IGCSE Science Tutor in Al Barari

Hiring an IGCSE science tutor in Al Barari starts with a question many families cannot answer: which science award is your child actually entered for, and which papers does it set? Separate sciences, Combined, Co-ordinated and Double Award are four different qualifications with different papers. Al Barari pupils commute to schools using both awarding bodies. IB Gram teaches one-to-one, live over video.

  • Matched to the award, the syllabus code and the tier
  • Practical and alternative-to-practical papers taught explicitly
  • Mark-scheme traps drilled science by science
  • First lesson free with the tutor who would continue

IB & IGCSE in Al Barari

Four different science awards, and the papers are not the same

The phrase 'IGCSE science' covers at least four distinct qualifications, and a parent who does not know which one their child sits cannot hire the right tutor. A pupil may be taking three separate sciences, each as its own IGCSE. They may be taking Cambridge Combined Science, which is a single award covering all three. They may be taking Cambridge Co-ordinated Science, which is a double award. Or they may be on the Pearson Edexcel Science Double Award. The content differs, the papers differ, and the grade is reported differently.

The papers are where the difference bites. Cambridge sciences set a multiple-choice paper and a theory paper matched to the tier, plus either a practical test or an alternative-to-practical written paper. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE sciences set two written papers with no separate practical paper, assessing practical skills inside them instead. A tutor who has prepared candidates for one has never had to prepare anyone for the other's structure, and the student finds out in a mock.

In Al Barari this risk is live rather than theoretical. There is no school inside the community, so pupils commute out — north to Nad Al Sheba, west towards Motor City and the Arabian Ranches, or deeper into Dubailand. Those schools do not all use the same awarding body or the same award. Two children from neighbouring villas can both be revising 'IGCSE Physics' and be revising for different papers, and a tutor shared between them is preparing one of them incorrectly.

The second thing to establish is the tier. Cambridge sciences tier as Core and Extended with different papers and different grade ceilings; a Core entry caps the grade regardless of performance. Edexcel sciences are untiered in most subjects but the Double Award and separate awards differ in content volume. If your child needs a science for A Level or for IB Higher Level, the higher tier is effectively a prerequisite rather than an ambition, and the entry decision is usually made in Year 10.

So this page sets out the awards and their papers, the practical and alternative-to-practical question, the mark-scheme traps in each of the three sciences, a past-paper routine that works in a commuting household, and the Dubai market rates in dirhams with their sources. It is deliberately specific: the competitors ranking for this search between them name almost no syllabus codes at all.

One fact stated plainly. IB Gram delivers science tuition to Al Barari as live one-to-one lessons over video, scheduled to Gulf Standard Time. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. Practical work happens in your child's school laboratory and no tutor substitutes for that in any format, which is addressed honestly further down this page.

At a glance

  • Separate, Combined, Co-ordinated and Double Award are four qualifications
  • Cambridge sets a practical test or an alternative-to-practical paper
  • Edexcel assesses practical skills inside the written papers instead
  • Cambridge Core entries cap the grade that can be awarded
  • Market science tutoring in Dubai runs from roughly AED 150 an hour online
  • Lessons are online only; IB Gram makes no UAE home visits
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

An IGCSE science tutor is wanted at one of four points, and the work differs at each. These are the stages, with what each one leaves unprepared.

KS3Ages 13-14

Year 9, before the award is chosen

The point at which separate sciences or a combined route is decided, often without the family realising a decision is being made. Work here is written explanation and basic quantitative handling — rearranging, units, standard form — because the IGCSE specifications assume both and teach neither.

In Dubai this coincides with option choices. The question worth asking the school is which award each sixth-form science route requires, since separate sciences are commonly expected for A Level and IB Higher Level sciences while a combined award may not be sufficient.

Y10Ages 14-15

Year 10, learning the specification

The year the grade is made. A tutor consolidates each topic as the school teaches it, builds command-term and unit discipline, and introduces past-paper questions early so the paper format is familiar long before a mock. Practical and alternative-to-practical skills can be built here rather than crammed.

Al Barari commutes put the realistic weekday start at five o'clock, so many families here use a weekend morning. Dubai school breaks also allow four or five sessions a week, which is the practical way to cover a science that was started late.

Y11Ages 15-16

Year 11, after the mocks

The most common booking. The first session reads the marked mock paper by paper, because in Cambridge sciences the losses are often concentrated in one of the three papers rather than spread. Teaching then follows the mark distribution. Two sessions a week to the series is typical with one timed paper a fortnight.

The series matters. Cambridge runs June and November for UAE candidates and Pearson Edexcel runs May/June and November, with entries closing months in advance through the centre. The November 2026 Edexcel final timetable ran to 19 November 2026.

Post16Ages 16-17

Into A Level or IB sciences

A Level and IB Higher Level sciences assume separate-science content and a level of quantitative fluency that a comfortable combined pass does not demonstrate. A bridging block in the summer after IGCSE is the cheapest intervention available and the one almost nobody books.

Schools near Al Barari split at sixteen into A Levels, the IB Diploma or both. Either route rewards having taken separate sciences at the higher tier, and a pupil who took a combined award and intends to continue should plan a bridging block before Year 12 begins.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the IGCSE science topics Al Barari families ask about, with the mark-scheme trap attached to each. The traps repeat across both awarding bodies, which is why this list is by content rather than by syllabus.

Electricity and circuits

Physics 0625 and 4PH1

Current, potential difference, resistance, series and parallel circuits. The reliable weak point in every cohort because circuit reasoning requires holding three relationships together rather than recalling one. Marks go to candidates who state which quantity is constant in a given arrangement before calculating anything.

Forces and motion

Physics 0625 and 4PH1

Speed, acceleration, Newton's laws and momentum. Graph questions are routinely lost by candidates who read a value off correctly and then cannot say what the gradient or the area under the line physically represents, which is where the explanation marks sit.

Waves and sound

Physics 0625 and 4PH1

Reflection, refraction, the wave equation and sound. Refraction questions reward drawing the normal first; candidates who measure from the surface lose the whole question. Ray diagrams are marked on construction lines as much as on the final image position.

Moles and stoichiometry

Chemistry 0620 and 4CH1

The topic that decides the chemistry grade, because it recurs through titration, yield and gas-volume questions and compounds. Unit discipline between moles per cubic decimetre and per cubic centimetre costs more marks across a paper than any conceptual gap does.

Qualitative analysis

Chemistry 0620 and 4CH1

Tests for cations, anions and gases, with observations and conclusions. Pure learned content and the cheapest marks on the paper, and reliably skipped in revision because it feels like memorisation rather than understanding. Two sessions secures it for the whole series.

Organic chemistry and rates

Chemistry 0620 and 4CH1

Homologous series, reactions of alkanes and alkenes, and factors affecting rate. Rate questions want collision-frequency reasoning, not a restatement of the trend. Candidates lose marks describing what happens to the rate rather than explaining why particles collide more often.

Transport and respiration

Biology 0610 and 4BI1

Circulatory and transport systems, gas exchange, aerobic and anaerobic respiration. Marks go to precise terminology: diffusion, osmosis and active transport are distinguished in the mark scheme and conflated by candidates under time pressure.

Inheritance and variation

Biology 0610 and 4BI1

Genetic crosses, inheritance patterns and variation. The topic most improved by a single technique change: drawing the cross rather than reasoning in prose. Candidates who attempt a verbal answer lose the method marks even when the ratio they state is correct.

Enzymes and photosynthesis

Biology 0610 and 4BI1

Enzyme action, limiting factors and the practical work attached to both. These topics generate most of the data-interpretation questions, and candidates lose marks describing a graph rather than explaining the limiting factor that produced its shape.

Experimental skills and investigations

Cambridge Papers 5 and 6; assessed within Edexcel written papers

Variables, controls, repeat readings, anomalies, apparatus choice and sources of error. The most predictable paper in Cambridge sciences and the least revised. Naming the controlled variable and justifying a repeat is a learnable formula that earns marks every series.

Calculations and units across the sciences

All science syllabuses

Rearranging, standard form, significant figures and unit conversion. A science problem is frequently a mathematics problem in disguise, which is why a science diagnostic has to test the quantitative handling separately from the content.

Command terms in science answers

All science syllabuses

'State', 'describe', 'explain', 'suggest' and 'compare' carry different mark expectations. Teaching a candidate to answer the verb recovers marks across every topic simultaneously, which makes it the highest-yield single intervention in IGCSE science.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways Al Barari families run IGCSE science with us, all live one-to-one over video on Gulf Standard Time. Which fits depends on the award, the tier and how many of the three sciences need attention.

One science weekly, tracking the specification

One tutor, one protected slot, working from the actual syllabus code and award your child sits and staying a step ahead of the school. Practical-skills work is built in from the first term rather than crammed, which matters where the award sets a separate practical or alternative-to-practical paper.

  • Planned from the specification, award and tier
  • Practical-skills questions used from the first term
  • Problem set between sessions, marked in the next
  • Written note the same evening after each lesson

Paper-specific blocks

In Cambridge sciences the losses are usually concentrated in one paper rather than spread across the subject. A block aimed at the alternative-to-practical paper drills variables, controls, anomalies and apparatus choice. A block aimed at the theory paper drills command terms and multi-step calculation with working shown.

  • Diagnosis by paper, not by subject
  • Alternative-to-practical treated as its own skill set
  • Command-term practice drawn from across the syllabus
  • One full timed paper every fortnight

Two sciences, consecutive slots, one tutor

Common in Year 11 where physics and chemistry are both weak, and often better than two separate tutors because the shared cause is frequently quantitative. A tutor seeing both will recognise that a physics difficulty and a chemistry difficulty are the same rearranging problem. Still two individual lessons.

  • Back-to-back one-to-one sessions, never a group
  • Shared diagnosis of the quantitative handling
  • One block to protect in the household calendar
  • Usual pairing: 0625 with 0620, or 4PH1 with 4CH1

Holiday and Ramadan-adjusted blocks

Dubai school breaks allow four or five sessions a week, which is the practical way to cover a science that fell behind. Practical-skills work and qualitative analysis both suit a concentrated block. Ramadan sessions move to the earlier afternoon or post-Iftar and shorten rather than stop.

  • Four to five sessions a week in school breaks
  • Good for qualitative analysis and practical skills
  • Post-Iftar scheduling available in Ramadan
  • Shorter sessions in preference to skipped weeks

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Barari

01

Which award, which code, which papers

Before hiring anyone, establish three things in writing from the school's exams officer: the awarding body, the syllabus code, and the tier. In the sciences a fourth matters too — which award. Separate sciences means three IGCSEs with three sets of papers. Cambridge Combined Science 0653 is a single award. Cambridge Co-ordinated Science 0654 is a double award. The Pearson Edexcel Science Double Award 4SD0 is a different double award again. Each reports differently and sets a different volume of content.

This is not pedantry. A pupil on a combined award is covering reduced content in each science but is still examined with the same command-term precision and the same calculation discipline, which is the thing that catches families out: they are told the course is lighter and conclude it is easier. It is lighter in volume and identical in standard. Meanwhile a pupil on separate sciences at the Extended tier is covering substantially more and needs more tutoring hours per science, not fewer.

The paper structure is the clearest practical difference between the boards. Cambridge sciences set a multiple-choice paper and a theory paper matched to the tier, and then either a practical test or an alternative-to-practical written paper, depending on what the centre enters. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE sciences set two written papers and assess practical skills within them. A tutor who has only ever prepared Edexcel candidates has never taught an alternative-to-practical paper, and will not instinctively build those skills into a Year 10 plan.

Specifications are revised, so check the current one for your child's series on the awarding body's own site rather than relying on any description including this one. The table sets the structures side by side as a planning guide and as a list of the questions to put to the exams officer.

The practical papers, and what a tutor can do about them

  • Ask whether the centre enters the practical test or the alternative-to-practical paper
  • Edexcel sciences have no separate practical paper
  • Alternative-to-practical questions follow a learnable formula
  • Variables, repeats, anomalies and apparatus resolution are reliable marks
  • Apparatus familiarity comes from school; no tutor substitutes for it

This is the part of IGCSE science that online tutoring is most often challenged on, so it deserves a precise answer. In Cambridge sciences a candidate sits either a practical test, conducted in the school laboratory under exam conditions, or an alternative-to-practical written paper in which experimental skills are examined on paper. Which one depends on what the centre enters, so ask. In Pearson Edexcel International GCSE sciences there is no separate practical paper; experimental skills appear inside the two written papers.

For the alternative-to-practical paper and for practical-skills questions in written papers, a tutor is not disadvantaged by being on a screen at all. These papers examine a learnable formula: identifying the independent, dependent and controlled variables; justifying repeat readings; spotting and handling an anomaly; choosing apparatus with an appropriate resolution; naming a specific source of error rather than saying 'human error'; and reading a scale or a graph accurately. Those are question types, and they are the most predictable marks in the whole subject. They are also, consistently, the least revised.

For the practical test, the laboratory work is the school's and the tutor's contribution is preparation rather than substitution. A candidate who knows before walking in that they will be asked to record readings to a consistent precision, to tabulate with units in the headings, and to plot with a sensible scale will score better than one discovering those expectations during the exam. That preparation is talk, worked examples and marked practice, all of which happen fine over video.

What a screen genuinely cannot provide is apparatus familiarity: the feel of a burette, what a reaction looks like when it has failed, how a thermometer actually behaves. Your child's school provides that, and we will not pretend otherwise. We also do not offer in-home tuition anywhere in the UAE, so if a family wants someone physically present for science, the right provider is one who offers that and it is not us in this country.

03

The mark-scheme traps, science by science

Mark papers rather than asking students and the same traps appear every series. They are specific and nameable, which makes them teachable, and most pupils have never had them pointed out because school teaching covers content under time pressure and leaves technique to look after itself.

In physics, the first trap is describing a graph instead of reasoning from a principle. A candidate who writes that the current increases has answered a 'describe' question when the verb was 'explain'. The second is refraction and ray diagrams, where marks attach to construction lines and to measuring from the normal rather than the surface. The third is the wave equation and unit prefixes, where kilohertz and megahertz quietly cost a mark each time.

In chemistry, the dominant trap is concentration units, which decide more questions than understanding does. The second is multi-step calculation with no working: mark schemes credit the steps, so a student who shows nothing loses the whole question when an early rounding choice compounds. The third is rate questions answered by restating the trend rather than explaining collision frequency. Qualitative analysis sits alongside all three as the cheapest unrevised marks on the paper.

In biology, the traps are linguistic. Diffusion, osmosis and active transport are distinguished in the mark scheme and conflated by candidates under pressure. Inheritance questions want the cross drawn, not reasoned in prose, and candidates who state a correct ratio without the cross lose the method marks. Data-interpretation questions on enzymes and photosynthesis want the limiting factor that produced the graph's shape, not a description of the shape. Each of those is a session, and together they are often worth more than another month of content revision.

A past-paper routine that fits a commuting household

The most common reason science tutoring underperforms is not the teaching. It is that the work between sessions does not get done, and in a household where a pupil is home at five after a commute there is a real reason for that. So the routine has to fit the week that exists.

What works is short, timed and marked. One past-paper question set per science per week under a clock, rather than an hour of open revision. Timing is the operative constraint: a candidate who spends fourteen minutes on a six-mark question will not finish, and unanswered questions score nothing regardless of understanding. Twenty-five minutes with a clock running teaches more than ninety minutes without one, and it fits into an evening that starts late.

The second element is marking against the published scheme rather than against a sense of whether the answer looked right. This is the habit that changes results, because it shows a student where credit actually sits: a named variable, a unit, a construction line, a stated comparison. Candidates who learn to read a mark scheme start writing for the marker instead of writing what they know, and in science that shift alone is often worth a grade.

The third is sequencing by paper rather than by topic. In Cambridge sciences the losses are frequently concentrated in one paper — very often the alternative-to-practical, because nobody revised it — and a term spent on theory content will not touch that. Mark the mock paper by paper before deciding what to revise. In a household with limited evening hours, that ordering is the difference between a term that moves a grade and a term that confirms one.

05

Two sciences, one evening: how to prioritise

  • Look for a shared quantitative cause before planning two programmes
  • One tutor across two sciences can spot the common algebra problem
  • Prioritise by distance from the boundary, not by severity
  • Three weekly science sessions in term time is too many
  • Sequence across term and holidays rather than running in parallel

Al Barari families frequently need two sciences supported at once in Year 11, and the evening does not stretch. The question is how to allocate a limited number of hours, and the answer is usually not to split them evenly.

Start by finding the shared cause. Where physics and chemistry are both weak, the common factor is often quantitative: rearranging, standard form, units and significant figures. One tutor covering both will see that the physics difficulty and the chemistry difficulty are the same algebra problem, whereas two separate tutors will each diagnose within their own subject and both teach content. A short block on the quantitative handling can lift both sciences at once, which is better value than two parallel content programmes.

Where the causes genuinely differ, prioritise by distance from the grade boundary rather than by weakness. A science sitting two marks below a boundary repays an hour far better than one sitting fifteen below, and the marked mock tells you which is which. It feels counterintuitive to spend the time on the stronger subject, and it is usually the right call when the goal is the overall profile rather than fixing the thing that worries the student most.

Where three sciences all need attention, the honest answer is that term-time cannot absorb it. Sequence them: one science weekly in term and the others covered in a holiday block, then rotate. Three weekly sessions plus school homework produces a pupil too tired to complete the set work, and the set work is where the improvement happens. We will say this rather than take the larger booking, because an exhausted candidate does not improve and the family concludes tutoring does not work.

06

What IGCSE science tutoring costs here

Three of the six pages ranking for this type of search publish no price at all, and one asks the pricing question in its own FAQ and declines to answer it. So here are the market bands with their sources, read in October 2026: EdFlik from AED 45 to AED 65 an hour, Tutopiya from AED 33 to AED 52, Unitors from AED 150 for IGCSE, TutorChase at AED 270, BartyED at AED 650. Bestimate's Dubai table puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to AED 350 and IB or IGCSE specialists at AED 200 to AED 450 and above.

Monthly, at one session a week, market estimates run roughly AED 240 to AED 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to AED 1,200 mid tier, and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Published packages show around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions against AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits — roughly double the money for half the sessions, with the premium going to travel rather than teaching.

In science the figure to think about is per subject, because that is how the commitment actually scales. Two sciences at one session a week each at the mid band is AED 1,200 to AED 2,400 a month, which is a materially different decision from one. That arithmetic is the strongest argument for the prioritisation section above: finding a shared quantitative cause and treating it once is cheaper than running two parallel programmes, and frequently works better.

For context, KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for Dubai private schools for the 2026-27 academic year under the emirate's second economic incentives package, valued at AED 1.5 billion. The school bill is flat; tutoring is the variable line. IB Gram publishes no hourly rate here because the right figure depends on award, tier, how many sciences and how many weeks remain, but the band above lets you judge any quote including ours, and the first lesson is free.

Permits, papers and the limits of what we supply

  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free and valid for two years
  • University students and 15-to-18-year-olds are explicitly eligible
  • No fine schedule is published; distrust any quoted figure
  • We do not distribute awarding-body papers or mark schemes
  • No examiner claims we cannot evidence, and no grade guarantees

In a villa community this size a science tutor usually arrives by referral from another family, and that is exactly the route which skips the one check worth making. Private tutoring in the UAE is permit-regulated and most Dubai parents have not been told. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. The categories allowed to hold it are broad enough to cover almost anyone a neighbour would recommend: teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. Anyone offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE is subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. So the question to put to a recommended Chemistry tutor is not how many Al Barari families they already teach, but whether their permit is current.

MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time through its smart app, website and e-services system, so a tutor who says the permit is costly or optional is wrong twice. No fine amount appears on this page: Khaleej Times reported that the ministry did not specify the fine amounts or detail the penalties, and the figure circulating online could not be verified. IB Gram is also not approved, accredited or licensed by KHDA, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge or Pearson, and nobody in this market should imply such a thing without a permit number.

On materials, the limit is firm. Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables belong to Cambridge and Pearson, and reproducing or distributing them is copyright infringement. A tutor works through questions from legitimately obtained material and teaches the candidate to read a mark scheme themselves, which is more durable: a student who understands where credit is awarded writes differently on the next paper, while one handed answers does not.

Two further claims to treat sceptically. Examiner status, which we do not use as a selling point for anyone whose current status cannot be evidenced and which gives no access to marking, boundaries or unseen papers. And grade guarantees, which we will not offer because nobody controls the outcome. What we will give you after a marked diagnostic is a categorised account of where the marks are going, paper by paper, and an honest view of which categories the remaining weeks can close.

08

Bridging into A Level and IB sciences

The summer after IGCSE is the most underused tutoring window in a school career, and in the sciences it is worth more than in any other subject area. A Level sciences and IB Higher Level sciences both begin at pace, and both assume quantitative fluency and extended-writing ability that a comfortable IGCSE pass does not demonstrate.

The specific gaps are predictable. In physics, the Diploma and A Level both treat fields and rates with a mathematical depth that IGCSE does not approach, and students arrive able to use equations without reasoning from relationships. In chemistry, organic work shifts from product recall to mechanism reasoning, and energetics becomes quantitative where IGCSE left it descriptive. In biology, the volume of precise terminology rises sharply and the assessment rewards extended explanation rather than short answers.

The second predictable gap is practical and investigative. Both A Level and the IB Diploma require individual investigative work assessed against criteria, and an IGCSE candidate who only ever sat an alternative-to-practical paper has never designed anything. Teaching variables, controls, uncertainty and evaluation before Year 12 begins means the student's first investigation is not also their first attempt at the skills it requires.

Six to eight sessions across a summer covers most of this, which is a small commitment against a two-year course. Where the pupil took a combined award rather than separate sciences and intends to continue, the block matters more and should be longer, because the content gap is genuine rather than a matter of pace. Ask the school directly what their sixth form expects, since separate sciences at the higher tier are commonly assumed.

Where we tutor

Al Barari and the communities that share its schools

These communities feed the same school clusters as Al Barari, using both awarding bodies and all four science awards. That mix is why a local recommendation needs checking before it is accepted.

Al Barari

Villa plots off Al Ain Road with no school inside, so every pupil commutes and the award depends entirely on the school. Weekday sessions begin realistically at five, which matters for science because quantitative work suffers from a tired start.

Nad Al Sheba

The nearest dense provision and the shortest commute of the group, so an earlier weekday slot is genuinely possible here. Mixed British and IB provision means both awarding bodies appear within a short radius.

Arabian Ranches

A mature community where many pupils have attended one school throughout, so recommendations between neighbours are more reliable here than elsewhere in the belt. A mock dip usually points to one paper rather than the subject.

Motor City

Predominantly British curriculum with a heavy IGCSE load, and the community most likely to need two sciences tutored at once in Year 11, which is a prioritisation decision before it is a teaching one.

Dubai Sports City

Training commitments compress the evening, so science here is more often run as a holiday intensive block than as a term-time weekly slot. Practical-skills work fits well into a holiday block.

Dubai Hills Estate

Mixed IB and British provision within a short drive. Pupils moving between systems at Year 10 need paper-format work before content work, particularly on the practical papers they may never have met.

DAMAC Hills

British-curriculum schools inside and beside the community, but a long enough drive from Al Barari that a shared in-home science tutor rarely survives a full term.

Mudon and Remraam

Schooling spread across the Dubailand periphery with shared transport, so arrival times shift day to day. A fixed online slot absorbs that variation; a tutor at a gate does not.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Barari

Nad Al Sheba and Dubailand

The nearest cluster and the usual destination for Al Barari pupils, mixing British-curriculum schools sitting IGCSE with IB continuum schools. Both awarding bodies and several science awards appear within a few kilometres.

  1. 01

Establish the award, the code and the papers

Email the exams officer for the awarding body, the syllabus code, the tier and which award your child sits, plus whether the centre enters the practical test or the alternative-to-practical paper. In the sciences those four answers determine the whole plan, and most families have never been asked for them.

  2. 02

Mark the mock paper by paper

The diagnostic reads the marked mock separately for each paper, because in Cambridge sciences losses are often concentrated in one of them rather than spread. Very often it is the alternative-to-practical paper, because nobody revised it, and a term of theory revision would not have touched it.

  3. 03

A free first lesson with the named tutor

One full lesson, no charge, with the person who would continue. Ask them which papers your child's award sets and how practical skills are assessed on that board. A specialist answers instantly. Then watch whether they find the real losses and set work your child can attempt alone.

  4. 04

Choose a slot where calculation is reliable

From Al Barari the realistic weekday start is five o'clock after the commute, and quantitative science work suffers more from tiredness than content recall does. Many families here run a weekend morning for timed papers and calculation and a shorter weekday slot for content and terminology.

  5. 05

Short timed sets out, marked back

One past-paper question set per science per week under a clock, marked against the published scheme at the start of the next session. Timing is what exposes the problem and the mark scheme is what fixes it. The written note records what was set, whether it came back and what the next set targets.

  6. 06

Reassess by paper at each mock

Each mock is a checkpoint tested by paper rather than by subject, so the plan follows evidence rather than habit. If one science has moved and another has not, the hours get reallocated. If a science is secure we will say so and stop, rather than rolling a weekly session forward with no target.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched to the award, not just the subject

Separate, Combined, Co-ordinated and Double Award are four different qualifications with different papers, and we establish which one your child sits before the first lesson. In a neighbourhood feeding several school clusters on two awarding bodies, that single step prevents the commonest failure in science tutoring.

Practical papers taught as their own skill

Variables, repeats, anomalies, apparatus resolution and specific sources of error follow a learnable formula and are the most predictable marks in the subject. They are also the least revised, which is why the alternative-to-practical paper so often carries the concentrated losses in a Cambridge mock.

Diagnosis by paper rather than by subject

A single science grade hides where the marks went. We mark a mock paper by paper, because a term spent revising theory content will not touch a loss that was concentrated in the practical-skills paper, and that is the most common misallocation of revision time in IGCSE science.

Honest about two and three sciences

Three weekly science sessions in term time produces a pupil too tired to do the set work. We will say so and propose sequencing across term and holidays instead, which is a smaller booking and a better outcome. We also test for a shared quantitative cause before running two parallel programmes.

Rates published with their sources

The dirham figures here are competitors' own published numbers with the month they were read, and the page shows how the commitment scales per science. Three of the six pages ranking for these searches publish no price at all, and one declines to answer its own pricing question.

Clear about the limits

Practical work stays at school. No home visits in the UAE. No distribution of awarding-body papers or mark schemes. No examiner claims we cannot evidence. No guaranteed grades. No approval or accreditation from KHDA, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge or Pearson, because we hold none.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Barari: your questions answered

Which IGCSE science award is my child actually taking?+

Ask the exams officer, because there are at least four possibilities and they are not interchangeable. Separate sciences means three IGCSEs with three sets of papers. Cambridge Combined Science 0653 is a single award across all three sciences. Cambridge Co-ordinated Science 0654 is a double award. The Pearson Edexcel Science Double Award 4SD0 is a different double award again. Content volume, paper structure and reporting all differ, and a tutor cannot plan a course without knowing which one your child sits.

Does my child sit a practical exam or a written alternative?+

In Cambridge sciences it depends on what the centre enters: either a practical test conducted in the school laboratory under exam conditions, or an alternative-to-practical written paper examining experimental skills on paper. Ask the exams officer which. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE sciences set no separate practical paper and assess practical skills inside the two written papers instead. The answer matters because the alternative-to-practical paper is a distinct skill set that needs explicit teaching rather than general revision.

Can experimental skills be taught over video?+

The paper-based ones, yes, and better than most families expect. Identifying variables, justifying repeat readings, handling anomalies, choosing apparatus with an appropriate resolution, naming a specific source of error rather than saying human error, and reading scales accurately are question types following a learnable formula. They are the most predictable marks in the subject and the least revised. What a screen cannot supply is apparatus familiarity, which your child's school provides and which no tutor substitutes for in any format.

Is a combined science award easier than separate sciences?+

Lighter in volume and identical in standard, which is a distinction families often miss. A combined award covers reduced content in each science but is examined with the same command-term precision and the same calculation discipline, so a pupil told the course is easier can still be caught out by how the marks are awarded. The more important consequence is forward-looking: A Level and IB Higher Level sciences commonly assume separate-science content, so check what your school's sixth form expects before the award is chosen.

Does IB Gram send a science tutor to an Al Barari villa?+

No. All UAE tuition is delivered live and one-to-one over video, scheduled to Gulf Standard Time. Home visits are a service we run only in India and no tutor is sent to any UAE address. For the written and practical-skills papers the format costs very little, because the work is marked questions, worked calculations with visible steps and a shared screen. Practical laboratory work happens at school in either case, and we say so rather than implying a tutor could run experiments at your home.

Where do IGCSE physics candidates lose the most marks?+

Describing a graph when the question asked for an explanation, which costs marks in every topic rather than one. Then refraction and ray diagrams, where credit attaches to construction lines and to measuring from the normal rather than the surface, so a candidate who measures wrongly loses the whole question. Then unit prefixes in the wave equation, where kilohertz and megahertz quietly cost a mark each time they appear. Each of those takes one to three sessions, which is why technique work often beats more content revision.

Why does my child lose chemistry marks on calculations they can do?+

Two reasons, both fixable. Concentration units: moles per cubic decimetre against moles per cubic centimetre decides more questions than conceptual understanding does, and it bleeds through every titration and solution question. And missing working: mark schemes credit the steps, so a candidate who shows nothing loses the entire question when an early rounding choice compounds through a multi-step calculation. The pupils most affected are the quick ones who have been praised for mental arithmetic, and two to three weeks of enforced working changes it.

How should we handle two weak sciences with only one free evening?+

Find the shared cause first. Where physics and chemistry are both weak the common factor is usually quantitative — rearranging, standard form, units, significant figures — and one tutor across both will see that rather than diagnosing separately within each subject. A short block on the quantitative handling can lift both at once. Where the causes genuinely differ, prioritise by distance from the grade boundary rather than by severity, because a science two marks below a boundary repays an hour far better than one fifteen below.

How much does IGCSE science tutoring cost in Dubai per subject?+

Market figures read in October 2026 run roughly AED 45 to AED 150 an hour for budget and student tutors, AED 150 to AED 300 for qualified subject tutors online, and AED 200 to AED 450 or above for specialists. Monthly at one session a week that is roughly AED 240 to AED 600, AED 600 to AED 1,200, or AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 and above. The figure to plan with is per science: two sciences weekly at the mid band is AED 1,200 to AED 2,400 a month. Those are market numbers, not our prices.

What revision routine works when my child gets home at five?+

Short, timed and marked. One past-paper question set per science per week under a clock beats an hour of open revision, because timing is where the marks go: a candidate spending fourteen minutes on a six-mark question will not finish the paper. Then mark it against the published scheme rather than against a feeling about whether it looked right, so the student sees where credit actually sits. Sequence by paper rather than by topic, because the losses are often concentrated in one paper.

Which biology topics are worth most late in Year 11?+

Inheritance, because drawing the cross instead of reasoning in prose recovers method marks immediately and takes one session. Then the precise distinctions between diffusion, osmosis and active transport, which the mark scheme separates and candidates conflate under pressure. Then data-interpretation on enzymes and photosynthesis, where the answer wanted is the limiting factor that produced the graph's shape rather than a description of the shape. All three are technique rather than content, so they fit the weeks when content teaching has stopped being realistic.

What should we do in the summer after IGCSE science?+

Six to eight bridging sessions, more if your child took a combined award and intends to continue. A Level and IB Higher Level sciences both start at pace and assume quantitative fluency and extended writing that a comfortable IGCSE pass does not demonstrate. Both also require individual investigative work assessed against criteria, and a candidate who only ever sat an alternative-to-practical paper has never designed anything. Teaching variables, controls, uncertainty and evaluation before Year 12 means the first investigation is not also the first attempt.

Which exam series does an Al Barari science candidate sit?+

Cambridge runs June and November, and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November. UAE candidates use those. The February and March series is offered to India only, so any UAE-facing page quoting a March window is wrong about your country. Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states it is essential to use the correct timetable version for the zone, warning that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one.

Do science tutors in Dubai need a MoHRE permit?+

Yes. The private tutor work permit was introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years, covering registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Anyone tutoring without it is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, although no fine schedule is published, so be sceptical of pages quoting amounts. Ask to see the permit rather than accepting a verbal assurance, and ask any agency the same question.

Will a tutor give us mark schemes and past papers to keep?+

No. Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables belong to Cambridge and Pearson, and reproducing or distributing them is copyright infringement. A tutor works through questions from legitimately obtained material and teaches your child to read a mark scheme themselves, so they can see where credit is awarded rather than being handed answers. In science that shift is worth a great deal, because the marks sit in named variables, units and construction lines rather than in the final figure.

Four answers before you hire anyone

Email your child's exams officer and ask four things: the awarding body, the syllabus code, the tier, and which science award your child sits — plus whether the centre enters the practical test or the alternative-to-practical paper. Then mark the most recent mock paper by paper rather than as a single grade, because in Cambridge sciences the losses are often concentrated in one paper and very often in the one nobody revised. With those in hand you can judge any tutor in two minutes by asking them to describe the papers. Al Barari sessions run live and one-to-one over video at Gulf Standard Time. Practical work stays at school, we make no home visits in the UAE, and we promise no grades.
