IB Tutor near me in Motor City

Searching for an IB tutor near me in Motor City sorts providers by distance. This page sorts them by the things a parent can actually verify instead: which provider model you are dealing with, whether the tutor holds a MoHRE private tuition permit, which subject group the help is for, and whether the student is at risk of a Diploma failing condition rather than just a low grade. Teaching is one-to-one over live video; IB Gram makes no UAE home visits.

IB & IGCSE in Motor City

Three things proximity genuinely helps with, and five it does not

A proximity search is not irrational. There are real things that being nearby helps with, and they are worth naming before the argument against distance is made. A tutor who lives in Motor City can sit in the room with a nine-year-old who cannot yet manage a screen. They can be there within an hour in an emergency. And they know the local schools socially, which occasionally produces useful context about a particular teacher or a particular cohort.

What proximity does not help with is longer. It does not tell you whether the tutor has taught Economics at Higher Level, or marked a historical investigation, or seen a Paper 3 mark scheme. It does not tell you whether they hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit that UAE law requires. It does not tell you which provider model you are buying from, which determines who employs the tutor, who replaces them if the match fails, and who you complain to. It does not tell you whether your child is simply short of a grade or at risk of a condition that stops the Diploma being awarded at all. And it does not tell you what the hourly figure actually includes.

Those five are all checkable, and this page is organised around checking them. It sets out the six Diploma subject groups so a request can be made precisely. It explains the Diploma award conditions, because a student with a grade 1 in one subject has a different problem from a student eight points short. It compares provider models on features a parent can verify. It quotes the permit position from MoHRE's own published rules. And it gives the Dubai rate bands with the provider and the month attached to each.

Motor City's own position in this market is worth stating. GEMS Metropole School sits inside the community and runs a British curriculum through IGCSE, so there is no Diploma cohort here at all. Diploma students commute out across the Dubailand corridor, which means the local pool of people who have taught the Diploma is not thin — it is close to nonexistent. A proximity search in this postcode is sorting a list that barely contains the thing being searched for, which is why the rest of this page spends its time on filters that do have something to sort.

Teaching for UAE families is delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with a shared whiteboard and a recording the student keeps. IB Gram does not operate home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service exists only in India. We say so at the top because the alternative is letting a family book and then discover it, which is the most common complaint in this market.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Two IB programmes generate most Motor City enquiries, and a third occasionally. The subject-group structure described on this page belongs to the Diploma specifically.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, one from each of six groups, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, each graded 1-7. Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service complete the core, with up to three bonus points from the TOK and EE combination. The full Diploma is awarded only when a set of published conditions is met, not simply when a point total is reached.

Motor City Diploma students attend schools across the Dubailand corridor — JESS Arabian Ranches, Nord Anglia International School Dubai, Fairgreen International School, Greenfield International School — rather than inside the community. UAE candidates sit the May session; no IB session or results dates appear on this page because ibo.org blocks automated verification and your Diploma coordinator holds the real calendar.

DP CoursesAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme course candidate

A student may take individual Diploma courses and receive certificates for them without pursuing the full Diploma. The subjects are identical and graded the same way; what is absent is the core requirement and the award conditions. For some students this is a deliberate and sensible choice rather than a fallback, particularly where a university route asks for named subjects rather than a Diploma total.

Dubai schools handle course candidacy differently and some will not offer it, so the policy question belongs with your Diploma coordinator early in DP1. For a family in Motor City weighing it, the practical point is that the tutoring need is identical — the same papers, the same internal assessments — but the core pressure disappears.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups assessed against four criteria each, scored from 0 to 8 and converted to a 1-7 grade, with the Personal Project in the final year. Assessment is internal and continuous, so there is no external session and no award conditions of the Diploma kind. The subject-group structure here is broader than the Diploma's and students take all eight.

MYP families near Motor City attend the continuum schools in the corridor, principally Fairgreen International School and Greenfield International School. The step from eight MYP subject groups to six Diploma subjects is itself a decision, and it is made at the same point the Higher Level choices are made.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Diploma subjects requested from the Motor City area, organised by the group each sits in. Naming the group is what makes a tutoring request precise, because the assessment shape is similar within a group and very different across groups.

Group 1: English A Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 is guided analysis of unseen non-literary text; Paper 2 a comparative essay on studied works; the Individual Oral links a global issue to one literary and one non-literary extract. Higher Level adds a 1,200-1,500 word essay. Extract choice decides the Individual Oral before a word is spoken.

Group 2: Spanish or French B

HL and SL

Paper 1 is a written task in a specified text type, so register and format carry marks independently of grammatical accuracy. Paper 2 covers listening and reading. The individual oral uses a visual stimulus at Standard Level and a literary extract at Higher Level.

Group 3: Economics

HL and SL

Diagrams score separately from the prose around them: axes labelled, curves shifted, new equilibrium marked. Three commentaries of 800 words each, built on real published articles, are internally assessed. Higher Level adds a quantitative paper where arithmetic slips cost more than theory gaps.

Group 3: History

HL and SL

Paper 1 is source-based and rewards provenance analysis rather than summary; Paper 2 is comparative essay work. Higher Level adds three essays in 150 minutes on a regional option. The historical investigation is internally assessed with a school deadline in DP1 or early DP2.

Group 3: Psychology

HL and SL

Studies must be named, dated and evaluated rather than described. The internal assessment is a replication of a simple experiment with full statistical treatment, and students routinely propose a study they cannot ethically or practically replicate in a school setting.

Group 4: Biology

HL and SL

Paper 1 at 36% covers multiple choice and data analysis, Paper 2 at 44% is extended response, and the scientific investigation is 20%. Content volume is the difficulty, and answer length matched to the mark allocation is the cheapest habit to fix.

Group 5: Mathematics

AA and AI, HL and SL

Analysis and Approaches is the algebraic route with Paper 1 sat without a calculator; Applications and Interpretation is calculator-permitted and statistics-led. The Exploration is 20% at both levels on both courses. Several degree routes specify Analysis and Approaches.

Group 6: Visual Arts

HL and SL

Three assessed components: the comparative study, the process portfolio and the exhibition. All three are internally generated work with school deadlines spread across two years, and the process portfolio is where students who make strong final pieces most often lose marks.

Group 6 alternative: a second Group 3 or 4 subject

HL and SL

Students may replace the Group 6 arts subject with a second subject from Groups 1 to 4. This is the most common choice among students heading to science or economics degrees, and it changes the internal assessment load substantially because arts components are replaced by a second investigation.

The core: TOK, the Extended Essay and CAS

Core

The TOK essay is 1,600 words on a prescribed title and the exhibition is three objects with a 950-word commentary. The Extended Essay has a 4,000-word limit. CAS is not graded but must be completed for the Diploma to be awarded, which makes it an award condition rather than an optional extra.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, all one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. Which one fits depends on whether the problem is a grade, an award condition or a core component.

Single-subject weekly slot

A fixed weekly hour with the same tutor in one named course at one named level. This is the format for a student who is simply short of a grade in a subject they are otherwise coping with, and it works because the tutor sees marked classwork week by week and can trace a weakness to its source rather than guessing.

  • One named course at one named level, not a subject area
  • Work set against the school's own scheme of work
  • Session recordings retained for revision
  • Pauses available across internal examination weeks

Award-condition intervention

For a student at risk of a condition that prevents the Diploma being awarded rather than merely a low total: a grade 1 anywhere, too many grade 2s or 3s, a Higher Level or Standard Level points floor not met, or an E in TOK or the Extended Essay. The work is triaged by which condition is live, because that changes what has to improve.

  • Starts from the full grade profile, not one subject
  • Triaged by which condition is actually at risk
  • Core components included where TOK or the EE is the problem
  • Written assessment of what is reachable in the time left

Core component supervision

Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay or a subject internal assessment, scheduled backwards from the school's internal deadline and worked against the published criteria. The tutor questions, explains and gives feedback on drafts. The student writes everything that is submitted, without exception.

  • Research question or prescribed title unpacked before drafting
  • Word limits checked early rather than at the end
  • Criterion-referenced feedback using official descriptors
  • Four to six sessions placed before the deadline

01

The six subject groups, and why naming the group makes a better request

A Diploma student takes six subjects, one from each of six groups, with an option to replace the Group 6 arts subject with a second subject from Groups 1 to 4. Three are at Higher Level and three at Standard Level. The structure matters for a tutoring request because the assessment shape is broadly consistent within a group and very different between groups, so 'my child needs help with their essay subject' is a much weaker request than 'my child needs help with a Group 3 internal assessment'.

Within Group 3, individuals and societies, the pattern is source handling, argument construction and an internally assessed investigation. Within Group 4, the sciences, it is a 36% paper of multiple choice and data analysis, a 44% extended-response paper, and a 20% investigation. Group 5 mathematics has its Exploration at 20% and, at Higher Level, a third paper. Group 6 arts is almost entirely internally generated work with school deadlines spread across two years.

The practical consequence is that the right tutor is often identified by component rather than by subject. A student losing marks on source provenance in History and a student losing marks on source provenance in a Group 3 option are being assessed on the same skill, and a tutor who has taught either can usually help with the other. Conversely, a tutor strong on Group 4 investigations may be no use at all on a Group 6 process portfolio even though both are internally assessed.

This is also where the Group 6 substitution decision belongs. Replacing the arts subject with a second science or a second Group 3 subject is the common choice for students heading to science, medicine or economics degrees, and it changes the internal assessment load materially: an arts process portfolio and exhibition are replaced by a second investigation with its own method approval and submission dates. Families weigh that decision on content and almost never on workload, which is where it actually bites.

Points are not the only thing that can go wrong

Most families think about the Diploma as a running total out of 45 with 24 as the pass mark. That is half the picture. The full Diploma is awarded only when a set of published conditions is satisfied alongside the total, and a student can reach 26 points and still not be awarded the Diploma. Understanding which condition is at risk changes the tutoring decision completely, because the required improvement may be in a subject the family was not worried about.

The conditions cover the shape of the grade profile as well as its sum. A grade 1 in any subject is a failing condition on its own. There are limits on how many grade 2s and how many grade 3s a profile may contain. There are separate points floors for the Higher Level subjects taken together and the Standard Level subjects taken together, so a student who is strong at Standard Level and weak at Higher Level can hit 24 in total and still fall short. An E grade in either Theory of Knowledge or the Extended Essay is a failing condition. And Creativity, Activity, Service has to be completed — it is not graded, but it is required.

What that means practically is that the most urgent subject is not always the lowest one. A student at 25 points with a grade 2 in a Standard Level subject may need that single grade moved to 3 far more than they need two points anywhere else. A student with a strong total and an E in TOK has a core problem, not a subject problem, and no amount of chemistry tutoring addresses it. Triage has to start from the whole profile.

The conditions are published by the IB and are stable, but they are also exactly the kind of thing worth confirming with your Diploma coordinator for your child's session rather than taking from a tutoring page. Ask for the award requirements in writing and read them against the latest predicted grades. That single exercise, done in DP2 term four, reorders most families' spending priorities.

Which provider model are you actually buying from?

Every tutoring provider in this market compares itself favourably with an unnamed alternative. A more useful exercise is to identify which of six models you are dealing with, because the model determines who employs the tutor, who replaces them if the match fails, whether you ever speak to the person teaching before paying, and who is accountable when something goes wrong.

A specialist agency recruits and allocates tutors, usually at the higher end of the rate range, and typically holds the relationship rather than letting you choose. An international marketplace lists independent tutors and takes a commission; you choose, but the platform's responsibility ends at introduction. A freelance or independent tutor is a direct relationship with no intermediary, which is simple and cheap and leaves you with no replacement if it fails. A tuition centre sells group classes from premises, which in Dubai requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit. School-run support is free and delivered by the student's own teachers, subject to the ethics rules on teachers tutoring their own pupils. An online platform like IB Gram matches a tutor and delivers over video.

The questions that separate them are all answerable in one exchange. Who employs the tutor. Can I meet them before paying. What happens if the match is wrong. Is the rate per hour or per lesson, and does it include VAT. Is there a replacement policy in writing. Does the tutor hold a MoHRE private tuition work permit. Does the provider have UAE premises, and if so, does it hold the permit those require. Any provider unwilling to answer those in writing has told you something.

On our own side of that table, plainly: IB Gram matches one tutor to one student and delivers over live video on Gulf Standard Time. There is a free diagnostic lesson before any payment, so you see the tutor teach first. There are no UAE premises, no examination-centre status and no regulator approval of any kind. Home visits are not offered anywhere in the UAE. Where no UAE-resident specialist is free for a narrow course, the match comes from our India-based IB faculty and we say so before booking.

Is the tutor legally permitted to teach in the UAE?

This is the question almost nobody in this market answers, and it has a precise published answer. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 Regarding the Introduction of Private Tuition Work Permits. It is granted free of charge for two years. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws.

The eligible categories are published and broader than most parents assume: teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. The application route is MoHRE's own service, 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing', which lists no fees and a two-working-day completion time and is applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system.

Two things follow that a parent can act on. First, because the permit is free and takes two working days, there is no legitimate reason for a tutor working in the UAE not to hold one, and asking to see it is a reasonable request rather than an awkward one. Second, no fine amount should be quoted to you by anyone. Khaleej Times reported that the ministry did not specify the fine amounts or detail the penalties, and figures circulating as specific sums could not be verified, so a provider quoting one is repeating something unsourced.

A separate point applies to anyone operating with premises. A tutoring operation with staff and premises in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute: initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least 30 days before expiry. That is a different authorisation from the individual permit and 'KHDA approved tutors' is not a thing it creates. There is also an ethics dimension in Abu Dhabi, where ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, with the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also barring serving students affiliated with their own school. Treat that as press-reported and verify it against the current ADEK policy document before relying on the exact wording.

What a parent can actually verify about a rate

Three of six researched competitors in this market publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars, a currency UAE families do not transact in. So the first verifiable thing about a rate is whether it exists in AED and whether the provider will put it in writing before a lesson. That alone eliminates a surprising proportion of the market.

The second is the basis. Is the figure per hour or per lesson, and how long is a lesson. Does it include VAT or not — and note that this page makes no claim about the UAE VAT treatment of tuition fees in general, because that requires a Federal Tax Authority citation; the only honest statement a provider can make is whether its own quoted figure is inclusive. Does a home visit carry a travel supplement, and is there a minimum booking length. Is there a cancellation window. Is the first lesson charged.

The third is the market context, which is published and checkable. Read in October 2026: Tutopiya advertises online tuition from AED 33-52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45-65; Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB from AED 200; Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table puts qualified online subject tutors at AED 150-300, in-home one-to-one at AED 180-350 and IB or IGCSE specialists at AED 200-450 or above, with independent home tutors reaching AED 500 including travel; TutorChase quotes AED 270; BartyED sits at AED 650. Monthly estimates for one weekly hour run roughly AED 240-600, AED 600-1,200 and AED 1,000-2,000 or above across the tiers, with packages in this market around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions.

IB Gram publishes no fixed hourly rate on this page because level, component and urgency move it, and a number invented for a landing page would misquote most cases. What is verifiable on our side is the sequence: a free diagnostic lesson first, then a written diagnosis with a session estimate, then a quote, then a decision. Nothing is charged before you have read the diagnosis.

What distance costs a Motor City family in practice

  • No Diploma school sits inside Motor City or the adjacent Sports City
  • Students are home between 16:30 and 17:30 after the commute
  • A visiting tutor's workable window here is roughly thirty minutes wide
  • Online sessions run 18:00 to 21:00 Gulf Standard Time, 45 or 60 minutes
  • No UAE office, centre or branch, and no home visits anywhere in the UAE

Having argued that proximity is the weakest filter, it is worth being concrete about the cost of using it here. Motor City has no Diploma school inside it. The nearest substantial Diploma cohort is at JESS Arabian Ranches, and the rest of the corridor's Diploma provision sits at Nord Anglia International School Dubai, Fairgreen International School, Greenfield International School and North London Collegiate School Dubai. A tutor resident in Motor City who has taught the Diploma is therefore a coincidence rather than a category.

The timing arithmetic compounds it. Diploma students from this postcode commute out and are generally home between 16:30 and 17:30, which makes about 18:00 the earliest realistic session start. A visiting tutor spends forty to sixty minutes each way in term traffic and needs a two-hour minimum booking to justify it, with a latest workable start of roughly 18:30. The window in which both the student and a visiting specialist are available is therefore about thirty minutes wide, on weekdays, for a pool that barely exists.

Online, that window opens to 18:00 through 21:00 on Gulf Standard Time, sessions can be 45 or 60 minutes, and two sessions a week on different evenings is routine. The tutor is selected for having taught the named course at the named level, which for a Group 2 language at Higher Level or a Group 6 arts component is the difference between a match and none.

Home visits remain the right choice for some students, and the honest cases are worth repeating: a younger child who cannot self-manage a screen, or a student whose written method needs correcting as it is produced. IB Gram does not offer them anywhere in the UAE, so the comparison here is informational. What we will not do is claim a local presence we do not have: there is no UAE office, no centre and no branch.

07

Starting, with the honesty boundaries stated

  • Course, level, weak component and the full grade profile where relevant
  • Free diagnostic lesson, then a written diagnosis before any charge
  • One to three working days for Groups 1 to 5; some Group 2 and 6 courses are thinner
  • A tutor teaches and gives feedback; the student writes every submitted word
  • No regulator or awarding-body approval, no examination-centre status, no UAE office

The first message should name the course and the level, say which component is weak, and include the full predicted grade profile if the concern is the Diploma award rather than a single subject. Send a marked piece of work. A specialist runs a free diagnostic lesson and sends a written note within a working day naming the error patterns, or naming which award condition is at risk and what would have to move. Nothing is charged before you read it.

Availability is good across Groups 1 to 5 at both levels for UAE evening slots, with a match normally inside one to three working days. Group 2 languages beyond Spanish and French, Group 6 arts components and the Career-related Programme reflective project are thinner, and some cannot be filled from UAE-resident tutors at all. Where that is the case the match comes from our India-based IB faculty teaching on Gulf Standard Time, and we say so before the booking rather than after it.

On academic honesty, which this page has a particular duty to state because at least one provider ranking for UAE IB searches sells completed Internal Assessments. Submitting purchased work is academic misconduct under IB rules and the consequence falls on the student, up to loss of the Diploma. A tutor may interrogate a research question, check a method's feasibility, explain what each criterion credits using the published descriptors, teach citation and referencing, and give feedback on a draft the student wrote. A tutor may not write, rewrite, restructure by rewriting, or edit prose into a standard the student cannot produce, and may not supply completed coursework of any kind.

And the claims we do not make, for completeness. IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licensing or partnership from the IB, Cambridge, Pearson, KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education or MoHRE. It holds no KHDA Educational Services Permit, is not an examination centre and cannot enter a candidate. It does not describe tutors as current IB examiners, because that status cannot be evidenced here and would not be used to imply access to marking or paper content if it could. IB, Cambridge and Pearson syllabus documents, past papers and mark schemes are referenced and linked at source, never reproduced or distributed.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Motor City

Diploma students joining from Motor City study alongside families across the Dubailand corridor. These notes record where each community's Diploma students actually attend school, which is the information a proximity search is missing.

Motor City

GEMS Metropole School is inside the community but runs a British curriculum through IGCSE, so there is no local Diploma cohort at all and every Diploma student commutes out.

Dubai Sports City

Victory Heights Primary School and Bradenton Preparatory Academy sit inside the development and are primary-weighted, so Diploma students here also travel out of the community.

Arabian Ranches

JESS Arabian Ranches runs the Diploma, making this the only community in the immediate corridor with a substantial cohort on its doorstep.

Arabian Ranches 2

Younger villa phases feeding primary and lower secondary provision, so Diploma enquiries are few and usually arrive from families planning ahead rather than reacting.

Arabian Ranches 3

The newest phase and still filling. Diploma students commute the furthest in this cluster, which puts realistic session starts at 18:30 or later.

Dubai Hills Estate

GEMS Wellington Academy Al Khail and Kings' School Dubai draw heavily from here, with students splitting between A Levels and the Diploma at sixteen.

DAMAC Hills

No Diploma provision inside the community. The 19:00 slot is the most requested from this postcode and recordings are used more here than anywhere else in the corridor.

Town Square

Young population, long school runs, and Diploma numbers still small. Enquiries concentrate on the core components rather than on subject teaching.

Mudon and Remraam

Close to South View School and the Dubailand belt. Diploma enquiries are mostly about the step up from IGCSE into internally assessed work.

The Sustainable City

Fairgreen International School runs the full IB continuum here, so its Diploma students arrive from MYP and ask different questions from the IGCSE cohort.

Not 'maths' but 'Applications and Interpretation at Standard Level, losing marks on the statistics questions'. Not 'an essay subject' but 'a Group 3 internal assessment'. The precision costs you one sentence and changes which tutor is matched to you.

  2. 02

Check the whole grade profile, not one subject

If the worry is whether the Diploma will be awarded, send all six predicted grades plus TOK and the Extended Essay. A single grade 2 moved to a 3 can matter more than two points elsewhere, and that is invisible if you only look at the lowest subject.

  3. 03

    Free diagnostic lesson

A full session at no charge, spent on the student's own work, before any payment. This is also how you verify the tutor: you watch them teach your child before committing, which is the opposite of the common market pattern where allocation follows payment.

  4. 04

    Ask the verification questions

Who employs the tutor, where they are based, whether they hold a MoHRE private tuition work permit, whether the rate is per hour or per lesson and what it includes, and what happens if the match is wrong. Ask us and ask anyone else you are considering, and compare the written answers.

  5. 05

Weekly slot reviewed on school marks

Same tutor, same time, 45 or 60 minutes, scheduled from 18:00 to allow for the commute out of Motor City, with slots to 21:00 and post-Iftar timing in Ramadan. Progress is judged on the school's next marked assessment, read against the original written diagnosis.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Sorted by what you can check, not by distance

Provider model, tutor location, permit status, rate basis and replacement policy are all verifiable in one written exchange. Distance is verifiable too, and it is the only one of the five that has no effect on a Diploma grade.

Award conditions triaged before subjects

A student can reach 24 points and still not be awarded the Diploma. Where the concern is the award rather than a grade, we start from the whole profile, because the subject that needs moving is frequently not the lowest one.

The permit position quoted from source

The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is free, lasts two years, and is applied for through MoHRE's own service in two working days. Because it is free and fast, asking to see it is reasonable.

No fine figures and no tax claims

The ministry did not specify fine amounts, so we quote none, and we make no general claim about the VAT treatment of tuition fees because that needs a Federal Tax Authority citation. We will only state whether our own quoted figure is inclusive.

You see the tutor before you pay

A free diagnostic lesson comes before any charge and before any commitment, which makes the match checkable rather than promised. If the fit is wrong after it, you have paid nothing and we change the match.

Honest about a nonexistent local pool

No Diploma school sits inside Motor City or Sports City, so a resident tutor who has taught the Diploma is a coincidence rather than a category. We say that rather than implying a local specialist network that does not exist.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Motor City: your questions answered

Why does a search for an IB tutor near Motor City return so little?+

Because there is no Diploma school inside Motor City or the adjacent Sports City development. GEMS Metropole School runs a British curriculum through IGCSE, and Victory Heights Primary School and Bradenton Preparatory Academy are primary-weighted, so every Diploma student from this postcode commutes out across the Dubailand corridor. A resident tutor who has taught the Diploma is therefore a coincidence rather than a category, and a proximity search is sorting a list that barely contains what you are looking for.

What does being nearby genuinely help with?+

Three things, and they are worth acknowledging. A tutor in the community can sit beside a younger child who cannot yet manage a screen session independently. They can be physically present quickly if something is urgent. And they often know the local schools socially, which occasionally produces useful context about a particular cohort or teacher. What proximity cannot tell you is whether they have taught your child's course at your child's level, whether they hold a MoHRE permit, or what happens if the match fails.

Is 24 points on its own enough for the full Diploma to be awarded?+

Yes, which surprises most families. The full Diploma requires a set of published conditions alongside the total: no grade 1 in any subject, limits on how many grade 2s and grade 3s the profile may contain, separate minimum points totals across the Higher Level and Standard Level subjects, neither Theory of Knowledge nor the Extended Essay graded E, and Creativity, Activity, Service completed. Ask your Diploma coordinator for the award requirements in writing and read them against the latest predicted grades, ideally in DP2 rather than later.

Which subject should we fund if the Diploma itself is at risk?+

Often not the lowest one. If a condition on the grade profile is what threatens the award, moving a single grade 2 to a 3 can decide it while two extra points elsewhere would not. If a Higher Level points floor is the problem, strong Standard Level grades do not substitute for it. If Theory of Knowledge or the Extended Essay is heading for an E, that is a core problem and no amount of subject tutoring addresses it. That is why triage starts from the full profile rather than from one report.

How do I tell what kind of tutoring provider I am dealing with?+

Ask who employs the tutor, whether you can meet them before paying, what happens if the match is wrong, and whether the provider has UAE premises. A specialist agency allocates and holds the relationship. A marketplace introduces independent tutors and stops there. A freelance tutor is a direct arrangement with no replacement if it fails. A tuition centre with premises in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit. An online platform matches and delivers over video. The model determines accountability more than the price does.

Which tutors in the UAE are eligible for a private tuition permit?+

A wider group than most parents expect. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. Because the permit is free and MoHRE lists a two-working-day completion time, there is no legitimate reason for a UAE-based tutor not to hold one.

Is it rude to ask a tutor to show their MoHRE permit?+

No, and the economics make it reasonable. The permit costs nothing and MoHRE's own service page for 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing' lists no fees and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the smart app, website or e-services system. A tutor working legitimately in the UAE has no obstacle to holding one. Treat reluctance as information. Separately, do not accept a fine figure from anyone: the ministry did not specify fine amounts, so any specific sum circulating is unsourced.

What should I ask about a quoted hourly rate?+

Whether it is in AED and in writing; whether it is per hour or per lesson and how long a lesson is; whether it includes VAT; whether a home visit carries a travel supplement and a minimum booking; whether the first lesson is charged; and what the replacement policy is if the match fails. Three of six researched competitors in this market publish no price at all and the two that do quote in US dollars, so a written AED figure with its basis stated already narrows the field considerably.

Should we replace the Group 6 arts subject with a second science?+

Many students heading to science, medicine or economics degrees do, and it is permitted. The point families usually miss is the workload change rather than the content change: an arts process portfolio and exhibition are replaced by a second scientific investigation, with its own method approval date and its own submission deadline, often overlapping the first one. A student taking two Group 4 subjects plus the Extended Essay and the TOK essay in the same period has a crowded DP2 that the timetable does not show.

What time can a Motor City Diploma session start?+

About 18:00 for most families, because Diploma students here commute out of the community and are generally home between 16:30 and 17:30. Online sessions run to 21:00 on Gulf Standard Time, so a second weekly session can sit at 20:00 after a fixture without displacing it, and either can be 45 minutes rather than a full hour. A visiting tutor needing a two-hour minimum and finishing by around 18:30 leaves a workable window of roughly half an hour, which is why the format matters here more than in most postcodes.

Can a tutor help with Theory of Knowledge if it is heading for an E?+

Yes, and it should be treated as urgent rather than as a side issue, because an E in either Theory of Knowledge or the Extended Essay is a failing condition for the Diploma. The TOK essay is 1,600 words on a prescribed title and the exhibition is three objects with a 950-word commentary, so the volume of work is small and the leverage high. A tutor can unpack the title, test the knowledge claims a student proposes and give criterion-referenced feedback on the student's own draft, but cannot write any part of it.

What happens if you cannot find a tutor for my child's course?+

We tell you, before you book. Groups 1 to 5 at both levels have good UAE evening cover and normally match within one to three working days. Group 2 languages beyond Spanish and French, Group 6 arts components and the Career-related Programme reflective project are thinner, and some cannot be filled from UAE-resident tutors at all. In those cases the match comes from our India-based IB faculty teaching on Gulf Standard Time, and the tutor's location is stated before any booking rather than discovered afterwards.

Does IB Gram have an office or centre in Dubai?+

No. There is no UAE office, no centre, no branch and no examination-centre status, and we cannot enter a candidate for any examination. We hold no approval, accreditation, licensing or partnership from the IB, Cambridge, Pearson, KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education or MoHRE, and no KHDA Educational Services Permit — which is the authorisation a Dubai training institute with premises actually requires. Two ranking competitors in this market route UAE parents to non-UAE phone numbers and one shows a Dubai address on an Abu Dhabi page, so this is worth checking of anyone.

Everyone else lists a May exam window. Why will you not?+

Because none could be verified at source. The IB's own site returns an error to automated checking, so no IB session or results date in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself, and an examination date is something a family reorganises travel and a revision plan around. UAE candidates sit the May session; for the window, the results date and the candidate release time, ask your school's Diploma coordinator or read ibo.org directly. The deadlines that constrain a student first are internal anyway, and the school sets all of those.

Check five things, and distance is not one of them

Before paying anyone for IB help in Motor City, get five answers in writing. Which provider model it is and who employs the tutor. Where that tutor is based. Whether they hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which is free and takes two working days, so there is no reason not to. What the AED rate covers, per hour or per lesson, inclusive or not. And what happens if the match is wrong. Then make the request precise: the course, the level, the component, and the whole grade profile if the Diploma award itself is at risk. Take the free diagnostic lesson before committing to anything.
