Experienced IGCSE Tutor in the UAE

An experienced IGCSE tutor in the UAE is one who has already taken a cohort through a full series: entries, forecast grades, the practical component, results day and the resit decision that follows it. That experience shows up as dates, not adjectives. Every lesson IB Gram arranges for a UAE family is one-to-one and live online, timed to Gulf Standard Time, and the plan behind it is counted backwards from the entry deadline your child's school has already met or is about to meet.

  • One-to-one lessons over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time
  • Tutors matched on the syllabus code, not the subject name
  • Plans counted backwards from your centre's published entry deadline
  • Feedback on your child's own work; the words stay theirs

IB & IGCSE in the UAE

Experience in IGCSE is counted in series, not in years

Ten years in a classroom and ten IGCSE series are not the same quantity. Most UAE centres enter their main cohort for one series a year, usually June, so a school teacher's decade covers roughly ten sets of entries, ten mock windows and ten results days. A tutor who also prepares November candidates and private candidates for the March series sees the calendar from more angles in less time. When a family asks for an experienced IGCSE tutor in the UAE, the useful question is not how long someone has taught. It is how many times they have stood at each of the dates that cannot be moved.

Those dates are public and they are not negotiable. Cambridge International runs IGCSE in a June series and a November series, with a March series as well, and it allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, warning that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for the zone and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after reading the wrong one. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE sits in May or June and again in November. For the Cambridge March 2027 series the board published a final entry deadline of 27 November 2026, forecast grades due 27 February 2027, and the exam period running 3 February to 4 March 2027. The entry closes before the exam period even begins.

That geometry is what separates a tutor who has run the year from one who has not. An inexperienced plan works through the syllabus in the order the textbook prints it and arrives at paper technique in April. An experienced plan reads the statement of entry first, notes which components carry the coursework and practical marks and when the school wants them, and schedules the irreversible things first. The tier decision, the coursework deadline and the entry itself all have owners who are not the tutor and not the parent, and every one of them closes earlier than families expect.

Delivery matters less than people think and more than providers admit. Every lesson IB Gram arranges for a family in the Emirates is one-to-one and delivered over live video. Home visits are part of what we do in India, not here, and no tutor is sent to a UAE address. The reason is not cost. A family in Fujairah looking for someone who has taken Chemistry 0620 candidates through four series is choosing from a national pool rather than from whoever is within a half-hour drive, and in the final term the hour that would have gone to the drive goes to a timed paper instead.

What follows is the IGCSE year laid out backwards, from the last paper to the first conversation in Year 10, with the market rates UAE providers publish, the permit a tutor must hold, the five windows that open around results day, and the Ministry of Education equivalency rule that reaches back into subject choices made two years earlier. Every figure is attributed to whoever published it and dated. Where the source is a board, the official timetable is the thing to read before acting, because provisional dates get revised and ours are not a substitute for your centre's.

Four stages matter to a UAE family searching for IGCSE help, and they are not all taught the same way. Two are boards, one is the year before the course, and one is the eighteen months after it. The tutor who is experienced in one of them is not automatically experienced in the next.

CIEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE

Cambridge IGCSE is the route most British-curriculum centres in the Emirates enter. Subjects are identified by a four-digit code - 0580 Mathematics, 0625 Physics, 0620 Chemistry - and several are tiered, with a Core entry carrying a lower ceiling than an Extended one. The syllabus is revised on a published cycle, so a tutor working from a specification two versions old will teach content that has moved paper or dropped out. The code on the statement of entry, not the subject name, is what fixes the content.

Cambridge allocates each centre to one of six administrative zones and publishes a separate timetable version for each. A Dubai centre and a cousin's centre in another country can sit the same syllabus on different days. The board states plainly that it cannot accept responsibility for a candidate who misses an exam after the wrong zone timetable was used, which makes checking the version a parental job and not only an exams officer's.

PEIAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE uses its own codes - 4MA1 for Mathematics A, 4PH1 for Physics, 4CH1 for Chemistry - and its own tiering where the subject has it. Exams are available in May or June and again in November each year. The specifications and the assessment structures are not interchangeable with Cambridge, so past-paper work on the wrong board teaches question styles your child will not meet and command terms used slightly differently.

The November series is the part UAE families use most and understand least. The November 2026 final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026, and the November 2025 series released results to students on 22 January 2026. That turnaround is what makes a November entry a usable repair for a single grade rather than a full year lost, provided the entry is made in the summer window rather than discussed in October.

Y9Ages 13-14 · Year 9

Year 9, the year before the course

Year 9 is where subject and tier decisions are shaped, and it is the cheapest point in the whole sequence to change anything. A student who leaves Year 9 secure in algebraic manipulation and in writing to a command term starts Year 10 doing IGCSE work rather than catching up on the arithmetic underneath it. Most families do not think about tutoring this early, and the ones who do spend fewer hours later.

In the Emirates, Year 9 is also where the Ministry of Education equivalency question begins, because the five subjects the Ministry counts are drawn from the set a student is about to choose. Arabic and Islamic Education are not included among those five, which means a nine-subject timetable can still leave a thin count if the options are chosen without that rule in view. It is a two-minute conversation in Year 9 and a problem in Year 11.

POST16Ages 16-17 · Year 12 or DP1

IGCSE into A Level or the IB Diploma

The grades decide the next route, and the gap between an IGCSE grade and the first term of a post-16 course is real. A Core-tier Mathematics award rarely supports a Higher Level or an A Level in a quantitative subject, and a comfortable grade 6 in a science often still leaves a student short on the extended-response writing their new course asks for in week three. Support here is bridging, not revision.

Conditional offers from UAE and overseas sixth forms frequently hang on one grade, which is why the November series and the review-of-marking window both matter so much in August. A family deciding in September that a resit is needed has usually already missed the entry. The sequence has to be mapped before results day, not after it.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the IGCSE subjects UAE families most often ask for by name, with the code that fixes the content and the place marks are usually lost. A tutor who has taken the subject through a series can name the second of those without being asked.

Mathematics (0580 / 4MA1)

Cambridge Core and Extended; Pearson Foundation and Higher

The tier decision lives here more than anywhere else. Extended carries topics Core never meets, and a Core entry caps the award. Marks go on method lines left unwritten, on rounding instructions ignored, and on the last two parts of a structured question where the candidate ran out of planned time rather than understanding.

Physics (0625 / 4PH1)

Core and Extended, or single tier by specification

Practical skills are assessed in writing. Candidates lose marks describing a method without a control variable, misreading a graph axis prefix, and giving a numerical answer without a unit. The alternative to practical paper rewards a student who has planned experiments on paper, which is exactly what can be taught over a shared screen.

Chemistry (0620 / 4CH1)

Core and Extended, or single tier by specification

Moles arithmetic and organic reaction conditions take most of the lost marks, followed by the qualitative analysis tables candidates try to recall rather than read. A tutor who has marked the paper knows which stated observations earn a mark and which are description without chemistry in them.

Biology (0610 / 4BI1)

Core and Extended, or single tier by specification

The content is learnable and the marks are lost in language. Command terms separate describe from explain from suggest, and a candidate who answers all three the same way scores on one of them. Data-handling questions on unfamiliar organisms reward process, not memory, and that process can be drilled.

First Language English (0500 / 4EA1)

Single tier; coursework route where the centre offers it

Directed writing and the comparative or summary task carry most of the swing. Candidates lose marks on register, on lifting phrasing from the passage, and on a response that answers the content of the question but not its form. Where a centre has chosen a coursework route, the school's internal deadline arrives well before the board's.

Business Studies (0450 / 4BS1)

Single tier in most centres

Case-study application is the whole paper. Marks go to candidates who quote the stimulus back as evidence and to those who evaluate rather than list. A strong student who writes general business theory with no reference to the company in front of them is scoring in the bottom band of the mark scheme.

Computer Science (0478 / 4CP0)

Single tier; programming assessed inside the written papers

Pseudocode and trace tables are where the marks are, not the language a student happens to know. Candidates lose marks writing syntactically valid code that answers a different question, and on logic questions where a truth table would have taken less time than the paragraph they wrote instead.

Economics (0455 / 4EC1)

Single tier

Diagram accuracy earns marks on its own: labelled axes, a shifted curve and a new equilibrium identified. Beyond that, the evaluation marks go to candidates who say which effect dominates and why, rather than listing advantages and disadvantages and stopping at the comma.

Additional and Further Mathematics

Taken alongside IGCSE Mathematics in stronger sets

Entered by centres that want a bridge into A Level or Higher Level work. It is the clearest example of why tutor supply is thin in any single emirate: a UAE centre may have two sets in the whole school, and a tutor who has taken candidates through it is rare enough that a national pool over video is the only sensible place to look.

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies

Mandatory alongside the licensed curriculum in Dubai private schools

KHDA requires these in all Dubai private schools regardless of the international curriculum a school is licensed to teach, with separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students and specified languages of instruction. They sit in the same Year 11 week as IGCSE revision, which makes them a timetabling problem as much as a teaching one.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three shapes of booking, decided almost entirely by how many weeks remain before paper one. The same tutor and the same syllabus sit behind all three; what changes is how much of the course is still open to being rebuilt rather than only revised.

Weekly one-to-one across Years 10 and 11

One session a week per subject, running with the school's scheme of work rather than ahead of it or behind it. This is the only booking shape where the tier decision, the coursework calendar and the forecast grade are all still in play, which makes it the cheapest version of the same outcome. It is also the version where a mock result becomes information rather than a shock.

  • Content taught in the school's order, with paper technique layered on top
  • Coursework and practical skills banked while there is still time to redo work
  • A written plan refreshed after each mock and each school report
  • Tier evidence gathered before the entry deadline rather than argued after it

A counted block before a series

A fixed number of hours, planned backwards from the first paper and allocated by where the marks actually are rather than by which topics feel uncomfortable. Twelve weeks out this can still reshape a grade across two or three subjects. Six weeks out it should concentrate on one subject and one component, because spreading the same hours across four subjects at that point buys very little in any of them.

  • Hours allocated per component weighting, not per topic
  • Timed sections under exam conditions from the first session
  • A mock script read question by question before anything is planned
  • One command term at a time, with the mark scheme visible

Post-results: review, resit or move on

The fortnight after results day carries three decisions on short clocks, and they interact. A review of marking may not conclude before the next series' entry closes, so the resit entry sometimes has to be made as insurance. Sessions in this window are short, frequent and aimed at whichever of the three routes the family chooses, including the bridging work for a post-16 course that starts in days.

  • Statement of results checked against the statement of entry on the day
  • Mark breakdown requested from the centre before any money is spent
  • A November entry treated as insurance while a review is pending
  • Bridging work into A Level or the Diploma where the grade stands

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in the UAE

01

What a UAE family is really testing when they ask how experienced a tutor is

The question behind the question is whether this person has been in the room for the parts of the year that cannot be repeated. Teaching content well is a skill most graduates of a subject can learn. Knowing that the school's coursework deadline sits three weeks before the board's, that the forecast grade is formed from a mock marked in January, and that a Core entry closes the ceiling in a way no amount of April revision reopens - that is a different kind of knowledge, and it is only acquired by having been surprised by it once.

So the useful test is not a number of years. It is a conversion. Ask how many series the tutor has taken candidates through in your child's subject and board, and how many of those were November or March rather than June. Ask what they do in the first session with a statement of entry. Ask what they would check if a mock came back eleven marks below a forecast. A tutor with four series behind them in 0620 will answer those three questions in specifics within a minute; a tutor with none will answer with method and philosophy.

The table below converts the claims providers actually make into the thing a parent can use. None of these claims is dishonest in itself. The problem is that they are not comparable to each other, and the UAE market prices them as though they were, with published rates running from AED 33 an hour to AED 650 an hour for what is described in the same four words.

The IGCSE course counted backwards: twenty-four months on one page

Start at the last paper and walk backwards. The thing families discover too late is that the sequence is not a gentle ramp with an exam at the end. It is a series of gates, each with a different owner, and each one shuts earlier than the one you were worrying about. The tier gate shuts at the entry deadline. The coursework gate shuts at a school deadline set before the board's. The forecast-grade gate shuts when a mock is marked in January, months before anything a family would call revision has begun.

The ownership column is the one to read twice. A tutor owns none of these gates. A parent owns almost none of them. The centre's exams officer owns the entry, the subject teacher owns the forecast and the coursework mark, and the board owns the timetable and the zone it belongs to. What an experienced tutor adds is a calendar that treats those owners as fixed points and arranges teaching around them, and the habit of asking for the documents that prove what the fixed points are.

The windows below are expressed in months before paper one of a June series, because that is the sitting most UAE centres enter. For a November series, subtract roughly seven months from every row and expect the summer holiday to land inside the heaviest preparation block. For the Cambridge March series, the entry deadline falls in the autumn of the previous year - the board published 27 November 2026 for a March 2027 sitting - which puts the gate before most families have thought about the exam at all.

The syllabus code is the first question, and the statement of entry is the only answer

A subject name tells a tutor almost nothing. Physics could be Cambridge 0625 or Pearson 4PH1, Core or Extended, with or without a separate practical route, in a centre that sits in one of six Cambridge zones. Each of those combinations has different papers, different weightings and different question styles. Past-paper work on the wrong board is not neutral: it teaches command-term habits the real mark scheme does not reward and builds timing instincts for a paper your child will not sit.

The document that settles it is the statement of entry, which the centre issues ahead of the series and which lists the syllabus code, the components and the tier. Until that exists, the next best source is the exams officer, not the class teacher and not the school website, because the website usually names a curriculum rather than a specification. An experienced tutor asks for the statement of entry in the first message. A tutor who starts teaching without it is making an assumption on your child's behalf.

The mapping below is a starting point for the subjects UAE families ask about most. Treat it as orientation and confirm each code against the board's current specification, because specifications are revised on a cycle and a code can change its components between cohorts. The column that matters most is the last one: the component with a clock of its own, running ahead of every written paper, and the one families most often discover late.

Where the eleven weeks between the last paper and results day actually go

A June candidate finishes in the second half of June and hears nothing until late August. Pearson released June 2026 results to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026. That gap is roughly eleven weeks of silence during which most UAE families are out of the country, and the single most common mistake made in it is assuming that nothing is happening and therefore nothing needs arranging.

What is happening is marking, standardisation and the setting of grade boundaries for that series. Boundaries are fixed for the papers actually sat, not carried over from last year, which is the technical reason a mock boundary is a guide and never a promise. It is also why the honest answer to 'what grade will my child get' is a range with a method behind it rather than a number. A tutor who gives you a number is telling you about their confidence, not about the marking.

What a family can usefully do in those eleven weeks is short and specific. Know which day results arrive and who will be reachable in which time zone. Know the centre's process for releasing a mark breakdown by component. Know, before leaving, what the next series' entry deadline is and who can make the entry if the family is abroad. Those three answers take an afternoon in June and are close to impossible to assemble from a hotel in August, when the exams office is at its busiest.

05

Results day, and the five windows that open and shut around it

Results day is not an endpoint, it is the start of several short clocks running at once. Each has a different owner, and the two that matter most cannot be started by a parent at all: a review of marking is requested by the centre, not by a family, and an entry for the next series is made by a centre too. A family that spends results day deciding how to feel has usually spent the first of those clocks.

The order below is the order experience teaches. Before anything is paid for, check the statement of results against the statement of entry, component by component. A missing component, a wrong tier or an absent-marked paper is caught in that comparison and nowhere else, and it is a more common cause of an unexpected grade than a marking error. Then ask the centre for the mark breakdown, because knowing whether the loss sat in one paper or spread across all of them decides whether a review, a resit or neither is the sensible move.

Boards publish the deadline for each of these services per series, and the windows are measured in days rather than weeks. We do not publish the specific dates here because they change by series and by board; the centre's exams officer and the board's own enquiries-about-results page are the two places to get them. What an experienced tutor contributes is the sequencing - which clock to start first, and which decision can be made as insurance while another is still pending.

The November and March series, and what a second sitting costs in time

The IGCSE calendar has more doors than families assume, and the useful consequence is that a single disappointing grade rarely needs to cost a year. Cambridge runs a June series and a November series, with a March series as well, and it publishes key dates for each. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE sits in May or June and in November, with the November 2026 final timetable running from late October to 19 November 2026. The IGCSE November series is the door UAE families use most.

The arithmetic that matters is the arrival date of the new grade, not the exam date. Pearson's November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. A student who resits in November therefore starts Year 12 in September on a conditional basis and confirms it in January, which most sixth forms will accommodate if they are told in August. Cambridge gave 13 May 2027 for March 2027 results on Direct, with certificates in late June, which is why the March series suits a private candidate adding a subject ahead of a university application cycle rather than a mainstream cohort.

Two practical cautions. Not every subject or centre offers every series, and the Cambridge March series in particular is not universally available, so the first call is to the exams officer rather than to the board. And the entry deadline for the next series frequently falls before a review of marking on the last one concludes, which is why experienced families make the entry as insurance and withdraw if the review succeeds. That decision is easier to make in August with the whole sequence drawn out than in September with half of it discovered.

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies keep running through the exam term

In Dubai, Arabic, Islamic Education and Social and Moral Studies are mandatory in all private schools regardless of the international curriculum the school is licensed to teach, and KHDA's requirements were to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year. They do not pause for IGCSE revision. For a Year 11 student in April, that is several lesson periods a week that belong to subjects outside the series, in the term when every other hour is being counted.

There are structural details here that change what tutoring can even look like. KHDA requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and states that combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because the curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, with schools allowed to vary lesson length provided the weekly total is met, and advice that any mandatory-subject lesson should run at least 25 minutes.

The constraint most relevant to tutoring is about material. For these subjects, the use of any different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry is strictly prohibited. A tutor cannot simply bring a better worksheet to a Social Studies session the way they might to a Chemistry one. The honest offer is support with the school's own material, the language demands of it, and the study skills around it - and a frank statement that the content itself is set elsewhere. KHDA also requires that teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic hold the appropriate KHDA approval to teach those subjects in school, which is a school-level credential and not something a private tutor holds.

What the UAE market charges for experience, and when the money arrives too late

UAE providers publish rates across a range of more than twenty to one for what is advertised in the same words. The figures below are what each provider states, read in October 2026, and they are the market rather than our price list. IB Gram does not publish an hourly figure on this page: the trial lesson and the consultation are where a quote for a specific subject, tier and number of weeks is given, because an honest number depends on all three.

The column that is missing from every competitor rate table is the one about timing. An hour bought in Year 10 and an hour bought six weeks before paper one are not the same product. The early hour can still change which tier is entered, whether coursework is banked properly and what the forecast grade is built on. The late hour can only reorder revision and sharpen technique on content already learned. Both are worth buying; they are not worth the same, and a provider who quotes one rate all year is not pricing the difference.

Monthly packaging is where comparison breaks down fastest. Rates seen in this market include about AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions, and Bestimate's Dubai estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-range and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Before comparing any two of those, convert both to an hourly figure and ask what a cancelled session does to it.

A visiting tutor against live one-to-one online when the paper date cannot move

Parents searching for an experienced IGCSE tutor in the UAE usually picture someone at the dining table. It is worth answering that honestly. In this market, a visiting tutor is real, widely available and priced at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour with the drive included in the hour. What it buys is presence and supervision, which for a younger or easily distracted student is a genuine good. What it costs is pool size, and in a tiered, code-specific subject the pool is the whole argument.

IB Gram delivers to UAE families as one-to-one online tuition over live video, and does not send anyone to a UAE address; home visits are part of what we do in India. The case for that is not convenience. A family in Ras Al Khaimah who needs someone with four series of 0580 Extended behind them is choosing from a national pool over video, or from whoever drives there, and those two sets are not the same size. In the final term there is a second effect: the hour that would have gone to travel goes to a timed section instead.

The comparison below is about what actually differs, not about which is better in the abstract. Both are one student with one teacher on one syllabus. The variables are supply, rescheduling, what a parent can inspect afterwards, and whether the arrangement survives a November entry that runs across the summer and into the autumn term.

Who may legally charge you for a lesson, and how a parent checks

Private tutoring in the Emirates is permitted work, not unregulated work. The private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years, with eligible applicants including teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. MoHRE's own service page for it lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website or e-services system.

Two consequences follow for a UAE family. The first is that individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, so asking to see a permit is a reasonable question rather than an awkward one. No fine schedule is published, so anyone quoting you a specific figure for the penalty is repeating something unverified. The second is that the permit carries a code of conduct, and in Abu Dhabi ADEK's professional-ethics rules prohibit private and charter school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school.

A tuition centre with premises is a different legal animal again: in Dubai that needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first and annual renewal requested at least 30 days before expiry. That permit belongs to the institute, not to the individuals teaching in it. IB Gram holds no regulator permit of that kind and does not claim one, and nobody in this market should describe their tutors as approved by a UAE authority unless they can produce the document. Where the tutor teaching your child is outside the UAE, they are governed where they are, which is a question worth asking rather than assuming.

Coursework and practicals in the week before a school deadline

This is where the line sits, and it is worth stating plainly because two providers in this market cross it. A tutor teaches, questions, explains a mark scheme and gives feedback on work the student has produced. A tutor does not supply finished assessed work, does not edit a piece until the sentences are theirs rather than the candidate's, and does not sit beside a student dictating. One ranking site in this market sells completed Internal Assessments outright. Buying that is a malpractice finding against the student, not against the seller.

In practice the honest version is more useful anyway. A session on a coursework draft looks like this: the student reads their own paragraph aloud, the tutor asks which assessment criterion it is aimed at, and the student discovers that the paragraph describes where it was supposed to analyse. The redrafting happens afterwards, by the student, with the criterion in front of them. That is slower than a rewrite and it is the only version that survives a conversation with a moderator.

The practical components deserve their own answer, because families reasonably ask how a screen can teach laboratory work. For Cambridge sciences the practical skills in many centres are assessed through the alternative to practical paper, which is a written paper about method, variables, apparatus, tables and graphs. That is taught well over video, because what it rewards is planning on paper. Where a centre runs a practical examination or a coursework route instead, the honest division is that the school owns the bench time and the tutor owns the write-up skills and the interpretation of results.

12

The Ministry of Education equivalency file is assembled from Year 9 choices

Ministry of Education equivalency is the process that converts a foreign school certificate into something UAE institutions can read, and for British-track students it has a specific shape. The requirements as reported in July 2026 are that a student must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level with the same grade.

The detail that catches families is which subjects count. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects. A student with nine IGCSE entries, two of which are Arabic and Islamic Education, is not counting nine towards that rule. One ranking competitor in this market publishes a six-subject requirement for UAE candidates; the sourced figure is five. The point is not to score against a rival page, it is that the number is checkable and that a wrong number here produces a real problem in a real office.

For the American track the same clarification sets out English proficiency through a score of 5 in IELTS academic, 61 in TOEFL iBT or 450 in the SAT reading and writing section, with at least 450 in SAT Math before applying. It states no IB points threshold, which is why no honest page should publish one without reading it on moe.gov.ae. IB Gram does not perform equivalency and does not guarantee its outcome; the Ministry and the emirate attestation channel own that process. What a tutor can do is ask the question in Year 9, when the subject set is still being chosen, instead of in Year 13, when it is not.

13

When nobody with that experience is free in the week you want

The honest limit is worth publishing because no competitor in this market publishes theirs. Supply for a given code at a given hour is finite. Further Mathematics, Computer Science 0478, Economics at Extended tier and the Pearson modular routes all have thin coverage in any one emirate, and a request made in the second week of January - the week UAE mock results come back - is competing with every other family in Dubai's 227 private schools for the same small group of specialists.

What we do when that happens is say so. If no specialist in your child's code and tier is free at the hour you need, you are told that, rather than being matched to a generalist who will discover the specification in the first session. Where it helps, we propose the nearest honest alternative: a different slot with the right specialist, a short diagnostic block with someone who has taught the adjacent code while a slot opens, or a plan the family can run themselves for three weeks with a review at the end of it. Sometimes the answer is that six weeks before paper one, one subject done properly beats three done thinly.

The lesson from the calendar applies here as well. Scarcity is a timing problem more than a supply problem. The same specialist who is unavailable in January was free in September, and the family who asked in September paid the same hourly figure for an hour that could still change the tier. If you are reading this in autumn, the useful action is to ask now for the subject you expect to be hardest in the spring, rather than waiting for a mock to confirm what the Year 10 reports already suggested.

Where we tutor

Where UAE IGCSE families sit, and what that changes

The syllabus is identical across the Emirates. What differs is which authority holds the school's file, how far a session start slips when the commute is bad, and how thin local supply is for a given code. All three change the plan, and only the first one appears on a school website.

Dubai

Licensed and inspected by KHDA, and the emirate with the deepest IGCSE market. Mock windows cluster in January, which is also when a 4pm start becomes a 4.40pm start by car. Taking the hour over video is how families keep the mock-feedback week intact.

Abu Dhabi

ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. Island-to-mainland travel decides when a session can realistically begin, so a plan built on a 5pm start in Saadiyat is in practice a plan built on 6pm, three evenings a week, for a whole term.

Sharjah

The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education here and approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. A Sharjah centre's assessment arrangements are therefore signed off locally as well as by the exam board, which is worth knowing before assuming a Dubai timetable applies.

Al Ain

Falls under ADEK alongside Abu Dhabi, with fewer IGCSE centres. A private-candidate entry sometimes means sitting the papers in another city, which is a travel and accommodation question to settle at the entry deadline in the autumn rather than in the week of paper one.

Ajman

No emirate-level regulator of its own: the Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Families here often sit at a centre in a neighbouring emirate, which changes nothing about the syllabus and a great deal about exam-morning logistics.

Ras Al Khaimah

The Department of Knowledge regulates private education in RAK and, like Sharjah, approves fees, curricula and assessment methods. Specialist subject supply is thinner here than in Dubai, which is where online one-to-one IGCSE tuition stops being a convenience and becomes the only route to a particular code.

Fujairah

Supervised federally by the Ministry of Education. An east-coast family that needs a tutor who has taken Chemistry 0620 candidates through several series is choosing from a national pool over video, because the local pool for that code may be nobody at all.

Umm Al Quwain

Also supervised federally. The smallest private-school market in the country and the clearest argument for matching on a code rather than on proximity: the question is not who is nearby, it is who has taught 4MA1 Higher to a final series.

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in the UAE

Dubai

Dubai's private sector reported 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, offering 17 curricula, with the UK curriculum the largest single share at 37 per cent. That is why IGCSE tutor demand in January is concentrated here, and why a January request for a scarce code is competing with every other family in the emirate.

  • JESS Arabian Ranches

Abu Dhabi and Al Ain

Centres here answer to ADEK, and ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school. That single rule is why 'your child's own teacher, privately' is not an offer a UAE family should accept in this emirate.

Sharjah and the northern emirates

Sharjah's authority and RAK's Department of Knowledge both approve assessment methods as well as fees, while Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah sit with the Ministry of Education. Centres are fewer and further apart, so the entry question and the exam-centre question are both settled earlier here.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the statement of entry, or the codes

The first thing we ask for is the document that fixes the content: the statement of entry, or failing that the syllabus codes from the exams officer. With 0620 Extended and a listed alternative to practical paper on the page, a plan can be written. With 'IGCSE Chemistry' alone, it cannot.

  2. 02

A free trial lesson with the specialist

One lesson with the tutor who would actually teach the course, at no charge and with no card required. It is diagnostic as much as introductory: the tutor works through a past question with your child and comes out able to name where the marks are going, which is the thing you are buying.

  3. 03

A plan written backwards from the series

Hours are allocated from the paper date backwards, with the school's internal coursework deadlines and the mock window marked first. You get the plan in writing, including what it does not cover. If the entry deadline has already passed and the tier is locked, the plan says so rather than implying otherwise.

  4. 04

Weekly sessions with the mock as the checkpoint

Sessions run to the plan, with notes you can read. The January mock is the formal review point: the script is read question by question, the three recurring losses are named, and the remaining hours are reallocated. A plan that survives a mock unchanged was not reading the mock.

  5. 05

Re-plan at results, whichever way it goes

Before results day we agree who checks the statement of results against the statement of entry, what the centre's process is for a mark breakdown, and what the next series' entry deadline is. If a review or a resit follows, the sequencing is already drawn. If it does not, the bridging work into the next course starts instead.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on the code, not the subject name

A tutor is proposed because they have taught 0580 Extended or 4PH1 through to a final series, and the match names which series. Subject-name matching is how a family ends up doing Cambridge past papers for a Pearson entry, which is a waste of the best weeks of the year.

Plans that start from a published date

Every plan is anchored to a date someone else published: your centre's entry deadline, the board's timetable for your zone, the school's coursework deadline. That makes the plan checkable. A plan anchored to nothing but enthusiasm cannot be audited by a parent, which is precisely why it reads so well.

A line we do not cross on assessed work

Feedback, questioning and criterion-by-criterion review of the student's own draft, and nothing beyond it. We will not supply finished coursework and we will not edit a piece until the voice is no longer the candidate's. The exposure of crossing that line sits with your child, which is why the answer is the same every time.

Delivered live online, one-to-one

Lessons for UAE families are one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time, with shared-screen notes you can read afterwards. Home visits are part of what IB Gram does in India and not here, which we state on this page rather than after you have asked twice.

What we say when the specialist is not free

If nobody with the right code and tier is available at the hour you need, you hear that in the first reply. The alternative offered is named for what it is - a different slot, an adjacent specialism, or a short self-run plan with a review - rather than presented as the same thing.

Figures attributed, or not published

Every AED range on this page carries the provider who published it and the month it was read. Where a number could not be verified - IB session dates, the penalty for tutoring without a permit, an IB points threshold for equivalency - it is left out and the official source is named instead.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in the UAE: your questions answered

How many IGCSE series will a tutor with eight years in UAE classrooms actually have sat?+

Most UAE centres enter their main cohort once a year, usually June, so eight school-based years is roughly eight sets of entries, eight mock windows and eight results days in that subject. It can be fewer if the years were split across curricula or year groups. A private tutor of the same vintage may have seen more, because November entries and private candidates add sittings. Ask for the conversion directly: how many series, in which subject, on which board, and how many of them were November or March rather than June. The number is usually smaller than the years, and it is the number that matters.

What should we ask in the first ten minutes to test whether a tutor's IGCSE experience is real?+

Three questions separate people quickly. First: what do you want from us before the first lesson? An experienced answer is the statement of entry or the syllabus code, not 'a bit about your son'. Second: what would you check if a mock came back eleven marks below the forecast? The useful answer names components and question types, not motivation. Third: which of the components in this subject has a deadline earlier than the written papers? Someone who has run the year answers that instantly, because they have been caught by it. Vague, warm answers to all three are the signal.

Why does an experienced tutor want the syllabus code before agreeing to a plan?+

Because the subject name does not determine the content. Physics could be Cambridge 0625 or Pearson 4PH1, Core or Extended, with practical skills assessed in a written alternative or through a practical examination. Those combinations have different papers, different weightings and different question styles, and past-paper practice on the wrong one builds timing instincts for a paper your child will never sit. The code sits on the statement of entry the centre issues before the series. Until that exists, the exams officer is the right person to ask - not the school website, which usually names a curriculum rather than a specification.

Our son's first paper is twenty-two weeks away. What does experience change at that distance?+

At twenty-two weeks almost everything is still open, and that is the point. Coursework and practical skills can be banked properly rather than rescued. The January mock is still ahead, so the forecast grade is being built from evidence that can still be improved. If the entry has not been submitted, the tier argument can still be made with evidence behind it. An experienced plan at this distance spends the early weeks on technique over content already taught, not on racing ahead of the school. The revision block is scheduled last, because it is the only part that works no matter when it happens.

Which two documents should we send a tutor before the first lesson?+

The statement of entry and the most recent marked assessment. The first fixes the board, the syllabus code, the tier and the components, which is everything a plan is built from. The second shows where marks are actually going, which is not the same as where your child feels weak. A marked mock script is worth more than a school report, because a report gives a grade and a script gives the question numbers. If the statement of entry has not been issued yet, the syllabus codes from the exams officer will do, with the tier confirmed separately.

Is the March series open to every Cambridge subject and every exam centre?+

No, and that is the first thing to check rather than assume. Cambridge runs a June series and a November series, and publishes separate key dates for a March series, but availability depends on subject and on the centre. For the March 2027 series Cambridge published a final entry deadline of 27 November 2026, forecast grades due 27 February 2027 and an exam period from 3 February to 4 March 2027, with results on Direct on 13 May and certificates in late June. Your exams officer can say whether your centre offers it for your child's subject; the board's key-dates document sets the timings once it does.

Where do the eleven weeks between the last paper and results day actually go?+

Into marking, standardisation and the setting of grade boundaries for that series. Pearson released June 2026 results to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, which is roughly eleven weeks after the papers. Boundaries are fixed for the papers actually sat rather than carried over, which is the technical reason a mock boundary is a guide and never a promise. Nothing a family does in that window touches the marks. What it can do is settle who is reachable on results day, how the centre releases a mark breakdown, and what the next entry deadline is.

If a grade looks wrong on results day, what happens in the first forty-eight hours?+

Check the statement of results against the statement of entry, component by component, before anything else. A missing component, a wrong tier or a paper recorded as absent is caught there and nowhere else, and it is a more common cause of a surprising grade than a marking error. Then ask the centre for the mark breakdown, which shows whether the loss sat in one paper or across all of them. Reviews of marking and access to scripts are requested by the centre, not by a family, inside a window the board publishes per series and measured in days.

Does a resit entry have to be made before we travel in August?+

Often, yes, and that is the practical argument for drawing the sequence out in June. The entry deadline for the next series can fall before a review of marking on the last one concludes, so experienced families make the entry as insurance and withdraw it if the review succeeds. Entries are made by the centre or by an approved centre accepting private candidates, which means someone has to be reachable and able to authorise it. Agree before you fly who does that, which email address they use, and what the centre's cut-off is for instructions received from abroad.

Our daughter missed a June paper through illness. What is the honest sequence from here?+

Start with the centre, same week. The school holds the evidence process and the relationship with the board, and what is possible depends on which component was missed and how much of the subject was completed. If a special-consideration route does not resolve it, the November series is the usual repair: Pearson's November 2026 timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026, and its November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. That means a Year 12 place is normally held conditionally and confirmed in January. Tell the receiving sixth form in August rather than in September.

Does doubling the weekly hours in the last month actually buy anything?+

Less than families hope, and sometimes less than one hour used better. In the last month the content is taught; what moves marks is timing, command-term discipline and question selection under pressure. Those improve through short, frequent, timed practice with feedback, not through longer sessions. Four extra hours a week spread across four subjects at that stage usually produces four slightly calmer subjects and no grade change. The same four hours on the single component carrying the biggest loss has a chance. The honest version of this advice costs us revenue, which is why so few providers give it.

Is an experienced tutor in the UAE teaching from our living room or over video?+

Over video. Every lesson IB Gram arranges for a family in the Emirates is one-to-one and delivered live online, timed to Gulf Standard Time, with shared-screen notes you keep afterwards. Home visits are part of what we do in India, not here. The reason is supply: a family in Fujairah or Ras Al Khaimah who needs someone with several series of a specific code behind them is choosing from a national pool over video rather than from whoever drives there. In the final term there is a second gain, which is that the travel hour becomes a timed-practice hour.

May a tutor rewrite a clumsy paragraph in our son's IGCSE coursework?+

No. A tutor can ask which assessment criterion that paragraph is aimed at, read the criterion with him, and let him discover that it describes where it was meant to analyse. The redrafting is his, afterwards, with the criterion in front of him. Editing until the sentences are the tutor's rather than the candidate's is malpractice, and the finding lands on your son, not on the tutor. Providers in this market do sell finished assessed work. The slower version is also the better teaching, because a criterion understood once transfers to the next piece and a rewritten paragraph does not.

Our Social Studies teacher set material we cannot find. Can a tutor bring their own instead?+

Not for that subject. For the mandatory UAE subjects, the use of any different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry is strictly prohibited, so a tutor cannot substitute a better worksheet the way they might in Chemistry. What is available is support with the school's own material, the language demands inside it and the study skills around it. KHDA also requires that school teachers of Arabic and Islamic Education hold the appropriate KHDA approval for those subjects, which is a school credential and not something a private tutor carries. Ask the class teacher for the material first.

Ramadan sits across our mock window this year. What moves and what does not?+

Session timing moves; board dates do not. Schools commonly shorten the day during Ramadan, and families shift tutoring to the late evening after Iftar or to the early afternoon. Because lessons are delivered online, a session can move to any free slot in Gulf Standard Time without a drive attached to it, which is the main practical advantage in that month. What cannot move is the entry deadline, the coursework deadline or the paper date. The plan is therefore built so that the irreversible work sits outside the Ramadan weeks and the revision, which is schedulable, sits inside them.

Nobody with ten years of 0620 behind them is free on Tuesdays. What happens then?+

You are told that in the first reply rather than matched to a generalist who will meet the specification in your lesson. The alternatives are named for what they are: a different slot with the right specialist, a short diagnostic block with someone who has taught the adjacent code while a slot opens, or a three-week plan the family runs with a review at the end. Supply for a specific code at a specific hour is finite, and it is tightest in the second week of January when mock results arrive. Asking in September for the subject you expect to be hardest in spring avoids most of this.

Does a tutor who has only taught A Level count as experienced for IGCSE?+

Partly, and the gap is specific. A Level experience brings subject depth well above what the IGCSE papers ask for, which helps with explanation and with bridging into the next course. What it does not bring is the mark scheme at this level, where credit is awarded for a method line, a named control variable or a command term answered in its own terms rather than for the best physics in the room. A tutor used to A Level marking often over-teaches and under-scores a candidate. Ask when they last marked a full set of IGCSE scripts in that subject.

Start from the date, not from the search

If you are looking for an experienced IGCSE tutor in the UAE, the first useful step is not comparing hourly rates. It is finding out which board and series your child is entered for, which syllabus code sits against each subject, and which components have deadlines ahead of the written papers. Send us the statement of entry, or the codes from the exams officer, and the most recent marked assessment. We will come back with a specialist in that code, a free trial lesson with the person who would actually teach it, and a plan counted backwards from the paper date - including an honest statement of what, at this point in the calendar, is already fixed.
