IB Tutor near me in Fujairah

A search for an IB tutor near me in Fujairah returns very little, and the reason is arithmetic rather than bad luck. This page measures the distances honestly: how far the nearest Diploma specialist actually is, what the Hajar mountain road does to a weekly appointment, and which of the three closest alternatives can cover what. It also answers the questions proximity genuinely settles, including where papers are sat locally. Teaching arranged here is one-to-one over live video, set in Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Fujairah

The nearest specialist is further away than the map suggests

Fujairah sits on the Gulf of Oman, behind the Hajar mountains, which is the single fact that governs this search. The emirate has a small private school set and small subject cohorts inside it. A Higher Level science group may be eight students taught by someone who also covers two other sciences. When a parent types a proximity query, the map answers with a handful of results that are either general tutors or businesses west of the mountains quoting a national service area. Neither is what the query was asking for.

So it is worth being exact about what distance means here rather than trading in impressions. From Fujairah City the Dubai school belt is a two-to-three-hour round trip by road. Khor Fakkan and Kalba are minutes up the same coast but are Sharjah exclaves under a different regulator. Dibba is an hour north with almost no school choice in range. Masafi sits on the inland route west, which closes after heavy rain. None of those numbers is a complaint about the roads; they are the figures that decide whether a weekly appointment survives to February.

The next thing to establish is what proximity would actually buy. For a nine-year-old who needs reading practice and a routine, a nearby adult is genuinely valuable and the right answer. For a Diploma Higher Level subject, proximity buys almost nothing that matters and costs the thing that matters most, which is access to someone who has marked that subject's papers repeatedly. In a cohort of eight, the local pool of people who have done that is frequently zero, and no amount of driving changes it.

There are questions where being near home is decisive, and this page covers them rather than brushing them aside. Where the papers are physically sat, and whether a student can enter as a private candidate for a subject their school does not teach, are both local questions with local answers. So is which authority supervises the school, which changes within a few minutes' drive on this coast. So is the practical business of a school run, a bus timetable and the hour at which a session can start. Those are the parts of the search that proximity really does answer.

The delivery position is stated so nothing is assumed. Tuition arranged through IB Gram is one-to-one and delivered live over video, in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not provide in-person tutoring in Fujairah and will not send anyone to a Fujairah address; visiting tuition is offered only in India. IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform holding no approval, accreditation or partnership from the IB, Cambridge, Pearson, the Ministry of Education or any emirate authority. What follows is the geography, measured, and the decisions that follow from it.

At a glance

  • Fujairah City to the Dubai school belt: a two-to-three-hour round trip
  • Khor Fakkan and Kalba are minutes away and under a different regulator

  • Exam centres, private-candidate entry and school supervision are genuinely local questions

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

What is available within reach differs sharply by programme on this coast, and that availability is usually what decides a family's options rather than preference. These four are the ones that actually appear.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects with three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Higher Level courses add components Standard Level students never meet, including a third paper in mathematics and the sciences. Every subject carries internally assessed work marked against lettered criteria with published mark allocations.

Diploma provision within reach of the east coast is limited, so a Fujairah student's subject combination is often determined by what a school can staff rather than what the student wants. Families weighing a move or weekly boarding west of the mountains are usually weighing it for this reason alone.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Four criteria per subject, each out of eight, reported on a 1-7 scale. Continuous assessment means there is no single point at which everything is decided, and the Personal Project in the final year is the first long self-managed piece a student writes.

The nearest continuum campuses to the east coast sit in Sharjah and the northern emirates rather than in Fujairah itself, so an MYP family here is frequently already commuting or boarding. Where a student moves between the MYP and an IGCSE cohort, the gap is assessment language rather than content difficulty.

CAIEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE

The qualification most east-coast students actually hold. Four-digit syllabus codes govern papers, tier and practical arrangements. Cambridge runs June and November series and allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones; it states it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who use the wrong version of the timetable for their zone.

This is where proximity genuinely matters, because the exam centre is a physical place. A Fujairah candidate sits Cambridge's June or November series, or Pearson's May/June or November window, and nothing in between. Pearson's November 2026 International GCSE timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026 and those results reached students in the new year. Cambridge entry deadlines sit months ahead of the papers, with June entries closing in the spring, and the exact date for your series is on the statement of entry the centre issues.

EDEXCELAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Available in a May or June window and again in November, with some subjects modular in structure. Pearson's November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026; June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students the following day, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026.

The November window is the practical fallback for east-coast families, because repeating a year is rarely viable where school choice is thin. Pearson publishes provisional timetables for future series, so plan from the board's live timetable rather than from any restatement of it, including this page.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the Diploma subjects east-coast families ask for, listed with an honest note on how easy each is to find within reach. Scarcity rather than difficulty is what usually sends a Fujairah family looking.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Widely taught, so the local pool is better here than anywhere else in the Diploma. The scarcity appears at Higher Level, where Paper 3 and its long structured investigations need somebody who has marked them rather than somebody who has read about them.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Newer in most schools' teaching memory, which thins the pool of people confident in the modelling and statistics units. Local generalists frequently teach it as though it were Analysis and Approaches with a calculator, which misses where the marks are.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Commonly offered and commonly under-staffed at Higher Level. On the east coast one teacher frequently covers chemistry, physics and biology, so the organic mechanisms that separate the top grades get less specialist attention than they need.

Physics

HL and SL

The hardest Diploma science to find within reach, and consistently the hardest to staff nationally. Fields, circuits and uncertainty treatment are the components where east-coast students lose ground, and they are precisely the ones a generalist handles least well.

Biology

HL and SL

The easiest to find locally and the easiest to teach unproductively. Content re-explanation feels like progress and changes nothing; the recoverable marks sit in extended-response structure and in the data-analysis items.

Economics

HL and SL

Taught in fewer east-coast schools than the sciences, so the local pool is thin. Higher Level Paper 3, with its quantitative questions and policy evaluation, is the component most often left to general revision rather than practised directly.

Business Management

HL and SL

Popular and reasonably well covered, with the assessed research project as the real gap. A question too broad to answer inside the word limit is the commonest failure, and it is chosen before anybody outside the school sees the work.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Generally available locally. The component families struggle to prepare for is the Individual Oral, which needs an unscripted spoken exchange rather than a rehearsed presentation, and which is rarely practised enough in a small cohort.

English B

HL and SL

Well covered across the emirate's mixed-language intakes. Improvement comes from frequency rather than intensity, which makes this one of the few subjects where a long, low-intensity arrangement genuinely beats a short block.

Group 3 and Group 6 options

HL and SL

Psychology, global politics, visual arts, music and the smaller humanities. These are the subjects where a Fujairah student is most likely to be the only candidate in the emirate, and where no local specialist exists at any price.

Arabic and Islamic Education

Required study alongside the licensed curriculum

Locally well staffed, since every school must provide it. First-language and additional-language streams are taught separately and material may not be substituted without ministry approval, so support is about assessment language and written structure.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways of working, chosen by how scarce the subject is rather than by how near anybody lives. All are one-to-one and delivered live over video, set in Gulf Standard Time around the east-coast school day.

Weekly subject slot for a widely taught subject

For mathematics, biology, English and the other subjects where the question is quality rather than availability. A standing weekly hour following the school's teaching order, with marked work between sessions and a review at the school's next assessment.

  • One subject and one level per slot
  • Follows the school's teaching order, not the textbook's
  • Marked timed work between sessions, returned annotated
  • Reviewed on whether the targeted component moved

Scarce-subject arrangement

For Higher Level physics, Further Mathematics and the smaller Group 3 and Group 6 options, where no specialist exists within reach at any price. Often a fortnightly longer session rather than a weekly hour, because availability rather than preference sets the pattern.

  • Matched on the subject first and the timetable second
  • Longer, less frequent sessions where that is what is available
  • Honest statement up front if nothing can be covered at all
  • Coverage reviewed each term as availability changes

Local-questions consultation

A single session for the parts of this search that really are about geography: exam centres, private-candidate entry, which authority supervises a school after a move, and whether a sixth-form relocation is the better answer than tuition.

  • Which centre and which Cambridge zone the school sits in
  • Whether a subject can be entered privately, and by when
  • What changes if the family moves to Sharjah, Dubai or Ras Al Khaimah
  • No lesson commitment attached

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Fujairah

01

What a proximity search actually returns here, and why

  • Local generalists: good for younger years, rarely for Higher Level
  • National agencies: a declared service area is not a local tutor
  • Exam centres and school supervision are genuinely local questions
  • Who has marked the paper is not a local question anywhere in this emirate

Three kinds of result come back from this query on the east coast, and it is worth knowing which is which. The first is general local tutors: real people, often very good with younger children, usually covering a phase rather than a Diploma subject. The second is national agencies declaring a service area that includes Fujairah, which in practice means a tutor would travel from west of the mountains or, more commonly, that the lesson would be delivered remotely without the page saying so. The third is marketplace listings with no local content at all.

None of those is dishonest exactly, but the aggregate effect misleads, because the thing the parent is implicitly asking for is a Diploma subject specialist within a short drive, and that is the one category the results do not contain. The reason is arithmetic. Specialists concentrate where cohorts are large. Fujairah's cohorts are small, so a teacher here covers breadth rather than depth, and the depth a Higher Level student needs sits where the student population is.

The useful reframe is to split the search in two. There are things only proximity can answer: where the papers are sat, which authority supervises the school, what time the bus gets home, whether a local centre will accept a private candidate. And there are things only subject matching can answer: who has marked this paper, who knows what criterion A actually rewards, who can tell a pacing problem from a content gap. Treating one question as if it were the other is the mistake that costs an east-coast family a term.

02

Drive times from the east coast, measured rather than estimated

Straight-line distance is misleading here because of the mountains, so the figures worth planning against are round trips at the hour a lesson would actually run. A tutor travelling from the Dubai school belt to Fujairah City is committing two to three hours of driving around a sixty-minute lesson. Nobody sustains that at an online rate, which is why published visiting rates in the UAE run AED 180-500 per hour with travel inside the fee, against AED 150-300 for a qualified subject tutor working online.

The second number that matters is reliability rather than duration. The inland route through Masafi closes after heavy rain, which in a visiting arrangement means a missed week rather than a late start. A missed week in February, with mocks marked and the papers approaching, is not recoverable by doubling up in April. And there is a slower failure that families only notice after a term: when a lesson is a round trip, rescheduling is expensive for the tutor, so slots stop moving, and a slot that cannot move is a slot that gets cancelled when a fixture or a school event lands on it.

The table below sets out the practical positions from the districts enquiries come from. It is worth reading alongside one more fact: Kalba and Khor Fakkan are closer to several Fujairah households than Fujairah City is, and they sit in Sharjah. Proximity on this coast does not map onto emirate, regulator or term calendar, which is the kind of thing that only becomes obvious after somebody has made a decision on a map.

03

The nearest three alternatives, ranked by what they stop short of

Set out in order of distance, the options a Fujairah family can reach are the school's own subject teacher, a local general tutor, the nearest tuition provision in the city, and a provider in the Sharjah exclaves or beyond the mountains. Each covers something real, and each stops at a specific point. Knowing where it stops is more useful than knowing how far away it is.

The school's own teacher is nearest and often best for the first move. They know the cohort, the teaching order and the internal deadlines, and an extra hour from them costs little or nothing. The stopping point is structural rather than a judgement: in a single-figure Higher Level cohort with one teacher, if that teacher's explanation is the thing the student has already not understood twice, more of it will not move the grade and there is no colleague to swap to. A local generalist stops earlier still on a Diploma subject, for the component-level reasons set out across this page.

Provision in the city and in the Sharjah exclaves extends the range without changing the fundamental problem: these are places with small cohorts too, so the pool they draw from has the same shape. The provider beyond the mountains has the specialists and cannot reliably deliver them to an east-coast address week after week. That is the gap the online option fills, and it is worth being precise that it fills a coverage gap rather than a price gap. The table puts the four side by side.

THE NEAREST OPTIONS, AND WHERE EACH ONE STOPS

Your child's own subject teacherMissed content, teaching order, internal deadlines, the cohortWhen that teacher's explanation is itself the bottleneckLittle or nothing; usually the right first move

04

Why scarcity beats proximity in a cohort of eight

A small cohort changes more than the class size. It changes how much a teacher's time is divided across subjects, how many past papers the group has worked through collectively, how much peer comparison a student gets, and how quickly an individual gap is noticed. None of that is a criticism of small schools, several of which get excellent results. It is a description of the conditions under which an individual student can quietly drift for a term.

The most consequential effect is on specialism. Where a school runs one Higher Level science group, the teacher almost certainly also teaches the other sciences and probably the Middle Years Programme below. Their subject knowledge may be strong, but their accumulated experience of this specific paper, this specific mark scheme and this specific internally assessed component is spread across three syllabuses rather than concentrated in one. The gap that produces is not about intelligence or effort. It is about repetitions.

This is why subject matching rather than proximity is the right filter on this coast, and why the argument holds even for a family in Fujairah City with a tuition centre ten minutes away. The question to ask of any prospective tutor is how often they teach your child's subject at your child's level, and what they can tell you about the component where the marks are currently going. A specialist answers in the language of papers and criteria. Somebody covering it as a second subject answers in the language of topics. On the east coast the first answer is almost always further away than the second, and almost always worth the distance that no longer has to be driven.

05

What proximity genuinely does settle, and where to get it locally

It would be dishonest to spend a page arguing against proximity without listing the things it decides. The first is the exam centre: papers are sat at a physical place, under a centre number, with a timetable determined by Cambridge's administrative zone or Pearson's series. That is entirely local and worth confirming early rather than in the final fortnight. The second is peer study. A student who has two classmates to work through past papers with has something no remote arrangement supplies, and on this coast that is worth organising deliberately rather than leaving to chance.

The third is the school relationship. Internal deadlines, predicted grades, subject changes, access arrangements and any conversation about the Extended Essay supervisor all happen locally, in person, with people who know your child. No outside tutor substitutes for that, and a good one will keep pointing you back to it. The fourth is pastoral: a student under real pressure in DP2 needs adults who can see them, and a video session for one hour a week is not that.

The fifth is simply logistics, and it is why the school run and the bus timetable appear repeatedly on this page. A session has to fit into a real evening in a real household. Dibba's late bus arrivals push the first workable slot past five. Al Faseel's fixtures collide with the four o'clock hour. Port shift patterns mean some households need a slot that moves between weeks. Those are local facts, they decide whether a plan survives, and they are the part of a proximity search that deserves a straight answer rather than an argument.

06

Sitting the papers near home: centres and private candidates

This is the local question with the most consequences and the one families leave latest. Where a student's school is an exam centre, entries are handled by the school and the only thing to confirm is which series and which timetable version apply. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states plainly that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who use the wrong version of the timetable for their zone, so the zone is worth knowing in writing rather than by assumption.

Where a student wants a subject the school does not teach, the private-candidate route exists and it is genuinely local: the entry has to be made through a centre that accepts private candidates, within that series deadline, and the student travels to that centre to sit the papers. The deadlines sit months before the exams. A private-candidate entry for Cambridge's June series has to be lodged in the spring, and for the November series over the preceding summer, and a centre taking outside candidates often sets its own cut-off earlier again, so ask for that date in writing rather than working back from the board's. Pearson examines International GCSE subjects in a May or June window and again in November, with the November 2026 final timetable running from late October to 19 November 2026.

For Diploma subjects the position is different and more restrictive, because the programme is delivered by authorised schools rather than entered privately in the way an International GCSE subject can be. That means a Fujairah student whose school cannot staff a Higher Level subject has school-level options rather than exam-entry options: a different subject, a different school, or in some cases a distance-learning arrangement through a provider that is itself an authorised school. A tutor does not solve that problem and should say so. What a tutor can do is make sure the subjects the student is actually entered for are taught to the level of the paper.

Which authority supervises the school nearest you

On this coast the regulator changes within a short drive, and it changes more than a logo on a letterhead. The Ministry of Education plays a pivotal role in supervising private schools in Fujairah, Ajman and Umm Al Quwain. A few minutes down the same road, in the Sharjah exclaves of Kalba and Khor Fakkan, the Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education, and Sharjah's authority also approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Ras Al Khaimah has its own Department of Knowledge with the same approval powers.

West of the mountains, Dubai schools answer to the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate, while Abu Dhabi and Al Ain fall to the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools there. Those five bodies are the complete regulator map for UAE private schools, and it is worth noting how rarely the competing pages in this market name any of them beyond Dubai's.

The practical consequences for a family near Fujairah are three. There is no emirate-level inspection portal for Fujairah of the kind Dubai parents use, so school information comes from the school and from ministry circulars. Term dates and fee rules differ across a boundary that may be ten minutes from your front door. And the federal baseline applies throughout: private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, but must adhere to the ministry's general regulations, which is the rule behind those subjects running alongside any international programme.

08

Checking the person who is near you, and what happens when nobody is

If you do hire locally, two checks are worth making before the first lesson. The first is the permit. Private tutoring in the UAE is permitted and regulated: individuals giving private lessons need a MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years, and applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system with a two-working-day completion time. MoHRE states that anyone tutoring without one is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and publishes no fine schedule, so treat any amount quoted online as unverified. Because it costs nothing, there is no good reason not to hold one.

The second check concerns your child's own school. A teacher at the school your child attends is generally not an appropriate choice for paid private tuition of that child. ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar Abu Dhabi school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct addresses serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. That has been press-reported rather than read from the current policy text, so verify the exact wording with the authority, but do not treat the arrangement as routine simply because it is convenient and nearby.

And sometimes nobody is available near or far, which is the part of this search no competing page admits to. Higher Level physics, Further Mathematics where a school offers it, and the smaller Group 3 and Group 6 options regularly have no UAE-based specialist free at the hour a Fujairah family needs. The options then are a specialist in another time zone teaching into a Gulf Standard Time slot, a fortnightly longer session, or a wait for a slot to open. That gets said rather than concealed. On the same principle: coursework support is teaching and feedback on the student's own work, never a draft supplied; board papers and mark schemes are linked at source rather than redistributed; and no tutor can promise a grade.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Fujairah

Distance from provision, not distance from the city, is what shapes the options in each district. These notes give the practical position from the places enquiries come from.

Fujairah City

The centre of what provision exists, and the only district where a local pool of general tutors is worth considering at all. Even here the Diploma Higher Level pool is small enough that subject matching beats proximity.

Al Faseel and the corniche

Minutes from the city schools, so the school run is short and the binding constraint is club and fixture times rather than distance. Proximity is already solved here; subject coverage is what is missing.

Sakamkam

Inland of the city with a mixed-curriculum intake. Close enough to the schools that a local tutor is practical for younger year groups, and far enough from any Diploma specialist that sixth-form support comes from elsewhere.

Merashid and Madhab

Residential districts within the city's orbit. Households here often have children in two systems at once, which makes a single nearby tutor a poor fit even when one is available.

Dibba Al-Fujairah

An hour north with very little school choice in range and no realistic local tutor market for examined subjects. A weekly drive from the city in either direction is the arrangement most likely to lapse by the second term.

Qidfa, Mirbah and Al Aqah

Spread along the northern coast road with long gaps between settlements. The nearest tuition of any kind is in Fujairah City, which makes proximity a non-option rather than a trade-off.

Kalba and Khor Fakkan

Sharjah exclaves a short drive down the coast, under the Sharjah Private Education Authority rather than the Ministry of Education. Nearer than Fujairah City for some households, and in a different regulatory system.

Masafi and the inland route

Split between Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah on the road west. The route closes after heavy rain, which turns any proximity-based arrangement into a lost week at the worst point in the year.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Separate the local questions from the subject ones

Write down two lists. Local: exam centre, Cambridge zone, bus times, school deadlines, who supervises the school. Subject: which papers, which level, where the marks are going. The first list goes to the school. The second decides who should teach your child.

  2. 02

Try the nearest option first, properly

An extra hour a week from your child's own subject teacher is the cheapest and best-informed help available, and for a content gap caused by absence it is usually sufficient. Establish whether it has been genuinely tried before paying for anything further.

  3. 03

Send the subject, the level and the marked scripts

Which Diploma subjects, which are at Higher Level, and the last two marked pieces of work. Those three things let a first session start on a diagnosis. A proximity search cannot be answered usefully without them, because the answer depends on the subject rather than the postcode.

Set a slot that fits the real evening

Account for the bus from Dibba, the fixtures in Al Faseel, prayer timings and any shift pattern at home, and agree that the slot can move inside the same week. On this coast that single term saves more lessons across a year than any hourly saving.

  5. 05

Confirm the exam-centre details in writing

Ask the school for the centre, the Cambridge administrative zone, the series it enters and its own internal entry deadline, in writing. These are the genuinely local facts, and they are the ones most often discovered too late to act on.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on the subject, which is where the scarcity is

The constraint on this coast is not distance but repetitions: how often a tutor has taught and marked your child's specific paper. Matching starts there, which is why a specialist for a cohort of eight is reachable at all.

The local questions get local answers

Exam centre, Cambridge zone, entry deadlines, which authority supervises the school after a move. Those are set out here with the boards' own published dates rather than waved away as details somebody else will handle.

Distances given as round trips, not map lines

Two to three hours from the Dubai school belt, an hour each way from Qidfa to the city, and a route through Masafi that closes after heavy rain. Those figures are the honest basis for deciding whether a visiting arrangement survives to February.

Rates attributed to whoever published them

AED 150-300 online and AED 180-500 visiting with travel inside the fee, published October 2026 and credited. Three of the main competing sites in this market publish no hourly figure at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars.

Coverage limits published, not concealed

Higher Level physics, Further Mathematics and the smaller option subjects regularly have nobody free at a workable hour. That is stated with the alternatives named. No provider in this market discloses a coverage limit anywhere on its site.

Independent, online, and specific about both

IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform with no approval, accreditation or partnership from any board or regulator, and no school named here is a client. Lessons are one-to-one over live video; visiting tuition is offered only in India.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Fujairah: your questions answered

Why does a search for a tutor near me return so little in Fujairah?+

Because specialists concentrate where cohorts are large, and Fujairah's are small. The emirate has a modest private school set, and inside it a Higher Level subject group may be eight students taught by someone who also covers two other subjects. What the search does return is general local tutors, who are often genuinely good with younger children, and national agencies declaring a service area that includes the east coast. The category the query is implicitly asking for, a Diploma subject specialist within a short drive, is the one the results do not contain, and no amount of searching changes that arithmetic.

How far away is the nearest Diploma subject specialist from Fujairah City?+

For a widely taught subject such as mathematics or biology, there may be somebody within the city or in the Sharjah exclaves down the coast. For Higher Level physics, Further Mathematics or a smaller Group 3 or Group 6 option, the nearest person who teaches that course regularly is usually west of the Hajar mountains, which is a two-to-three-hour round trip from Fujairah City. That distance is why a visiting arrangement at an online rate does not hold: the travel either enters the fee, pushing it towards the AED 180-500 visiting band, or it quietly erodes the frequency of the lessons.

Is a tutor in Khor Fakkan or Kalba nearer than one in Sharjah city?+

Much nearer, and that is worth knowing because the two are in the same emirate. Kalba and Khor Fakkan are Sharjah exclaves minutes down the east coast road, so for some Fujairah households they are closer than Fujairah City itself. What travels with them is the regulatory system: schools there come under the Sharjah Private Education Authority rather than the federal Ministry of Education, with their own term dates, fee rules and inspection cycle. Proximity on this coast does not line up with emirate boundaries, which catches out families who plan on a map.

Does hiring someone nearby make the arrangement more reliable?+

Within a district, yes. Across the mountains, the opposite. A tutor five minutes away can turn up in most weathers and reschedule cheaply. A tutor committing to a two-to-three-hour round trip cannot reschedule cheaply, so slots stop moving, and a slot that cannot move is the one that gets cancelled when a fixture or a school event lands on it. Add the inland route closing after heavy rain and the arrangement becomes fortnightly by February. Reliability is really about the cost of moving a lesson, and that cost is zero for a video session.

Our neighbour tutors maths. Is that enough for Higher Level?+

It depends entirely on the component. For algebraic fluency, confidence and the habit of working consistently, a strong nearby mathematician can be excellent value. For Higher Level specifically, Paper 3 carries 20 per cent of the grade and consists of long structured investigations that do not exist at Standard Level, and the mathematical exploration is marked against criteria with published mark allocations where presentation and communication each carry four marks. Ask your neighbour directly how often they have taught Paper 3 and what criterion A of the exploration rewards. The answer will settle it either way.

Where is the nearest centre for a private candidate entry?+

That has to come from the centres themselves, because accepting private candidates is each centre's own policy rather than a board-wide rule, and the nearest accepting centre may not be in Fujairah. The practical route is to ask your child's school first, since many schools will host an entry for a subject they do not teach, and to ask for the centre number and administrative zone in writing. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six zones and states it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who use the wrong zone's timetable, so the zone matters as much as the location.

Can my child be entered for a Diploma subject the local school does not teach?+

Not in the way an International GCSE subject can be. The Diploma is delivered through authorised schools rather than entered privately, so a student whose school cannot staff a Higher Level subject has school-level options rather than exam-entry ones: choose a different subject, move school, or use a distance-learning arrangement through a provider that is itself an authorised school. A tutor cannot solve that and should say so plainly. Confirm the current position with your child's Diploma coordinator, who is the person with access to the authoritative answer for your school.

What does being near home genuinely help with?+

Five things. Where the papers are physically sat, including the centre number and timetable version. Peer study, which is worth organising deliberately on a coast with small cohorts. The school relationship, covering internal deadlines, predicted grades, subject changes and the Extended Essay supervisor. Pastoral support for a student under real pressure, which one hour a week over video does not provide. And logistics: the bus from Dibba, fixtures in Al Faseel, prayer timings and shift patterns all decide whether a plan survives. Those are the parts of this search where proximity is the right answer.

Which authority covers a school in Kalba or Khor Fakkan?+

The Sharjah Private Education Authority, because both are Sharjah exclaves on the east coast despite being minutes from Fujairah. Fujairah's own private schools are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education, which also covers Ajman and Umm Al Quwain. Ras Al Khaimah has its Department of Knowledge, Dubai the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, and Abu Dhabi and Al Ain the Department of Education and Knowledge. Those five are the complete map. The practical effect of crossing that boundary is different term dates, different fee rules and a different inspection cycle, on the same stretch of road.

Is a local tutor cheaper than one further away?+

Usually yes for a general tutor, and not necessarily for a specialist. Published market rates in October 2026 put visiting one-to-one tuition in the UAE at AED 180-500 per hour with travel inside the fee, qualified online subject tutors at AED 150-300, IB and IGCSE specialists at AED 200-450 and above, and premium or examiner-experienced tutors at AED 500-650 and above. On this coast the travel component dominates the visiting figure. Those are other providers' published rates rather than a price list; a specific subject and level is a consultation, followed by one trial session per family at no charge.

How do we check that a nearby tutor is permitted to teach for money?+

Ask to see the MoHRE private tuition work permit. It was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and appears on MoHRE's own site as Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing with no fee and a two-working-day completion time through the smart app, website and e-services system. Eligibility covers registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE states that tutoring without a permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and publishes no amounts, so disregard figures circulating online.

My son is one of five students in his Higher Level group. Does that affect his grade?+

It affects the conditions rather than the ceiling. Small groups often get more attention per student, which is a real advantage. What they get less of is specialism and volume: the teacher probably covers other subjects too, the group has collectively worked through fewer past papers, and there is less peer comparison to reveal that an individual has drifted. The practical fix is volume of marked timed work against the published scheme, which is exactly what a subject specialist outside the school can supply without anyone changing school or driving anywhere.

Would weekly boarding west of the mountains be better than arranging tuition?+

It can be, and the deciding question is whether the problem is the subject or the provision. If your child wants a Higher Level combination the local school cannot staff at all, tuition does not fix that and a move or a boarding arrangement is the honest answer. If the subjects are available locally and one of them has stalled, boarding is an expensive solution to a problem a specialist can address in a term. Settle which situation you are in by asking the school directly what it can and cannot offer next year, in writing, before costing anything else.

Do you have tutors who actually live in Fujairah?+

The question to ask is which subject, because residence is not how the matching works. Every session is one-to-one over live video and scheduled in Gulf Standard Time, so a tutor's location affects their own working hours rather than your child's lesson time. IB Gram does not send anyone to a Fujairah address; visiting tuition is a service offered only in India. What that buys an east-coast family is the pool: instead of choosing among people willing to drive the mountain road, you are choosing among people who teach your child's subject at your child's level.

What if no specialist is available, near or far?+

You get told, with the alternatives named. Higher Level physics, Further Mathematics where a school offers it, and the smaller Group 3 and Group 6 options regularly have no UAE-based specialist free at the hour a Fujairah family needs. The options at that point are a specialist in another time zone teaching into a Gulf Standard Time slot, a fortnightly longer session, or a wait until a slot opens. None of that sits behind an enquiry form. No competitor in this market publishes a coverage limit anywhere, which is precisely why it is written on this page.

Two lists, and one email to the school

Make the local list and the subject list, then send the local one to the school: exam centre, Cambridge administrative zone, the series it enters, its internal entry deadline, and the bus times that decide your evening. Send the subject list here instead: which Diploma subjects, which are at Higher Level, and the last two marked scripts. Those are different questions with different answers, and separating them is what turns a proximity search into a plan. Lessons are one-to-one and delivered live over video in Gulf Standard Time; IB Gram holds no board or regulator approval, names no school as a partner, and does not send anyone to a Fujairah address.
