and pretending otherwise burns the term. Keep an error log across papers and attack the recurring loss specifically. In the last eight weeks switch to full papers sat to time. Accept that some subjects will be managed rather than improved.

Which IGCSE subjects are hardest to find a tutor for in Sharjah?+

Cambridge Additional Mathematics 0606, Computer Science 0478 taught to the syllabus's own pseudocode conventions rather than Python, Accounting 0452, and IGCSE Arabic as a first language. Beyond subject, timing creates its own scarcity: in the eight weeks before a series almost every specialist slot is taken, so a tutor free in October may not be free in April at six o'clock Gulf Standard Time. Families who book the exam-season hour in the autumn keep it.

Should a Muwaileh tutor be handing us mark schemes to download?+

They should not host a download library of them. Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables belong to Cambridge and Pearson, and are available free through your school and the boards' own channels. The legitimate approach is working through official material in session, with the source named, so you can find it yourself. A service distributing board material is handling someone else's copyright, and for unreleased material it is worse than that.

Does a tutor in Sharjah need a MoHRE permit, and can I check?+

Yes, and you can ask. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers school and government-sector teachers, private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and students aged 15 to 18. Those tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no schedule of amounts is published. Because the permit is free, there is no innocent reason for a working tutor to be without it.

What should a tutor do about Arabic alongside my child's IGCSE subjects?+

Establish the stream first. KHDA's mandatory-subject guidelines require separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and prohibit combined classes because the curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. Material for one route does not serve the other. Work goes through the school's own material, since for mandatory subjects the use of different or additional content without prior Ministry of Education permission is strictly prohibited.

How will I know in six weeks whether this is working?+

By reading marked work for the loss you named at the start. Before the block begins, get the failure mode in writing — unshown method, dropped units, mark-scheme vocabulary missing, a command term misread. Six weeks later, look at the next marked paper or school assessment for that specific loss. If it has shifted, the match is right. If it has not, change the plan or the tutor. Sessions that feel useful while the same marks disappear is the costliest pattern in this market.

Get the code, then take a trial lesson

If you are weighing up an IGCSE home tutor in Muwaileh, the first move is not choosing a tutor. It is one email to your school's exams officer asking for the board, the syllabus code, the tier and the practical route. With those four facts and your child's last marked paper, any tutor worth paying can tell you what the next month should do. Take a free trial session over live video at a time that survives the dismissal window, and judge it on whether the diagnosis is specific.
