IB Home Tutor in Aljada: Why the Answer Is the Same in Al Zahia and Muwaileh

Families comparing an IB home tutor in Aljada with the same search for Al Zahia or Muwaileh find the differences are real but small: a few minutes of commute, a different school gate, a newer set of streets. What does not change across those three communities is the depth of the Diploma tutor pool in Sharjah, and that is the thing that decides a grade. IB Gram teaches Aljada students one-to-one over live video.

  • Tutors matched to IB subject and level, not to a postcode
  • Criterion descriptors read with the student before any drafting
  • Sessions in Gulf Standard Time around the inland Sharjah school run

IB & IGCSE in Aljada

Three communities, one constraint

Aljada, Al Zahia and Muwaileh sit within a few minutes of each other in inland Sharjah, and a parent in any of them searching for an IB home tutor is effectively running the same search. The differences between the three are genuine. Aljada is newer, still filling, with its own school provision arriving in stages. Al Zahia is villa and townhouse housing with established routes to the Muwaileh campuses. Muwaileh itself holds the large school buildings and the dismissal traffic that comes with them.

Those differences change the commute by minutes, the school gate by a few hundred metres, and the time at which a household is settled enough to start a session. They do not change the thing that actually decides whether tutoring works, which is whether anyone in reach teaches your child's Diploma subject at your child's level and knows how it is marked.

That constraint is regional rather than local. The International Baccalaureate accounted for 7 per cent of Dubai's private-school students in 2024-25, against 37 per cent on UK curricula and 26 per cent Indian, across 227 private schools offering 17 different curricula. IB provision in Sharjah is concentrated in a small number of continuum schools, and the specialist tutoring pool that follows a qualification is proportional to it. Moving from Aljada to Al Zahia does not increase the number of people who have taught Higher Level Chemistry Internal Assessments.

This matters because the instinct when a search returns little is to widen the radius. Widening the radius in inland Sharjah adds commute and adds almost no specialists, which is a bad trade. Widening the pool instead — the same tutor, reached over live video — adds specialists and no commute at all.

There is a reason to be explicit about this rather than write three cheerful neighbourhood pages. A page that invents a local specialist network is selling something nobody has, and a parent discovers the invention in the week the Internal Assessment is due. Stating where the real constraint sits lets a family plan around it a term early instead.

So this page is built as a comparison rather than a neighbourhood tour. It sets out what genuinely differs between Aljada and the communities around it, what genuinely does not, and then spends its length on the Diploma itself: where points come from, where they leak, what the core components need, and what a tutor may and may not do with work the student must own.

On delivery, plainly: IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE. In-home visits are a service offered only in India. Aljada students are taught one-to-one over live video, in Gulf Standard Time, with the draft or past paper on a shared screen. The argument for it here is specific rather than general — in a community where the school provision is still arriving, the tutoring should not also be waiting on local supply.

At a glance

  • Aljada, Al Zahia and Muwaileh differ by commute, not by tutor pool
  • IB was 7 per cent of Dubai private-school students in 2024-25; Sharjah provision is concentrated
  • Widening the radius adds travel and few specialists; widening the pool adds specialists
  • Diploma marking runs on lettered criteria that general subject tutors have not read
  • Aljada students are taught over live video, not at a UAE address
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Aljada households arrive at IB tutoring from three directions — a continuum school, a transfer in from a British curriculum, or a move between emirates mid-course — and each needs a different first month.

Diploma Programme

Six subjects across six groups, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, with Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service alongside. Points come from subject grades plus up to three from the Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay combination. Every subject carries an Internal Assessment marked against lettered criteria whose marks are added separately rather than pooled.

UAE schools sit the May session. No Diploma exam or results date appears on this page: the IB's own site blocks automated checking, and a date a family plans around has to be right, so take every one from your school's IB coordinator. What is locally fixed is that Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies run alongside the Diploma in UAE private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum.

MYPAges 11–16 · Years 7–11

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups, four criteria per subject scored 0–8 and converted to a 1–7 grade by published boundaries. Process, communication and reflection are credited explicitly, which is why a capable student can sit at a 4 with correct work and an empty justification criterion. A tutor unable to name the four criteria for the subject is working from a general subject plan rather than the assessment.

For families in a newly built community, the MYP question often arrives alongside a school move. A child transferring into an MYP year group from a British curriculum meets criterion-based marking for the first time and the first report looks worse than the learning is. A short diagnostic on the criteria, rather than on content, is the useful intervention in that first term.

PYPAges 3–12 · Foundation to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-led, with no external examinations, which is why it rarely appears in tutoring searches. Where it does matter in a community like Aljada is continuity: a family planning a continuum route through to the Diploma is making a school decision now that shapes which assessment system their child meets at 11 and at 16.

Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools — four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate — creating 16,846 new places, after six new schools opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6 per cent. New communities across the region are where that expansion lands, so provision in a place like Aljada is a moving picture rather than a fixed one.

The A Level alternative

The route many Sharjah schools offer instead of the Diploma, and often the comparison a family in a new community is actually making. Three or four subjects in depth, no Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge, and a narrower profile. A student strong in two subjects and weak in languages usually does better here; one who wants breadth and a wide university list usually does better on the Diploma.

Ministry of Education equivalency rules are published for the British track — five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3, Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that five, plus one subject at Advanced Level at grade E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level. The sourced article states no IB points threshold, so no Diploma equivalency figure should be published without a Ministry page to cite.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The Diploma subjects Aljada families most often need, each with the component or criterion that decides the grade. These are the same subjects an Al Zahia or Muwaileh family needs, from the same pool.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Higher Level Paper 3 is an extended investigation rather than a question set, and it is the most common reason a predicted grade falls. The exploration is marked on communication, presentation, reasoning and personal engagement, and the last of those is routinely left empty by strong mathematicians.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Statistics, modelling and technology-permitted work throughout, frequently misread as the easier route rather than the different one. The exploration rewards genuine collected data, which is a planning decision made in week one and not recoverable later.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Energetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms carry the grade, with marks for state symbols, conditions and reasoning between steps. The Internal Assessment credits the student's own research question and method design; producing the textbook value earns nothing in itself.

Physics

HL and SL

Higher Level adds depth on shared topics and that additional material is where candidates separate. Extended responses reward stating the physical principle before the calculation. The Internal Assessment credits design and uncertainty handling rather than accuracy of result.

Biology

HL and SL

Command terms do most of the damage. Outline, describe, explain, distinguish and discuss expect different structures and mark counts, and a student answering them identically settles near a 5 whatever they know. Data questions on unfamiliar experiments are trainable and seldom trained.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagrams are credited piece by piece — axes, shift direction, new equilibrium stated — so a remembered sketch loses marks before the explanation begins. The Internal Assessment is commentaries on published articles, and choosing an article with no diagram-able economics in it locks in a low mark.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

The Individual Oral and the Paper 1 unseen analysis move most under tutoring. Marks go to analysis of how meaning is constructed rather than to summary. Higher Level adds the essay, assessed on sustained argument rather than coverage.

Business Management

HL and SL

Application to the named organisation decides the band; a textbook-correct answer with no reference to the case sits at the bottom. Higher Level carries extension topics and a longer Paper 2. The Internal Assessment needs real organisational data, and sourcing it is the first real task.

Arabic and the mandatory UAE subjects

Language A, language acquisition and ab initio

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies run alongside the Diploma in UAE private schools. Separate streams exist for Arab and non-Arab students because expectations and the language of instruction differ, so material from one route does not serve the other.

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay

Core components

Worth up to three points between them and routinely under-supported. TOK is assessed through an exhibition and an essay on a prescribed title; the Extended Essay is an independent 4,000-word piece with a school supervisor. Both are coached through feedback on the student's own drafts and never written for them.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three arrangements, all delivered over live video for UAE students. Which one fits depends on how far into the Diploma your child is, not on which of these communities you live in.

Subject slot at a named level

One Diploma subject at Higher or Standard Level, one fixed hour weekly held for the term. Matched to the level because the papers and Internal Assessment expectations differ with it. Suited to a student whose loss is diagnosable from a marked piece of work.

  • Same tutor weekly, slot held rather than renegotiated
  • Criterion descriptors read together before drafting
  • Past-paper questions worked live on a shared screen
  • A short written note naming the next step

Core components block

Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay support as feedback cycles against the published criteria. These carry up to three Diploma points between them and are the components families in new communities most often find nobody local for. Nothing is written for the student at any point.

  • Prescribed title unpacked before the essay is planned
  • Feedback on the student's own draft only
  • Mapped to the school supervisor's internal deadlines
  • Ends at submission

School-move diagnostic

A short block for a student who has changed school or system — common in a community still filling — where the first report looks worse than the learning is. The work is on the assessment architecture rather than content, because that is where the apparent drop comes from.

  • Four to six sessions, bounded rather than open-ended
  • Criteria and command terms practised against published expectations
  • Specific algebra, functions and proof work for Diploma mathematics
  • Reviewed against the school's first real assessment

Aljada against Al Zahia and Muwaileh: what actually differs

Worth doing this honestly rather than pretending each community is a distinct educational world. The differences across these three are operational, and they affect when a session can run and what an in-home visit would cost, not what is being taught.

Aljada's distinguishing feature is that it is still becoming itself. School provision is arriving in stages, which means a proportion of households are travelling to the established campuses in Muwaileh and University City, and a proportion are new to Sharjah entirely and have nobody local to ask about tutors. That second point is underrated: in an established neighbourhood the first tutor recommendation comes from a neighbour, and in a new one it comes from a search result.

Al Zahia's distinguishing feature is housing type. Villas and townhouses with gate security and driveways make an in-home visit slightly simpler to execute than a tower visit, which is why the in-home premium reads as marginally better value here. It does not change who is available to visit.

Muwaileh's distinguishing feature is the gates themselves. Several large campuses release into the same roads in a narrow window, so proximity to school is offset by dismissal congestion, and a household twenty minutes away by map is thirty-five minutes away at 2.45pm.

Set against those three differences is one similarity that outweighs all of them: the list of people who have taught Higher Level Diploma Chemistry, or coached an Economics commentary, or marked against Theory of Knowledge criteria, is the same list in all three communities. It is a short list, and it is short for regional rather than local reasons.

02

Why the specialist pool does not grow when you widen the radius

The instinct when a local search returns nothing is to search a wider area. It is the right instinct for a plumber and the wrong one for a Diploma tutor, and the reason is arithmetic.

Specialist supply follows qualification share. International Baccalaureate students were 7 per cent of Dubai's private-school population in 2024-25, against 37 per cent on UK curricula and 26 per cent Indian, across 227 schools offering 17 curricula. Sharjah's IB provision is concentrated in a handful of continuum schools. So the population of people who have actually taught a Higher Level Diploma science in this emirate is small in absolute terms, and it does not distribute itself evenly across communities waiting to be found.

Adding fifteen minutes of radius from Aljada reaches Al Zahia, Muwaileh and University City. It adds a meaningful number of capable content tutors — University City's undergraduate supply is real, and published budget rates of AED 33 to AED 150 an hour reflect it. It adds almost no Diploma assessment specialists, because they were never there to begin with.

Adding a wider pool instead changes the arithmetic entirely. The same specialist, reached over live video, is available to Aljada, Al Zahia and Muwaileh equally, at the market's online band of AED 150 to AED 300 an hour rather than the AED 180 to AED 500 that in-home visits command with travel inside the figure.

This is also why the answer on this page is the same as the answer on the equivalent page for the next community over. Not because the pages are interchangeable, but because the constraint being described is regional. A page that pretended Aljada had its own private supply of Theory of Knowledge coaches would be inventing something to sell.

03

Where Diploma points actually come from

Families comparing tutoring options often have no clear picture of where the 45 points are earned, which makes it hard to judge whether a tutoring plan is sensibly targeted. Worth laying out, because the answer tells you what to buy.

Six subjects contribute a grade from 1 to 7 each, giving 42, and the Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay combination contributes up to 3 more. Within each subject, the Internal Assessment is a fixed share of the grade and is marked against lettered criteria whose marks are added separately rather than pooled — which is why a mathematically flawless exploration with no personal engagement loses those marks outright and nothing else compensates.

That structure has a practical consequence for how tutoring money should be allocated. A student two marks below a boundary in one subject is a different problem from a student whose Internal Assessments are all mid-band across six subjects. The first is a subject problem. The second is an assessment-literacy problem, and it is cheaper to fix because the same skill transfers across all six.

The core components are the most commonly neglected part of the structure and the easiest to improve from a low base. A student who has not kept a reflection record for the Extended Essay, or who has not unpacked the prescribed Theory of Knowledge title before planning, is losing marks to process rather than to ability.

This is the section to read before deciding how many hours to buy and in what. A Diploma plan built subject by subject without looking at the pattern across subjects usually buys the same lesson six times.

The components nobody in a new community can help with

  • TOK is assessed through an exhibition and a prescribed-title essay
  • The commonest TOK fault is an undeveloped counter-perspective
  • Extended Essay reflection-record marks are the easiest to secure and most often lost
  • Feedback on the student's own draft only — never supplied text
  • Book core-component support a term ahead; availability is seasonal

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay are where families in a place like Aljada feel the thinness of local supply most sharply, because they are not subjects and almost nobody has taught them.

Theory of Knowledge is assessed through an exhibition and an essay written on one of the prescribed titles. The essay rewards engagement with knowledge questions and the development of more than one perspective, and the commonest failure is an essay that asserts a position and defends it without ever taking the counter-perspective seriously. That is a structural fault that a strong writer can commit cheerfully.

The Extended Essay is a 4,000-word independent piece with a school supervisor, assessed on focus, knowledge, analysis, discussion and presentation, plus engagement evidenced through a reflection record. The reflection record is the part students leave until the end, at which point it is a reconstruction rather than a record, and the marks for it are the easiest in the entire Diploma to secure honestly and the most commonly lost.

What legitimate support looks like for both: the title or research question interrogated before planning, the argument questioned, the student's own draft read against the published criteria with specific gaps named, and the reflection record kept from week one. What it never looks like is text supplied, paragraphs rewritten, or a draft edited to completion. IB rules treat submitted work that is not the candidate's own as malpractice, and the consequence falls on the candidate's diploma rather than on anyone else.

Because these components are seasonal as well as scarce, they are worth booking a term ahead. The supervisor's internal deadlines, not an external calendar, set the timeline — so the first step is finding out what those deadlines are.

05

The IGCSE or MYP to Diploma drop, and why it is not a decline

A large share of first enquiries from these communities describe the same event: a student with a strong IGCSE or Middle Years Programme record arrives in Diploma Year 1 and the first report is two grades worse. Parents reasonably read that as something going wrong.

Usually nothing has. The systems reward different things. IGCSE rewards accurate answers to bounded questions under time, and a student who is fast and precise does well. The Middle Years Programme credits process and communication through four criteria per subject, which is closer to the Diploma but marked more generously. The Diploma rewards justified reasoning on open questions and assesses that reasoning explicitly.

In mathematics the break is visible within a term. A student who scored top grades on Cambridge 0580 by being quick meets Analysis and Approaches, where Higher Level Paper 3 is an extended investigation, and finds that speed is not the skill being measured. In the sciences the shift is from the right answer to the reasoning that produced it. In the humanities it is from describing to evaluating.

The intervention that works is short and early: four to six sessions on assessment architecture — what the criteria reward, what a 7-standard paragraph looks like next to a 5-standard one, what each command term expects — before the content tutoring begins. Done in the first term it is a small piece of work. Done in Year 13 it is a rescue.

For a family that has just moved into a new community and changed school at the same time, this is worth separating from the move itself. A worse report after a transfer is usually assessment unfamiliarity rather than a settling problem, and the two have different fixes.

The mandatory UAE subjects alongside the Diploma

  • Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies run alongside the Diploma
  • Separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students are required; combined classes prohibited
  • Arabic and Islamic education are excluded from the British-track equivalency count of five
  • Substituting content for these subjects needs prior Ministry of Education permission
  • SPEA approves Sharjah fees, curricula, programmes and assessment methods

A Diploma student in Aljada is not only doing six IB subjects. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies run alongside the licensed international curriculum in UAE private schools and appear on the report with everything else. Almost no tutoring provider in this market addresses them at all.

The requirements are specific. KHDA's mandatory-subject guidelines require separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and state that combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because the curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. Standard Arabic is the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language; Social Studies is taught in Arabic for Arab students and in the school's licensed-curriculum language for non-Arabs.

Two consequences for tutoring follow. The stream is part of the match, because material written for the first-language route does not serve an additional-language student. And content is constrained: for the mandatory subjects, using different or additional content without prior Ministry of Education permission is strictly prohibited, so the work goes through the school's own material. KHDA calculates instructional time for these subjects on a 40-minute lesson unit and advises at least 25 minutes for any mandatory-subject lesson.

There is a checkable credential point here too. Schools are required to ensure that all teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic hold appropriate KHDA approval to teach those subjects, which is a real standard a parent can reasonably ask about at a school level.

The federal baseline behind all of it: private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, but must adhere to the Ministry's general regulations. Sharjah's own authority goes further than inspection — it approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods.

07

The permit, and what IB Gram is not

  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free and valid two years — ask whether it is held
  • University students and students aged 15 to 18 are among the eligible categories
  • No penalty schedule is published, so treat quoted fine figures as unverified
  • A Dubai tuition centre with premises needs a separate KHDA Educational Services Permit
  • IB Gram holds no regulator approval and operates no UAE office or centre

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit, and it is a reasonable question to put to anyone teaching your child weekly. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years.

Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. The application route is MoHRE's own private tutor licensing service, through the smart app, website and e-services system. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws; no schedule of amounts is published, so treat any figure quoted to you as unverified.

There is a related restriction worth knowing, press-reported rather than taken from the policy document itself: ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar Abu Dhabi private and charter school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE code of conduct carries a similar bar. Verify the exact wording against current policy before relying on it, but the principle holds — a teacher tutoring their own student is not a shortcut worth taking.

And the statement this page owes you. IB Gram is not approved, accredited, licensed by or partnered with SPEA, KHDA, ADEK, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and holds no educational services permit. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific licence issued to training institutes with premises in Dubai, with initial approval first and annual renewal requested at least 30 days before expiry. Naming a regulator here describes the system your child studies inside.

Nor does IB Gram operate an office, centre or branch in the UAE, and no named school on this page is a partner, client or endorser. Students we support attend schools across these communities; that is the whole of the relationship.

08

Starting from Aljada, and what to do if nobody is free

  • Marked work first, report card second
  • Ask the IB coordinator for the school's internal deadline calendar
  • 5.30pm or later from Aljada; 6pm with children at two schools
  • Thin specialisms get a wait or a different slot, never a substitute
  • Set the six-week review in writing before the first invoice

Begin with the last marked piece of work rather than the report. An Internal Assessment draft with comments, a marked paper or a teacher feedback sheet shows which criterion was empty or which command term was missed. A grade shows that something is wrong without saying what.

Send it with the subject and level, and ask your school's IB coordinator for the internal deadline calendar at the same time. Those internal deadlines, not an external exam date, are what a tutoring plan has to run against — particularly for Internal Assessments and the Extended Essay.

Then take a free trial session over live video, at a time that survives the inland Sharjah evening — in practice 5.30pm or later from Aljada, and 6pm where there are children at two schools. Judge the session on whether the tutor named a specific loss and said what the next four sessions would address.

If the specialism is thin — Higher Level sciences, Mathematics Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, Economics evaluation coaching, Theory of Knowledge — you should be told plainly rather than offered a substitute. The honest options are a different slot with the right tutor, that tutor over live video from another time zone, or a statement that it is not available this term. Availability is seasonal too, so an exam-season slot is booked in autumn.

Finally, agree the review point before the first paid session. Six weeks in, read the next marked piece for the loss you started with. If it has moved, continue. If it has not, change the plan or the tutor, which is a normal thing to do rather than a complaint.

Where we tutor

Aljada and the communities it is compared with

This is the comparison most Aljada families are actually running. The differences are operational rather than educational, and they are set out here so a tutoring plan can be built around the real evening rather than an imagined one.

Aljada

Arada's master-planned district south of Muwaileh, still filling, with school provision arriving in stages and the Madar leisure quarter at its centre. New households often have no local network to ask about tutors, which is why a search here starts from scratch.

Al Zahia

Villa and townhouse housing immediately west, with established routes to the Muwaileh campuses. Gate security and a driveway make an in-home visit marginally simpler here than in a tower district, which changes the cost arithmetic but not the specialist supply.

Muwaileh

Holds the large school buildings and the dismissal congestion along the Maliha Road corridor. Families here are nearest the gates and still rarely settled before 4.30pm when there are children at two schools.

University City

Sharjah's higher-education cluster to the north, and the reason local budget tutoring rates are genuinely lower than Dubai's. Useful for content catch-up; thin on Diploma assessment specialism, which is the distinction this page turns on.

Tilal City

Further out along the Sharjah–Dhaid corridor. The drive from here to the Muwaileh campuses is long enough that an in-home arrangement becomes impractical for a single weekly hour.

Sharjah Garden City

Inland towards Al Dhaid, with a very small pool of tutors prepared to travel. The clearest case in the emirate for choosing a tutor on subject and level rather than on distance.

Al Qasimia and the lagoon districts

Central and coastal Sharjah, with a different school mix and later session windows because many children attend Dubai schools and return through Al Mamzar. They compete for the same evening slots as the inland communities.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Aljada

Aljada, Al Zahia and Muwaileh

Students from the newer communities largely travel to the established Muwaileh and University City campuses while local provision arrives in stages. Both international and bilingual routes are represented, and IB continuum provision in Sharjah is concentrated in a small number of schools.

Central and coastal Sharjah

Established schools serving Al Qasimia, Al Majaz and Al Taawun, including continuum provision. Families in the inland communities sometimes travel across the emirate for a Diploma place, which is part of why session timing varies so much between neighbours.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send marked work and name the level

An Internal Assessment draft with comments, a marked paper or a feedback sheet, plus the subject and whether it is Higher or Standard Level. Those two facts are what let a tutor talk about a criterion or a command term rather than about confidence.

  2. 02

    Get the school's internal deadlines

Ask the IB coordinator for the internal calendar — Internal Assessment drafts, Extended Essay checkpoints, Theory of Knowledge submissions, mock windows. A tutoring plan that runs against an external exam date and ignores these is out of step with the school from week one.

  3. 03

    Ask the two IB questions

Name the criteria for this Internal Assessment and say what each rewards. Then: what will you refuse to do with my child's coursework? Neither answer can be bluffed, and together they separate a Diploma tutor from a capable subject tutor in about three minutes.

Take the free trial over live video

One session, no payment, at a time that survives an inland Sharjah evening — 5.30pm or later from Aljada. Judge it on whether the tutor named a specific loss and said what the next four sessions would cover, not on how the hour felt.

  5. 05

Agree a bounded block and a review date

A subject slot, a core components block, or a short school-move diagnostic, with the target written down. Six weeks later compare marked work against the starting point. If the named loss has not moved, the plan changes or the tutor does.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The comparison is made honestly

Aljada, Al Zahia and Muwaileh differ by commute and housing, not by Diploma tutor supply. Saying so is more useful to a parent than writing three pages that each claim a local specialist network nobody has.

Matched to subject and level

Higher and Standard Level are different courses with different papers and, in some subjects, different Internal Assessment expectations. Matching on "science" is how a Higher Level candidate ends up with a tutor learning the course alongside them.

Criteria before content

The first session on any Internal Assessment reads the published descriptors with the student, by letter, in their own words. A piece built around the wrong structure is a rewrite rather than an edit, so this order is not negotiable.

Coverage limits published

The thin specialisms are named — Higher Level sciences, Maths AA HL, Economics evaluation, Theory of Knowledge — because knowing them lets a family in a new community book a term ahead instead of discovering a gap in April.

Delivery stated on the page

Aljada students are taught one-to-one over live video, in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes in Sharjah or anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is an India-only service, and there is no UAE office or centre.

No claims that cannot be checked

No regulator approval, no unevidenced examiner status, no star ratings, no guaranteed grades, no satisfaction statistics. Every figure carries its source and the month it was read, and the IB dates that could not be verified are left off deliberately.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Aljada: your questions answered

Is it worth looking for a tutor in Muwaileh or Al Zahia rather than Aljada?+

For content help, slightly — those areas and University City have a larger local pool, and published budget rates of AED 33 to AED 150 an hour are genuinely available there. For Diploma assessment specialism, no. The pool of people who have actually taught a Higher Level Internal Assessment is small across the whole emirate, so fifteen extra minutes of radius adds travel and almost no specialists. Widening the pool over live video is the only move that reaches the specialism.

Does IB Gram send a tutor to homes in Aljada?+

No. IB Gram does not provide home visits in Sharjah or anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we offer only in India, and there is no UAE office or centre. Aljada students are taught one-to-one over live video, in Gulf Standard Time, with the draft or past paper on a shared screen. In a community where school provision is still arriving in stages, the practical point is that the tutoring does not also have to wait on local supply.

Why is IB tutoring harder to find than IGCSE tutoring in Sharjah?+

Because specialist supply follows qualification share. International Baccalaureate students were 7 per cent of Dubai's private-school population in 2024-25, against 37 per cent on UK curricula and 26 per cent Indian, across 227 private schools offering 17 curricula. Sharjah's IB provision is concentrated in a small number of continuum schools. So the number of people in this emirate who have taught a Diploma subject at Higher Level and marked against its criteria is small in absolute terms, not just locally.

How should I split tutoring hours across six Diploma subjects?+

Six subject grades of 1 to 7 give up to 42, and the Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay combination contributes up to 3 more. Inside each subject, the Internal Assessment is a fixed share of the grade and is marked against lettered criteria whose marks are added separately rather than pooled. That is why a mathematically flawless exploration with an empty personal engagement criterion loses those marks outright and strength elsewhere cannot compensate for them.

My child's Internal Assessments are all mid-band across six subjects. Is that six problems?+

Usually one. Six subjects each sitting mid-band suggests an assessment-literacy issue rather than six separate subject weaknesses — most often that descriptors are being read as a task description instead of a mark allocation. That is cheaper to fix than it looks, because the skill transfers across all six subjects once it is taught. A student two marks below a boundary in a single subject is the opposite case and should be treated as a subject problem.

What support is available for Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay?+

Feedback cycles against the published criteria: the prescribed title or research question interrogated before planning, the argument questioned, the student's own draft read against the descriptors with specific gaps named, and the reflection record kept from week one rather than reconstructed at the end. Those reflection marks are the easiest in the Diploma to secure honestly and the most commonly lost. What never happens is text being supplied, paragraphs rewritten or a draft edited to completion.

Should I worry that my child's grades dropped after moving school into the Diploma?+

Not immediately, and it is worth separating two things. A worse report after a transfer is often assessment unfamiliarity rather than a settling problem, and they have different fixes. The Diploma rewards justified reasoning on open questions and marks that reasoning explicitly through criteria and command terms, which a student arriving from a bounded-question system has never had to demonstrate. Four to six sessions on assessment architecture in the first term usually resolves what looks like a decline.

What time can a session start for a family in Aljada?+

Half past five at the earliest, and six o'clock where there are children at two schools. Students from Aljada largely travel to the established campuses in Muwaileh and University City, and dismissal congestion along the Maliha Road corridor is sharp because several large campuses release into the same roads in a narrow window. Slots are booked in Gulf Standard Time and held weekly, with most families moving to a post-Iftar time during Ramadan.

Is a villa community like Al Zahia better for in-home tutoring than Aljada?+

Marginally easier to execute — gate security and a driveway rather than visitor parking and a lift — which is why the in-home premium reads as slightly better value there. It changes nothing about who is available to visit. Market in-home rates run AED 180 to AED 500 an hour with travel inside the figure, against AED 150 to AED 300 online for a qualified tutor, and Bestimate's Dubai table puts the usual in-home case at AED 180 to AED 350. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE in any case.

Can a tutor help choose between Mathematics Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation?+

They can set out what each actually involves, which is the part most families lack. Analysis and Approaches is the algebra-and-proof route with Higher Level Paper 3 as an extended investigation, and it is what most engineering, mathematics and physics degrees expect. Applications and Interpretation is statistics, modelling and technology-permitted work throughout, and is different rather than easier. The decision should be checked against the entry requirements of the actual universities on your child's list.

What do Arabic and Islamic Education mean for a Diploma student in Sharjah?+

They run alongside the Diploma in UAE private schools and appear on the report with everything else. KHDA's guidelines require separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and prohibit combined classes because expectations and the language of instruction differ, so material for one route does not serve the other. Tutoring works through the school's own material, since substituting content for mandatory subjects needs prior Ministry of Education permission.

Do tutors working in Sharjah need a MoHRE permit?+

Yes. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, although no schedule of amounts is published. Since it is free, there is no innocent reason for a working tutor not to hold it.

Will my child be able to stay with the same tutor if we move within Sharjah?+

Yes, which is one of the quieter advantages of an online arrangement in communities that are still filling. Households in this part of the emirate move between Aljada, Al Zahia, Muwaileh and the newer developments reasonably often, and an in-home arrangement usually ends with the move because the travel stops working. A live-video slot survives it intact, including a move between emirates, as long as the session time still fits the new school day.

How soon should I expect to see something change?+

Name the loss before the block starts and look at it after four to six sessions. The useful markers are specific: an evaluation criterion that was empty now addressed, command terms answered to their own expectations, a reflection record actually being kept. Compare the next marked piece against the one you began with. If the named loss has shifted, continue. If it has not, change the plan or the tutor — that is a normal adjustment, not a complaint, and leaving it longer is how a Diploma year gets spent.

The same question, wherever you live inland

If you are weighing an IB home tutor in Aljada against the same search for Al Zahia or Muwaileh, the comparison matters less than it looks. The commute differs by minutes; the Diploma specialist pool does not differ at all. Send your child's last marked piece of work, ask the IB coordinator for the school's internal deadlines, and take a free trial session over live video at a time that survives the inland evening. Judge it on whether the tutor can name the criterion that cost the marks.
