IGCSE Home Tutor in Jumeirah Village Triangle

Before you book an IGCSE home tutor in Jumeirah Village Triangle, find out two things: which board your child's school enters them for, and whether they are on the Core or the Extended tier. Those two facts change the papers sat, the grade ceiling and what revision is worth doing. This page gives the syllabus codes, the tier rules and the Dubai rate bands. Teaching is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; IB Gram runs no home visits in the UAE.

  • Syllabus codes named, so you can check the right specification
  • Core and Extended tier rules and the grade ceiling each carries

IB & IGCSE in Jumeirah Village Triangle

Two questions to answer before you pay anybody

Which board, and which tier. Those are the two questions, and a surprising number of Jumeirah Village Triangle parents cannot answer either when they first call. It is not carelessness — schools rarely spell it out in a letter. But the answers determine which specification document matters, which past papers are useful and what grade is even reachable, so an IGCSE home tutor in Jumeirah Village Triangle who does not ask them in the first five minutes is guessing.

Take board first. Cambridge International and Pearson Edexcel both offer International GCSEs, and Dubai schools use both, sometimes mixing boards across subjects in the same cohort. Cambridge Mathematics is 0580; Pearson's International GCSE Mathematics A is 4MA1. Cambridge Physics is 0625, Chemistry 0620, Biology 0610. The content overlaps heavily, but paper structures, formula sheet provision and the way questions are worded differ enough that a term of practice on the wrong board's papers is a term partly wasted. Pearson also runs some subjects on a modular basis, which Cambridge does not.

Then tier. Cambridge offers many subjects at Core and Extended. Core covers less content and caps the grade at 5 on the 9-1 scale, or C on the legacy letter scale. Extended covers the full syllabus and reaches grade 9. A student entered for Core cannot be awarded a grade above the cap however well they perform, so a child aiming at a sixth form that wants grade 6 mathematics has to be on Extended, and the entry decision usually sits with the school months before the exam. If your child is on Core and the target needs more, that conversation has a deadline.

The practical point for a family in the Triangle is that both of those facts are checkable in an afternoon. Ask the school's examinations officer for the board and syllabus code per subject and the tier of entry. Write them down. Then any tutor you speak to can be asked directly whether they have taught that code, and the answer stops being a matter of trust rather than a matter of record. It also changes what you buy: at that point you are paying for familiarity with a specific specification and its mark scheme, which is a thing a tutor either has or does not, instead of paying for general subject confidence that cannot be tested until the first marked paper comes back.

This page then does the work that follows: a syllabus-code reference for the subjects Dubai schools enter most, the paper structure and tier rules behind each one, the specific topics where IGCSE students in UAE schools lose marks, what the Dubai market charges in AED, an honest comparison of a home visit in JVT against an online session, the Cambridge and Pearson examination calendar with the India-only series warning, and the Ministry of Education equivalency rule that decides how many subjects your child actually needs. Lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video; there are no home visits anywhere in the UAE.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

IGCSE sits inside a wider British-curriculum route, and which stage your child is at changes what tutoring should do. The three stages below cover almost every enquiry from the Jumeirah Village Triangle and Dubailand communities.

KS3Ages 11-14 · Years 7-9

Key Stage 3, Years 7 to 9

No external examinations, which makes this the stage where gaps form quietly. The skills that decide an IGCSE grade two years later are built here: algebraic manipulation, written structure in English, and the habit of showing method. Tutoring at KS3 is cheap in both money and hours compared with repair work in Year 11, and it is almost always the better investment when a report flags weak foundations.

Dubai schools set their Year 9 option choices in the spring term, and those choices decide the IGCSE subject list. Jumeirah Village Triangle families frequently ask for help across that decision rather than for a subject: whether to take triple science, whether a second language is worth the slot, and whether the mathematics set the child is in implies Core or Extended entry later.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

International GCSE, Years 10 and 11

Two years, typically eight to ten subjects, examined externally by Cambridge or Pearson. Most subjects are fully examined with no coursework; some sciences carry an alternative-to-practical paper rather than a practical examination. The grade comes from a weighted total across papers, so diagnosing which paper is weak is more useful than general revision. Tier of entry is set by the school and caps the attainable grade.

In Dubai, UK curricula account for 37% of private-school enrolment across 227 schools and 387,441 students, so IGCSE cohorts here are large and tutoring supply for mainstream subjects is deep. That depth does not extend to every specification: a school entering a minority subject on Pearson may have very few locally resident tutors who have taught that exact code.

Sixth formAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

A Level or IB Diploma after Year 11

The IGCSE grade is a gate. A Level courses typically ask for grade 6 or 7 in the subject, and IB Higher Level courses expect comparable attainment. This is where a Core entry becomes visible as a constraint, because a capped grade may not clear the threshold even when the student is capable of the work. Planning backwards from the sixth-form requirement is the only sensible order.

Triangle students split both ways at sixteen. Some stay on the British route for A Levels; others move to the IB Diploma at schools such as JESS Arabian Ranches, Nord Anglia International School Dubai or Fairgreen International School. The IGCSE-to-Diploma step is sharpest in mathematics and the sciences, where the Diploma's internally assessed component is unlike anything in IGCSE.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The IGCSE subjects Jumeirah Village Triangle families ask about most, with the Cambridge syllabus code where one applies and what the papers actually demand. Where Pearson differs materially, that is noted.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580)

Core and Extended

Extended Paper 2 and Paper 4 both permit a calculator, and both reward visible method. The heaviest mark loss sits in algebraic fractions, transformations of graphs and compound interest problems where students round too early. Pearson's 4MA1 covers similar ground with a different paper split and its own formula provision.

Additional Mathematics (Cambridge 0606)

Single tier

Taken alongside 0580 by stronger sets in some Dubai schools, and the single best preparation for A Level or IB Higher Level mathematics. Calculus and trigonometric identities arrive early. Students who find 0580 Extended comfortable but then struggle here are usually short on algebraic fluency rather than concepts.

Physics (Cambridge 0625)

Core and Extended

Electricity and electromagnetism produce the most lost marks, followed by anything requiring a graph to be drawn and read accurately. The alternative-to-practical paper assesses experimental technique on paper, including precision of measurement and sensible control variables, and is routinely under-practised.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620)

Core and Extended

Moles calculations and ionic equations carry the mark loss. Examiners want state symbols, balanced equations and units carried through. Qualitative analysis — the tests for cations, anions and gases — is pure recall and is often the quickest grade gain available in the last month.

Biology (Cambridge 0610)

Core and Extended

The problem is command terms against content volume. 'Describe' and 'explain' attract different answers, and a student who writes a paragraph for a two-mark 'state' question loses time they need later. Transport in plants, genetics and the human digestive system are the recurring trouble spots.

English as a Second Language (Cambridge 0510 and 0511)

Core and Extended

Reading comprehension marks depend on lifting the right phrase, not on paraphrasing elegantly. The summary task has a strict word count and rewards content points over style. Speaking is separately assessed in some entries, and preparation for it is usually left too late.

English First Language (Cambridge 0500)

Single tier

Directed writing and descriptive or narrative composition, plus reading responses that must quote precisely. Students lose marks writing about what a text says rather than how it achieves its effect. Timed practice matters more than content teaching in this subject.

Economics (Cambridge 0455)

Single tier

Diagram marks are awarded independently of the prose: axes labelled, curves shifted, new equilibrium marked. Four-part structured questions escalate from definition to evaluation, and students often spend the time budget on the first part and leave the eight-mark evaluation thin.

Business Studies (Cambridge 0450)

Single tier

Application to the case material is the difference between a 5 and an 8. Generic answers about motivation or marketing score low; answers naming the firm in the stimulus and using its numbers score high. Break-even and ratio arithmetic is a reliable mark source if drilled.

Computer Science (Cambridge 0478)

Single tier

Paper 1 covers data representation, networks and hardware; Paper 2 is algorithms and programming, answered in pseudocode. Students who only write Python lose marks on Cambridge pseudocode conventions. Trace tables and binary or hexadecimal conversion are high-frequency, low-effort marks.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways Jumeirah Village Triangle families structure IGCSE support, all delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. Which one fits depends on how many terms are left before the entry deadline.

Year 10 groundwork

A weekly slot through Year 10, before the tier decision is finalised. This is the format that changes outcomes most cheaply, because algebraic fluency and written structure respond to regular practice and both are the foundation of the Year 11 grade. It also puts evidence in front of the school if a move from Core to Extended is the right call.

  • Same tutor across the year, working to the school's scheme of work
  • Topic tests from the correct syllabus code, not generic worksheets
  • Written progress note each half term for the tier conversation
  • One subject at a time unless the report flags more

Year 11 paper repair

A focused block aimed at the specific paper losing marks, worked from the student's own marked mocks. Six to ten sessions is typical. The first session is spent reading errors rather than teaching topics, because by Year 11 the content has usually been covered once and the problem is technique, timing or recall under pressure.

  • Diagnosis from marked mock scripts in session one
  • Timed paper practice against the correct board and tier
  • Mark-scheme language taught explicitly, not implied
  • Twice-weekly scheduling available in the final weeks

Alternative-to-practical and recall blocks

Short, cheap and frequently overlooked. The science alternative-to-practical papers assess experimental technique on paper, and the qualitative analysis tests in Chemistry 0620 are almost pure recall. Both respond to a handful of sessions in the final month, and both are often untouched by school revision programmes that focus on theory papers.

  • Apparatus, precision and control variables drilled on paper
  • Ion and gas test tables learned to recall, not recognition
  • Graph drawing and reading practised against real mark schemes
  • Works well as a four-session add-on to a main subject

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Jumeirah Village Triangle

01

Finding out which board and tier your child is actually entered for

Ask the examinations officer, not the class teacher. The examinations officer holds the entry data and can tell you the board, the syllabus code and the tier for every subject, which is the complete answer. A class teacher will usually know their own subject and may not know the rest. Put the request in writing and ask for it per subject; schools in Dubai answer this routinely.

Why it matters is practical. A Year 11 student revising Cambridge 0580 past papers for a Pearson 4MA1 entry is doing useful mathematics in the wrong format, and format is a meaningful share of the grade in a timed examination. Formula provision differs. Paper lengths differ. Pearson's modular option in some subjects means assessment can be spread rather than taken in one series, which changes revision planning entirely.

Tier is the other half. Cambridge Core and Extended are different syllabuses with different content and different grade ceilings, and the entry sits with the school. If your child is targeting a sixth form that asks for grade 6 in mathematics and they are entered for Core, the ceiling makes that impossible regardless of effort. That is a conversation to have with the school as early in Year 10 as possible, with evidence, because entries close months before the examination.

Once you have board, code and tier written down, interviewing a tutor becomes straightforward. 'Have you taught 0620 Extended?' is a question with a yes or no answer. 'Are you good at chemistry?' is not.

Core versus Extended, and what the ceiling means in practice

Cambridge Core and Extended are not easy and hard versions of the same paper. Extended covers additional syllabus content as well as harder questions on shared content, so a student moved late from Core to Extended has material to learn, not just difficulty to absorb. That is why the decision has a deadline and why it is worth getting right in Year 10 rather than arguing about it in Year 11.

The ceiling is the part parents most often miss. A Core entry caps the awarded grade — commonly at 5 on the 9-1 scale or C on the legacy letter scale — and no amount of performance lifts it above the cap. For a student heading to a sixth form or an A Level course that asks for grade 6 or 7 in the subject, Core closes the door before the examination is sat. For a student who needs a solid pass and is at risk of under-performing on Extended, Core is the sensible and protective choice.

Schools make the entry decision on evidence: internal assessment results, set placement and teacher judgement. A parent who wants it reconsidered needs evidence of the same kind, which is one legitimate use of tutoring in Year 10 — not to argue, but to produce a track record on Extended-level questions that the school can see. Where that evidence does not materialise, Core is usually the right answer and accepting it early beats a capped surprise in August.

The equivalent question on the Pearson route is different, because most Pearson International GCSE subjects are untiered. There the question is not tier but whether a modular entry pattern is being used, and if so which units are being sat when.

The topics where IGCSE marks go missing in Dubai schools

Mark loss repeats. Across cohorts the same topics produce the same errors, and because IGCSE papers are heavily structured the errors are easy to name once a marked script is in front of you. A tutor who starts by teaching the syllabus from the beginning is spending your money on content the student already has.

In Mathematics 0580 Extended the recurring losses are early rounding in multi-step problems, algebraic fractions, transformations of graphs described imprecisely, and bearings. In Physics 0625 it is electricity circuits, electromagnetic induction and graph work where axes are mislabelled or gradients computed from the wrong points. In Chemistry 0620 it is moles arithmetic, ionic equations without state symbols, and the qualitative analysis tests, which are pure recall and therefore the cheapest marks on the paper to recover.

Across every subject the biggest single category is command-term mismatch. 'State' wants a short answer with no working. 'Describe' wants what happens. 'Explain' wants why. 'Evaluate' or 'discuss' wants judgement with both sides. A student who writes a good explanation for a 'state' question loses time; a student who describes when asked to explain loses marks. Annotating the command term before writing is mechanical, teachable in one session, and transfers across the whole entry.

The second category is the alternative-to-practical paper in the sciences. It assesses experimental method on paper — choosing apparatus, identifying control variables, judging precision, spotting anomalous results — and school revision programmes often leave it until last because the theory papers carry more marks. For a student a grade away from their target, it is frequently the best-value four sessions available.

What the cheapest IGCSE tutoring in Dubai costs, and what it leaves out

Work up from the bottom of the market rather than down from the top, because the bottom is where most families start. Tutopiya publishes online tuition from AED 33-52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45-65. At those rates the tutor is usually a university student or a non-specialist graduate, and for Key Stage 3 consolidation or basic homework support that can be entirely adequate. What it does not buy is somebody who knows that 0620 wants state symbols or that Core caps at grade 5.

The next band up is where specification knowledge starts. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 an hour and IB from AED 200. Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table puts qualified subject tutors online in the AED 150-300 range, IB and IGCSE specialists at AED 200-450 or above, and in-home one-to-one visits at AED 180-350, with independent home tutors going to AED 500 once travel is included. TutorChase quotes AED 270 for specialist work and BartyED sits at AED 650 at the premium end.

Converted to a monthly commitment for one weekly hour, Bestimate's estimates are roughly AED 240-600 at the budget end, AED 600-1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for exam-year specialist support. Published packages in the Dubai market include around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions. All of these are provider-published figures read in October 2026.

For context worth having: KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for Dubai private schools for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within an AED 2.5 billion total. School fees are flat; tutoring is the variable line in a Dubai education budget. IB Gram does not publish a fixed hourly rate here because it depends on subject, tier and urgency — take the free diagnostic lesson and get a quote against the actual paper.

A home visit in JVT against an online session

Jumeirah Village Triangle is easy to reach by Al Khail Road and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, and hard to reach quickly between four and half past six. A tutor travelling in from Mirdif, Deira or Dubai Marina in term time is spending forty minutes to an hour each way, and that journey is paid for in the hourly rate, in a two-hour booking minimum, or in a tutor whose last session of the day is their fourth.

A home visit has real advantages and it is worth naming them rather than arguing them away. A Year 7 or 8 student who cannot yet self-manage a screen does better with an adult in the room. A student whose handwriting and working need physical correction as they write benefits from presence. Parents who want to overhear the session find it simpler. That is why the in-home market in Dubai is substantial and charges a premium over online.

What online changes for an IGCSE family specifically is specification match. The question stops being 'who will drive to JVT at five' and becomes 'who has taught 0580 Extended and marked it'. Sessions can be 45 minutes rather than two hours. A 20:00 slot is possible after a late fixture without anybody driving home at night. The recording means a November session can be rewatched in May at no extra cost, which matters for recall-heavy content like the Chemistry test tables.

IB Gram offers only the online format in the UAE. The table sets both out so the decision is made on the facts.

The IGCSE examination calendar, and the series your child will never sit

One warning first, because it is the single most common factual error on UAE tutoring pages. Cambridge's February/March series is offered to India only. A UAE candidate does not sit it, and a revision plan built around a March examination window is built around a date that does not exist for your child. UAE candidates sit the June series and the November series. Cambridge also runs Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October, which is a different thing entirely and is sometimes what a parent has half-remembered.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE examinations are available in May/June and in November each year. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. Results give a sense of the lag between sitting and knowing: Pearson's June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, while November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so the right habit is to open the live official timetable rather than trust a restated date.

Cambridge has one administrative rule that genuinely catches families out. Every centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong version. If you are printing a timetable at home, get the zone right from the exams officer first.

Counted backwards, the sequence is: results day, examination window, zone timetable confirmation, mock examinations, school coursework and internal deadlines, final entry deadline including tier. The entry deadline is the one that closes options, and it falls months before the papers are sat.

How many IGCSE subjects your child actually needs for the UAE

  • Five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3
  • Arabic and Islamic education sit outside that count of five
  • Plus one A-Level at no less than E, or two AS-Levels at the same grade
  • No IB points figure is published here because none has been sourced from the Ministry
  • Verify everything on moe.gov.ae or with the emirate's attestation authority

Ministry of Education equivalency is the recognition of a foreign secondary certificate for UAE university admission and some employment routes, and the British-track rule is specific enough to plan around. A student must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, and must additionally show one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade.

Two details inside that rule are worth repeating. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects, so a student taking them in addition to five others is fine but should not count them towards the five. And the figure is five. A competitor page ranking for UAE searches states that candidates must take six IGCSE subjects, which is wrong, and a parent who plans around it buys a year of tuition in a subject their child did not need.

The same Ministry framework covers other curricula. On the American track, English proficiency requires a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying. For the IB Diploma, this page publishes no points threshold, because the sourced article states none and no figure has been read on moe.gov.ae. Writing a number there would be exactly the mistake described in the paragraph above.

Finally, the boundaries. IB Gram does not perform, submit or guarantee equivalency; it is a Ministry process and you deal with the Ministry or the emirate's attestation authority directly. And tutoring is not required for equivalency, for university admission or for school progression. Where you see that implied, it is urgency being manufactured.

Booking, permits and the honest version of availability

  • Send board, code and tier per subject with the first message
  • Free diagnostic lesson, then a written diagnosis within a working day
  • One to three working days to match a mainstream specification
  • Coverage gaps and tutor location disclosed before booking
  • No UAE office, no regulator approval claimed, no fine amounts quoted

The sequence is short. Send the board, syllabus code and tier per subject, plus a marked mock or the latest report. A specialist runs a free diagnostic lesson and, within a working day, sends a written note naming the error patterns and estimating the number of sessions. You decide after reading it. Nothing is charged before that point.

Availability, honestly stated. Mathematics 0580, Physics 0625, Chemistry 0620, Biology 0610, English 0500 and 0510, Economics 0455 and Business Studies 0450 have deep cover for UAE evening slots, and a match normally takes one to three working days. Minority specifications are different: an uncommon language, a Pearson code a Dubai school has only just adopted, or a subject with a small cohort may have no free UAE-resident specialist, in which case the tutor comes from our India-based faculty working on Gulf Standard Time. We say so before you book.

On permits, because it is a reasonable thing for a parent to check. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated: the MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws; no fine schedule has been published, so no amount is quoted here. MoHRE's own service is 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing', with no listed fee and a two-working-day completion time.

One further caution worth stating plainly: a tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit, which is issued to training institutes. IB Gram holds no such permit, has no UAE office or centre, and makes no claim of approval, accreditation or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, Cambridge or Pearson. We explain what those bodies do; none of them endorses us.

Victory Heights Primary School and Bradenton Preparatory Academy sit inside the development, so the age profile skews younger and Key Stage 3 consolidation requests outnumber Year 11 repair work.

Arabian Ranches

Ranches Primary School and JESS Arabian Ranches serve this cluster, with JESS running the IB Diploma after Year 11. Families here often plan the IGCSE tier decision around a Diploma destination.

Dubai Hills Estate

GEMS Wellington Academy Al Khail and Kings' School Dubai draw from here, with substantial British-curriculum cohorts and consequently heavy demand for 0580 and 0625 support.

Town Square

Younger community with longer drives to the established secondary schools, which pushes most requests into the 18:00 and 19:00 slots and makes online delivery the practical option.

Remraam and Mudon

Close to South View School and the Dubailand school belt. English as a Second Language and mathematics are the two most requested subjects from these communities.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Get board, code and tier in writing

Ask the school's examinations officer for the board, syllabus code and tier of entry for each subject. It takes one email and it makes every later decision concrete. Without it, a tutor is choosing past papers on probability rather than on fact, and a term of the wrong board's papers is partly wasted work.

  2. 02

    Send a marked script

A marked mock, a returned topic test or a report with subject comments tells a specialist more in five minutes than a long conversation does. If the student has nothing marked and recent, say so and the diagnostic lesson includes a short timed paper from the correct tier instead.

  3. 03

    Free diagnostic lesson

A full session at no charge, spent on the student's own errors rather than on a topic. Most students show two or three repeating patterns — rounding too early, command-term mismatch, missing state symbols — and the plan is built on those rather than on a syllabus checklist.

  4. 04

    Written diagnosis and session count

Within a working day you get a short note naming the error patterns, the syllabus areas behind them and an honest estimate of sessions needed. If the time left is not enough to reach the target, the note says that too and suggests what is realistically reachable instead.

  5. 05

Weekly slot, reviewed on real marks

Same tutor, same time, 45 or 60 minutes, scheduled around the JVT school run and shifted to post-Iftar timing during Ramadan. Progress is judged on the school's next marked assessment, not on our exercises, and the focus or the tutor changes if that evidence does not move.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Specification-level matching

Tutors are matched to a syllabus code, not to a subject name. Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 split topics differently and provide different formulae, and practising the wrong board's papers costs marks that have nothing to do with ability.

The tier conversation, early

Core caps the attainable grade. If your child's sixth-form target needs grade 6 and the entry is Core, that is a Year 10 conversation with evidence, not a Year 11 complaint. We produce the evidence in the form of marked Extended-level work the school can look at.

Rates with the source attached

Every AED band on this page is a named provider's own published figure read in October 2026, not an invented average. We do not publish a fixed hourly rate for ourselves here because subject, tier and urgency move it, and a wrong number would be worse than none.

Alternative-to-practical taken seriously

The science alternative-to-practical papers assess experimental method on paper and are routinely the last thing revised. Four focused sessions on apparatus choice, control variables, precision and anomalous results is often the best-value block available in the final month.

Material referenced, never redistributed

Cambridge and Pearson specifications, past papers and mark schemes are copyright. We cite and link them at their official sources and teach from them in session; we do not hand over scanned folders of marking material, which is a copyright problem and, for unreleased papers, worse.

Availability stated before you pay

Mainstream codes match in one to three working days. Where a specification has no free UAE-resident specialist, we name that and say where the tutor is based instead, before a booking rather than after. No competitor in this market publishes a coverage limit.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Jumeirah Village Triangle: your questions answered

Do IGCSE home tutors actually visit homes in Jumeirah Village Triangle?+

Independent tutors and agencies in Dubai do, and the published bands put it at AED 180-350 an hour on Bestimate's 2026 rate table, rising towards AED 500 for independent home tutors once travel is included. IB Gram does not. Our UAE service is one-to-one tuition over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and home visits are something we run only in India. What that buys a Triangle family is a tutor matched to the syllabus code rather than to a driving radius, plus 45-minute sessions, since nobody has a journey to recover.

Who at a Dubai school can tell me the exact syllabus code my child is entered for?+

The examinations officer, and nobody else reliably. Email them and ask for the board, syllabus code and tier of entry for every subject. That person holds the entry data; a class teacher will usually know only their own subject. The answer matters because Cambridge Mathematics is 0580 while Pearson's is 4MA1, formula provision differs, and paper structures differ enough that practising the wrong board's papers costs marks on format alone. Dubai schools answer this request routinely, and once you have it in writing you can ask any tutor whether they have taught that exact code.

My child is entered for Core maths but needs grade 6 for sixth form. What now?+

Raise it with the school immediately, because a Cambridge Core entry is commonly capped at grade 5 or C and no performance lifts a result above the cap. Entries close months before the series, so the window is finite. The school decides on internal evidence, which means the useful response is evidence: a term of marked Extended-level work showing the student can handle the additional content, not just harder versions of Core questions. If that evidence does not appear, Core is the protective choice and accepting it early beats a capped result in August.

Which IGCSE subjects do students at JVT schools most often need help with?+

Mathematics 0580 Extended first, by a wide margin, usually for algebraic fluency and early rounding rather than for concepts. Then Physics 0625, where electricity and electromagnetism produce most of the loss, and Chemistry 0620, where moles arithmetic and ionic equations do. English as a Second Language 0510 appears steadily in a multilingual community, generally because reading-comprehension marks depend on lifting the right phrase rather than paraphrasing. Across all of them the single largest category is command-term mismatch, which is teachable in about one session and transfers to the whole entry.

Does my child sit the Cambridge February or March IGCSE series in Dubai?+

No. The February/March series is offered to India only, so no UAE candidate sits it, and any revision plan built around a March examination window is built on a date that does not apply. UAE candidates sit the June series and the November series. What does run in March, May and October are Cambridge Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests, which are a different assessment entirely and are sometimes what has been half-remembered. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November. Confirm your child's series with the examinations officer.

What is the Cambridge zone timetable and why does it matter to us?+

Cambridge allocates every examination centre to one of six administrative zones, and each zone gets its own version of the timetable. Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version for your zone and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. The practical risk is a parent downloading a timetable PDF from a search result, printing it, and planning a family trip around a date that belongs to another zone. Ask the exams officer which zone your centre is in before you print anything.

When will we know the results after a November IGCSE sitting?+

Later than most families expect. For Pearson Edexcel International GCSE, November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026, so the gap between the last paper and the result is roughly two months. By comparison, Pearson's June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so check the live official timetable rather than a restated date on any third-party page, including this one.

Is the alternative-to-practical paper worth paying a tutor for?+

Often it is the best-value block in the final month. The paper assesses experimental method on paper rather than in a laboratory: choosing apparatus, identifying control variables, judging the precision of a measuring instrument, spotting anomalous results and drawing or reading graphs accurately. School revision programmes tend to prioritise the theory papers because they carry more marks, which leaves this one under-practised across whole cohorts. Four focused sessions working through real alternative-to-practical questions and their mark schemes will usually move the score on it noticeably, with no new content to learn.

How much should a Dubai family budget per month for one IGCSE subject?+

On Bestimate's 2026 Dubai estimates for a single weekly hour: roughly AED 240-600 at the entry level, AED 600-1,200 for a qualified subject tutor, and AED 1,000-2,000 or above for specialist exam-year support. Published package pricing in this market includes about AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions. Those are other providers' figures, read in October 2026, not ours. For context, KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that Dubai private school fees would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, so tutoring is the variable line in the budget.

Can one tutor cover triple science for a Year 11 student?+

Sometimes, and it is worth testing rather than assuming. Many specialists cover two of Physics 0625, Chemistry 0620 and Biology 0610 to a high standard; very few cover all three at Extended level with equal command of the mark schemes. Where one tutor can genuinely cover two, scheduling and continuity improve and the student explains less context each week. Where they cannot, splitting is the better outcome even though it means two slots. Ask directly which codes a tutor has taught and which they have marked, and treat a vague answer as a no.

Should a JVT student add Additional Mathematics to the Year 9 option list?+

For a student heading to A Level Mathematics or IB Higher Level, usually yes. It introduces calculus and trigonometric identities a year early, which flattens the step into sixth form considerably. For a student who finds 0580 Extended demanding, it is an extra examination load for limited benefit and the slot is better spent securing the five subjects that equivalency and sixth-form offers actually depend on. The decision belongs in the Year 9 options conversation. Students who handle 0580 easily but struggle with 0606 are almost always short on algebraic fluency rather than on understanding.

Do Dubai schools teach Arabic alongside IGCSE, and does it count for equivalency?+

They must teach it, and it does not count towards the five. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, with KHDA's requirements implemented from the start of the 2025-26 academic year, and schools must run separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies. For Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track, however, Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required GCSE or IGCSE subjects.

How fast can you match an IGCSE tutor for a student at Sunmarke or Arcadia?+

One to three working days for a mainstream specification in a UAE evening slot — Mathematics 0580, the three separate sciences, English 0500 and 0510, Economics 0455 and Business Studies 0450 all have deep cover. Minority codes take longer and occasionally cannot be filled from UAE-resident tutors at all: an uncommon language, a Pearson specification a school has only just adopted, or a small-cohort subject. Where that happens the tutor comes from our India-based faculty teaching on Gulf Standard Time, and we tell you before the booking rather than after it.

Can we see the mark schemes and past papers you teach from?+

We teach from them in session and link them at source, but we do not hand over copies. Cambridge and Pearson specifications, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables are copyright, and a tutor distributing a folder of scanned marking material is creating a copyright problem — and for unreleased material, a malpractice exposure. What a tutor will do is work through a real question with you on screen, show exactly what the published scheme credits, and point you to the official site so you can download the same documents yourself through the proper route.

Can sessions shift during Ramadan or a school's mock week?+

Yes, and both come up every year with Triangle families. In Ramadan sessions move to post-Iftar timing, usually 20:30 to 22:00 on Gulf Standard Time, often shortened to 45 minutes. During a school's internal examination or mock week most families pause so the student owns their own evenings, then restart with a session spent reading the marked scripts, which is the most useful hour of the term. Because every session is recorded, a pause loses nothing — November's work can be rewatched in May without paying twice. Give us the dates at the start of term and the slot is held.

Get the code and the tier, then get the right tutor

The first email to send is not to a tutor. It is to your child's examinations officer, asking for the board, syllabus code and tier of entry for each subject. With those three facts written down, the rest becomes mechanical: check whether the tier ceiling clears the sixth-form requirement, find the marked paper that is losing marks, and ask any tutor the one question that matters — have you taught this code and marked it. For families in Jumeirah Village Triangle that tutor works one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time rather than driving in at five. Send the marked script and the codes, and book the free diagnostic lesson.
