IGCSE Science Tutor in Jumeirah Village Triangle

"Science" is not one IGCSE. A family looking for an IGCSE science tutor in Jumeirah Village Triangle may be on three separate sciences, on coordinated science, or on combined science, and each awards a different number of qualifications and sits different papers. This page sorts that out first, then covers the alternative-to-practical paper and the recall tables most students never learn. Teaching is one-to-one over live video; IB Gram makes no UAE home visits.

  • Each science route named with its Cambridge code and paper count
  • The alternative-to-practical paper treated as a component in its own right

IB & IGCSE in Jumeirah Village Triangle

First find out which science qualification your child is taking

There is no such thing as a single IGCSE in science, which is why the first question a competent tutor asks is which route the student is on. Separate sciences means three IGCSEs: Physics 0625, Chemistry 0620 and Biology 0610, each with its own full syllabus and its own pair of papers plus a practical component. Coordinated Science is a double award covering all three disciplines with reduced content. Combined Science is a single award covering all three with further reduced content. Pearson offers its own equivalents again with different codes.

Those routes are not interchangeable and they do not lead to the same places. Three separate sciences keeps every A Level and IB Higher Level science open without argument. A double or single award covers less content in each discipline and some receiving schools treat it as insufficient preparation for a Higher Level science. For a child who might read medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, veterinary medicine or an engineering route, that distinction is the most consequential thing on this page.

The second thing most families do not know about is the practical component. Many Cambridge science entries use an alternative-to-practical paper, which assesses experimental method on paper rather than in a laboratory: choosing apparatus, identifying control variables, judging the resolution of an instrument, spotting anomalous results, drawing and reading graphs. It carries real marks and it is almost always the last thing a school revision programme reaches, because the theory papers are bigger. For a student a grade short of their target, it is frequently the best four sessions available.

The third is recall. IGCSE sciences contain a surprising amount of content that is pure memory rather than reasoning, and chemistry's qualitative analysis — the tests for cations, anions and gases, with the observation each produces — is the clearest example. It is a table. A student who learns the table to blank recall picks up marks on every paper that includes an identification question, and most students revise it by recognition instead, which does not work under examination conditions. The same is true of biology definitions, which are credited against specific wording, and of the physics formulae that are not printed in the examination. None of that is interesting work and all of it is cheap, which is the combination that makes it get skipped.

What follows is the route comparison, the paper structure for each science, the alternative-to-practical skill set, the recall tables worth learning, where marks are lost topic by topic, what tutoring costs in this market with sources, the examination calendar including the series UAE candidates never sit, and how to schedule around a Jumeirah Village Triangle school night. Teaching is delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and there are no home visits anywhere in the UAE.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three stages produce nearly all science enquiries from Jumeirah Village Triangle. The route decision belongs to the first and determines what is possible at the third.

KS3Ages 11-14 · Years 7-9

Key Stage 3 science

No external examination, and the stage where the three sciences are still taught as one subject. What is built here and assumed later is numerical confidence — rearranging a formula, handling units and prefixes, reading a scale — plus the habit of writing a method precisely. A student weak on those arrives at IGCSE looking like they have a science problem when they have an arithmetic and precision problem.

In Dubai the Year 9 option decision usually fixes the science route, and set placement in Year 8 often drives it. A Jumeirah Village Triangle family whose child had one weak term can find separate sciences closed off by it, which is why Year 9 is the right moment to produce contrary evidence rather than Year 11.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE sciences, Years 10 and 11

Two years to externally examined qualifications. On the Cambridge route each separate science is tiered into Core and Extended, with the tier capping the grade awarded. Each entry includes a practical assessment component, which for most Dubai candidates is the alternative-to-practical paper. There is no coursework, and the grade is a weighted total across the papers sat.

UK curricula account for 37% of Dubai private-school enrolment across 227 schools and 387,441 students, so the Cambridge science syllabuses are among the most widely taught in the emirate and UAE evening cover is deep. Pearson science codes are used by some schools too, which is why confirming the board matters before buying past papers.

Post-16Ages 16-19 · Years 12-13

A Level or IB Diploma sciences

The destination that gives the route decision its weight. A Level sciences commonly ask for grade 6 or 7 in the subject, and IB Higher Level sciences assume comparable content coverage. A student arriving from a reduced-content award may be accepted conditionally, refused, or required to take a bridging route, and the policy varies by school.

Students from the Jumeirah Village and Dubailand schools split both ways at sixteen. Those moving to the Diploma typically go to JESS Arabian Ranches, Nord Anglia International School Dubai or Fairgreen International School, where Higher Level sciences carry an internally assessed investigation worth 20% that IGCSE does not prepare students for at all.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The IGCSE science subjects and components most requested from the Jumeirah Village Triangle area, with the Cambridge code and what each one actually tests. Ordered by where marks are lost.

Physics (Cambridge 0625)

Core and Extended

Electricity and electromagnetism produce the heaviest loss, followed by graph work where axes are mislabelled or a gradient is read from the wrong points. Moments, pressure and thermal physics are reliable mark sources once the formula handling is secure. Units and prefixes are assessed throughout rather than separately.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620)

Core and Extended

Moles arithmetic and ionic equations without state symbols cost the most on Extended. Qualitative analysis is pure recall and the fastest recoverable block of marks in the subject. Organic chemistry at this level is about functional groups and reaction types rather than mechanisms.

Biology (Cambridge 0610)

Core and Extended

Content volume rather than depth is the difficulty. Answer length must match the mark allocation, and command terms decide what is wanted. Transport in plants, genetics and the human digestive and circulatory systems are the recurring weak topics across Dubai cohorts.

Coordinated Science (double award)

Core and Extended

All three disciplines with reduced content in each, awarded as two IGCSEs. A sensible load for a student who needs science qualifications without three full syllabuses, but check the sixth-form policy before assuming it supports an A Level or Higher Level science.

Combined Science (single award)

Core and Extended

All three disciplines in one IGCSE with the most reduced content. Appropriate where science is not the destination, and frequently insufficient as preparation for a post-16 science course. The decision should be made against the sixth-form requirement rather than against timetable convenience.

Alternative to practical

Core and Extended

Experimental method assessed on paper: apparatus selection, control variables, instrument resolution, anomalous results, tabulation and graph work. A closed skill set, which makes it unusually teachable, and routinely the least practised paper in a school revision programme.

Qualitative analysis

Chemistry, Core and Extended

Tests for cations, anions and gases with the observation each produces. Entirely recall, entirely predictable, and worth learning to blank recall rather than to recognition. Students who can only recognise the right answer in a list lose the marks when asked to state the test.

Graph and data skills

All three sciences

Choosing scales, plotting accurately, drawing a line of best fit, reading intermediate values and calculating a gradient with units. Assessed in every science and in the alternative-to-practical paper, and improved faster than any content topic because it is procedural.

Calculation and unit handling

Physics and Chemistry

Rearranging formulae, standard form, prefixes and significant figures. Weakness here presents as a problem with whichever topic is current rather than as itself, which is why a diagnosis built on topics alone frequently misidentifies the cause.

Command terms across the sciences

Core and Extended

'State' takes a phrase with no working. 'Describe' takes what happens. 'Explain' takes why. 'Suggest' takes applied reasoning in an unfamiliar context. Mismatching these is the single largest category of avoidable loss across all three sciences and is teachable in about one session.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, all one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. Science divides into recall work, technique work and route decisions, and they respond to different schedules.

Alternative-to-practical block

Four sessions covering the whole component: apparatus selection, control variables, instrument resolution, tabulation, anomalous results, and graph drawing and reading. It is a closed skill set with no new content to learn, which makes it the highest-yield short block in IGCSE science and the one most often skipped by school revision programmes.

  • Real alternative-to-practical questions with the published schemes
  • Resolution and precision taught explicitly, not assumed
  • Graph plotting marked to the scheme's tolerance
  • Works as a four-session add-on to any science subject

Recall programme

Short, frequent testing on the content that is purely memory: qualitative analysis tests and observations, biology definitions, physics formulae not on any provided list. Blank recall rather than recognition, tested every session and between sessions. Unspectacular work that reliably recovers marks on every paper.

  • Blank-paper recall, never multiple choice
  • Short daily sets between sessions, marked weekly
  • Covers the test tables, definitions and formula lists
  • Three to four weeks for the tables to hold under pressure

Route and tier evidence block

Two to four sessions in Year 9 or Year 10 for a family deciding between separate, coordinated and combined science, or arguing for an Extended rather than Core entry. Real questions at the relevant standard, marked honestly, produce evidence the school can act on rather than a parental impression.

  • Extended-standard questions across all three sciences
  • Honest written view on whether three full syllabuses are realistic
  • Sixth-form requirements checked against the proposed route
  • No ongoing commitment after the block

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Jumeirah Village Triangle

01

Separate, coordinated or combined: which one is your child on?

Ask the examinations officer for the board, the syllabus code and the tier for each science entry. The answer tells you how many IGCSEs are being awarded, how much content is being covered, and what doors remain open at sixteen. Families frequently assume they know and are wrong, because school communications tend to say 'science' where the entry says something more specific.

Separate sciences is three codes, three syllabuses and three IGCSEs: Physics 0625, Chemistry 0620, Biology 0610 on the Cambridge route. It is the heaviest option on any timetable and the only one that keeps an A Level or IB Higher Level science open without a conversation. Coordinated Science is a double award covering all three with reduced content in each, awarded as two IGCSEs. Combined Science is a single award with the most reduced content, awarded as one.

The policy at the receiving school is what matters, and it varies. Some sixth forms accept a double award for A Level Chemistry; some do not. Some will accept it conditionally with a bridging requirement. IB schools offering Higher Level sciences generally expect full content coverage, because the Diploma sciences move quickly from the first term and carry an internally assessed investigation worth 20% of the grade. The only way to know is to ask the school your child is likely to attend, in writing, before the Year 9 option form is signed.

On top of the route sits the tier, on the Cambridge separate sciences. Core covers less content and caps the grade, commonly at 5 on the 9-1 scale or C on the letter scale; Extended covers the full syllabus and reaches 9. A student entered for Core cannot be awarded above the cap however well they perform, and the entry decision sits with the school months before the examination.

The alternative-to-practical paper, properly

This component gets less revision attention than any other part of an IGCSE science entry, and the reason is simple: the theory papers carry more marks, so a school running out of time cuts the practical paper. The consequence is whole cohorts sitting a paper they have barely practised, losing marks on a skill set that could have been taught in four sessions with no new content involved.

What it assesses is experimental method expressed on paper. Choosing the right apparatus for a measurement and justifying it. Identifying the independent, dependent and controlled variables in a described experiment. Judging the resolution of an instrument and the precision it permits. Constructing a results table with correct headings and units before any data is collected. Identifying an anomalous result and saying what to do about it. Plotting a graph to the scheme's tolerance, drawing a line of best fit, and reading an intermediate value accurately.

Every one of those is procedural and markable, which means it is teachable and testable. A student who has worked through eight real alternative-to-practical questions with the published schemes read afterwards will not be surprised by a ninth. A student who has worked through none is improvising on the day, usually with reasonable scientific instincts and no idea what the paper credits.

The other thing this component does is prepare a student for something later. The Diploma sciences carry an internally assessed investigation worth 20% of the grade, marked on research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. The habits the alternative-to-practical paper rewards — defined variables, justified apparatus, honest treatment of anomalies, sensible precision — are the same habits that investigation credits. Work done here is not wasted at sixteen.

03

The recall content: qualitative analysis as a table

Chemistry 0620 contains a block of content that is pure memory, and it is the most efficient marks in the whole science entry. The tests for cations, anions and gases, with the observation each produces, appear in identification questions on every series. There is no reasoning to construct; there is a table to know. Students who revise it by recognition — reading the table and feeling familiar with it — cannot reproduce it under examination conditions, and lose marks they had every opportunity to hold.

The method is blank recall. The student writes the table from nothing, three or four times a week, and it is marked for completeness rather than for effort. Three to four weeks of that and it holds. The same approach applies to biology definitions, which are also marked against specific wording, and to the physics formulae that are not provided in the examination.

Why this gets neglected is worth naming. Recall work is dull, it does not feel like understanding, and both students and tutors prefer the satisfaction of explaining a concept. But an examination credits the right answer, and for identification questions the right answer is a remembered observation. A tutor who spends every session on explanation and never tests recall is giving the student the more enjoyable hour and the lower grade.

The table below is a working summary of the kind of content involved. It is there to show the shape of the task rather than to replace the official syllabus content, which should be taken from the current Cambridge syllabus document directly — we reference and link the awarding body's own material rather than reproducing it.

Where marks go in each science, and what it costs to fix

Loss patterns are consistent across Dubai cohorts, which means a marked script tells a specialist what to do within a few minutes. The useful output of a diagnosis is a list of habits with a session count against each, not a list of weak topics, because habits repeat on every paper and a topic list does not say what to do differently.

In Physics 0625 the recurring losses are circuits and electromagnetism, where students recall rules without applying them to the network in front of them; graph work, where gradients are read from plotted points rather than from the drawn line; and formula rearrangement under time pressure. In Chemistry 0620 it is moles arithmetic, ionic equations missing state symbols, and the recall content discussed above. In Biology 0610 it is command-term mismatch and answer length, where a student writes a paragraph for a two-mark question and then runs short of time.

Across all three the single largest avoidable category is command terms. 'State' wants a phrase. 'Describe' wants what happens. 'Explain' wants why. 'Suggest' wants reasoning applied to an unfamiliar context and is where the strongest students gain separation. A student who annotates the command term before writing changes their mark profile across every science paper, and it takes about one session to install as a habit.

The table gives realistic session counts, because a plan without a timescale is not a plan and the honest ranges are short for most of these.

What science tutoring costs in Dubai, and how to buy less of it

Three separate sciences is the most expensive subject block on an IGCSE timetable to support privately, and the useful question is not the hourly rate but how to need fewer hours. The answer usually involves buying the cheap components first: the alternative-to-practical block at four sessions, the recall programme at three or four weeks of short daily work, and the command-term habit at one session. Those three together typically cost less than a term of weekly content teaching and move more marks.

The published Dubai bands, read in October 2026: Tutopiya from AED 33-52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45-65 at the entry level; Unitors IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB from AED 200; Bestimate's 2026 rate table at AED 150-300 for qualified online subject tutors, AED 180-350 for in-home one-to-one and AED 200-450 or above for IGCSE and IB specialists, with independent home tutors reaching AED 500 including travel; TutorChase at AED 270; BartyED at AED 650 at the premium end.

Monthly, Bestimate's estimates for one weekly hour come to roughly AED 240-600 at the budget end, AED 600-1,200 mid-market and AED 1,000-2,000 or above for exam-year specialist support, with published packages around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions. A family supporting all three sciences at a weekly hour each is therefore looking at three times those numbers, which is exactly why component-first buying matters.

One question worth asking any tutor who offers to cover all three sciences: which codes have you taught, and which have you marked. Many specialists cover two of the three to a high standard; few cover all three at Extended level with equal command of the mark schemes. Where one tutor genuinely covers two, continuity improves and the student repeats less context each week. Where they cannot, splitting is the better outcome even at the cost of a second slot.

The science examination calendar for a UAE candidate

Two things are worth getting right about the calendar, and both are commonly got wrong on pages aimed at UAE families. The first is which series applies. Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level in a June series and a November series, plus Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. The February/March series is offered to India only, so no UAE candidate sits it and a revision plan built around a March window is built on a date that does not exist for them. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November.

The second is the zone rule. Cambridge allocates every examination centre to one of six administrative zones, each with its own timetable version, states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, and notes that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. For a student with three science entries plus everything else, a clash check against the wrong zone's timetable is a genuine risk. Get the zone from the examinations officer before printing anything.

Results timings give a sense of the lag. Pearson's June 2026 International GCSE results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, while November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so the right habit is to open the live official timetable rather than to trust a restated date anywhere, including on this page.

Counted backwards, a science year looks like this: route and tier settled by the end of Year 10, full syllabus seen once by the autumn of Year 11, mocks in the winter, the alternative-to-practical block in the spring, recall programme running continuously from the spring, and full timed papers from the mock onwards with an error log kept throughout.

Format, scheduling and what we do not claim

  • Three sciences needs three slots; 45-minute online sessions make that workable
  • Home visits exist in the market at AED 180-500 but not from IB Gram
  • Ramadan sessions move to post-Iftar timing on request
  • Not an examination centre; entries go through your school or an approved centre
  • No regulator or awarding-body approval claimed

A family supporting three sciences needs three slots, which makes the format question practical rather than philosophical. From Jumeirah Village Triangle, children at Sunmarke School or Arcadia Global School inside the community can take 16:30, and online sessions run to 21:00 on Gulf Standard Time, so three 45-minute sessions a week across different evenings is straightforward to arrange. A visiting tutor needing a two-hour minimum and finishing by about 18:30 cannot offer that shape for three subjects.

Home visits are nonetheless a legitimate choice for some students and the market provides them: AED 180-350 an hour on Bestimate's 2026 rate table, up to about AED 500 for independent home tutors with travel included. A younger student who needs an adult in the room, or one whose written method needs correcting as it is produced, is well served by presence. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE — that is an India-only service — so the comparison here is offered to inform rather than to argue.

Scheduling notes for this cluster. Families driving back from Motor City, Dubai Hills or the Dubailand schools usually want 17:30 or later. Ramadan sessions move to post-Iftar timing, typically 20:30 to 22:00 and often at 45 minutes, which suits recall work well. Mock weeks are generally paused, then resumed with a session spent reading the marked scripts, which for three sciences is the most informative hour of the year.

And the claims we do not make. IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licensing or partnership from Cambridge, Pearson, KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education or MoHRE. We are not an examination centre and cannot enter a candidate; entries go through your school or an approved private-candidate centre. We hold no KHDA Educational Services Permit and have no UAE office. Separately, the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no amount appears here.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Jumeirah Village Triangle

Science students joining from Jumeirah Village Triangle work alongside families across the Dubailand communities. The notes focus on which school each community feeds and which science route tends to dominate there.

Jumeirah Village Triangle

Sunmarke School and Arcadia Global School sit inside the community on British curricula, which makes this the highest-volume source of Year 10 and 11 science enquiries in the cluster, with 16:30 starts workable.

Jumeirah Village Circle

Same schools and the same Al Khail Road access. Apartment living means practical revision space, rather than scheduling, is usually the constraint for a student working late.

Motor City

GEMS Metropole School anchors the community through IGCSE, and the separate-versus-coordinated science question is the most common enquiry from this postcode in the spring of Year 9.

Dubai Sports City

Victory Heights Primary School and Bradenton Preparatory Academy sit inside the development, so the profile skews younger and Key Stage 3 numerical groundwork outnumbers examination repair.

Arabian Ranches

Ranches Primary School and JESS Arabian Ranches serve this cluster. Families planning a Diploma destination ask about separate sciences more often, because Higher Level sciences assume full content coverage.

Dubai Hills Estate

GEMS Wellington Academy Al Khail and Kings' School Dubai draw heavily from here, producing steady demand for 0625 and 0620 Extended and for the tier conversation in Year 10.

Remraam and Mudon

Close to South View School and the Dubailand belt. Requests concentrate on Biology 0610 content volume and on the alternative-to-practical paper.

Town Square

Younger population and longer school runs, so sessions land at 18:00 or later. Recordings matter more here because revision happens after a long day.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Confirm the route, the codes and the tiers

One email to the examinations officer returns whether your child is on separate, coordinated or combined science, which codes, and which tier per entry. That answer determines how much content is being covered and what the grade ceiling is, and it is the prerequisite for any sensible plan.

  2. 02

Check the sixth-form policy in writing

Ask the school your child is likely to attend at sixteen whether the route they are on supports the post-16 sciences they may want. Policies differ on double and single awards, and a written answer in Year 9 is worth more than an assumption in Year 11.

  3. 03

    Free diagnostic lesson

A full session at no charge spent reading the student's own errors across the sciences they are weakest in. The output is a list of habits with session counts, not a list of topics, because habits repeat on every paper and are what can be changed on a known timescale.

  4. 04

    Buy the cheap components first

The command-term habit is one session. The alternative-to-practical block is four. The recall programme is three or four weeks of short daily work with weekly marking. Together these cost less than a term of content teaching and usually move more marks, which is why they come first.

Weekly slots reviewed on school marks

Separate sessions per science, 45 or 60 minutes, scheduled across different evenings around the JVT school run, with post-Iftar timing in Ramadan. Progress is judged on the school's next marked papers, read against the original diagnosis rather than against our own exercises.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The route question asked first

Separate sciences awards three IGCSEs with full content; coordinated two with less; combined one with least. That decision determines post-16 access and it is made in Year 9, so we ask about it before discussing any lessons.

The practical paper treated as a component

The alternative-to-practical paper assesses a closed set of procedural skills with no new content attached, and school revision programmes routinely reach it last. Four sessions covers it, and the habits it rewards also prepare a student for the Diploma investigation at sixteen.

Recall taught as recall

Qualitative analysis, biology definitions and the unprovided physics formulae are memory tasks. We test them to blank recall rather than recognition, because recognition does not survive an examination hall, and three to four weeks of short daily sets is enough.

Habits with session counts

The diagnosis names each habit and how long it takes to change: one session for command terms, two for ionic equations, three for circuit reasoning, four for the practical paper. That is a plan with an endpoint rather than an open commitment.

Component-first buying for three subjects

Supporting all three sciences weekly is the most expensive block on an IGCSE timetable. We tell families to buy the cheap components first because it costs less and moves more marks, even though it bills less than a term of content teaching.

Material referenced, not reproduced

Cambridge and Pearson syllabuses, past papers and mark schemes are copyright. We work through them in session and link the official sources so you can obtain them properly. Nothing is scanned, distributed or presented as our own material.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Jumeirah Village Triangle: your questions answered

Is my child taking one science IGCSE or three?+

Ask the examinations officer, because school communications often say 'science' where the entry is more specific. Separate sciences means three IGCSEs on three codes: Physics 0625, Chemistry 0620 and Biology 0610 on the Cambridge route, each with a full syllabus. Coordinated Science is a double award covering all three with reduced content, giving two IGCSEs. Combined Science is a single award with the most reduced content, giving one. The number matters for the certificate and the content matters for what a sixth form will accept at sixteen.

Will a double award science get my child into A Level Chemistry?+

Sometimes, and the only reliable answer comes from the school your child will attend. Policies genuinely differ: some sixth forms accept a coordinated double award for an A Level science, some refuse it, and some accept it conditionally with a bridging requirement. IB schools offering Higher Level sciences generally expect full content coverage because the Diploma sciences move fast from the first term and carry an internally assessed investigation worth 20%. Get the policy in writing during Year 9, while the option form can still be changed.

What is actually on the alternative-to-practical paper?+

Experimental method expressed on paper. Choosing and justifying apparatus by its resolution and range. Identifying independent, dependent and controlled variables in a described experiment. Judging the precision an instrument permits. Constructing a results table with correct headings and units. Identifying an anomalous result and stating what to do about it. Plotting a graph to the scheme's tolerance, drawing a line of best fit and reading intermediate values or a gradient from the line rather than from plotted points. It is a closed skill set and four sessions normally covers all of it.

Why does my child know the chemistry tests but still lose the marks?+

Because they know them by recognition rather than by recall. A student who reads the qualitative analysis table and feels familiar with it cannot reproduce the reagent and the observation when asked to state a test with nothing in front of them. The method that works is blank recall: write the whole table from nothing, three or four times a week, marked for completeness. Three to four weeks of that and it holds under examination conditions. The same applies to biology definitions, which are credited against specific wording, and to unprovided physics formulae.

Which science do Dubai students most often need help with?+

Physics 0625, usually, and specifically electricity and electromagnetism, where students recall the rules without applying them to the circuit in the question. Chemistry 0620 comes second, on moles arithmetic and ionic equations missing state symbols. Biology 0610 generates fewer enquiries but a particular pattern: answer length not matched to the mark allocation, so time runs short on later questions. Across all three, command-term mismatch is the largest avoidable category and it is teachable in roughly one session plus a fortnight of marked practice.

Can one tutor teach all three sciences at Extended level?+

Many specialists cover two of the three to a high standard; few cover all three at Extended with equal command of the mark schemes. Where one tutor genuinely covers two, continuity improves and the student spends less time re-explaining context each week. Where they cannot, splitting across two tutors is the better outcome even though it costs a second slot. Ask directly which codes a tutor has taught and which they have marked, and treat a general answer about being good at science as a no.

How do we support three sciences without paying for three weekly hours?+

Buy the components rather than the subjects. The command-term habit is one session. The alternative-to-practical block is four and covers the practical paper for all three sciences at once in method terms. The recall programme is three or four weeks of short daily work with weekly marking. Those three together cost less than a term of weekly content teaching in one subject and typically move more marks. Weekly content support is then reserved for the single science where the marked work shows a genuine content gap.

Does a science tutor come to the house in Jumeirah Village Triangle?+

Independent tutors and agencies in Dubai do, at AED 180-350 an hour on Bestimate's 2026 rate table and up to about AED 500 for independent home tutors with travel included. IB Gram does not, anywhere in the UAE. For a family supporting three sciences the scheduling arithmetic favours the online format strongly: three 45-minute sessions across different evenings, with starts from 16:30 and slots to 21:00, against a visiting tutor's two-hour minimum and a realistic finish by about 18:30.

Is Core tier science a problem if my child wants a science A Level?+

Usually yes, because of the ceiling. A Cambridge Core entry is commonly capped at grade 5 on the 9-1 scale or C on the letter scale, and an A Level science typically asks for grade 6 or 7. No performance lifts a result above the cap, so the entry closes the door before the paper is sat. The entry decision sits with the school on internal evidence and closes months before the series, which is why a Year 10 block of marked Extended-standard questions is the useful response rather than a Year 11 conversation.

Which series will my child sit for IGCSE science in the UAE?+

June or November on the Cambridge route, and May/June or November on the Pearson route. The February/March series is offered to India only, so no UAE candidate sits it, and any plan built around a March examination window is built on a date that does not apply. Cambridge also runs Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October, which is a different assessment entirely and is sometimes what has been half-remembered. Confirm the series and the entry with the examinations officer.

How does the Cambridge zone timetable affect three science entries?+

It raises the stakes on a clash check. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, each with its own timetable version, states it is essential to use the correct version for your zone, and notes it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. A student with three science entries plus everything else has more papers to coordinate, so checking against the wrong zone's timetable is a real risk. Ask the examinations officer which zone the centre is in before printing a timetable.

Does the alternative-to-practical work help later in the IB?+

Directly. The Diploma sciences each carry an internally assessed scientific investigation worth 20% of the grade, marked out of 24 across research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. The habits the alternative-to-practical paper rewards are the same ones that investigation credits: variables defined and justified, apparatus chosen for its resolution, anomalies treated honestly, precision quoted sensibly, graphs drawn and read properly. A student who took that paper seriously at sixteen arrives in DP1 able to design an investigation rather than learning how during one.

How much should a Dubai family budget for one science subject per term?+

At published market bands, twelve weekly sessions over a term comes to roughly AED 1,800-3,600 at the AED 150-300 qualified band and AED 2,400-5,400 at the AED 200-450 specialist band. Three sciences at that frequency triples those figures, which is why component-first buying matters. Published packages in this market include about AED 799 a month for eight online sessions. Those are other providers' figures read in October 2026. For context, KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that Dubai private school fees would not rise for 2026-27.

Can sessions shift during Ramadan or a mock week?+

Yes, and for three sciences both are worth planning at the start of term. During Ramadan sessions move to post-Iftar timing, typically 20:30 to 22:00 on Gulf Standard Time and often at 45 minutes, which suits recall work particularly well because short and frequent is the right shape for it. Through a school mock week most families pause teaching and keep one session to read the marked scripts across all three sciences, which is usually the most informative hour of the year. Every session is recorded, so a pause costs nothing.

Route first, components second, content last

Science is the subject block where buying in the right order saves the most. Find out whether your child is on three separate sciences, a double award or a single one, and check in writing whether that route supports the post-16 sciences they may want. Then buy the cheap components: the command-term habit, the alternative-to-practical block, the recall programme. Content teaching is the expensive part and should be reserved for the one science where a marked script shows a genuine gap. Send the codes, the tiers and a marked paper, and take the free diagnostic lesson.
