IB Home Tutor in Motor City

Hiring an IB home tutor in Motor City in February for a May session is the most expensive way to buy tutoring, and the most common. This page sets the Diploma out as a two-year calendar instead: what each term has to achieve, which deadlines your school sets rather than the IB, how Ramadan moves the revision window, and what support costs term by term. Teaching is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; IB Gram makes no home visits in the UAE.

IB & IGCSE in Motor City

The Diploma is a six-term project, not a revision sprint

Motor City sits between Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road and the Dubai Autodrome, with GEMS Metropole School inside the community running a British curriculum through IGCSE. Diploma students from here commute out — to JESS Arabian Ranches, Nord Anglia International School Dubai, Fairgreen International School or one of the other Dubailand-corridor schools — and come home into a queue of evening commitments. That shape matters, because the thing that actually determines a Diploma result is not how hard the final term is worked but whether the six terms before it were spent on the right things.

Most families searching for an IB home tutor in Motor City are at term five or six. The marks have come back short, the session is close, and the request is for intensive help. That is a legitimate request and it works for some components. But it is the dearest point on the curve, and the work it can do is limited by what has already closed: an Internal Assessment already submitted cannot be improved, an Extended Essay research question locked in DP1 cannot be rewritten, and a subject-level choice made at the start of DP1 cannot be revisited at all.

So this page is a calendar. It sets out what each of the six terms should produce, separates the deadlines your school controls from the ones the IB controls, shows where the Ramadan window falls against a Dubai academic year, and prices support term by term rather than by the hour. The aim is that a family at term one can plan, and a family at term five can at least see clearly what is still movable.

One honest caveat about dates, which this page observes throughout. UAE candidates sit the May session. No IB examination or results date appears here, because ibo.org blocks automated verification and no IB date in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself. A family reorganises travel and a revision plan around an examination date, so publishing an unverified one would be worse than publishing none. Your school's Diploma coordinator has the real calendar, and the deadlines that bind first are internal anyway.

Delivery is stated plainly because it changes what you should expect. Tuition for UAE families runs one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with a shared whiteboard and a recording the student keeps. IB Gram does not operate home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service exists only in India. For a Motor City family the practical effect is scheduling: sessions can start at 17:30 after the drive home, run as short as 45 minutes, or sit at 20:30 after a fixture, none of which a visiting tutor can offer across this part of Dubailand.

At a glance

  • The deadlines that bite first are set by your school, not by the IB
  • Internal assessment is 20-25% of every Diploma subject grade
  • TOK and the Extended Essay together carry up to three bonus points
  • Subject and level choices close at the start of DP1 and cannot be revisited later
  • Ramadan shifts the revision window; plan the term around it, not into it
  • Sessions run to 21:00 Gulf Standard Time and are recorded
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three IB programmes generate enquiries from Motor City, and each runs on a different clock. Only the Diploma has a fixed external session at the end, which is why its calendar is the one worth mapping in detail.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects across six groups, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, each graded 1-7, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. TOK and the EE together contribute up to three bonus points, giving a 45-point ceiling. Every subject carries an internally assessed component worth 20-25%, marked in school and moderated by the IB.

Diploma students from Motor City travel out of the community to school, since GEMS Metropole School runs a British curriculum through IGCSE. The practical consequence for a tutoring calendar is that evening availability is tighter here than in communities with a Diploma school on the doorstep, so a weekly slot booked in term one is worth more than a scramble in term five.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups assessed against four criteria each, scored from 0 to 8 and converted to a 1-7 grade by published boundaries, with the Personal Project in the final year. Assessment is internal and continuous rather than examination-based, which means the calendar is set entirely by the school and varies between schools more than the Diploma does.

MYP families near Motor City attend the continuum schools in the Dubailand corridor, principally Fairgreen International School and Greenfield International School. The MYP calendar question that matters most is the Personal Project, whose deadlines fall across the final year and whose criteria reward documentation produced as the work happens.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-led, organised around six transdisciplinary themes, with no external examinations and continuous teacher assessment concluding in the Year 6 Exhibition. The calendar is the school's own, and tutoring at this stage is best timed to the long holidays, when fluency work can be done without competing with the school week.

Primary-age families around Motor City most often have children at Victory Heights Primary School or Bradenton Preparatory Academy in Dubai Sports City. Where the plan is an IB continuum, the Year 6 into Year 7 holiday is a useful window for written-structure work before MYP criteria arrive.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

At least two Diploma courses combined with a career-related study, a reflective project and a four-part core. Rare in the UAE and offered by a small number of Dubai schools. The reflective project has its own criteria and its own internal deadline, which is the component families most often ask about.

Because CP cohorts in Dubai are small, a Motor City family seeking CP support will almost never find a locally resident tutor who has taught that exact combination. This is the clearest case for online delivery: the relevant pool is everyone who has taught the course, not the handful within reach of the Autodrome roundabout.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The Diploma subjects most requested from the Motor City area, with a note on where each one's internal deadlines fall. Component weightings come from the published subject guides.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The Exploration is 20% at both levels and its school deadline usually falls in DP1 or early DP2. Paper 1 is sat without a calculator, which makes non-calculator fluency a DP1 term-one job rather than a revision-term one.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Calculator-permitted and statistics-led, with HL adding graph theory and matrices late in most schemes of work. The Exploration carries the same 20% and the same early deadline, and statistical vocabulary needs building before it.

Physics

HL and SL

Paper 1 at 36% covers multiple choice and data analysis; Paper 2 at 44% is extended response; the scientific investigation is 20%. The investigation's method approval point is the deadline families most often miss, because it falls before any data is collected.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Same component structure as Physics. Organic mechanism work should start in DP1 because it responds to drill over months rather than weeks, and the investigation fails most often on a method that was never checked for feasibility.

Biology

HL and SL

Content volume makes this a subject where falling behind in DP1 compounds. Command-term discipline is the cheapest early intervention, and the investigation deadline sits alongside those of any other science the student takes.

Economics

HL and SL

The portfolio of three commentaries, each capped at 800 words and based on a real published article, is spread across the two years with school deadlines for each. Leaving all three to one term is the standard error.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

The Individual Oral and, at Higher Level, the 1,200-1,500 word HL Essay both have internal deadlines. Extract selection for the Individual Oral is decided months before the assessment and determines how much there is to say.

Business Management

HL and SL

The internal assessment differs by level and both versions require real company data, which has to be obtainable. Choosing the company is a DP1 decision with consequences that only appear when the data cannot be found.

History

HL and SL

The historical investigation is internally assessed with a school deadline in DP1 or early DP2. Higher Level adds Paper 3, three essays in 150 minutes, which needs timed practice from the start of DP2 rather than from the mock.

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay

Core

The TOK essay is 1,600 words on a prescribed title and the exhibition is three objects with a 950-word commentary. The Extended Essay has a 4,000-word limit. All three have school-set deadlines spread across DP1 and DP2 and carry up to three bonus points between TOK and the EE.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, all one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, each belonging to a different point in the two-year calendar. Buying the wrong one for the term you are in is the commonest waste.

Term-one foundation slot

A weekly hour from the start of DP1, when the content is new and habits are still forming. This is the cheapest point on the whole curve: non-calculator fluency, command-term discipline and the habit of writing method are all installed in weeks here and cost months later. It also means the tutor knows the student before anything is urgent.

  • Booked in term one, not after the first marked papers
  • Habits installed while the content is still arriving
  • Same tutor through both Diploma years where possible
  • Pauses available across internal examination weeks

Internal assessment blocks on the school's dates

Short blocks scheduled backwards from each internal deadline: the science investigation, the mathematics Exploration, the Economics commentaries, the historical investigation, the TOK essay and the Extended Essay. Each gets four to six sessions placed before the date rather than after it, and the student writes everything submitted.

  • Dates taken from the school's own internal calendar
  • Research question or topic tested before drafting begins
  • Criterion-referenced feedback from the published descriptors
  • Word and page limits checked early, not at the end

Final-term intensive

One or two sessions a week through the last term, worked entirely from past papers and the student's own marked mocks. This is what most families ask for first and it is the right purchase only for what is still movable: examination technique, timing and residual content. It cannot repair a submitted internal assessment.

  • Starts from the marked mock rather than the syllabus
  • Full timed papers with the published schemes read afterwards
  • Error log maintained and reviewed weekly
  • Post-Iftar timing available where Ramadan falls in the term

The six terms, counted backwards from results day

A Diploma plan works backwards or it does not work. Counting forwards from today produces a revision timetable; counting backwards from results day shows which decisions close and when, and decisions closing is what actually limits a grade. The six terms of DP1 and DP2 each have a job, and a family that knows the job can tell at any point whether they are ahead or behind.

Term one of DP1 is about habits and choices. Subject and level selections are confirmed here and cannot be revisited meaningfully later, so a mismatch between a student and a course — Analysis and Approaches for someone who needed Applications and Interpretation, or a Higher Level science for someone carrying three of them — has to be identified now. It is also when non-calculator fluency, command-term discipline and the habit of showing method are cheapest to install.

Terms two and three of DP1 are about the internal assessments and the Extended Essay research question. Most schools set the EE subject and supervisor here, agree the research question, and run the first formal reflection. Science investigation methods are often approved in this window too. These are the dates families discover afterwards, and they are the ones a tutor can do most about if involved before them.

DP2 runs the other way: terms four and five are content completion plus the remaining internal deadlines and the TOK essay, and term six is examination technique and timed practice. By term six the only movable things are technique, timing, question selection and residual content. Everything internally assessed has closed. That is not a reason to skip term six — it is a reason not to let it be the only term you buy.

Which deadlines are your school's, and which are the IB's

Families routinely assume the IB sets every date. In practice almost every deadline a Diploma student actually meets is set by their school, working within the IB's submission windows, and the school's dates fall considerably earlier. That distinction is worth understanding because it changes who you ask and how much flexibility exists.

The school sets: the Extended Essay subject allocation, supervisor allocation, research question approval, reflection session dates, draft dates and final submission; internal assessment method approval and submission for every subject; the TOK exhibition and essay dates; mock examination windows; and the internal cut-off by which Higher Level content must be taught. These are the dates that constrain a student's year, and they are negotiable only in the sense that a school may grant an individual extension.

The IB sets the external session, the submission windows your school is working back from, and the results release. UAE candidates sit the May session. This page does not publish IB session or results dates because ibo.org blocks automated verification and no IB date in this project could be confirmed from the IB itself; your Diploma coordinator has them and ibo.org is authoritative.

The practical action is short and worth doing in the first fortnight of DP1. Ask the Diploma coordinator for the internal calendar in writing — every internal deadline for every subject plus the core — and put it on one page. Almost no family does this, and it is the single cheapest thing available: it converts a two-year programme from a vague pressure into a list of dates that can be planned against.

Ramadan, the UAE academic calendar and where revision actually fits

This is the part of planning that almost no tutoring page in this market addresses, and it is the part a Dubai family lives with. The UAE academic year carries its own rhythm — a long summer break, National Day, a winter break, a spring break and Ramadan — and the Ramadan period in particular reshapes a school day and a family evening at the same time as it falls in the run-up to summer examinations.

During Ramadan, school hours are shortened and the shape of the day changes: energy in the afternoon is lower, and the productive window for concentrated work moves to after Iftar. For a Diploma student in term five or six that is not a minor inconvenience, because it coincides with the period when timed paper practice should be at its most intense. A revision plan written in September that assumes thirty even weeks has not accounted for it.

What works in practice is to treat the Ramadan weeks as a different kind of work rather than as lost time. Short post-Iftar sessions, typically between 20:30 and 22:00, suit review, recall testing and marking a paper the student sat earlier. Full three-hour timed papers are better placed either side of the period. Recall-heavy work — definitions, formula lists, identification tables — fits well into short late sessions, and content teaching generally does not.

The planning consequence is to front-load. If Ramadan falls in the term before the session, the full-length timed paper practice has to start earlier than it otherwise would, and content completion has to be genuinely finished before it rather than running into it. A family that identifies this in term four has options; a family that meets it in term six has lost several weeks of their intended plan. Sessions can be rescheduled to post-Iftar timing on request, at no additional cost, and every session is recorded so a student working late can revisit it the next day.

What support costs term by term, not per hour

Hourly rates tell you very little about what a Diploma costs to support, because the need is uneven across six terms. A better unit is the term, and the pattern that actually works is heavier at the start, concentrated around each internal deadline, and heavier again at the end. Priced that way, the total is often lower than families expect and considerably lower than a constant weekly slot across two years.

The published Dubai bands, read in October 2026: Tutopiya from AED 33-52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45-65 at the entry level; Unitors IB tuition from AED 200 and IGCSE from AED 150; Bestimate's 2026 rate table at AED 150-300 for qualified online subject tutors, AED 180-350 for in-home one-to-one, and AED 200-450 or above for IB and IGCSE specialists, with independent home tutors reaching AED 500 once travel is included; TutorChase at AED 270; BartyED at AED 650 at the premium end. Monthly estimates from Bestimate for one weekly hour run roughly AED 240-600, AED 600-1,200 and AED 1,000-2,000 or above across the tiers.

Applied to a term of twelve weeks, the arithmetic is straightforward and the table below sets it out. The point of showing it this way is that it exposes the real decision, which is not whether to pay AED 250 or AED 300 an hour but which terms to buy. A family with a fixed budget almost always gets a better result spending it across term one, the internal assessment blocks and term six than spending all of it in term six.

IB Gram publishes no fixed hourly rate on this page because subject, level and urgency move it, and a quote follows the free diagnostic lesson rather than preceding it. One context figure: KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in Dubai private school fees for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within an AED 2.5 billion total. Fees are flat; tutoring is the variable line.

A Motor City evening, and why the format decides the schedule

Motor City has GEMS Metropole School inside it, which means primary and lower secondary families here have short school runs and real flexibility. Diploma families do not, because GEMS Metropole runs a British curriculum through IGCSE and Diploma students commute out across the Dubailand corridor. The drive back from Arabian Ranches, The Sustainable City or Dubai Investments Park in term-time afternoon traffic puts most students home between 16:30 and 17:30.

That makes about 18:00 the realistic earliest session start for a Diploma student in this postcode, and it makes two sessions a week across a whole term a scheduling question rather than a budget one. Online, two 45-minute sessions a week at 18:00 and 20:00 on different evenings is routine, and either can move later when a fixture or a music lesson already owns the slot.

A visiting tutor cannot offer that shape here. Forty to sixty minutes of travel each way means a two-hour minimum booking to justify the journey and a latest workable start of roughly 18:30, so the sixteen or twenty-four sessions a final-term plan needs become eight or twelve long ones at times that are hard on a student who has already done a school day and a commute. The published premium for that is AED 30-150 an hour over the equivalent online band.

Home visits remain a legitimate choice and for some students the right one: a younger child who cannot self-manage a screen, or a student whose written method needs correcting as it is produced. IB Gram does not offer them anywhere in the UAE — home visits are an India-only service for us — so the comparison below is offered to inform the decision rather than to argue a family out of something.

Academic honesty, and why timing is the honest issue

  • Honesty failures usually begin as scheduling failures
  • Four to six sessions before each internal deadline removes the pressure
  • A tutor teaches, questions and gives feedback; the student writes every word
  • Past papers and mark schemes are referenced at source, never redistributed
  • Any offer to supply a completed IA, EE or TOK essay should end the conversation

Most academic-honesty failures in the Diploma are timing failures first. A student who starts an Extended Essay eight weeks before submission, or a science investigation three weeks before the deadline, is under a pressure that makes buying work look like a solution. At least one provider ranking for UAE IB searches sells completed Internal Assessments, and the people who buy them are rarely students who planned well and then decided to cheat. They are students who ran out of time.

Which makes the calendar a safeguarding issue as much as a performance one. A family that gets the internal deadlines on one page in DP1 term one, and schedules four to six sessions before each of them, is also removing the circumstances in which that temptation appears. That is a better argument for early planning than any marks-based one.

The boundary itself is clear and worth stating in full. A tutor may interrogate a research question until it is answerable, check that a method will generate data capable of supporting the planned analysis, explain what each criterion credits using the published descriptors, teach citation and referencing, and read a draft the student wrote and name where it fails a criterion. A tutor may not write, rewrite, restructure by rewriting, or edit prose into a standard the student cannot produce, and may not supply a completed assessment of any kind.

The same applies to examination material. IB, Cambridge and Pearson syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables are copyright. We reference and link them at their official sources and work from them on screen in session; we do not reproduce or distribute them, and a tutor offering a folder of scanned mark schemes is creating a copyright problem and, for unreleased material, something more serious.

Equivalency, university timing and the regulator footnotes

  • Five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3
  • Arabic and Islamic education sit outside that count of five
  • No IB points figure published, because none has been sourced from the Ministry
  • Tutoring is not a requirement for equivalency or admission
  • No regulator or awarding-body approval claimed, no UAE office, no fine amounts

There is a second calendar running alongside the academic one, and it is the documentary one. Families planning on a UAE university need Ministry of Education equivalency, and the requirements have subject-count rules that are easier to satisfy if read in DP1 than discovered in DP2. Equivalency is the Ministry's recognition of a foreign secondary certificate and is required for admission to UAE institutions and some employment routes.

The published British-track rules are specific: one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade, plus five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education not included among those five. For the American track, English proficiency requires IELTS 5, TOEFL iBT 61, or 450 in the SAT reading and writing section, and mathematics requires at least 450 in SAT Math before applying. For the IB, no points threshold appears on this page: the sourced material states none and no figure has been read on moe.gov.ae, so publishing one would be guesswork with a number attached.

Two boundaries. IB Gram does not perform, submit or guarantee equivalency; it is a Ministry process and you deal with the Ministry or the emirate's attestation authority directly. And tutoring is not a requirement for equivalency, university admission or school progression — any implication otherwise is manufactured urgency.

The regulator footnotes that belong on every page here. Dubai's private schools are overseen by KHDA, described on u.ae as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate, with Abu Dhabi and Al Ain under ADEK, Sharjah under SPEA, Ras Al Khaimah under its Department of Knowledge, and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah under the federal Ministry of Education. Private tutoring is regulated: the MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students; individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published so no amount appears here. IB Gram holds no regulator or awarding-body approval, no KHDA Educational Services Permit and no UAE office.

Starting at whichever term you are actually in

  • Say which term, which subjects and levels, and what the school's dates are
  • Free diagnostic lesson, then a written note on what is still movable
  • One to three working days to match a mainstream Diploma subject
  • Tutor location disclosed before booking when no UAE specialist is free
  • Evening slots fill first across this corridor; term-one booking gets the choice

The first message should say which term the student is in, which subjects and levels, and what the school's internal calendar looks like. Send a marked piece of work if there is one. A specialist runs a free diagnostic lesson and sends a written note within a working day setting out what is still movable from where you are, with a session estimate against each item. Nothing is charged before you read it.

What that note says depends entirely on the term. At DP1 term one it will usually be about habits and subject fit, and it will be short, because that is the cheapest point on the curve and the honest answer is often one weekly slot in one subject. At DP2 term six it will be explicit about what has closed and what has not, and it will not pretend that an already-submitted internal assessment can be improved. A provider that gives the same answer at both points is not reading the calendar.

Availability is good for mainstream Diploma subjects at UAE evening slots — Mathematics AA and AI, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics, English A, Business Management, History — with a match normally inside one to three working days. Narrow courses are thinner: a minority Group 2 language at Higher Level, a specific Computer Science option, a Career-related Programme reflective project. Where no UAE-resident specialist is free, the match comes from our India-based IB faculty teaching on Gulf Standard Time, and we say so before the booking.

One scheduling note specific to this community. Diploma slots from Motor City start around 18:00 because of the commute, and the 18:00 and 19:00 slots fill first across the whole corridor. A family booking in DP1 term one gets a choice of times; a family booking in term six takes what is left, which in a compressed window is a real cost rather than an inconvenience.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Motor City

Students joining from Motor City study alongside families across the Dubailand corridor. The notes focus on commute and term rhythm, because in a calendar-led plan the realistic session time decides how many sessions actually fit into a term.

Motor City

GEMS Metropole School sits inside the community on a British curriculum, so Diploma students commute out. Realistic session starts are from about 18:00, which still allows two sessions a week across a term.

Dubai Sports City

Victory Heights Primary School and Bradenton Preparatory Academy are inside the development and primary-weighted, so Diploma enquiries from here are few and usually concern core components.

Arabian Ranches

JESS Arabian Ranches runs the Diploma, making this the nearest substantial cohort to Motor City and the community where internal assessment deadlines are discussed earliest.

Arabian Ranches 2

Newer villa phases with a younger profile, so MYP and IGCSE requests outnumber Diploma ones and the calendar questions are about the Personal Project rather than the session.

Arabian Ranches 3

The most recent phase, still filling. Longer school runs push realistic starts towards 18:30 in term time, which makes recorded sessions more valuable here.

Dubai Hills Estate

GEMS Wellington Academy Al Khail and Kings' School Dubai draw heavily from here, with students splitting between A Levels and the Diploma at sixteen.

DAMAC Hills

No Diploma school within the community, so every student commutes and the 19:00 slot is the busiest from this postcode across the whole academic year.

Remraam and Mudon

Close to South View School and the Dubailand belt, with a younger age profile. Enquiries concentrate on the MYP to Diploma step and on IGCSE science routes.

Long school runs and a young population. Diploma families here almost always want the later slots, and term-one booking matters more because those slots fill first.

The Sustainable City

Fairgreen International School runs the full IB continuum, so students arrive into the Diploma from MYP and need the fluency work scheduled before DP1 rather than during it.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Get the internal calendar on one page

Ask the Diploma coordinator in writing for every internal deadline across all six subjects plus the core: method approvals, draft dates, submissions, mocks. Almost no family does this and it is the cheapest useful thing available, because it turns two years of vague pressure into a list of dates.

  2. 02

Say which term you are in

The right purchase at DP1 term one is a weekly foundation slot. At DP1 term two it is Extended Essay question work. At DP2 term six it is technique and timed papers. Naming the term is what stops a family buying the final-term product in the first term, or the reverse.

  3. 03

    Free diagnostic lesson

A full session at no charge spent on the student's own work. The output is a written note on what is still movable from where you are, with a session estimate against each item, which at term six includes an honest list of what has already closed.

  4. 04

Place blocks before deadlines, not after

Each internal assessment, the Extended Essay and the TOK essay gets four to six sessions scheduled before its school deadline. Placed after, the work is review with nothing to change. Placed before, the research question, the method and the criteria can all still be influenced.

  5. 05

Reschedule around the UAE year deliberately

Front-load timed paper practice if Ramadan falls in the term before the session, move sessions to post-Iftar slots between 20:30 and 22:00, and use the long summer break rather than treating it as time off. Every session is recorded, so a rescheduled week loses nothing.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The calendar treated as the product

We ask which of the six terms you are in before discussing subjects, because the right purchase differs completely between term one and term six and buying the wrong one is the most common waste in Diploma tutoring.

Internal deadlines separated from the IB's

Nearly every date a Diploma student meets is set by their school, well before the IB's windows. We tell you to get that calendar in writing in DP1 term one, because it is the information that makes planning possible at all.

Ramadan planned for, not around

Shortened school days and post-Iftar evenings change what work fits, and the period often falls just before the session. Short recall and review sessions between 20:30 and 22:00 work well; full timed papers belong either side of it, which means front-loading them.

Priced by term so the real decision is visible

The decision is not AED 250 against AED 300 an hour; it is which terms to buy. A fixed budget spread across term one, the internal assessment blocks and the final term beats the same money spent entirely in the final term.

Honest about what has closed

At term six a submitted internal assessment cannot be improved and an approved Extended Essay question cannot be rewritten. The written note says so rather than selling hours against work that is already finished.

Scheduling built for a Motor City commute

Diploma students here travel out of the community, so sessions start around 18:00 with slots to 21:00 and 45-minute lengths available. Two sessions a week across a full term is routine online and difficult with a visiting tutor's two-hour minimum.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Motor City: your questions answered

Does an IB home tutor actually visit houses in Motor City?+

Independent tutors and agencies in Dubai do, priced at AED 180-350 an hour on Bestimate's 2026 rate table and up to about AED 500 for independent home tutors with travel included. IB Gram does not, anywhere in the UAE — home visits are an India-only service for us. For a Motor City Diploma family the online format also fits the calendar better: sessions from 18:00 once the commute home is done, 45-minute lengths, slots to 21:00, post-Iftar timing in Ramadan, and a recording of every session for later revision.

When in the two Diploma years should we start tutoring?+

DP1 term one is the cheapest and most effective point, and almost nobody uses it. Habits that decide a grade — non-calculator fluency, command-term discipline, writing method — install in weeks at that stage and take months later. Term one is also when subject and level mismatches can still be corrected, which no amount of later tutoring can do. Families who start in DP2 term six are buying the one product that cannot touch anything internally assessed, because all of it has already been submitted by then.

Which Diploma deadlines does our school set rather than the IB?+

Nearly all the ones your child actually meets. The school sets Extended Essay subject and supervisor allocation, research question approval, reflection sessions, drafts and final submission; internal assessment method approval and submission for every subject; the TOK exhibition and essay dates; mock windows; and the cut-off for Higher Level content being taught. The IB sets the external session and the submission windows the school works back from. Ask the Diploma coordinator for the internal calendar in writing during the first fortnight of DP1 and put it on one page.

How should a Dubai revision plan handle Ramadan?+

By front-loading and changing the kind of work rather than trying to carry on unchanged. School hours shorten, afternoon energy drops, and the productive window moves to after Iftar, which matters because the period often falls in the term before summer examinations. Short post-Iftar sessions between 20:30 and 22:00 suit recall testing, review and marking a paper sat earlier in the day. Full-length timed papers and new content belong either side of the period, which means scheduling them earlier than a plan written in September would have assumed.

Can anything about an Internal Assessment be changed in the final term?+

Not once it is submitted, and that is the single most important thing for a family arriving late to understand. The internally assessed component is worth 20-25% of every Diploma subject grade, it is marked in school and moderated by the IB, and it closes on the school's submission date. After that the only movable things are examination technique, timing, question selection and residual content. Which is why the written note after a diagnostic lesson at term six lists what has closed as well as what has not, rather than selling hours against finished work.

Is it worth paying for Extended Essay help if the question is already approved?+

Less than before it was approved, which is exactly the point. A question that cannot be answered within the 4,000-word limit produces an essay that cannot score well however it is written, and the moment to fix that is before the school signs it off in DP1. After approval, useful support is still available: reflection sessions, structure, argument, referencing and criterion-referenced feedback on the student's own drafts. But the single highest-value intervention has passed, which is why the Extended Essay block belongs in DP1 term two rather than DP2.

Why does this page give no IB exam dates for the May session?+

Because none could be verified at source. The IB's own site returns an error to automated checking, so no IB session or results date in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself, and a family reorganises travel and a whole revision plan around an examination date. UAE candidates sit the May session; for the window, the results date and the candidate release time, ask your school's Diploma coordinator or read ibo.org directly. The dates that constrain a plan first are internal in any case, and your school holds all of those.

How much does a full two years of Diploma support cost in Dubai?+

It depends far more on which terms you buy than on the hourly rate. At published bands, a twelve-week weekly slot is roughly AED 1,800-3,600 at the AED 150-300 qualified band or AED 2,400-5,400 at the AED 200-450 specialist band, and a four-session block is AED 600-1,800. A sensible pattern is term one weekly, a block before each internal deadline, and the final term weekly — considerably less than a constant slot across six terms. Those are other providers' published figures read in October 2026; we quote after the free diagnostic lesson.

What time can a Diploma session realistically start from Motor City?+

About 18:00 for most families. GEMS Metropole School inside the community runs a British curriculum through IGCSE, so Diploma students commute out across the Dubailand corridor and are generally home between 16:30 and 17:30. Online sessions run to 21:00 on Gulf Standard Time, so a second weekly session can sit at 20:00 after a fixture without displacing it, and either can be 45 minutes rather than an hour. A visiting tutor's two-hour minimum and roughly 18:30 latest start make that pattern hard to arrange here.

Can we use the long summer break rather than term time?+

Yes, and it is the most underused window in the whole Diploma. With no school commitments competing for the evening, the summer is the right place for non-calculator fluency work, for reading around an Extended Essay topic before the question is fixed, and for the procedural groundwork a student arriving from MYP needs before DP1 begins. Ten sessions in July and August routinely achieve more than twenty in October, because the student is not simultaneously trying to keep up with new content and a full school timetable.

Which schools do Motor City Diploma students usually attend?+

Not GEMS Metropole School, which is inside the community but runs a British curriculum through IGCSE. Diploma students from Motor City generally travel to JESS Arabian Ranches, Nord Anglia International School Dubai, Fairgreen International School in The Sustainable City, Greenfield International School in Dubai Investments Park, North London Collegiate School Dubai or GEMS Wellington Academy Al Khail. Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, three on the IB curriculum, creating 16,846 places. We name schools as market context and hold no relationship with any of them.

How quickly can a tutor start if we are already in the final term?+

One to three working days for a mainstream Diploma subject, though the binding constraint at that notice is usually the slot rather than the specialist. The 18:00 and 19:00 slots across this corridor fill first, so a family booking in the final term takes what is available, which in a compressed window is a genuine cost. Narrow courses may have no free UAE-resident specialist at all, in which case the tutor comes from our India-based IB faculty teaching on Gulf Standard Time, and we tell you before you book.

Do we need to worry about Ministry equivalency during DP1?+

Read it in DP1 rather than acting on it then. Equivalency is the Ministry of Education's recognition of a foreign secondary certificate, required for UAE university admission and some employment routes, and the British-track rules are specific: five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3 with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count, plus one A-Level at E or two AS-Levels at the same grade. No IB points figure appears here because none has been read on moe.gov.ae. Tutoring is not a requirement for equivalency.

What stops a student buying coursework when they run out of time?+

Mostly having not run out of time, which is a planning outcome rather than a character one. At least one provider ranking for UAE IB searches sells completed Internal Assessments, and submitting purchased work is academic misconduct with the consequence falling on the student. The families who avoid that situation are generally the ones who got the internal calendar in writing in DP1 and placed four to six sessions before each deadline. That is a stronger argument for early planning than any point about marks.
