IB Home Tutor in Al Barari

Looking for an IB home tutor in Al Barari? This page is built around the calendar rather than the sales pitch. Al Barari sits in the Dubailand belt, where most Diploma students are already inside a two-year assessment clock, and the only question that matters is what the remaining weeks can realistically change. IB Gram matches your child to a single specialist and teaches live, one-to-one, over video at Gulf Standard Time.

  • One named tutor per subject, not a rotating pool
  • Lessons run live over video, timed to Gulf Standard Time
  • Free trial lesson before any commitment is made
  • Tutors review the student's own work, never write it

IB & IGCSE in Al Barari

Start with the date, not the tutor

Most parents searching for an IB home tutor in Al Barari start by asking who is available. That is the second question. The first is what date you are working towards, because the IB Diploma is not a course you can rescue at an arbitrary moment — it is a two-year sequence of internal deadlines that your child's school sets, stacked on top of an external exam session the IB sets. A tutor booked in September has a different job from a tutor booked in February, and a tutor booked six weeks before a Paper 1 has a job that is narrower still.

Al Barari families feel this sharply because of where the community sits. It is a low-density villa district off Al Ain Road, surrounded by the Dubailand school belt, and the schools that serve it run on different calendars. A child at an IB continuum school has Middle Years criterion deadlines landing in waves. A child who moved across from a British-curriculum school after IGCSE is in Diploma Year 1 with a Maths and a Science course that assume content their previous syllabus never covered. Both children need help. They need different help, in a different order, and the difference is almost entirely a calendar question.

So this page is organised backwards from the exam. It tells you what a Diploma term has to deliver before the next one begins, where the Internal Assessment deadlines actually bite, how the Cambridge and Pearson series work for UAE candidates taking IGCSE on the way in, and what eight weeks of weekly one-to-one can honestly achieve against what it cannot. It also publishes what tutoring costs in this market in dirhams, with the sources, because three of the six pages currently ranking for this search publish no price at all.

One thing to be clear about before you read further. IB Gram delivers tuition to Al Barari as live, one-to-one online lessons. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE — that is a service we run only in India. The phrase 'home tutor' is what parents type, so it is the phrase this page uses, and the home-tutoring question is answered properly below, with the market rates and the travel arithmetic. But no sentence here promises a tutor at an Al Barari address, because that is not what we do.

What that buys you is a selection problem solved differently. In-home tuition in a villa community means choosing from the tutors who will drive to Al Barari on a Tuesday at 5pm. Online means choosing from the tutors who actually teach Chemistry HL, or Maths: Analysis and Approaches HL, or History HL with the right prescribed subject, and then fitting them into your evening. In a programme where the HL syllabus for one subject is a specialism in itself, that trade is usually worth making.

Everything below is either sourced or marked as market context. Where a figure comes from a regulator, the regulator is named. Where it comes from a competitor's published rate card, the competitor's band is given as the market, not as our price. Where a date could not be verified from the awarding body itself, this page says so rather than printing it.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Al Barari sits within reach of schools running every IB programme, and the tutoring question changes completely between them. These are the four, with what the calendar does to each in a Dubai school year.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

The PYP is organised around transdisciplinary units of inquiry rather than discrete subjects, and it ends with the Grade 5 Exhibition. There are no external exams, so there is no session to count backwards from. What there is instead is a reading and number-fluency baseline that the Middle Years Programme assumes. A child who reaches MYP1 without secure place value, fractions and written fluency spends Year 7 catching up rather than starting.

In Dubai, PYP schools are inspected by KHDA on the same six-band scale as every other private school, and they must also deliver Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies under KHDA's mandatory-subject requirements. For an Al Barari family, the practical consequence is that a Year 5 timetable already carries three subjects outside the PYP framework, and the Arabic strand is where non-Arab pupils most often need support first.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

The MYP assesses against four criteria per subject, each marked out of eight, and reported as a 1-7 grade from criterion totals. There is no paper to revise for, which is why the MYP catches families out. Marks are collected across the year from set tasks, so a weak criterion in October is still sitting in the final grade in June. MYP5 adds the Personal Project, which has its own supervision and process-journal requirements.

Dubai MYP schools near Al Barari typically report criterion grades two or three times a year, which gives you a calendar you can work with: a weak criterion C in Sciences, identified in a November report, has two reporting cycles left to move. Families who treat the MYP report as a summary rather than a scorecard usually discover the problem in MYP5, when the Personal Project is competing for the same evenings.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects across three HL and three SL, plus the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and CAS. The external exams are sat in a single session, but roughly a fifth to a third of each subject grade is already banked before the exam through the Internal Assessment. Students who treat DP1 as a warm-up arrive in DP2 with four IAs outstanding and a mock series in the same term. That is the single most common Diploma failure in Dubai.

UAE schools overwhelmingly enter candidates for the May session, with November available at a small number of centres. IB session and results dates are not published on this page because ibo.org blocks automated checking and an unverified exam date is worse than none — confirm every date with your school's IB coordinator. What is verifiable is the school-side calendar, and that is where a tutor should be planning from.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

The CP pairs at least two DP courses with a career-related study, a reflective project and a personal and professional skills course. It is offered by a small number of UAE schools. Where it is available, the DP courses inside it are assessed identically to the full Diploma, including the Internal Assessment, so subject tutoring for a CP student is the same work at the same standard.

For Dubai families, the CP question is usually an equivalency question: what the Ministry of Education will recognise for a UAE university application. The MoE publishes its requirements by curriculum track, and the IB track figures should be read on moe.gov.ae or confirmed with the emirate's attestation channel rather than taken from a tutoring page, including this one.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the IB subjects Al Barari families ask for most often, with what the assessment actually rewards and where the marks tend to go. A tutor who cannot name the components is not a specialist in the subject.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The algebra-heavy route, with proof, calculus and complex numbers at HL. Marks are lost in Paper 1, the no-calculator paper, where students who can operate a GDC cannot execute by hand. The exploration is 20% at both levels and rewards genuine mathematical processes over presentation.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Statistics, modelling and technology-led methods. Students assume it is the easier course and then meet HL Paper 3, an extended problem-solving paper that rewards sustained reasoning. The commonest loss is statistical interpretation: correct output from the calculator, no explanation of what it means in context.

Physics

HL and SL

Mechanics, waves, electricity and fields, with HL extensions in each. The internal assessment is a single investigation marked on personal engagement, exploration, analysis and evaluation. Paper marks are lost on unit and significant-figure discipline and on explanation questions where a student describes a graph instead of reasoning from a principle.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Structure and reactivity across the current syllabus, with organic mechanisms and energetics as the usual pressure points. HL students lose marks on multi-step calculations where one rounding error propagates. The investigation needs a measurable, controllable variable chosen early, which is the part a tutor can genuinely help with before any data exists.

Biology

HL and SL

Heavy on command-term precision. 'Outline', 'explain' and 'evaluate' carry different mark expectations, and students who write everything they know score below students who answer the verb. Data-based questions in Paper 2 reward reading the axes carefully. The investigation struggles most often on controlled-variable justification.

Economics

HL and SL

Three internal assessment commentaries drawn from published news articles, each tied to a different unit of the syllabus, with a strict word limit. Diagram accuracy is where most marks move: an axis labelled wrongly costs the explanation built on it. HL adds quantitative content and a policy paper that rewards evaluation over description.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 is unseen textual analysis under time pressure, Paper 2 a comparative essay on studied works. The Individual Oral links a global issue to two texts and is internally assessed. Students lose marks by summarising rather than analysing, and by choosing a global issue too broad to anchor in specific passages.

English B

HL and SL

Assessed across receptive, productive and interactive skills. The written assignment at HL and the text-type conventions across both levels are the technical content: a blog, a formal letter and a speech are marked partly on register and format. Students with strong spoken English often underperform on text-type accuracy.

History

HL and SL

Source-based Paper 1 on a prescribed subject, thematic Paper 2, and an HL regional option in Paper 3. The internal assessment is a 2,200-word historical investigation with a formal source-evaluation section. Marks are lost on source provenance, where students summarise content instead of assessing value and limitations.

Business Management

HL and SL

Tools, techniques and theories applied to real organisations. The HL internal assessment is a research project on a real business issue using primary and secondary evidence. Students lose marks by describing a company rather than applying a framework, and by choosing an organisation they cannot gather real evidence about.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Systems fundamentals, computational thinking and a programming solution as the internal assessment, documented through planning, design, development and evaluation records. The solution does not need to be ambitious; it needs a real client and a documented development process. Paper marks are lost on tracing algorithms by hand.

Arabic

Language A and Language B, plus MoE-mandated strands

Dubai private schools must deliver Arabic alongside their licensed curriculum, and KHDA requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab pupils with different curriculum expectations. Tutoring therefore splits along the same line. First-language Arabic work is literary and grammatical; additional-language work is vocabulary, script fluency and spoken confidence.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways Al Barari families run IB tuition with us, all delivered live over video at Gulf Standard Time. The right one is usually decided by where your child sits in the assessment calendar.

Weekly one-to-one through the term

One subject, one tutor, one fixed slot each week for the length of a term. This is the mode that works with the calendar rather than against it: the tutor plans from your child's school assessment schedule, and each session has a named target rather than a general revision aim. It is the only mode in which Internal Assessment process coaching can realistically happen, because an investigation takes weeks of small steps.

  • Same tutor every week, so no restart cost each session
  • Planned against the school's own deadline calendar
  • Written note after each session naming what moved
  • Internal Assessment steps spread across weeks, not crammed

Eight-week intensive before a mock or a session

A fixed block, usually two sessions a week, aimed at a named paper. The work is diagnostic first: a past paper under timing, marked against the published scheme, then topic repair in the order the marks were lost. It will not cover a two-year syllabus and it is not sold as if it will. What eight weeks genuinely moves is technique, command-term response and the three or four topics producing most of the lost marks.

  • Starts with one timed paper, marked before any teaching
  • Topic order set by where marks were actually lost
  • Two sessions a week with set work between them
  • Honest scope: technique and specific topics, not whole syllabi

Holiday and Ramadan-adjusted blocks

Dubai school holidays and the Ramadan timetable both reshape the usable week, and both are planning opportunities rather than obstacles. In holiday periods a family can run four or five sessions a week and cover ground that term-time cannot. During Ramadan, sessions move to post-Iftar slots or to the earlier afternoon, and the session length is usually shortened rather than the frequency reduced.

  • Holiday blocks of four to five sessions a week
  • Post-Iftar scheduling available through Ramadan
  • Shorter sessions rather than skipped weeks
  • Useful for closing a syllabus gap before a new term

Paired siblings in one household

Two children in the same house, different years, same subject area, taught in consecutive slots by the same tutor. This is common in Al Barari villas where an MYP pupil and a Diploma student both need Mathematics. It is not group teaching: each child gets their own one-to-one session. What is shared is the tutor, the continuity and the scheduling block.

  • Back-to-back one-to-one slots, not a shared lesson
  • One tutor holding both children's progress in view
  • Single scheduling decision for the household
  • Common pairing: MYP Mathematics with DP Maths AA or AI

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Barari

01

What 'IB home tutor in Al Barari' actually gets you

An IB home tutor in Al Barari, in the market as it stands, means one of two things. Either a freelance or agency tutor who will drive to your villa and teach at your dining table, charging a rate that includes the drive, or an online specialist who teaches the same hour over live video without the drive. IB Gram is the second. We do not send tutors to UAE homes; that is a service we run only in India, and no part of this page should be read as offering it here.

That is worth saying plainly because the phrase is ambiguous and the ambiguity costs parents money. The in-home premium in Dubai is real and documented: market rates for an in-home one-to-one visit run roughly AED 180 to AED 500 an hour against roughly AED 150 to AED 300 for a qualified subject tutor online, and the gap is travel, not teaching. In a community like Al Barari, set back from Al Ain Road with internal villa roads and no school inside the community, that travel is not trivial. A tutor crossing Dubai at 5pm is budgeting an hour each way, and someone pays for it.

The second cost is less visible and matters more for the Diploma. In-home tuition restricts you to the tutors willing and able to reach Al Barari in your slot. For a general Year 7 Mathematics need, that pool is adequate. For Chemistry HL, or Maths: Analysis and Approaches HL, or History HL with a specific prescribed subject, it is thin, and a family ends up with a capable generalist rather than a subject specialist. Online removes the geography from the selection and leaves only the question of whether the tutor knows the syllabus and the mark scheme.

What you should take from this page, then, is not that online is universally better. It is that for an Al Barari family on a Diploma clock, the specialist you can actually get usually matters more than the room the lesson happens in. The table in the next section puts the two side by side with the figures and the logistics rather than the adjectives.

02

Online against in-home for an Al Barari address

Here is the comparison with numbers in it. The AED figures are market rates collected from published competitor rate cards and from Bestimate's Dubai tutoring cost table, read in October 2026. They describe what the Dubai market charges, not what IB Gram charges — our own pricing starts with a free trial lesson and a consultation rather than a public rate card, because the right number depends on subject, level and how many weeks remain.

Read the travel row first, because it is the one that is specific to Al Barari rather than generic. An in-home tutor arriving for a 5pm session in a villa community off Al Ain Road has crossed Dubai in the afternoon peak. That shows up three ways: in the rate, in the tutor's willingness to hold the slot week after week, and in cancellations. A tutor who cancels twice in a term has cost a Diploma student two weeks of a finite calendar, and in February that is not recoverable.

The pool row is the one that decides Diploma outcomes. A specialist in one HL subject is a narrow thing. There are not many people in Dubai who teach Chemistry HL to examination standard, know where the multi-step calculation marks disappear, and have an unused Tuesday evening within driving distance of Al Barari. There are considerably more who do the first two and will teach over video. That is the whole trade, stated honestly.

What in-home genuinely wins is the youngest pupils and the most distractible ones. A Year 3 child who needs an adult physically present to stay on task is not well served by a screen, and we say so rather than pretending otherwise. For Diploma and upper-MYP work, where the session is a worked problem set and a marked paper, the screen is not the limitation.

The Diploma counted backwards, term by term

This is the section nobody else writes, and it is the reason to read this page rather than a competitor's. The Diploma is not two years of study followed by exams. It is a sequence in which work is permanently banked at intervals, and the intervals are set by your child's school, not by the IB. By the time a Dubai Diploma student reaches the final term, a substantial share of each subject grade is already fixed by Internal Assessment marks submitted months earlier. Tutoring that starts in the final term is working on the remaining fraction.

So the question for an Al Barari parent is not 'should we get a tutor' but 'what does this term have to produce'. In DP1 the answer is usually content security and a chosen IA topic that will survive contact with real data. In the first term of DP2 it is IA drafts and a mock series in the same weeks, which is the single most congested point in the two years. In the final stretch it is papers under timing, marked against published schemes, with topic repair driven by where the marks actually went.

The table below is a planning frame, not a set of IB dates. No IB exam or results date appears on this page: ibo.org returns a block to automated checking, and publishing an unverified exam date to a parent who will act on it is worse than publishing none. Confirm every IB-side date with your school's Diploma coordinator. The school-side milestones, which are the ones a tutor plans against anyway, are what the table describes.

Use it in one specific way. Write your child's own school deadlines into the right-hand column, then count how many weeks sit between today and the nearest one. That number, not a general sense of worry, is what should decide whether you book one session a week or two, and which subject goes first.

04

What eight weeks can honestly achieve

  • Session one is a timed paper, marked before any teaching happens
  • Topic order comes from the mark distribution, not the syllabus order
  • Command-term work is the highest-yield technique repair in the IB
  • Submitted IA marks cannot be changed, only the external papers remain
  • Set work between sessions is where most of the movement happens

Parents in Al Barari frequently arrive eight weeks out from a mock or a paper. It is worth being specific about what that window does and does not do, because the honest answer is more useful than an encouraging one and it is also the answer that sells correctly: families who book with accurate expectations stay for the second block.

Eight weeks of two sessions a week is roughly sixteen taught hours plus set work. That is enough to do three things well. First, diagnose properly: one full past paper under exam timing, marked against the published mark scheme, which almost always relocates the problem. A student who says they are weak at calculus frequently turns out to be losing most marks to unit errors and unanswered command terms. Second, repair the three or four topics producing the largest share of lost marks. Third, fix technique, which in the IB means command-term response, working shown for method marks, and finishing the paper.

What eight weeks does not do is teach a two-year HL syllabus. It does not convert a student who has not met half the content into one who has. And it cannot touch Internal Assessment marks that have already been submitted, which is why a February booking has a smaller ceiling than a September one even with the same tutor and the same effort. None of that is a reason not to start. It is a reason to aim the eight weeks at the marks that are still available rather than at a general sense of improvement.

There is one more thing eight weeks reliably changes, and it is the least measurable: the student stops avoiding the subject. A Diploma student who has been quietly skipping Chemistry revision for a term because they do not know where to start will do the work once someone has broken it into a sequence. That shift usually happens in the first three sessions, and it is often the whole of the gain.

05

What IB tutoring costs in Dubai, and what the money is actually buying

Three of the six pages ranking for this kind of search publish no price at all, and one of them has a frequently asked question that asks the price and then declines to answer it. That is not a reasonable position to take with a parent trying to budget. So here is the market, in dirhams, with the tiers and who charges them, read from published rate cards and rate tables in October 2026.

Start from the monthly figure rather than the hourly one, because that is the number that actually lands in a household budget. Market monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session run around AED 240 to AED 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to AED 1,200 in the mid tier, and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Online monthly packages have been published at around AED 799 for eight sessions; in-home monthly packages at AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour visits. Set against a Dubai private-school fee bill, tutoring at one session a week is a small line; at two sessions a week in an exam year it is not.

What separates the tiers is not enthusiasm, it is syllabus specificity. A university student tutoring at the AED 45 to AED 150 end can almost certainly help a Year 8 pupil with simultaneous equations. They cannot tell a Diploma student where the mark scheme awards method credit in an HL Paper 3 question, because that knowledge comes from teaching and marking the specification. The AED 200 to AED 450 specialist band exists because that knowledge is scarce, and the AED 500 and above band exists because a small number of people combine it with a reputation.

IB Gram does not publish an hourly rate on this page. The honest reason is that the right figure depends on the subject, the level and how many weeks are left, and a single number on a page covering every IB subject would be either misleading or useless. What we do publish is the market band above, so you can tell whether a quote you receive from anyone is normal, and a free trial lesson so that the first hour costs nothing and you can judge the tutor rather than the brochure.

The Cambridge and Pearson calendar, for Diploma students who sat IGCSE first

Many Diploma students in the Dubailand belt came through IGCSE rather than the MYP, and a good number are still sitting an IGCSE or two alongside DP1 or as private candidates. The exam calendar for those qualifications is published, verifiable and routinely misstated, so it is worth getting right on this page.

Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level exams in a June series and a November series. There is also a February and March series, and it is offered to India only — a UAE candidate does not sit it. If you have read otherwise on a tutoring site aimed at UAE parents, that site is wrong, and it is the kind of wrong a family acts on. Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone; Cambridge says it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong zone's timetable. Ask your child's exams officer which zone the centre sits in.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and in November. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026; November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Those are backward-looking citations, which is why they carry their dates. For any session still ahead, use the month and check the live official timetable, because Pearson publishes provisional timetables that can be revised.

The practical point for an Al Barari family is the gap between entry deadlines and exams. Entries close months before papers are sat, and a resit decision taken after results has to be made against the next series rather than the next convenient moment. That is the whole argument for planning backwards: the decisions are not available when you want them, they are available when the calendar says.

KHDA, the mandatory UAE subjects, and what they do to an Al Barari evening

  • KHDA inspects Dubai private schools annually across six bands
  • Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies are compulsory regardless of curriculum
  • Separate Arab and non-Arab classes are required, combined classes prohibited
  • Mandatory-subject time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit
  • No tutoring company is 'KHDA-approved' without a named permit

Dubai private schools are overseen by KHDA, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which u.ae describes as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. KHDA inspects annually on a six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak, and the published report for your child's school is a genuinely useful document — not for the headline band, but for the subject-level commentary, which often names the exact weakness a parent has been sensing without evidence.

The part that affects your week is the mandatory-subject requirement. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are compulsory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum. KHDA requires separate classes by group: for Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, schools must organise separate classes for Arab and non-Arab pupils, and combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because of different curriculum expectations and language of instruction. Standard Arabic is required as the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arab pupils and for Arabic as a first language.

Two consequences follow for tutoring. The first is arithmetic: these subjects occupy timetable hours, so a Diploma student's school day already carries load outside the six Diploma subjects, and the evening available for tutoring is shorter than a parent assumes. KHDA calculates mandatory-subject instructional time on a 40-minute lesson unit and advises a minimum of 25 minutes for any mandatory-subject lesson. The second is that Arabic itself is one of the most requested tutoring streams in Dubai and one almost no competitor page addresses, which is why it appears in the subject grid above.

One caution, stated plainly. IB Gram is not KHDA approved, ADEK approved or licensed by any UAE education authority, and no tutoring provider should tell you otherwise unless it can show you a permit number. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific licence issued to training institutes with premises. We name KHDA here because it governs your child's school and publishes the inspection report you should read, not to borrow its authority.

Academic honesty: what a tutor may do with an IA, EE or TOK essay

This matters more in the UAE IB market than in most, because the search results for Diploma help in this region include operations that sell completed coursework. One of them lists finished Internal Assessments at a published price. That is not tutoring. Submitting it is academic misconduct under IB rules and the consequence falls on the student, not the vendor.

So here is the boundary in plain terms. A tutor may teach the content a piece of coursework rests on. A tutor may explain what each assessment criterion rewards and what the descriptors actually mean. A tutor may discuss whether a research question is viable, whether a method will generate usable data, and whether an argument holds together. A tutor may read the student's own draft and give feedback on it, in the same way a supervising teacher does. A tutor may teach referencing conventions and help a student understand where their sources came from.

A tutor may not write any part of the work. Not a paragraph, not an introduction, not a conclusion, not a rewritten method section. A tutor may not supply a topic to be adopted wholesale, edit a draft into something the student did not produce, or provide data the student did not collect. The test we apply is simple and we will say it to your child directly: if the sentence in the submission is not the student's own, it does not go in. Where a draft needs changing, the tutor says what is wrong and the student makes the change.

There is a practical reason this works in the student's favour as well as an ethical one. IB coursework is marked substantially on process — personal engagement, exploration, the quality of the reflection. Work a student did not do themselves reads exactly like work a student did not do themselves, and the criteria that reward engagement are the ones that collapse first. The students who score well on an IA are the ones who chose a question they could actually investigate, early, and then did the weeks of small steps. That is the thing a tutor is genuinely useful for.

Tutor permits in the UAE, and how to check anyone you hire

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit, and most parents do not know it. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 regarding the introduction of private tuition work permits. The permit is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws.

Two things follow. First, if a tutor tells you a permit is expensive or optional, both halves are wrong: it costs nothing and it is required. MoHRE's own service page is titled 'Issuance of a New Work Permit — Private Tutor Licensing', lists no fee, and gives a two-working-day completion time through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. Second, no fine amount appears on this page, and you should be sceptical of any page that prints one. Khaleej Times reported that the ministry did not specify the fine amounts or detail the penalties; a figure circulating online could not be verified, so we leave it out.

There is a separate rule worth knowing if you have a child in an Abu Dhabi school and family in Al Barari, which is a common Dubai arrangement. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Treat that as press-reported and verify it against the current ADEK document if it matters to your decision. Either way, 'your child's own class teacher, privately' is not an arrangement to go looking for.

The permit regime is also where a parent gets real leverage. Ask any tutor, including ours, three questions: do you hold a MoHRE private tuition permit, which syllabus and board do you teach, and are you employed by a school my child attends. A tutor who answers all three without hesitation is a different proposition from one who changes the subject.

What happens when no specialist is free in your slot

Every tutoring page promises availability. Almost none says what happens when the specific combination a family needs is not available, which is the situation that actually arises. For an Al Barari family wanting Chemistry HL at 6pm on a Wednesday, the honest answer is that the combination of subject, level and slot sometimes does not exist in the current week, and what we do about it is worth stating in advance.

First, we tell you. Not 'we will find someone', but which part is the constraint — the subject at that level, or the time. Those have different fixes. If the subject-level specialist exists but not in your slot, the usual solution is a different evening or a weekend morning, which in a villa community with long commutes is often easier than it sounds. If the specialist does not exist in UAE hours at all, the fallback is a tutor in another time zone teaching at a time that still works at Gulf Standard Time, and we say where they are rather than concealing it behind a local-looking phone number.

Second, we will tell you when the answer is that we are the wrong provider. A child who needs a formal special-educational-needs assessment needs a specialist service, not a subject tutor. A pupil in early primary who cannot sustain attention on a screen is better served by someone physically present, and since we do not offer that in the UAE, the right answer is to say so. Turning that family away costs us a booking and saves them a term.

Third, the free trial exists precisely for this. One lesson, no payment, and the question afterwards is not whether the tutor was pleasant but whether they knew the syllabus, found the actual problem, and set work the student understood. If the answer is no, you have lost an hour. If it is yes, you have the single most important variable in tutoring settled before any money moves, which is more than a published hourly rate can tell you.

Al Barari and the Dubailand communities around it

Al Barari does not sit alone. It sits in a ring of villa communities that share schools, school runs and after-school congestion, and that shared timetable is what decides when a session can start.

Al Barari

Low-density villa plots off Al Ain Road, with no school inside the community itself. Every pupil commutes, which means a 4pm session start is unrealistic on most days and 5pm is the practical floor during term.

Arabian Ranches

Served by Ranches Primary School and JESS Arabian Ranches, which runs the IB Diploma. Families here often have a primary child and a Diploma child on different release times, so one weekday evening slot has to serve two very different workloads.

Arabian Ranches 2

Newer phases with a longer internal drive to the main gates. The practical effect on tutoring is a later realistic start on days with an activity after school, which is why Friday and weekend morning slots fill first in this community.

Arabian Ranches 3

Still filling, with most secondary pupils travelling out to Dubailand or Motor City schools. Diploma students here are commonly in their second school in three years, which makes syllabus-gap diagnosis the first job rather than exam technique.

Dubai Hills Estate

Dense school provision including GEMS International School Al Khail nearby, an IB continuum school. Diploma students from Dubai Hills often arrive with strong MYP criterion habits and underestimate how differently the DP Internal Assessment is marked.

Motor City

GEMS Metropole School anchors the community. A large British-curriculum cohort means many Diploma students here came through IGCSE rather than MYP, and the Maths route decision at DP entry is the recurring question.

Dubai Sports City

Victory Heights Primary and Bradenton Preparatory Academy sit inside the community. Sports commitments compress the usable evening window, and families here are the most likely to run a two-session week in holiday blocks rather than term-time.

DAMAC Hills

Jebel Ali School and Royal Grammar School Guildford Dubai serve the area. The commute out to IB Diploma provision adds travel on both ends of the day, so late-evening or weekend scheduling is standard for Diploma tutoring here.

Town Square

A younger demographic with most pupils at primary or lower secondary. MYP criterion support and Arabic as an additional language are the two most requested streams, well ahead of Diploma subject work.

Mudon

Villa community with schooling spread across Dubailand and Remraam. Shared transport arrangements mean arrival times vary by up to half an hour day to day, which is a scheduling argument for a fixed online slot rather than a tutor waiting at a gate.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Barari

Dubailand and Nad Al Sheba

This is the cluster Al Barari pupils most often commute into. It mixes IB continuum schools with British-curriculum schools that run IGCSE before splitting into A Level or the Diploma, so a single community can have Diploma students on two quite different entry routes.

  • Repton School Dubai
  • Kent College Dubai
  • GEMS Modern Academy
  • The Aquila School
  • Dunecrest American School
  • GEMS FirstPoint School, The Villa
  • South View School

Arabian Ranches, Motor City and Sports City

The western arc of the Dubailand belt, reachable from Al Barari in a single drive outside peak hours. IB Diploma provision here is concentrated in a small number of schools, which is why specialist HL subject coverage is the constraint rather than general tutoring supply.

  • JESS Arabian Ranches
  • Ranches Primary School
  • GEMS Metropole School
  • Victory Heights Primary School
  • Bradenton Preparatory Academy
  • Jebel Ali School
  • Royal Grammar School Guildford Dubai

Al Barsha South and Dubai Hills

Closest dense IB provision to Al Barari. Several schools here run the full continuum from PYP through to the Diploma, so transferring pupils arrive with MYP criterion experience rather than IGCSE grades, and their first Diploma term looks different as a result.

  • GEMS International School Al Khail
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • Safa Community School
  • Repton Al Barsha
  • Dubai Heights Academy
  • Bloom World Academy

Schools are named here as context for the Al Barari school ecosystem only; IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement relationship with any school listed.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the date before the subject

The first question we ask is not what subject but what is the next fixed deadline — a mock window, an IA submission, a school report, a session entry. The number of weeks between now and that date determines everything else: one session a week or two, which subject goes first, and whether the plan is repair or technique.

  2. 02

    A diagnostic that produces evidence

Before teaching starts, the tutor works through a past paper or a set of recent school tasks with your child, under timing where it makes sense. The output is a list of where marks were actually lost by topic and by question type. This regularly disagrees with both the parent's and the student's theory of the problem, which is the point.

  3. 03

Meet the tutor on a free trial lesson

One full lesson, no charge, with the named tutor who would teach every subsequent session. Judge three things: whether they know the syllabus and mark scheme, whether they found the real gap, and whether the work they set afterwards was clear enough for your child to attempt alone. If any answer is no, say so and we match again.

  4. 04

A fixed weekly slot against the school calendar

Once you confirm, the slot is yours for the term and the tutor plans from your child's own school deadlines rather than a generic scheme of work. Al Barari commutes mean we usually set a 5pm or later start on weekdays. Ramadan and holiday weeks are rescheduled rather than skipped, and the session length flexes before the frequency does.

  5. 05

Notes after every session, not a monthly summary

Each session ends with a short written note: what was covered, what the student got wrong, what work is set, and what the next session will do. You read it the same evening. This is also the record that makes Internal Assessment coaching auditable — you can see week by week that the work is the student's own and the tutor's role was feedback.

  6. 06

    Reassess at the next milestone

At each school milestone — a report, a mock result, a returned IA draft — the plan is reviewed against the evidence rather than continued by default. Sometimes that means stopping because the subject is secure, and we will tell you when it does. Continuing a weekly session that no longer has a target is how tutoring becomes a habit instead of a plan.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Planned from the calendar, not from a scheme of work

The whole page you have just read is how the tutoring runs. Your child's own school deadlines go into the plan, and each session has a named target that sits between today and the next fixed date. A tutor working from a generic syllabus order will teach the right content in the wrong month.

One named tutor, not a rotating pool

The same person teaches every session, so nobody spends the first ten minutes rediscovering where the student is. For Internal Assessment work this is not a preference but a requirement: an investigation develops over weeks and a tutor who was not there last week cannot usefully comment on this week's draft.

Specialists chosen by syllabus, not by postcode

Because lessons are online, the selection is made from everyone who teaches that subject at that level, rather than everyone who will drive to Al Barari on a Tuesday. For HL Sciences and Maths AA in particular, that difference is the difference between a specialist and a capable generalist.

Rates you can check against the market

This page publishes the Dubai market bands in dirhams with the sources and the date they were read, so a quote from anyone — us included — can be judged against something. Three of the six pages ranking for this search publish no price at all. We would rather you knew the band than trusted the adjective.

A clear line on coursework

Our tutors teach, explain criteria, discuss viability and give feedback on the student's own drafts. They do not write any part of an IA, Extended Essay or TOK essay, and they will say so to your child. In a market where completed coursework is openly sold, this is the position that keeps a Diploma candidate safe.

Honest about what we do not offer

No home visits anywhere in the UAE. No special-educational-needs assessment. No guaranteed grades, no score promises, and no claim of approval by KHDA, ADEK, the IB or any awarding body, because we hold none. Where we are the wrong provider, the quickest useful thing we can do is tell you.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Barari: your questions answered

Will a tutor be sent to our villa in Al Barari?+

No. IB Gram delivers all UAE tuition as live one-to-one lessons over video, timed to Gulf Standard Time. Home visits are a service we run only in India, and we do not send tutors to any UAE address, Al Barari included. The URL uses the phrase 'home tutor' because that is what parents search for, and the question deserves a direct answer rather than an evasive one. What you get instead is a tutor chosen for the syllabus they teach rather than their driving distance, which for Higher Level subjects usually matters more than the room the lesson happens in.

How many weeks before a Diploma exam is too late to start tutoring in Al Barari?+

It is never too late to gain external paper marks, but the ceiling falls as Internal Assessment marks are submitted. Eight weeks of two sessions a week reliably moves exam technique, command-term response and three or four weak topics. It does not teach a two-year Higher Level syllabus, and it cannot touch an IA mark already sent. Starting in DP1 means the IA is still in play, which is worth a fifth to a third of the subject grade depending on the course. If you are late, aim the weeks at the marks still available rather than at everything.

What does an in-home IB tutor charge in the Dubailand area compared with online?+

Market rates read in October 2026 put an in-home one-to-one visit at roughly AED 180 to AED 500 an hour including travel, against roughly AED 150 to AED 300 for a qualified subject tutor online. Published monthly packages show around AED 799 for eight online sessions against AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits. The premium is the drive, not the teaching. For a villa community off Al Ain Road with no school inside it, that drive crosses Dubai in the afternoon peak, which also shows up as cancellations.

Which schools do Al Barari families usually commute to for the IB Diploma?+

There is no school inside Al Barari itself, so every pupil travels. Diploma provision within a reasonable drive includes JESS Arabian Ranches, GEMS International School Al Khail, Repton School Dubai and GEMS Modern Academy, with further British-curriculum schools nearby that run IGCSE before splitting into A Level or the Diploma. We name these as context for the local school ecosystem only; IB Gram has no affiliation with any of them. Check the current KHDA inspection report for any school you are considering, particularly the subject-level commentary.

Where exactly is the line on Internal Assessment help in Al Barari?+

A tutor can teach the content the investigation rests on, explain what each assessment criterion rewards, discuss whether a research question will generate usable data, and give feedback on the student's own draft. A tutor cannot write any part of it. Not a paragraph, not a method section, not a conclusion. Completed coursework is sold openly in this market and submitting it is academic misconduct that falls on the student. The practical argument is the same as the ethical one: IA criteria reward process and personal engagement, and work the student did not do loses exactly those marks.

Does the Cambridge February and March exam series apply to my child in Dubai?+

No. The February and March series is offered to India only. UAE candidates sit the June series and the November series. If you have read a UAE tutoring page quoting a March exam window or a November entry deadline tied to it, that page is wrong about your country, and it is the kind of error a family acts on. Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and says it is essential to use the correct timetable version for your zone, so ask your child's exams officer which zone the centre sits in before planning study leave.

How does Ramadan change a tutoring schedule in a villa community like Al Barari?+

School hours shorten and the usable evening moves. Most families shift sessions either to the earlier afternoon or to a post-Iftar slot, and the practical adjustment is to shorten the session rather than reduce the number of sessions, because continuity matters more than duration. Where Ramadan falls close to a mock series or an IA deadline, we plan the block before it starts rather than improvising week by week. An online slot is easier to move than a tutor's drive across Dubai, which is one of the quieter advantages of the format.

What is the difference between IB Maths AA and AI for a student entering the Diploma from IGCSE?+

Analysis and Approaches is the algebra and calculus route, with proof and complex numbers at Higher Level and a no-calculator Paper 1 that punishes students who can only operate a graphing calculator. Applications and Interpretation is statistics, modelling and technology-led, with an extended problem-solving Paper 3 at HL that is harder than its reputation. Students arriving from IGCSE often pick by perceived difficulty rather than by the course content or the degree they are aiming at. Check the entry requirements of the universities you are considering before the choice is locked in.

Do private tutors in Dubai need a licence, and how do I check?+

Yes. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Anyone tutoring without it is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule is published, so distrust any page quoting an amount. Ask to see the permit rather than accepting a verbal assurance, and apply the same question to any agency placing a tutor with your family.

Does any Dubai tutoring company hold a KHDA approval we should look for?+

No, and no tutoring provider should tell you it is without showing you a permit number. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific licence issued to training institutes operating premises in Dubai, with initial approval, a completion window and annual renewal. IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson. We name KHDA on this page because it oversees your child's school and publishes the inspection report you should read, not to borrow its authority for ourselves.

What does a KHDA inspection band actually tell me about my child's school?+

KHDA inspects Dubai private schools annually across six bands from Outstanding to Very Weak. The band itself is a blunt instrument; the useful content is the subject-level and phase-level commentary inside the report, which often names the exact weakness a parent has been sensing without evidence. If the report says attainment in secondary Mathematics is below expectation while everything else is strong, that is a more actionable sentence than the overall rating. Read the current report for the school before deciding whether a subject problem is your child's or the department's.

Why is Arabic on the timetable when the school is licensed for the IB?+

Because Dubai requires it. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are compulsory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum. KHDA also requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab pupils in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and prohibits combined classes because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. Two things follow for you: the school day already carries load beyond the six Diploma subjects, and Arabic is itself one of the most requested tutoring streams in Dubai, split along the same first-language and additional-language line.

My child is in MYP5 and the Personal Project is competing with everything else. What should we do first?+

Deal with the Personal Project process before the content. It is assessed on planning, applying skills and reflecting, and the process journal is where most of the available marks quietly sit. Students lose them by doing the project and then writing the journal afterwards. A tutor's useful role is to set a weekly cadence of small documented steps and to check the product criteria are actually addressed. Subject criterion repair can run alongside it, but if the evening has to be split, the project deadline is the fixed one and the criterion grade has another reporting cycle.

What happens if there is no Higher Level specialist free in our Al Barari evening slot?+

We tell you which part is the constraint, because the fixes differ. If the specialist exists but not in your slot, a different evening or a weekend morning usually resolves it, and in a community with long commutes that is often easier than it sounds. If the subject at that level is not covered in UAE hours at all, the fallback is a tutor in another time zone teaching at a Gulf Standard Time-compatible slot, and we tell you where they are based rather than hiding it behind a local-looking number. If we genuinely cannot cover it, we say so.

Is a free trial lesson really free, and what should I judge it on?+

One full lesson, no payment, no card required. Judge it on three things rather than on whether your child liked the tutor. Did the tutor demonstrate they know the syllabus and the mark scheme for that specific course and level? Did they locate the actual gap rather than accepting your child's account of it? Was the work set afterwards clear enough to attempt without help? If any answer is no, tell us and we match again. That single hour settles the most important variable in tutoring before any money moves.

How many sessions a week do Al Barari Diploma families usually start with?+

One session a week per subject through DP1, moving to two in the term before a mock series or the exam session. Holiday periods are the exception worth planning for: four or five sessions a week in a school break can close a syllabus gap that term-time cannot touch, and the summer between DP1 and DP2 is the last uncongested block in the two years. More than two sessions a week in term time usually means the evening is overloaded rather than the tutoring is working, and we will say so.

Count the weeks, then book the trial

If you take one thing from this page, make it the arithmetic. Find the next fixed date in your child's Diploma calendar — a mock window, an Internal Assessment submission, a report, a session entry — and count the weeks between now and it. That number decides whether you need one session a week or two, which subject goes first, and whether the plan is content repair or paper technique. Then book a free trial lesson with the named specialist who would teach every session, and judge them on whether they knew the syllabus and found the real gap. Lessons for Al Barari families run live and one-to-one over video at Gulf Standard Time. We do not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE, and we will not promise a grade.
