IGCSE Home Tutor in Al Barari

An IGCSE home tutor in Al Barari is usually wanted for one of two moments: the start of Year 10, when subject choices have just locked, or the middle of Year 11, when a mock result has arrived. Al Barari sits in the Dubailand villa belt, and this page is built around the two-year calendar those families are inside. IB Gram teaches one-to-one, live over video, at Gulf Standard Time.

  • Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel syllabuses taught by code
  • Core and Extended tiers handled as different courses
  • A free trial lesson before anything is booked

IB & IGCSE in Al Barari

Two years, two decision points, one calendar

The IGCSE is a two-year qualification that most Dubai families treat as a single event at the end. That is where the trouble starts. By the time a Year 11 mock result lands in the first term, the grade trajectory has already been set by eighteen months of accumulated understanding, and the remaining months are spent either consolidating it or trying to reverse it. An IGCSE home tutor in Al Barari is therefore doing a completely different job in September of Year 10 than in January of Year 11, and the honest version of this page tells you which job you are buying.

Al Barari has no school inside the community. It is a low-density villa district off Al Ain Road, and every pupil commutes out to the Dubailand and Nad Al Sheba school belt or west to Motor City, Arabian Ranches and Al Barsha South. That geography has one practical effect on IGCSE tutoring: the school day finishes, then a drive happens, and a weekday session realistically starts at five rather than four. It has a second effect that matters more. Children from the same street attend schools using different exam boards, so two neighbours sitting 'IGCSE Physics' may be sitting different papers with different codes and different tiering rules.

That is why the first question we ask is which board and which syllabus code, not which subject. Cambridge IGCSE Physics is 0625. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Physics is 4PH1. They cover similar science and assess it differently, and a tutor working from the wrong specification will teach content that is not examined and skip content that is. Asking a parent for a syllabus code sounds pedantic until you have watched a term wasted on the wrong paper structure.

The second question is the tier. Cambridge Core and Extended are not the same course with different difficulty settings; they cap at different grades and set different papers, and a child entered for Core cannot be awarded above the Core ceiling no matter how well the paper goes. Families regularly discover this in Year 11. If your child is on Core in a subject they need for an A Level or a Diploma route, the conversation to have is with the school, this term, about whether the entry can still change.

Finally, one thing stated plainly. IB Gram delivers IGCSE tuition to Al Barari as live one-to-one online lessons. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are an India-only service. The phrase 'home tutor' is the one parents type, so this page uses it and answers the home-tutoring question properly below, with the market rates and the travel arithmetic. But nothing here promises a tutor at an Al Barari gate, because that is not a service we run.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Al Barari pupils reach IGCSE from several directions, and the entry route changes what a Year 10 tutor has to do first. These are the three paths we see most, with what each one leaves unprepared.

KS3Ages 11-14 · Years 7-9

Key Stage 3 into IGCSE

The standard British-curriculum route. Year 9 ends with subject choices and the IGCSE specification begins in Year 10. The gap that causes trouble is written fluency in the sciences and algebraic manipulation in maths: Key Stage 3 rewards getting the answer, while IGCSE marks method, units and the command term. Pupils who have always been told they are good at maths frequently lose their first Year 10 marks to presentation rather than understanding.

In Dubai this route dominates by enrolment, with UK-curriculum schools accounting for 37% of private pupils in the 2024-25 KHDA figures. For Al Barari families the practical consequence is choice of board: the schools in the Dubailand belt do not all use the same one, so a tutor hired on a neighbour's recommendation may be teaching a different specification from the one your child sits.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

IB Middle Years Programme into IGCSE

Some pupils move from an IB continuum school into a British-curriculum school at Year 10, or sit IGCSE subjects alongside MYP. The transition is harder than it looks. MYP assessment is criterion-based and spread across the year; IGCSE is a terminal written paper with a mark scheme. A student used to being marked on investigation and reflection has to learn to answer a four-mark question in four marks' worth of words.

This route is common in the Dubailand belt precisely because the area mixes IB continuum schools with British-curriculum schools within a short drive. The first job for a tutor is usually not content at all but exam format: past-paper exposure under timing, so that the student finds out in September what the paper actually asks rather than in a Year 11 mock.

CBSEAges 13-16 · Classes 9-11

Indian curriculum into IGCSE

Pupils arriving from CBSE or ICSE are typically ahead on mathematical content and behind on extended written response and practical-skills questions. In the sciences the gap is in experimental design and data evaluation; in English it is in the reading-response and directed-writing formats. The content catch-up is small and the format catch-up is substantial, which is the reverse of what most families expect.

Indian-curriculum schools accounted for 26% of Dubai private enrolment in the 2024-25 figures, so this transition is routine in the emirate and the Dubailand belt sees plenty of it. A Year 10 block of weekly sessions aimed squarely at paper format usually does more for the eventual grade than another term of content teaching.

A LevelAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IGCSE into A Level or the IB Diploma

The destination that should shape Year 10 decisions and usually does not. A Level and IB Diploma courses assume specific IGCSE content, and the Extended tier in maths and the sciences is effectively a prerequisite for the Higher Level and A Level versions. A child entered for Core in a subject they intend to continue arrives in Year 12 with a genuine content hole rather than a confidence problem.

Schools near Al Barari split both ways at 16: some into A Levels, some into the IB Diploma, a few offering both. Ask the school which route it expects and what IGCSE tier and grade each sixth-form course requires, then work backwards. That is a Year 10 conversation, not a Year 11 one.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the IGCSE subjects Al Barari families ask about most, with the syllabus codes and the places marks actually go. A tutor who cannot name the papers for your board is not teaching your child's course.

Mathematics

Cambridge 0580 Core and Extended · Edexcel 4MA1 Foundation and Higher

Two papers on both boards, with Extended and Higher tiers reaching into functions, calculus-adjacent gradient work and more demanding algebra. Marks disappear in method: an unshown step forfeits the method mark even where the answer is right. Rounding and units cost more marks across a paper than any single topic.

Additional Mathematics

Cambridge 0606 · taken alongside 0580

Sat by pupils heading for A Level Mathematics or Higher Level Maths AA. It introduces calculus, logarithms and trigonometric identities ahead of time. It is where students who coasted through 0580 discover that fluency and understanding are different things, usually in the differentiation topic.

Physics

Cambridge 0625 · Edexcel 4PH1

Mechanics, electricity, waves, thermal physics and magnetism. Electricity is the reliable weak point: circuit reasoning requires holding current, potential difference and resistance relationships together rather than recalling one formula. Practical-skills questions reward naming the variable being controlled, which is a teachable habit.

Chemistry

Cambridge 0620 · Edexcel 4CH1

Bonding, moles, rates, organic chemistry and qualitative analysis. Mole calculations are where the grade is decided, because they recur across the paper and compound: a unit error at the first step survives to the final answer. Qualitative-analysis recall is pure learned content and the cheapest marks on the paper.

Biology

Cambridge 0610 · Edexcel 4BI1

Heavy content load with precise terminology. Students lose marks writing everything they know instead of answering the command term, and on diagrams where labelling must be exact. Transport, respiration and inheritance are the usual trouble spots; inheritance in particular rewards drawing the cross rather than reasoning in prose.

English Language

Cambridge 0500 and 0990 · Edexcel 4EA1

Reading response and directed writing, assessed on comprehension, summary skill and control of register. The summary question is the most coachable on the paper: it rewards selection and compression, not style. Students who write beautifully and select badly score below students who do the reverse.

English as a Second Language

Cambridge 0510 and 0511

Reading, writing, listening and, where entered, speaking. Text-type accuracy is assessed: an email, a report and an article are marked partly on format and register. Candidates with confident spoken English frequently underperform here because the marks are in conventions they have never been taught explicitly.

Economics

Cambridge 0455 · Edexcel 4EC1

Market mechanisms, the macro economy and international trade. Diagram accuracy decides the longer questions: a mislabelled axis undermines every sentence built on it. Evaluation marks on the extended questions require a stated judgement, which students routinely omit after writing a strong explanation.

Business Studies

Cambridge 0450 · Edexcel 4BS1

Applied case-study assessment where context carries the marks. The commonest failure is answering with textbook theory and never referring to the business in the stimulus. Calculation questions on costs, revenue and ratios are straightforward marks that get skipped under time pressure.

Computer Science

Cambridge 0478 · Edexcel 4CP0

Systems, data representation, algorithms and programming. Binary, hexadecimal and logic gates are learnable in a small number of sessions and recur every series. Pseudocode tracing by hand is the skill most students lack, because they have learned to run code rather than to predict what it does.

Geography

Cambridge 0460 · Edexcel 4GE1

Physical and human geography with a skills component on maps, graphs and data. Case-study specificity carries the top marks: a named place with named figures beats a general description every time. The skills questions are reliable marks that reward practice rather than revision.

Arabic

First language and additional language, plus MoE-mandated strands

Dubai private schools must deliver Arabic alongside the licensed curriculum, and KHDA requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab pupils because curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. Tutoring splits on the same line: literary and grammatical work for first-language pupils, script fluency and spoken confidence for additional-language pupils.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways Al Barari families run IGCSE tuition with us, all live one-to-one over video on Gulf Standard Time. Which one fits depends on how far into the two years your child is.

Year 10 weekly, built on the specification

One subject, one tutor, a fixed weekly slot from the start of the IGCSE course. The tutor works from the actual syllabus your child sits, by code, and stays roughly a step ahead of the school so that lessons land as consolidation rather than first exposure. This is the mode where a grade is actually built, and it is also the cheapest per grade point because nothing has to be undone.

  • Planned against the specification, not a generic scheme
  • Past-paper questions introduced from the first term
  • Method and units drilled before content gets harder
  • Early warning if the tier entry looks wrong

Year 11 repair after a mock result

The most common booking and the most misunderstood. A mock paper is evidence, not a verdict, and the first session is spent reading it properly: which questions lost marks, whether the losses were content, method or timing. Teaching then follows the mark distribution rather than the syllabus order. Two sessions a week is normal in this mode and the block usually runs to the series.

  • Starts from the marked mock, question by question
  • Topic order set by where marks actually went
  • Timed paper practice every fortnight
  • Honest assessment of what the remaining weeks can reach

Holiday and Ramadan-adjusted blocks

Dubai school holidays allow four or five sessions a week, which closes content gaps that a single weekly slot cannot. The winter break before a Year 11 spring term is the highest-value block in the two years. During Ramadan, sessions move to the earlier afternoon or a post-Iftar slot and run shorter rather than being skipped, because continuity matters more than duration.

  • Four to five sessions a week in school breaks
  • Post-Iftar scheduling available through Ramadan
  • Shorter sessions in preference to missed weeks
  • Best used for whole-topic repair, not technique

Two subjects, one tutor, consecutive slots

Common in Year 11 where maths and one science are both weak. Where a single tutor covers both, the household makes one scheduling decision and the tutor can see that a physics problem is actually a rearranging-equations problem. These remain two separate one-to-one sessions; nothing is taught as a group.

  • Back-to-back individual sessions, not a combined lesson
  • Shared diagnosis across maths and science
  • One slot to protect in the family calendar
  • Usual pairing: 0580 or 4MA1 with 0625 or 0620

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Barari

01

Cambridge or Edexcel: find out before you hire anyone

Two children on the same Al Barari street can both be sitting IGCSE Physics and be sitting different qualifications. Cambridge IGCSE Physics is syllabus 0625. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Physics is 4PH1. The science overlaps heavily; the paper structure, the tiering and the practical-skills treatment do not. A tutor teaching from the wrong specification spends the term covering material that will not be examined while leaving out material that will.

So the first thing to establish is which board, which syllabus code and which tier, and the school's exams officer can tell you all three in one email. It is worth getting this in writing rather than relying on what your child believes, because pupils routinely do not know, and a Year 10 who says 'Cambridge' because the textbook cover looked familiar has cost you nothing until you hire a tutor on that basis.

The tier question is the one with consequences. On Cambridge, Core and Extended are different courses: different papers, different content, and different grade ceilings, so a Core entry caps the achievable grade regardless of performance. Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics tiers as Foundation and Higher with the same logic. If your child is on the lower tier in a subject they need for an A Level or Higher Level course, that is a conversation with the school this term, while the entry can still move.

The table below sets the two boards side by side for the subjects Al Barari families ask about most. Treat it as a structure guide rather than a syllabus: specifications are revised, so check the current one on the board's own site before planning a two-year course around it.

02

The two IGCSE years counted backwards

This is the planning frame nobody in this search result publishes. Entry deadlines sit months before papers are sat, tier decisions close before that, and a resit after results has to be entered for the next series rather than taken at a convenient moment. A family who understands the sequence makes decisions when they are available; a family who does not finds out that a door closed in November.

Work from the end. The June series is the one most Dubai schools enter for, with November available as a resit route. Before the series there is an entry deadline set through the centre, and before that a tier decision that effectively caps the grade. Before that sit the Year 11 mocks, which are your best available evidence and usually the trigger for hiring anyone. Before that is the whole of Year 10, which is where the grade is actually made and where tutoring is cheapest in effort per mark.

The verifiable dates in this picture come from Pearson, and they are worth quoting precisely because they show the scale of the lag. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026. November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Those are backward-looking, which is why they carry dates; for any session still ahead, use the month and check the live official timetable, since Pearson publishes provisional versions that can be revised.

One Cambridge-specific trap belongs here. Every Cambridge centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. Ask the exams officer which zone your child's centre is in before you plan study leave around a timetable you downloaded yourself.

What an IGCSE tutor costs in Dubai, read monthly

Most tutoring pages quote an hourly rate because it sounds smaller. The number that lands in a household budget is monthly, so start there. Market monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session in Dubai, read in October 2026, run around AED 240 to AED 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to AED 1,200 in the mid tier, and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Published package pricing shows around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home visits.

Put that next to the school bill and the decision looks different. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for Dubai private schools for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. So the fee line is flat, and a tutoring line at one session a week is a modest addition to it. Two subjects at two sessions a week through a Year 11 spring term is not modest, and a family should decide that deliberately rather than by drift.

What separates the tiers is specification knowledge. A capable university student in the AED 45 to AED 150 band can help a Year 8 with simultaneous equations. They cannot tell a Year 11 where the Edexcel mark scheme awards method credit on a multi-step mole calculation, because that comes from teaching and marking the paper. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 an hour and IB from AED 200; TutorChase publishes AED 270; the premium band reaches AED 650 at BartyED. Those are their figures, published by them, read in October 2026.

IB Gram does not print an hourly rate here. The honest reason is that the right figure depends on the subject, the tier and how many weeks remain, and one number covering every IGCSE subject would mislead. What we publish instead is the market band above, so any quote you receive from anyone can be checked, plus a free trial lesson so the first hour costs nothing and you judge the tutor rather than the brochure.

Online against a tutor driving to Al Barari

  • In-home market rate AED 180-500 per hour; the premium is travel
  • Online shortlist is everyone who teaches your syllabus code
  • Al Ain Road at peak is a cancellation risk, not a theory
  • In-home suits early primary and pupils needing supervision
  • IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE

The home-tutoring question deserves a straight answer rather than a deflection. In-home one-to-one tuition in Dubai is widely available and market rates run roughly AED 180 to AED 500 an hour including travel. It works, and for some children it is the right format. IB Gram does not offer it in the UAE, and this page is not going to pretend the option does not exist.

What it costs you beyond the rate is selection. An in-home tutor for Al Barari is drawn from the people willing to drive to a villa community off Al Ain Road at five on a weekday and hold that slot every week for a term. For general Year 9 maths that pool is fine. For Extended-tier Chemistry 0620, or Additional Mathematics 0606, or Edexcel Further Pure 4PM1, it is thin, and families end up with a competent generalist instead of someone who knows the paper. Online removes geography from the shortlist and leaves only the question of whether the tutor teaches that specification.

The second cost is reliability, and it is specific to this part of Dubai. A tutor crossing the city in the afternoon peak to reach Al Barari is exposed to Al Ain Road traffic twice. Two cancellations in a Year 11 spring term is two weeks removed from a fixed countdown to the series, and in April that is not recoverable. An online slot fails only if the tutor is ill.

Where in-home genuinely wins is the youngest and the most distractible pupils, where an adult physically present is the intervention. We say that rather than arguing against it, because a family who books the wrong format wastes a term. For Year 10 and Year 11 work, where a session means worked problems and a marked past paper, the screen is not the limitation.

05

Where IGCSE marks are actually lost

Ask a Year 11 what they are weak at and you will get a topic. Mark a paper and you will usually get something else. Across the subjects we cover, a large share of lost marks across the whole paper comes from four habits rather than from missing content, and all four are fixable in a handful of sessions.

The first is method. IGCSE mark schemes award credit for steps, so a correct answer with no working scores below a wrong answer with sound method. Students who do mental arithmetic well are the worst affected, because they have been rewarded for speed for years. The second is units and significant figures, which bleed one mark at a time across every calculation question and add up to a grade boundary. The third is the command term: 'describe', 'explain', 'compare' and 'evaluate' ask for different structures, and writing everything you know satisfies none of them.

The fourth is timing, and it is the most common. A student who knows the material but spends fourteen minutes on a six-mark question will not finish the paper, and unanswered questions score nothing regardless of understanding. This only shows up under real timing, which is why the first session of a Year 11 block is a timed paper rather than teaching. Marking it against the published scheme almost always relocates the problem away from where the family thought it was.

Content gaps are real too, and when they exist they are usually narrow and identifiable: electricity in Physics 0625, moles in Chemistry 0620, inheritance in Biology 0610, algebraic fractions in Mathematics 0580. Those are weeks of work, not months. What takes months is teaching a specification that was never learned, which is why Year 10 tutoring is worth so much more per hour than Year 11 tutoring.

06

MoE equivalency: what five IGCSE subjects have to show

If your child may apply to a UAE university, the Ministry of Education equivalency rules matter more than any league table, and almost no tutoring page in this market mentions them. For the British track, students must submit proof of one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level with the same grade, and must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3.

The detail that catches families out is the exclusion: Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects for the GCSE and IGCSE count. So a child with five passes of which two are Arabic and Islamic Education does not have five for this purpose. At least one competitor page ranking for UAE tutoring searches states that candidates must take six IGCSE subjects, which is not what the published rule says. Count the five, exclude those two, and check the current requirement on the authority's own channel before relying on it.

There is a second trap worth naming. For the American track, English proficiency requires a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test. That is a different track from the British one, and families with children in American-curriculum schools near Al Barari sometimes read British-track numbers and plan against the wrong rule.

For the IB track, this page publishes no points threshold. The source that verifies the British and American requirements does not state one, and no IB figure should be put in front of a parent without being read on the Ministry's own pages or confirmed with the emirate's attestation channel. IB Gram does not perform equivalency or attestation and does not guarantee any outcome in that process; we describe it and point you to the official route.

Regulation: your child's school, and your child's tutor

  • KHDA regulates the school; MoHRE permits the tutor
  • The private tuition permit is free and valid for two years
  • No published fine schedule exists, so distrust quoted amounts
  • No tutoring company is KHDA-approved without a named permit
  • Avoid arrangements involving your child's own class teacher

Two separate regimes apply, and parents routinely conflate them. The school is regulated by the emirate. In Dubai that is KHDA, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, described on u.ae as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate, inspecting annually across six bands from Outstanding to Very Weak. The useful part of an inspection report is not the headline band but the subject-level commentary, which frequently names the exact weakness a parent has been sensing without evidence.

The tutor is regulated federally. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. Anyone offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE is subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time through its app, website and e-services.

No fine figure appears on this page, and you should treat any page that prints one with suspicion. Khaleej Times reported that the ministry did not specify the fine amounts or detail the penalties, and the amount circulating online could not be verified. Equally, IB Gram is not KHDA approved, ADEK approved, or licensed or accredited by the Ministry of Education, Cambridge or Pearson, and nobody should claim otherwise without showing a permit number. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific licence for training institutes operating premises in Dubai.

The practical use of all this is leverage. Ask any tutor three questions before booking: do you hold a MoHRE private tuition permit, which board and syllabus code do you teach, and do you work at a school my child attends. The last one matters because ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar Abu Dhabi school staff from paid private tutoring of their own enrolled pupils, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct carries a similar bar.

08

Coursework, past papers and what we will not do

IGCSE carries less assessed coursework than the Diploma, but the honesty questions still arise, particularly around practical work, controlled assessment where it applies, and the growing market in supplied answers. The position is the same across every subject we teach: a tutor explains, demonstrates, questions and gives feedback on the student's own work. A tutor does not produce work that will be submitted as the student's.

The same boundary applies to materials. We do not publish, reproduce or supply awarding-body syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables as downloads. Those belong to Cambridge and Pearson and reproducing them is copyright infringement. What a tutor does is work through questions with the student from legitimately obtained material and teach them to read the mark scheme themselves, which is a more durable skill than being handed answers.

There is a related claim worth being sceptical about across this market. Several providers describe their tutors as examiners. We do not use examiner status as a selling point for any individual whose current status we cannot evidence, and no tutor should imply that examiner experience gives access to marking, grade boundaries or unseen paper content, because it does not. If a provider leans on that claim, ask what specifically it gives your child that a subject specialist does not.

Finally, no grade promises. We will not tell you that a block of sessions produces a grade 7, a 9, or any specific improvement, and any provider that does is either guessing or guaranteeing something they cannot control. What we will do is tell you after the first diagnostic session what the evidence suggests is reachable in the weeks available, and revise that honestly as mock results come in.

Where we tutor

Where Al Barari IGCSE pupils actually go to school

The communities around Al Barari share schools and roads, and that shared timetable decides when an IGCSE session can realistically start on a weekday.

Al Barari

No school within the community, so every pupil travels out. Weekday sessions start at five or later during term. Families here often run two children at different schools on different release times, which pushes IGCSE revision into the weekend.

Nad Al Sheba

Immediate neighbour and the closest dense school provision, with British-curriculum schools running IGCSE before splitting into A Level or the Diploma. Shortest commute of any cluster from Al Barari, which makes an earlier weekday slot possible.

Arabian Ranches

A mature villa community with established primary and secondary provision. Many Year 11 pupils here have been in the same school since FS1, so a mock dip is usually a topic problem rather than a transition problem, which changes the diagnosis.

Motor City

Large British-curriculum cohort and a correspondingly high IGCSE load. Families here are the most likely to need two subjects tutored at once in Year 11, which is a scheduling and priority question before it is a teaching one.

Dubai Sports City

Training commitments compress the usable evening. Pupils here commonly run holiday intensive blocks rather than term-time weekly sessions, timed to the window before the June series.

Dubai Hills Estate

Mixed IB and British provision within a short drive. Pupils who move between the two systems at Year 10 arrive needing exam-format work rather than content, which is a different first six sessions.

DAMAC Hills

Served by British-curriculum schools inside and beside the community. A longer drive from Al Barari, so cross-community in-home arrangements rarely survive a full term here.

Mudon and Remraam

Schooling spread across the Dubailand periphery with shared transport, so arrival times shift day to day. A fixed online slot absorbs that variation in a way a tutor waiting at a gate cannot.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Barari

Nad Al Sheba and Dubailand

The closest cluster to Al Barari and the one most pupils commute into. It mixes British-curriculum schools running IGCSE with IB continuum schools, so the board a child sits depends on the school rather than the neighbourhood.

  • Repton School Dubai
  • Kent College Dubai
  • GEMS Modern Academy
  • The Aquila School
  • GEMS FirstPoint School, The Villa
  • South View School
  • Dunecrest American School

Motor City, Sports City and Arabian Ranches

The western arc, reachable in a single drive outside peak hours. IGCSE provision here is broad, which is why pupils from one street can be sitting Cambridge and Edexcel versions of the same subject.

  • GEMS Metropole School
  • Victory Heights Primary School
  • Bradenton Preparatory Academy
  • JESS Arabian Ranches
  • Ranches Primary School
  • Jebel Ali School
  • Royal Grammar School Guildford Dubai

These schools are named only as context for the Al Barari school ecosystem; IB Gram claims no affiliation, partnership or endorsement from any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send us the board, the code and the tier

Before anything else we need which awarding body, which syllabus code and which tier your child is entered for in each subject. The school's exams officer can confirm all three. This single email prevents the most expensive mistake in IGCSE tutoring, which is a term spent teaching the wrong specification well.

  2. 02

    One timed paper, marked properly

The diagnostic is a past paper or a recent school assessment worked under timing and marked against the published scheme. The output is a list of lost marks by question type: content, method, units, command term or timing. This frequently disagrees with both your theory and your child's, and that disagreement is the useful part.

  3. 03

A free trial lesson with the named tutor

One full lesson, no charge, taught by the person who would take every session afterwards. Judge whether they know the paper structure for that code, whether they found the real gap, and whether the work they set was clear enough to attempt alone. If any answer is no, tell us and we match again.

  4. 04

A fixed slot planned to the series

The weekly slot is yours for the term, and the plan runs from your child's school calendar and the series they are entered for. Al Barari commutes mean a five o'clock or later weekday start is usual. Holiday weeks become intensive blocks; Ramadan weeks move to earlier afternoon or post-Iftar and shorten rather than stop.

  5. 05

A written note after each session

What was covered, what was got wrong, what is set, what comes next, sent the same evening. This is how you see progress between reports rather than waiting for the school's next one, and it is also the record that shows the work in any assessed task is your child's own.

  6. 06

Re-plan at each piece of evidence

Every mock, report and marked past paper is a checkpoint where the plan is tested against results rather than continued by habit. Sometimes the right answer is to stop in one subject and move the hour to another, and we will say so. A weekly session with no current target is a routine, not a plan.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

We teach the specification your child actually sits

Board, syllabus code and tier are established before the first lesson, and the tutor works from that specification. Cambridge 0625 and Edexcel 4PH1 are not interchangeable, and a tutor who treats them as the same subject will cover content that is not examined while missing content that is.

Year 10 is treated as the cheap year

Most of this page argues for starting earlier, because the effort required per mark rises steeply after a Year 11 mock. We will say that to you even when a later, larger booking would suit us better, because a family who starts in Year 10 and succeeds is a family who comes back for the sixth form.

Specialists chosen by syllabus, not by driving distance

Because the lessons are online, the shortlist is everyone who teaches that code at that tier rather than everyone who will reach Al Barari at five on a Tuesday. For Extended-tier sciences and Additional Mathematics that difference decides whether you get a specialist or a generalist.

Market rates published with their sources

The AED bands on this page are competitors' own published figures with the date they were read, so any quote you receive, including ours, can be judged against something real. Three of the six pages ranking for these searches publish no price at all and one declines to answer its own pricing question.

No supplied answers, no reproduced papers

Tutors teach, question and give feedback on your child's own work, and we do not host or hand over awarding-body papers, mark schemes or boundary tables. Teaching a student to read a mark scheme is worth more than giving them its contents, and it is the only version that is lawful.

Clear about what we are not

No home visits anywhere in the UAE. No special-educational-needs assessment. No guaranteed grades or score promises. No claim of approval, accreditation or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge, Pearson or the IB, because we hold none of them.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Barari: your questions answered

Can IB Gram send an IGCSE tutor to a house in Al Barari?+

No. All UAE tuition is delivered live and one-to-one over video, scheduled to Gulf Standard Time. Home visits are a service we run only in India, and no tutor is sent to any UAE address. The page uses the phrase 'home tutor' because that is what parents search for, and the question deserves a direct answer. The practical trade is in your favour for most IGCSE work: the shortlist becomes every tutor who teaches your child's syllabus code rather than every tutor who will drive to a villa community at five on a weekday.

Which awarding body does an Al Barari pupil's school usually use?+

Email the school's exams officer and ask for the awarding body, the syllabus code and the tier for each subject. Do not rely on what your child says, because pupils often do not know and a textbook cover is not evidence. The codes matter: Cambridge Physics is 0625, Edexcel is 4PH1, and the papers are structured differently. Get it in writing before hiring anyone. A tutor working from the wrong specification can teach very well for a whole term and still leave your child unprepared for the paper they actually sit.

What is the difference between Core and Extended, and can we still change?+

On Cambridge, Core and Extended are different courses with different papers and different grade ceilings, so a Core entry caps the achievable grade however well the paper goes. Edexcel uses Foundation and Higher tiers with the same logic. Whether the entry can change depends on the school and how close the entry deadline is, so ask now rather than after the mock. If your child needs the subject for an A Level or a Higher Level Diploma course, the higher tier is usually a prerequisite rather than an ambition.

Which exam series will my child in Dubai sit?+

Cambridge runs IGCSE in a June series and a November series, and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November. UAE candidates use those. The February and March series is offered to India only, so any UAE page quoting a March exam window is wrong about your country. Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states it is essential to use the correct timetable version for your zone, warning that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one.

My child's Year 11 mock came back badly. How many weeks do we need?+

It depends on whether the losses were content or technique, and the only way to know is to read the paper question by question. If marks went to method, units, command terms and timing, a block of eight to ten weeks at two sessions a week moves a great deal, because those are habits. If half a specification was never understood, the honest answer is that the remaining weeks will lift the grade without reaching the one you hoped for. We will tell you which case you are in after the first session rather than after a term of invoices.

What does IGCSE tutoring cost per month in the Dubailand area?+

Market monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session in Dubai, read in October 2026, run roughly AED 240 to AED 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to AED 1,200 mid tier, and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Published package pricing shows around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits. Those are the market's figures with their sources, not IB Gram prices. Our first lesson is free, so you can judge the tutor before discussing any number.

Is it worth starting IGCSE tutoring in Year 10 rather than waiting?+

Yes, and the argument is arithmetic rather than sales. In Year 10 a tutor consolidates content as the school teaches it, builds method and units discipline before the questions get harder, and can flag a wrong tier entry while it can still change. In Year 11 the same tutor is undoing eighteen months of habit against a fixed deadline. The hourly rate is identical; the marks per hour are not. A family that starts in Year 10 usually needs fewer total sessions to reach the same grade.

How many IGCSE subjects does my child need for a UAE university application?+

For the British track, the Ministry of Education requires five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at no less than grade E or grade 3, plus one subject at Advanced Level at E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five. At least one ranking competitor states six subjects are needed, which does not match the published rule. Verify the current requirement on the Ministry's own channel; IB Gram does not perform or guarantee equivalency or attestation.

Do you cover Additional Mathematics and Further Pure Mathematics?+

Yes. Cambridge Additional Mathematics 0606 and Pearson Further Pure Mathematics 4PM1 are both taught, and they are genuinely different work from the main maths course. They introduce calculus, logarithms and trigonometric identities ahead of A Level or Higher Level Maths AA, and they are where pupils who found 0580 or 4MA1 easy discover the difference between fluency and understanding. Differentiation is usually the point at which a weekly session becomes necessary. Tell us which qualification your child is entered for, because the two specifications are not interchangeable.

Can a tutor supply past papers and mark schemes for my child?+

No, and you should be wary of anyone who offers to. Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables belong to Cambridge and Pearson, and reproducing or distributing them is copyright infringement. What a tutor does instead is work through questions with your child from legitimately obtained material, and teach them to read a mark scheme themselves so they can see where credit is awarded. That skill outlasts any set of answers, and it is the thing that changes how a student approaches the next paper.

How does Ramadan affect a Year 11 revision schedule in Dubai?+

School hours shorten and the usable part of the evening moves, so sessions shift to the earlier afternoon or to a post-Iftar slot. The adjustment we recommend is shorter sessions at the same frequency rather than skipped weeks, because continuity is what holds a revision sequence together. Where Ramadan falls close to the series or a mock window, plan the block before it begins rather than improvising week by week. An online slot is far easier to move than a tutor's drive across Dubai, which is one of the quieter practical advantages of the format.

Are tutors in Dubai required to hold a permit, and should I ask?+

Yes, and yes. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Anyone tutoring without it is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule is published, so treat quoted amounts with suspicion. Ask to see the permit rather than accepting a verbal assurance, and ask the same of any agency.

Why is Arabic compulsory at a British-curriculum school in Dubai?+

Because the emirate requires it. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum. KHDA also requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab pupils in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and prohibits combined classes because curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. Two things follow: the timetable carries subjects beyond the IGCSE list, and Arabic is one of the most requested tutoring streams in Dubai, split along the same first-language and additional-language line.

What should I actually judge a trial lesson on?+

Not whether your child enjoyed it. Three things. Did the tutor demonstrate knowledge of the specific syllabus code and paper structure, rather than the subject in general? Did they locate the real gap, or accept your child's account of it? Was the work set afterwards clear enough to attempt without help at home? If any answer is no, say so and we will match again. One free hour settles the most important variable in tutoring before any money moves, which no published hourly rate can do.

Can one tutor take both maths and a science for the same child?+

Often, and in Year 11 it is frequently the better arrangement. Where the same tutor covers Mathematics 0580 and Physics 0625, they can see that a physics problem is really a rearranging-equations problem, which a second tutor would diagnose as a physics weakness. The sessions remain separate one-to-one lessons in consecutive slots, not a combined lesson. The limit is specialism: at Extended tier in two sciences the right answer is usually two specialists rather than one generalist covering both.

What happens if no tutor is free in our weekday evening slot?+

We tell you which part is the constraint, because the fixes differ. If a specialist for that code and tier exists but not in your slot, a different evening or a weekend morning usually resolves it, and in a community with long commutes that is often easier than it sounds. If the subject is not covered in UAE hours at all, the fallback is a tutor in another time zone teaching at a Gulf Standard Time-compatible hour, and we say where they are based. If we cannot cover it, we tell you that rather than booking you in anyway.

Get the code, then get the calendar

Two emails decide most of this. The first goes to your child's exams officer asking for the awarding body, the syllabus code and the tier in each subject. The second asks for the mock window, the entry deadline and the series the school is entering. With those in hand you know what you are buying and when it has to work by, and you can judge any tutor, including ours, against something concrete. Then book a free trial lesson with the named specialist who would teach every session and see whether they know the paper. Tuition for Al Barari families runs live and one-to-one over video at Gulf Standard Time. We do not make home visits in the UAE and we do not promise grades.
