IGCSE Tutor in Fujairah

An IGCSE tutor in Fujairah is usually one of four choices a family weighs in the same fortnight: the school's own after-hours clinic, a centre in Fujairah city, a freelance who drives over the Hajar mountains from Sharjah, or scheduled lessons on live video. This page sets those four side by side on cost, syllabus match and who is actually in front of your child. IB Gram works the fourth way, one-to-one over video on Gulf Standard Time, with a 45-minute trial lesson before any block is booked.

  • Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 taught to the exact paper your school enters
  • Tutors matched by subject and tier, not by who happens to live nearby
  • One 45-minute trial lesson, no card details, before a block is booked
  • Marked question set and written notes sent after every single session

IB & IGCSE in Fujairah

Four options, one fortnight, and no obvious answer

Most Fujairah parents arrive at this search in the same week of the school year. A mock result comes home, or a subject teacher writes two careful sentences in a report, and suddenly the question is not whether to get help but which kind of help exists on the east coast. Four answers come back, and they are genuinely different products sold at genuinely different prices: the school's own after-hours clinic, a tuition centre in Fujairah city or Kalba, a freelance tutor who drives across from Sharjah or Dubai, and one-to-one lessons taught over live video. Almost nothing written about tutoring in the UAE compares those four honestly, because almost everything written about it is selling one of them.

The comparison matters more here than it does in Dubai. Fujairah sits on the Gulf of Oman, the far side of the Hajar mountains, and the private-school set is small. A family in Jumeirah choosing a Chemistry tutor is choosing from a deep local pool and can afford to treat distance as a tiebreaker. A family in Sakamkam or Merashid is often choosing between one person who covers the subject within driving range and nobody. That changes the arithmetic of every option below, and it is the reason this page leads with the comparison rather than with a sales pitch.

The second thing that changes the arithmetic is the exam board. IGCSE is not one qualification. Cambridge International and Pearson Edexcel both publish international GCSEs in the same subjects, with different paper structures, different tiering rules and different entry calendars, and a school picks one per subject. A tutor who teaches Cambridge Physics 0625 to a student entered for Pearson 4PH1 will still teach physics well and will still cost the same per hour, while quietly preparing the wrong assessment. Half of the value in a good match is simply getting this right before the first lesson, and it is the single question most parents are never asked.

IB Gram is one of the four options, and this page is clear about which one. Lessons for UAE families are delivered online, one-to-one, over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time around the school day. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; tutors arriving at a family's door is a service we run only in India. That is a real limitation and it is stated here rather than buried, because the alternative on the east coast is not a local specialist waiting to be booked. It is usually a long drive, a narrow subject list, and a rate that includes the fuel.

What follows is the comparison, the syllabus codes, the tier decision, the market rates with their sources named, the entry deadlines counted backwards, the permit position under UAE law, and an honest account of what happens when no specialist covers the subject you need. Read the comparison table first. If one of the other three options suits your family better, the page has done its job, and the trial lesson is there to test the fourth without committing to it.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

An IGCSE tutor in Fujairah is almost always working inside one of three structures: the two-year international GCSE course itself, the year before it, or the sixth-form qualification that follows. The structure your child is in decides whether a term of tuition is about building foundations, closing gaps or rehearsing papers.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

International GCSE, Years 10 and 11

A two-year course examined by written papers at the end, usually across eight to ten subjects. Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel each publish their own specifications, with their own paper counts, their own coursework rules and their own tiering. Grades come as 9 to 1 on Pearson's international GCSE and as A* to G on most Cambridge syllabuses, with some Cambridge subjects now reported on the 9 to 1 scale as well. Tuition at this stage is mostly about the gap between knowing content and writing it in the command-term language the mark scheme rewards.

East-coast schools tend to enter smaller cohorts than Dubai schools, which has a practical effect: a subject may be taught by one teacher with no second set and no departmental colleague to cross-mark with. That is not a criticism of the teacher. It means a student who has drifted in one topic has fewer routes back inside school hours, and it is why most Fujairah tuition requests arrive as a single subject rather than a whole timetable.

Year 9Ages 13-14 · Year 9

The year before the course starts

The year in which subject choices are made and in which the Core or Extended decision is first discussed. Nothing is examined, which is exactly why it is the cheapest year in which to fix a problem. Algebraic fluency, the structure of a written science answer and reading speed in English are the three things that decide how the next two years feel, and all three respond faster at this stage than they will in Year 11. Tuition here is short, diagnostic and usually seasonal rather than year-round.

Families in Fujairah often use this year differently from families in the larger emirates. Because the local subject list is narrower, a Year 9 decision about taking Additional Mathematics or a second science has to account for whether the school can staff it at all. A tutor looking at a Year 9 report on the east coast is often answering a scheduling question as much as an academic one.

AS/AAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

International AS and A Level, Years 12 and 13

The two-year sixth-form route most east-coast British-curriculum students take after IGCSE, usually in three or four subjects. The step up is steeper than the step into Year 10 was: papers reward extended reasoning rather than recall, and mathematical demand rises sharply in the sciences. The Ministry of Education's equivalency route for British-curriculum students references this stage directly, which makes the IGCSE grades that gate entry to it worth treating as a gateway rather than an endpoint.

Not every school in Fujairah offers every A Level subject, and some students sit sixth form in Sharjah, Dubai or as private candidates. A tutor working with an east-coast student at this stage is often the only person seeing the whole subject rather than one class of it, which makes written feedback after each lesson more important than it would be in a large sixth form.

PrivateAny age · exam-series dependent

Private candidate entry

A student can be entered for an international GCSE through an approved exam centre without being enrolled in a school that teaches the subject. It is the route families use for a subject the school cannot staff, for a resit, or for a first language the school does not examine. The centre handles the entry; the family handles the teaching. Cambridge and Pearson both publish the series available and the entry windows, and those windows close months before the papers are sat.

Private-candidate entry is relatively common on the east coast for exactly the reason the local subject list is short. It also carries a practical trap: the nearest approved centre may be in Sharjah or Dubai, so the exam-day logistics need settling at the same time as the entry, not afterwards. Check the centre's own list of accepted syllabuses before paying any tuition towards that subject.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Each subject below is listed with the syllabus code a Fujairah school is likely to enter, because the code is what a tutor actually plans against. Where Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel both publish the subject, both are named: the content overlaps heavily, the paper structures do not.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580, Pearson 4MA1)

Core and Extended, Foundation and Higher

The most requested IGCSE subject on the east coast and the one where tier choice bites hardest. Cambridge splits Core and Extended papers; Pearson splits Foundation and Higher. Marks are lost in the same three places on both: algebraic manipulation under time pressure, multi-step problems with no scaffold, and method marks thrown away by unwritten working.

Additional Mathematics (Cambridge 0606)

Single tier

Taken alongside 0580 by students heading for A Level Mathematics or engineering. It introduces calculus, vectors and matrices a year early, which makes it the best preparation available for sixth form and a punishing choice for a student still shaky on indices and surds. Worth a diagnostic conversation before the entry is made rather than after the first mock.

Physics (Cambridge 0625, Pearson 4PH1)

Core and Extended

Electricity and electromagnetism account for a disproportionate share of lost marks, usually because circuit reasoning is being guessed rather than derived. The other recurring loss is unit and prefix handling in calculations. Pearson's international GCSE physics has its own practical assessment arrangements, so the board matters here more than in most subjects.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620, Pearson 4CH1)

Core and Extended

Moles calculations and organic reaction pathways separate grades at the top, while the middle of the mark range is usually decided by whether a student can describe an observation precisely. Equations balance or they do not, which makes chemistry one of the easier subjects to improve measurably inside a term of weekly lessons.

Biology (Cambridge 0610, Pearson 4BI1)

Core and Extended

The content volume is the problem rather than the difficulty of any single idea. Students who revise biology by rereading notes plateau; students who answer past questions under time and then mark their own work against the published criteria do not. Transport, homeostasis and genetics are where the long-answer marks concentrate.

Co-ordinated and Combined Sciences (Cambridge 0654, 0653)

Double and single award

The route most east-coast students take when the school cannot staff three separate sciences or when the timetable will not carry them. Content is trimmed from each of the three disciplines, which sounds easier and often is not: the same paper moves between biology, chemistry and physics conventions, and students lose marks switching register.

First Language English (Cambridge 0500, Pearson 4EA1)

Single tier

Directed writing and the reading responses reward a small number of transferable moves: close textual reference, control of register, and the discipline of answering the question asked. Students who read widely still lose marks here if nobody has shown them how the mark scheme reads a response. It is one of the most coachable papers on the IGCSE list.

English as a Second Language (Cambridge 0510 and 0511)

Core and Extended

Taken by many students on the east coast, and often the grade that decides whether a sixth-form or university application clears a language requirement. The listening and speaking components are the two most commonly underprepared, because they are the hardest to revise alone and the easiest to rehearse with a tutor on video.

Economics (Cambridge 0455, Pearson 4EC1)

Single tier

The diagrams are the marks. A correctly labelled, correctly shifted curve with a written explanation of the mechanism earns more than two paragraphs of accurate prose. Data-response questions reward reading the stimulus carefully, which is a skill rather than a topic and responds well to weekly practice.

Business Studies (Cambridge 0450, Pearson 4BS1)

Single tier

The evaluative command terms decide the top band. Students who can define, explain and apply still cap out in the middle until somebody teaches them what a justified recommendation looks like in six lines. The case-study paper rewards planning time that most students do not take.

Computer Science (Cambridge 0478)

Single tier

Two very different halves: theory on data representation, networks and security, and a practical paper on algorithms and programming. Students strong in one are frequently weak in the other, and the pseudocode conventions in the written paper trip up confident coders who have only ever written in Python.

Arabic as a First Language (Cambridge 0508) and Arabic Foreign Language (Cambridge 0544)

Two separate syllabuses

Private schools in the UAE teach Arabic alongside the licensed international curriculum under the federal rules, and the two Cambridge routes are not interchangeable. Which one a student sits depends on background and school placement, and the gap between the two in reading demand is wide enough that moving between them mid-course rarely works without support.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways of booking, each suited to a different problem. The format matters less than the diagnosis behind it: a student who has lost a topic needs rebuilding, and a student who knows the content but writes it badly needs paper practice, and those are not the same number of hours.

Weekly one-to-one, same tutor, same slot

The default for a subject that needs to move over a term. One scheduled hour a week with the same tutor, working through the specification in order rather than chasing whatever was hardest in school that week. Progress is visible in about five weeks because the question sets are marked and kept, so the same error either stops appearing or it does not.

  • Fixed weekday slot on Gulf Standard Time, set around the bus and the school day
  • Written notes and a marked question set after each session
  • Specification-order coverage, not week-by-week homework rescue
  • Tier and board confirmed before the first paid lesson

Paired sessions for two subjects

Two subjects in one evening, usually maths plus a science, taught by one tutor where the overlap is real or by two in consecutive slots where it is not. It suits students whose problem is exam technique across the board rather than content in one place, and it suits families managing one screen and one quiet room.

  • Two 50-minute blocks back to back rather than one long sitting
  • Shared written record so both subjects are reviewed together
  • Works for maths and physics, or chemistry and biology, more than for unrelated pairs
  • Reviewed after a month to check neither subject is being starved

Short pre-exam blocks

A fixed number of sessions bought for the run-up to a series, built entirely around past papers and the published mark schemes. No new content unless a diagnostic shows a gap that is cheap to close. The point is to raise the mark the student already deserves by fixing how answers are written and how time is spent in the room.

  • Four to eight sessions with a stated end date, not a rolling booking
  • Timed questions marked against the board's own criteria
  • A per-paper plan rather than a per-topic plan
  • Honest early advice when a block is too short to change the grade

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Fujairah

01

The four things a Fujairah family is actually choosing between

An IGCSE tutor in Fujairah can mean four different arrangements, and the headline hourly rate is the least useful way to tell them apart. What separates them is who teaches, whether that person is planning against the right specification, and how much of the hour you pay for is spent teaching. A visiting tutor at AED 250 an hour who spends ninety minutes in the car has a real cost per contact hour closer to the top of the market band, and the family absorbs that whether or not it appears on the invoice.

The school's own after-hours clinic is the cheapest and is frequently the right answer. It is run by a teacher who knows the scheme of work and the class, and it costs nothing or very little. Its limit is that it is a group, usually focused on the topic the class has just finished, and a student who lost the thread two terms ago will sit there politely while the gap stays where it is. A tuition centre is the next step up: structured, supervised and often good value for a mainstream subject, but taught in a group at a fixed pace, and the subject list is limited to whatever the centre can staff in Fujairah city.

A freelance tutor who drives in from Sharjah or Dubai gives you one-to-one attention and a person in the room. The trade is the travel. Rates for visiting tuition in the UAE run higher than online rates precisely because the travel is priced in, the tutor's availability is limited to a window that makes the drive worthwhile, and the pool of people willing to make that drive is small enough that the subject match is whatever is available rather than whatever is needed. One-to-one over video removes the drive and widens the pool to anyone who teaches the specification, which is the whole of the argument for it.

The table below is the comparison in one view. Rates are market bands from published sources rather than IB Gram's prices, and they are set out that way deliberately: the honest version of this comparison names what the market charges and lets a parent decide, rather than inventing a figure that makes one column win.

Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel: the question to settle before lesson one

IGCSE is a family of qualifications, not a single one. Cambridge International and Pearson Edexcel each publish international GCSEs across the same subject list, and a school chooses per subject. It is entirely normal for a Fujairah school to enter Cambridge for the sciences and Pearson for mathematics, which means a family can be dealing with two boards, two sets of paper conventions and two entry calendars inside one child's timetable.

The content overlap between the two boards is large. The structural differences are what cost marks. Paper counts differ, the way practical science is assessed differs, tier names differ, and the command-term vocabulary each board's mark schemes favour differs in ways that are invisible until a student's answers are read against the wrong criteria. A tutor who asks for the syllabus code in the first message is not being pedantic. They are preventing a term of competent teaching aimed at the wrong paper.

Finding the code is simpler than it sounds. It appears on the school's option booklet, on any past paper the department has issued, and on the statement of entry once entries are submitted. If none of those are to hand, the subject teacher will confirm it in a sentence. Ask for the code and the tier together, because the tier decision below depends on it, and both need to be fixed before a tuition plan is worth writing.

The table sets out five subjects where east-coast schools split between the two boards, with the practical consequence for a tutoring plan in each case. Syllabus and specification details should always be checked against the board's own pages at cambridgeinternational.org and qualifications.pearson.com, which publish the current documents and supersede anything restated elsewhere.

THE SAME SUBJECT, TWO BOARDS: CODES AND WHAT A TUTOR HAS TO CHANGE
SubjectCambridge syllabusPearson Edexcel specificationWhat a tutor plans differently
Mathematics0580 (Core and Extended)4MA1 (Foundation and Higher)Tier boundaries and the grade ceiling attached to each sit differently, so the tier conversation has to happen on the board's own terms
Physics06254PH1Practical assessment arrangements differ, which changes how much lesson time goes on experimental method and data handling
Chemistry06204CH1Required practical work and the way observations are examined differ; organic and mole content is sequenced differently across the two years
Biology06104BI1Topic ordering and the weight given to extended written answers differ, so revision order follows the board rather than the textbook
First Language English05004EA1The set tasks and the balance between reading response and directed writing differ, so model answers from the wrong board actively mislead
03

Core or Extended, and the deadline that quietly closes the decision

  • Confirm the tier on the statement of entry, not from memory of what was discussed in Year 10
  • Sit one full timed paper at the higher tier before the entry window closes
  • Mark it against the board's published criteria rather than by impression
  • Treat a tier change after entries as an exam-officer question, with the board's rules in front of you

Cambridge splits many of its IGCSE syllabuses into a Core and an Extended tier, and Pearson splits its international GCSEs into Foundation and Higher. The tiers share a syllabus but not a paper: the Core or Foundation route covers less content and caps the grade available, while the Extended or Higher route covers more and reaches the full range. Most of the difficult conversations a tutor has with east-coast families in Year 11 are about this, and most of them happen later than they should.

The decision is not primarily about ability. It is about the realistic number of weeks left, the student's current command of the foundations the harder papers assume, and what the grade is for. A student who needs a particular mathematics grade to clear a sixth-form entry requirement has a different problem from one who needs a pass and a lot of confidence. The wrong tier is expensive in both directions: an Extended entry that collapses under content pressure wastes a year, and a Core entry taken defensively can close a door that was still open in October.

The part families miss is that the decision has a deadline, and the deadline is the entry. Once a school submits entries for a series, the tier is fixed on the statement of entry, and changing it afterwards is a conversation with the exam officer against the board's own amendment rules rather than a conversation with the teacher. Cambridge publishes a final entry date for each series months ahead of the papers, so the practical moment to settle the tier is the term before entries close, not the term the papers are sat.

What that means for a tuition plan is simple. If the tier is still genuinely open, the first block of lessons should be aimed at the evidence that decides it: a timed Extended paper under real conditions, marked against the published criteria, early enough to act on. A tutor who tells you which tier your child should take without seeing a marked paper is guessing, and so is anybody else who does it from a report comment alone.

04

What IGCSE tuition costs around Fujairah, with the bands attributed

Three of the six most visible tutoring pages in this market publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars, which is not the currency a UAE family transacts in. That silence is the reason parents end up comparing a centre package against a per-hour freelance rate against a monthly subscription and getting nowhere. The bands below are market rates, taken from what providers in this market publish and from Bestimate's Dubai tutoring cost table, and they are set out so a Fujairah family can place any quote they receive on a scale.

Read the table as ranges rather than prices. A rate near the bottom of a band usually means a university student or a generalist; a rate near the top usually means a subject specialist with a long record on one specification. Neither is automatically right. For a Year 10 student who has drifted in one topic, a careful generalist at the lower end may close the gap perfectly well. For an Extended-tier student eight weeks from a series, the hours are too few to spend on anyone who does not know the paper intimately.

The figure that actually matters is cost per contact hour, and it is not the headline rate. A visiting tutor whose band is AED 200 to 500 per hour is also absorbing travel to the east coast, which shows up either as a higher rate, a minimum booking of two hours, or a narrow availability window. A monthly package of eight online sessions quoted around AED 799 works out very differently per hour from a package of four two-hour visits quoted at AED 1,599 to 1,799, and the comparison only becomes honest once both are divided down.

IB Gram does not publish a price list on these pages, and the reason is not coyness. The rate depends on subject, tier and how many weeks are left, and quoting a single number would be less useful than the bands above. The trial lesson is the practical way through it: one 45-minute session, no card details, after which you get a written view of what the subject actually needs and a quote against that.

Entry deadlines, zone timetables and the series counted backwards

No competitor page in this market names an exam series, an entry deadline or a results date. That is a strange gap, because the calendar is the thing that decides whether a tuition plan is realistic. A family starting in October has a different set of options from a family starting in February, and the difference is not motivation. It is the number of weeks before the papers, and whether the entry has already been submitted.

Cambridge runs its international GCSE, O Level and International A Level examinations in a June series and a November series. Those two windows are the whole calendar for a Fujairah candidate. The February window that sometimes surfaces in search results is offered to India only and is not available here, and the Checkpoint tests that run in March, May and October belong to Primary and Lower Secondary, not to IGCSE, so neither belongs in a Fujairah family's planning. What the June and November pair gives you is two decisions instead of one: June is the main series, November is the honest resit route for the one subject that did not land, and a plan built in October is really a plan for June with November held in reserve. Entries for each series close months before the first paper, and the exact final entry date is published by Cambridge to centres rather than to families, so the date that governs your plan is the one on the statement of entry from your child's exam centre. Ask for it, then count backwards from the papers rather than forwards from today.

There is a detail in Cambridge's own guidance that matters specifically to families on this coast. Every exam centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, each with its own version of the timetable, and Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version for your zone and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong zone timetable. If your child is a private candidate, or sits at a centre in a different emirate from the school, confirm the zone with the centre rather than reading a timetable found online.

Pearson Edexcel runs its International GCSE examinations in May/June and November each year. Its November 2026 final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026; June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson also publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, which is why every date in the table below should be checked against the board's live timetable page rather than treated as settled.

Who regulates the school, and who licenses the tutor

  • The school's regulator and the tutor's permit are different things with different authorities
  • Fujairah's private schools are supervised federally by the Ministry of Education
  • The MoHRE private tuition work permit is free of charge and valid for two years
  • No fine schedule is published, so no page can honestly quote an amount
  • Ask whether a tutor holds the permit; a legitimate tutor will answer plainly

These are two separate questions and parents often merge them. The emirate authority regulates the school. A federal ministry route licenses the individual tutor. Neither of them licenses, approves or endorses a tutoring platform, and any page telling you otherwise is making a claim it cannot support.

On the school side, the UAE government's own guidance sets out the map clearly. Dubai's private schools sit with the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which is described as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain sit with the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools there. Sharjah's private education is regulated by the Sharjah Private Education Authority, and Ras Al Khaimah's by its Department of Knowledge. For Fujairah, along with Ajman and Umm Al Quwain, the Ministry of Education plays the supervisory role for private schools. That is the whole map, and most tutoring pages in this market name none of it.

On the tutor side, private tutoring in the UAE is a permitted activity rather than an unregulated one. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is administered through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. The government's own guidance states that the permit is granted free of charge for two years, and that eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. The ministry's service page for it is listed as issuance of a new work permit for private tutor licensing, applied for through the ministry's smart app, website and e-services system, with a stated completion time of two working days and no fee shown.

Two practical consequences for a Fujairah family. First, individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are stated by the government to be subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no schedule of amounts is published, so treat any page quoting a specific figure with suspicion. Second, there are conduct conditions attached. Press reporting on Abu Dhabi's professional-ethics rules describes school staff being barred from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, with the permit's code of conduct carrying a similar restriction. If somebody offers you your child's own class teacher, privately, that is the arrangement to ask questions about.

07

Coursework, past papers and the line a tutor does not cross

One of the pages competing for this search sells finished Internal Assessments. That is worth stating plainly because it sets the standard a parent should hold every tutor to, including ours. Assessed work has to be the student's own. A tutor can teach the skill, question the argument, point at the criteria and mark a draft; the words on the page have to come from the student, and a tutor who offers anything else is offering the student a malpractice finding.

In practice the boundary is easier to hold than it sounds, because the useful help and the prohibited help look nothing alike. Useful help is teaching the technique a task requires, working through a comparable example that is not the student's own task, reading a draft and saying which criterion is thin and why, and teaching the student to check their own referencing. Prohibited help is supplying text, restructuring the piece for them, correcting it line by line until it is no longer theirs, or handing over a model answer close enough to the set task to be copied.

The same principle governs materials. Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables belong to the boards, and the honest way to use them is to reference them and link to the board's own site rather than to redistribute them. Cambridge and Pearson both publish current documents on their own pages, and a school's exam department can supply what a candidate is entitled to. A tutor whose selling point is a private library of papers is a copyright problem looking for a place to happen.

For a Fujairah family the practical test is what comes back after a lesson. Written notes, a marked question set with the criterion or mark-scheme point named against each loss, and a short statement of what to practise next are all evidence of teaching. A finished piece of work in your child's subject that your child did not write is evidence of something else.

Equivalency: what five IGCSEs have to show for the UAE route

Families on the British curriculum in the UAE eventually meet the Ministry of Education's equivalency process, and most tutoring pages in this market do not mention it at all. One page that ranks for these queries states that UAE candidates must take six IGCSE subjects. The published requirement, as reported from the Ministry's clarification, is five.

For the British track, the reported requirement is that students submit proof of one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level with the same grade, and that they pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects for that count, which is the detail families most often get wrong when planning a subject list.

The American track is reported differently and is listed here because east-coast families sometimes move between curricula. English proficiency on that route is reported as a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, with mathematics requiring at least 450 in the SAT Mathematics test before applying. For the International Baccalaureate, no points threshold should be taken from a tutoring page at all, including this one: verify it on the Ministry's own site or with the attestation authority before planning around a number.

Two cautions worth stating directly. Equivalency and attestation are processes the Ministry and the attestation authorities run; no tutoring provider performs them, speeds them up or guarantees an outcome, and IB Gram does not. And tutoring is not a requirement for equivalency, admission or progression. The only reason the process appears on this page is that knowing the five-subject rule in Year 10 occasionally changes which subjects a family enters, and that is a decision worth making with the correct number in front of you.

What happens when nobody covers the subject you need

  • Requests are matched to a syllabus code and tier, not to a subject name
  • If no tutor covers the code, the family is told instead of being matched sideways
  • Delivery is always one-to-one on live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time
  • An honest no about available hours is part of the trial lesson, not an afterthought

No tutoring provider in this market publishes a coverage limit, which is implausible on its face. Somebody always asks for a subject at a tier nobody on the books teaches, and what happens next is the most useful thing a parent can know in advance. On the east coast it happens more often than elsewhere, because the subject requests that arrive from Fujairah are frequently the ones the local school could not staff either.

The honest sequence runs like this. A request comes in for a named syllabus code at a named tier. If a tutor on the platform teaches that code, a match is offered with a trial lesson and the plan is written after the trial rather than before it. If nobody does, the family is told so rather than being matched to the nearest adjacent subject. A chemistry specialist who has never taught Cambridge 0478 Computer Science is not a computer science tutor, and pretending otherwise costs a family a term before it becomes obvious.

Where a specialist exists but not in the UAE, the lesson is still delivered the same way it always is: one-to-one over live video, scheduled to Gulf Standard Time so the slot sits in a Fujairah evening rather than somewhere inconvenient. This is worth saying because several providers in this market route UAE parents to a non-UAE phone number without mentioning where the teaching happens. The delivery model here is stated on every page: online, one-to-one, timed to the UAE school day, with no home visits anywhere in the UAE.

The last part of the sequence is the awkward one. If a family comes to us eight weeks before a series asking for a tier change and a full rebuild in two subjects, the right answer is sometimes that the hours do not exist. Saying so costs a booking and saves a family several thousand dirhams spent on a plan that was never going to land. That conversation happens in the trial lesson, which is the point of having one before money changes hands.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Fujairah

Fujairah's communities feed a small number of private schools, and which school a community feeds usually decides which exam board a family is dealing with. The notes below are about that: the board, the cohort size and the practical school-day constraint in each place.

Fujairah city

The administrative and commercial centre, and where most of the emirate's private-school places sit. Families here usually have a genuine choice of school, which in practice means a genuine choice of exam board, so the first question for a tutor is which specification the school entered rather than which subject is weak.

Sakamkam

A residential district immediately inland from the city, feeding the Fujairah city schools. Sessions here are shaped by the school bus run rather than by distance: the practical earliest start is after the bus arrives and a meal has happened, which usually puts the first viable weekday slot in the late afternoon.

Merashid

Set between the city and the coast road, with households split across more than one school. Where two children in one family sit different boards, a single tutor covering both needs to hold two paper structures in mind, and it is worth booking them as two separate subject matches rather than one.

Al Faseel

Along the coastal strip north of the port, with easy access to the city schools and to the Sharjah road. Families here are the ones most likely to be weighing a drive to a tuition centre against lessons on video, because the drive is short enough to look reasonable on a map and long enough to cost an hour of a school night.

Al Gurfa

A quieter residential pocket where the nearest tuition centre is a deliberate journey rather than a detour. The pattern here is two subjects taught in one evening block, which works for revision and works badly for a subject that needs rebuilding from the foundations up.

Dibba Al-Fujairah

The northern enclave on the Gulf of Oman, where the school options are fewest and the regulatory picture is genuinely mixed because the wider Dibba area is divided between administrations. For IGCSE purposes what matters is which authority licenses the specific school and which board that school entered.

Qidfa and Mirbah

Coastal villages between the city and Dibba, served by the highway rather than by a local school cluster. The commute to any in-person option is the longest in the emirate, which is why these are the households for which video lessons change the subject list available rather than just the convenience.

Masafi

Inland at the mountain pass, closer to the Ras Al Khaimah and Sharjah road network than to Fujairah city. Students from here sometimes attend school in a different emirate entirely, which means the regulator, the board and the term dates can all differ from their neighbours' in the same village.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Fujairah

Fujairah city and the east coast

The private schools inside the emirate itself. Cohorts are smaller than in Dubai, subject lists are shorter, and a single teacher often carries a subject alone across both IGCSE years. Students we support attend schools in this group; none of them is a partner, client or sponsor of IB Gram.

  • Our Own English High School, Fujairah
  • Fujairah Private Academy
  • Al Ameer English School, Fujairah

Sharjah and the northern emirates

Where east-coast families look when a subject or a tier is not available locally, and where some Masafi and Dibba students attend school outright. These schools sit under different regulators from Fujairah's, which changes inspection reporting and sometimes term dates, though not the exam board's own deadlines.

  • Victoria International School of Sharjah
  • Australian International School, Sharjah
  • Sharjah English School
  • RAK Academy
  • Scholars Indian School, Ras Al Khaimah

Schools are named here as context for the curriculum and board mix on the east coast. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement arrangement with any school named on this page.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the syllabus code and the tier

The first message that is actually useful contains the subject, the board, the syllabus code and the tier, plus the series the student is entered for. All four sit on the school's option booklet or the statement of entry. With them, a match takes one conversation; without them, it takes three and often lands on the wrong specification.

  2. 02

Share the most recent marked work

A mock paper with the examiner's or teacher's marks on it is worth more than a report comment, because it shows where the marks went rather than how the student seemed. A photograph of two or three marked pages is enough to tell a specialist whether the problem is content, technique or time management.

  3. 03

    Take the 45-minute trial lesson

One free trial session per family, 45 minutes, no card details required. It is a diagnostic rather than a demonstration: the tutor works through a timed question with your child and then writes down what the subject actually needs and how many weeks it will take. If the answer is that tuition is not the right purchase, that gets written down too.

  4. 04

Agree a plan with a stated end point

A block of lessons with a number, a weekly slot on Gulf Standard Time and a review date. The plan names the papers it is aimed at and the topics it will cover in order. Open-ended bookings with no review date are how families end up two terms and several thousand dirhams in without a clear account of what changed.

  5. 05

Review against marked work, not impressions

Every session produces a marked question set, and those sets are the review. After about five weeks it is visible whether a particular error has stopped appearing. If it has not, the plan changes or the tutor does; a review that consists of asking whether everyone is happy is not a review.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The specification, not the subject

Tutors are matched to the syllabus code and tier your child is entered for, because Cambridge 0625 and Pearson 4PH1 are different papers with different practical arrangements. Getting this right before the first lesson is the cheapest improvement available in the whole arrangement, and it is the question most tutoring enquiries never ask.

A pool that is not limited by driving distance

The constraint on east-coast tutoring has always been who is willing to drive over the mountains. Teaching over live video removes that constraint, which matters most for the subjects a Fujairah school could not staff either. A student taking Additional Mathematics 0606 in a cohort of three is the clearest example.

Written evidence after every session

Notes, a marked question set, and the mark-scheme point named against each loss. It is how a parent who was not in the room can tell teaching from supervision, and it is the record a review is built on five weeks later. Nothing about progress is left to a general impression of how things are going.

Rates described as the market's, never invented

Every AED figure on this page is a published market band with the provider named and the date given. IB Gram's own rate depends on subject, tier and the weeks remaining, and it is quoted after the trial lesson rather than guessed at beforehand. No page here publishes a statistic without saying where it came from.

Coursework help that stays inside the rules

A tutor teaches the technique, questions the reasoning, names the criterion that is thin and marks a draft. The student produces every word of their own assessed work. This is a boundary one page competing for this search does not hold, and holding it is not a marketing position but the condition of the student keeping their grade.

Limits stated before you pay

No tutor for a code nobody teaches, no promise of a grade, no claim of regulator approval that IB Gram does not hold, and no tutor at a UAE address. Those four statements cost bookings. They also mean that what is promised on this page is what arrives in the lesson.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Fujairah: your questions answered

Which IGCSE board does my child's school in Fujairah actually use?+

Ask the subject teacher or check the option booklet; the board and the syllabus code appear on both, and on the statement of entry once entries are submitted. It is normal for one school to use Cambridge for the sciences and Pearson Edexcel for mathematics, so the answer can differ subject by subject within one timetable. The code matters because paper structures, practical arrangements and tier names differ between the boards. A tutor planning against Cambridge 0620 for a student entered for Pearson 4CH1 will teach chemistry competently and prepare the wrong paper, which is a waste nobody notices until a mock.

Is a tuition centre in Fujairah city better value than one-to-one online lessons?+

For a mainstream subject where your child needs structure and company, a centre can be very good value, and the group format is part of why the hourly cost is lower. It stops being the right answer in two situations: when the subject or tier is not on the centre's list, which happens often on the east coast, and when the problem is a specific gap from an earlier term that a group moving at a set pace will never revisit. Compare on cost per contact hour and on whether anybody is marking your child's own written work against the board's criteria.

What does an IGCSE tutor cost around Fujairah compared with Dubai rates?+

Published market bands in the UAE run roughly AED 45 to 150 for budget or university-student online tutors, AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online subject tutor, AED 180 to 500 for visiting one-to-one with travel included, and AED 200 to 450 or more for an IGCSE or A Level specialist. Those bands are national rather than emirate-specific. What changes on the east coast is the visiting column: travel over the Hajar mountains pushes a visiting rate towards the top of its band or attaches a two-hour minimum. Online rates are unaffected by where the student lives.

Can my child move from the Core tier to Extended during Year 11?+

Up to a point, and the point is the entry deadline. Before entries are submitted, the tier is a teaching decision and a tutor can test it properly by having the student sit a full higher-tier paper under timed conditions and marking it against the published criteria. Once the school has submitted entries, the tier is fixed on the statement of entry, and any change becomes an exam-officer question governed by the board's amendment rules. Cambridge publishes a final entry date months before each series, so settle the tier the term before entries close rather than the term the papers are sat.

How many IGCSE subjects should we book tuition for at the same time?+

One, in most cases, and two at most. A weekly hour in a single subject with marked work in between produces visible change in about five weeks. Three subjects at once usually means none of them gets the practice time between lessons that makes the lesson worth anything, and it turns a plan into a rota. If three subjects genuinely look weak, the better first purchase is one diagnostic session in each to find out which is content, which is technique and which is time management, because those three need different numbers of hours.

Is the after-school clinic at school enough, or do we still need a tutor?+

Often it is enough, and it should be tried first because it costs little and is run by somebody who knows the class. Its limits are structural rather than a matter of quality. A clinic is a group, it usually works on the topic the class has just covered, and it rarely goes back to a gap opened two terms earlier. If your child comes home from the clinic saying it was fine but the same marks keep coming back, the problem is probably something the clinic format cannot reach, and a one-to-one diagnostic is the next cheapest step.

Who regulates private schools in Fujairah, and does that change how we choose a tutor?+

The Ministry of Education plays the supervisory role for private schools in Fujairah, along with Ajman and Umm Al Quwain, while Dubai sits with KHDA, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain with ADEK, Sharjah with SPEA and Ras Al Khaimah with its Department of Knowledge. For choosing a tutor it changes little directly, because school regulation and tutor licensing are separate systems. It matters when a family is comparing schools across emirates, or when a Masafi or Dibba student attends school under a different authority from their neighbours, since inspection reporting and sometimes term dates follow the regulator.

Is Additional Mathematics 0606 worth taking at a small east-coast school?+

It is excellent preparation for A Level Mathematics, because it introduces calculus, vectors and matrices a year early. It is also unforgiving of weak algebra, and at a small school it is often taught to a handful of students by a teacher already carrying the main mathematics course. The honest test is the student's current fluency with indices, surds and rearranging formulae rather than their enthusiasm. If that fluency is solid, 0606 pays for itself in Year 12. If it is not, the same hours spent securing the Extended 0580 grade are worth more.

What paperwork should I ask a private tutor on the east coast to show me?+

Ask whether they hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. The government states that it is granted free of charge for two years and lists eligible applicants including registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. A legitimate tutor will answer plainly. Also ask which syllabus codes they have taught and for how long, and ask to see the written feedback they give after a lesson, since that document tells you more about the teaching than any certificate will.

My son sits Cambridge and his cousin sits Edexcel. Does one tutor cover both?+

Sometimes, and you should ask rather than assume. A tutor who has taught both specifications in a subject can hold the two paper structures apart and will say so without hesitation. A tutor who has only ever taught one will teach the other reasonably on content and miss the structural differences that cost marks, particularly in practical science assessment and in English, where the set tasks differ. If the two students are at different stages as well as different boards, two separate matches almost always works better than one tutor splitting an evening.

When do Cambridge entries close for the June series, and who submits them?+

The exam centre submits entries, not the family, and Cambridge publishes the final entry date for each series to centres months ahead of the papers. For the June series that means the entry closes in the spring, roughly a term before the first paper, which is why a tier decision taken in April is really a decision taken for June. We will not quote a day and month here, because Cambridge sets it per series and your centre is the only authoritative source: ask your school's exam officer for the final entry date on your child's statement of entry and put that date in the calendar. The same question is worth asking about the November series, which is the resit route. Check the current dates on cambridgeinternational.org.

What should the very first session with an IGCSE tutor produce?+

A document, not a feeling. After a 45-minute diagnostic you should receive a written statement of which topics are secure, which are not, whether the losses are content, technique or timing, and roughly how many weeks the gap needs. It should name the syllabus code and tier it is planning against. If the first session produces only a cheerful report that your child is lovely and will be fine, you have bought a demonstration rather than a diagnosis, and you still do not know what you are paying for.

Do you run small-group IGCSE classes for students in Fujairah?+

The model here is one-to-one, with an option for paired sessions covering two subjects in one evening for the same student. Group classes are not offered, and that is a limitation worth knowing before you enquire: group formats are genuinely cheaper per hour and suit students who are on track and want structured revision company. What one-to-one buys instead is diagnosis and marked feedback on your own child's written work. For a student who is on track and wants company, a centre group in Fujairah city may be better value than anything on this page.

How can a tutor help with IGCSE coursework without crossing the honesty line?+

By teaching the skill the task needs, working through a comparable example that is not the student's own task, reading a draft and naming which criterion is thin and why, and teaching the student to check their own referencing. The student produces every word that is submitted. What a tutor must never do is supply text, restructure the piece on the student's behalf, or hand over a model close enough to the set task to be copied. One page competing for this search sells finished assessed work, which puts the student's qualification at risk rather than helping it.

Will the tutor follow my daughter's school scheme of work or their own plan?+

Both, in a stated order. The specification sets the destination and the school's scheme of work sets the sequence your daughter is actually living in, so a sensible tutor asks for the scheme early and keeps the lesson order close to it. The exception is a gap from an earlier term: chasing this week's homework forever leaves the gap in place. In that case the tutor says plainly that the next three sessions go backwards before they go forwards, and writes down what that costs in school-week terms.

What happens if my child's school changes exam board mid-course?+

It is uncommon but not unheard of, usually when staffing changes or a department reviews its entries. The practical effect is that the content already covered mostly transfers while the paper structure, the practical arrangements and sometimes the tier names do not. Ask the school for the new syllabus code and the series it applies to, then have a tutor audit the difference rather than restart. Most of the work is in retraining how answers are written and in covering the content the new specification includes that the old one did not.

Start with the comparison, then test the fourth option

If the school clinic or a centre group in Fujairah city is the right answer for your child, that is a good outcome and it costs less than anything else on this page. The comparison table exists so you can reach that conclusion with the numbers in front of you. If the subject is not on a local list, or the tier decision is still open, or the marks keep coming back the same after a term of trying, the fourth option is worth testing: one 45-minute trial lesson, no card details, a specialist matched to your child's syllabus code, and a written account of what the subject actually needs before anybody asks you for money.
