IB and IGCSE tutors for Motor City families

Enquiries about IB and IGCSE tutors in Motor City cluster around one point in the year: the term when the papers stop being distant. The useful question then is not how much tutoring to buy but what the remaining weeks should contain, in what order. IB Gram teaches one-to-one over live video, and this page counts the Motor City exam term backwards from the paper rather than forwards from today.

  • The term planned backwards from the paper, week by week
  • Lessons delivered online, one-to-one, over live video
  • Board deadlines quoted from Cambridge and Pearson's own material

IB & IGCSE in Motor City

Plans built forwards from today usually run out of calendar

Most tutoring plans begin the same way. It is October, the mocks were disappointing, and a family decides to start an hour a week and see how it goes. That is a plan built forwards from today, and it has no relationship to the thing it is meant to prepare for. Examination boards do not work forwards. They work from fixed dates, several of which fall months before the paper, and a plan that ignores them is improvising with a deadline attached.

Built backwards, the same term looks entirely different. Twenty weeks out, there is room to teach content and fix a gap. Twelve weeks out, mixed practice should be taking over. Eight weeks out, content teaching should be finishing and whole papers under timing should be the main activity. Four weeks out, nothing new should be introduced at all. Each of those phases has a different session shape, and the sequence matters more than the total number of hours.

Motor City families bring a specific version of this because of where the community sits. The school cluster around Motor City and Dubai Sports City is largely self-contained, so the school run is shorter than for households further out in Dubailand - but Al Khail Road and the Hessa Street junctions still set the arrival time, and in exam term the evening also has to hold revision the student does alone. The slot is not the whole plan; it is the smaller part of it.

There is also a question families ask less often than they should, which is when to stop. Tutoring in the final week is usually counterproductive: it introduces new material at the point where consolidation matters, and it takes time from the student's own practice. A provider who never raises the question of stopping is not managing a plan, and this page says plainly where the endpoint belongs.

On delivery: lessons run one-to-one over live video with screen sharing, which is how a tutor and a student mark a paper together. IB Gram does not run home visits in Dubai; in-home tutoring is a service offered only in India. In exam season that matters practically - a session can be rescheduled the same week rather than negotiated around a tutor's route, which is useful when a school adds an unexpected mock.

No figure on this page is an IB Gram price; the rates quoted are market rates with their source named. The Cambridge and Pearson dates come from the boards' own published material. IB session dates are deliberately absent, because ibo.org blocks automated checking and no IB date in this project has been confirmed from the IB directly. Nothing here promises a grade either, and the sequence below is the reason: what the remaining weeks contain is partly in a family's control, while what a particular paper asks is not.

At a glance

  • Online one-to-one lessons over live video; no UAE home visits
  • The term phased by weeks remaining, with a different session shape in each phase
  • Cambridge and Pearson deadlines and results dates from official sources
  • A whole-paper marking routine the student runs between sessions
  • A stated endpoint, because tutoring in the final week usually costs marks
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three programmes account for nearly all exam-term requests from Motor City. Each note below describes what the final stretch of that programme actually demands, which is the part a generic programme description leaves out.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE

Two years of specification-led courses examined at the end of Year 11, with the syllabus code deciding the papers, the tiering and the formula sheet. In the final term eight or nine subjects compete for the same evenings, which means the revision plan is mostly a prioritisation problem rather than a content problem.

Motor City Year 11 families usually arrive wanting three or four subjects covered and leave with one or two, plus a marking routine for the rest. That is not a compromise; with eight weeks left, two subjects done properly and six self-marked beats four subjects half-covered and four ignored.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects with three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Two years of work converges on one examination session, with internally assessed components due before it. The final stretch is therefore two problems at once: finishing coursework and building paper technique across six subjects.

The sequencing question for a Diploma student in the final year is which comes first, and the answer is coursework. Internally assessed work has an immovable school deadline and a known mark allocation; paper practice can be compressed later, while a missed coursework deadline cannot be recovered at all.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Four criteria per subject group, each marked out of eight, with no external papers until optional eAssessment at the end of Year 11. For students taking eAssessment the final term looks more like an IGCSE run than most families expect, with timed on-screen tasks replacing the interim assessment pattern.

Where a Motor City school enters students for MYP eAssessment, the final-term work is specifically about working to time on screen rather than about more content. Students who have only ever been assessed on interim tasks find the timing, not the material, is what costs them.

PYPAges 3-11 · FS1-Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Transdisciplinary units with reporting against outcomes rather than marks, and no public examinations. What matters here is building the habits the later stages assume: reading daily, knowing number facts cold, and attempting work that has not been set. None of that needs an exam-term plan.

The useful thing for a Motor City primary family during an older sibling's exam term is simply to keep the younger child's routine intact. Households often suspend everything for the Year 11 child and then find the Year 5 child has lost a term of reading habit.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The subjects below are the ones Motor City families most often want covered in the final stretch, with a note on what the last weeks in each should actually consist of. In several cases the answer is practice rather than teaching.

IGCSE Mathematics

Core and Extended

In the final eight weeks this is whole papers under timing, not topic revision. Extended candidates lose marks on multi-step problems mixing two topics with no signposted method, and only full papers reproduce that condition. Check the tier before buying any practice material.

IGCSE Physics

Cambridge and Pearson specifications

The written practical paper is where late gains are easiest, because it tests reading an unfamiliar method and finding its weakness - a narrow, teachable skill almost nobody practises. Four or five sessions on it can move a grade more than ten sessions of content revision.

IGCSE Chemistry

Cambridge and Pearson specifications

Moles calculations and organic chemistry reward drill right up to the paper. These are also the topics students avoid when revising alone, because they are uncomfortable, which is exactly why a tutored hour on them is good value late on.

IGCSE Biology

Cambridge and Pearson specifications

Late marks come from command terms and terminology precision rather than from more content. A student who learns to answer the verb that was used can gain across every long question, and that is a fortnight of drill rather than a term of teaching.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

At Higher Level the final weeks belong to full papers and to the harder calculus and proof questions students have been skipping. If the exploration is still unfinished, it comes first: it has a fixed deadline and a known mark allocation, and papers can be compressed afterwards.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Calculator technique is the late gain here and is genuinely teachable: students lose time and marks to clumsy use of the graphical calculator on questions they understand perfectly. Interpretation marks are the second gap, and both respond to paper practice.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Energetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms carry the Higher Level papers, and the final weeks are about working through them under timing. The internally assessed investigation, if still open, takes priority because its deadline will not move.

Physics

HL and SL

The data-analysis component is the least-practised part of the course and the easiest place to find late marks. Beyond that, the recurring loss is algebraic rather than conceptual, which paper practice exposes and topic revision hides.

Biology

HL and SL

Volume invites rereading, which is the least effective revision available. Retrieval against past questions, marked strictly against the scheme, is what moves the grade in the last ten weeks, and it is something a student can run alone once shown how.

Economics and Business Management

HL and SL

Both are won in the final weeks on application under timing rather than on content. Economics marks live in correctly labelled diagrams; Business Management marks live in evaluating a decision. Both are fixable with past-paper case studies and strict marking.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three arrangements cover exam-term work from this community, and they are phased rather than alternative: most families use the first, then the second, then stop. The third exists for students whose coursework is still open.

Weekly one-to-one while there is still time to teach

A fixed weekly hour used for actual teaching, appropriate while the papers are more than about ten weeks away. Content gaps get closed, methods get rebuilt, and the student practises between sessions. The session is driven by their own marked scripts rather than by syllabus order.

  • Appropriate when more than ten weeks remain
  • Driven by returned papers, not by a revision timetable
  • Written summary each week naming the next target
  • Converts to the intensive shape as the papers approach

The exam-run intensive on paper technique

A short block in the final six to ten weeks, with content teaching stopped. Sessions become whole papers under timing, strict marking against the published scheme, command-term drill and a rebuilt approach to the first five minutes of a paper. It has a fixed session count agreed at the start and an explicit end date.

  • Whole papers under timing, marked to the published scheme
  • Command-term drill until the verb triggers the right structure
  • A written plan for the first five minutes of each paper
  • Fixed number of sessions, ending before the final week

Coursework checkpoints that take priority over papers

Where an internal assessment or Extended Essay is still open in the final year, it goes first. Checkpoints sit against the school's own draft dates, the tutor teaches the criteria by letter and questions the method, and the student does the writing. Paper practice resumes once the component is submitted.

  • Scheduled to the school's deadlines, not the board's
  • Criteria taught by letter with the mark allocation shown
  • Feedback given as questions, never as replacement text
  • The student must be able to defend every choice unaided

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Motor City

01

What the remaining weeks should contain, phase by phase

The direct answer is that a revision term has four phases and they are not interchangeable. With more than twenty weeks left, teach. Between twelve and twenty, shift to mixed practice on taught material. Between eight and twelve, finish content and make whole papers the main activity. Inside eight weeks, teach nothing new and spend the time on timed papers, strict marking and the handful of technique faults that cost marks everywhere.

Families get this wrong in a predictable direction. They stay in the teaching phase far too long, because teaching feels productive and timed papers feel exposing. A student who is still being taught new material four weeks out has not had time to practise any of it under pressure, which means the new material will not be available to them in the paper. The teaching was real and the benefit was not.

The second common error is the opposite one, made by families who start late: going straight to whole papers with twenty weeks available and significant content gaps. A student who cannot do the topics will produce low scores on paper after paper, learn mostly that they are bad at the subject, and arrive at the exam demoralised. With twenty weeks there is time to fix the gaps first, and it should be used for that.

The table sets out the phases with what the session, the student and the schedule should be doing in each. Use the weeks-remaining column rather than the month, because the series matters: a student entered for the November series is inside the final phase in September, while a June candidate at the same school is still being taught new content. Both are in Year 11 and they should be doing different things.

Counted backwards: the board calendar that constrains the plan

Several of the dates that decide a student's options fall long before the examination, and families who meet them late lose a series rather than a week. Entries carry the syllabus code and, on Cambridge subjects, the tier, so the decision that caps a grade is taken months ahead of the paper being sat. A revision plan that does not have these dates on it is not a plan.

Cambridge runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level examinations in a June series and a November series — the two windows available in the UAE — plus Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October, which are not IGCSE sittings and should never be used to anchor a Year 11 plan. Converted into the weeks-remaining column above, a June candidate's final phase sits in the spring and a November candidate's sits in September, and in both cases the entry that fixes the tier closed months earlier, on a date Cambridge publishes per series and prints on the statement of entry. Pearson's November 2026 International GCSE timetable, which ran from late October to 19 November 2026, shows how a window of that kind actually lands. Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong zone's timetable.

Pearson Edexcel runs International GCSE in May/June and November each year. The November 2026 final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series and revises them, so the live official timetable is the only version worth planning against.

IB dates are absent from this page on purpose. The IB's own site blocks automated checking, so no IB session, registration or results date in this project has been confirmed from the IB directly. UAE schools sit the May session; for the exact window, the internal deadlines and the results date, ask your child's IB coordinator and build the backward plan from what they confirm in writing.

The last eight weeks: what to stop doing

  • Stop making notes; copying is not revision at this stage
  • Stop teaching new content, including topics the student requests
  • Stop open-book topic practice; the unit of work is a whole paper
  • Stop generous marking; mark to the scheme's wording, not to intent

Most advice about the final stretch is additive - do more of this, add that. The useful advice is subtractive, because the binding constraint is hours and every new activity displaces an existing one. Inside eight weeks there are four things that should stop, and stopping them is free.

Stop making notes. Note-making is a copying task that feels like studying and produces almost no retrievable memory. A student with a complete set of beautiful notes and no practice history is in a worse position than one with scrappy notes and a stack of marked papers. If notes are needed as a reference, they are already made; if they are not made by now, making them will not help.

Stop teaching new content, including content the student asks for. A topic learned four weeks before a paper will not have been practised under pressure, so it will not be available in the examination. The honest advice to a student who discovers a gap at this stage is that the gap is now a known cost, and the marks elsewhere that technique can recover are worth more than the ones the gap is taking.

Stop topic-by-topic practice with the book open, and stop generous marking. Both produce the feeling of competence without the substance. From eight weeks out the unit of work is a whole paper, under timing, notes closed, marked against the published scheme in a different colour, with every lost mark logged under one of four reasons. The log is what turns practice into a plan, and it is the single thing that most reliably separates a student who improves in the final stretch from one who does not.

04

The whole-paper routine that actually moves a grade

Whole papers under timing are the highest-yield revision activity available at any price, and they are free. The boards publish past papers and mark schemes and schools can supply them. What determines whether they work is entirely in the execution, and most students execute them in a way that removes the benefit.

The routine is narrow enough to write down. One whole paper, correct board and correct tier, in one sitting, under the real time limit, with notes closed and no calculator shortcuts the real paper would not allow. Then mark it against the published scheme in a different colour, to the scheme's wording rather than to whether the answer seemed reasonable. Then log each lost mark under one of four reasons: did not know it, misread the question, ran out of time, or wrote the wrong structure for the command term.

That log is the point of the exercise. After three papers a pattern appears, and it is usually lopsided: one reason accounts for most of the losses and the other three are nearly empty. A student losing marks mainly to misreading needs a procedure for the first thirty seconds of a question, which takes a fortnight. A student losing them mainly to timing needs more whole papers, not more content. Those are different plans, and the log is what tells you which you are in.

The table gives a workable volume by subject for the final ten weeks. Two cautions. First, use papers from the correct board and tier: Cambridge Core and Extended papers are different sets, and Pearson papers are structured differently again. Second, access the material through the school or the boards' own sites - past papers and mark schemes belong to Cambridge, Pearson and the IB, and a tutor offering a downloadable pack of them is redistributing something that is not theirs to give.

05

When tutoring should stop

Almost nobody in this market will tell a family to stop, which is why it is worth saying clearly. An exam-run block should end before the final week, and in most cases a week to ten days before the first paper. The reason is not cost. It is that at that point the student's own consolidation is more valuable than anything a tutor can add, and a session in the last week displaces it.

There is a second reason, which is about the student rather than the schedule. A student still being taught days before a paper receives a message about their readiness, and it is not a helpful one. The final week should feel like the end of a process that was completed, not the continuation of a rescue. Ending the block on a planned date, after a session that reviews what was achieved, is a materially better last experience than tapering off.

There is a narrow exception. Where a student has a specific technique fault that is still costing marks - freezing in the first ten minutes, mismanaging the time split across sections, consistently misreading a particular command term - a single short session in the last week aimed only at that is justified, because it is consolidation rather than addition. That is a different thing from a scheduled lesson that continues because it was in the diary.

After the papers there is usually nothing to buy until results. The honest exception is a student who knows a resit is likely and wants to start before the decision is formal - and even then, the first useful step is the script review once results arrive rather than teaching in the gap. For a Motor City family the better use of that period is the younger sibling whose routine was suspended for a term.

06

What to buy in the final ten weeks, and what each purchase should produce

Budgets tighten exactly when the pressure peaks, which produces poor decisions. Families buy more subjects than the weeks can hold, or buy a premium rate for homework supervision, or buy a group revision course that repeats content the student already has. The way to avoid all three is to require each purchase to name its output before it is made.

The rates below were read from provider listings and a published Dubai rate survey in October 2026. They are market rates rather than an IB Gram price list; ask for our figure before booking and hold it against the band. The last column is the test: a purchase that cannot state what it should have produced by the first paper is not a purchase with a plan behind it.

Two specific judgements are worth making explicitly. A group revision course is usually poor value inside eight weeks, because it covers content at a pace set by the group while the student's actual losses are individual and diagnosable. And a premium specialist rate is good value for Higher Level work and paper technique, and poor value for supervising past papers the student could mark themselves once shown the method.

The cheapest high-value purchase in the whole of exam term is a single diagnostic hour spent reading three marked papers and building the loss log with the student. It costs one hour at a qualified rate, it produces the plan for the remaining weeks, and in a meaningful number of cases it shows that no further paid hours are needed - just the routine, run properly, by a student who now knows what they are looking for.

Which schools Motor City children attend, and when the bus gets back

Motor City is better served than most of the Dubailand belt, with schools inside the community and more immediately east in Dubai Sports City. A child at one of the local schools can be home by about half past three, which makes a four o'clock session realistic - a genuine advantage during exam term, when the useful hour is the one before fatigue rather than the one after dinner.

Older students more often travel, which changes the arithmetic. A Diploma student at a school across Al Khail Road or down towards the Ranches is typically home between five and six, which puts a weekday session at the wrong end of the evening for sustained work. For those students a weekend block of ninety minutes is worth more than two weekday hours, particularly for whole-paper practice that needs an uninterrupted stretch.

The board question matters here as everywhere. The schools in this cluster choose examination boards subject by subject, so a student can sit Cambridge in the sciences and Pearson in Mathematics, and past papers downloaded for the wrong board will be misleading in the one term where misleading practice is most expensive. Ask the examinations officer for the board, the code and the tier, in writing, before buying material or booking a tutor.

For market context: KHDA counted 227 private schools and 387,441 pupils in Dubai in 2024-25 across seventeen curricula, and confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year. Dubai is adding seven new private schools for 2026-27, four British and three IB, creating 16,846 places. KHDA licenses and inspects schools and publishes inspection outcomes on a six-band scale; it does not license private tutors, and IB Gram claims no approval from it or from any board.

08

Coursework at the end of the course, and the line that does not move

  • Coursework before papers: its deadline is fixed and its marks are certain
  • Criteria taught by letter, with the weakest one identified first
  • No supplied text and no rewritten sections, whatever the deadline
  • Incomplete work the student wrote beats complete work they did not

In the final year, coursework and papers compete, and coursework should win. An internal assessment has a fixed school deadline and a known mark allocation, usually a meaningful share of the subject grade. Paper practice can be compressed into fewer weeks if it has to be; a missed coursework deadline cannot be recovered at all. Families who reverse this order lose marks that were available with certainty in exchange for marks that were not.

The pressure of that period is also where the honesty line gets tested hardest. Providers in this market sell finished internal assessments at a fixed price, and the offer looks most reasonable precisely when a deadline is close and a student is behind. The arithmetic is worth stating: a student who submits purchased work faces their school's academic honesty process and, under IB rules, a malpractice finding that can cost the entire diploma. The provider keeps the fee.

What a tutor can legitimately do in that window is substantial. Teach the criteria by letter and the marks attached to each. Identify which criterion is currently scoring nothing, which is usually one specific thing rather than the whole piece. Question the method, the data and the conclusion. Help the student decide which two hours of work recover the most marks. Respond to a draft with questions rather than corrections.

What a tutor must not do does not change with the deadline: no supplied text, no restructured argument, no rewritten section handed back to be retyped. The test is whether the student can defend every decision in the work under questioning, without notes. Submitting incomplete work the student wrote is a better outcome than submitting complete work they did not, and a tutor who will not say that out loud to a frightened family is not being helpful.

09

Availability in exam season, and the fallback when nobody is free

Exam season is when supply is tightest and demand is highest, which is a bad combination for a family deciding in February that help is needed for May. Higher Level Mathematics and Higher Level Physics are the first to go. Specialists in paper technique for a particular board are booked earlier than subject tutors generally. And the weeks immediately after results produce a resit rush that fills the same pool again.

The practical answer is to book the diagnostic early even if the block starts later. A diagnostic hour in November costs the same as one in February and produces a plan with fourteen more weeks in it. Where a family cannot book early, we say what is actually available rather than matching approximately: a specialist based outside the UAE, most often in India, teaching the same specification online with the base and time difference stated, or a waiting-list place with a date attached.

The time-difference point is not a formality in exam term. A tutor two and a half hours ahead cannot take a seven o'clock Dubai slot, and a student who needs their session at five because that is when they still have attention cannot take a tutor who is only free at nine. Those constraints have to be visible before booking, not discovered in week two when the schedule is already tight.

On the regulatory position, since parents ask: private tutoring in the UAE requires the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years, covering registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. Tutoring without one attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so none is quoted. IB Gram operates no UAE centre, holds no KHDA Educational Services Permit, and delivers lessons online.

Nearby areas we cover around Motor City

Motor City sits between Al Khail Road and the Dubailand belt, with Dubai Sports City beside it and the Arabian Ranches communities to the south. The notes below cover the communities whose children share the same schools and the same exam-term evenings.

Motor City

Uptown Motor City apartments, the Green Community villas and the Casa Familia and Dubai Autodrome edges, with two schools inside the community. Children at the local schools are home early enough for a session before five, which is unusual this far from the coast.

Dubai Sports City

Immediately east, sharing the same school cluster and the same roads. Students with academy training commitments there have a second fixed obstacle in the evening, and training schedules rarely move for revision.

Victory Heights

Villa community adjoining Sports City with a primary school inside it. Secondary students here travel out, most often to the Motor City schools or further north across Hessa Street.

Arabian Ranches and Arabian Ranches 2

South along the Al Khail corridor, with established schools of their own. Families moving between the Ranches and Motor City usually keep the school and absorb the longer run, which pushes sessions later.

Dubai Hills Estate

North across Al Khail Road, newer and growing. The Al Khail crossing in the late afternoon is the main variable for any Motor City household using a Dubai Hills school.

Jumeirah Village Circle and Triangle

North-west across Hessa Street, sharing some routes. Requests from that direction concentrate on IGCSE Mathematics and the sciences in Years 10 and 11.

DAMAC Hills

South-west down Umm Suqeim Road, with its own school inside the community. Students travelling from there to the Motor City cluster are among the latest arrivals in this catchment.

Remraam and Mudon

Further south in the Dubailand belt, on longer bus runs. For those households an 18:00 start is realistic, which is the clearest single argument for a weekend block in exam term.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Motor City

The Motor City and Sports City cluster

The schools inside or immediately beside the two communities, covering the British route to IGCSE and the IB Diploma. They run both examination boards, so a tutor match starts from the entry code. Students we support attend schools across this cluster.

  • GEMS Metropole School Motor City
  • GEMS Metropole Al Waha
  • Victory Heights Primary School
  • Bradenton Preparatory Academy
  • GEMS United School Dubai
  • Dubai British School Jumeirah Park

The wider Al Khail corridor

Where older students from this area often travel, taking in the Arabian Ranches, Dubai Hills and Al Barsha South schools. These longer routes are what push an exam-term session towards the weekend for the oldest child in a household.

  • Jumeirah English Speaking School Arabian Ranches
  • Ranches Primary School
  • Safa Community School
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • Dubai Heights Academy
  • Jebel Ali School

Schools are named as local context for Motor City families only; IB Gram claims no affiliation with, endorsement by or partnership with any school listed.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the series and the first paper date

Not the month, the series: Cambridge March, Cambridge June, Pearson November, the IB May session as confirmed by the coordinator. The whole plan is phased on weeks remaining, and two students in the same Year 11 class sitting different series should be doing different things this week.

  2. 02

Send three marked papers, including a bad one

The diagnostic works from scripts rather than from report grades. Three papers are enough for a pattern to appear, and the pattern is usually lopsided - one cause accounts for most losses. You get the loss log and the phased plan in writing before anything is booked.

  3. 03

Confirm the board, code and tier

Ask the examinations officer in writing for the board, the syllabus code and, on Cambridge subjects, the tier. In exam term practising the wrong board's papers is the most expensive mistake available, because there is no time left to correct the picture it gives.

  4. 04

Fix the phase, the slot and the session count

We agree which phase the student is in, how many sessions the block contains, and the weekly slot timed from their actual arrival home. For a student travelling across Al Khail Road that usually means a weekend block rather than a late weekday hour.

  5. 05

Put coursework first if it is still open

Where an internal assessment or Extended Essay is unfinished, checkpoints against the school's draft dates take priority over paper practice. Its deadline is fixed and its marks are certain; paper work can be compressed afterwards, and a missed coursework deadline cannot be recovered.

  6. 06

Set the end date at the start

The block ends a week to ten days before the first paper, on a date agreed when it begins, with a final session that reviews what was achieved. At that point the student's own consolidation is worth more than anything a session can add.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The plan is phased on weeks, not on months

Twenty weeks out, teach. Twelve out, mix. Eight out, whole papers only. Two out, technique alone. Most plans stay in the teaching phase far too long, because teaching feels productive and timed papers feel exposing.

Board deadlines are on the plan from the start

Cambridge's March entry deadline in late November, Pearson's November timetable ending on the nineteenth, the results lag of roughly two months - these change what is possible, and families meet them late more often than they miss anything academic.

The free routine is specified and checked

Whole paper, right board and tier, timed, closed notes, marked to the scheme in a different colour, every loss logged under one of four reasons. That routine does most of the work, and it stops the moment nobody is checking it.

We name the point at which to stop

The block ends a week to ten days before the first paper. Sessions in the final week displace consolidation and send a student an unhelpful message about their readiness. A provider who never proposes stopping is not managing a plan.

Rates in AED with sources and dates

Every figure here is attributed to the provider or survey that published it and dated to October 2026, and each purchase is required to name what it should produce by the first paper.

Coursework takes priority, and the line holds

Marks on an internal assessment are certain and its deadline is fixed, so it goes first. No text is supplied and no section rewritten, however close the deadline. Incomplete work the student wrote beats complete work they did not.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Motor City: your questions answered

My child's exams are eight weeks away. Is it too late to start?+

No, but the right work is different from what it would have been in October. With eight weeks left the plan is whole papers under timing, strict marking against the published scheme, and the two or three technique faults that cost marks across every question. Content teaching should largely stop, because a topic learned now will not have been practised under pressure and so will not be available in the paper. Start with one diagnostic hour on three marked scripts: it produces the loss log that tells you where the recoverable marks actually are.

What time can a session start for a Motor City family in exam term?+

Earlier than in most of this part of Dubai, which is genuinely useful. A child at one of the schools inside Motor City or Dubai Sports City is often home by about half past three, making a four o'clock start realistic - and the hour before fatigue is worth considerably more than the hour after dinner for timed-paper work. Students travelling across Al Khail Road or down towards the Ranches are usually back between five and six, which is why a weekend block of ninety minutes suits them better than a late weekday hour.

Does IB Gram send tutors to Motor City apartments or villas?+

No. IB Gram does not provide in-home tutoring anywhere in the UAE; in-home visits are a service offered only in India. Lessons run one-to-one over live video with screen sharing, which is how a tutor and a student mark a paper together on the same screen. In exam term there is a practical benefit: a session disrupted by an unexpected school mock can be moved within the same week rather than renegotiated around a tutor's driving route, and the tutor pool is defined by who knows the paper.

How many timed papers should a Year 11 student do each fortnight?+

In the final ten weeks, roughly two full Mathematics papers and one full paper plus one practical paper in each science per fortnight, with one reading and one writing task in English. That volume is only useful if the execution is right: one sitting, real time limit, notes closed, correct board and tier, then marked against the published scheme in a different colour with every lost mark logged by reason. Three papers is usually enough for the pattern to emerge, and the pattern is what the plan should respond to.

Should we add more subjects in the final term or fewer?+

Fewer, almost always. With eight weeks left, two subjects worked properly plus a marking routine the student runs across the rest beats four subjects half-covered and four ignored. The subjects to fund are the ones where the marked scripts show a specific, recoverable loss - a practical paper that is costing a grade, a calculator technique problem, a command-term fault. Spreading a fixed budget across every subject in the final term is the commonest way a family spends real money and sees no change in the results.

What should my child stop doing in the last eight weeks?+

Four things, and stopping them costs nothing. Stop making notes: copying is not revision and a complete set of notes with no practice history is worse than scrappy notes with a stack of marked papers. Stop learning new content, including topics the student asks for, because it will not have been practised under pressure. Stop open-book topic practice, since the unit of work is now a whole paper. And stop generous marking - mark to the scheme's wording rather than to what the answer appeared to mean.

Why does the entry deadline matter when the exam is months away?+

Because the entry carries the syllabus code and, on Cambridge subjects, the tier - so the decision that caps the available grade is taken months before the paper. In the UAE that entry goes in ahead of either the June series or the November series, on a date Cambridge publishes per series and prints on the statement of entry; for June papers it is a spring-term decision. If a family wants a tier changed or a subject added, that conversation has to happen before the entry closes, because afterwards the only lever left is a later series. Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, and using the wrong zone's timetable can cause a candidate to miss a paper.

Which schools do Motor City children attend?+

Many stay local: there are schools inside Motor City itself and more immediately east in Dubai Sports City, with Victory Heights Primary School alongside. Older students more often travel, across Al Khail Road to the Dubai Hills and Al Barsha South schools or south towards the Arabian Ranches cluster. Those schools choose examination boards subject by subject, so one student can sit Cambridge in the sciences and Pearson in Mathematics. Ask the examinations officer for the board, the code and the tier before buying practice material.

Can revision carry on through Ramadan if it falls before the exams?+

Yes, with the shape changed rather than the volume. School days shorten and the household rhythm shifts, so the productive window often moves later in the day. In exam term the sensible adjustment is shorter, more frequent sessions and timed sections rather than full papers during the day, with whole papers moved to whichever part of the day the student is actually sharp. What does not work is leaving a full schedule nominally in place and cancelling week by week, which costs the money and loses the continuity at the worst possible time.

When should tutoring actually stop?+

A week to ten days before the first paper, on a date agreed when the block began. At that point the student's own consolidation is worth more than anything a session can add, and a lesson in the final week displaces it. There is one narrow exception: a single short session aimed only at a specific technique fault, such as freezing in the first ten minutes or mismanaging the time split across sections, counts as consolidation rather than addition. Ending on a planned date after a review session is a better last experience than tapering off.

Is a holiday intensive course worth it before the papers?+

It depends entirely on what it contains. An intensive built around whole papers under timing, strict marking and individual loss analysis is good value, because it is concentrated practice with diagnosis. An intensive that re-covers content at a pace set by a group is usually poor value inside eight weeks, since the student's actual losses are individual and the content is already in their notes. Ask what proportion of the hours will be spent on timed papers and on marking. If the answer is less than half, it is a content course.

My child panics in the first ten minutes of a paper. Can that be fixed?+

Yes, and it is one of the fastest gains available late on, because it is procedural rather than academic. The fix is a written plan for the first five minutes: which page to read first, how long to spend scanning, which question to start with, what to do when the first question is unfamiliar. Then it is rehearsed under timing until it is automatic, which usually takes three or four papers. Students who freeze are generally not short of knowledge; they are short of a routine for the moment the paper lands.

How do we mark past papers at home without a tutor?+

Strictly, and to the scheme rather than to intent. Download the mark scheme for the exact paper, mark in a different colour, and award marks only where the scheme's wording is met - method marks only where the method is actually visible, no credit for a described answer to an explain question, units and uncertainties marked properly in the sciences. Then log every lost mark under one of four reasons: did not know it, misread, ran out of time, or wrong structure for the command term. Access papers through the school or the boards' own sites.

Is there any point tutoring between the last paper and results?+

Usually not. Nothing can be changed by then, and the useful work - reviewing the scripts, deciding on a resit, planning the next course - needs the results to exist first. The honest exception is a student who already knows they will be resitting a subject and wants a running start, and even there the first step is the script review once results arrive. For a Motor City household the better use of that period is often the younger sibling whose routine was suspended for a term.

What if the subject tutor we need is fully booked in exam season?+

You are told before booking rather than matched approximately. Higher Level Mathematics and Higher Level Physics fill first, and board-specific paper-technique specialists go earlier than subject tutors generally. The options are a specialist based outside the UAE, most often in India, teaching the same specification online with the base and time difference stated up front, or a waiting-list place with a date attached. The time difference matters in exam term: a tutor several hours ahead cannot take a late Dubai slot, and that has to be known before the schedule is built.

Count the weeks, then decide what the weeks should contain

Tell us the series and the date of the first paper, send three marked scripts including one that went badly, and confirm the board, code and tier from the entry form. You will get a loss log that assigns every lost mark to one of four causes, a plan phased by weeks remaining rather than by month, a named tutor who teaches that specification, the rate in AED, a fixed session count, and an end date a week to ten days before the first paper. If the scripts show the routine will do the job on its own, you will be told that too. Lessons run online, one-to-one, over live video.
