IGCSE Home Tutor in Aljada: What Changes Next Door and What Does Not

A parent comparing an IGCSE home tutor in Aljada with the same search in Al Zahia, Muwaileh or Tilal City will find three things genuinely differ: what a home visit costs, which group classes exist nearby, and when a session can start. One thing does not differ at all, and it is the one that matters — who can teach your child's syllabus code. IB Gram teaches Aljada students online, one-to-one.

  • Tutors matched to the syllabus code and tier, not to a neighbourhood
  • In-home and group costs compared across three housing types
  • Sessions in Gulf Standard Time after the inland Sharjah school run
  • Board material worked through from official sources, never redistributed

IB & IGCSE in Aljada

What the comparison actually turns up

Families in Aljada run this comparison constantly, because the community is new enough that nothing is settled by local habit. Is tutoring easier to arrange in Al Zahia? Are the Muwaileh families getting something we are not? Is the group class in the next development worth the drive? These are sensible questions and they deserve a direct answer rather than a page that pretends every neighbourhood is special.

Three things genuinely differ across these communities. The first is what a home visit costs to execute: a villa in Al Zahia with gate security and a driveway is a simpler visit than an apartment block, and a tutor's travel time from the city into Aljada or out to Tilal City is longer than a hop within Muwaileh. The second is group provision, which clusters around established schools and leisure centres and is genuinely thinner where a community is still being built. The third is session timing, because dismissal congestion and distance from the Muwaileh campuses set when a household is actually settled.

One thing does not differ. The supply of people who can teach Cambridge Additional Mathematics 0606, or mark a 0478 pseudocode trace table the way the syllabus does, or coach Economics diagram technique at Extended tier, is the same small number whether you search from Aljada, Al Zahia or Muwaileh. That supply is set by how many people have ever taught those specific syllabuses in this emirate, and moving house does not change it.

This matters because the natural response to a thin search result is to widen the radius. Widening the radius in inland Sharjah adds commute and adds content tutors — University City's undergraduate supply is real, and published budget rates of AED 33 to AED 150 an hour reflect it — while adding almost no specialists. It is the wrong lever.

There is a second reason the answer converges. IGCSE content and assessment are set by Cambridge and Pearson, not by the emirate or the community. Your child sits the same 0625 paper as a candidate in Al Zahia, marked by the same scheme. Nothing about the street changes what has to be taught, which is why a tutor should be chosen on the code rather than on the drive.

So this page compares the things that really vary, prices them, and then spends its length on the parts of IGCSE a parent can act on: establishing the code and tier, reading a marked paper yourself, the entry and resit decisions, and the subject-availability question including the private-candidate route when a school does not offer something.

On delivery: IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE. In-home tutoring is offered only in India, and there is no UAE office or centre. Aljada students are taught one-to-one over live video, in Gulf Standard Time, with the past paper on a shared screen.

At a glance

  • Home-visit cost, group provision and session timing genuinely vary between these communities
  • Specialist syllabus supply does not vary — it is set emirate-wide
  • Cambridge and Pearson set the papers, not the neighbourhood
  • Widening the radius adds travel and content tutors, not specialists
  • Aljada students are taught over live video, not at a UAE address

Four qualifications sit behind an IGCSE search in this part of Sharjah, and which one applies is a question for the school rather than the tutor. The codes below are what to confirm before booking anything.

IGCSEAges 14–16 · Years 10–11

Cambridge IGCSE

Two years ending in terminal written papers, with tiered entry in several subjects: Core caps the grade at C, Extended reaches A*. Codes are four digits — 0580 Mathematics, 0606 Additional Mathematics, 0625 Physics, 0620 Chemistry, 0610 Biology, 0500 First Language English. On Extended Mathematics, Paper 4 carries the structured long questions that decide most grades, and method marks there depend on working being shown.

Cambridge runs IGCSE in June and November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint in March, May and October. The February/March series is offered to India only and does not apply to Sharjah candidates. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, says it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, and cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Codes beginning with 4 — 4MA1 Mathematics Specification A, 4PH1 Physics, 4CH1 Chemistry, 4BI1 Biology, 4EA1 English Language A. Mathematics Specification A is tiered Foundation and Higher, with two papers of equal weight, so a pacing error on the first paper cannot be made up on a shorter second one. Grades are reported 9 to 1 rather than A* to G, which trips up parents comparing reports across boards.

Pearson runs International GCSE in May/June and November. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, and results reached students in January — November 2025 results arrived on 22 January 2026. June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students the next day. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so work from the live official PDF.

CHECKPOINTAges 11–14 · Years 7–9

Cambridge Lower Secondary

The three years before IGCSE, ending in Checkpoint tests schools use for setting. A result that places a student in Core rather than Extended Mathematics sets the grade ceiling two years before the exam. In a community where families arrive mid-course from other systems, this placement is often made on limited evidence and is worth questioning early with marked work rather than opinion.

Families moving into a new Sharjah community frequently transfer schools and systems at the same time, and a tier placement made in the first term after a transfer carries the least evidence behind it. Ask the school what marked work would support a change, produce it, and have the conversation in Year 9 or early Year 10 while the entry has not yet been made.

AS/AAges 16–18 · Years 12–13

AS and A Level progression

Where most Sharjah IGCSE students go next, and the reason a Year 11 grade matters beyond itself. Subject entry usually assumes an A or B at Extended, and the step up in mathematics and the sciences is steep because A Level assumes algebraic fluency IGCSE only samples. Tutoring aimed at that progression targets the specific topics AS builds on rather than the pass mark.

Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track asks for five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or better or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. One ranking competitor states six IGCSE subjects; the sourced figure is five.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The IGCSE subjects families in these communities request most, with the specific place marks go. Use any line as an interview question — a tutor who knows the code can expand it without notes.

Mathematics — 0580 / 4MA1

Core and Extended · Foundation and Higher

Extended Paper 4 decides most grades through structured multi-mark questions on functions, transformations, vectors and probability. Working unshown on a four-mark item typically scores one. Pearson splits marks evenly across two papers, making pacing errors unrecoverable.

Additional Mathematics — 0606

Extended only

Calculus, logarithms and trigonometric identities that 0580 never reaches, taken alongside it by students heading for A Level Maths. Reading it as harder 0580 revision is the standard error, and the tutor pool for it is thin across the whole emirate.

Physics — 0625 / 4PH1

Core and Extended

Electricity and electromagnetism take most lost marks, usually when a potential divider is read as a plain series circuit. Six-mark items reward structured reasoning rather than recall, and the centre's practical route decides half the revision plan.

Chemistry — 0620 / 4CH1

Core and Extended

Mole arithmetic and organic pathways carry the grade. Units dropped mid-titration cost marks and a product named without its functional group scores nothing. Cambridge examines qualitative analysis tables in detail and those are the cheapest marks on the paper.

Biology — 0610 / 4BI1

Core and Extended

Volume rather than difficulty. Extended-response marks go to candidates using mark-scheme vocabulary — active transport, partially permeable, selective reabsorption — rather than paraphrase. Data questions on unfamiliar experiments separate the strong candidates.

English First Language — 0500 / 0990 / 4EA1

First Language

Directed writing is marked on audience, register and form as well as content, so fluent generic prose sits at C. Reading questions need quotation plus explanation. Set texts and anthologies differ by board, so revision does not transfer across a school move.

English as a Second Language — 0510 / 0511

Core and Extended

Common across Sharjah schools. The reading-and-writing paper rewards precise information transfer, and copying whole sentences into a note-taking grid loses marks. Speaking is separately assessed and usually the least prepared component.

Business Studies — 0450 / 4BS1

Extended

Case-study application is the whole paper: a correct definition with no reference to the named business sits in the bottom band. Evaluation questions carry the top marks and need a judgement with a reason — the most trainable skill in the syllabus.

Economics — 0455 / 4EC1

Extended

Diagram marks are awarded separately for axis labels, shift direction and the new equilibrium, so a remembered sketch loses three marks before the explanation starts. Gulf-context data questions appear regularly, which makes local examples useful revision.

Computer Science — 0478 / 4CP0

Extended

Pseudocode is marked against the syllabus's own conventions rather than Python, which costs marks on every trace table. Theory on data representation and networks is learnable and chronically under-revised while students spend their time coding.

Accounting — 0452 / 4AC1

Extended

Format marks are free and routinely discarded: a balanced trial balance with the wrong headings loses presentation marks. Accruals, prepayments and depreciation adjustments are the recurring failure, and the fix is full timed questions rather than topic revision.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three arrangements worth comparing properly, because the cost differences between them are larger than the differences between neighbourhoods. All are delivered over live video for UAE students.

One-to-one weekly slot

One subject, one code, one fixed hour a week. Priced in this market at AED 150 to AED 300 an hour online for a qualified tutor. What it buys over a group is diagnosis: the hour addresses your child's specific recurring loss rather than the syllabus's average needs.

  • Matched to the confirmed code and tier
  • Mark scheme open in the session, not referenced afterwards
  • Slot held weekly in Gulf Standard Time
  • Short written note naming the next step

Small group of two to four

Genuinely cheaper at AED 90 to AED 180 per student per hour in this market, and genuinely effective where the students are at the same school, the same board and the same tier. Across tiers it fails, because Core and Extended questions diverge sharply in the second half of the syllabus.

  • Same board, same code, same tier — no exceptions worth making
  • Works best for broad revision rather than individual misconceptions
  • One shared error log so the hour stays targeted
  • Over live video, so the group need not live near each other

Exam-window intensive

A compressed block in the eight to twelve weeks before the series, built on full papers sat to time and marked against the published scheme. Costs more per month and less in total than a year of weekly hours, and suits a student whose content is sound but whose pacing collapses.

  • Full papers to time, marked against official schemes
  • Zone-correct timetable used to build the pacing plan
  • Scheduled around Ramadan and the school's mock window
  • Ends at the exam rather than rolling on

IB and IGCSE tutors available to students in Aljada

Each tutor is listed against a syllabus code and tier — Cambridge 0580 Extended, Pearson 4CH1, 0606 Additional Mathematics — because that is the unit of the job. A family in Aljada and a family in Muwaileh asking for the same code are choosing from exactly the same list.

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Aljada

01

What a home visit costs in a villa, an apartment and a new development

This is the first of the three real differences, and it is worth pricing rather than describing. The in-home premium is a tutor's travel time converted into an hourly rate, and travel time is a function of distance plus the friction at the other end.

In Al Zahia, a villa or townhouse with gate security and a driveway is the cheapest friction available: the tutor arrives, is let through, and parks. In an apartment district, the same visit adds visitor parking that may be full, a security desk and a lift. In Aljada or Tilal City, the friction is lower but the distance is greater, because most tutors are coming from the established parts of the emirate.

The market numbers reflect all of it. In-home one-to-one runs AED 180 to AED 500 an hour with travel inside the figure, Bestimate's Dubai rate table placing the usual range at AED 180 to AED 350, against AED 150 to AED 300 for a qualified tutor working online. Monthly packages seen in this market run around AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits.

Across a twelve-week term at one subject, the premium is roughly AED 1,500 to AED 2,000 — close to the full cost of a second subject taught online. And the erosion is not only financial: a session that starts twenty minutes late either runs short or pushes the rest of the evening back, which in an exam year is the scarcest thing in the house.

For completeness, IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE at all; in-home tutoring is an India-only service. The comparison is here because it is the comparison parents are running, and it deserves real numbers rather than a dismissal.

Group classes: the one option that really does depend on where you live

Group tuition is the genuine exception to this page's argument. Unlike specialist one-to-one supply, group provision is physical: it needs a room, a timetable and enough students within a short drive to fill it. That clusters around established schools and commercial districts, and it is thinner where a community is still being built.

In practice that means a Muwaileh family has walkable or short-drive options, an Al Zahia family has a drive, and an Aljada or Tilal City family is often looking at a journey that turns a 90-minute class into a three-hour evening commitment. That journey is a second school run, in the evening, on the roads the first one used.

Group tuition is also genuinely cheaper, at AED 90 to AED 180 per student per hour in this market against AED 150 to AED 300 one-to-one, and genuinely effective for a particular job: broad revision across a syllabus for students who are roughly together in ability, board and tier.

Where it fails is individual misconceptions, because the group moves at the syllabus's pace rather than the student's. If your child's problem is that they do not show working on multi-mark questions, a group will not catch it. And mixing tiers wastes one student's hour entirely, because Core and Extended questions diverge sharply by the second half of the course.

Online small groups remove the geography from this trade-off, which is the useful part for a family in a newer community: two or three students at the same school, board and tier can share a tutor and a rate without anyone driving. The condition is the match — same code, same tier, no exceptions worth making.

How to read your child's marked paper without knowing the subject

  • Ignore the total; read where the marks went
  • Note the command term on every lost mark
  • Blank spaces mean content; wrong answers mean understanding; no working means habit
  • Repeated topic losses mean topic teaching; scattered losses mean technique
  • Bring your own reading to the first tutor conversation

This is the most useful skill a parent in any of these communities can acquire, and it takes twenty minutes. It is also the thing that makes every subsequent conversation with a tutor shorter and cheaper.

Take the marked paper and ignore the total. Go to each place where a mark was lost and note the first word of the question: calculate, describe, explain, state, suggest, compare, evaluate. Then note whether the student wrote something and got it wrong, or wrote nothing, or wrote an answer with no working.

Patterns appear quickly and they point at different problems. Losses clustered on explain and suggest while calculate and state scored means the content is present and the command terms are not being answered — a technique problem, four to six sessions. Losses spread evenly with blank spaces means content gaps, which is what a cheaper content tutor is genuinely good for. Correct final answers with no working on multi-mark questions means method marks are being thrown away, which is a habit, not a knowledge gap.

One more pass: look for repeated topics. Three losses in electricity on a 0625 paper is a topic problem. One loss each across six topics is not. This single distinction changes whether you should be buying topic teaching or paper technique, and it is the distinction most tutoring arrangements get wrong at the start.

Bring that reading to the first conversation. A tutor who agrees with your diagnosis and adds detail to it is worth hiring. A tutor who replies that your child needs more practice and more confidence has not looked at the paper.

Entry, tier and the November resit decision

  • June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026
  • Pearson November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026
  • Cambridge's February/March series is India-only, so November is the Sharjah resit route
  • Cambridge assigns every centre to one of six timetable zones

Three decisions in the IGCSE year are made by adults rather than by revision, and all three are easier to get right with notice. They are tier of entry, the subjects entered at all, and whether to resit.

Tier is the largest. Cambridge Core entry caps the grade at C, which clears the Ministry of Education equivalency floor of grade E or 3 on the British track but usually falls short of what AS and A Level courses expect in mathematics and the sciences. The entry is made months before the papers, so a tier conversation has to happen before that deadline, supported by marked work at the higher standard rather than by a request.

Subject entry matters where a school does not offer something a student needs. Equivalency on the British track asks for five accredited IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that five, so a student short of five accredited subjects has a real problem to solve rather than a preference. In that situation the private-candidate route exists, through a centre that accepts external entries, and the school's exams officer is the person who can explain what it involves.

The resit decision arrives suddenly. A June grade that misses an AS requirement has a November route, but the entry window is short — days rather than weeks after results. Families who have already asked the exams officer what a resit entry involves make that call calmly; families who have not spend results week guessing while the deadline moves.

All three conversations are with the school, not with a tutor. What a tutor contributes is the marked evidence that makes the tier conversation possible, and the plan that makes a resit worth entering.

Subject availability, and what happens when a school does not offer one

Availability has two faces in a community like this. One is tutor availability, which is emirate-wide and thin for specific syllabuses. The other is school availability — whether your child's school teaches the subject at all — and that genuinely does vary between campuses.

Smaller schools and newer ones run narrower IGCSE offers. Additional Mathematics 0606, Accounting 0452, Computer Science 0478 and Economics 0455 are the usual casualties, because each needs a specialist teacher and a viable class size. A student who needs one of those for a university route may find it is not on the school's list.

There are three routes from there and only one of them is quick. The school may add the subject if enough students want it, which is a multi-term conversation. The student may sit it as a private candidate through a centre that accepts external entries, which the exams officer can explain and which requires the teaching to be arranged separately. Or the student plans around the gap, which is sometimes the right answer and should be a decision rather than a default.

Tutor availability for those same subjects is the thin part of this market. Cambridge 0606, 0478 taught to the syllabus's own pseudocode conventions, 0452, and IGCSE Arabic as a first language are narrow pools anywhere in the emirate, and in the eight weeks before a series almost every specialist slot is taken.

When a match is not available at the hour you need, the honest options are a different slot with the right specialist, that specialist over live video from another time zone, or a plain statement that it is not available this term. A general science tutor in front of an 0606 candidate is not a match, whatever it is called on the invoice.

Past papers, mark schemes and what a tutor may hand over

  • Official papers worked through in session with the source cited: legitimate
  • A download library of board mark schemes: not legitimate
  • Three papers properly marked beat twenty skimmed
  • The error log is the deliverable, in the student's own words
  • Feedback as comments, never as edits in the document

Past-paper work is the centre of effective IGCSE tutoring and the place where a careless provider creates a real problem for themselves and for you.

Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes, grade-boundary tables and subject guides belong to Cambridge and Pearson. They are available free through your school and through the boards' own channels. The legitimate approach is to work through official material in session with the source named, so a family can find it again. A tutoring service hosting a download library of board material is distributing someone else's copyright, and for unreleased material the exposure is worse than copyright.

The useful version of past-paper work is narrower than most families expect. Three papers marked against the published scheme, with a one-page error log naming the recurring loss, beats twenty papers skimmed. The log is the deliverable, and it should be in the student's own words — "I write the answer without working on anything worth three or more marks" is actionable the next morning; "careless mistakes" is not.

On coursework, where a centre runs a component with one: a tutor teaches the skill, explains the criteria and gives feedback on the student's own draft. A tutor does not write it, complete it or supply model text. One operator in this market sells finished Internal Assessments outright at a published price, and the consequence of using that falls on the candidate rather than the seller.

A practical safeguard for either system: ask for feedback as spoken comments or margin notes rather than as edits inside the document. It removes the ambiguity entirely and it costs nothing.

07

SPEA, the permit and the mandatory subjects

  • SPEA approves Sharjah fees, curricula, programmes and assessment methods
  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free and valid two years — ask whether it is held
  • No penalty schedule is published, so quoted fine figures are unverified
  • Arabic and Islamic education are excluded from the equivalency count of five
  • IB Gram holds no regulator approval and operates no UAE office

Three pieces of local context a parent in Aljada should have, none of which any competitor page in this market supplies.

First, the regulator. Sharjah's private schools are regulated by the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which regulates private education in the emirate, and its remit extends past inspection: Sharjah's authority approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. That is why a school's subject offer in this emirate can differ from a Dubai school's a short drive away.

Second, the permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. Those tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no schedule of amounts is published, so treat a quoted figure as unverified. Because it is free, there is no innocent reason for a working tutor to be without it.

Third, the mandatory subjects. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies run alongside the licensed curriculum in UAE private schools. KHDA's guidelines require separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and prohibit combined classes because expectations and the language of instruction differ, so material for one stream does not serve the other. Substituting content for these subjects without prior Ministry of Education permission is strictly prohibited.

And the disclosure this page owes: IB Gram is not approved, accredited, licensed by or partnered with SPEA, KHDA, ADEK, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and operates no office, centre or branch in the UAE. Students we support attend schools across these communities; that is the extent of the relationship.

Starting from Aljada

  • One email settles board, code, tier, practical route and timetable zone
  • Read the marked paper yourself before any conversation
  • 5.30pm or later from Aljada; 6pm with children at two schools
  • Agree the target and the six-week review before the first invoice
  • Agree how a tutor change is handled before you need one

Four steps, in this order, and the first two are free.

Email the school's exams officer for the board, the syllabus code, the tier and — for science — the practical route, plus the centre's own exam timetable. Then read the last marked paper using the method in this page: command terms on the lost marks, blank spaces against wrong answers, repeated topics against scattered ones. Those two pieces of work together tell you what you are buying before you talk to anybody.

Then take a free trial session over live video, at a time that survives an inland Sharjah evening — 5.30pm or later from Aljada, 6pm with children at two schools. Judge the session on whether the tutor agreed with or improved on your reading of the paper and said specifically what the next four sessions would cover.

Then agree a bounded block with a written target and a review date. Market monthly packages start around AED 799 for eight online sessions; agree what the block is meant to fix before the first invoice rather than after the third. Six weeks later, read the next marked paper for the same loss.

And agree in advance what happens if the match is wrong, because mismatches are common and say nothing about either the student or the tutor. An arrangement that changes the tutor without argument is worth more than a slightly cheaper rate.

One last practical point for a household that has recently moved in. If the school change and the tutoring enquiry are happening in the same term, keep them separate in your own mind. A worse report after a transfer is often unfamiliarity with a new board's question style rather than a learning problem, and the two need different responses.

Where we tutor

The communities Aljada families actually compare

These are the neighbourhoods in the comparison, described by the things that change a tutoring arrangement rather than by their amenities.

Aljada

Master-planned and still filling, south of Muwaileh, with the Madar quarter at its centre and school provision arriving in stages. New households have little local tutoring network, so arrangements here start from a search rather than a recommendation.

Al Zahia

Villas and townhouses immediately west, with gate security and driveways. The simplest of these communities for an in-home visit to execute, which shifts the cost comparison without changing who is available.

Muwaileh

Holds the large school campuses and the dismissal congestion along the Maliha Road corridor. The strongest local tutoring network of the three, and the shortest walk to a group class.

University City

Sharjah's higher-education cluster to the north, and the source of the emirate's genuinely cheaper budget tutoring band. Strong for content catch-up, thin on Extended-tier mark-scheme technique.

Tilal City

Further out along the Sharjah–Dhaid corridor. Travel time makes a single weekly in-home hour impractical, and group provision is thinner again, which narrows the real options to one.

Sharjah Garden City

Inland towards Al Dhaid, with the smallest pool of tutors willing to travel anywhere in the emirate. The clearest case for choosing on syllabus code rather than distance.

Al Qasimia and the lagoon districts

Central and coastal Sharjah with a different school mix, and later usable session times because many children attend Dubai schools and return through Al Mamzar. They compete for the same evening slots.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Aljada

Aljada, Al Zahia and Muwaileh

Students from the newer communities largely travel to the established Muwaileh and University City campuses while local provision arrives in stages. Both Cambridge and Pearson entries appear across this cluster, and some schools split boards between subjects within a year group.

Central and coastal Sharjah

Established British and Indian curriculum schools serving Al Qasimia, Al Majaz and Al Taawun. Families inland sometimes travel across the emirate for a place, which is why session windows vary so much between neighbouring households.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Email the exams officer for four facts

Board, syllabus code, tier and the practical route in science, plus the centre's own timetable. One message, usually answered inside a day, and it decides which past-paper archive and which tutor are relevant before any money moves.

  2. 02

    Read the marked paper yourself

Ignore the total. Note the command term on each lost mark, whether the space was blank or wrong, and whether losses repeat in one topic. Twenty minutes of this makes every later conversation shorter and tells you whether to buy content or technique.

  3. 03

Take the free trial over live video

One session, no payment, at a time that survives an inland Sharjah evening. Judge it on whether the tutor agreed with or sharpened your reading of the paper and named what the next four sessions would cover.

  4. 04

Pick the format on the diagnosis, not the price

A named recurring loss needs one-to-one. Broad revision with students at the same board and tier can be a small group at AED 90 to AED 180 each. Content gaps can be filled at content prices. Buying the cheapest format for the wrong job is the expensive choice.

  5. 05

Set the review and the exit

Agree what the block is meant to fix, when you will check it, and how a tutor change is handled if the match is wrong. Six weeks later, compare marked papers for the same loss. If it has not moved, change something.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The comparison is answered with numbers

Home-visit friction, group rates and session timing genuinely differ between Aljada, Al Zahia, Muwaileh and Tilal City, and this page prices them. The specialist pool does not differ, and saying so is more useful than three pages each claiming a local network.

Matched to code and tier

Cambridge 0580 Extended, Pearson 4MA1 Higher and Additional Mathematics 0606 are three different jobs, and tier changes the content range as well as the ceiling. The first question asked is which board and code the school enters.

Group tuition is treated honestly

It is cheaper and it is genuinely effective for broad revision where board and tier match. It cannot fix an individual misconception, and mixing tiers wastes a student's hour. Both facts are on the page because the cheaper option is sometimes the right one.

Board material is cited, never redistributed

Past papers and mark schemes are worked through in session from official sources with the source named. They are Cambridge's and Pearson's copyright and are free through your school. A download library is not a service.

Delivery stated plainly

Aljada students are taught one-to-one over live video, in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes in Sharjah or anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is an India-only service and there is no UAE office or centre.

Every figure carries its source

The AED bands here are attributed to the competitor or rate table they came from and the month they were read. No guaranteed grades, no satisfaction statistics, no star ratings, no regulator approval claimed, because none is held.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Aljada: your questions answered

Would we get better IGCSE tutoring if we lived in Muwaileh instead of Aljada?+

For group classes and for content help, marginally — provision clusters around established schools and University City's undergraduate supply is real, which is why published budget rates of AED 33 to AED 150 an hour are achievable there. For specialist syllabus teaching, no. The pool of people who can teach Additional Mathematics 0606 or mark 0478 pseudocode the way the syllabus does is the same small number across the whole emirate, and moving house does not change it.

Will an IGCSE tutor come to our apartment or villa in Aljada?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Sharjah or anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we provide only in India, and there is no UAE office or centre. Aljada students are taught one-to-one over live video, in Gulf Standard Time, with the past paper on a shared screen. In a community still filling, the practical benefit is that the tutoring does not depend on local supply arriving first.

Is a group IGCSE class worth the drive from Aljada?+

Sometimes, and the maths is worth doing honestly. Group tuition runs AED 90 to AED 180 per student per hour against AED 150 to AED 300 one-to-one, so the saving is real. Against it, the journey turns a 90-minute class into a three-hour evening commitment and amounts to a second school run on the same roads. Groups are good at broad revision and poor at individual misconceptions, so the saving is only a saving if broad revision is what your child needs.

Can my child share a tutor with a friend to cut the cost?+

Yes, with one firm condition: the same board, the same syllabus code and the same tier. Two students at Core and Extended cannot share an hour usefully, because the questions diverge sharply in the second half of the course and one of the pair spends the time watching. Where the match holds, an online small group of two to four at AED 90 to AED 180 each is genuinely good value, and nobody has to drive anywhere for it.

How do I read my child's marked IGCSE paper if I never studied the subject?+

Ignore the total and look at where marks went. Note the first word of each question that lost marks — calculate, describe, explain, suggest, evaluate — and whether the space was blank, wrong, or right with no working shown. Blank spaces point at content gaps; wrong answers point at understanding; correct answers without working point at a habit throwing away method marks. Then check whether losses cluster in one topic or scatter across many. That distinction decides what to buy.

What happens if my child's school does not offer a subject they need?+

There are three routes and only one is quick. The school may add it if enough students want it, which is a multi-term conversation. The student may sit it as a private candidate through a centre that accepts external entries, with the teaching arranged separately — your exams officer can explain what that involves. Or you plan around the gap, which is sometimes right but should be a decision rather than a default. Additional Mathematics, Accounting, Computer Science and Economics are the usual casualties.

How many accredited IGCSE subjects does my child need for UAE equivalency?+

Five, on the British track: five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education not counted among the five. Alongside those, equivalency asks for one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or better, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. One ranking competitor page states six subjects; the sourced figure is five. Verify your own case with the Ministry, since this is a process to describe rather than one a tutoring service performs.

When is the deadline to decide on a November resit?+

Days after August results rather than weeks, which is why the decision should be researched before results day. A June grade that misses an AS or university requirement has a November route — Cambridge runs June and November series and the February/March series is India-only, so November is the Sharjah resit option. Ask your exams officer in advance what a resit entry involves at your centre. Families who do that make the call calmly; families who do not spend results week guessing.

Does a Core tier entry cause a problem later?+

It caps the Cambridge grade at C. That clears the Ministry of Education equivalency floor of grade E or 3, so it does not block a UAE university application by itself, but it usually falls short of what AS and A Level courses expect in mathematics and the sciences, where an A or B at Extended is the normal ask. If the entry has not yet been made, a tier conversation supported by marked work at the higher standard is worth having with the school in Year 9 or early Year 10.

Can a tutor give us the mark schemes and past papers to keep at home?+

They should not host a library of them. Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables are Cambridge's and Pearson's copyright and are available free through your school and the boards' own channels. The legitimate approach is working through official material in session with the source named so you can find it yourself. A service distributing board material is handling someone else's copyright, and for unreleased material the exposure is considerably worse.

Which Cambridge timetable applies to a Sharjah candidate?+

Only the one your centre issues. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, and says it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong version. A tutor quoting dates from a generic download may be working from a document that does not apply to your child. Sharjah candidates sit the June and November series; February/March is India-only.

Is a tutor in Sharjah required to hold a permit, and can I check?+

Yes, and you can simply ask. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers school and government-sector teachers, private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no schedule of amounts is published, so treat quoted figures as unverified.

What does SPEA mean for my child's subject choices?+

The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in the emirate, and its remit is wider than inspection: Sharjah's authority approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. That is part of why a Sharjah school's IGCSE offer can differ from a Dubai school's a short drive away, and why a subject list has to be read in the emirate's own context. IB Gram is not approved, licensed or endorsed by SPEA or any other UAE regulator.

What should I do if the tutor turns out to be the wrong match?+

Change them, early, and agree before you start that this is how it works. A mismatch between a student and a teacher is common and says nothing about either of them, and an arrangement that treats a change as a complaint is one you will stay with too long. Practically: name the loss in writing before the block begins, review the next marked paper after four to six sessions, and if that specific loss has not shifted, change the plan or the person.

Compare the real differences, then get the code

If you are comparing an IGCSE home tutor in Aljada against the same search in Al Zahia, Muwaileh or Tilal City, the honest summary is that home-visit costs, group options and session times differ while specialist supply does not. So start with the things you control. Email the exams officer for the board, code, tier and practical route, read the last marked paper using the method on this page, and take a free trial over live video at a time that survives an inland Sharjah evening.
