IGCSE Tutors in the UAE

IGCSE tutors in the UAE have to work inside a system the family did not design: a private school licensed by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA or the federal Ministry of Education, a Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel specification chosen by that school, mandatory Arabic and Islamic Education running alongside it, and an exam entry locked months before the paper. IB Gram matches your child to a subject specialist by syllabus code and tier, and every lesson runs one-to-one online over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in the UAE

The system your child's IGCSE sits inside, before anything about tutoring

An IGCSE in the Emirates is never a free-standing qualification. It sits inside a private school licensed by an emirate authority, teaching a Cambridge or Pearson specification that the school chose, while also delivering Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies that the school must provide whatever curriculum is on the sign outside. The exam entry is made by the school's exams officer to a deadline set months before the paper. The certificate then goes to a federal equivalency process that counts five subjects and deliberately excludes two of the ones your child works hardest at. Tutoring that ignores any of this is just paid homework supervision.

So when a parent searches for IGCSE tutors in the UAE, the useful answer is not a list of names. It is a match made on four facts: the syllabus code the school entered for, the tier your child is sitting, the series the entry is in, and the hours a Gulf school day actually leaves free. A tutor who knows Cambridge Chemistry 0620 Paper 4 is a different tutor from one who knows Pearson 4CH1. A Core-tier Maths student and an Extended-tier Maths student share a subject name and almost nothing else. Get those four facts wrong and the hours are wasted politely.

IB Gram delivers this as online IGCSE tuition. Lessons are one-to-one, over live video, with screen-sharing and a shared whiteboard, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time around the school run and the mandatory-subject periods. Home visits are a service IB Gram offers only in India, not anywhere in the Emirates. That is a deliberate position rather than a limitation: a family in Al Ain or Fujairah gets the Extended-tier Physics specialist who is genuinely free at seven in the evening, instead of whoever happens to live within a twenty-minute drive of the villa.

The regulatory picture matters more here than in most markets, because it decides things a parent would otherwise assume. KHDA oversees the quality of private education in Dubai and publishes inspection reports you can read before you enrol. ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, and its professional-ethics rules bar school staff from paid private tutoring of students at their own school. SPEA in Sharjah and the Department of Knowledge in Ras Al Khaimah approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah sit with the federal Ministry of Education.

What follows is the page we wished existed when we started matching UAE families. It names the two boards and what separates them, explains the Core and Extended decision in terms of the grade ceiling it sets, counts an exam series backwards from the entry deadline, publishes what this market actually charges in AED with the provider who published each figure, sets out the MoE equivalency rule that most tutoring sites get wrong, and states in plain words where the line sits on coursework. Read the part you need and ignore the rest.

At a glance

  • Five separate authorities regulate private schools across the seven emirates, and they do not all do the same job
  • Cambridge IGCSE codes are four digits (0580, 0620, 0625); Pearson International GCSE codes look like 4MA1 and 4CH1
  • MoE equivalency on the British track counts five subjects at no less than E or grade 3, and excludes Arabic and Islamic education from that five
  • Cambridge allocates every exam centre to one of six administrative zones, and the wrong zone timetable is the centre's problem, not Cambridge's
  • Market rates for a qualified subject tutor online run roughly AED 150 to AED 300 an hour; in-home visits run higher because travel sits inside the rate
  • A tutor teaches, reviews and gives feedback; nobody here finishes a piece of coursework on a student's behalf
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Four stages matter to a UAE family on the British track. The two middle ones are the IGCSE itself, and they are not the same qualification under two names: Cambridge International and Pearson Edexcel publish separate specifications, separate papers and separate timetables for subjects that share a title.

LSAges 11-14 · Years 7-9

Lower Secondary, the run-up

The three years before the IGCSE course begins decide which tier a child is offered. Schools use Checkpoint tests, internal assessments and setting decisions in Year 9 to stream Maths and the sciences into Core and Extended groups. The content is not examined externally for a grade that follows the child, so families treat it as low stakes. The tier offer that comes out of it is anything but low stakes.

In Dubai and Abu Dhabi the Year 9 setting decision often lands in the same term as a school move, because a family's visa, housing or employer changes mid-year far more often here than in the UK. A child who arrives in January from a CBSE or American school is set on evidence from a different system. That is the single most common reason a UAE family calls us about a tier that does not match the child.

Cambridge International IGCSE

Syllabuses are identified by a four-digit code: 0580 Mathematics, 0620 Chemistry, 0625 Physics, 0610 Biology, 0500 First Language English, 0455 Economics. Maths and the single sciences are tiered into Core and Extended paper sets. Science candidates sit either a practical test or an alternative-to-practical written paper, depending on what the centre offers. Grading is A* to G on most syllabuses, with a 9 to 1 version used where the centre enters for it.

Most British-curriculum schools in the Emirates enter for Cambridge, which is why so many UAE parents assume IGCSE and Cambridge are the same word. They are not. Ask the exams officer for the four-digit code on this year's entry, in writing, before you buy a single hour of tutoring. Codes change between specification versions, and a tutor drilling the previous version's Paper 4 is drilling the wrong paper with complete confidence.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Specifications are identified differently: 4MA1 Mathematics A, 4PH1 Physics, 4CH1 Chemistry, 4BI1 Biology, 4EA1 English Language A, 4EC1 Economics. Mathematics A is tiered Foundation and Higher rather than Core and Extended, and the single sciences are untiered, with practical skills assessed inside the written papers instead of in a separate practical test. Grading across International GCSE is 9 to 1. Exams run in a May or June series and a November series.

A minority of UAE schools enter for Pearson, and some enter for Pearson in one subject and Cambridge in another, which is how a family ends up with two timetables and two sets of past papers for one child. This is worth ten minutes with the exams officer. The November 2026 final International GCSE timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026, which is a different revision run-in from a June entry.

What follows the IGCSE

A Level, the IB Diploma Programme and BTEC all take IGCSE grades as their entry evidence, and each has subject prerequisites that a Core-tier or Foundation-tier grade can quietly fail to meet. The British track to UAE Ministry of Education equivalency also needs post-16 study: one Advanced Level subject at no less than E, or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade, on top of the five IGCSE subjects.

Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places, so the post-16 options near a family may genuinely be different from the ones that existed when the child started Year 10. Check which sixth form will accept the tier your child is entered for before the final entry deadline, not after results day.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The subjects below are the ones UAE families ask for most, with the syllabus codes attached and a plain note on where marks go missing. Both boards appear, because the paper your child sits depends on the code the school entered, not on the subject's name.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580 / Pearson 4MA1)

Core and Extended · Foundation and Higher

The long structured questions carry method marks that disappear when working is not shown. Bearings, vectors, transformations, compound interest and histograms with unequal class widths account for a disproportionate share of lost marks. Extended and Higher candidates also lose marks to time, not to content, on the final two questions of the long paper.

Additional Mathematics (Cambridge 0606 / Pearson 4PM1)

Single tier

Taken alongside the main Maths course by students heading for A Level Maths or IB HL Analysis and Approaches. Calculus arrives earlier than families expect, and the gap between a strong Extended grade and the opening weeks of this course is where most of the early panic comes from. Worth starting in the summer rather than in October.

Physics (Cambridge 0625 / Pearson 4PH1)

Core and Extended · untiered at Pearson

Unit conversion and prefix errors cost marks on every paper. Gradient and area-under-graph questions are reliably under-practised. The command terms matter: describe, explain, state and calculate each expect a different shape of answer, and a correct physics idea written as the wrong command term scores nothing.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620 / Pearson 4CH1)

Core and Extended · untiered at Pearson

Mole calculations, limiting reagents and percentage yield are where Extended candidates separate from Core. Ionic equations with state symbols, and the organic naming and mechanism questions, are the other two reliable losses. Electrolysis questions reward a drilled method rather than intuition.

Biology (Cambridge 0610 / Pearson 4BI1)

Core and Extended · untiered at Pearson

The content feels learnable and then the data-response questions arrive. Marks go on describing a trend without quoting figures from the graph, on confusing osmosis and diffusion in the practical write-up, and on genetics crosses where the notation is right but the conclusion is not stated.

Coordinated and Combined Sciences (Cambridge 0654 / 0653)

Core and Extended

A double or single award covering all three sciences, chosen by schools to free timetable space for the mandatory UAE subjects. Content per science is reduced, which parents read as easier. The papers still ask Extended-level reasoning, and the reduced teaching time means less practice, not less difficulty.

First Language English (Cambridge 0500 / Pearson 4EA1)

Single tier

The directed-writing task is marked on reading as much as on writing, and candidates who answer in their own voice rather than the required register lose half the available marks. The summary question has a fixed set of content points: finding fourteen of them beats writing beautifully about six.

English as a Second Language (Cambridge 0510 / 0511)

Core and Extended

The note-taking and summary exercises are technique, not vocabulary, and they respond faster to tutoring than any other paper on this list. The speaking component is separately assessed and is the part families forget exists until the week it is scheduled.

Economics (Cambridge 0455 / Pearson 4EC1)

Single tier

The long evaluation question is where the grade is decided, and it needs a judgement with a reason, not a list of advantages and disadvantages. Diagram marks are given for correct axis labels and a labelled shift, which is the cheapest mark on the paper and the most often dropped.

Business Studies (Cambridge 0450 / Pearson 4BS1)

Single tier

Application marks require the answer to use the case study's business, not a generic firm. Students who revise definitions score the knowledge marks and stall in the low grades. Calculation questions on break-even and cash flow are a reliable source of recoverable marks.

Computer Science (Cambridge 0478)

Single tier

Paper 1 theory is learnable; the algorithm and pseudocode questions are not learnable by reading. Trace tables, logic gates and binary arithmetic reward weekly short practice. Students arriving from a different system often have programming fluency and no exam-pseudocode discipline at all.

Arabic (Cambridge 0508 first language / 0544 foreign language)

Two separate courses

An IGCSE Arabic entry is a different thing from the Arabic lesson the school must provide under the mandatory-subject rules, and families routinely confuse the two. The first-language and foreign-language syllabuses are separate courses with separate papers. KHDA requires schools to teach Arabic as a first language in separate classes from non-Arab groups.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Four ways UAE families use us, all of them one-to-one and all of them online over live video. The format does not change; what changes is how the hours are shaped and what the plan counts down to.

Weekly one-to-one against one specification

A fixed slot each week with one tutor, working through the syllabus your child is actually entered for, in paper order. The tutor keeps a running list of topics not yet secure and the paper each one appears on. This is the format that suits Year 10 and the first term of Year 11, when there is still time to teach rather than only to revise.

  • One syllabus code, one tier, one tutor
  • Sixty or ninety minutes, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time
  • Topic tracker shared with the parent, not just the student
  • Past-paper questions chosen by paper number, not by textbook chapter

Exam-series intensive, counted back from entry

A compressed block of hours in the eight to twelve weeks before the papers, built backwards from the series your child is entered in. Full papers under timed conditions, marked against the published assessment structure, with the weakest paper getting the most hours. Suits a Year 11 student whose content is broadly covered but whose marks do not reflect it.

  • Planned from the final entry deadline and the exam window, not from a generic calendar
  • Two or three sessions a week during the run-in
  • Timed full papers, one per paper number in the entry
  • Separate technique work for a practical or alternative-to-practical paper

Tier-change support, Core to Extended

The hardest job on this list. Moving from Core to Extended, or Foundation to Higher, means teaching the extended content from scratch while the class continues at its own pace. It needs more weekly hours than a normal plan, it needs to start before the final entry deadline, and it needs an honest view of whether the move is realistic this year.

  • Diagnostic against the extended topics only, not the whole syllabus
  • A written week-by-week plan with a decision point before final entry
  • Higher weekly hours for a fixed period rather than indefinitely
  • A plain recommendation if the move should wait for a later series

Mandatory UAE subjects stream

Support in Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies, which Dubai private schools must deliver whatever international curriculum they are licensed for. These are assessed by the school rather than by Cambridge or Pearson, so the work is comprehension, vocabulary and confidence in the school's own set material. KHDA states that using different or additional content without prior permission from the MoE is prohibited, so a tutor works from what the school teaches.

  • Separate streams for first-language and additional-language Arabic, as KHDA requires schools to organise them
  • Islamic Education taught in the language the school uses for the child's group
  • Social Studies support aimed at the school's own assessments
  • No parallel syllabus and no substitute material

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in the UAE

01

What a parent is actually asking for when they search for IGCSE tutors in the UAE

The short answer: a tutor who teaches one named specification, to one tier, for one exam series, at a time a Gulf school day leaves free. IGCSE tutors in the UAE are not interchangeable, because the qualification is not one thing. Two children in neighbouring villas can both be sitting Year 11 Chemistry and be sitting different papers, on different timetables, with different grade ceilings. The match is made on the code, not on the subject name.

That is the whole reason this page leads with the system rather than with the service. A UAE family has four moving parts that a UK family mostly does not: an emirate authority that licenses the school and approves what it teaches, a set of mandatory UAE subjects taking timetable space alongside the IGCSE block, a school that may enter for either board or for both, and a federal equivalency process waiting at the end that counts some subjects and not others. Each of those changes what tutoring should be aimed at.

IB Gram delivers one-to-one online IGCSE tuition. Lessons run over live video with screen-sharing and a shared whiteboard, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time. There are no home visits anywhere in the Emirates; that is a service offered only in India. The honest case for the online format is availability rather than convenience. A Year 11 student needing Pearson 4PM1 Further Pure Mathematics in Fujairah has a local specialist pool of roughly nobody, and a national or international one measured in dozens.

The rest of this page is organised the way the decision actually gets made. Which board, then which tier, then what the ministry will count, then what the school has to teach alongside it, then who regulates the school, then the calendar, then the money, then the format, then the permit question, then the line on coursework. If you only read one section, read the tier one, because it is the only decision on the list with a deadline attached and a grade ceiling behind it.

02

Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel: find out which one before you book an hour

Ask the school's exams officer, in writing, for the syllabus or specification code on this year's entry for each subject. Not the subject name, not the textbook, the code. Cambridge International uses four digits: 0580 Mathematics, 0620 Chemistry, 0625 Physics, 0500 First Language English. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE uses a letter-number format: 4MA1 Mathematics A, 4CH1 Chemistry, 4PH1 Physics, 4EA1 English Language A. One email saves a term of drilling the wrong paper.

The differences are not cosmetic. Cambridge tiers Mathematics and the single sciences into Core and Extended paper sets; Pearson tiers Mathematics A into Foundation and Higher and leaves the single sciences untiered. Cambridge science candidates sit either a practical test or an alternative-to-practical written paper, depending on the centre; Pearson assesses practical skills inside the written papers. Cambridge grades most syllabuses A* to G, with a 9 to 1 version used where a centre enters for it; Pearson International GCSE grades 9 to 1 throughout.

Mixed entries are common in the Emirates and are the source of most of the confusion we see. A school may enter for Cambridge in the sciences and Pearson in Maths, or move boards between cohorts, which leaves a family with two timetables, two sets of past papers and two mark-scheme styles for one child. Nothing is wrong when that happens, but a tutor who assumes one board will set the wrong homework with total confidence for weeks.

Verify against the board's own site for the year of entry, never last year's document. Cambridge publishes syllabuses at cambridgeinternational.org and Pearson publishes specifications and timetables at qualifications.pearson.com. We reference those pages and link to them; we do not supply copies of syllabuses, past papers or mark schemes, because those are the boards' copyright material and the boards distribute them through centres.

Core or Extended: the decision that sets the grade ceiling

On Cambridge Maths and the single sciences, the Core papers do not carry the full grade range. The top grades are only available on the Extended paper set. Pearson does the same thing with different words: Mathematics A Foundation tier does not reach the grades Higher tier does. This is the only decision in a UAE IGCSE plan that permanently limits an outcome, and it is made by the school, often provisionally in Year 10 and confirmed at final entry in Year 11.

Parents are rarely told it in those terms. The conversation usually arrives as reassurance about the right level for the child, which is often correct and sometimes just easier. The question worth asking, in writing, is simple: which grade range does this entry allow, and what would my child need to show to be entered on the other tier? A school that answers that clearly is a school worth trusting on the rest.

Then decide against the post-16 plan rather than against this year's comfort. A Level, IB Higher Level and some BTEC routes have subject prerequisites that a Core-tier grade can fail to meet even when the grade itself looks respectable. The British track to MoE equivalency also requires post-16 study, so the tier decision quietly shapes whether that route stays open. Dubai is adding seven private schools for 2026-27, which widens post-16 choice and makes the prerequisite question more worth checking, not less.

If a tier move is the goal, the work is a specific job with a deadline. The extended topics have to be taught from scratch while the class carries on, the final entry deadline is the hard stop, and the honest answer is sometimes that a later series is the better plan. Tutoring that pretends otherwise sells hours. IGCSE Core and Extended decisions are the one place where we would rather talk a family out of a plan than take the booking.

The five-subject rule: MoE equivalency for an IGCSE student

MoE equivalency is the federal process that recognises a foreign school certificate in the UAE, and it is the step families discover late. On the British track the published requirement is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no less than E or grade 3, plus post-16 study: one subject at Advanced Level with a grade no less than E, or two subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade.

The detail that catches families out is the exclusion. Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five required subjects, even though they are compulsory at school and even though a child may have worked hard for a good grade in them. That means a nine-subject IGCSE programme can leave a thinner margin than it looks like it does once two of those subjects come out of the count. Plan the five before Year 11, not after results.

Get this from the ministry rather than from a tutoring website. One competitor page currently ranking for this market states that UAE candidates must take six IGCSE subjects, which does not match the published rule. We are not in a position to perform, guarantee or accelerate equivalency and we do not claim to; what we can do is point you at moe.gov.ae and the emirate attestation channel, and make sure the five subjects your child is relying on are the five being taught properly.

One deliberate gap in the table below: there is no IB points figure in it. No IB equivalency threshold has been read on a ministry source we can cite, so publishing one would be guessing with your child's university application. If a site gives you a number for that, ask where it came from. Equivalency is a regulatory process and tutoring is not a requirement for it; anyone who tells you otherwise is selling urgency.

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies alongside nine IGCSEs

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA's requirements had to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year. The federal position behind that is that private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, but must adhere to the ministry's general regulations. So these subjects are not an optional extra and not a regional nicety.

They cost timetable space, which is the part that touches an IGCSE plan directly. A school fitting mandatory subjects around nine IGCSEs has less contact time per subject than the brochure implies, and that is one reason schools choose Coordinated or Combined Sciences over three separate sciences. KHDA calculates mandatory-subject instructional time on a 40-minute lesson unit, allows schools to vary lesson length provided the weekly total is met, and advises that any mandatory-subject lesson runs at least 25 minutes.

The organisational rules are specific and worth knowing. For Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs, and combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. Standard Arabic is the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language; non-Arab groups are taught in the school's licensed-curriculum language. Schools must also ensure teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic hold the appropriate approval from KHDA.

That shapes what an IGCSE Arabic tutor can usefully do. For mandatory subjects, KHDA states that using any different or additional content without prior permission from the MoE is strictly prohibited, so the work is comprehension, vocabulary and confidence in the school's own material, not a parallel course. An IGCSE Arabic entry under Cambridge 0508 or 0544 is a separate, externally examined qualification, and families regularly confuse the two. KHDA mandatory subjects and an Arabic IGCSE are different projects.

Which authority signs off your child's school, and what you can look up

Five bodies regulate private schools across the seven emirates, and they do not all do the same job. KHDA is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in Dubai. ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in Sharjah, and Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge does the same there. The Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah.

The difference that matters to a parent is the depth of the remit. Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, so curriculum and fee approval sits with the emirate, not only inspection. Dubai's position is published in a different way: KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total.

Use what the regulator publishes before you use what a school says about itself. Inspection reports, licensing status and fee positions are the checkable facts in this market, and they are free. Abu Dhabi adds one more: ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and that rule should be in a parent's head the moment a teacher offers evening lessons.

What none of these bodies does is endorse a tutoring provider. IB Gram holds no approval from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge or Pearson, and claims none. Any provider describing its individual tutors as approved by KHDA is describing something that does not exist in that form: the KHDA permit in this space is an educational services permit issued to training institutes with premises, which is a different thing entirely.

The IGCSE exam series counted backwards from the entry deadline

Nobody in this market publishes a calendar, so here is one. The important date is not the exam. It is the final entry deadline, which fixes the subject list and the tier, and which sits months earlier. Cambridge's published key dates for its March 2027 series make the gap plain: final entries are due 27 November 2026, forecast grades 27 February 2027, the exam period runs 3 February to 4 March 2027, results reach Cambridge Direct on 13 May and certificates follow in late June.

Cambridge runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level exams in a June series and a November series, and also publishes key dates for a March series, which is not offered at every centre. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE exams are available in May or June and in November; the final November 2026 timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 Pearson results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026.

One more Cambridge detail that costs families real marks. Every centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after the wrong zone timetable was used. A parent downloading a timetable from a search result may be downloading another zone's. Get the timetable from your school's exams officer.

Two cautions on dates. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so any date can be revised and the live official timetable is the only version to plan from. And no IB exam-session date appears on this page, because ibo.org blocks automated checking and nothing in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself. UAE schools sit the May session; for an actual date, ask the school's IB coordinator. The IGCSE exam series dates below are from the boards' own published documents, read in October 2026.

What IGCSE support actually costs in this market, in AED

Three of the six best-ranking pages for this search publish no price at all, and the two that do quote US dollars, which is not a currency a UAE family transacts in. So here are IGCSE tutor rates in AED, with the provider who published each figure named and the date they were read. These are market rates, not an IB Gram price list. Our own position is a free trial lesson and then a quote against the plan, because an hourly number without a plan tells a parent nothing useful.

The bands are wide for a reason. At the bottom, providers advertise from AED 45 to AED 65 and from AED 33 to AED 52 an hour, which buys homework supervision rather than paper-by-paper exam technique. In the middle, a qualified subject tutor working online against a named specification sits around AED 150 to AED 300; one agency quotes IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. In-home one-to-one runs higher, roughly AED 180 to AED 500, because travel time sits inside the rate.

Monthly shapes are worth knowing before you compare hourly numbers. Packages advertised in this market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Divide any package by the number of hours before deciding it is cheaper.

Put the figure in context rather than in isolation. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for 2026-27, so a tutoring decision is not competing with a fee increase this year. Against that, a two-year IGCSE programme with weekly support in two subjects is a four-figure annual commitment, and it deserves the same scrutiny as a school fee: what is the plan, which paper is it aimed at, and what will tell us in six weeks whether it is working.

Online, in-home or a group class: how UAE families decide

Home tutoring is a real market here and the question deserves a real answer. An in-home tutor in Dubai or Abu Dhabi charges roughly AED 180 to AED 500 an hour, with travel inside that rate, and the pool a family can choose from is whoever will drive to their community at the hour they want. That pool shrinks fast once the requirement gets specific: Extended-tier Chemistry 0620 at 7pm in Al Ain, or Pearson 4PM1 anywhere north of Sharjah.

Travel also decides the timetable more than families expect. A 5pm start on a weekday in Dubai means a tutor crossing the city in the worst hour of the day, which is paid for either in the rate or in a later start. A ninety-minute round trip for a sixty-minute lesson is a poor trade for everyone in it, and it is the reason in-home sessions cluster into two-hour blocks that suit the logistics rather than the attention span of a fifteen-year-old.

IB Gram delivers online IGCSE tuition, one-to-one over live video, and does not send tutors to addresses in the Emirates; home visits are an India-only service. The argument for that is not cost. It is that the match is made on the specification rather than on the map, so a family in Fujairah and a family in Jumeirah draw from the same pool of subject specialists, and a 7pm slot is genuinely 7pm rather than 7pm plus traffic.

Group classes and tuition centres have their place, with two conditions. A small group only works if everyone in it sits the same board and the same tier, otherwise half the room is being taught the wrong paper. And a centre with premises and staff in Dubai is a regulated business that needs an educational services permit for a training institute, which is worth asking about before paying a term in advance. Trying the school's own intervention sessions first costs nothing.

Is your tutor legally permitted to teach in the UAE?

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit, which is the single most under-written fact in this market. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 on private tuition work permits. It is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students.

The application route is public. MoHRE's own service is titled Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, listing no fees and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so treat any specific amount you see quoted as unverified, including the figure that circulates on forums.

Two conditions matter more than the permit itself. The permit's code of conduct bars serving students affiliated with the holder's own school, and ADEK's professional-ethics rules for Abu Dhabi private and charter school staff prohibit paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school. So the offer that sounds best to a worried parent, the child's own subject teacher taking paid evening lessons, is the one to decline. Treat that as press-reported and check the current ADEK document before relying on the exact wording.

A tutoring business with premises is a different legal animal from an individual tutor. A training institute in Dubai needs a KHDA educational services permit, with initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and renewal requested at least 30 days before expiry. IB Gram is an independent online tutor-matching platform with no UAE premises and no permit of that kind, and does not describe itself as approved by any authority named here.

Coursework, past papers and the line a tutor does not cross

IGCSE courses carry less internally assessed work than the IB Diploma, but they carry some, and UAE families are shown offers that cross the line. A tutor teaches, explains, models a method, reviews a draft and gives feedback the student then acts on. A tutor does not finish a piece of coursework on a student's behalf, does not rewrite a draft into a submission, and does not supply text to be handed in. One provider ranking in this market sells completed Internal Assessments outright; that is a malpractice trigger for the student, not a shortcut.

Feedback that stays on the right side of the line looks specific and unglamorous. Point at the criterion the work is being marked against, name what is missing, give an example from a different context, and send the student away to write it. Mark a timed paper and hand back the mark scheme's logic rather than the answer. Ask the question the examiner would ask. None of that is as satisfying to buy as a finished document, and all of it is the only version that survives a school's academic-honesty check.

The same discipline applies to materials. We reference IGCSE syllabuses, specifications, past papers and mark schemes and link to the boards' own pages at cambridgeinternational.org and qualifications.pearson.com; we do not host or distribute copies. Those documents are the boards' copyright and they reach students through centres. A tutor offering a private archive of unreleased material is offering a problem, and in the worst case an exposure that lands on the candidate.

Examiner claims deserve the same scepticism. Nobody should describe a tutor as a current IB or Cambridge examiner without evidence, and examiner status should never be used to imply access to marking decisions, grade boundaries or paper content. The useful question for a parent is narrower and more answerable: has this tutor taught this specification, at this tier, through a full exam series, and can they talk about the paper by number?

Where we tutor

Where your child studies, and who signs off the school

The emirate your family lives in decides which authority inspects the school, approves its fees and curriculum, and publishes anything you can read about it. For an IGCSE plan that changes what you can verify and who you ask. Every lesson we run is online, so the emirate changes the context, not the availability.

Dubai

KHDA oversees the quality of private education in the emirate. In 2024-25 Dubai had 227 private schools and 387,441 students across 17 curricula, with the UK curriculum the largest single group at 37% of the roll. KHDA publishes inspection reports you can read before enrolling.

Abu Dhabi

ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate, and is named by essentially none of the tutoring sites competing for this search. Its professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit paid private tutoring of students enrolled at the teacher's own school.

Al Ain

Also ADEK territory, with a smaller British-curriculum cohort than Abu Dhabi island. Extended-tier science and Additional Mathematics cover is genuinely thinner in the local market, which is the practical argument for an online match rather than a drive-time one.

Sharjah

The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in the emirate and approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. That is approval of the course itself, not inspection alone, which is why a cross-emirate school move can change what is taught.

Ajman

The federal Ministry of Education supervises private schools here, rather than an emirate-level authority. The British-curriculum cohort is small, so a Year 11 student needing a specific Pearson specification is unlikely to find a local specialist in that exact paper set.

Umm Al Quwain

Also under federal Ministry of Education supervision. Many families commute to schools in Sharjah or Ras Al Khaimah, which pushes the realistic start time for a weekday session later than a Dubai family would plan for.

Ras Al Khaimah

The Department of Knowledge regulates private education in the emirate and, like Sharjah, approves fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Returns zero mentions across the competitor pages researched for this market, which tells you how little of this gets written down.

Fujairah

Federal Ministry of Education supervision, and the longest drive in the country to any tuition centre with a British-curriculum specialist on staff. East-coast families are the clearest case for one-to-one online delivery, because the alternative is ninety minutes of car for sixty minutes of teaching.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in the UAE

Dubai

The largest concentration of IGCSE entries in the country, and the widest spread of tier policy. Two schools a few kilometres apart can have very different thresholds for offering the Extended tier in Maths, so a transfer between them can change a child's grade ceiling without changing a single lesson.

Abu Dhabi and Al Ain

Schools here answer to ADEK rather than KHDA, which changes where a parent looks for licensing and inspection information. It also means the staff-ethics position is explicit: an Abu Dhabi school's own teachers are barred from taking paid private lessons with their own enrolled students.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send us the code, the tier and the series

The first message should carry four things: the syllabus or specification code for each subject, the tier your child is entered on, the exam series the entry is in, and the two or three evening windows that genuinely work on Gulf Standard Time. If you do not have the codes yet, email the exams officer first; it is one email and it changes everything downstream.

  2. 02

We check who is genuinely free, and say so if nobody is

We look for a tutor who has taught that exact specification at that tier through a full series, and who is free in your window. If no UAE-based specialist covers a niche paper set, we say that in plain words and offer an India-based specialist in the same online format rather than quietly substituting a generalist. The coverage answer comes before the invoice.

  3. 03

A free trial lesson, then you decide

One lesson with the matched tutor, at no charge, with no card details taken and nothing owed if you stop there. Sit in on it if you want to. The point is to see whether the tutor can talk about the actual papers, diagnose the gaps and hold a fifteen-year-old's attention for an hour over video. If any of those is missing, there is no second lesson.

  4. 04

A written plan counted backwards from the entry deadline

After the trial, a short written plan: which topics, in which order, against which paper number, with the final entry deadline and the exam window marked on it. If the aim is a tier move, the plan carries a decision point before final entry and an honest view of whether a later series is the better bet. Plans get revised; unwritten plans get forgotten.

  5. 05

Review every fortnight, and change the tutor if it is not working

Every two weeks you get the topic tracker and a straight answer on progress, measured against marked work rather than impressions. If the tutor is not the right fit we change them, and if more hours will not fix the problem we say that too. Scheduling moves around Ramadan, Eid and the exam calendar without penalty.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched by specification, not by subject name

Your child is entered for 0620 or for 4CH1, on Core or Extended, in a specific series. We match on those facts, because a Chemistry tutor who has never seen the other board's Paper 4 will teach confidently and aim at the wrong target. Send the code and the tier and the match gets narrower and more useful.

Online, one-to-one, on Gulf Standard Time

Every lesson runs over live video with screen-sharing and a shared whiteboard, scheduled around the school day, the school run and the mandatory-subject periods. There are no home visits anywhere in the Emirates; that service exists only in India. Emirate and community change the context on this page, not the availability of a tutor.

Honest about coverage, including when the answer is no

Specialist cover for Additional Mathematics, Further Pure, Computer Science and first-language Arabic is genuinely thin in some emirates. No competitor page in this market discloses a coverage limit. We tell you before you pay whether a UAE-based specialist is available, what the alternative is, and what it costs.

Regulator facts with sources attached

Every regulatory statement on this page comes from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoHRE, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge or Pearson, and names where to check it. IB Gram holds no approval, licence or partnership from any of them and claims none. Where a fact could not be verified, such as an IB session date or a fine amount, this page says so instead of guessing.

The coursework line stated in writing

A tutor here teaches, reviews and gives feedback on work the student has written. Nobody finishes a piece of coursework for a candidate, rewrites a draft into a submission or supplies text to hand in. We do not host copies of board syllabuses, past papers or mark schemes, and we link to the boards' own pages instead.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in the UAE: your questions answered

How do I find out whether my child sits Cambridge IGCSE or Pearson Edexcel International GCSE?+

Email the school's exams officer and ask for the syllabus or specification code on this year's entry for each subject. Cambridge codes are four digits, such as 0580 for Mathematics or 0625 for Physics. Pearson International GCSE codes look like 4MA1 or 4PH1. The subject name alone does not tell you, and the textbook on the shelf is not proof, because schools change boards between cohorts and sometimes enter for different boards in different subjects. Get it in writing before you book tutoring, because the two boards have different papers, different tier structures and different timetables for subjects that share a title.

My daughter has been placed on the Core tier in Maths. Does that close off A Level?+

It can, and that is the honest answer. On Cambridge Mathematics 0580 the Core paper set does not carry the full grade range, so the top grades are only available on Extended. Many sixth forms set a prerequisite grade for A Level Maths or IB Higher Level Analysis and Approaches that a Core entry cannot reach. Ask the school two questions in writing: which grade range this entry allows, and what your daughter would need to show to be entered on Extended. Then ask the sixth form you are aiming at what grade it requires. Decide against the post-16 plan rather than against this year's comfort level.

How many IGCSE subjects does the UAE Ministry of Education count towards equivalency?+

The published rule on the British track is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates, each at a grade no less than E or grade 3, plus post-16 study: one subject at Advanced Level at no less than E, or two subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. One tutoring site currently ranking for this market states six subjects, which does not match the published rule. Verify the current requirement on moe.gov.ae and through your emirate's attestation channel before you build a subject plan around it. IB Gram does not perform, accelerate or guarantee equivalency; we can only point you at the official source.

Does an IGCSE in Arabic count towards the five subjects the ministry asks for?+

No. The published equivalency rule states that Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects. They remain compulsory at school under KHDA's mandatory-subject requirements, and a good grade in either is worth having, but neither fills one of the five slots. The practical consequence is that a nine-subject programme has a thinner margin than it appears to once those two come out of the count. Work out which five subjects are carrying the requirement before Year 11 rather than after results day, and confirm the current rule on moe.gov.ae because requirements are revised.

Why does the Cambridge timetable my child follows differ from the one I downloaded?+

Because Cambridge allocates every exam centre to one of six administrative zones, and each zone has its own version of the timetable. Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version for your zone and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after the wrong zone timetable was used. A timetable found through a search result may well belong to another zone. Ask your school's exams officer for the version that applies to your centre, and plan the revision run-in from that document rather than from anything downloaded independently.

When do final IGCSE entries have to be submitted, and who submits them?+

The school submits them, and the deadline sits months before the papers. Cambridge's published key dates for its March 2027 series put final entries on 27 November 2026 against an exam period of 3 February to 4 March 2027. That deadline fixes the subject list and the tier, which is why a tier change requested in January is a school-level problem rather than a simple administrative edit. Ask your exams officer for the entry deadline for your child's series at the start of the academic year, write it on the calendar, and treat it as the real deadline rather than the exam date.

What does a KHDA inspection rating tell me about IGCSE teaching at that school?+

KHDA is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in Dubai, and it publishes inspection reports you can read before enrolling. A rating is a whole-school judgement, so it tells you about leadership, teaching quality and outcomes across the school rather than about one department. Read the body of the report instead of the headline band, and look for what it says about the secondary phase and about the subjects your child will take. For Abu Dhabi and Al Ain the equivalent information sits with ADEK, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools there.

Abu Dhabi schools answer to ADEK rather than KHDA. Does that change an IGCSE plan?+

It changes where you look and one rule you should know. ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, so licensing and inspection information comes from adek.gov.ae rather than from KHDA. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff also prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and teachers tutoring outside school hours must hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit. The IGCSE itself is unchanged, since the board sets the syllabus and the papers. Treat the ethics rule as press-reported and check the current ADEK document.

Which IGCSE subjects do UAE students most often need help with?+

Extended-tier Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics come up most, followed by First Language English and Additional Mathematics. The pattern is not random. Those are the subjects where marks depend on a drilled method rather than on recall: mole calculations and ionic equations, unit conversion and graph gradients, shown working on long structured questions, and the directed-writing task that is marked on reading as much as on writing. Arabic also comes up often, usually because a family has confused the mandatory school subject with an IGCSE Arabic entry under Cambridge 0508 or 0544, which are separate courses with separate papers.

My son wants to sit two IGCSEs as a private candidate. How does that work here?+

Private candidate entries are made through a registered exam centre rather than directly with the board, so the first step is finding a centre in your emirate that accepts external candidates for the subjects and series you want. Entry deadlines are the centre's deadlines and they sit months before the papers, so start early. Subjects with a practical component need particular care, because the centre has to be able to offer either the practical test or the alternative-to-practical paper. Ask the centre which option it runs before entering, and confirm the current arrangements on the board's own website.

What is the difference between IGCSE grades 9 to 1 and A* to G on one certificate?+

They are two grading scales used by two different arrangements. Cambridge grades most IGCSE syllabuses A* to G, with a 9 to 1 version used where a centre enters for it. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE grades 9 to 1 throughout. That is why two siblings in the same family, or two subjects for the same child, can come back on different scales with nothing wrong. When a university or an employer asks for a comparison, use the board's own published equivalence rather than a conversion table from a tutoring site, and keep both certificates for any attestation or equivalency application.

How much do IGCSE tutors in the UAE charge per hour?+

Market rates, as published by providers and read in October 2026: budget online tutoring advertised from AED 45 to 65 and from AED 33 to 52 an hour; a qualified subject tutor working online around AED 150 to 300, with one agency quoting IGCSE from AED 150; in-home one-to-one roughly AED 180 to 500 with travel inside the rate; specialist exam-year support AED 200 to 450 and above; premium named tutors advertised at AED 650. Monthly packages include AED 799 for eight online sessions. Those are the market's numbers, not IB Gram's; our own route is a free trial lesson and then a quote against the written plan.

Who issues the permit a private tutor must hold in the UAE, and can I check it?+

MoHRE issues it. The private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers school teachers, government and private sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's service page is titled Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing and lists a two-working-day completion time with no fee. Ask a tutor directly whether they hold a current permit. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule is published.

We move from Dubai to Sharjah in the summer. Will the IGCSE course carry over?+

The qualification carries over; the delivery may not. The board sets the syllabus, so Extended-tier Chemistry 0620 is the same course in both emirates. What changes is the regulator and what it approves: the Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in Sharjah and approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, while KHDA oversees quality in Dubai. Ask the receiving school three questions: which board and code it enters for in each subject, which tier it will place your child on, and whether the subject options you need are timetabled. Tier is the one that can change a grade ceiling.

Is there an IGCSE exam series in March, and should we enter for it?+

Cambridge publishes key dates for a March series alongside its June and November series, and it is not offered at every centre. For the March 2027 series the exam period runs 3 February to 4 March 2027, with final entries due 27 November 2026 and results to Cambridge Direct on 13 May 2027. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May or June and in November. Whether a March entry suits your child depends on whether the content will genuinely be finished by early February, and on what your centre actually offers, so ask the exams officer before planning around it.

How should Ramadan change an IGCSE revision plan?+

Shift the hours rather than cutting them. Shortened school days, fasting and a changed sleep pattern make a 4pm session the worst slot of the day for most teenagers during Ramadan, and a post-Iftar slot the best. Eid then removes teaching days from the week either side. Build the plan around that in advance: front-load new content into the weeks before, use Ramadan for consolidation and timed practice at a later hour, and keep the final entry deadline and the exam window in view. Online lessons move hour to hour without anyone's travel plans having to change.

Can a tutor help with the practical paper or the alternative to practical?+

Yes, and they are two different jobs. Cambridge science candidates sit either a practical test or an alternative-to-practical written paper, depending on what the centre offers; Pearson assesses practical skills inside the written papers. The alternative-to-practical paper rewards a specific written technique: reading apparatus diagrams, describing a method precisely, identifying sources of error and processing a results table. That is coachable over video with shared diagrams and real past-paper questions. A hands-on practical test needs lab time at school, so tutoring there focuses on method, recording and the examiner's expectations rather than on manipulation.

Does IB Gram send a tutor to our address in the UAE, or are lessons online?+

Lessons are online. Every session is one-to-one over live video with screen-sharing and a shared whiteboard, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not arrange visits to addresses anywhere in the Emirates; that is a service offered only in India. The reason is availability rather than cost. Matching on the specification instead of on the map means a family in Fujairah, Al Ain or Umm Al Quwain draws from the same pool of subject specialists as a family in Dubai, and an evening slot stays at the time it was booked rather than moving with the traffic.

Start with the code, the tier and the deadline

If you take three things from this page, take these. Email the exams officer for the syllabus code and the tier on this year's entry, because everything else follows from those two facts. Write the final entry deadline on the calendar, because it fixes the tier months before the paper. And check the five subjects carrying your child's MoE equivalency, remembering that Arabic and Islamic education sit outside that count. When you have those, send them to us. We will tell you honestly who is free in that exact paper set, arrange a free trial lesson with no card details taken, and write a plan counted backwards from the deadline.
