IGCSE Tutor near me in Al Barari

Searching for an IGCSE tutor near me in Al Barari runs into a problem specific to this part of Dubai: the schools your neighbours use do not all sit the same exam board. A tutor who is geographically close may be teaching a different specification from the one your child will be examined on. Al Barari has no school inside its gates, so this page sorts the boards first. IB Gram teaches one-to-one, live over video.

  • Matched by syllabus code, not by driving distance
  • Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel specifications both covered
  • First lesson free with the tutor who would continue

IB & IGCSE in Al Barari

The nearest tutor may be teaching the wrong specification

A proximity search has a hidden failure mode in this part of Dubai, and almost nobody warns parents about it. Al Barari is a villa community off Al Ain Road with no school inside its own gates, so every pupil commutes out — some north into Nad Al Sheba, some west towards Motor City and the Arabian Ranches, some further into Dubailand. Those schools do not all use the same awarding body. Two children from neighbouring villas can both be preparing for 'IGCSE Chemistry' and be preparing for different qualifications with different paper structures.

So the tutor who lives closest is not necessarily the tutor who knows your child's course. Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry is syllabus 0620. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Chemistry is 4CH1. They cover similar chemistry and examine it differently, and the tiering rules are not the same. A tutor who learned one specification well and is handed a student sitting the other will teach competently for a term and leave the child unprepared for the actual paper. That is a more expensive mistake than paying a higher hourly rate.

This page therefore compares Al Barari with its neighbouring communities honestly and then shows that the comparison does not change the answer. The commutes differ, the school mix differs, and the board mix differs. What does not differ is that selecting by syllabus code produces a better tutor than selecting by distance, in every one of these communities equally.

There is a second reason the proximity instinct misleads here. What parents actually want from a nearby tutor is accountability: someone who can be identified, who will not be swapped out, and who will still be there in eight weeks. Distance is a weak proxy for all three. A named tutor, a written note after every session and a free first lesson in which you watch the teaching happen deliver them directly, and they do not require anybody to drive down Al Ain Road at five o'clock.

The one place where distance genuinely counts is the youngest end. A pupil who needs an adult physically present to stay on task is poorly served by a screen, and we will say so rather than argue a family into a format that cannot work for their child. For Year 10 and Year 11 work, though, a session means worked questions, a marked past paper and a conversation about where the credit went, and none of that requires anyone to be in the room.

IB Gram delivers IGCSE tuition to Al Barari as live one-to-one lessons over video, scheduled to Gulf Standard Time. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. What follows is the board comparison, the community comparison, the Dubai market rates in dirhams with their sources, the grading scales set side by side, and the permit rules that govern anyone you hire in this emirate.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

An IGCSE tutor near Al Barari is being asked for at one of three points, and the job is different at each. These are the stages, with what is still changeable at each one.

Y9Ages 13-14

Year 9, before the course starts

The least common booking and the most efficient. Work at this point is about securing algebraic fluency, written stamina in the sciences and reading-response technique, all of which the IGCSE specification assumes rather than teaches. It also gives a family evidence to use in the subject and tier conversation at the end of the year.

In Dubai this stage coincides with option choices, and the question families underuse is what each sixth-form route in their own school requires. Schools near Al Barari split at sixteen into A Levels, the IB Diploma or both, and those routes assume specific IGCSE subjects at specific tiers.

Y10Ages 14-15

Year 10, building the grade

The year in which the grade is actually made. A tutor consolidates content as the school teaches it, builds method, units and command-term discipline before questions get harder, and can flag a mismatched tier entry while it can still be changed. The effort required per mark is lower here than at any later point.

Al Barari commutes make a five o'clock weekday start realistic, so Year 10 families often do better with a weekend morning slot. Dubai school holidays also allow four or five sessions a week, which closes content gaps that a single weekly slot cannot reach.

Y11Ages 15-16

Year 11, after the mocks

The most common booking. A marked mock paper is evidence, and the first session reads it question by question to establish whether marks went to content, method, units, command terms or timing. Teaching then follows the mark distribution rather than the syllabus order, usually at two sessions a week to the series.

The series matters here. Cambridge runs June and November for UAE candidates and Pearson Edexcel runs May/June and November, with entries closing months in advance through the centre. A resit decision taken after results must be entered for the next series rather than taken at a convenient moment.

Post16Ages 16-19

After IGCSE, into A Level or the Diploma

The destination that should have shaped the tier decision two years earlier. A Level and IB Higher Level courses assume the Extended or Higher tier content in mathematics and the sciences, so a child entered for Core in a subject they intend to continue arrives with a genuine content hole rather than a confidence gap.

For a UAE university application the Ministry of Education's British-track equivalency requires five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic education, plus one A Level at E or two AS Levels at E. Verify the current rule on the Ministry's own channel.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the IGCSE subjects Al Barari families ask about, with both boards' codes. The codes are the point: a tutor matched to the subject but not the specification is a term wasted.

Mathematics

Cambridge 0580 Core and Extended · Edexcel 4MA1 Foundation and Higher

Two papers on each board. Method marks are forfeited by unshown steps even where the final answer is right, which penalises exactly the pupils who calculate quickly in their heads. Rounding and units cost more across a paper than any single topic does.

Additional Mathematics

Cambridge 0606 · Edexcel Further Pure 4PM1

Taken alongside the main course by pupils heading for A Level Mathematics or IB Higher Level Maths AA. Introduces calculus, logarithms and trigonometric identities early. Differentiation is usually where fluency and genuine understanding separate.

Chemistry

Cambridge 0620 · Edexcel 4CH1

Bonding, moles, rates, organic chemistry and qualitative analysis. Mole calculations decide the grade because they recur and compound: an early unit error survives to the final answer. Analysis recall is pure learned content and the cheapest marks available.

Physics

Cambridge 0625 · Edexcel 4PH1

Mechanics, electricity, waves, thermal physics and magnetism. Electricity is the reliable weak spot because circuit reasoning requires holding three relationships together rather than recalling one formula. Practical questions reward naming the controlled variable.

Biology

Cambridge 0610 · Edexcel 4BI1

Large content load with exact terminology. Marks go to pupils who answer the command term rather than writing everything they know, and to precise diagram labelling. Inheritance rewards drawing the cross rather than reasoning in prose.

Combined and Co-ordinated Science

Cambridge 0653 and 0654 · Edexcel 4SD0

One or two awards covering all three sciences, common where a pupil takes a broader subject spread. Content is reduced per science but the paper still demands the same command-term precision, which catches out pupils who assume it is a lighter course.

English Language

Cambridge 0500 and 0990 · Edexcel 4EA1

Reading response and directed writing, marked on comprehension, summary skill and control of register. The summary question is the most coachable task on the paper: it rewards selection and compression rather than style.

English as a Second Language

Cambridge 0510 and 0511

Reading, writing, listening and, where entered, speaking. Text types are assessed on format and register, so an email, report or article each carry conventions. Confident speakers often underperform here because nobody taught them the conventions explicitly.

Business Studies

Cambridge 0450 · Edexcel 4BS1

Case-study assessment where context carries the marks. Answering with textbook theory and never referring to the business in the stimulus is the standard loss. Costs, revenue and ratio calculations are easy marks routinely skipped under time pressure.

Economics

Cambridge 0455 · Edexcel 4EC1

Markets, the macro economy and trade. A mislabelled diagram axis undermines every sentence built on it. Evaluation marks require an explicit stated judgement, which pupils omit even after writing a strong explanation.

Computer Science

Cambridge 0478 · Edexcel 4CP0

Systems, data representation, algorithms and programming. Binary, hexadecimal and logic gates are learnable in a handful of sessions and recur every series. Hand-tracing pseudocode is the missing skill, because pupils learn to run code rather than predict it.

Arabic

First language and additional language, plus mandated strands

Compulsory in Dubai private schools alongside the licensed curriculum. KHDA requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab pupils because curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ, and tutoring splits along the same line.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways Al Barari families run IGCSE tuition with us, all live one-to-one over video on Gulf Standard Time. The choice follows the school calendar rather than anyone's address.

Weekly, built on the specification

One subject, one tutor, a protected weekly slot. The tutor works from the actual syllabus code your child sits and stays slightly ahead of the school, so lessons land as consolidation rather than first exposure. This is where a grade gets built rather than rescued.

  • Planned from the specification, not a generic scheme
  • Past-paper questions used from the first term
  • Method and units drilled before content hardens
  • Early warning if the tier entry looks wrong

Weekend mornings rather than weekday evenings

Underused in villa communities with long commutes and frequently the better arrangement. A Saturday morning catches a Year 11 rested instead of after a drive, a full school day and homework. It also allows a longer session or two subjects back to back, and specialist availability is often better.

  • Student alert rather than post-commute
  • Room for a double session or two subjects
  • Weekday evenings left for school homework
  • Often better access to specialist tutors

Holiday and Ramadan-adjusted blocks

Dubai school breaks allow four or five sessions a week, which closes content gaps a single weekly slot cannot. The winter break before a Year 11 spring term is the highest-value block of the two years. Ramadan sessions move to the earlier afternoon or post-Iftar and shorten rather than stop.

  • Four to five sessions a week in school breaks
  • Best used for whole-topic repair
  • Post-Iftar scheduling available in Ramadan
  • Shorter sessions rather than skipped weeks

Two subjects with one tutor, consecutive slots

Common in Year 11 where mathematics and one science are both weak. A single tutor across both can see that a physics problem is really an equation-rearranging problem, which two separate tutors would each diagnose within their own subject. Still two individual lessons, never a group.

  • Back-to-back one-to-one sessions
  • Shared diagnosis across maths and science
  • One block to protect in the household calendar
  • Usual pairing: 0580 or 4MA1 with 0620 or 0625

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Barari

01

Why your neighbour's tutor may be no use to your child

Recommendation is how most tutoring in villa communities gets arranged, and in a community like Al Barari it carries a specific risk. The family three doors down has a child at a different school, possibly sitting a different awarding body, and their excellent tutor may have no working knowledge of the specification your child will be examined on. This is not a hypothetical. In the Dubailand belt, Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel are both widely used, sometimes within a few kilometres of each other.

The difference is not cosmetic. Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 tiers as Core and Extended; Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics 4MA1 tiers as Foundation and Higher. The grade ceilings, the paper structures and the content boundaries differ. In the sciences, Cambridge Physics 0625 and Edexcel 4PH1 treat practical skills differently in the written papers. A tutor who teaches one as though it were the other will cover material that is not examined and skip material that is.

The fix costs one email. Ask the school's exams officer for the awarding body, the syllabus code and the tier for every subject your child takes, and get it in writing rather than relying on what the child believes. Pupils frequently do not know, and a textbook cover is not evidence. Once you have the codes, any tutor can be assessed in two minutes: ask them to describe the papers for that code and the answer is either specific or it is not.

This is also the strongest practical argument for ignoring distance when you choose. The pool of tutors who know Cambridge 0620 well is a different pool from the one who know Edexcel 4CH1 well, and neither pool is distributed by neighbourhood. Filtering by syllabus code gives you the right pool; filtering by postcode gives you whoever is nearby from both.

Al Barari against the communities next door

Here is the comparison the proximity search implies and never shows. These communities sit within a short drive of one another, share roads and school runs, and differ in ways that affect scheduling rather than supply. The useful conclusion is the one in the right-hand column: the sensible answer is the same in every row.

Commute length is the real difference. A Nad Al Sheba pupil may be home by half past three and can start a session at half past four. An Al Barari pupil commuting out, or an Arabian Ranches 3 pupil on shared transport, may not be settled until half past four or five. That hour decides whether a weekday evening slot survives a term or whether the household should be looking at a weekend morning instead. Tired sessions produce very little, and families tend to blame the tutor.

Board mix is the second difference, and it is the one that makes local recommendation unreliable in this belt. Because the communities feed several school clusters, two neighbouring households can be on different specifications in the same subject. A tutor shared between them is teaching one of the two children the wrong paper structure, and nobody notices until a mock.

What does not differ between these communities is specialist supply. The number of tutors in Dubai who know a specific syllabus code at the higher tier is a fixed, fairly small number, and it is not distributed by neighbourhood. In-home rates rise with distance from the centre while the available pool does not improve, so the further out you live the worse the value of a proximity search becomes.

What the travel premium actually buys

  • In-home market rate AED 180-500 per hour including travel
  • Online qualified subject tutor AED 150-300 per hour
  • Packages: around AED 799 for eight online, AED 1,599-1,799 for four in-home
  • The premium buys presence, not teaching quality or choice
  • IB Gram offers no home visits in the UAE; this is India-only

Most pages comparing online and in-home tuition argue about effectiveness. The more useful question is narrower: when you pay the in-home premium, what are you buying with that specific money? Market figures read in October 2026 put in-home one-to-one tuition in Dubai at roughly AED 180 to AED 500 an hour including travel, against roughly AED 150 to AED 300 for a qualified subject tutor online. Published monthly packages show AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits against around AED 799 for eight online sessions.

So the premium is substantial and it buys exactly three things. It buys an adult physically in the room, which is a real intervention for a young or distractible child. It buys a session that does not depend on a connection. And it buys the absence of a screen, which some families value for its own sake. Those are legitimate purchases and this page is not going to argue a family out of them.

What the premium does not buy is better teaching, a wider choice of tutor, or more reliable attendance. On the contrary: it narrows the pool to people who will drive to a villa community off Al Ain Road at five on a weekday and hold that slot weekly for a term, and it introduces traffic as a cancellation risk on both legs of the journey. Two lost weeks in a Year 11 spring term is two weeks removed from a fixed countdown to the series.

IB Gram does not offer in-home tuition anywhere in the UAE, so the comparison here is not neutral and should be read with that in mind. The figures, though, are the market's own published numbers, and the three things the premium buys are stated as plainly as we can state them. If one of those three is what your child needs, the right provider is one who offers it, and that is not us in this country.

04

Grading scales, tiers and ceilings, side by side

Parents in Dubai deal with two IGCSE grading scales at once and frequently do not realise it. Cambridge reports some syllabuses on A* to G and others on 9 to 1, and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE reports on 9 to 1. A child may therefore come home with an A in one subject and a 7 in another from the same series, and comparing them requires knowing which scale each sits on. Ask the school which scale each of your child's subjects uses, because the answer affects how you read a mock result.

The second thing to understand is the tier ceiling. On Cambridge, a Core entry caps the grade that can be awarded regardless of how well the paper is answered. The Extended tier reaches the full range. Edexcel's Foundation and Higher tiers work the same way. This is the single most consequential administrative decision in the two years, and it is usually made quietly in Year 10 on the basis of a school assessment.

If your child is on the lower tier in a subject they intend to continue at A Level or IB Higher Level, raise it with the school now rather than after the mocks. Whether the entry can still move depends on the school and on how close the entry deadline is, and entries close months before papers are sat. A tutor's useful role here is evidential: a marked past paper at the higher tier is a more persuasive document in that conversation than a parent's opinion.

The table sets the scales and ceilings next to each other. Treat it as a structural guide and confirm your child's specific subjects with the school, because awarding bodies revise which syllabuses sit on which scale and the current specification is the authority.

A revision routine that works in a commuting household

The most common reason IGCSE tutoring underperforms is not the tutor. It is that the set work between sessions does not get done, and in a commuting household with a five o'clock arrival home there is a real reason for that. So the routine has to be designed around the week that exists rather than the week a revision guide assumes.

What works is small and specific. One past-paper question set per subject per week, timed, rather than an hour of open revision. Timed is the operative word: a student who knows the material but spends fourteen minutes on a six-mark question will not finish the paper, and unanswered questions score nothing. Twenty minutes with a clock running teaches more than ninety minutes without one, and it fits in a household where the evening starts late.

The second element is marking against the published scheme rather than against a sense of whether the answer was right. This is the habit that changes results, because it shows the student where credit is actually awarded: a method step, a unit, a named variable, a stated judgement. Students who learn to read a mark scheme start writing for the marker instead of writing what they know. A tutor's job in the session is largely to build that habit and then check it.

The third is sequencing by weakness rather than by syllabus order. Revision guides work front to back, which means a student spends week one on content they already know. A marked diagnostic paper tells you which three or four topics are producing most of the lost marks, and those go first. In a household with limited evening hours, that ordering is the difference between a term of revision that moves a grade and a term that confirms one.

06

The school's regulator and the tutor's permit

  • KHDA regulates the school; MoHRE permits the tutor
  • The private tuition permit is free and valid for two years
  • No fine schedule is published, so distrust quoted amounts
  • Dubai: 227 private schools, 37% on a UK curriculum in 2024-25
  • No tutoring company is KHDA-approved without a named permit

Two different regimes apply here and parents routinely merge them. Your child's school is regulated by the emirate. In Dubai that is KHDA, described on u.ae as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate, inspecting annually across six bands from Outstanding to Very Weak. Dubai had 227 private schools and 387,441 pupils in 2024-25, with the UK curriculum accounting for 37% of enrolment, which is why IGCSE provision in the Dubailand belt is so broad.

The tutor is regulated federally. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. Anyone offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE is subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws, and MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time.

No fine amount appears on this page. Khaleej Times reported that the ministry did not specify the fine amounts or detail the penalties, and the figure circulating online could not be verified, so printing it would be guesswork dressed as information. Nor is IB Gram approved, accredited or licensed by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge or Pearson. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific licence issued to training institutes operating premises in Dubai, and nobody should imply otherwise without a permit number.

The useful thing about knowing all this is that it gives you three questions that sort a market quickly. Do you hold a MoHRE private tuition permit? Which awarding body and syllabus code do you teach? Do you work at a school my child attends? The last one matters because ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar Abu Dhabi school staff from paid tutoring of their own enrolled pupils and the permit's code of conduct carries a similar bar.

07

Papers, answers and the line we will not cross

There is a market in this region for supplied answers, finished coursework and distributed past-paper packs, and parents often encounter it through the same search results as legitimate tutoring. It is worth being explicit about where the line sits before anyone asks.

A tutor teaches, questions, demonstrates and gives feedback on the student's own work. That covers explaining what a mark scheme rewards, working through a question alongside the student, diagnosing a method error, and reviewing a draft of anything assessed. It is the same range a classroom teacher works within, and it is where virtually all of the available improvement sits.

What a tutor does not do is produce work that will be submitted as the student's, or hand over awarding-body material as a download. Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables belong to Cambridge and Pearson; reproducing or distributing them is copyright infringement. A tutor works through questions from legitimately obtained material and teaches the student to read the mark scheme themselves, which is the more durable outcome anyway.

Two related claims deserve scepticism wherever you see them. First, examiner status: we do not use it as a selling point for individuals whose current status we cannot evidence, and no examiner experience gives access to marking, grade boundaries or unseen papers. Second, grade promises. We will not tell you a block of sessions produces a specific grade or a specific improvement, because nobody can control that. What we will tell you, after the first diagnostic session, is what the evidence suggests is reachable in the weeks you have.

Where we tutor

Al Barari's neighbours and the boards their schools use

These are the communities a proximity search will return for an Al Barari address. The commute differs, and so does the likely awarding body, which is the variable that actually matters when you hire.

Al Barari

No school inside the gates, so every pupil commutes and the board depends entirely on which school was chosen rather than on where the family lives. Weekday sessions realistically start at five.

Nad Al Sheba

The closest dense provision, with British-curriculum schools running IGCSE before splitting into A Level or the Diploma. Shortest commute of the group and the only community here where an earlier weekday start is routine.

Arabian Ranches

Mature community with its own primary and secondary options nearby. Pupils have often attended a single school throughout, which means a sudden mock dip is usually a topic issue rather than a transition issue.

Motor City

Large British-curriculum cohort and a correspondingly heavy IGCSE load. Families here most often need two subjects tutored simultaneously in Year 11, which is a prioritisation decision before it is a teaching one.

Dubai Sports City

Training commitments compress the usable evening, so holiday intensive blocks timed to the window before the June series are more common here than a term-time weekly slot.

Dubai Hills Estate

Mixed IB and British provision within a short drive, so pupils moving between systems at Year 10 need exam-format work before content work. A different first six sessions from a pupil who has always been on the British route.

DAMAC Hills

British-curriculum schools inside and beside the community. The drive from Al Barari is long enough that cross-community in-home arrangements rarely survive a full term.

Mudon and Remraam

Schooling spread across the Dubailand periphery with shared transport, so arrival times vary by up to half an hour day to day. A fixed online slot absorbs that; a tutor at a gate does not.

School ecosystem

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Get the codes in writing

Email the exams officer for the awarding body, syllabus code and tier in every subject. This is the step that makes a local recommendation safe or useless, and in a community feeding several school clusters it is not optional. Once you have the codes, any tutor can be tested in two minutes by asking them to describe the papers.

  2. 02

One timed paper, marked against the scheme

The diagnostic is a past paper or recent school assessment worked under timing and marked against the published scheme, producing a list of lost marks by type: content, method, units, command term or timing. It frequently contradicts both your theory and your child's, and the contradiction is the useful output.

  3. 03

A free first lesson with the named tutor

One full lesson, no charge, taught by the person who would continue. Judge whether they know that specific code and paper structure, whether they found the real gap, and whether the set work was clear enough to attempt alone. If any answer is no, say so and we match again rather than defending the match.

  4. 04

Choose the slot the commute allows

For Al Barari a five o'clock or later weekday start is realistic, and for the further Dubailand communities it is later again. Where the weekday evening is genuinely overloaded we will suggest a weekend morning instead, because a tired session produces almost nothing and the family blames the tutoring rather than the timing.

  5. 05

A written note the same evening

What was covered, what went wrong, what is set and what comes next, sent after each session. You see progress between school reports instead of waiting for the next one, and the record also shows that any assessed work is your child's own with the tutor's role limited to feedback.

  6. 06

    Re-plan at each real checkpoint

Mocks, reports and marked papers are the points at which the plan is tested against evidence rather than renewed out of habit. Sometimes the answer is to stop in one subject and move the hour to another, and sometimes it is to stop altogether. A weekly session with no current target is a routine, not a plan.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched by syllabus code, not by distance

The first thing we establish is the awarding body, code and tier, and the tutor is selected from the people who teach that specification. In a neighbourhood where adjacent schools use different boards, that single step prevents the most expensive mistake available in IGCSE tutoring.

Honest about what in-home tuition buys

This page names the three things the travel premium actually purchases and says plainly that teaching quality and choice of tutor are not among them. It also says where in-person tuition is the right answer, and since we do not offer it in the UAE, that is advice against our own interest.

Accountability without proximity

What parents want from a nearby tutor is someone identifiable who will still be there in eight weeks. A named tutor, a written note every session and a free first lesson deliver that directly, and none of them depends on anyone driving down Al Ain Road at five o'clock.

Market rates published with their sources

The dirham figures here are competitors' own published numbers with the month they were read, so any quote you receive can be checked against something real. Three of the six pages ranking for these searches publish no price at all, and one asks its own pricing question and then declines to answer it.

No supplied answers, no reproduced papers

Tutors teach and give feedback on your child's own work, and we do not host or distribute awarding-body papers, mark schemes or boundary tables. Teaching a student to read a mark scheme is worth more than handing them its contents, and it is the only version that is lawful.

Clear about what we are not

No home visits in the UAE. No special-educational-needs assessment. No guaranteed grades or score promises. No examiner claims we cannot evidence. No approval, accreditation or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge or Pearson, because we hold none of them.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Barari: your questions answered

Is there an IGCSE tutor actually based in Al Barari?+

Unlikely, and for a specific tier and syllabus code almost certainly not. Al Barari is a small, low-density villa community with no school inside it, so local tutor supply at any level is minimal, and the pool who know a particular specification at the higher tier is small across the whole emirate rather than thin only here. The same applies to Nad Al Sheba, Mudon and the Arabian Ranches phases. Choosing by syllabus code instead of distance is what actually finds someone who knows your child's paper.

Could a tutor recommended by an Al Barari neighbour be teaching the wrong course?+

Yes, and this is the specific risk in this neighbourhood. Al Barari pupils commute to several different school clusters, and those schools do not all use the same awarding body. Cambridge Chemistry 0620 and Edexcel 4CH1 examine similar chemistry with different paper structures and tiering rules. A tutor excellent on one can leave a child unprepared for the other. Ask your neighbour which board and code their child sits, then compare it with your own before accepting the recommendation.

Does IB Gram send an IGCSE tutor to houses in the Dubailand communities?+

No. All UAE tuition is delivered live and one-to-one over video, scheduled to Gulf Standard Time. Home visits are a service we run only in India, and no tutor is sent to any UAE address including Al Barari, Mudon or the Arabian Ranches. What you gain is a shortlist built from everyone who teaches your child's syllabus code rather than everyone willing to drive to your gate at five on a weekday, which for higher-tier sciences is the difference that matters.

What exactly am I paying extra for with an in-home tutor in Dubai?+

Three things, and it is worth knowing which you want. An adult physically in the room, which genuinely helps young or distractible children. A session that does not depend on a connection. And the absence of a screen, which some families value in itself. Market rates read in October 2026 put in-home tuition at roughly AED 180 to AED 500 an hour including travel against AED 150 to AED 300 online. The premium does not buy better teaching, a wider choice of tutor, or more reliable attendance.

Why did my child get an A in one subject and a 7 in another?+

Because Dubai families deal with two grading scales at once. Cambridge reports some syllabuses on A* to G and others on 9 to 1, while Pearson Edexcel International GCSE reports on 9 to 1 throughout. A single series can therefore produce grades on both scales, and they are not directly comparable. Ask the school which scale each of your child's subjects uses, because it changes how you read a mock result and how a university or sixth form will read the final certificate.

Can we still change my child's tier from Core to Extended?+

Possibly, and the answer depends on the school and how close the entry deadline is, since entries close months before papers are sat. Raise it now rather than after the mocks. A Core or Foundation entry caps the grade that can be awarded regardless of performance, which matters most if the subject is needed for an A Level or an IB Higher Level course. A marked higher-tier past paper is the most persuasive thing you can bring to that conversation, which is a legitimate use of a tutor.

How should a Year 11 in a commuting household actually revise?+

Small, timed and marked. One past-paper question set per subject per week under a clock beats an hour of open revision, because timing is where marks are lost: a student who spends fourteen minutes on a six-mark question will not finish the paper. Then mark it against the published scheme rather than against a feeling about whether the answer was right, so the student sees where credit is actually awarded. Sequence topics by where marks went, not by the order in a revision guide.

Which exam series does an Al Barari pupil sit?+

Cambridge runs IGCSE in a June series and a November series, and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November. UAE candidates use those. The February and March series is offered to India only, so any UAE-facing page quoting a March window is wrong about your country. Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states it is essential to use the correct timetable version for the zone, warning that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam otherwise.

How many IGCSE subjects does a UAE university application need?+

For the British track the Ministry of Education requires five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at no less than grade E or grade 3, plus one subject at Advanced Level at E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five. At least one ranking competitor states that six subjects are required, which does not match the published rule. Verify the current requirement on the Ministry's own channel; IB Gram neither performs nor guarantees equivalency.

Do you cover Combined and Co-ordinated Science as well as separate sciences?+

Yes. Cambridge Combined Science 0653, Co-ordinated Science 0654 and the Edexcel Science Double Award 4SD0 are all taught, and they are not simply easier versions of the separate sciences. Content per science is reduced but the papers still demand the same command-term precision and the same calculation discipline, which catches out pupils who were told the course was lighter. Tell us which award your child is entered for, because the content boundaries differ and teaching the wrong one wastes exactly the weeks you cannot spare.

Is a university student an acceptable IGCSE tutor at Dubai market rates?+

For lower secondary and homework supervision, often yes, and the budget band of roughly AED 45 to AED 150 an hour exists for exactly that. University students are explicitly eligible for the MoHRE private tuition permit, so the arrangement is lawful when the permit is held. For Year 11 at the higher tier it is usually a false economy, because what you need is someone who can say where the mark scheme awards credit on a multi-step question, and that comes from teaching the specification rather than from having passed it.

Do tutors in Dubai need a permit, and how do I verify one?+

Yes. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years, covering school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Anyone tutoring without it is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, although no fine schedule is published, so be sceptical of quoted amounts. Ask to see the permit rather than accepting a verbal assurance, and ask any agency placing a tutor the same question.

Will a tutor give us past papers and mark schemes?+

No, and be wary of anyone who offers to. Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables belong to Cambridge and Pearson, and reproducing or distributing them is copyright infringement. What a tutor does is work through questions from legitimately obtained material and teach your child to read a mark scheme themselves so they can see where credit is awarded. That skill changes how they approach the next paper, which handing over answers does not.

How quickly can an IGCSE tutor start for a family in Al Barari?+

For mathematics and the common sciences at either board, usually within a few days, because supply is broad once distance stops being a filter. For Additional Mathematics, Further Pure Mathematics or a minority subject it can take longer, and we will say so rather than putting a generalist in the slot. If a subject cannot be covered at a Gulf Standard Time-compatible hour at all, we tell you that too. Nothing is confirmed until the free first lesson has happened and you have judged it.

Why does my child study Arabic at a British-curriculum school in Dubai?+

Because the emirate requires it regardless of the licensed curriculum. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are compulsory in all Dubai private schools. KHDA also requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab pupils in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies and prohibits combined classes, because curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. The timetable therefore carries subjects beyond the IGCSE list, and Arabic is one of the most requested tutoring streams in the emirate, split along the same two lines.

Two emails, then a free lesson

The first email goes to your child's exams officer asking for the awarding body, the syllabus code and the tier in every subject. The second asks for the mock window, the entry deadline and the series the school enters. With those in hand you can judge any tutor in two minutes by asking them to describe the papers, and a recommendation from a neighbour stops being a gamble on whether their child sits the same qualification as yours. Then book a free first lesson with the named specialist who would continue, and see whether an hour is enough for them to find the real gap. Al Barari sessions run live and one-to-one over video at Gulf Standard Time. We make no home visits in the UAE and promise no grades.
