IB IGCSE Tutor near me in Aljada

Type "IB IGCSE tutor near me" from a flat in Aljada and Google hands you a list of agencies sorted by advertising budget, not by who can teach Cambridge 0580 Paper 2 without a calculator. This page does the opposite. It sets out the exact syllabus content, the paper weightings and the mark-scheme traps that cost Aljada students marks, then explains how IB Gram delivers that teaching: one-to-one, live over video, on Gulf Standard Time, with a free trial lesson before anybody pays anything.

  • Syllabus codes named: 0580, 0625, 0620, 4MA1, 4PH1

IB & IGCSE in Aljada

What an Aljada parent is really asking when they search for a tutor nearby

The search phrase is about distance, but the problem almost never is. A family in Aljada who needs help with Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 does not need someone who lives eight minutes away. They need someone who knows that the Extended route changed shape: Paper 2 is now sat without a calculator and Paper 4 with one, each lasting two hours and each carrying half the grade. A tutor who still prepares students for the old Paper 2 plus Paper 4 pairing from a decade ago will produce neat work and a disappointing result.

Aljada sits in Muwaileh, close to University City Road and a short hop from Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road. The practical effect is that children living in one tower may attend four different schools, following three different syllabuses, with three different homework calendars. One sibling may be doing Cambridge IGCSE Co-ordinated Sciences 0654, another the Pearson Edexcel International GCSE 4MA1 maths paper, a third the IB Middle Years Programme with criterion-based reporting instead of percentages. A single neighbourhood tutor cannot credibly cover that spread.

So this page is written from the syllabus up. Each section below names the component, the weighting and the specific place marks are lost. For Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625 that means Paper 6, the alternative to practical, where students lose marks for describing a method in the wrong tense or omitting the variable they were told to control. For IB Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches it means Paper 3 at Higher Level, a problem-solving paper worth twenty per cent that rewards students who can read a long unfamiliar stem and keep going when the first part does not resolve cleanly.

IB Gram's answer to the distance question is straightforward. We do not offer home visits in Sharjah; visiting a student's home is a service we run only in India. Lessons for Aljada families are delivered one-to-one over live video, with a shared whiteboard, a screen the student writes on, and a past-paper question open side by side with the mark scheme's command terms. That removes the travel premium from the price and removes the geographic limit from the pool, which is the only reason a Chemistry Higher Level specialist can be the person teaching your child on a Tuesday evening.

Everything that follows is checkable. Where we quote a rate, it is the rate a named provider published and we say so. Where we name a regulator, we explain what it governs and link you to its own page. Where a date is unverified, we say it is unverified rather than guess, because a parent who acts on a wrong exam date has been badly served by a page that looked confident. Sharjah families get one extra check for free: SPEA publishes the school calendar the emirate's private schools work to, so an internal deadline can be read against it before a term of hours is bought.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Aljada children sit across the full range of international programmes, and the tutoring question changes completely depending on which one. A Middle Years Programme student is graded against criteria out of eight; an IGCSE student is graded against raw marks converted to a 9-1 or A*-G scale. Here is what each programme actually asks for.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and the creativity, activity, service strand. Forty-two points come from the six subjects at seven each, and up to three more from the Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay grade matrix, giving the familiar ceiling of forty-five. Higher Level courses carry roughly 240 teaching hours against 150 at Standard Level, and that gap is where most private tuition is spent.

Aljada families with a Diploma student usually need help on two fronts at once: a Higher Level subject where the content has outrun the class, and an internal assessment with a school deadline that arrives months before the exam. Those are different kinds of work. The first is teaching; the second is process coaching on the student's own writing, which is the only form of help IB academic honesty rules permit.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups assessed against four criteria, each marked out of eight and converted to a 1-7 grade through published boundaries. There are no percentages and no raw mark totals, which is why a parent reading an MYP report often cannot tell whether a four is a problem. Criterion A is typically knowledge and understanding; the later criteria reward investigation, communication and reflection, and those are the ones students lose because nobody taught them the format.

For an Aljada student moving from MYP into the Diploma, the gap that matters is algebraic fluency and the habit of showing a full method. MYP rewards a well-explained approach; Diploma Paper 1 rewards an efficient, correct one under time pressure. Six to ten sessions over a summer closes most of that, worked through past Diploma questions rather than more MYP tasks.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Two-year courses examined by terminal papers, with Cambridge syllabuses carrying four-digit codes and Pearson Edexcel using the 4XX1 pattern. Cambridge splits many subjects into Core and Extended tiers with different grade ceilings; Pearson Edexcel tends to run a single tier with tiered content inside the paper. Entry decisions made in Year 10 therefore cap the grade available in Year 11, which is a conversation worth having early.

The first question an Aljada parent should answer is which board their child's school actually enters. Schools in and around Muwaileh use both. A tutor preparing a student for Cambridge 0620 Chemistry when the school enters Pearson Edexcel 4CH1 will teach the right chemistry and the wrong paper discipline, and the difference shows up in the practical-skills component.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

An inquiry-led framework with transdisciplinary units rather than subject timetables, finishing in the Year 6 exhibition. Reading fluency, number sense and written structure are the three things that transfer forward, and they are also the three that a transdisciplinary report can mask. A PYP report describing strong engagement is not telling you whether a child can subtract across a zero reliably.

Primary tuition for Aljada families is deliberately short and diagnostic: establish what is actually missing, fix it, stop. Long open-ended primary contracts are where families waste the most money in this market, because progress is easy to feel and hard to measure without a baseline taken at the start.

Subject coverage

IB subjects we tutor

These are the subjects Aljada families ask for most, described by what the papers test rather than by a one-line label. Where a syllabus code is given it is the code to check against your child's school entry sheet before booking anything.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Standard Level sits Paper 1 without a calculator and Paper 2 with one, at forty per cent each, plus the exploration at twenty. Higher Level adds Paper 3, a two-question problem-solving paper worth twenty per cent. Marks go missing in proof by induction, in complex numbers and in the long-stem Paper 3 questions where a student stops after part (a).

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

The same weightings as Analysis and Approaches, with statistics, modelling and technology use in place of abstract proof. Graphical calculator fluency is assessed, not assumed, and students lose marks for untidy regression reporting and for quoting a correlation coefficient without saying what it means for the context in the question.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580

Core and Extended

Extended candidates sit Paper 2 without a calculator and Paper 4 with one, two hours each, fifty per cent each. The non-calculator paper is where the grade is usually decided: surds, index laws, fraction arithmetic and bounds all appear, and a student drilled only on calculator methods arrives unprepared for half the qualification.

Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625

Core and Extended

Extended candidates take Paper 2 multiple choice at thirty per cent, Paper 4 theory at fifty, and either Paper 5 practical or Paper 6 alternative to practical at twenty. Electricity and the equations of motion generate most lost marks, closely followed by Paper 6 answers that describe an experiment without naming the control variable.

Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry 0620

Core and Extended

Same paper architecture as physics. The reliable mark-losers are moles and reacting masses, qualitative analysis tests written from memory with the wrong observation, and organic chemistry answers that give a product without the conditions. Past-paper work with the mark scheme visible is worth more here than any amount of re-reading notes.

Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610

Core and Extended

Content-heavy and marked strictly on terminology. Students who say a substance moves from high to low concentration without naming diffusion, or who describe natural selection without the word variation, lose marks they knew the biology for. Paper 6 rewards drawing a results table before the experiment is described.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A 4MA1

Foundation and Higher

Two papers of equal weight, both with a calculator, which makes the paper discipline genuinely different from Cambridge 0580. Higher-tier candidates meet vectors, histograms with unequal class widths and iterative methods; the common failure is working shown so sparsely that method marks cannot be awarded.

IB Chemistry

HL and SL

Under the current syllabus, Paper 1 combines multiple choice with a data-based section, Paper 2 carries the extended response, and the scientific investigation is worth twenty per cent. Energetics, equilibrium and the Higher Level organic mechanisms account for most of the gap between a five and a seven.

IB English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 is unseen textual analysis, Paper 2 a comparative essay on studied texts, and the individual oral is assessed internally. Higher Level adds the HL essay. Students lose marks by summarising rather than analysing, and by writing a Paper 2 comparison that treats the two texts in sequence instead of together.

IGCSE coverage

IGCSE subjects we tutor

A second grid, because Aljada households frequently have one child mid-IGCSE and another in the Diploma. These are the IGCSE options families here add alongside the core sciences and maths.

Cambridge IGCSE English as a Second Language 0510 and 0511

Core and Extended routes

Reading, writing, listening and speaking, with the speaking component separately endorsed. Students in Sharjah schools often sit this rather than First Language English 0500, and the two syllabuses reward different things: 0510 rewards accuracy and register control, 0500 rewards argument and stylistic range.

Cambridge IGCSE Co-ordinated Sciences 0654

Double award

Biology, chemistry and physics compressed into a double award. The content is thinner per subject but the papers move faster, and students coming from a triple-science background often over-answer. Knowing which statements the syllabus has removed is half the preparation.

Cambridge IGCSE Business Studies 0450

Single tier

Case-study driven, with marks allocated for application to the business in the stem rather than for textbook recall. Analysis and evaluation bands are where grades are made, and the most common loss is a well-written answer about businesses in general rather than the one on the paper.

Cambridge IGCSE Computer Science 0478

Single tier

Paper 1 covers computer systems, Paper 2 algorithms and programming. Pseudocode must follow the syllabus conventions, not a student's preferred language, and trace tables are the single most reliable source of easy marks for students who practise them.

Cambridge IGCSE Arabic as a First Language 0508

Single tier

Sat alongside the Ministry-mandated Arabic provision that private schools must deliver whatever their licensed curriculum. Reading comprehension and directed writing dominate, and students educated mainly in English frequently have the vocabulary but not the formal register the mark scheme expects.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways Aljada families use IB Gram, all of them delivered over live video. The right one depends less on budget than on how far the student is from where they need to be and how much time is left.

Weekly one-to-one, single subject

One sixty- or ninety-minute session a week on one named syllabus, running through the school's own scheme of work slightly ahead of the class so the student arrives at each lesson already having met the material. This is the setting most Aljada families start in, and the one that produces the steadiest movement in internal grades.

  • Session notes and the week's past-paper questions sent after each lesson
  • Pace set against your school's scheme of work, not a generic plan
  • Tutor continuity, so nobody re-diagnoses the same gap twice

Paper-focused intensive

A short block aimed at one component: Cambridge Paper 2 non-calculator technique, Paper 6 alternative to practical, or Diploma Paper 3 problem solving. Two or three sessions a week for four to six weeks, built entirely around timed questions and mark-scheme reading rather than fresh content.

  • Every session ends with a timed question marked against the official criteria
  • Command terms taught explicitly: state, describe, explain, suggest, justify
  • A written list of the specific errors recurring in that student's work

Internal assessment process coaching

Support on the exploration, the scientific investigation, the Extended Essay or a coursework component, kept strictly inside IB and Cambridge academic-honesty rules. A tutor helps a student narrow a question, read the criteria, plan a method and respond to feedback on a draft the student wrote.

  • Criteria explained letter by letter with the marks attached to each
  • Feedback on the student's own draft, never text supplied for them
  • Internal school deadlines mapped backwards from the submission date

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Aljada

01

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580: the two papers and where the grade is decided

An Extended candidate sits two papers of two hours each, worth fifty per cent apiece. Paper 2 is taken without a calculator and Paper 4 with one. That split is the single most useful thing a parent in Aljada can know, because it tells you what to look for in a tutor's first session. If the first hour is spent on calculator-driven trigonometry, half the qualification is being ignored.

The non-calculator paper rewards arithmetic the student can carry out cleanly: fraction operations, index laws, standard form, surds left in exact form, upper and lower bounds, and percentage reverse problems. None of that is conceptually hard. It is fragile, which is different. A student who has used a calculator for three years will get the method right and the arithmetic wrong, and the mark scheme awards the method mark and withholds the accuracy mark, which is how a confident student lands on a grade six.

The calculator paper is where the longer structured questions live: cumulative frequency, histograms with unequal widths, vectors, transformations, and the multi-step problems that chain two topics together. The recurring loss here is not knowledge but presentation. Students write a single line of working and a final answer. If the answer is wrong, there is nothing on the page to credit. Teaching a student to write enough working to be rescued is worth more marks than teaching them another topic.

Core candidates sit Paper 1 and Paper 3, ninety minutes each, with a grade ceiling that the school sets at entry. If your child is capable of a grade above that ceiling, the conversation to have is with the school in Year 10, not with a tutor in Year 11.

The sciences: Paper 6 is twenty per cent and almost nobody practises it

  • Name one independent, one dependent and two controlled variables, every time
  • Draw the results table before describing the method, with units in the headings
  • Identify anomalies explicitly and exclude them from the mean
  • Evaluation answers need a specific improvement, not 'repeat for accuracy'

Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625, Chemistry 0620 and Biology 0610 share one architecture. Extended candidates sit a multiple-choice paper worth thirty per cent, a theory paper worth fifty, and a practical component worth twenty. Most schools in Sharjah enter students for Paper 6, the alternative to practical, rather than the laboratory-based Paper 5. That means a fifth of the qualification is a written paper about experiments.

Paper 6 has a grammar of its own. Answers must name the independent variable, the dependent variable and at least two controlled variables. Readings must be described as repeated, with a mean taken. Tables must be drawn with headings and units before any data exists. Anomalies must be identified and excluded from the mean rather than quietly averaged in. None of this is physics, chemistry or biology. It is a format, and a student who learns the format in four sessions moves several grade boundaries without learning any new content.

The theory papers lose marks for different reasons in each subject. In physics it is the equations of motion applied without checking whether acceleration is constant, and circuit questions where a student computes a total resistance and forgets which component the question asked about. In chemistry it is moles: a student who can define a mole but cannot convert between mass, moles and concentration under time pressure. In biology it is terminology, where the mark scheme wants the word and accepts no paraphrase.

The practical-skills question to ask any prospective tutor is simple. Ask which paper your child's school enters for the practical component, and ask what the mark scheme wants in an evaluation answer. A tutor who answers both precisely has taught this syllabus. A tutor who talks about building confidence in science has not.

03

IB Mathematics for Aljada students: choosing between AA and AI, then surviving Paper 3

The Diploma offers two maths routes. Analysis and Approaches is the proof-and-calculus route; Applications and Interpretation is the statistics-and-modelling route. Both exist at Standard and Higher Level, and both are weighted the same way: at Standard Level, Paper 1 and Paper 2 at forty per cent each plus the exploration at twenty; at Higher Level, Paper 1 and Paper 2 at thirty per cent each, Paper 3 at twenty, and the exploration at twenty.

The route choice is not a difficulty ranking, it is a fit question with a university consequence. Engineering, physics, mathematics and many economics courses expect Analysis and Approaches, often at Higher Level. Courses in business, psychology, design and the life sciences commonly accept Applications and Interpretation. Before a student in Aljada commits, the sensible step is to read the entry requirements for two or three target universities directly and work backwards, because the requirement is set by the admitting department and changes between them.

Paper 3 at Higher Level deserves separate attention because it is unlike anything in the IGCSE experience. It presents two extended problems, each building through many parts from a concrete starting point towards a general result. Students who are strong on technique and weak on persistence do badly on it. The teaching is explicit: read the whole question first, accept that part (c) may be unreachable until part (b) is done, and write down the pattern you observe even when you cannot prove it, because description earns marks before proof does.

The exploration is twenty per cent and is marked against five criteria: presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection, and use of mathematics, which carries the largest single allocation. Students lose the communication marks for undefined notation and the reflection marks for describing what they did rather than evaluating whether it worked. A tutor may teach a student to read those criteria and may give feedback on a draft the student wrote. A tutor may not write any part of it.

What tutoring actually costs around Aljada, and who publishes the numbers

Start with the monthly figure rather than the hourly one, because that is the number a household budget has to absorb. Bestimate's Dubai tutoring cost table puts a weekly one-hour arrangement at roughly AED 240 to 600 a month at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Monthly packages advertised in this market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home visits.

Converted to an hourly rate, the published bands look like this. EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to 65 an hour and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52, both online and both at the university-student end of the market. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 an hour and IB from AED 200. TutorChase quotes around AED 270. Bestimate puts IB, IGCSE and A-Level specialists at AED 200 to 450 and above, with premium named tutors reported as high as AED 650 at BartyED. In-home one-to-one visits, travel included, are quoted at AED 180 to 500.

The gap between the online band and the in-home band is the travel premium, and it is worth being precise about what it buys. It buys a person in the room. It does not buy a better subject match, and in Sharjah it frequently buys a worse one, because the pool shrinks to whoever is willing to drive to Muwaileh at six in the evening. A family paying AED 350 an hour for a visiting generalist is paying more for less subject depth than a family paying AED 220 for a live video session with a Chemistry Higher Level specialist.

IB Gram does not publish a fixed price list on these pages, and will not quote the market's figures as its own. The honest route is a free trial lesson and a consultation where the subject, level, session length and frequency are agreed, and the figure is given against that. Every rate above is a market rate published by the named provider; none of them is ours.

Online against in-home for an Aljada household, argued on the specifics

  • Travel premium: roughly the difference between the 150-300 and 180-500 published bands
  • Tutor pool: everyone free at that hour, rather than everyone free and nearby
  • Rescheduling: a missed slot moves within the week instead of being lost
  • Not for everyone: a young child who cannot work on screen is better served in person

The case for in-home tuition is real and worth stating properly. A tutor in the room can see a student's page without being shown it, can intervene the moment a pen stops moving, and can hold the attention of a younger child who will not sit still in front of a screen. For a Year 4 student with a reading difficulty, those are decisive advantages. Nobody should pretend otherwise.

The case against it in Sharjah is logistical and it compounds. A tutor who travels builds the journey into the fee, which is most of the gap between the AED 150 to 300 online band and the AED 180 to 500 in-home band. The tutor can realistically serve a small radius, so the pool a family in Aljada can draw from is whoever covers Muwaileh at the hour they want. If a session has to start at seven because of traffic on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, and the student's attention runs out at eight thirty, the usable window is ninety minutes a week. A cancellation cannot be refilled, because the next slot is a different drive.

Online removes each of those constraints in turn. The pool is every specialist available at that hour anywhere, which is why a Diploma Physics Higher Level request can be matched at all. There is no travel premium in the rate. A session missed on Tuesday can move to Thursday without anybody rearranging a route. Work stays in one shared folder rather than in a stack of paper nobody can find in April. Screen sharing puts a past paper and its mark scheme side by side, which is awkward in a living room and natural on a screen.

The honest limit: online needs a quiet corner, a reliable connection and a device with a keyboard. It works least well for a child who genuinely cannot focus on a screen, and we will say so on a trial call rather than take the booking. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Sharjah; home visits are a service we run only in India, and no sentence on this site should suggest otherwise.

06

Past papers, mark schemes and the one thing families get wrong about them

Past-paper practice is the highest-return activity available to an IGCSE or Diploma student, and it is routinely done in a way that wastes most of the benefit. A student downloads a paper, answers it with notes open, checks answers against the mark scheme, counts a score, and feels reassured. Almost none of the value has been collected.

The value sits in the mark scheme's wording, not in the score. A Cambridge mark scheme shows exactly which words earn the mark and which are rejected. It shows where a method mark survives a wrong answer and where it does not. It shows that explain requires a because and that describe does not. A student who reads three mark schemes carefully, in the company of someone who can say why the examiner drew the line where they did, learns more than a student who sits six papers alone.

The second common error is sequencing. Papers sat too early, before the content is covered, produce a low score and a demoralised student. Papers sat too late leave no time to act on what they reveal. The workable pattern is topic-level questions during the year as each topic finishes, full timed papers from the point the syllabus is complete, and the final weeks spent exclusively on the specific error types that keep recurring in that student's own work.

One boundary matters here. IB Gram does not host, reproduce or supply syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables. Those belong to Cambridge, Pearson and the IB, and they are available through your school or the board's own site. A tutor works with you from the official material; nobody emails you a library of it.

07

The exam calendar, counted backwards from the UAE series that actually apply

Cambridge International runs IGCSE and O Level examinations in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. The February and March examination series is offered to India only, so a page telling a Sharjah parent to prepare for a spring Cambridge sitting is giving them another country's calendar. UAE candidates sit June, with November available as the resit route.

Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong one. That is a sentence worth taking literally. The timetable to work from is the one your child's school gives you, not a PDF found by search.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE examinations run in May/June and in November. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026; November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Those are backward-looking facts with dates attached, which is what makes them checkable. Future windows are published as provisional timetables and get revised, so the only responsible instruction is to work from the live official timetable rather than from a date restated on a tutoring page.

For the IB Diploma, UAE schools sit the May session. We do not publish a specific IB examination or results date anywhere on this site: the IB's own site blocks automated checking, so no date in our research was confirmed at source. Your school's Diploma coordinator holds the authoritative version, including the internal upload deadlines, which almost always bite months earlier than parents expect.

SPEA, academic honesty and checking that a tutor may legally teach here

  • Sharjah: the Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in the emirate
  • The private tuition work permit is free of charge and valid for two years
  • No fine schedule is published, so treat any quoted fine figure as unverified
  • A tutor gives feedback on the student's own draft and never supplies text

Private schools in Sharjah are regulated by the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which regulates private education in the emirate. Sharjah's authority also approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, so curriculum approval and not merely inspection sits at emirate level. Dubai's schools answer to the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, Abu Dhabi's and Al Ain's to the Department of Education and Knowledge, and schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah to the federal Ministry of Education. That matters for an Aljada family whose children attend schools in two emirates.

Private tutoring itself is regulated separately, by permit. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged fifteen to eighteen, and university students. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule has been published, so no amount should be quoted to you. The application route is the Ministry's own private tutor licensing service.

Academic honesty is the other boundary, and it is the one the worst pages in this market cross. A tutor may teach content, explain assessment criteria, discuss a student's chosen research question, model how to structure an argument and give feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor may not write, part-write, rewrite to completion or supply text for an exploration, a scientific investigation, an Extended Essay, a Theory of Knowledge essay or any coursework. Work submitted for assessment must be the student's own. One operator in this market advertises completed Internal Assessments for sale; that is a malpractice trigger for the student, and the consequences land on the child, not the seller.

IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from SPEA, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, the Department of Education and Knowledge, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and claims none. We have no office or centre in Sharjah. What we have is a matching service and tutors who work to named syllabuses, which is a smaller claim and a true one.

Where we tutor

Aljada and the Sharjah districts around it

Aljada does not sit on its own. Families here share school runs, bus routes and tutor recommendations with half a dozen neighbouring districts, and a session time that works in one works in most of them. Here is the practical picture.

Muwaileh

The district Aljada sits inside, and the one most Aljada school runs pass through. A heavy concentration of Indian-curriculum and British-curriculum schools means a lot of local demand for IGCSE maths and science help in Years 10 and 11.

University City

Sharjah's higher-education cluster, immediately east. The proximity matters because the available pool of local private tutors here is heavily weighted towards undergraduates, which is a different proposition from a subject specialist who has taught the syllabus.

Al Zahia

A newer community a few minutes north along Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, sharing much of Aljada's school catchment. Families move between the two and often carry a tutor recommendation with them.

Al Majaz

Central Sharjah on Khalid Lagoon, dense with apartment blocks and older-established schools. Session timing here is shaped by Dubai commuting, since many Al Majaz parents work across the border and are not home before seven.

Al Nahda, Sharjah

The Dubai-border district, where a nine-kilometre commute can take fifty minutes at peak. Online evening sessions are the norm here for the simple reason that nobody reliably arrives anywhere on time between five and seven.

Al Khan

Coastal Sharjah, mixed older and newer towers. Families here often have children in two schools on different sides of the city, so a tutoring slot has to work around a staggered return rather than a single pickup.

Tilal City

South along Maliha Road, lower density and newer. The school run is longer, which pushes Diploma sessions later into the evening and makes a weekend morning slot more valuable than it is closer to the centre.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Aljada

Muwaileh, Aljada and University City

Students we support in and around Aljada attend schools across this cluster. Naming them is context about which syllabuses and timetables shape a tutoring plan here; it says nothing about any relationship between those schools and IB Gram.

  • Victoria International School of Sharjah
  • The Sheffield Private School
  • Delhi Private School, Sharjah
  • Wesgreen International School
  • American School of Creative Science
  • Emirates National School, Sharjah

Central Sharjah and the Dubai border

A second cluster that matters because a large share of Aljada and Al Nahda families drive across to Dubai schools, which changes the realistic start time for a weekday session by an hour or more.

  • Our Own English High School, Sharjah
  • GEMS Millennium School, Sharjah
  • Australian International School, Sharjah
  • Sharjah American International School
  • Deira International School
  • GEMS Modern Academy, Dubai

Schools are named here only as context for the syllabuses and timetables families in this area work around; no affiliation, endorsement or partnership with any named school is implied.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the syllabus code, not just the subject

The first message that produces a good match names the board and the code: Cambridge 0580 Extended, Pearson Edexcel 4PH1, IB Chemistry Higher Level. It is on your child's school entry sheet or report. With that, matching is a question of availability rather than guesswork.

  2. 02

A free trial lesson, taught not sold

One real lesson on a real topic, over live video, at no cost. The tutor works a past-paper question with your child and you get a short written note afterwards saying what the actual gap is. If it is not the right fit, nothing has been paid and nothing is owed.

  3. 03

Agree the plan and the slot

Session length, frequency and the term's target are set against your school's scheme of work and its internal deadlines. For an Aljada family that usually means a weekday evening after the school run settles, with a weekend morning as the reschedule slot rather than an extra.

  4. 04

    Weekly teaching with written notes

Each session covers the week's topic slightly ahead of the class, then a timed question marked against the official criteria. Notes and the marked question go to you afterwards, so progress is something you can read rather than something you are told about.

  5. 05

Review at six weeks, and change what is not working

Six weeks in, we look at the school's own assessment data against the baseline from the trial. If the subject was wrong, the frequency was wrong or the tutor was wrong, that is the point to change it. A plan nobody reviews is a subscription, not a plan.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched to a syllabus, not to a postcode

An Aljada family's match is made on whether the tutor knows Cambridge 0620's practical component or IB Maths Paper 3, not on who lives nearby. Delivering online is what makes that possible, and it is the whole argument for the format.

Every number on this page has a source

The AED bands are published rates attributed to the provider who published them, read in October 2026. The Pearson dates are backward-looking and cited. Where a date could not be verified at source, we say it is unverified instead of filling the gap.

We will not touch assessed work

Explorations, investigations, Extended Essays and coursework get criteria teaching, planning help and feedback on the student's own draft. They do not get text from us. That line is not a policy preference; it is what keeps a student's diploma safe.

The claims are deliberately small

No regulator approval, no accreditation, no partnership with any school, no office in Sharjah, no guaranteed grade, no invented satisfaction statistic. Everything we claim can be checked, which is a rarer thing in this market than it should be.

A free trial before any money moves

One full lesson with the matched tutor at no charge, with a written note on what the gap actually is. The point is to let you judge the teaching rather than the sales call, and to make a wrong match cost you nothing.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Aljada: your questions answered

Is there an IB or IGCSE tutor near me in Aljada who comes to the apartment?+

Not through IB Gram. We do not offer home visits in Sharjah; visiting a student's home is a service we run only in India. Lessons for Aljada families are one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time. The reason is not cost-cutting: online matching lets an Aljada student work with a specialist in their exact syllabus rather than with whoever will drive to Muwaileh at six. The in-home market does exist here, and published rates run from roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel included, which is the premium you would be paying for presence in the room.

Which maths papers does my child sit for Cambridge IGCSE 0580 Extended?+

Two papers, each two hours and each worth half the grade. Paper 2 is taken without a calculator and Paper 4 with one. The non-calculator paper is usually where the grade is settled, because it tests fraction arithmetic, index laws, surds in exact form and bounds, all of which decay fast in a student who has used a calculator for three years. Core candidates sit Paper 1 and Paper 3 instead, at ninety minutes each, with a grade ceiling the school sets at entry. Check your child's entry sheet for the tier before booking any tuition.

What is Paper 6 in IGCSE science and why does it matter so much in Aljada schools?+

Paper 6 is the alternative to practical, a written paper about experiments, and it carries twenty per cent of Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625, Chemistry 0620 and Biology 0610. Most schools in this part of Sharjah enter it rather than the laboratory-based Paper 5. It is marked on format as much as science: name the independent, dependent and controlled variables, draw the table with units before describing the method, identify anomalies and exclude them from the mean, and give a specific improvement in evaluation answers. Four focused sessions on that format typically move more marks than four on content.

Should an Aljada student take IB Maths Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation?+

It depends on the degree, not on which looks easier. Analysis and Approaches is the proof and calculus route and is commonly expected for engineering, physics, mathematics and many economics courses, often at Higher Level. Applications and Interpretation is the statistics and modelling route and is widely accepted for business, psychology, design and life-science courses. The reliable method is to read the entry requirements for two or three target universities directly, because the requirement is set by the admitting department and varies between them. Decide before the option sheet goes in, not after.

How much do families around Muwaileh and Aljada pay for IGCSE tuition?+

Published market rates give the range. Online university-student tutors advertise from AED 33 to 65 an hour, with Tutopiya from 33 to 52 and EdFlik from 45 to 65. Qualified subject tutors online sit at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from 150 and IB from 200. Specialists run AED 200 to 450 and above. In-home visits are quoted at AED 180 to 500 including travel. Monthly, a weekly one-hour arrangement is estimated at AED 240 to 600 at the budget end and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for exam-year specialist support. Those are the market's figures, not ours.

Can a tutor help my child write the IB exploration or Extended Essay?+

A tutor can teach the assessment criteria letter by letter, help a student narrow a research question, explain what mathematical communication means in practice, and give feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor cannot write it, part-write it, or supply text for it. Work submitted for assessment must be the student's own, and the consequence of breaching that falls on the student. One operator in this market sells completed Internal Assessments outright; buying one puts a diploma at risk, and no grade is worth that trade.

Does my child in Sharjah sit the Cambridge February or March exam series?+

No. Cambridge offers the February and March series to India only. Candidates in the UAE sit the June series, with November available as the resit route, and Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests running in March, May and October. Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and warns that using the wrong zone's timetable is the candidate's risk, so work from the timetable your child's school issues rather than one found through a search. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and in November.

Which schools do the students you support in Aljada attend?+

Families we work with in and around Aljada have children at schools across the Muwaileh and University City cluster, including Victoria International School of Sharjah, The Sheffield Private School, Delhi Private School Sharjah, Wesgreen International School and the American School of Creative Science, and a number drive across to Dubai schools such as Deira International School. We name them as context for the syllabuses and timetables a tutoring plan has to fit around. No affiliation, partnership or endorsement with any school is implied, and none exists.

Does a private tutor in Sharjah need a permit, and how would I check?+

Yes. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so treat any quoted figure as unverified. Ask a prospective tutor directly whether they hold the permit.

How does an online lesson actually work for a Year 11 student in Aljada?+

The student joins a video call at the agreed time with a device, a keyboard and a quiet corner. The tutor shares a whiteboard and the student writes on it, so working is visible the way it would be on paper. A past-paper question sits open beside the official mark scheme, and the two are read together so the student can see which words earn marks. Each session finishes with a timed question, marked against the real criteria. Notes and the marked question are sent afterwards, which is how you see progress rather than hear about it.

My child is in Year 11 with the June series close. Is it too late to start?+

No, but the work changes. With a full year available, a tutor teaches content ahead of the class. With weeks available, the only sensible plan is error-type work: identify the three or four mistakes that recur in that student's own papers and drill those specifically, under timed conditions, with the mark scheme open. For Cambridge sciences that often means the Paper 6 format; for 0580 Extended it is usually non-calculator accuracy. Spending the last weeks on topics the student has never met is where families waste the most money.

Can one tutor cover both maths and physics for the same Aljada student?+

Sometimes, and it is worth asking rather than assuming. A tutor comfortable with Cambridge 0580 Extended and 0625 Extended can genuinely carry both, because the mathematics inside the physics is the overlap. At Diploma Higher Level the two diverge, and a Physics HL specialist is usually a different person from a Maths Analysis and Approaches HL specialist. Where one person cannot credibly cover both, we say so and match two, rather than stretching one tutor across a subject they half know.

What happens if no specialist is free for the subject I need?+

We tell you, and we tell you when. Niche combinations, such as Higher Level Further Mathematics or a less common second language, have a smaller pool and a longer match time, and some requests we cannot fill at the hour you want. The alternatives are a different slot, a different tutor with adjacent expertise clearly described, or a wait with a date attached. What we will not do is take the booking and hope. A disclosed limit is more useful to you than a confident guess.

Which Sharjah regulator oversees my child's school, and does IB Gram answer to it?+

Private schools in Sharjah are regulated by the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which regulates private education in the emirate and also approves fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. If your child attends school in Dubai, the regulator is the Knowledge and Human Development Authority instead. IB Gram is a tutoring service, not a school, and holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from the Sharjah Private Education Authority or any other regulator or examination board, and does not claim one. Private tutors are regulated separately, through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation permit.

Start with the syllabus code and a free trial lesson

If you are searching for an IB or IGCSE tutor near you in Aljada, the most useful thing you can do next takes two minutes: find your child's board and syllabus code on the school entry sheet or report, and send it to us. Cambridge 0580 Extended, Pearson Edexcel 4PH1, IB Chemistry Higher Level - that single line is what turns a vague request into a precise match. Then take the free trial lesson, which is one real lesson on a real topic with the matched tutor, over live video, with a written note afterwards on what the gap actually is. Nothing is paid until you have seen the teaching.
