IB Physics Tutor in Jumeirah Village Triangle

Most families looking for an IB physics tutor in Jumeirah Village Triangle are already short of time, so this page is written as a calendar rather than a syllabus tour. It sets out what the components are worth, what the next eight weeks have to achieve week by week, where the scientific investigation marks sit, and how uncertainties are actually assessed. Teaching is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and IB Gram makes no home visits anywhere in the UAE.

IB & IGCSE in Jumeirah Village Triangle

Eight weeks is enough for some things and not others

The call usually comes with a deadline attached. A mock has come back at a 4, there are eight or ten weeks until the next assessment that matters, and the question is whether a physics tutor can do anything about it. The honest answer depends entirely on which component is losing the marks, and that is why this page is organised as a calendar instead of a syllabus summary. Some physics problems are eight-week problems. Others are not, and a provider who will not say which is which is not giving you information.

Start with the weightings, because they decide where eight weeks should go. In IB Physics, Paper 1 carries 36% of the grade and splits into Paper 1A, which is multiple choice, and Paper 1B, which is data analysis. Paper 2 carries 44% and is extended response: calculation, explanation and application across the syllabus. The scientific investigation, internally assessed in school and externally moderated, carries the remaining 20% and is marked out of 24 across four criteria. Those three numbers tell you that extended response is where most of the grade lives, and that the investigation is the single largest controllable block.

Now the triage. Multiple-choice performance on Paper 1A responds quickly, often within three weeks, because the loss is usually recall and misread stems rather than deep misunderstanding. Data analysis on Paper 1B responds quickly too, because it is a defined set of techniques — gradients, error bars, uncertainty propagation, linearising a relationship — and a student can be taught all of them in four sessions. Extended response on Paper 2 is slower, six to eight weeks, because it requires both content security and a structural habit: name the physics, then apply it, then evaluate. A student two grades short on content across the whole syllabus is not an eight-week project at all, and saying so is more useful than taking the booking.

The investigation is the component where a late start costs the most and where a tutor's legitimate role is narrowest. A student can control the research question, the method and the timeline, and the four criteria reward design, analysis, conclusion and evaluation in equal measure at six marks each. What a tutor may do is interrogate the research question, check the method can generate data that supports the planned analysis, explain what each criterion credits, and give feedback on the student's own draft. What a tutor may not do is write it, rewrite it, or supply the analysis.

What follows is the week-by-week plan, the component detail behind it, the uncertainty treatment students most often get wrong, the Dubai rate bands with their sources, a comparison of formats for a Jumeirah Village Triangle household, and the regulator and honesty footnotes that belong on every page in this set. No IB examination or results date appears anywhere on this page, because ibo.org blocks automated verification and a date a family reorganises a term around has to be right.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Physics enquiries from this part of Dubai come from three stages, and the calendar for each looks different. The Diploma is the one with a fixed external session at the end of it.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

MYP Sciences

Assessed against four criteria covering knowledge and understanding, inquiry and design, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. There are no external examinations unless the school uses eAssessment. The programme builds experimental design well and quantitative problem-solving less thoroughly, which is where the step into Diploma Physics becomes visible.

Students arriving into DP1 Physics from MYP at the Dubai continuum schools usually design experiments competently and calculate slowly. The eight-week window before DP1 begins is the cheapest time to close that: rearranging equations, handling standard form and unit prefixes, and using significant figures deliberately rather than by habit.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme Physics

Taken at Higher or Standard Level. Paper 1 at 36% comprises multiple choice and data analysis; Paper 2 at 44% is extended response; the internally assessed scientific investigation is 20% and is marked out of 24 across research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. Higher Level carries additional syllabus content and greater depth in the same components rather than an entirely separate paper type.

Diploma Physics in this part of Dubai is taught at JESS Arabian Ranches, Nord Anglia International School Dubai, Fairgreen International School and North London Collegiate School Dubai, among others. None of them sits inside Jumeirah Village Triangle, so students here commute, and that is why physics sessions from this postcode cluster after 17:30.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE Physics before the Diploma

Cambridge 0625 or the Pearson equivalent, tiered on the Cambridge route into Core and Extended. The content overlaps substantially with early Diploma Physics, particularly in mechanics and electricity, but the mathematical demand is lower and uncertainty treatment is largely absent. Students entering DP1 from Extended IGCSE usually have the content and not the error analysis.

Most students at the British-curriculum schools around the Triangle — Sunmarke School, Arcadia Global School, GEMS Metropole School — meet physics first through IGCSE. Cambridge's February/March series is offered to India only, so UAE candidates sit June and November, and a resit result from November reaches students in January.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The physics topics and components most often requested from the Jumeirah Village Triangle area, listed by where marks are actually lost rather than by syllabus order. Each entry says what the examination does with the topic.

Paper 1A, multiple choice

HL and SL

Recall, quick reasoning and the ability to read a stem precisely. Most loss here is not conceptual: it is misread wording, forgotten definitions and sign errors. It is the component that responds fastest to work, often within three weeks of daily short question sets.

Paper 1B, data analysis

HL and SL

Gradients, intercepts, error bars, uncertainty propagation and linearising a relationship to test it. A closed set of techniques, which makes it unusually teachable: four focused sessions normally covers all of them, and students who have never been taught them lose marks they could hold.

Paper 2, extended response

HL and SL

Forty-four per cent of the grade and the slowest component to improve. Marks are lost describing what happens instead of naming the law and applying it. The structural fix — state the principle, apply it, then evaluate — takes six to eight weeks to become automatic.

Mechanics and motion

HL and SL

Kinematics, Newton's laws, momentum and energy. Sign conventions cause more loss than the physics does, particularly in momentum questions involving a reversal of direction. Graph interpretation of displacement, velocity and acceleration is assessed repeatedly.

Electricity and circuits

HL and SL

Current, potential difference, resistance in combination, internal resistance and power. Students reproduce rules without applying them to the circuit in front of them, and lose marks reasoning about what happens when a component is changed in a network.

Fields and gravitation

HL and SL

Gravitational and electric fields, potential and potential energy. The recurring error is confusing field strength with potential, and treating potential as a vector. Orbital questions require combining circular motion with the field law rather than recalling a single formula.

Waves and oscillations

HL and SL

Simple harmonic motion, superposition, interference, diffraction and standing waves. Phase relationships are where marks go, along with path-difference reasoning in interference questions where students substitute before deciding which condition applies.

Thermal physics

HL and SL

Specific heat capacity, latent heat, the gas laws and the kinetic model. Marks are lost on unit conversion between degrees Celsius and kelvin, and on heating curves where a student applies a specific heat capacity across a phase change.

Nuclear and quantum physics

HL and SL

Radioactive decay, binding energy, mass defect and the photoelectric effect. Binding energy per nucleon questions require careful unit handling between electronvolts and joules, which is a high-frequency source of avoidable loss.

The scientific investigation

HL and SL

Internally assessed, 20% of the grade, 24 marks across research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation at six marks each. Weak evaluations cost more than weak data: the criterion rewards discussion of methodological limitations and specific realistic improvements.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, all one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, each matched to a different position in the calendar. The right one depends on how many weeks remain and which component is losing marks.

Eight-week component block

The format most families arrive wanting. One or two sessions a week for eight weeks, aimed at a single named component with a defined target for each week. Session one reads the marked mock rather than teaching, and the written plan that follows says what each of the eight weeks has to achieve so progress can be checked rather than assumed.

  • A stated target for every week of the block
  • Full timed Paper 2 sections from week four onwards
  • Error log maintained and reviewed weekly
  • Two sessions a week available where the window is short

Data analysis intensive

Four sessions covering the whole of Paper 1B: gradients and intercepts, absolute and fractional uncertainty, propagation through products and powers, error bars, lines of worst fit, and linearising a relationship to test it. It is a closed technique set, which makes it the highest-yield short block available in IB Physics.

  • Every technique in the component covered in four sessions
  • Worked from real data sets, not invented numbers
  • Uncertainty rules drilled until they are automatic
  • Suits a student with secure content and a weak Paper 1B

Investigation supervision

Scheduled backwards from the school's internal deadline and structured around the four criteria. The tutor interrogates the research question, checks the method can produce data that supports the planned analysis, and gives criterion-referenced feedback on the student's own draft. The student writes everything submitted.

  • Research question tested before any data is collected
  • Method checked against the analysis it has to support
  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback from the published descriptors
  • Four to six sessions spread across the drafting period

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Jumeirah Village Triangle

What the next eight weeks have to achieve, week by week

A revision plan that says 'cover the syllabus' is not a plan. A plan says what each week produces and how you will know. The schedule below is the one we build for a DP2 student arriving with a marked mock, roughly eight weeks out, whose main loss is on Paper 2 extended response with secondary loss on Paper 1B. It is adjusted after the diagnostic session, but the shape holds for most students in this position.

The first two weeks are diagnostic and structural. Week one reads the mock and names the error patterns; week two installs the Paper 2 answer structure — name the physics, apply it, then evaluate — on questions the student already knows the content for, so the only new thing being learned is the structure. Weeks three and four add the data analysis technique set, because it is closed and fast and banking it early removes a worry.

Weeks five and six are content repair on the two or three topics the mock showed as weakest, worked through past questions rather than through notes. Weeks seven and eight are full timed papers, one a week, marked against the published scheme with the error log updated afterwards. The point of ending with timed papers rather than content is that by then the limiting factor is almost always time allocation and question selection, not knowledge.

Two honest caveats. If the diagnostic shows content weakness across most of the syllabus rather than in two or three topics, eight weeks does not fix it and the written diagnosis will say so, proposing a realistic target instead of the one you asked for. And if the scientific investigation is still unfinished, it takes priority over examination technique, because it is 20% of the grade with a hard internal deadline and the examination technique can still be worked on afterwards.

Where the grade actually lives: the component arithmetic

Physics students and their parents routinely misallocate revision because they think in topics rather than components. The grade is a weighted sum: Paper 1 at 36%, split between multiple choice and data analysis; Paper 2 at 44%; the scientific investigation at 20%. A student who revises content evenly across the syllabus is implicitly treating all three as equally improvable, which they are not.

Paper 2 is the largest single share and the slowest to shift, which means it should get the longest run rather than the most intensive one. The reason it is slow is that the loss is structural as well as factual: a student who writes a paragraph describing a phenomenon when the question asked them to explain it with reference to a named law has produced correct physics and scored at the bottom of the band. Installing the structure takes repetition over weeks, not a single explanation.

Paper 1 divides into two components with very different improvement curves. The multiple-choice section rewards recall and precise reading and responds quickly to daily short sets. The data-analysis section is a closed technique list and can be taught in about four sessions. Together they are over a third of the grade and they are the fastest third to move, which is why a compressed window should usually bank them before turning to extended response.

The investigation is 20% and is the only component where the student sets the timeline. It is marked out of 24 over four criteria at six marks each: research design, data analysis, conclusion, evaluation. A strong investigation and a weak Paper 2 produces a very different grade from the reverse, and in a short window the investigation is frequently the better place to spend time precisely because it is not an examination.

Uncertainties: the marks almost nobody is taught to collect

Uncertainty treatment appears in the data-analysis section of Paper 1, in the investigation's data analysis and evaluation criteria, and incidentally in Paper 2 wherever a result has to be quoted sensibly. It is a small, closed and entirely learnable body of technique, and it is the most reliably neglected part of IB Physics teaching in any school system, because it does not feel like physics and it is not in the exciting part of the syllabus.

The content is short. Absolute uncertainty is the raw spread; fractional uncertainty is that divided by the value; percentage uncertainty is the fractional one expressed as a percentage. When quantities are multiplied or divided, fractional or percentage uncertainties add. When a quantity is raised to a power, its percentage uncertainty is multiplied by that power. When quantities are added or subtracted, absolute uncertainties add. The final answer is quoted to a precision consistent with its uncertainty, and the uncertainty itself to one significant figure in most cases.

Beyond propagation there is graphical uncertainty: error bars drawn from the absolute uncertainty, a line of best fit and lines of maximum and minimum gradient, and the uncertainty in the gradient inferred from those. Students who can do propagation algebraically often cannot do the graphical version, because it requires drawing carefully and reading values honestly rather than substituting into a formula.

And then linearising, which is the skill that makes a data question tractable: rearranging a proposed relationship into the form of a straight line so that a graph can test it, then identifying what the gradient and intercept physically represent. Four sessions covers all of this. For a student with secure content and a weak Paper 1B, it is the highest-yield block available in the subject.

The scientific investigation, criterion by criterion

Twenty per cent of the grade, 24 marks, four criteria at six marks each: research design, data analysis, conclusion, evaluation. The symmetry matters. A student who collects excellent data and writes a thin evaluation has thrown away a quarter of the component, and evaluation is the criterion most often treated as a closing paragraph rather than as six marks of assessed work.

Research design credits a clear research question with defined independent, dependent and controlled variables, and a method described well enough to be repeated. The common failure is a research question that is not actually a question, or a method whose controlled variables are listed but not explained. Data analysis credits processing that is appropriate and complete, including uncertainty treatment and clear presentation — this is where the uncertainty work above pays off directly.

Conclusion credits an answer to the research question that is justified by the processed data and compared with accepted scientific context. Students lose marks here by restating the data rather than interpreting it, or by comparing with no literature value at all. Evaluation credits discussion of the method's specific limitations and realistic, targeted improvements. 'Human error' and 'more time' score nothing; 'the thermometer's resolution limited the temperature precision to half a degree, which propagates to a four per cent uncertainty in the specific heat capacity' scores.

On the honesty line, which matters more here than anywhere else in the subject. A tutor may interrogate the research question until it is answerable, check that the method will generate data capable of supporting the planned analysis, explain what each criterion credits using the published descriptors, teach uncertainty treatment as a skill, and read a draft the student wrote and name which criterion a passage fails. A tutor may not design the investigation, process the data, write any part of the report, or edit prose to a standard the student cannot produce. Every submitted word is the student's own.

What a physics specialist costs in Dubai, and what a short window changes

A compressed calendar changes the pricing question. Over two years, hourly rate dominates total cost and it is worth optimising. Over eight weeks, the total is bounded — sixteen sessions at most on a twice-weekly block — and what matters is whether the person teaching has marked the component you are trying to fix. Paying AED 100 less an hour for somebody who has never taught Paper 1B uncertainty propagation saves perhaps AED 1,600 across the block and spends the component.

Published Dubai figures, read in October 2026: Tutopiya from AED 33-52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45-65 at the entry level; Unitors IB tuition from AED 200 and IGCSE from AED 150; Bestimate's 2026 rate table at AED 150-300 for qualified online subject tutors, AED 180-350 for in-home one-to-one and AED 200-450 or above for IB and IGCSE specialists, with independent home tutors reaching AED 500 including travel; TutorChase at AED 270 for specialist work; BartyED at AED 650 at the premium end. Monthly, Bestimate estimates roughly AED 240-600, AED 600-1,200 and AED 1,000-2,000 or above for one weekly hour at the three tiers.

For an eight-week physics block the practical arithmetic is simple. One session a week at the specialist band is eight sessions; two a week is sixteen. Published packages in this market sit around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, which maps onto exactly this kind of short intensive programme. IB Gram does not publish a fixed hourly rate on this page because level, component and urgency move it, and a quote follows the free diagnostic lesson rather than preceding it.

One piece of context worth having: KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in Dubai private school fees for the 2026-27 academic year under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within an AED 2.5 billion total. School fees are flat; a tutoring block is the variable decision in front of you.

Two sessions a week from Jumeirah Village Triangle, practically

An eight-week block at two sessions a week needs sixteen slots in the diary, and that is where the format decision becomes concrete rather than philosophical. From the Triangle, a Diploma physics student is commuting out of the community to school, so the realistic earliest start is about 17:30. Two sessions a week at that time, every week for eight weeks, is achievable online and very difficult with a visiting tutor.

The reason is travel. A tutor driving in from elsewhere in Dubai is spending forty to sixty minutes each way in term-time traffic, which normally requires a two-hour minimum booking and caps the latest workable start at roughly 18:30. Two two-hour visits a week in the late afternoon is a large imposition on a student who has already done a full school day and a commute, and the physics on offer in hour two of such a session is not usually the physics that moves a grade.

Online sessions can be 45 or 60 minutes, which is the right length for a focused component, and can run to 21:00 on Gulf Standard Time, which means the second session of the week can sit after a sports fixture or a music lesson rather than displacing one. Every session is recorded, which in physics specifically matters: a student can rewatch the uncertainty propagation session three times during revision week at no additional cost.

A home visit still has genuine advantages for some students, and they are worth naming. A younger student who needs an adult present works better in person; apparatus handled physically helps some learners; a parent in earshot is easier to arrange. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE regardless, so the table below is there to let you compare the market honestly rather than to argue you out of something.

The calendar you can actually verify, and the one you cannot

  • UAE Diploma candidates sit the May session; no dates published here
  • Ask the physics teacher for four dates: method approval, draft, mock, submission
  • Cambridge runs June and November; February/March is India-only
  • Pearson International GCSE runs May/June and November
  • Cambridge zone timetables differ; confirm the zone before printing one

A calendar-driven page has a duty to be straight about which dates are known. For the Diploma, UAE candidates sit the May session. That is as specific as this page goes, because ibo.org returns an error to automated checking and no IB session or results date in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself. A family reorganises a term around an examination date, so publishing an unverified one would be worse than publishing none. Your school's Diploma coordinator has the real dates, and ibo.org is the authoritative source.

What can be verified are the deadlines your school sets, and for a physics student those are the ones that bite first. The scientific investigation has an internal submission deadline, usually preceded by a method approval point and a draft feedback point. The mock window is fixed by the school. So is the date by which any Higher Level content must have been taught. Ask the physics teacher for those four dates and the eight-week plan builds itself around them.

For students on the British route before the Diploma, the awarding bodies' positions are published and usable. Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. The February/March series is offered to India only, so it is not a UAE route. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November; the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so open the live official timetable rather than trusting a restatement.

One Cambridge administrative rule applies to every Dubai candidate: centres are allocated to one of six administrative zones, each with its own timetable version, Cambridge states it is essential to use the correct version for your zone, and it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. Get the zone from the examinations officer.

Starting inside a short window, and the footnotes that belong here

  • Level, marked mock and the school's four dates in the first message
  • Free diagnostic lesson, then a written eight-week plan with weekly targets
  • One to three working days to match an IB Physics specialist
  • Tutor location disclosed when no UAE-based specialist is free
  • No regulator or awarding-body approval claimed, no examiner status asserted

If the window is short, the sequence has to be fast. Send the level, the marked mock and the four school dates. A physics specialist runs a free diagnostic lesson, usually within a working day or two at this notice, and the written plan follows within a working day of that with a target against each week. Nothing is charged before you have read it, and if eight weeks cannot reach the grade you want, the plan says so and names what it can reach.

Availability for IB Physics is good at both levels for UAE evening slots, with a match normally inside one to three working days. The constraint when a family calls six weeks out is usually the slot rather than the specialist, particularly for twice-weekly blocks at 17:30. Where no UAE-resident specialist is free, the match comes from our India-based IB faculty teaching on Gulf Standard Time, and we say so before the booking rather than afterwards.

Two footnotes that belong on every page in this set. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated: the MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws; no fine schedule has been published, so no amount is quoted here.

And the claims we do not make. IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licensing or partnership from the IB, Cambridge, Pearson, KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education or MoHRE. We hold no KHDA Educational Services Permit, which is the authorisation a Dubai training institute with premises requires, and we have no UAE office or centre. We do not describe tutors as current IB examiners, because examiner status for an individual cannot be evidenced here, and we would not use it to imply access to marking or paper content if it could.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Jumeirah Village Triangle

Physics students joining from Jumeirah Village Triangle work alongside families across the Dubailand belt. The notes focus on commute and session timing, because for a calendar-driven subject the realistic start time decides how many sessions actually fit into eight weeks.

Jumeirah Village Triangle

No Diploma school inside the community, so physics students commute out and back. The realistic earliest start is around 17:30, which still allows two sessions a week in an eight-week block.

Motor City

GEMS Metropole School runs IGCSE, so Diploma physics students travel further. Starts land nearer 18:00, which is where the online format earns its place in a compressed revision window.

Dubai Sports City

Victory Heights Primary School and Bradenton Preparatory Academy sit inside the development and skew younger, so physics requests from here are mostly IGCSE rather than Diploma.

Arabian Ranches

JESS Arabian Ranches is the nearest large Diploma cohort and generates the most Paper 2 technique work in this cluster, usually in the term before the session.

Dubai Hills Estate

GEMS Wellington Academy Al Khail and Kings' School Dubai draw heavily from here. Students split between A Level Physics and IB Physics at sixteen, with different error-analysis demands.

The Sustainable City

Fairgreen International School runs the IB continuum, so physics students arrive from MYP rather than IGCSE and typically need quantitative fluency more than content.

DAMAC Hills

Every Diploma student here commutes. The 18:30 and 19:00 slots are the busiest, and recordings do more work because sessions sit late in a long day.

Town Square and Mudon

Longer school runs and a younger profile. Physics enquiries are mostly IGCSE 0625, concentrated on electricity and the alternative-to-practical paper.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the mock and the four dates

The marked mock shows which component is losing marks. The four dates — method approval, investigation draft, school mock, internal submission — define the window the plan has to fit inside. With both, an eight-week block can be laid out properly rather than assembled a week at a time.

  2. 02

    Free diagnostic lesson

A full session at no charge spent reading the student's own errors rather than teaching a topic. For physics the output is usually two or three patterns: describing instead of applying, uncertainty rules half-remembered, and time lost on the long questions at the end of Paper 2.

  3. 03

A written plan with a target per week

Within a working day, a plan naming what each week of the block has to achieve and how you will know it happened. If the honest assessment is that the window is too short for the target, the plan says that and proposes a reachable one instead.

  4. 04

One or two sessions a week, 45 or 60 minutes

Fixed slots from 17:30 to allow for the commute out of Jumeirah Village Triangle, with later slots to 21:00 where a fixture or a lesson already owns the early evening. Every session is recorded, which matters most for the technique sessions a student will want to rewatch.

  5. 05

    Checked against the week-one diagnosis

At week four and week eight the error log is compared with the original diagnosis. Patterns that are closing confirm the plan; patterns that repeat mean the work between sessions is not happening or the diagnosis was wrong, and both are better found at week four than afterwards.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

A calendar, not an open-ended commitment

The block has eight weeks, a target for each one, and a defined endpoint. You can see at week four whether it is working rather than discovering at the session that it was not, and the plan is in writing before any payment is taken.

Triage by component, not by topic

Paper 1A moves in about three weeks, Paper 1B in about four sessions, Paper 2 in six to eight weeks, and whole-syllabus content gaps not at all inside a term. Knowing which of those you have is the difference between a short block that works and one that disappoints.

Uncertainty treatment taught properly

Propagation, error bars, gradient uncertainty and linearising form a closed technique set that most students have never been taught systematically. It is four sessions of work and it pays into Paper 1B, the investigation's data analysis and the evaluation criterion simultaneously.

The investigation treated as 20%

Twenty-four marks across four criteria at six marks each, with evaluation carrying as much as data analysis. Where the investigation is unfinished, it takes priority over examination technique in a short window because it has a hard deadline and the technique work can follow.

Dates stated only where they are verified

Cambridge and Pearson dates come from the awarding bodies and are quoted with their sources. No IB session or results date appears, because none could be confirmed at source, and a family reorganises a term around an exam date.

Sixteen sessions in eight weeks is actually schedulable

Twice-weekly 45-minute sessions from 17:30, with slots to 21:00 when the early evening is taken, and a recording of each one. A travel-based model with a two-hour minimum cannot offer that shape, which is the practical reason the format matters in a short window.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Jumeirah Village Triangle: your questions answered

My child has eight weeks until the physics mock. Is that enough?+

It depends on the component, which is why the first session reads the marked script. Paper 1A multiple choice usually moves within three weeks because the loss is recall and misread stems. Paper 1B data analysis is a closed technique set and takes about four sessions. Paper 2 extended response takes six to eight weeks because the fix is structural — name the physics, apply it, evaluate — and structure needs repetition. Content weakness across most of the syllabus is not an eight-week problem, and the written plan will say that rather than take the booking.

How are the marks split across IB Physics components?+

Paper 1 carries 36% of the grade and divides into Paper 1A, which is multiple choice, and Paper 1B, which is data analysis. Paper 2 carries 44% and is extended response across the syllabus. The scientific investigation, assessed internally and moderated externally, carries 20% and is marked out of 24 across four criteria at six marks each. That arithmetic should drive revision: Paper 2 is the biggest share and the slowest to shift, while Paper 1 is over a third of the grade and the fastest third to move.

Why does my child describe the physics instead of explaining it?+

Because describing is what most school answers reward until the papers start asking for more. An IB Physics extended-response question wants the named principle, then its application to the specific situation, then an evaluation where asked. A student who writes a fluent account of what happens has produced correct physics and will score at the bottom of the band. The fix is a structure applied to every answer, practised on questions where the content is already secure so the only new thing is the shape. It takes six to eight weeks to become automatic.

What exactly is in the Paper 1B data analysis technique set?+

Gradients and intercepts read from a graph; absolute, fractional and percentage uncertainty; propagation through addition, multiplication and powers; error bars drawn from absolute uncertainties; lines of maximum and minimum gradient and the gradient uncertainty inferred from them; and linearising a proposed relationship so a straight-line graph can test it, with the gradient and intercept interpreted physically. That is the whole list, which is why four focused sessions normally covers it. For a student with secure content and a weak Paper 1B it is the highest-yield block in the subject.

How do the four investigation criteria divide the 24 marks?+

Evenly: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation at six marks each, and the whole investigation is 20% of the grade. The even split is the thing students miss. Excellent data with a thin evaluation discards a quarter of the component, and evaluation is routinely written as a closing paragraph rather than as six marks of assessed work. Evaluation credits specific methodological limitations and realistic targeted improvements, so 'human error' and 'more time' score nothing while a resolution limit propagated into a percentage uncertainty scores well.

Can a tutor help design the physics investigation?+

A tutor can interrogate the research question until it is answerable, check whether the proposed method will generate data capable of supporting the planned analysis, explain what each criterion credits from the published descriptors, teach uncertainty treatment as a transferable skill, and read a draft the student wrote and name which criterion a passage fails. A tutor cannot design the investigation, process the data, write any part of the report, or edit the prose to a standard the student could not produce. The test after each session is whether every submitted word is still the student's own.

Should the investigation come before exam technique in a short window?+

Usually yes, if it is unfinished. The investigation is 20% of the grade, has a hard internal deadline set by the school, and cannot be revisited once submitted. Examination technique can still be worked on in the weeks that follow. The exception is a student whose investigation is already submitted or essentially complete, in which case the whole window goes to components. Ask the physics teacher for the method approval date, the draft date and the submission date before planning anything, because those three dates constrain everything else.

Is twice a week better than once for a physics block?+

For a compressed eight-week window, generally yes, and for a specific reason: a single weekly session leaves six days for a misconception to set, and the structural work on Paper 2 needs more frequent correction than that. Two 45-minute sessions a week is a better shape than one ninety-minute session, because physics attention fades and the second half of a long session after a school day is rarely productive. Sixteen short sessions in eight weeks is routine online and difficult to arrange with a visiting tutor, who normally needs a two-hour minimum.

Does an IB physics tutor travel to Jumeirah Village Triangle?+

Independent tutors and agencies in Dubai do, at AED 180-350 an hour on Bestimate's 2026 rate table and up to about AED 500 for independent home tutors with travel included. IB Gram does not, anywhere in the UAE. For a short physics block the online format also fits the calendar better: 45-minute sessions, twice-weekly scheduling, starts up to 21:00 after a fixture, and a recording the student can rewatch during revision week. A visiting tutor's two-hour minimum and roughly 18:30 latest start make sixteen sessions in eight weeks hard to arrange from this postcode.

What will eight weeks of IB Physics tutoring cost in Dubai?+

At published market bands, eight weekly sessions with an IB specialist comes to roughly AED 1,600-3,600 or more, and sixteen sessions twice weekly to roughly AED 3,200-7,200 or more, using Bestimate's 2026 specialist band of AED 200-450 and above. A qualified non-specialist online tutor at AED 150-300 gives AED 1,200-2,400 for eight sessions. Published packages in this market include around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions. Those are other providers' figures read in October 2026; we quote after the free diagnostic lesson rather than before it.

How much harder is Higher Level Physics than Standard Level?+

Higher Level carries additional syllabus content and greater depth in the same components, rather than a wholly different paper type. The practical effect in a short window is that an HL student short of a grade may need content taught as well as technique repaired, which doubles the work in the available time. That is why the written plan after the diagnostic lesson is explicit about what eight weeks can and cannot do: for an HL student with gaps across several topics, the honest answer is often a revised target rather than the one the family arrived with.

Which Dubai schools near JVT teach IB Physics?+

None inside Jumeirah Village Triangle. Sunmarke School and Arcadia Global School are British-curriculum, so Diploma physics students from the Triangle commute. The nearest cohorts are at JESS Arabian Ranches, Nord Anglia International School Dubai, Fairgreen International School in The Sustainable City, North London Collegiate School Dubai, Greenfield International School and Emirates International School Meadows. Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, three on the IB curriculum, creating 16,846 places. We name schools as market context and hold no relationship with any of them.

Why will you not tell me the May exam dates?+

Because they could not be verified at source. The IB's own site returns an error to automated checking, so no IB session or results date in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself, and an examination date is something a family rearranges travel and a revision plan around. UAE candidates sit the May session; for the window, the results date and the candidate release time, ask your school's Diploma coordinator or read ibo.org directly. The dates that constrain an eight-week physics plan first are internal anyway: method approval, draft, mock and submission.

Can a block run through Ramadan or a mock week?+

Yes, with the timings adjusted. During Ramadan sessions move to post-Iftar slots, typically 20:30 to 22:00 on Gulf Standard Time, often at 45 minutes, which suits twice-weekly technique work well. Through a school mock week most families pause the teaching and keep one session to read the marked scripts, which in an eight-week block is usually the most valuable hour in it. Because every session is recorded, a pause costs nothing in content: the uncertainty session from week three can be rewatched in week eight at no charge.

Name the component, then build the eight weeks around it

Physics in a short window is a triage problem before it is a teaching problem. Paper 1A moves in about three weeks. Paper 1B is four sessions of closed technique. Paper 2 takes six to eight weeks because the fix is structural. The investigation is 20% of the grade with a deadline nobody can move, and it usually goes first if it is unfinished. Send the marked mock and the four dates your school has set, take the free diagnostic lesson, and get a written plan with a target against each of the eight weeks before you commit to anything.
