IGCSE Tutor near me in Jumeirah Village Triangle

Most families looking for an IGCSE tutor near me in Jumeirah Village Triangle are really making a decision rather than booking a lesson: how many subjects, triple or combined science, first-language or second-language English, and whether a November resit is the sensible route. This page answers those four, with the grade scales and the Dubai rate bands behind them. Teaching is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; IB Gram runs no home visits in the UAE.

  • The 9-1 and A*-G scales set side by side with their boundaries
  • Triple against combined science, with what each closes off
  • Resit and private-candidate routes explained with the real timings

IB & IGCSE in Jumeirah Village Triangle

Four decisions that matter more than which tutor is closest

The search term says tutor, but the problem is usually a decision. Before a single lesson is booked, a family looking for an IGCSE tutor near me in Jumeirah Village Triangle normally needs an answer to one of four questions, and getting those wrong costs more than any tutor can recover. How many subjects should the child enter. Triple science or combined. English as a First Language or as a Second Language. And, if a grade has already come back short, whether a November resit is the right response or a distraction.

Take subject count first. Dubai schools typically enter students for eight to ten IGCSEs. Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track counts five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count. Sixth-form and A Level courses add their own requirements, usually grade 6 or 7 in the subject to be continued. Beyond those two constraints, extra subjects buy breadth at the cost of attention, and a student carrying ten subjects at grade 5 is in a weaker position than one carrying seven at grade 7.

Then the science decision, which quietly closes doors. Separate sciences — Physics 0625, Chemistry 0620, Biology 0610 as three distinct IGCSEs — is the route that keeps every A Level and IB Higher Level science open without argument. Combined or coordinated science counts for fewer qualifications and some sixth forms treat it as insufficient preparation for an HL science. A Year 10 student intending to read medicine or engineering needs this decision made deliberately, not by timetable default.

English next. English as a First Language and English as a Second Language are different qualifications with different papers and different university recognition. Second-language entry is appropriate for many students in a multilingual city and is a sensible protective choice, but some destinations treat first-language English as the stronger signal. Ask the school which entry is planned and why, because the answer is sometimes about the set a child was placed in two years earlier rather than about current ability. A short diagnostic on first-language reading questions settles it faster than a conversation does, and it gives you something concrete to take back to the school if the planned entry looks wrong for the destination the family has in mind.

Finally the resit question. UAE candidates sit the June series and the November series, so a June grade can be improved in November with results reaching students in January. Whether that is wise depends on what the grade is needed for and when. This page sets out all four decisions with the figures behind them, then covers rates, formats, the examination calendar and the regulator position. Lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; there are no home visits anywhere in the UAE.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three stages produce almost all IGCSE enquiries from the Jumeirah Village Triangle area, and the right tutoring is different at each. The decisions above mostly belong to the first one.

Year 9 optionsAges 13-14 · Year 9

Choosing the IGCSE subject list

The spring of Year 9 fixes the subject list and, by implication, the sixth-form options available two years later. Separate sciences, a second language, an arts or technology subject and whether to add Additional Mathematics are all decided here. There are no examinations at this stage, so tutoring is about making sure ability rather than set placement drives the choice.

In Dubai this decision interacts with the mandatory subjects. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are required in all private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum, with KHDA's requirements implemented from the start of the 2025-26 academic year, so the discretionary slots on a Jumeirah Village Triangle timetable are fewer than the raw subject count suggests.

Years 10-11Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

The IGCSE course itself

Two years to an externally examined qualification, eight to ten subjects typically, examined by Cambridge or Pearson. Most subjects carry no coursework; the sciences use an alternative-to-practical paper in place of a practical examination on many entries. Grades come from a weighted total across papers, and the tier of entry on Cambridge subjects caps what can be awarded.

UK curricula account for 37% of Dubai private-school enrolment across 227 schools and 387,441 students, so IGCSE cohorts here are large and supply for mainstream subjects is deep. A school adopting a less common Pearson specification can still leave a family with very few locally resident tutors who have taught that exact code.

ResitAges 16+ · after a June result

November series and private candidates

A grade short of a sixth-form or equivalency requirement can be retaken in the next series. Cambridge runs June and November; Pearson runs May/June and November. A candidate no longer at the school may need to enter as a private candidate through an approved centre, which has its own deadlines and fees set by the centre rather than by the board.

The timing is the thing to check. Pearson's November 2025 International GCSE results reached students on 22 January 2026, so a November resit result arrives mid-academic-year. If a sixth-form place depends on it, confirm with the receiving school that a January result is acceptable before committing to the series.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The IGCSE subjects most requested from the Jumeirah Village Triangle area, with the Cambridge code and what actually decides the grade in each. Resit candidates most often come to us for the first three.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580)

Core and Extended

Extended rewards method shown step by step; a right answer with no working loses marks that were available. The recurring losses are algebraic fractions, graph transformations and multi-step problems where rounding is applied before the final line. Resit candidates usually need timing work more than content.

Physics (Cambridge 0625)

Core and Extended

Circuits, electromagnetic induction and graph work account for most lost marks. The alternative-to-practical paper assesses method on paper, including apparatus choice and precision, and is routinely the least practised paper in a school revision programme.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620)

Core and Extended

Moles arithmetic and ionic equations without state symbols cost the most. Qualitative analysis — the tests for cations, anions and gases — is recall rather than reasoning, which makes it the fastest recoverable block of marks in the last month of a course.

Biology (Cambridge 0610)

Core and Extended

The volume of content is the difficulty, not its depth. Answer length has to match the mark allocation, and command terms decide what is wanted: 'state' takes a phrase, 'explain' takes a reason. Transport in plants and genetics are the recurring weak topics.

Combined and Coordinated Science

Core and Extended

Covers all three sciences in one or two IGCSEs rather than three. Content is reduced across each discipline, which makes it a manageable load but can limit entry to an A Level or Higher Level science. Check the sixth-form requirement before the Year 9 option form is signed.

English First Language (Cambridge 0500)

Single tier

Reading responses must quote precisely and analyse effect rather than restate content. Directed writing is marked on register and audience as much as on accuracy. Timed practice moves the grade more reliably than additional content teaching does.

English as a Second Language (Cambridge 0510 and 0511)

Core and Extended

Comprehension marks depend on lifting the correct phrase rather than paraphrasing well. The summary task has a strict word limit and credits content points. Speaking is assessed separately on some entries and is usually prepared too late.

Additional Mathematics (Cambridge 0606)

Single tier

Taken alongside 0580 in stronger sets. Introduces calculus and trigonometric identities a year early, which flattens the step into A Level or Higher Level mathematics considerably. Students who struggle here despite handling 0580 are short on algebraic fluency.

Economics (Cambridge 0455)

Single tier

Diagram marks are allocated separately from the prose: axes labelled, curves shifted, new equilibrium marked. The four-part structured questions escalate to an eight-mark evaluation, and students routinely spend their time budget before reaching it.

Business Studies (Cambridge 0450)

Single tier

Application to the named firm in the stimulus separates a 5 from an 8. Generic theory scores low. Break-even and ratio arithmetic is a dependable source of marks for a student willing to drill it, and is often skipped in favour of essay content.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, all one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. The right one depends on whether you are making a decision, fixing a paper or preparing a resit outside a school timetable.

Options and planning sessions

A short block in Year 9 or early Year 10 aimed at the decision rather than the content: whether separate sciences are realistic, whether Additional Mathematics is worth a slot, whether the English entry matches the destination. The output is a written view a parent can take into the school conversation, backed by the student's performance on real questions at each level.

  • Diagnostic questions at both Core and Extended standard
  • A written note on which entries the evidence supports
  • Sixth-form and equivalency requirements checked against the list
  • Usually two to four sessions, not an ongoing commitment

Weekly subject tutoring

A fixed weekly hour in one subject with the same tutor, working against the school's scheme of work and the correct syllabus code. This is the format that changes a grade rather than rescuing a paper, because the tutor reads marked classwork each week and can trace a weakness back to the topic that produced it.

  • Same tutor through the year for continuity
  • Topic tests drawn from the correct board and tier
  • Half-termly written progress note
  • Pauses through school mock and examination weeks

Resit and private-candidate preparation

A focused programme for a student retaking in November, often without a school timetable behind them. Content is usually known; what is missing is structure, timed practice and someone holding the schedule. The block is built backwards from the entry deadline, which the centre sets and which falls earlier than candidates expect.

  • Schedule built backwards from the centre's entry deadline
  • Full timed papers under real conditions each fortnight
  • Error log maintained across the whole programme
  • Candidate responsible for their own entry through an approved centre

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Jumeirah Village Triangle

01

How many IGCSEs does a Dubai student actually need?

Fewer than most timetables offer. Two separate requirements govern the number, and both are smaller than the eight to ten subjects a Dubai school typically enters. Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track asks for five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, and Arabic and Islamic education are not included among those five. Sixth-form and A Level entry adds its own threshold, usually grade 6 or 7 in each subject to be continued.

That matters because a competitor page ranking for UAE searches states that candidates must take six IGCSE subjects. The published figure is five. A parent planning around six over-subscribes their child by a subject, and a subject's worth of attention spread across a crowded entry is not free.

The sensible planning order is backwards from the destination. List the sixth-form or Diploma courses the student is likely to want, find the grade each one requires, and make sure those subjects are on the list at a tier that can reach the grade. Then confirm the five-subject equivalency floor is comfortably cleared. Whatever slots remain are genuinely discretionary, and that is where breadth belongs.

What this does not mean is that fewer subjects is automatically better. A student capable of ten strong grades should take them. The failure mode is the student carrying ten subjects at grade 5 when seven at grade 7 would have opened more doors, and that student is usually carrying subjects nobody checked the purpose of.

Separate sciences or combined: the decision that closes doors

Separate sciences means three IGCSEs: Physics 0625, Chemistry 0620 and Biology 0610, each with its own full syllabus and papers. Combined or coordinated science covers all three disciplines in one or two IGCSEs with reduced content in each. Both are legitimate qualifications and schools in Dubai offer both, often with set placement deciding which a student is put forward for.

The difference is what happens at sixteen. A student who took separate sciences can walk into A Level Chemistry or IB Chemistry Higher Level without an argument. A student who took combined science sometimes can and sometimes cannot, because the receiving school judges whether the reduced content is sufficient preparation, and some will not accept it for a Higher Level science at all. For a child who might read medicine, dentistry, engineering or a physical science, that is a live risk rather than a theoretical one.

The trade is load. Three separate sciences is substantially more content than combined, and three mediocre science grades serve a student worse than two solid ones plus a stronger entry elsewhere. The decision therefore depends on genuine capability in Year 9, which is exactly what set placement is a rough proxy for and sometimes a bad one — a child placed on a lower set in Year 8 because of a weak term can find the science route decided by that term two years later.

The useful intervention is evidence. A few sessions of real Extended-standard questions across the three sciences will show whether the load is realistic, and the result is something a parent can take to the school rather than an opinion.

Reading the grade scale, and the resit route after a short result

Cambridge IGCSE results now come on a 9-1 numeric scale, with 9 the highest, alongside legacy A*-G reporting on some syllabuses and in some regions. Parents who sat GCSEs themselves tend to read the numbers against the old letters incorrectly, usually assuming 9 maps to A* exactly and 7 maps to B. It does not; the scales were set so that the numeric grades spread the top end more finely. What matters practically is the threshold the receiving school names, which will be stated in the scale it uses.

If a result comes in short, the UAE resit route is the November series. Cambridge runs June and November for IGCSE, O Level and International A Level, and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November. Critically, Cambridge's February/March series is offered to India only, so it is not a route for a UAE candidate however often a search result suggests it.

The timing decides whether a resit is useful. Pearson's November 2025 International GCSE results reached students on 22 January 2026, and the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. A result in January is mid-academic-year, so before entering, ask the receiving sixth form in writing whether a January grade will satisfy a conditional offer. For an equivalency file rather than a school place, a January result is usually fine.

A student retaking after leaving school may need to enter as a private candidate through an approved examination centre. Deadlines and fees for private entry are set by the centre, not by the board, and they fall well before the series. Confirm both in writing before planning a revision programme around them, and work the schedule backwards from the entry deadline rather than the examination date.

Group class, private visit or one-to-one online

Three delivery models compete for a Dubai family's tutoring budget and they are rarely compared honestly. A tuition centre group class is the cheapest per hour and works for a student who needs structure and company rather than diagnosis. A private home visit is the most expensive and buys presence in the room. One-to-one online sits between them on price and gives the widest choice of tutor.

On published figures: Tutopiya advertises online tuition from AED 33-52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45-65 at the entry level. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150. Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table places qualified online subject tutors at AED 150-300, in-home one-to-one at AED 180-350, and IB or IGCSE specialists at AED 200-450 or above, with independent home tutors reaching AED 500 once travel is included. TutorChase quotes AED 270 and BartyED AED 650 at the premium end. Every figure here is the provider's own, read in October 2026.

The variable most families underweight is attention per hour. A group class at a low hourly rate can deliver less individual attention in a term than a smaller number of one-to-one sessions, and for a student whose problem is a specific recurring error — rounding early in 0580, omitting state symbols in 0620 — group teaching cannot see the error at all. Conversely, a student whose problem is simply not working is often better served by a structured group than by an expensive private hour they coast through.

IB Gram delivers one-to-one online only in the UAE. No home visits, no centre, no group classes. The table compares the three models on the factors that actually differ.

What the IGCSE calendar looks like from a JVT kitchen table

The useful version of an examination calendar is the one that says what should already be done by each point. Counting forwards from today produces a revision plan; counting backwards from results day produces a plan that accounts for the deadlines that close options rather than the ones that merely add pressure.

The fixed points are these. Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level in a June series and a November series, plus Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November, with the November 2026 final timetable running from late October to 19 November 2026. Pearson's June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026; November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so always open the live official timetable rather than a restated date.

The rule that catches families out is Cambridge's zoning. Every centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, each with its own timetable version. Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version for your zone and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong one. If you are printing a timetable to put on the fridge, get the zone from the examinations officer first.

And the reminder that belongs on every UAE page: the February/March series is offered to India only. UAE candidates sit June and November. A plan built around a March window is a plan built around a date that does not exist for your child.

The regulator picture, and what nobody can claim

  • KHDA regulates Dubai; ADEK, SPEA, RAK's Department of Knowledge and the Ministry cover the rest
  • Read the subject commentary in the inspection report, not just the band
  • Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools
  • No provider can enter your child for an examination except a school or approved centre
  • IB Gram claims no regulator or awarding-body approval of any kind

Dubai's private schools are overseen by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, described on u.ae as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Elsewhere in the country the map is different: Abu Dhabi and Al Ain fall to ADEK, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools; Sharjah to the Sharjah Private Education Authority; Ras Al Khaimah to its Department of Knowledge; and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah to the federal Ministry of Education. Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, so curriculum approval sits with the emirate in those cases rather than inspection alone.

For a Jumeirah Village Triangle family the relevant regulator is KHDA, and the relevant document is your own school's published inspection report. The headline band on the six-point scale from Outstanding to Very Weak is the least informative line in it. The subject-level commentary is where a tutoring decision should be made, because it names the specific weakness in the cohort rather than in your child.

KHDA also sets the mandatory-subject rules that shape a Dubai timetable. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are required in all private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, implemented from the start of the 2025-26 academic year. Separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs are required in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and combined classes are strictly prohibited. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, with any mandatory-subject lesson advised to run at least 25 minutes, and using different or additional content without prior Ministry permission is strictly prohibited.

What no tutoring provider can claim: approval, accreditation, licensing or partnership from any of those bodies, or from Cambridge or Pearson, unless it actually holds it. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific authorisation for training institutes with premises in Dubai, with annual renewal requested at least 30 days before expiry. IB Gram holds none of these, has no UAE office or examination centre, and cannot enter a candidate for an examination. Entry goes through your school or an approved centre.

Booking, matching and the availability we will admit to

  • Board, code, tier and a marked script in the first message
  • Free diagnostic lesson before any payment or commitment
  • One to three working days for a mainstream specification
  • Tutor location named when no UAE-based specialist is free
  • Ramadan and mock-week timings agreed at the start of term

Start by sending the board, syllabus code and tier per subject if you have them, the specific worry, and a marked piece of work. A specialist runs a free diagnostic lesson and sends a written note within a working day naming the repeating errors and estimating sessions. You decide after reading it. Nothing is charged before that note exists, and if the honest conclusion is that the target is out of reach in the time available, the note says so.

On availability: mainstream specifications have deep cover for UAE evening slots and normally match within one to three working days. Mathematics 0580, Physics 0625, Chemistry 0620, Biology 0610, English 0500 and 0510, Economics 0455 and Business Studies 0450 are all in that group. Minority entries are not. An uncommon language, a Pearson code a Dubai school has only just adopted, or a subject with a very small cohort may have no free UAE-resident specialist at all, and then the tutor comes from our India-based faculty working on Gulf Standard Time. We say which before you book.

Scheduling around the Triangle is simple enough in practice. Children at Sunmarke School or Arcadia Global School inside the community can take a 16:30 slot. Families driving back from Motor City, Dubai Hills or the Dubailand schools usually want 17:30 or later. Ramadan sessions move to post-Iftar timing, typically 20:30 to 22:00 and often 45 minutes rather than an hour. Mock weeks are generally paused outright, then resumed with a session spent reading the marked scripts.

On permits, because it is a fair question to ask any tutor. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws; no fine schedule has been published, so no amount is quoted here. The route is MoHRE's 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing' service, with no listed fee and a two-working-day completion time.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Jumeirah Village Triangle

IGCSE students joining from Jumeirah Village Triangle study alongside families across the western Dubailand communities. These notes concentrate on which schools each community feeds and what that does to the subject mix we are asked for.

Jumeirah Village Triangle

Sunmarke School and Arcadia Global School are inside the community, both British curriculum, so Year 10 and 11 enquiries from here are the highest volume in this cluster and skew towards mathematics and separate sciences.

Jumeirah Village Circle

Same school options and the same Al Khail Road access. Apartment living means the practical constraint is often a quiet room at 19:00 rather than the timetable itself.

Motor City

GEMS Metropole School anchors the community through IGCSE. Triple against combined science is the single most common question from this postcode in the spring of Year 9.

Dubai Sports City

Victory Heights Primary School and Bradenton Preparatory Academy sit inside the development, so the age profile skews younger and Key Stage 3 groundwork outnumbers Year 11 repair.

Arabian Ranches

Ranches Primary School and JESS Arabian Ranches serve this cluster. With JESS running the IB Diploma after Year 11, families here often plan the IGCSE subject list around a Diploma destination rather than A Levels.

Dubai Hills Estate

GEMS Wellington Academy Al Khail and Kings' School Dubai draw heavily from here, producing steady demand for 0580 Extended and the three separate sciences.

Remraam and Mudon

Close to South View School and the Dubailand belt. English as a Second Language and mathematics are the two subjects most often requested from these communities.

Town Square

Longer school runs and a younger population. Requests concentrate in the 18:00 and 19:00 slots, which is where online delivery saves a round trip rather than a fee.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Decide what the qualification is for

Name the sixth-form courses or Diploma subjects the student is likely to want and the grades those require. Everything else follows from that list: how many subjects, which tier, separate or combined science. A subject list assembled without this step is assembled by timetable, and the cost shows up two years later.

  2. 02

Get board, code and tier in writing

One email to the school's examinations officer returns the board, syllabus code and tier of entry for every subject. With that in hand, a tutor can be asked a question with a yes or no answer, and past-paper practice stops being a guess about format.

  3. 03

    Free diagnostic lesson

A full session at no charge spent on the student's own work rather than on a topic. Where the question is a decision rather than a grade, that session uses real questions at both Core and Extended standard so the evidence is concrete rather than impressionistic.

  4. 04

    Written diagnosis and plan

Within a working day, a short note naming the error patterns or the entry-level evidence, the syllabus areas involved, and an honest estimate of sessions. For a decision it says which entry the evidence supports, which is something a parent can take into the school conversation.

  5. 05

Weekly slot, judged on school marks

Same tutor, same time, 45 or 60 minutes, booked around the JVT school run, with post-Iftar timing in Ramadan and pauses through mock weeks. Progress is reviewed against the school's next marked assessment, and the focus or the tutor changes if that evidence does not move.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The decision before the lesson

Subject count, science route and English entry decide more about a child's options at sixteen than any single tutor does. We will spend two sessions helping you get those right rather than selling a year of tuition around a list nobody checked the purpose of.

Matched to a syllabus code

Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 split topics differently and provide different formulae. Tutors are matched to the specification your child is entered for, so practice papers match the format as well as the content.

The resit route stated accurately

UAE candidates sit June and November; the February/March series is India-only. A November result reaches students in January, so we tell you to confirm with the receiving school before entering rather than after. Entry itself goes through your school or an approved centre, never through us.

Rates shown as the market's own numbers

Every AED figure on this page is a named provider's published rate read in October 2026, with the three delivery models compared on attention per hour rather than on price alone. We quote for your case after the free diagnostic lesson rather than publishing an average that fits nobody.

Examination material referenced, not redistributed

Cambridge and Pearson specifications, past papers and mark schemes are copyright. We work through them on screen and link them at source so you can download them legitimately. A tutor handing over scanned marking folders is creating a problem, not adding value.

Coverage limits published up front

Where no UAE-resident specialist is free for a minority entry, we name it and say where the tutor is based instead. No UAE office, no examination centre and no regulator approval claimed. The delivery model is in the first paragraph, not the terms.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Jumeirah Village Triangle: your questions answered

Will an IGCSE tutor come to our house in Jumeirah Village Triangle?+

Independent tutors and agencies in Dubai do offer it, at AED 180-350 an hour on Bestimate's 2026 rate table and up to AED 500 for independent home tutors once travel is included. IB Gram does not, anywhere in the UAE — home visits are an India-only service for us. UAE students are taught one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time with a shared whiteboard and a session recording. The practical gain is that the tutor is chosen for having taught your child's syllabus code rather than for living within a short drive of the Triangle.

How many IGCSE subjects should a Dubai student actually enter?+

Work backwards from two requirements rather than filling the timetable. Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track counts five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count. Sixth-form entry adds its own threshold, usually grade 6 or 7 in each subject to be continued. Beyond those, extra subjects buy breadth at the cost of attention. One competitor page states six IGCSEs are required; the published figure is five, and planning around six costs a subject's worth of focus.

Should my child take separate sciences or combined science?+

If there is any chance of an A Level or IB Higher Level science, separate sciences is the route that keeps it open without argument. Physics 0625, Chemistry 0620 and Biology 0610 as three IGCSEs carry the full syllabus in each. Combined or coordinated science reduces content across all three, and some receiving schools treat it as insufficient preparation for a Higher Level science. The trade is load: three mediocre science grades serve a student worse than two strong ones. Test the load with real Extended-standard questions before the Year 9 option form is signed.

Is English as a Second Language a weaker qualification than First Language?+

They are different qualifications rather than strong and weak versions of one. English as a Second Language, Cambridge 0510 and 0511, assesses comprehension, summary and controlled writing, and for many students in a multilingual city it is the appropriate and protective entry. English First Language, 0500, demands analysis of literary effect and reading responses that quote precisely. Some destinations treat first-language English as the stronger signal. Ask the school which entry is planned and on what basis, because the answer is sometimes a set placement made two years earlier rather than a judgement about current ability.

Can my child retake an IGCSE in November after a June result?+

Yes. Cambridge runs IGCSE in a June series and a November series, and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November, so November is the UAE resit route. The February/March series is offered to India only and is not available to a UAE candidate. The thing to check first is timing: Pearson's November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026, so a resit grade arrives mid-academic-year. If a sixth-form place depends on it, get written confirmation from the receiving school that a January result satisfies the offer.

What does entering as a private candidate in Dubai involve?+

A candidate no longer attending the school usually has to enter through an approved examination centre, and the centre rather than the awarding body sets the deadlines and the fees. Those deadlines fall well before the examination window, which is why a revision programme should be built backwards from the entry date and not from the paper date. IB Gram is not an examination centre and cannot enter anybody; we teach, and the family arranges entry. Confirm the centre's fee and deadline in writing before planning anything around the series.

How do the 9-1 and A*-G IGCSE grade scales line up?+

Not as neatly as parents expect. The 9-1 numeric scale runs with 9 highest and was designed to spread the top end more finely than A*-G did, so assuming 9 equals A* and 7 equals B will mislead you. Some Cambridge syllabuses and regions still report letters. What matters in practice is the threshold the receiving school names and the scale it names it in: a sixth form asking for grade 6 is asking in numbers, and a school asking for a B is asking in letters. Get the requirement in the scale your child's certificate will use.

Is a cheap group class at a Dubai centre a false economy?+

Not always, and it depends on what is wrong. A group class delivers structure, routine and company at the lowest hourly cost in this market, and for a student whose real problem is simply not sitting down to work, that can be exactly right. What it cannot do is see an individual error pattern — early rounding in Mathematics 0580, missing state symbols in Chemistry 0620 — because the teaching is pitched at the group. Where the problem is a specific recurring mistake, a smaller number of one-to-one sessions usually moves the grade further for the same money.

Which Cambridge timetable zone is a Dubai school in?+

Your examinations officer knows, and it is worth asking before you print anything. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, each with its own version of the timetable, and states that it is essential to use the correct version for your zone and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. The realistic risk is a parent downloading a timetable PDF from a search result and planning a family trip around a date that belongs to a different zone entirely.

Is Additional Mathematics worth a slot for a JVT student?+

For a student heading to A Level Mathematics or IB Higher Level, usually yes — Cambridge 0606 introduces calculus and trigonometric identities a year early and flattens the step into sixth form noticeably. For a student who finds 0580 Extended demanding, it is an extra examination for limited gain and the slot is better spent securing the subjects that offers and equivalency actually depend on. A student who copes with 0580 but struggles with 0606 is almost always short on algebraic fluency rather than on understanding, and that is fixable.

How many sessions does a Year 11 student in the Triangle usually need?+

For one subject with a diagnosed error pattern, six to ten weekly sessions is the normal range. Moving a whole subject from a 4 to a 7 is a two-term project rather than an eight-week one, and anyone promising otherwise is guessing. A resit programme over the summer and autumn for a November series typically runs longer, twelve to twenty sessions, because the student has no school timetable holding the structure. The written diagnosis after the free first lesson gives a specific figure, and says plainly when the time left is not enough.

Do Dubai's mandatory subjects reduce the slots available for IGCSEs?+

In practice yes, which is why the discretionary part of a timetable is smaller than the subject count suggests. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, with KHDA's requirements implemented from the start of the 2025-26 academic year. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit and KHDA advises that any mandatory-subject lesson runs at least 25 minutes. Those subjects also sit outside the five that Ministry equivalency counts on the British track, so they add load without adding to that total.

Can IB Gram enter my child for a Cambridge or Pearson examination?+

No. We are a tutoring service, not an examination centre, and we hold no approval, accreditation or partnership from Cambridge, Pearson, KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education or MoHRE. Entries are made by your child's school or by an approved private-candidate centre, which also sets its own deadlines and fees. Treat any provider claiming to be an approved centre with care and ask to see the centre number. A KHDA Educational Services Permit, which is what a Dubai training institute with premises needs, is a separate thing again and we do not hold one.

How fast can you start for a Year 11 student at a Motor City or JVT school?+

One to three working days for a mainstream specification in a UAE evening slot: Mathematics 0580, the three separate sciences, English 0500 and 0510, Economics 0455 and Business Studies 0450 all have deep cover. Minority entries take longer and occasionally cannot be filled from UAE-resident tutors at all — an uncommon language, a Pearson code newly adopted by one school, a very small cohort subject. Where that is the case the tutor comes from our India-based faculty teaching on Gulf Standard Time, and you are told before the booking rather than after it.

What happens to our slot during Ramadan and mock weeks?+

Both are arranged at the start of term so nothing is lost. During Ramadan sessions shift to post-Iftar timing, usually 20:30 to 22:00 on Gulf Standard Time and often shortened to 45 minutes. Through a school's internal examination or mock week, most Triangle families pause entirely so the student has their own evenings, then restart with a session spent reading the marked scripts, which is usually the most productive hour of the term. Every session is recorded, so a pause costs nothing: autumn work can be rewatched before the summer series at no extra charge.

Fix the decisions first, then book the hours

For most families in Jumeirah Village Triangle the money is better spent getting four decisions right than buying an extra term of lessons. How many subjects, measured against the five that Ministry equivalency counts and the grades a sixth form wants. Separate sciences or combined, measured against whether a Higher Level science is in the plan. Which English entry, and why. And if a grade has already come back short, whether a November result arriving in January is useful to the school that has to accept it. Send the subject list and a marked script, take the free diagnostic lesson, and make those calls on evidence.
